CDS never dies

Sometimes you read stuff that makes you want to go townhall on the author.  From Political Punch:

ABC News’ Kirit Radia reports: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lost her cool Monday after a Congolese student, speaking through a translator, asked her what “Mr. Clinton” thought about a Chinese trade deal with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“You want me to tell you what my husband thinks?” Clinton replied, clearly irked by the thought of being her husband Bill’s spokeswoman.

“My husband is not secretary of state, I am,” she replied. “If you want my opinion I will tell you my opinion. I am not going to be channeling my husband.”

The only problem? Apparently the translator made a mistake and the student had wanted to know what President Obama thought of the deal. A State Department official tells ABC News the student went up to Clinton after the event and told her he was misquoted. No immediate word yet how Clinton responded.

Regardless of the error, the notion of Secretary Clinton’s deference to her husband clearly touched a nerve with America’s top diplomat. Just a week ago the former President stole his wife’s thunder when he appeared in North Korea to rescue two American journalists detained there. His trip came just as Secretary Clinton embarked on a swing through Africa she hoped would shine light on the plight of the continent.

This appears to be the new CDS meme – “Hillary is a mad b**ch.” They used to say she was “cold and calculating” but now she’s out of control. Exactly how do they think she should have responded to the “What does your husband thnk?” question coming from the translator?

As for the Big Dawg stealing Hillary’s thunder that is complete and utter horseshit. Bill flew to North Korea on a humanitarian mission approved by Hillary and the White House. If Hillary didn’t want him to go he would not have gotten on the plane.

He flew over there, waved to the cameras, sat for some pictures, welcomed Laura Ling and Euna Lee when they got on the plane, flew home, smiled and waved to the cameras when they arrived and never said a word.  The only people saying anything bad about the trip are the Clinton haters.  As far as they’re concerned the Big Dawg could have grabbed Little Kim by the scruff of the neck and made him agree to get rid of their nukes and hold democratic elections and it still wouldn’t be good enough.

Until yesterday Hillary’s trip to Africa has been mostly ignored by the major media – but not because of Bill. Do you see any mention in the report from Political Punch about sexual violence? Here’s what Hillary is doing in Africa:

Speaking at a public forum in Nairobi, Kenya, Secretary Clinton previewed her upcoming stop in the eastern DRC city of Goma by saying she will use the occasion to denounce violence against women in the conflict area.

“I’ll be in Goma. And I will be there primarily to speak out against the unspeakable violence against women and girls in eastern Congo. It is the worst example of man’s inhumanity to women,” she said.

Hillary is trying to do something about the rape and murder of women in Africa – and the media focuses on her reaction to a mistranslated question about trade with China.  As Violet Socks said:

I know if I’d just spent a day or two listening to mind-bogglingly horrific accounts of gang rape, I would be ready to beat the shit out of the next guy who said boo. I’d be all, fuck with me now, flipper. Bring it the fuck on.

One last thing – as Obamacare is spiraling and about to go down the drain guess what the Failbots are talking about?

  1. Screw them and the horse they rode in on.
Tell me one congressman or president other than her husband that could touch her knowledge , work ethic, loyalty to the country. and ability to understand others. Since the media sold itself to a lightweight what are they going to say? If they tell the truth that the country would be better off if she were president, they would have to admit their part in the fraud.

  2. This is so sad! How will any woman ever be acknowledged for her accomplishments in politics, when this is allowed to go on and on?

When Hillary Clinton triumphantly traveled in Asia, all I heard was that she supposedly said something unfortunate in regard to some “Xstan”.

When she after having worked relentlessly behind the scenes for months (the Swedish ambassador who was instrumental in the negotiations in North Korea says nothing but refers to US Department of State), managed to get approval from the White House to let her husband go, all I heard was how, yet again, Obama shows his magnificent superiority!

Did this same media – as it should have done – ever ridicule Obama for saying “I won” or “I’m the president”? Nah, I thought so.

This will never change as long as the media doesn’t change, and I’m not holding my breath for that to happen. I only wish that TC and likeminded blogs found a way to reach a broader audience.

    • Let me add that I love how Hillary shows her anger in that clip.

      Good for her!

      • I saw it on the news and I yelled “GOOD FOR HER” at my partner who is a right winger and hates Hillary… you know, a good guy who has been brainwashed by the CDS media. He was shocked that I would think her being annoyed was a good thing.

    • The media will never change because they supported Obama in the first place.

  3. If I thought someone was inferring that my husband’s opinion was more relevant than my own where my job was concerned I’d say the same damn thing. And I love my husband.

  4. […] and for more about the story see The Confluence […]

  5. Martha Raditz just did a report on Good Morning America about how Hillary is angry because she is being outshone by Bill. I think we should all email her and ask her what her husband thinks. And I think we should do it to every woman in the media until they realize how pathetic it is that their brains have been co-opted by the old boys club.

