The WORM (What Obama Really Meant) Re-Turns

Even the most articulate and well-intentioned make gaffes. With a H/T to Laurie Marsen, the following comments were gathered from letters written to councils in the U.K. (Councils provide subsidized housing.)

1.. It’s the dogs’ mess that I find hard to swallow

2.. I want some repairs done to my cooker as it has backfired and burnt my knob off.

3.. I wish to complain that my father burnt his ankle very badly when he put his foot in the hole in his back passage..

4.. And their 18 year old son is continually banging his balls against my fence.

5.. I wish to report that tiles are missing from the outside toilet roof. I think it was bad wind the other day that blew them off.

6..My lavatory seat is cracked, where do I stand?

7.. I am writing on behalf of my sink, which is coming away from the wall.

8.. Will you please send someone to mend the garden path. My wife tripped and fell on it yesterday and now she is pregnant.

9.. I request permission to remove my drawers in the kitchen.

10.. 50% of the walls are damp, 50% have crumbling plaster, and 50% are Plain filthy.

11.. I am still having problems with smoke in my new drawers.

12.. The toilet is blocked and we cannot bath the children until it is Cleared.

13..Will you please send a man to look at my water, it is a funny colour and Not fit to drink.

14..Our lavatory seat is broken in half and now is in three pieces.

15..I want to complain about the farmer across the road. Every morning at 6am his cock wakes me up and it’s now getting too much for me.

16..The man next door has a large erection in the back garden, which is Unsightly and dangerous.

17..Our kitchen floor is damp. We have two children and would like a third So please send someone round to do something about it.

18..I am a single woman living in a downstairs flat and would you please do something about the noise made by the man on top of me every night..

19..Please send a man with the right tool to finish the job and satisfy my wife.

20.. I have had the clerk of works down on the floor six times but I still have no satisfaction.

21. This is to let you know that our lavatory seat is broke and we can’t get BBC2.

22.. My bush is really overgrown round the front and my back passage has fungus growing in it.

23..He’s got this huge tool that vibrates the whole house and I just can’t take it anymore.

Other times, less-than-well-intentioned people make gaffes from which they and their confreres spin like dervishes to try to avoid being tangled in their contradictions, lies, or bad conduct. Often they are caught in the absurdity of their act.

For example, Obama made much of the fact that he made a speech against going to war in Iraq in 2002, whereas in 2004 he said he did not know how he would have voted on going to war, had he been in the US Senate.  He also said:

“On Iraq, on paper, there’s not as much difference, I think, between the Bush administration and a Kerry administration as there would have been a year ago. There’s not that much difference between my position and George Bush’s position at this stage. The difference, in my mind, is who’s in a position to execute.”

Clearly, the events of 2004 nullified the force of his speech in 2002.  Nonetheless, Obama knowingly propagated the ridiculous claim that he had always been against the war.  When confronted in the press that his claim about always being against the war was not true (i.e. it was a lie) because of what he said in 2004,  as with Russert as linked above, he slithered about the issue saying it would have been impolitic of him to critique the front-runners.  In other words, when he was quoted in 2004, he was lying for political gain.  In other words, “I’m not lying lying now.  I was lying then.”

Please share the WORM moment, outright contradiction, or Obama apologetic that you find the most laughably absurd.  If it brings laughter at his expense, so much the better.

  1. Oh from just the other day when Obama mocked the gay man who asked him when he was going to start honoring his promises, and it was immediately turned into a sincere affirmation of how deeply he feels the need to deliver on all his promises.

I wish I had a Greek chorus following me around instantly retconning everything I say.

  2. As someone who loathes war, that was among his many unforgivable sins to me. He gave a speech in 2002 that was almost exactly the same speech as the one Hillary gave on the Senate floor in 2002, when she explained her vote for Military Authorization in Iraq.
Unlike Hillary’s speech, his was a completely irrelevant speech that practically no one payed any attention to. There were no news reports about it, and he said himself that he would have voted the same way. Many anti-war activists at the time never saw him participate in the debate.
Like SOD, I hate revitionist history. I loathe it and despise it. Obama was never an “Anti-War” Candidate. I was disgusted with many Democrats who seemed to think he had superior judgement in foreign policy because of a speech.
The man was a liar, cheat, and fraud from the beginning.

  3. At uppity woman’s blog there is a story about extremist muslims beheading a British man and posting the video today.
Hey backtrack while you are accepting gifts and talking to your best friends forever they are killing civilians.
Talk your self out of that one.

  4. Well, we’ve all known since we were wee ones what happens when you go tripping down that garden path.

    • os,

Is it not less fun when the garden’s secret is divinely conceived?

  5. One of the most entertaining and sad turns of the WORM – during the Wright incident – the throw grandma from the bus. Trying to WORM out of the bestest speech ever on race he got to the “typical white person”
    See here with quotes
    Same with the “bitter” comments

    • EoF,

      Nice detective work. Good link.

    • I still feel bad for his grandmother. I’ve heard so much about how psychologically damaging it must have been to grow up that way. Yeah, IF it’s true, but he’s a pathological liar who has a penchant for completely mischaracterizing everyone around him to make himself look better. Why would anyone just take his word, especially knowing she wouldn’t undercut his bid by contradicting him publicly? It may be stonecold to throw a family member under the bus based on a lie but I wouldn’t put it past him.

      • Me too – feel bad for his grandma. And remember when he went to Hawaii with his family, and visited her what – half an hour?
        Without the great grandchildren!

Of course his grandparents loved him, but I have wondered about, but never heard anyone else voice, how it must have been, not only sacrificing to raise a child again at their age, but to raise a biracial grandchild?
Couldn’t it have been more of an “issue” back then, than it is today?

  6. O/T but I just read about Obama’s statements re Bill and Hillary, quoted in Wolfe’s book. I am so p*ssed off, I can’t see straight. Bill is a “baldfaced liar” and Hillary as SOS was merely a sop to the Senate, which wanted nothing more than to get rid of her. What a bastard!!!!

    • SoD,

This is a great example because blowing things out of proportion and context was a specialty of his campaign and their supporters.

  7. Obiteme is number 49 on Forbe’s Celebrity 100 list. The first head of state to be on the list. He is Brittany! 🙂

Angelina Jolie knocked Oprah out of first place. I like that.

  8. It’s so hard to pick the most ridiculous WORM, there are so many and they come fast and furious. When he changed his excuses about Wright on a daily basis for that first week when it was exposed, I couldn’t believe he was not called on it. One day, it was I wasn’t IN church on that day–I never heard that. Then it was, “Well I was there, but didn’t hear it.” It kept morphing until he was there, he heard it, but Wright was family, yada yada yada. Then, of course, another boring speech to save his skin, and everyone cheered.

Oh–I just thought of another one:

Will you meet with hostile despots without preconditions?

    Yes, I will.

How fast did he backpedal on that, and start reciting Hillary’s answer?

Ditto NAFTA, FISA, his parents conceiving him at Selma, being a law professor, etc. etc. etc. Bald-faced liar indeed.

How many times did he say, “That is not the “X” I knew?”

  9. bostonboomer is gonna love this …

Obama creates a Reagan Centennial Commision

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signed one for the Gipper.

    • ROFLMAO And there it is–the new progressive hero. He battled that commie FDR to a standstill and rolled back the Russia inspired New Deal.

    • He is consistent in his love for Reagan. Why won’t republicans love him back? He tries so hard to please them but they keep rejecting him. What does he have to do to get them to like him?

  10. Heh

Yeah I’d almost forgotten how he insinuated her experience with diplomacy amounted to “tea parties”. Funny how now despite her “limited tea party like” experience and the fact that she is a “racist”, he nominated her to the position of SoS.

Like I said in the last thread that either makes him and incompetent boob or a loathsome disgusting smearmonger.

Take your pick I don’t find either description flattering and what I wish in a CiC.

    • It’s one of those Bush things–he’s both. But honestly, what’s worst about him being a loathsome disgusting smearmonger is, as usual, the self righteousness. It’s always the moral scolds like Edwards who end up getting caught in the sex scandal. I don’t expect Obama to stand up and declare himself to be the dirtiest politician around, I just expect him to lay off the bs. If you’re going to engage in dirty tactics, don’t talk about hope and change and new politics and DON’T project everything you do on to everybody else and scapegoat them you damn hypocrite.

  11. Other times, it’s exactly what he meant…

  12. Bill Clinton fed up with Obama’s WORM record as well:
