Obama ain’t Jesus (UPDATED)

"The Truth"

"The Truth"

He’s not even Kanye West.

From WND:

On his 100th day in office, President Obama will be “crowned” in messianic imagery at New York City’s Union Square.

Artist Michael D’Antuono’s painting “The Truth” – featuring Obama with his arms outstretched and wearing a crown of thorns upon his head – will be unveiled on April 29 at the Square’s South Plaza.

According to a statement released about the portrait, “The 30″ x 54″ acrylic painting on canvas depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross: atop his head, a crown of thorns; behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. But is he revealing or concealing, and is he being crucified or glorified?”

Even the title of the piece, “The Truth,” suggests a play on biblical themes, as Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

As far as I can tell this isn’t a hoax.  (But it should be)

The artist has changed his mind about unveiling his magnum opus on Wednesday.

He’s surprised by the negative reaction.

  1. this is a JOKE right??it has to be..

  2. It sounds like a joke but, here’s another piece by the same artist. He seems totally sincere.

  3. hmmm this is gona be a tuff one for the O-bots they wont know to do either call it racist or bow down to it

  4. They wrote about this on Moonbattery. I thought it was a joke but perhaps I am wrong.

  5. Either way, it’s laughable.

I may just get on the subway with a can of gasoline and get rid of it before it spreads

    • Oh no!

      Don’t do that.

This kinda thing needs LOTS of attention.

      • Ok-

I;ll pack a BIGASS can of gasoline, and I’ll wear my Pope dress to boot (including the smoking handbag) just to get some attention. Think that’ll get a tumble from the press?

        • Wear your bullet-proof underwear too, arson is considered a dangerous felony.

(Don’t worry about bail money, save your cash for a good lawyer instead)

  6. I remember my liberal friends whining about those “accidental” photographs of Dubya with halos of light around his head. Let’s see how “outraged” they are over this.

  7. “Howls of derisive laughter, Bruce!”

  8. I hope someone can help me with this. The New Agenda is posting one of my pieces. I would like to have a PUMAsphere member badge on my blog. This is very important to me. I have written to the PUMA organization several times to join and I do not hear anything. Is it possible that someone could write a letter of support on my behalf? I am concerned that perhaps it is my blog material because I am conservative. Could someone vouch for me that I have been a good PUMA? I would like the ladies who read the New Agenda to see that I am a PUMA too.

    • Hi afrocity
As far as I can see you´ve just to go to the pumasphere site, scroll down, click on Add this logo on the right and follow the instructions.
      Greetings and back to lurking

  9. “But is he revealing or concealing, and is he being crucified or glorified?”

    None of the above

    He’s just being exaggerated.

You know for a middle of the roader, this guy is getting a lot of attention. Maybe it’s the “beauty” phenomenon. “A new study published last month in the journal Psychological Science, offered a new explanation why average faces (mathematically average, not average-looking) are judged more attractive.”

Maybe Obama is a near perfect compilation of the middle of the road in political thought. Thus, idealized

    • I’m skeptical about studies like this, especially ones that don’t take gender differences into account. Most of the men’s faces that women seem to like to judge from celebrities always have one honking exaggerated feature. (Women’s faces all look interchangeable to me in Hollywood, though. If you can tell Cameron Diaz apart from Gwyneth Paltrow in dim lighting, or Kiera Knightley from Natalie Portman, I’ll hand you a dollar.)

But the men’s faces women like always seem to have overly wide eyes, a really long nose, strange lips, or a skinny chin, or something. I’ve seen as many “studies” that show people faces that have had certain features like eye or mouth size and shape computer exaggerated, and people rate THEM more attractive …

      • Janis, I have a popular culture deficit. I don’t know some of the people you mentioned. No dollar.

  10. I liked jsom’s pice about this where he said that Obama was in the applause gathering pose of a solid-gold dancer.

This grotesque thing should be defaced immediately.

  11. Why aren’t the Christians yelling about this blasphemous depiction of a human being depicted as Christ, with the thorny crown and all? WTF?!? This is really over-the-top nuttery!! I was howling with outrage when late-night TV was hawking the Dubya plates and Newsweek was fainting and orgasming over our Popular Wartime Leader. This is much worse!

  12. This has to be a joke. Really. It has to be. They’re just seeing how much we’ll believe.

  13. afrocity — I’ll put you on the blogroll right now at pumapac and send you the Pumasphere widget.

Sorry if you were trying to reach me.

    my email is murphy@pumapac.org

on topic — i cant find any other source for this other than WND. Do you think it might be a hoax?

  14. Some artists will do anything for money 👿

  15. he’s gotta be Jesus, Jesus was humble….this is humble right? Even Michelle is humble….

  16. Jeebus:

A Boeing 747 used by the president was escorted over lower Manhattan by an Air Force fighter jet Monday as part of a government photo opportunity and training mission, causing a brief panic among office workers near where hijacked passenger jets crashed into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

Planes can’t fly over Manhattan anymore, unless Teh Precious wants a photo-op?

    • I just heard about that. Apparently Mayor Bloomberg isn’t real happy about it.

    • MYIQ, not only can planes (supposedly) not fly over Manhattan, but the last time I took a night flight from FL the pilot had to get permission on a gorgeous clear night to even point out Manhattan to us as we flew by…the required number of miles offshore, of course.

  17. **Blearch!!!**

Has he even done more than a plan to have an action to make a speech about the “conscience rule” for drs. and pharms?????

  18. I suspect this type of art will be wonderful for helping GOTV for Republicans.

  19. Ok, so what if W2 is the antichrist?

I am just asking, do we have an action plan?

Far be it from me to pretend that I know what an antichrist looks like but I always assume there would be something like “Hey everybody look at me, I’m here to replace Jesus!”

So what if Oprah is right and this is the “One?”

  20. I think this is great! Look at Obama’s face, looks like he’s smirking … like he knows his Christ-likeness is a big joke.

I’m inclined to think this is satire because of that smirk. But either way, this will produce a huge outcry from bible-thumpers, and then Obama will be forced to come out and decry it (as a real Christian would). If he doesn’t the Fox media types will really hammer home the Christlike imagery Obama is consistently portrayed as. Perhaps this is a way to bring that issue more into the light.

  21. “Waffles into whine”

  22. Interesting. The way the curtains are held back makes the shape of a pentagon behind him.

    Prince of Peace? Not.

    • okashi, What an observation! I see it now. I’m convinced that this art message is definitely anti-Obama satire, a message for his 100 days.

  23. looks like you got a bot infestion RD

  24. do you want me 2 get rid oh them for you

  25. you still there fembot 4 obama

  26. The artist is **surprised** at the negative response? I don’t even know what to say to that, except to shake my head.
