  2. Who knew that sitting around in a bar would be more fun with knitting?

  3. what you up to tonight kaitebird

  4. Where’s bostonboomer?

    • your guess is as good as mine

    • BB has decided to throw her lot in with Dakinikat. You can find her at skydancing. We have left the door open for her. But we’re not quite sure why she left in the first place. Clearly, Dak and BB had some kind of understanding to which the rest of us were not privy.
We will miss her much more than other frontpagers who have left us, that’s for sure.

      • Why the digs?
Do all the valuable contributions of former frontpagers go unappreciated because they’ve taken a break or left of whatever reasons?

Seriously, the snarky remarks are beneath you.

        .12 cents (adjusted for inflation)

        • That was a simple statement of fact.

        • I meant to say that Bostonboomer is a very talented writer. Much more talented than madamab or garychapelhill ever were. The reasons front pagers leave have a common theme. It has to do with perceived control issues on their part. (I could mention others but do you really want to go there?) Many scream about how oppressed they are. Frankly, the rest of us have no idea what they’re talking about. Frontpagers here have a lot of freedom to do what they want. In conference calls, we ask them repeatedly if there is anything they want to get off their chests. If they say no, then what are we to conclude but that everything is hunky-dory?
Nevertheless, the signs were there that Kat wasn’t happy here and it’s probably for the best that she went back to her own blog. Let’s just say that my tinfoil antenna had been twitching for about a year. But Bostonboomer’s departure was very disappointing. Like I said, she and Kat had developed a relationship and plans that we weren’t privy to. We can’t force people to stay. If they want to play in someone else’s sandbox, we wish them all the best.

        • Oh, it’s only danceswithpumas. You’ve had a problem with myiq forever. Get over it. He’s staying.
You and several of your companions, like zaladonis, need to seriously examine your unhealthy obsession with getting myiq off a blog that doesn’t belong to you.
If you don’t like him here, go away. We will survive.
And you can pass that on to the other people who can’t post here under their regular blognames but still feel compelled to lurk.

          • RD
While it’s true that i had a serious problem with myiq for quite a while there was one post that he wrote that completely shifted my perception of him to the positive. So, altho you had no way of knowing, you are incorrect about my feelings about him.
My question re: him being here was and innocent one.

As far as lurking. I do so infrequently. Mostly I have checked in to read pieces by dakinikat and wonkthevote, and if myiq2xu has a post up the sounds intriguing I’ll stay and read it.

“oh, it’s only dances.”. Nice. At this point, I’ve come to expect nothing less of you.

            PS I HATE Christmas.

Thanks for your second comment re former bloggers.
It made a very different and positive impression.

And, I believe I’ve always posted here as dwp after a registration screw-up.

      • I’m surprised BB would leave without even a goodbye. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the FP here were in talks about leaving some time before Daki wrote her last post.

I respect Daki and any other FP’s decision to leave, but the way in which she chose to leave left a bad taste in my mouth. That last post of hers was really an insult to rd, myiq, and a lot of the regulars here. I think by the time she published her post, she knew she was going to leave, so she advertised her personal blog at the end of the post. It just seemed really wrong to me to leave on that bad note. If she really wanted to stay, I think some of those issues could have been resolved in a private conversation between the FPs.

Has mablue decided to go to Sky Dancing as well?

        • I would agree that her last post was disrespectful to us and all of the hard work that we have put into this blog in the past almost three years.
The post was designed to inflict as much damage as possible. We don’t negotiate with hostage takers. She left of her own accord but we were not sorry to see her leave.

          • I didn’t see that. Granted I wasn’t privy to stuff, but it didn’t read like bashing or dissing RD or FP-ers or trying to cause damage. I’m just wishing we could discuss more about what brings us together than what divides us. Obtuse? Maybe.

          • Eh. Whatever. Three FPs left, but I don’t think they took too many of TC’s readership. Most of the comments there are from Dak herself and BB. Sites like Sky Dancing and the Widdershins try to imitate the Confluence but end up falling short.

NWLuna, that last post came out of nowhere. No one knew that she was that unhappy here. Out of respect for RD and Myiq, who defended her against accusations that her first post here was r@cist, she should have told them her feelings rather than accuse TC and its readers of being right wingers and using her last post as an advertisement for her personal site.

I feel like it was a hijack from Dak and mablue. I haven’t seen mablue at Sky Dancing, but I had a feeling from his comments in Dak’s last post that he was in on the plan to leave as well. What they did was completely underhanded and ungracious.

        • Yes. Mablue is a Fp’er for Dak.

  5. Who is Nick Lowe?

  6. A friend just reminded me of Warren Zevon — this is one of my favorites!

    • OMG I was just thinking “warren zevon” when I saw your title asking who do you want to listen to now. he was absolutely the best.

      • I really loved him. I saw him in concert about 30 years ago.

        • miley cyrus and taylor swift concerts with the kids aside, 30 years ago was probably about the time I saw my last concerts.

          • I’ve been to a couple since then (one in 84 -Bruce Springsteen- and another in 89 – Neil Young) But I saw a lot of great concerts in the late 70s.

My concert buddy has been posting links to videos and I’m stealing his play list.

          • Last concert I was at was Joan Armatrading this past summer. Before that was Elton John & Billy Joel Face2Face in the spring. And the one before that….was Elton John, solo, at Radio City as a benefit for Hillary.

          • It’s in this video:

  7. Once upon a time, someone tried to talk me into going to Iowa.

    But I stayed in NJ.
    And so did he.
    But I sometimes wonder…

  8. Another mellow Eagles tune:

  9. Here’s a good find. I didn’t know that Jackson Browne & Bruce Springsteen did this:

  12. This one goes out to all the bankers out there:

  13. Oh, and this is to the Democrats:

    Don’t bother, we released ourselves.

  14. A little change of pace. To clear the palate, if you will. Edith Piaf in 1959 on the Ed Sullivan Show. God, she was wonderful.

  15. Only here can I enjoy both the Bay City Rollers AND Piaf.

  16. Obot women bloggers are having an 80s dance party to raise money for feminism and media. I’m thinking of going just to get high from the cognitive dissonance. Not really.

  17. bit more Jackson Browne

  18. Obama’s security dog named ‘Khan’: Muslims irked

Muslims in Mumbai are up in arms against a United States military sniffer dog allegedly with name tag of ‘Khan’ that has landed in the city as part of President Barack Obama security arrangements.

On Tuesday, the German Shepherd arrived in the Mumbai airport from a Hercules C130 transport plane. The German Shepherd allegedly had a tag around its neck which read ‘MWD Khan.’ MWD stands for Military Working Dog. Khan is alleged to be the name of the dog.

    […]

Prominent Muslim religious heads have expressed anger and dismay on the information of a US dog being named ‘Khan.’ Maulana Syed Athar Ali said that it is a known fact that Muslims detest pigs and dogs.

“To name a dog a Muslim name by US security agencies is to deliberately incite the Muslim community. We would be meeting soon and devise a strategy to protest and seek apology from the US,” said Maulana Athar Ali.

I guess they’re not Star Trek fans
