Conflucians Say: SOS edition

It’s Shakespeare’s B-day:

Include your favorite quote in the comments.

PUR is still working for us but who knows when Conflucians Say will be shut down and we’ll be forced to move to a new venue?  Hey, it could happen during tonight’s show!  That’s how far out on a limb we’re going.  We’ll be catching up on all things Secretary of State related and maybe Dakinikat will tell us what’s up with the banks and why are they forcing GM into bankruptcy.

Join us for Conflucians Say at 10PM EST on PUMA United Radio (PURrrr)

A Storm is Gaythering

Some of you may have all ready seen this hilariously homophobic ad by the National Organization for Marriage. (According to Egalia from TGW, NOM also is also prejudiced towards single mothers):

OH, Fear Mongering. Doncha just love it? I love the woman who says, “I am a Massachusetts mother helplessly watching Public Schools Teach my Son… that Same Sex Marriage is okay.”

Well, my Public School did nothing when four different students from my graduating class committed suicide. Three boys and one girl, two of them were harassed so relentlessly with anti-gay slurs that parents are now trying to force my (former) High School to increase funding for a better anti-bullying program with a lawsuit (our current one was aimed at children in elementary schools. Obviously ineffective.) The father was quoted in an ABC news article that I have on file as saying that it’s a shame he had to use a lawsuit to get my school to pay attention to it’s “problem”, but it just struck him as strange that they could spend a million dollars on a new football field, but couldn’t bother to increase funding for student harassment prevention. Particularly since violent fights broke out in my school on an almost monthly basis and were something of a spectator sport.

Those terrible events happened when I was a Junior. The girl that killed herself was a Lesbian, and also personally deeply Religious. I cared about her very much. She had been a close friend of mine since we were eight years old, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss her and think of her.

But I am getting ahead of myself. The NOM Ad has been parodied in several hilarious ways, but this one was my favorite:

But this all leads me back to this silly controversy over Perez Hilton and Miss California. Now, I just want to set the record straight. I don’t do Beauty Pageants. But a couple of days ago I got an email from my BFF, and she gave me links to what Miss California had said, and the subject line was, “what do you think of this?”

I clicked on it, expecting some stupid rant similar to the one above in NOM’s Marriage Ad, but all she really said was, “I was raised to believe that Marriage should be between a man and a woman.”

Well, obviously I disagree. I do support Gay Marriage personally. I don’t always agree with Wanda Sykes, but I like what she says, “If you’re against same sex marriage, then don’t marry someone of the same sex!” And I do think that Same Sex Marriage Laws should be left to the states, but I think equality of benefits is a right.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face

nose

Some of the comments in Riverdaughter’s thread this morning brought up an issue that should be dead and buried by now –  Barack Obama won the election and is now the 44th President of the United States.

I agree with Staunchwoman when she says:

He’s a sneaky lying bastard and the ONLY reason he won is because he cheated.

But I don’t agree with statements like this:

I’ve no doubt that Hillary would have made a better president than the turd we have now. However, she attached herself to a sleazeball. She’s just a brown-noser.

Hillary Clinton was wrongly denied the Democratic nomination and the job she earned. It had to be one of the most painful things that ever happened to her. She could have done a lot of things afterwards.  She could have simply returned to the Senate and continued to represent the state of New York. She could have retired and traveled the world with Bill working on the Clinton Global Initiative.

She could have gone home and pouted.

Of the options available to her, she chose to become Secretary of State where she could use her talent and ability to best serve both the United States and the world.

Some people seem to think Hillary should remain angry and bitter until the end of her days. They think that she and her supporters (that’s us) should obstruct and undermine everything Obama does, even if he’s doing something that benefits us. They want Obama to fail, and they want us to help make it happen. If we did that we would be the irrational haters that the pathetic blogstalkers claim we are.

I’m not gonna forget (or forgive) how Obama became POTUS, but like it or not he’s still gonna be the head cheese for a while.  If he fails we all suffer.  I’d rather have peace and prosperity.

I will oppose him when he deserves it, criticize him without mercy and mock him at every opportunity. But I will praise him when he deserves it, support him if he does the right thing and pray he successfully leads out nation out of the crisis we are in.

He deserves praise for appointing Hillary as SoS, even if she twisted his arm to make him do it. With more people like her in his Cabinet our nation will be in good hands while Obama spends his time walking the First Dog and whatever other things he is qualified to do.

Thursday: Take your children to work day

Mornin’ all.  I have to hurry to work for an early TC and some fun with the kids so I don’t have time for a lengthy post.  BUT, there are some amusing videos of Hillary’s testimony on Capitol Hill in front of the House Foreign Affairs committee.  She got plenty of praise from Floridian Robert Wexler, who you may recall completely trashed her at the RBC meeting last year.  (BTW, Hillary, you were wrong about losing the primaries.  We can count, you know.  He may be the president but we know he didn’t win it fair and square.  We know it’s your job to be diplomatic but it was OUR VOTES.  We will never forget.)

So, without further adieu, I give you our SOS, speaking plainly:

and this out Dick Cheney:

There’s a lot more where that came from.  She’s fricking brilliant.  She should be president.  We all lost last year and will be paying for it for decades to come.  God, what a stupendous loss.

In other news, it’s bright and sunny in NJ!  Go outside and smell the periwinkle.
