That’ll Learn ‘Em!

Following is the text of President Obama’s statement Sunday on North Korea’s rocket launching, as released by the White House:

North Korea’s development and proliferation of ballistic missile technology pose a threat to the northeast Asian region and to international peace and security. The launch today of a Taepo-dong 2 missile was a clear violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1718, which expressly prohibits North Korea from conducting ballistic missile-related activities of any kind. With this provocative act, North Korea has ignored its international obligations, rejected unequivocal calls for restraint, and further isolated itself from the community of nations.

We will immediately consult with our allies in the region, including Japan and the Republic of Korea, and members of the U.N. Security Council to bring this matter before the Council. I urge North Korea to abide fully by the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council and to refrain from further provocative actions.

Preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery is a high priority for my administration. The United States is fully committed to maintaining security and stability in northeast Asia and we will continue working for the verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through the Six-Party Talks. The Six-Party Talks provide the forum for achieving denuclearization, reducing tensions, and for resolving other issues of concern between North Korea, its four neighbors, and the United States. North Korea has a pathway to acceptance in the international community, but it will not find that acceptance unless it abandons its pursuit of weapons of mass destruction and abides by its international obligations and commitments. (emphasis added)

IOW – Other than this “sternly worded” statement we ain’t gonna do diddley-squat.  That statement sure isn’t gonna scare anyone.  But I guess there’s not much we could do to a petty dictator whose power is based on a cult of personality anyway.

No, not Obama, this guy:

  1. B0 also on Saturday showed his alleged great talent for negotiating. (Did he drag them into a corner?) He convinced the Turks to agree to the appointment of the Danish PM as new General Secretary of Nato. The price:
A Turk must be appointed second in command in Nato.
A Turk must be appointed Head of disarmament.
The special envoy to Afghanistan must remain Turkish.
The Danish PM must apologize for – not just explain – the Muhammed Cartoons.
And the Danish government must shut down the Kurd TV station ROJ, which broadcasts from DK.
To me it sure looks like the Turks are the better negotiators.

    • Wow, that’s some high quality negotiating. If I were Denmark, I would have to say hell no when it comes to shutting down the tv station. How odd that our gentleman of the slavish media worship doesn’t seem to put any value on the free exchange of information.

    • That’s bad news for the Kurds. I knew BO would sell them downhill.

    • The only agreement is that Roj TV, which was already being investigated to find out whether it has any ties with the Kurdish militant group PKK or has advocated terror attacks, something the station has repeatedly denied, would have a “complete investigation”.

“If it can be proven that Roj TV is involved in terror activities, we will of course do all we can to shut down the television station,” was the statement.

Seems PIPs is stating the Turk’s request as if it was the agreement – and it is not.

Can we get back to using facts to dump on Obama ? – God knows there are enough of them – from why are the Bank CEO’S/EXECUTIVES still working when 50,000 well qualified replacements are out of work in New York City – or do you need the right club membership in order to be considered qualified. We run the banks just like we run GM and if we can fire GM’s CEO we can fire the bank’s senior executives – if you prove you are not competent why should you have a job? Likewise a shovel surge to build schools is needed to “win” in Afghanistan/Iraq – and all we talk about is combat troops – meanwhile – after the the law is passed – we say we do not like new laws making forced sex ever 4 days a law together with permission to rape your wife plus forbidding women leaving the house without husband’s approval/permission.

Why make up crap – Obama has actually real negatives to discuss – we do not need to pretend there are evils when the other side can show that we can not point to anything to prove those evils exist – let’s focus on the real mistakes.

      • PiP lives in Denmark and is a national there. He is giving news as seen from a Danish perspective. He/she is not necessarily making up crap, but you are definitely presuming it.

        • Thanks for having my back Laurie.
It now seems, that here are even more demands from the Turks, than the ones I mentioned. We will see. This is after all politics, and the truth is sort of elusive:-)

        • PS Papau is a good example of a hit and run….

  2. Well now that N. Korea has been properly chastised I’m sure they’ll be better behaved. I mean, what else could we have done; shoot down the missile?

    • Talking tough when you can’t do anything makes you look ridiculous.

(So does bowing and scraping to the King of Saudi Arabia)

  3. Sounds like the usual imperialistic Amerikkan bluster to me. Or do you want macho threats to nuke North Korea (and its people) into a parking lot? Not even the knuckle-dragging Bush was stupid enough for that. What I would like is something based on woman-wisdom – out of left field and disorientingly not aggressive. Show the North Korean jokers up for the bluff-meisters they are.

  4. A couple hours ago I read about this launch on fox.com and the headline was “PROVACATIVE” and the by-line was “a test for a future missile that could reach Alaska?” It said the UN had called an emergency meeting.

Now, that article has disappeared and has been replaced by an insinuation that Obama called that meeting. Nope.

Hey, Obama! It’s 3 AM! Get up!

    • The Un called the meeting at the screaming behest of Japan, who are understandably pissed off since that rocket went right over them.

    • Yup, that 3 am came, and he thinks he can speechify them in to shame via TOTUS. Perhaps our dear leader can go talk to their dear leader and charm the nukes outta him.

  5. I think that BO is conceding China its Sphere of Interest this time round.

Why Obama made all those concessions to Turkey:

    http://www.meforum.org/2108/turkey-at-the-energy-crossroads

    • whoops-meant to add re China-that’s why he’s leaving things officially to the UN.

  6. From Ace of Spades:

After Obama acknowledges that the N. Koreans ignored UN Resolutions, he calls on the N. Koreans to abide by them. This is smart and tough diplomacy?

And our response is to “consult” with people who have done nothing of consequence on this issue and have shown they pretty much don’t care about it.

Compared to this idiot, I’m starting to miss the days of clear eyed realism and muscular military posture of Jimmy Carter.

    • I wonder if the prez bothered to consult with his Secretary of State?

      • You know BB, I often wonder where Hillary is in the picture –and not only litterally speaking.
Take a look at this picture ( will try to learn the TinyUrl-thing … later):
        daylife.com/photo/06r1a2D4qR0ey?q=Hillary+Rodham+Clinton

Why is Hillary there? What is she doing? (And why doesn’t B0 get his @ss out of that chair!)

  8. Anyone waching Cspan? EamonJavers and the host are guzzling cups of water between questions ’cause their mouths are so dry between the questions. It’s great.

  9. Good morning everyone! It’s so nice to see the overnight crowd back in action.

  10. New thread up
