I thought there was something fishy about that whole “unprecedented number of death threats” bullshit. It turns out that (once again) I was right.
You may have missed it yesterday because of the wall-to-wall coverage of Sarah Palin, but on Thursday the House of Representatives questioned Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan under oath regarding the White House party crashers. From the Washington Post:
Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) wanted to know whether Obama faced a greater threat to his security than past presidents.
Sullivan said that published reports claiming that Obama faced a 400 percent increase in death threats were incorrect. “I’m not sure where that number comes from,” he said. The number of threats against Obama, he said, “are the same level as it has been for the last two presidents.”
Over at Talking Points Memo the Obots simply refuse to believe the truth. Here’s a sample:

If Obama was indeed receiving many more death threats than any other President, what Secret Service director in his right mind would admit that? It’s like saying, “We’re swamped here! We might miss one!”

Of course Secret Service won’t reveal extent of threats to O. It would just encourage those are waiting in the wings to do something dangerous. “Hey, I can be the one millionth person to threaten him!” Sad to realize how racist our country still is.

Interesting statistic. 400% increase?
Lies, damn lies and statistics.
I had pancakes for breakfast this morning. This was a 400% increase in my average daily breakfast as I usually east French Toast.
You know where the “400 percent increase” claim comes from originally? Ronald Kessler:

Kessler was a fanatical Clinton-hater who became Washington correspondent for Newsmax. He has had to retract a previous story about Obama and Jeremiah Wright, and then he tried to scrub the info about his error from Wikipedia. Oddly enough, TPM broke the story about the Kessler and Wikipedia. Nevertheless, Kessler suddenly became a very credible source in the eyes of TPM readers when he said something that worked to their advantage.
They made a big deal over Obama allegedly needing Secret Service protection earlier than any other candidate too. But they never did explain why.

He got it because Durbin and Reid asked for it on his behalf. Because he’s black. They only offered anecdotal proof:
They were worried about all those people coming for the free food and musical entertainment that didn’t even know who he was.

The reason they’re so committed to this meme is because it excuses Obama’s lack of accomplishment. What can we expect, he can’t do anything (good at least, mysteriously he seems able to gin up enough bravery/energy to do a lot that’s bad) because the entire country’s out to get him, he’s understandably paralyzed with fear hiding in the White House bunker. If he tries to do anything liberal, It’ll just increase the danger!

Well, you know he did closely identify himself with dead heroes- MLK, RFK, Lincoln, JFK, Malcolm X, Gandhi- the sub text being that he, too, was a hero simply for running for POTUS.
Somehow I’m reminded of the people who “fainted spontaneously” at Obama’s public appearances last year.
They were overcome with the wholly-fabricated spirit.
That whole fainting stuff would have been more believable if they hadn’t used the same script each time:

I don’t know why they thought that would work, to me it just increases the perception that Obama’s supporters are flaky or unstable and the whole thing smacks of rock concert meets cult. (OTOH, apparently they were right and I was wrong since it did work, but….)

I never liked GWB — but I never wished anything bad would happen to him. I wanted him healthy so that he could go to jail for war crimes etc. That is my wish for 0bowma as well.
It’s strange that the 0bots would invent such a dumb ass story — does telling this mythological story of the increased threat to 0bowma make these nut job feel more macho? — Reflected Glory– the idea that HE is in danger — puts the 0bots in “danger” — and they are so masterful to adore the ONE — even though their adoration puts the at “risk”. The risks is in them minds of 0bots.
If anything it is the voters who are at risk FROM 0bowma’s stupidity — the Nation is at greater risk because of the amateur hour fools in the white house.

This is a way of creating sympathy for O too. Poor bambi–we must all take care of him. As Tweety said, “it’s up to all of us to MAKE him successful.” Presumably, including journalists–which they have done.
