(Previous: Economy) (Introduction and Table of Contents) We have seen that who gets how much of what is a political decision: that the economy and economics is downstream from politics. Power is the ability to make people do what you want, or not do what you don’t want. Ideology determines what the good life is and power determines who lives it. All politica […]

Alan Simpson and the Republicans are Domestic Terrorists

And if Obama and the Democrats go along with this, they’re finished as a party:

The Republican co-chair of the White House’s fiscal commission predicted this morning that his controversial recommendations for reducing long-term deficits will have a real opportunity to become enacted next year, when the nation brushes up against its debt ceiling, and newly elected Republicans threaten to send the country into default.

“I can’t wait for the blood bath in April,” said Alan Simpson at a Christian Science Monitorbreakfast roundtable with reporters this morning. “It won’t matter whether two of us have signed this or 14 or 18. When debt limit time comes, they’re going to look around and say, ‘What in the hell do we do now? We’ve got guys who will not approve the debt limit extension unless we give ’em a piece of meat, real meat, off of this package.’ And boy the bloodbath will be extraordinary.”

[…]

Yesterday, Republican leaders, including soon-to-be Speaker John Boehner and NRCC chairman Pete Sessions made it clear that the the GOP will attempt to tie increasing the debt limit to spending cuts.

“We’re going to have to deal with it as adults,” Boehner said at a leadership press conference. “Whether we like it or not, the federal government has obligations and we have obligations on our part.”

Your obligations are to US first before anyone else.  You borrowed from our retirements to pay for your wars and your decades of tax cuts for the rich and your banker friends who can’t stop gambling.  Now, pay us back.

Democrats, don’t run for cover behind Alan Simpson and the Republicans who are salivating over gutting Social Security.  And don’t think you can force hardship on millions of Americans in order to pin the blame on Republicans just in time for an election.  That’s immoral.  You have enough votes to be held personally responsible if they get their way.

Accountability before Austerity

  1. I think in the upside down world that has come to pass, Democrats will be the ones pushing to cut SS, while Republicans will set themselves up as protecting it.

The Catfood commission belongs to Obama, the current Dem party owns it, and simply because it belongs to them, Republicans will oppose it.

    • That’s what I think too. Rushbo is already railing against it and calling Alan Simpson “Babe.” (???)
The GOP congress is going to focus on trying to repeal HCR (or pretending to anyway); that’ s what got them to DC.

    • This definitely is Obama’s Cat Food Commission. However, the Goppers are planning their own draconian wealth transfers to the rich from everyone else.

  2. Brava!

They work for us, the voters. SS and MC are our money, our investments. Not entitlements. Accountability.

Get austere on the wars and on Wall Street, not on citizens.

  3. I came up with a 4 point economic program that helps main street both instantly, and then long term as well, and does not require any bailout.

    • Bernie Saunders just isolated the same group of people responsible for the economic malaise that I have identifed up above in my four point economic plan, the billionaires.

  4. And who put this shit head Simpson on the committee?
    Good goddess.

    • Exactly.

    • There is a pcture over at BAR of BHO signing the executive order to create the commission – and Simpson is leaning over him like a vulture! He’s positively salivating over the opportunity to create widespread misery.

That “blood bath” quote above is stunningly viscious. This ghoul just has to be Caligula re-incarnated.

  5. The Malefactors Of Great Wealth must be congratulating themselves on what a great investment Obummer was for them.

  6. Except adopting theonomy, the f*ing Rethugs haven’t change for 100 years and now the f*ing Dems are the same.

“On Saturday, June 25, 1938, to avoid pocket vetoes 9 days after Congress had adjourned, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed 121 bills. Among these bills was a landmark law in the Nation’s social and economic development — Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA). Against a history of judicial opposition, the depression-born FLSA had survived, not unscathed, more than a year of Congressional altercation. In its final form, the act applied to industries whose combined employment represented only about one-fifth of the labor force. In these industries, it banned oppressive child labor and set the minimum hourly wage at 25 cents, and the maximum workweek at 44 hours.”

“While President Franklin Roosevelt was in Bedford, Mass., campaigning for reelection, a young girl tried to pass him an envelope. But a policeman threw her back into the crowd. Roosevelt told an aide, “Get the note from the girl.” Her note read,

I wish you could do something to help us girls….We have been working in a sewing factory,… and up to a few months ago we were getting our minimum pay of $11 a week… Today the 200 of us girls have been cut down to $4 and $5 and $6 a week.

To a reporter’s question, the President replied, “Something has to be done about the elimination of child labor and long hours and starvation wages.”

(What would have Obama done?…Stuck up his nose and had the girl arrested by HSA agents.)

  7. Obama owns this lock, stock, and barrel. Nobody wanted a deficit commission. Nobody with half a brain wanted THIS commission. Obama didn’t have to do this. He did it all on his own.

Social Security is not part of the budget. It has nothing to do with the deficit (except that they looted the money without our say so and don’t want to pay it back).

This is truly criminal. He’s killing Social Security via those disgusting old men. Liars extraordinaire. All of them.

I wish we could take away all Congressional pensions, retirements, and health care. (And no jobs lobbying ever. No board of directors. No work ever that is directly or indirectly tied to their years in D.C.) Put that money directly into a Social Security lock box. Start there. Then see how the budget looks in a year. If they want that stuff back, they have to cut the wars and start taxing estates over $10 million at 90%.

And how about some jobs, fellas? We can’t pay taxes if we don’t have income. Uh, duh.

I am sick. This is a done deal. What a wretched human being we have as president.

    • Yes.

And no manipulative narrative from TPM will fool the people into believing it’s only Simpson and the Repugs.

Obama OWNS this baby, and supports what TPM claims is Simpson’s fault.

      Journolists have received new instructions.

    • Spend less times being sick over stupid people doing repetitively stupid things, and support the 4 point economic program.

  8. Has Alan Simpson no shame?? Is there no shred of decency left.? Has he adopted Mr. Potter from “It’s a Wonderful Life” as his role model?

    Sadly, I know the answers.

And yes, President Obama put him on the commission, I think, because their beliefs are similar.

    djmm

  9. Alan Simpson and Cheney the ghoul are long time friends and really sick warped old men (they were sick warped young men also). Alan Simpson is considered witty in DC. I have read for years how various DC types think he is funny. Why anyone who claims to be a Democrat puts up with his shit is beyond me. I would like to know who told Obama to appoint this freak to any kind of commission. Probably some Dem asshole who thinks he is funny.

  10. Hi RD & Co. I have been off politics for a number of days now. Reading you again drags it back. What a drag RD. No, what a nightmare. Is it all just fools running things at this point? Wishes all at Confluence at happy Thanksgiving. While remembering happier political times for this nation.

I’m going out this year. Not in the spirit at all.
And I am sick of people like Palin. And that voters are so dumb. Ugh. Disgusting RD.
