Dear lord, the man has the self-awareness of lox. https://t.co/0osnsWiD0p — Gary Legum (@GaryLegum) September 29, 2022 This quote is funny because Alito and five of his colleagues joined a majority opinion last June which just straight up lied about the facts of the case, and then stuck to the lie when they were confronted … Continue reading Fuck this little […]

    • The Attacks On Nord Stream I & II
Let’s point out the obvious. Russia had no reason to attack its own pipelines. If it doesn’t want gas to go thru them it just turns off the tap. Sabotage to the pipelines weakens Russia’s position, since it will be months before they can offer to turn fuel back on, which they would have wanted to offer during the winter in order to pressure Germany in specif […]

A sign of the apocalypse?

In a move of quiet desperation, it appears that some have declared war on a most prized symbol of hope.  Things really are bad out there.

(from the ad:)

Pâté is passé. Unicorn – the new white meat.

Excellent source of sparkles!

Unicorns, as we all know, frolic all over the world, pooping rainbows and marshmallows wherever they go.
As the unicorn ages, its meat becomes fatty and marbled and the living bone in the horn loses density in a process much like osteoporosis. The horn’s outer layer of keratin begins to develop a flavor very similar to candied almonds. Blending the crushed unicorn horn into the meat adds delightful, crispy flavor notes in each bite.

What is this world coming to?

In case you’re interested, it’s only $9.99 a can and there is a delicious recipe included. (via http://www.thinkgeek.com)

This is an open thread.

  1. Well, if they don’t have ponies, let them eat unicorn, I say!
    Today’s tabloids

  2. Say what???

Deepak Chopra takes responsibility for the Baja earthquake:

“Had a powerful meditation just now — caused an earthquake in Southern California,” Chopra wrote to his nearly 179,000 Twitter followers shortly after the quake.

And then, to clarify: “Was meditating on Shiva mantra & earth began to shake,” he tweeted. “Sorry about that.”

    • Once upon a time I used to pay attention to what he said. He went batty like most in this country during the 2008 primaries. I remember a puece about the evil of small town America (aimed at Palin but shitting on 70% of America.

      • Just another one of Oprah’s New Age la-de-da’s, bilking little people out of big bucks.

Hustlers, from the left and the right.

      • edge, me too. I saw him per the suggestion of a friend. He was one of the first who got me on the whole natural health care/new age stuff. But, I feel they all are going a bit too loony over Obama. They really believe that he is ushering in the New Age versus there is a general spiritual awakening over all. They are giving too much credence to him CAUSING all this change. Strange stuff indeed.

    • All righty then!

    • Can the government send him the bill for the Earthquake he caused?

    • Can we say “megalomaniac”?

    • I’m almost embarrassed to admit this but I read Chopra’s first book back in the day. Can’t remember the title but I remember thinking: okay, a tad strange. But now when I see him on these TV spots with the huge glasses and gushing all this New Age nonsense, I think: total charlatan. Guess we can add total crazy charlatan if he’s bought into his own spin.

He caused the earthquake? Better take that up with Hugo Chavez who has already claimed that the US has a Doomsday earthquake machine.

Maybe they can have a bout of mud wrestling to decide a winner.

The world is truly going nuts! And now unicorn meat. Recycled Spam, anyone? That one at least made me laugh.

  3. From Tulsa World:

Former Cherokee Chief Wilma Mankiller dies

Wilma Mankiller, the once dirt-poor Oklahoma farm girl who grew up to become an activist for American Indian causes and women’s rights, an author and the first woman to hold the Cherokee Nation’s highest office, died Tuesday. She was 64.

I heard her speak once. She was the most grounded person I ever heard.

  4. From the Washington Times and article by Victor Morton. The archdioese of Chicago gives Rev Michael Pfleger a lifetime achievement award.
He was such a classy guy when he insulted Hillary Clinton.

    • Welcome back , Helen. Good to see you again. 🙂

    • he insulted all of us when he insulted Hillary. He’s a real piece of work that guy.

      • YEP. But it’s Chicago…..and this award is his payback for helping eliminate the Clintons and boost Obama.

That way, his ministry gets more grants from the city and the state.

    • It’s scary, it what it is. There’ll be no place under the sun not owned by corporations. Not the internet, not your privacy, your health, your genome, your water or your air.

  5. No surprise:

A representative of eHealth.Insurance.com, based in California and selling health inurance in all 50 states, says they’re completely swamped by phone calls from Americans asking how they sign up for the new FREE OBAMACARE (her term, not mine).

She says the callers have no idea that it won’t be free, won’t be implemented immediately, or that it will still involve co-pays and deductibles.

Much disilluionment in the easily bamboozled.

    Well, duh.

How come Rachel Maddow didn’t ‘splain that on her TV show?

  6. An article at The Hill by Alexander Bolton
Specter promised Chairman of the Judiciary Committee to switch parties. Promised same seniority as if he was elected as a democrat in 1980.

    • Another back-door deal, Chicago style.

      It’s disgusting .

    • Wow….the article actually says Specter is claiming this Judiciary Committee promise. HE is the source.

  7. Hello to all at Conf & Co. I just read RD’s piece below and comments are closed so, once again GREAT piece RD. Oh, btw. The city of LA is out of money and?

Rd & Co. You should hear the ads the Republican Meg Whitman is running out here. RD, this is SCARY. Because, we have been DEMS — but things are so bad out here she is going to get a huge following of just the people that you wrote about below. I’m not sure what the Tea Party is actually about? I just know that my state is in big trouble with things like the above in LA.

All your points were so true. People are hungry and they are not going to give a damn about the environment, saving trees, coastlines, oil drilling or even nuclear now. They do want their jobs.
But? No jobs! Eventually this is going to lead to mass pandemonium. It’s like this thing you can feel down here in the air?
In the number of homeless on the streets, in the rage of the way people are driving.

I heard her ads on the radio?
OMG. You cannot believe it. You can’t.
She is our gen. Who are these people from our gen who lived out our times? It’s this huge mixture of people with conflicting ideas — radically conflicting ideas..

I may be a Dem in exile like most of us, but, Republican I’m not.
I want to vote for a woman, but, after what the DEM women have done—- I don’t think so. I rue the day I ever gave Pelosi my vote.
Any of them. I cannot see myself voting for her, Whitman. She is like Palin? Their ideologies ar so far out there to me. But, they won’t be to the gen under me. The gen under me gets swayed by logos, and advertising. They voted last time without thinking.
Boy am I ever worried about my state.

    Yikes. Those ads.

    hugs Conf & Co.
RD you nailed it once again — and SOD?
make that 2 state of disbeliefs, no?
    me too.

  8. check this out MIQ!

My guess is that all of us have voted in every election, no?
    I did.

  9. I know it’s been mentioned here, but I had some thoughts on the idioys

    • Volker’s out there now saying a national VAT (value added tax) will probably be necessary to reduce the deficits and avoid inflation.

And Lawrence Odonnell was on Morning Joe yesterday explaining that on page 331 of the Obamacare bill , in the fine print, the “fines” for not having healthcare are unenforceable, except for deducting from a refund .

Meaning, of course, that the CBO assumptions about numbers were completely skewed, and it won’t be “paid for” as The One has said.

Now, and only now, do members of the Obama administration begin to discuss, openly, a VAT to pay for it all.

Like I was too stupid to see that coming.

      • That O’Donnell video is still on MSNBC/Morning Joe site. It features Rep. Delahunt (now retired) admitting that O’Donnell’s right, and smirking when asked about how it changes the CBO numbers.
