    • No The Solution To Ending Mandatory Masking Isn’t "Well YOU can still mask”
Few things make more more tired or contemptuous of someone than, when a masking mandate is removed, someone saying “well, you still have the choice to wear a mask, we’re not effecting you” or some variation. Masking is not primarily about protecting yourself. Only a respirator and a well-fitted N95 offer good protection from Covid if other people aren’t mask […]

A 51-year-old suspect, identified by sheriff’s deputies as Scott Roeder, was arrested three hours after the shooting in a Kansas City suburb about 170 miles from Wichita. Police said he would likely be charged today with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

  • Early signs of Ted Kennedy-Max Baucus split?

Ted Kennedy and Max Baucus – the Senate’s top Democratic negotiators on health care – declared repeatedly in recent months that they would be partners, not competitors, despite their ideological differences.

But when a draft outline of a liberal Kennedy bill surfaced last week, it renewed speculation that friction between two of the most important players in health care would be inevitable.

  • Obama’s support for the new Graham-Lieberman secrecy law

Obama wants Congress to change FOIA by retroactively narrowing its disclosure requirements, prevent a legal ruling by the courts, and vest himself with brand new secrecy powers under the law which, just as a factual matter, not even George Bush sought for himself.

The White House is actively supporting a new bill jointly sponsored by Sens. Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman — called The Detainee Photographic Records Protection Act of 2009that literally has no purpose other than to allow the government to suppress any “photograph taken between September 11, 2001 and January 22, 2009 relating to the treatment of individuals engaged, captured, or detained after September 11, 2001, by the Armed Forces of the United States in operations outside of the United States.” As long as the Defense Secretary certifies — with no review possible — that disclosure would “endanger” American citizens or our troops, then the photographs can be suppressed even if FOIA requires disclosure. The certification lasts 3 years and can be renewed indefinitely. The Senate passed the bill as an amendment last week.

  • The Obama Infatuation

The Obama infatuation is a great unreported story of our time. Has any recent president basked in so much favorable media coverage? Well, maybe John Kennedy for a moment, but no president since. On the whole, this is not healthy for America.
Obama has inspired a collective fawning. What started in the campaign (the chief victim was Hillary Clinton, not John McCain) has continued, as a study by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism shows.

The “new GM” will get $30.1 billion in bankruptcy financing from the government, and the Treasury “does not anticipate providing any additional assistance” after that, the Obama administration said yesterday in a statement.

    1. “The Obama Infatuation” article is just a tease.

He has some interesting numbers but his analysis is FUBAR

    2. Still what shocked me in the “Obama infatuation” article is the fact that they say that Hillary, not McCain was its major victim. And it says “not healthy” in the first paragraph.
And one of my own illustrations of the concept

      • The infatuation matters because Obama’s ambitions are so grand.
If only. I’m still reeling from yesterday, its history and significance. This last year has been the worst of my life and I lay it squarely at the feet of whoever this puppet master is. There really is no where for me to go politically in America. I disagree with the Republicans on 98% of the issues and I think the Democrats are too stupid to vote or govern their way out of a paper bag.

      • Read the reader comments on this one. The majority are drenched in yet more Obama infatuation, devoid of all reason, logic, or substance. We have indeed become a nation of idiots with keyboards.

    3. There are a whole lot of accessories to the murder of George Tiller — and yes this sort of behavior is TERRORISTIC THREATENING — and in some states this happens to be a crime — that would be the a$$ holes who were calling for the murder of Dr. Tiller.

Larry Summers is a misogynistic freak — so it is no surprise that he has no morals. But then he is a poster child for the freaks that 0zero surrounds himself.

But hey — the 0bots got a penis elected and isn’t that what the last election was all about — teaching us wimmins our proper place in this world???

Thanks for for NOT putting a photo of the narcissistic jerk up there with the stuff about the orgasmic trip the media is having over 0zero.

    4. Oops! That was me before – had been posting in my personal blog and forgot to switch

    5. Oh my. Gibbs’ snide attack on the British Press over the torture photos may come back to bite Obama.

As for going after the British media, Delingpole wrote, “We know we’re not angels. We know we can go over the top sometimes. But unfortunately that’s a much bigger problem for you than it is for us. You see, while a lot of your mainstream media will hold fire on stories which they think may reflect poorly on your wondrous Obamamessiah — what his half-brother has been up to, say — we have fewer qualms about telling it like it is. So far, you’ve had a pretty easy ride. The Obama Kool Aid has proved almost as popular beverage in Britain as it is in the US. But just you wait till we start showing our teeth.”

      • LOL. I liked this bit:

Increasingly, millions of Americans are turning to online UK news websites for cutting edge reports on American politics and U.S. foreign policy that the mainstream media refuses to cover in the States, especially if it is unflattering to the Obama White House. /

        Could it (millions) be true???

(that said the Daily Telegraph made its online name dealing out the dirt on Bill Clinton)

    6. We can hope, anyhow.

    7. Note that the increased US death toll in Iraq was reported by the BBC, US media was too busy reporting on Obama’s “date night” to bother.

Frankly I’m surprised Samuelson’s piece in the WP got published at all, no matter his analysis.

    8. Robin McGehee’s Msg to President Obama – “Show Me You Have The Courage”

Robin McGehee’s heartfelt and transcendent speech at the Meet in the Middle 4 Equality rally held in Fresno, CA on Saturday, May 30, 2009 – the first Saturday after the CA Supreme Court ruled on the court case to invalidate Prop 8 that passed in November 2008, eliminating the right of same-sex couples to legally marry.

At 4:30 into the video, Robin McGehee gives a message to President Obama, asking him “show me you have the courage, show me you have the courage to produce change that I’ve believed in, that I’ve lobbied for. I’ve believed in you, and I’m asking you to prove it.”

Robin McGehee was forced to resign from her position as President of a P.T.A. board after she attended a “No on 8” rally. She was instrumental in organizing the Meet In The Middle 4 Equality rally.

“show me you have the courage, show me you have the courage to produce change that I’ve believed in, that I’ve lobbied for, even against a woman Hillary Clinton. I’ve believed in you, and I’m asking you to prove it.”-Robin McGehee

They left out the part of campaigning against Hillary Clinton (the candidate with a record) the best candidate that just happened to be a woman. I feel sad and sadder when I think that he isn’t going to keep any of his promises.

No coverage of ‘Meet In The Middle’?

      • I didn’t bother to watch that video, but the look on McGehee’s face reminded me of that “Leave Obama Alone” video from last year.

      • The fact that his opponent was a female should have mattered less than the fact that McGehee lobbied against a person who marched in a Gay pride parade and didn’t treat homosexuality like a disease. When you couple that with the fact that the person McGehee lobbied for publically gave a platform to someone who called being gay an affliction it pretty much makes McGehee Idiot of the Year. I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone so willfully stupid. I’ll save my sympathy for the gays who lobbied for Clinton because they realized that Obama would not be offering them equality. It’s just a shame that Hillary can’t fit all those ex supporters in her State Department where they would be offered as close to equality as they are likely to be offered during the Obama reign.

      • What a fool.

      • Show me you have the courage…? To what? Be the jerk you’ve always seemed to be? How could so many people be so blinded by the slogans that they didn’t see Homey the Clown behind the confetti? Not only is “I told you so” unsatisfactory, seeing evidence of buyer’s remorse from people who act surprised to find out fertilizer is bullshit, pisses me off.

        • The Equality movement ought to be saved from the stupidity of people who can’t take the time to bother to reconcile if the actions are equivalent to the words being spoken by a politician. That goes both for the movement for gay equality or for the eradication of misogyny.

          Meet in the Middle indeed.

    9. The WaPo publishing an article on the media infatuation for Obama is as ironic as the NYT publishing stories on the lies that led to the Iraq invasion. Both rags were complicit in both events.

    10. Yeah, I thought the same thing when I read it. They were on the list of favorable news outlets from the research…

    11. There’s a vigil for Dr. Tiller tonight in Seattle. I plan to be there, but I’m worried that some total asshat is going to take the opportunity to talk up Obama, our “pro-choice president”, as though he weren’t more of a hindrance than a help.

If that happens, I’m going to throw a fit and ruin the event, and then I’ll feel really guilty. But better that than just choking down another heaping helping of hypocrisy from the people that cheated us out of a competent President.

    12. UPI – Sunday, May 31: Federal agencies are joining the investigation of the slaying in Kansas of a doctor who performed abortions, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Sunday. …In a statement, Holder called the killing “an abhorrent act of violence” and said he has directed the U.S. Marshals Service to offer protection “to other appropriate people and facilities around the nation.” “The Department of Justice will work to bring the perpetrator of this crime to justice,” Holder said. “As a precautionary measure, we will also take appropriate steps to help prevent any related acts of violence from occurring.”

    13. Does anyone know what made George Tiller so adamant and persistent in his support? I mean I’m (not) sorry, but most guys will think twice about how supportive they are of women’s rights when their girlfriend corrects them in public, and here was a guy who got bombed and shot at and kept at it.

Are there any interviews with him where he says what kept him at it? Let’s face it, there’s a lot more Bill O’Reillys in this world when it coemst o women’s rights than George Tillers. What made this man so committed that he was willing to dodge bullets to support us?

      • Read the transcript at Democracy Now. It includes Dr. Tiller’s explanation in his own words. He was truly a remarkable humanitarian who believed that women were intelligent beings capable of making all the necessary decisions regarding their personal health. Sadly, there are very few male doctors like him, regardless of medical specialty.

        • To be fair, there are also a hell of a lot of female doctors who fail to live up to those standards, too.

Why NOW needs new leadership, and why you should care

Kim Gandy’s tenure as president of NOW is up, and the election for her replacement is in June. Kim’s hand-picked successor is Latifa Lyles, NOW’s current Vice President for Membership. I’ve got nothing against Latifa personally, though I do note that membership has dropped during her tenure as the membership director, which is possibly not an encouraging sign. But the main problem with Latifa is that she’s the choice of Kim Gandy and Ellie Smeal (they’re a team, you unnerstan). She’s their candidate. With Latifa we will get more of the same, only samer.

Instead, we need to support Terry O’Neill. Terry and her slate are running against the Kimandellie team, and they will bring the change that’s needed. As Terry says:

“Women around the country are fed up with persistent inequality and ready to put justice for women at center stage. I’m ready to lead NOW in making that happen. Upon election, I’ll launch a series of action campaigns to demand the things women need to achieve real equality. I’ll also restore NOW’s financial health by bringing together our vendors, donors and leaders to work with me in implementing a plan to reverse our membership losses and renew our message and mission.”

    18. This is from the June 1 edition of Pravda – kind of scary that they can see it but most Americans can’t.

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people…

    19. Remember this guy who hated Hillary so much that he told her she had to get out of the race. Infact when Obama offered Hillary the SOS job, he went on Larry King and told him how Hillary had to follow Obama’s orders on any foreign policy. He also snubbed her at the inauguration.

Carter “Disappointed” In Obama’s Refusal To Release Photos

Former President Jimmy Carter told CNN’s Campbell Brown some of President Obama’s supporters are disappointed in him. “Most of his supporters were hoping that he would be much more open in the revelation of what we’ve done in the past,” said the former president, although he added that he still respects Obama’s judgment on the issue: “I don’t agree with him, but I certainly don’t criticize him for making that decision.”

    20. Well, here’s a fine story. Obama has increased the number of mercenaries in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are now about 50% of US personnel in the war zones.

“According to new statistics released by the Pentagon, with Barack Obama as commander in chief, there has been a 23% increase in the number of “Private Security Contractors” working for the Department of Defense in Iraq in the second quarter of 2009 and a 29% increase in Afghanistan, which “correlates to the build up of forces” in the country. These numbers relate explicitly to DoD security contractors. Companies like Blackwater and its successor Triple Canopy work on State Department contracts and it is unclear if these contractors are included in the over-all statistics. This means, the number of individual “security” contractors could be quite higher, as could the scope of their expansion.”

I’m sure this will win us a lot of friends in the regions.

      • (sigh) Why — oh, why?

      • I thought Hillary fired Blackwater. Atleast that is what I read 2 months ago.

        • Triple Canopy is the follow-on company since Blackwater is gone with State. Chances are Blackwater is still in the mix somewhere though since they renamed the company to Xi or something like that in an effort to disappear.

    21. Another interesting news item. Ignore if someone mentioned it and I missed it. But Dick Cheney came out today (or was it last night) and is now for Gay Marriage. There was a discussion on CNN today with Paul Bugala and others, Paul had to admit that Dick is for Gay Marriage whereas Obama is against it. He said it’s a dark day for Democrats that they are behind Cheney on such a fundamental right.
