Rise and Shine: your continental breakfast is served.

Dark clouds foreshadow the week as your gentle toe-poke into the Monday marinade is not being lead by the master, MaBlue. I shall endeavor to offer some synapse triggering tidbits, while galumphing about like a drunken clown in shoes much too large to fill. I hope the image did not cause you a fright.

  1. The Shrill One:

So it seems that we aren’t going to have a second Great Depression after all. What saved us? The answer, basically, is Big Government.

    • That might be a little bit premature. There are still more bubbles to burst. And where are the jobs going to come from? I guess if he defines the economy as just Wall Street being supported by taxpayers, maybe everything is just hunky-dory. But what happens when the taxpayers don’t have jobs anymore?

    • So will PK and the Dems give Paulson and Bush credit for that first bailout from the abyss? Ummmmm. Didn’t that pass with bi-partisan support?

    • In my world and for most Americans, the worst isn’t over until the unemployment rate is back to where it was before the economic collapse last year. I have nothing invested in Wall Street. So the creative class in NYC and their rich friends might feel that the recession is over but in my state where the unemployment rate is astronomical, the worst might be just beginning.

    • I often wonder what Krugman’s price was.

    • Pelosi and Hoyer said that “drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.” Isn’t that what is happening when Congressional committees refuse to consider single payer health care?

      • They were accidentally honest about their own actions. Wonderment.

        • Frikkin idiots. 2010 will be a bloodbath, thanks to their arrogance.

          • I sometimes think they know it and are glad…making bad excuses about why long held Dem ideals are trashed now that they have more than enough power to vote them in, is hard work! It seems they want more GOP back in DC almost as bad as the GOP .

          • Pelosi and Dimocrats in DC have shown that they support the status quo and even the Bush era abuses. Their only concern is their own seat when is up for grabs and the amount of influence they have at their fancy dinner parties to hobnob with their big business associates. They love to blame the GOP for their incompetence. As long as Obama can raise enough money to win in 2012, they could care less about anything else that happens before then.

  2. A statue of Angelina Jolie nursing twin babies will arrive in Oklahoma.

    (This is not a rick-roll)

  3. The UK article was bad news.

I can only add that here in Italy, gross domestic product has fallen by 6%-the worse variation since1980.
(According to same sources US GDP has fallen by 3.9%.The worse since 1947)

    sources in Italian:

    • L,

I’ve seen other data that suggest Italy is one of the hardest hit western EU members. Given the passion in Italian politics, I suspect the uproar in the US healthcare forums will look like a tea party, comparatively.

      TY for the links.

  4. Good morning. This is good from @PumaSF.

  5. This isn’t astroturf, it’s “community organizing”

    • So is this:

House Democratic leaders have set up a healthcare “war room” to help their rank-and-file members navigate a tumultuous August in which they find themselves on the defensive on their signature issue.

The effort is being run out of Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s (D-Md.) office, but is being manned around the clock by a rotation of leadership and key committee staff members, according to leadership aides.

      • I think it’s pretty odd the Dems are subjecting the little Dems to these near riot town halls , particularly since at the same time , they say these town halls are right wing set up jobs….then why are they subjecting other dems to this tomato pelting kabuki? I guess to make it appear there is a differance between the two parties eliteson the topic of more money, less sick people for the insurance companies?

    • If this opportunity is being sent through emails only to members of Organizing for America, then he’s completely denying anyone else the chance to set up an appointment or be heard.

What a chickenshit. Hope his constituents find out, and bust him for it.

  6. This one is kinda clever:

  7. Will Stephen Colbert cover this story?:

In the evenings, Donna Munson liked to sit in front of her picture window and watch the bears amble toward her Ouray County log cabin for dinner.

The 74-year-old woman — who stocked her backyard with dog food, fruit and yogurt — was found dead outside her home Friday, being eaten by a bear.

It was still unknown Saturday whether a bear killed Munson or whether one or more animals consumed part of her body after her death. But people who knew her said she was an eccentric wildlife lover who had been feeding bears, elk, skunks and raccoons for years.

Munson, who rented half of her home in southwestern Colorado to several people over the years, told one of them that “when the time came, she wanted to go out with the bears.”

“She was a very sweet lady,” said Tammy York of Paonia, who rented part of Munson’s house several years ago. “She just loved nature. She probably shouldn’t have been alone out there in her state.”

Colorado Division of Wildlife agents had asked Munson so many times over the past decade to stop feeding bears that she quit taking their phone calls or accepting their certified letters and tried to ban them from her property.

Neighbors complained about a growing number of bears in the hills, ransacking trash cans and even trying to break into houses this summer. Still, Munson kept feeding the bears.

She died doing what she loved most – feeding bears.

    • Beary sad. 😦

    • Feeding bears is dangerous to other cabin owners (because they’ll expect food at all cabins) and irresponsible. It was wrong to do, put everyone’s life in danger.

  8. Looks like if the Dems have their way it’s only a mattter of time before they kill it all together. It’s a shame we can’t elect people that are willing to do something about it. I can’t find anyone ATM that doesn’t link to Fox for the story so I’m bringing it from Fox

No. 2 Senate Democrat ‘Open’ to Health Care Bill With No Public Option

    • Someone posted this last night from “The Hill” website. I also saw him on CNN. What he said was not that he was willing to have no public option but that he was willing to leave it out until later where it would be added in by committee. He did not say he agreed with or was open to reform that didn’t include the public option. He was referencing how things might have to be done to get the bill onto the floor.

      • Does anyone get how absolutely deceitful and hypocritical that posture is? No wonder the American people are up in arms when they have a congress that openly plots to devise legislation behind closed doors in closed committee so they can put things in that otherwise would not be able to pass.

  9. Was dissent ever patriotic? Deconstructing fuzzy memories of Bush times and righteous accusation of hypocrisy from the right

  10. Remember Kent State.

  11. who said

“It’s almost immoral what (insurance companies) are doing,” . “Of course they’ve been immoral all along in how they have treated the people they insure. They are the villains. They have been part of the problem in a major way.”

    That would be Nancy Pelosi

    But who also

In the current election cycle, the insurance industry has been Pelosi’s third-largest donor, giving her $31,000. HMOs and pharmaceuticals contributed generously as well, handing over $17,500 and $15,000 respectively. The finance/insurance/real estate sector has been by far the largest donor to Pelosi’s DCCC, giving it so far $3.4 million in the current cycle.

well that would be Nancy Pelosi too.

Who is holding a “donor maintenance” event,( a thank you party for you and me ) for big donors of 30,000 and up at her mansion in San Francisco and the next day, at her Napa Valley vineyard with the likes of David Axelrod and James Carville?

that would be Nancy as well .

I’m not pointing out Nancy’s summer break doings on a personal level , but as a class. This woman is supposedly the leader of the “liberal wing ” of the Dem party. It’s a party all right. And while Obama is not a socialist, the article I’m quoting is from a socialist site.

in the interest of reading everything and decideing for yourself, it’s often a good read.

    • Not to mention that the Pelosi -controlled House of Representatives has put $550 million of pork in the Defense Bill , to buy 8 luxury jets just for her Congresscritters’ use.

The woman is totally tone deaf.

    • Thanks-I shall bookmark that.

  12. Jake Tapper:

Supporters of President Obama formerly signed up as members of “Obama for America” received an email today from Mitch Stewart, the director of the group’s current incarnation, Organizing for America, to show up at town halls and congressional offices as a counter to the protestors against the president’s health care reform push.

Painting the protestors as “Insurance companies and partisan attack groups…stirring up fear with false rumors about the President’s plan,” Stewart’s email tells supporters whom their member of Congress is and even provides information about town hall meetings they may be holding.

Writes Stewart: “As you’ve probably seen in the news, special interest attack groups are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it’s getting ugly. Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can’t let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand.”

Supporters are told to stop by local congressional offices to show support for health care reform with the option of a “quick conversation with the local staff, tell(ing) your personal story, or even just drop(ping) off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you.”

    • Supporters of President Obama formerly signed up as members of “Obama for America” received an email today from Mitch Stewart,…

They didn’t read the fine print where it says you can be called on when needed …..for life .

      • Meh, I got my letter. I also get letters from Redstate. I think it’s good to know what BOTH sides are agitating for. Just because you get their email doesn’t mean you have to do a blessed thing they tell you.

  13. Somebody needs to work on his people skills:

Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.), at a town hall meeting about a highway project in his district on Friday, accused audience members who asked about healthcare reform during a question-and-answer session of being outsiders who “hijacked” his meeting.

“I’m listening to my constituents. These are people who live in the 13th congressional district, who vote in this district,” he said. “That’s who I’ve got to respond to.”

In fact, Scott directed his remark at Dr. Brian Hill, who is a resident of the 13th district. Hill asked why Scott is “voting for a healthcare plan that is shown not to work in Massachusetts.”

“Those of you here who have taken, and came, and hijacked this event that we’re dealing with here,” Scott said. “This is not a healthcare event. You made the choice to come here!”

Scott’s outburst came during the meeting’s question and answer session in which constituents were allowed to ask questions on any topic. A local NBC affiliate in Atlanta captured video of the meeting. Hill later stressed to the network that he’s not even a Republican.

At one point, Scott stood up and pointed, shouting, “You want a meeting with me on healthcare? I’ll give it to you!”

    • Heh, the only reason Dr Hill asked the question at this meeting at all is because he had been unable to get an answer from Scott’s office after multiple previous calls.

    • That’s the weird part…these pols have little experience with a non fawning public and they have been thrown in the deep end with an angry public while not even knowing what they are promoting/ defending beyond the buzz word , Obamacare? Who thought this would go well?? You have to wonder if they want this hot mess .

  14. Hmmmm?:

Kenneth Gladney sat in a wheelchair on Pershing Avenue Saturday, his knee bandaged, holding a flag that read: “Don’t Tread on Me.”

Gladney, 38, was handing out the same flags after a town hall forum in Mehlville Thursday night, when, he says, he was attacked by members of the Service Employees International Union.

Less than 48 hours later, protesters gathered Saturday in front of the union’s offices, many of them holding signs with a slightly different version of the message: “Don’t Tread on Kenny.”

Mild-spoken, bespectacled and politically conservative, Gladney, of St. Louis, now finds himself part of an escalating national debate on health care reform.

Supporters cheered. Brown finished by telling the crowd that Gladney is accepting donations toward his medical expenses. Gladney told reporters he was recently laid off and has no health insurance.

Irony isn’t dead, but it IS taking donations to pay for life-saving medical care.

  15. Hillary over the last couple of weeks has really gotten to me…and not in a totally good way. It’s not just N.Korea, it’s a whole string of things…

The Complicated Diplomatic Life of Hillary Clinton

  16. This is interesting

(Hattip to Redstate for bringing it to my attention)

    • I know the summer is going fast, but I didn’t realize it’s 2012 already !

    • Who’s paying them? $500 dollars a week to sell health reform to their local communities in California when government workers are getting paid with iou’s, is quite a slap in the face. IMO anyway.

Meet America’s New Celebrity ‘It’ Couple: Levi Johnston and Kathy Griffin

    • (((shaking head))) Me thinks, maybe he’s gone Hollywood, but didn’t make the ‘A List’ and had to become a hanger-on. Will he disclose if Kathy Griffin’s mother knows they are sleeping together? Will shows line up to ask him the most intimate questions about their time together? Hemmm…

    • “Just a ‘D List’ gigolo”

  18. From Politico:

A few days after suggesting that Democratic healthcare proposals being debated in Washington may imperil the life of her son, Trig, Sarah Palin Sunday urged reform opponents to not give the opposition fodder by disrupting town halls.

Palin’s comments, posted on her Facebook page, come after weeks of raucous town halls in which conservatives have shouted down members of Congress.

“There are many disturbing details in the current bill that Washington is trying to rush through Congress, but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment,” Palin wrote. “Such tactics diminish our nation’s civil discourse which we need now more than ever because the fine print in this outrageous health care proposal must be understood clearly and not get lost in conscientious voters’ passion to want to make elected officials hear what we are saying. Let’s not give the proponents of nationalized health care any reason to criticize us.”

  19. From Jon Soltz:

Last week, Congressman Joe Sestak jumped into the Democratic primary for the US Senate seat in Pennsylvania. Today, the over 105,000 veterans and civilian supporters at VoteVets.org are endorsing him.

Soltz wants more veterans, I want more liberals.

  20. Big Dog May Not Return to Leash After Pyongyang: Albert R. Hunt

Then there was the Obama administration. Publicly, the president praised Clinton. Privately, the White House downplayed the importance of Clinton’s role, with a top National Security Council official trashing the former president on background.

This comparatively disciplined White House tries to keep a tight rein on everyone, including top Cabinet members like Secretary Clinton.

The Big Dog doesn’t take well to a leash.

    • They are pathedic….so pissed because the North Koren guy WANTED Bill and not fluffy pillow Precious. I knew the excellent idea to send Bill did not come from Obama inc . They aren’t smart enough .

  21. That one’s got a loophole too. Yes, they’ll have to take your money for premiums even if you have pre-existing conditions but that doesn’t say they can’t deny you payment for services.

    • oh they love that part! That’s the fun part…denying you the coverage you paid for on top of 30% of every medical dollar spent.. And it’s treated as the word of god, with no recourse…WTF???

  22. This is too fucked up for words.

  23. This whole thing is such a mess – but then the American Revolution was started wiht only 12% of the population at the time.

  24. That won’t happen. Big Insurance is for that reform and no underwriting. The pay off is the new big captive market.

  25. If humans are like these beetles, then male Conflucians are doomed to be outbred by our adversaries!