  6. […] myiq2xu (Not a common name, so hard to guess gender other than that it’s on a blog with riverdaughter as the username): This appears to be the new CDS meme – “Hillary is a mad b**ch.” They used to say she was “cold and calculating” but now she’s out of control. 7. Hillary made an ass out of herself.

  8. myiq2xu, you are right about that abc Kirit Radia–not even one mention in there on the sexual violence. Nothing to redeem himself for obviously taking glee in writing that one up.

The comments on that ABC thread are so misogynistic it makes me sick. Just terrible.

If Hillary acted like nothing was wrong with that question, I’d be shocked and very disappointed.

I watched the video three times, and I am very impressed with how assertive she is. I love it.

  9. The big question is: Why isn’t the media focusing on the savage rapes and brutality of the women in eastern Congo?

We need to ask the media why they are not telling that story.

    • Actually the Congolese news media hardly even mentions Hillary Clinton. One of the very few that does, writes:

“Hillary Clinton is due to tackle the issue of mass rape in DR Congo when she meets President Joseph Kabila later.”

And it seems that the Congolese media certainly doesn’t shy away from mentioning this ongoing crime. One site linked to this horrifying video of young Congolese men explaining why they rape:

  10. This is fun and scary at the same time from @simofish http://aclu.org/pizza/images/screen.swf

    • Woops meant to post that link on the morning thread. Anyway on CDS, most of the world is sexist to some degree. People will embrace Hillary in her journeys, but that doesn’t mean gender condescension in society doesn’t exist in almost every country she travels to. Lost in translation or not, people should be called out on that from time to time. The US media could help the global media with that lesson, if the US media didn’t have their head up their ass most of the time these days.

  11. It seems that there is more to this story and to Hillary’s anger than just the mistranslation.

Leading up to her visit there has apparently been a debate about how Bill Clinton, when in office, let the Congolese down, and more or less blaming him for the war in Congo.

(Sorry, can only find links in French, but it has to do with signing the Africa New Opportunities Act in 1995.)

  12. Hillary’s outburst was broadcast on national news last night, but Obama’s Hanford “I don’t know” wasn’t. Hanford is the world’s largest environmental cleanup project, and the president didn’t know?!

  13. Ms. Clinton is supposed to be a diplomat. A diplomat isn’t supposed to lose her temper in public question-and-answer sessions simply because her insecurities are tweaked.

How should she have answered the question? Easy> How about “I don’t know” or “I’d rather not speak for Mr. Clinton.”

    Try to keep things straight.

    • What does your wife think?

    • When your boy bowed to a Saudi king although Americans have fought for over 200 years not to bow down was that a good thing for America?
A diplomat who works as hard as SOS Clinton also deserves respect for that work no matter what gender they are.
Does your spouse answer all the questions people ask you?
If not why not since you seem to think it is alright to do so?

  14. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/aug/11/hillary-clinton-congo

only in America does the press overlook good work for the trivial.
The rest of the world can give Hillary Clinton the credit she deserves for the work she does. But not here, why is that?

  15. You know, there is a workshop I offer that talks about the “silver bucket” and how when our bucket is full it doesn’t take much to “dump” it on whoever “tipped” it. Maybe the student tipped it when it was full of “what does your husband think”

  16. More on the subject, as it broke on Monday/Tues…AP, which we can’t quote any longer had the full version first, BBC shying away. AFP had a bit more description, then the video started going around….FOX, Beck got on the subject, even Comcast.net has it playing….

This is a bad scene all around, as discussed…

The Complicated Diplomatic Life of Hillary Clinton (UPDATE 1X: Clinton on the Defensive in Congo over Bill’s “Presence”; UPDATE 2X: Bill Off the Leash?; UPDATE 3X: Video of Clinton Congo Outburst, Glenn Beck Comments)

  17. It’s more complicated than here being merely “annoyed”…the ramifications of the media response and the political hay is what is bad. Sorry, Hillary didn’t help herself AT ALL!! Nor the issues she wanted to bring to the fore.

Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually the Obamacrats use this sort of thing to force her out…which will be another debacle.

  18. Thank you Hillary! I would have been so disappointed if she had given the same answer while smiling sweetly. This sh!t won’t stop ’til women, especially those in power quit pretending it’s okay. I would bet those critical of her for this, never liked her anyway. You go Hillary! Show the world that we women are deserving in our own right and not just appendages of a man!

  19. He asked her what were her husband’s thoughts channeled through her-it was no translator’s error!

What does Mr Clinton think through the mouth of Mrs Clinton

The question was sexist to the extreme. There was no need whatsoever for her to smile sweetly.

  20. Isn’t it more important to notice how the rest of the world reacts to Hillary Clinton? After all she is the “Foreign Minister”. The Congolese media for one doesn’t mention this “rant”? They are more concerned with her engagement in the atrocities commited against Congolese women!

Actually FP has a piece about “The real news from Clinton’s stop in Congo”:

And just for the variety, here’s aljazeera’s take “US urges justice for DR Congo women”. The “rant” is only just mentioned in the last paragraphs:
