effing @sshats
We all knew it was coming! Now gird your loins.
from below —
I have set my DVR to record this — $2.00 a share — how sad is that for the folks who don’t get “wind fall” bonuses, etc.
My 401k was changed last year forcing me to subscribe to my companies stock. I lowered my contribution to 6% to match what the company gives me.
How sad –
TaxVader Geithner is next, 2 Trillion yippeeeeee!
I really want to reach through the tv and strangle Pelosi. She is so full of it! Obie just took office and already he has saved us! Grrrrrrrrrrr…
Pelosi is on her way to Rome. Don’t bother her pretty little mind with your worries!
1100 pages? Was it really 1100 pages long? How could ANYONE possibly have read it so fast?
That clip takes me back to when I lived in Texas and the movie first came out. There was a huge marqueeat the theatre, bearing the words Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and underneath the words “now taking applications”.
katiebird —
NO ONE READ IT — last night Greta had an old copy she was reading parts of it asking Newt — WTF does this mean – it needs to be in layman terms. Then she had on Lindsay Graham who was completely disgusted and said here it is 10:00 PM and I don”t have a copy and they expect me to come vote tomorrow on this.
THIS IS BULLSHIT —
katiebird, that was the point. It was not made available until after midnight this morning. Not one of the people who voted on it have read it. So much for the unanimous (403 votes for, none against) resolution of hte House that all bills would be available online for citizens to read 48 hours before a vote.
this is how we got the Iraq War and the Patriot Act.
The Repubs tried to get the vote cancelled this morning because they are supposed to have 48 hours to read and it didn’t go online until after midnight. No go, obviously.
Do we know who the 7 democrats were who voted against it in the house? I am searching………..
Sen. Coburn is on CSPAN2 now making the case (quoting the historian Tyler) that all republics fail as soon as the public figures out that they can vote themselves the money from the treasury, and that this is the first step in the decline.
simofish — i posted the results at
http://poplicola.wordpress.com/2009/02/13/30-pieces-of-silver/
I wonder if the Republicans will be “sticking” up for us lowly americans with the next horse choker pill to come down the pike. You know the 2 Trillion for the banks?
Anyone have any idea or guesses?
OT — can anyone tell me how to embed youtube video in my blog post?
do you use wordpress. if so,
my head is hitting the floor and locked into place, SOD!
poplicola — thanks — I see my e-mail and phone call did not one bit of damn good — that snake of a woman Barbra Lee vote with Barry — big suprise she’s been on her knees since day one for the color of his skin and nothing else. If I didn’t have such a shady past and potty mouth I’d run against her.
simo, shady pasts are a pre-requisite now! everyone must have one!
potty mouths we can make excuses for. how many of them were caught on film, or audio?
We don’t need to worry ourselves, Dear Leader has spoken. It is what is best for us, we shouldn’t worry our pretty little heads with it. Why would we expect them to actually read it, they didn’t read the Patriot Act either.
Every thing that has been shoved down our throats, for “our own good”, in the past few years, has been a collossal failure and I have a feeling this one, will be crippling.
taggles —- way too many !!!!
here’s one —– first part is wedding reception for me and the mrs — last part is election night — I think this is under a minute
Chicken Llittle the Sky is Falling should be everyone’s first clue. We should never ever make changes to our way of life in a few short weeks because politicians are telling us we will have no life if we don’t.
Dems/Reps both use the fear stick to beat the masses into submission.
How appropriate: I received this 419 email, lol.
Office White House 1600 Pennsylvania
Ave NW Washington, DC 20500
Web: http://www.whitehouse.gov.
Dear Winner,
In Affiliation With the President Barrack Obama,World Banks, and United Nation Organization to recover the global economy, We are pleased to inform you of the
result of the annual draw of the White House Lottry held in USA Presidencies Villa. The online cyber annual draws were conducted from a list of 25,000,000 e-mail addresses of individuals and corporate institutions picked by an advanced automated random computer search from the Internet.
Thankfully somebody is finally doing something. We needed to get money circulating twelve months ago.
I agree with my Sen. Boxer; doing nothing would be an act of aggression on the American people. Did anybody see the line of people applying for 35 firefighter openings in FL? There must have been 5,000 people.
Ha! Simo! Love the end of your video!
I’d still vote for ya simo!!!! last scene sealed it!
The alternative to this bill was never “doing nothing.” The reason this bill was raced through behind closed doors was so it could be larded up and laced with poison pills without public scrutiny.
Taggles….it’s long overdue.
poison pill = allowing the insurance companies to declare someone a “hopeless diagnosis” to deny treatment.
Heh yellowdog
How’d that whole 700 billion that we spent on the banking industry because “doing nothing would be an act of aggression go”? I am so tired of the whole sorry lot of them they are one step short of the sorry ass people who brought us this whole mess. We’re paying them six figures plus benefits and they are too damn lazy to read the legislation that is passed. A pox on the House.
I am an equal opportunity basher and non support of either party right now.
I take what I want from them and leave the rest.
The politicians can screw off!
It’s official
The power-grubbing bastards can do whatever the fuck they want now.
yeah, I have thoughts of going up against her — when they talk about race I would say — move on — who cares what color you are — if you have to whine about your color don’t vote for me —
yellow dog —– I disagree — I think we should have done nothing OR — give every adult who’s paid taxes as an America Citizen for the last 3 years $100,000 K and watch the economy grow then
STOP feeding Pelosi’s mouse cheese to the tune of $30M
Yep Cwaltz — you’re right. Credit is still dried up.
Cat!!!! haven’t seen ya for a while. Missed ya sista! 🙂
Talk about a pet project. A tiny mouse with the longtime backing of a political giant may soon reap the benefits of the economic-stimulus package.
Lawmakers and administration officials divulged Wednesday that the $789 billion economic stimulus bill being finalized behind closed doors in Congress includes $30 million for wetlands restoration that the Obama administration intends to spend in the San Francisco Bay Area to protect, among other things, the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi represents the city of San Francisco and has previously championed preserving the mouse’s habitat in the Bay Area
I wonder how exactly that saltmarsh harvest mouse creates jobs? It must be magic like the unity unicorn.
Hi SOD!
Thought I’d find you here, saying WTF!
miss you too, owe you an email.
Did you hear the only good news? Simo is running for pres..
Save the people first, meeces second!
How many of the projects are good? Oh that’s right, nobody knows because people didn’t get to scrutinize the legislation. Gotta love our knew “transparency based” government.
they do sound like cute little critters. I haven’t googled them yet.
yellow
do you think all that silly pork and mouse money is going to help the 5,000 unemployed people in that line?
Be serious.
The stim bill is a disgrace and a slap in the face to Americans. Vile.
yellow dog, have you read the bill?
Did you all hear about the new provision to unemployment insurance? It will allow people who leave for reasons such as a family emergency(to take care of an ill family member) to collect unemployment. While I applaud the idea I find it kind of entertaining that they’d want to stress out a system already stressed out by a recession. I think there are already 4 states that the UI fund has been depleted on and we are only a year into the recession.
WE are critical thinkers…come back here for an educated discussion.
I remember reading too that we ACORN got their share. This way they’ll be able to pay their workers double to get Mickey “marsh” Mouse and Donald Duck to vote for Obama in 2012. I’m so darn relieved.
wHOO hoo! Simo for President! I’m in!
Here’s the conference report:
http://rules.house.gov/
Simo for President
Your campaign slogan can be “I won’t do any worse than the bozos you’ve elected for the last twelve years.”
cwaltz I still think ACORN is going to be doing the census. I don’t even think it’s a tinfoil hat idea. It’s just the way they do business – seems so obvious.
Bah it’s just awful.
so which brave dem voted present? anybody know?
BO – possibly the most expensive human to ever walk the earth.
cat — actually i was thinking of congress — but what the hell – I don’t need experience
run for congress first, and while there for the next two years you can run for president on the countries dime!
We’ll know if they tell us to count the dogs and cats in our household as family members eh?
I did see some good provisions in the bill but I see alot of stuff that isn’t anything to do with stimulating the economy. Meanwhile that is the ridiculous argument they used to take out the friggin’ family planning provision that would have allowed low income women to obtain birth control so they don’t end up stuck relying on social services for 18 years. Urgh. Does anyone know if they put it back in since none of the GOP voted for the darn bill anyway? Or are women and their reproductive health officially below marsh mice on the hierarchy of importance for the Democrats?
yellow dog must be our assigned tr0 ll for the evening….
hello YD, now f u c k off
The Senate is voting now.
Heh perries I’d say BO- but he’s in the WH…..so it can’t be him.
Yes something needed to be done, problem is, this bill isn’t the right thing. It does not address the housing problem on the homeowner/borrower level. That needs to be addressed. Give people a realistic option to stay in their homes. Spread the payments out longer, lower them temporarily for maybe 5 years or until we can get the economy moving again. For those homeowners that have sale contracts on their homes, make the bank respond to short sale requests within 15 days instead of the 3 months it is taking. That is just my suggestion as a good place to start.
Whatever you do, Congress – DO NOT READ the Stimulus Bill. Never mind you say you didn’t read the Patriot Act. No, please DO NOT do your jobs. That would prove that you are useful at doing something. We can have none of that in this country.
Senate is voting right now, they’re on the M’s
So yellow dog…I’ll rephrase my question. How does it feel to be the sucker who paid for Merrill Lynch’s bonuses, Bank of America’s sponsorship of the Super Bowl and Citibank’s name on a stadium because “doing nothing would almost appear to be an act of agression”?
You feel free to pat the putzes on the back. I’ll pass.
ok — you guys are cracking me up !!!!
we’ll be the Puma Party — I will need some help — need a staff to start pulling together speaking engagements – need a speech writer that won’t grope cut outs put the real thing – I will need a clown !!! a SOD, a radio personality – taggles – you up for it? A CAT — most definitely need Afrocity and AngieNC –
“Whether or not I’ve read the bill is just moving the goal posts. ”
yellowdog — I suggest you start thinking now about how to blame Bush for tricking the Dems into voting for this. They’re going to need all the excuses they can muster.
simo you have my support.
and the support of many others here, it seems.
oooh ~ as IF being called a dyke is an insult!!
Since people are being laid off why not cut congress & the senate by 1/2
The mouse stuff doesn’t belong in a stimulus bill. That other stuff doesn’t either. That’s the point. That stuff belongs in a spending bill which goes through committee. This is a porkfest disguised as something else.
or….. why not all of congress and all of the senate forgoing any salary / income this year.
If I wanted to insult someone I’d call them an obot.
Sigh, he/she didn’t even answer my question.
Back on topic, and inspired by cwaltz’ post: one of the physicians in the Senate likened it to treating the symptoms and ignoring the cause of the disease.
Apparently creating 600,000 new government bureaucrats (equivalent of the entire US Post Office) is real, productive jobs?
Perhaps simo can get a staff together that understands the nuances of stuff like taxes.
“Sigh, he/she didn’t even answer my question.”
this required critical thinking and typing with both hands.
nagahappen.
how does Yellow Dog know who’s a dyke and who’s not? Hell, I don’t even know who’s a dyke here. I have been called dyke, bull dyke, bull dagger, and whole lot worse — I am immune to it – in fact I just chuckle — if that’s the best you can do — really !!!!
What the hell is Lieberman doing voting Yes on the stimulus ???
it took years of practice to become a “dyke”
I am most certainly proud of it!!
I think that people need to start booing the congress critters at every appearance.
Got to go pick up the tot. Have a good evening everyone, despite it all. Have a good evening because living well is the best revenge.
Go indigogrrl – you tell ’em!
Is anyone watching cspan? it’s like a party down there — patting each other on the back, kissing each other — vote right now is 50 yes – 35 no
taxes?! get Turbotax and you don’t have to pay 🙂
Who cares who sleeps with who anyway(unless of course yellow dog is cruising for a date)? Evidently postpartisan means continuing with tradition with being preoccupied with folks bedmates?
Frankly as far as insults go I find it pretty lame. Now if you accused me of sleeping with an obot THEN I’d be insulted. 😉
I watched mcCain speak but left when durbin came on….
I’m so disgusted with the whole lot of them.
I say we put all of congress in a big room for about 1 week no food no water and no toilet….
then at the end of a week we dangle a briefcase full of dirty pack money from the ceiling and tell them tthe last person standing gets to keep it!
So there is no confusuon bout we mean by last congressperson or senator standing w at the right minute dump 538 assorted knives uzis swords ect into the areana….
Oh I forgot we put the thing on Pay Per View and take bets on who wins who goes down next and such…the money raised from this is used to pay down the debt!
ummm – fuzzy my $’s on mccain then
poplicola
Call me silly but if I was clearing over 100,000 in speaking engagements and perks from my “consulting”(cuz it would have been illegal if it was called lobbying) I’d go ahead and spring for the accountant. I’d live a little and give some poor mathophile a job.
lets see 2.5 billion TVs in the world $ 49.95 per hour PPV fee- wagering in china india and japan $ 2.5 trillion aone!
If we raised enough we could possibilly get healthcare? and be free of 538 nasty little men and women!
you’d think…
ahem cwaltz
actually I’m a tax professional and I resent being called a “mathophile”
LOL
I’d much rather be called a dyke.
It’s a flawed bill and will be much less effective than Clinton’s 1993 budget that raised taxes on the top 1% and helped the rest of us, but I’m still glad it passed rather than failed.
ok 537 nasty men and women one is gonna live!
catarina ~ we have a union…you have to earn that title!
hey catrina fuzzy waves!
It is beyond flawed, it is obscene.
awwww cat I’m sorry.
At least I’d spring for your services if I were making the bucks like Geither and Daschle surely that counts for sumpin’.
Yellow Dog…So There!
check y’all later ~ got stuff to do!
cwaltz for the record i did not help timmy with his tax return!
indigogrrl -there should be a union!
fuzzy,
my oldest likes your plan. I think with your think outside of the box skills you should perhaps be simos VP or at the very least in the cabinet.
{{[fuzzy}}}
later all, must unplug or head will explode.
un-fucking-believable.
I think with your think outside of the box skills you should perhaps be simos VP or at the very least in the cabinet.
fuzzy, head of the ministry of creative problem-solving..
(((cat))))
Don’t let it get to you too much.
I support anything that helps save wetlands, even if Nancy Pelosi is for it. Massachusetts could use some money for wetlands too.
I missed Catarina? Drat!
bb
It doesn’t belong in a stimulus bill. Supposedly the reason they removed the family planning provision was because THAT didn’t belong in a stimulus bill. The hypocrisy of Pelosi for that little inclusion is astounding.
yes,,,,, we’ll — maybe fuzzy can be co-president – we’ll try something different for a “change” we’ll switch weekends
bostonboomer — right now, I want my state tax refund and I want the State of CA to move from 48th for k-12 education up to the top 5 and I want to close the borders — we’ve also stopped sending welfare checks and cutting programs for the elderly — until those things are done – the mouse is on it’s own —
Colorado is doing something new with their schooling. It actually sounds pretty cool.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20090210/ts_csm/agradeless_1
I won’t argue with you guys that Nancy’s pet project shouldn’t be in the stimulus bill. But if they are going to work on the wetlands that will actually create jobs unlike tax cuts for rich people.
simofish — may i suggest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xd_zkMEgkI
boomer —
the only thing is that we have to see if there is any real intent behind those provisions.
Few short weeks? Dear Leader said there were weeks & weeks of discussions & it was “paralyzing” D.C. He said it, so it is true. Obama rulz.
Yellowdog is in the spam filter singing “My Sirota”
It’s a catchy little tune:
SweetSue, I don’t understand the its “flawed bill but it is better than nothing meme. I am NOT glad a bill with a price tag of almost 800 billion passed without any one of the people voting for it knowing what was in it. I was NOT glad when the Patriot Act was passed the same way & I’m not a hypocrite to be “glad” that the same fearmongering & gestapo tactics were used for this bill. Second, it is going to do VERY VERY little for the average person — you know, the ones actually paying for the damned thing. I’m none to happy about that either.
Simofish — I’m in!
Hi Angie!
Hey…do you by chance have a favorite recipe for Shrimp and grits? I believe that’s a Nawlins’ thing and my hubby’s hungry for it tonight.
Bicameral collaboration is so refreshing!
I credit my ability to think outside the box to having held a full time job most of my life!
Pampers should try it!
SOD — you eat shrimp? I thought you were vegan. I’ll get my cookbook & be back in a second.
LMAO! My Sirota!!!
bb — I think we need to define rich —- my sister thinks I am rich because I don’t have to worry about covering my bills — I think someone is rich if they have enough money not to work — someone making $100K in my hometown of Iowa is wealthy !!!! Someone making $100K where I live in Oakland, CA is NOT.
My neighbor wants everyone making over $500K pay more taxes. What if a neighbor of mine making that much is also paying for 3 kids and elderly parents? Putting money away for college and their own retirement. Then they are not wealthy.
If someone makes money — I say good for them. I am jealous !! But, why should I say how they spend it or that they should pay more. People who make less than $50K don’t pay a lot of taxes — it’s just a fact. I am not asking them to pay more. I think our GOV’T should stop wasting — that’s the problem here —
http://money.cnn.com/2008/10/24/magazines/fortune/tully_henrys.fortune/index.htm
the era of bi-obamapartisan has died a quick and very necessary death!
Angie – it’s for my hubby
Angie, I stole this: “NOT glad a bill with a price tag of almost 800 billion passed without any one of the people voting for it knowing what was in it.” for my facebook status. I’ve been trying to verbalize my revulsion and what you said was perfect.
angieNC — i knew we could count on you !!!!
John Sirota actually dained to come among us little poeple and spread the love VD?
on valentines day sorry!
simofish,
When I say rich, I’m talking about rich–top 1%, which isn’t $100K per year. As for how much people pay in taxes if they make less than $50K, I don’t know about the high end of that scale, but I am a grad student and if I make $18K a year, $25K or even one year I earned only $9K. I always had to pay around 30% of my income in taxes. That’s a lot when you are barely getting by.
I’m not interested in fighting with anyone though, and so if I find that my liberal ideas are offending people, I’ll check out.
btw — shrimp & grits is more of a coastal “southern” thing, not specifically a New Orleans thing — the New Orleans thing that you may be thinking of is Veal Grillades & Grits (to die for!). I’ve never had shrimp grits without some kind of pork — bacon or sausage. Here is my favorite shrimp & grits recipe:
1 pound large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined*
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups hot stock (shrimp, chicken, or vegetable)
1/4 cup butter
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup stone-ground grits** (you can use “quick-cook grits” but NOT instant grits)
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Salt and black pepper to taste
6 bacon slices
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons finely chopped green or red bell pepper
Quick “shrimp stock” — place the shells of the shrimp in a saucepan and cover with water. Simmer over low heat approximately 7 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat and strain the broth, discarding shells. Add shrimp broth to hot stock.
** If using quick-cooking grits (not instant), reduce cream to 1/2 cup and reduce stock to 1 cup.
In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine cream, water, and hot stock; bring to a gentle boil. Add butter, salt, and pepper. Slowly add grits, stirring constantly (so that the grits do not settle to the bottom and scorch), until all are added reduce heat to medium-low. Cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally (be carefully not to scorch mixture), or until the grits are tender. Grits should have absorbed all of the liquid and become soft and should have the same consistency as oatmeal (moist, not dry). If the grits become too thick, add warm stock or water to thin. Remove from heat.
Sprinkle shrimp with lemon juice, salt, and pepper; set aside. In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, cook bacon until brown but not crisp. Remove from heat and pat dry with paper towels; set aside. Coarsely chop bacon when cool. Reserve 4 tablespoons bacon great in the frying pan. Add onion, garlic, and green or red bell pepper; sauté 10 minutes or until the onion is transparent. Add shrimp mixture and bacon; sauté 5 to 7 minutes or until shrimp are opaque in center (cut to test). Remove from heat. To serve, spoon hot grits onto individual serving plates and top with shrimp mixture.
Makes 4 servings.
Katiebird — you are welcome to have it!
SOD — so hubby eats shrimp/meat but you are a vegan? In my parents house if my mom was a vegan, my dad would be a vegan too! (i.e., the man can’t boil water) LOL
Thanks angie….he still likes seafood now and then (he just never embraced tofu, tempeh and seitan the way my daughter and i did). It is a Valentines weekend — THANKS!
Hey fuzzy
Happy Herpes! (heehee)
bostonboomer, I’ve always paid about 30% in taxes & payroll deductions too — whether I’ve made $8,000 a year or more. It hurt a lot more when it was $8,000 a year. One of the reasons I figured I could afford to retire is that my take-home will be about the same as when I was actually working full time. (we’ll see how that actually works out….)
He doesn’t eat meat. We watched that video Earthlings together (with Joquin Phoenix) and he hasn’t touched meat since. He’s not so turned off by shrimp, lobster or scallops though.
bb
You are so not offensive. You know we love ya.
SOD — I guess you could sautee the shrimp in butter instead of the bacon grease & just skip the bacon altogether — but I’ve never had it that way — I”m sure it isn’t as good without the bacon ’cause bacon makes everything better.
btw — the quick shrimp stock is good if you are using veggie or chicken stock — it really adds flavor — if you happen to already have some shrimp stock, you don’t need to worry about it, but if you don’t make sure to use it.
Also, I typed “salt & pepper to taste” twice. Sorry.
I use a vegan supplement called “liquid smoke” and veggie bacon.
Thanks so much!
boston – I don’t want to fight — I am offering another view.
Just think if everyone banded together and went after the politicians over how they spend OUR money. We’d be able to lower taxes. It seems the answer to everything is raise taxes.
We need Kevin Klein and his accountant friend form “Dave” to go into Congress and the Senate with a line item veto. Lets get back to the basics.
We have an $800 B stimulus package — $700 B TARP package with another on it’s way and THE SHEEPLE OF AMERICA ARE DOING NOTHING
I always read, rarely comment, but Sen. Tom Coburn, MD? He’s insane. If being a PUMA is being a democrat in exile, why, oh, why, would we listen to a crazy, obstructionist right-wing nut, one of the nuttiest?
I heard him for a bit on CSpan today; he’s still crazy.
I hope this post is being sarcastic. I am not celebrating shit.
I am glad that no republican voted for it.
SOD — LOL! “liquid smoke” — I should have known you had a fix for it! I’m sure you know that when I said “sautee the shrimp” I did mean the peppers & onion too, right? LOL
Tom Coburn is a nutball! I agree!
afrocity — “Best Little Whorehouse” should give you a clue as to whether the post is sarcastic or not! 🙂
ang – yep!
Hell Afrocity, what the hell do you think? of course it’s sarcastic. watch the video. 🙂
Do I have to prove my puma creds to you?
ha!
I actually have never seen that movie. But Dolly Parton did mention something recently about there being a lot of boobs in the White House.
Barack has achieved a VICTORY today according to all the news geniuses.
I wish to celebrate in my own little way.
Which is most of the time using sarcasm.
Taggles,
Ummm I dunno. I am starting to wonder about you guys lately 😀
I think a lot of people misunderstand about “the rich.” I know my aunt was all for Bush b/c he wanted to get rid of estate taxes. She thought if you had over $600,000 in your estate, which one could have had then if you owned a home outright and had a few investments, you’d have to pay taxes. So even though economists said only the top 2% of people in the nation would benefit from having no estate taxes, she did not understand that this did not apply to her. When the media are talking policy and rich people, they mean people with so much freaking money no ordinary human being has a clue. Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, etc. We could probably name those top 2% by name. And I have no problem taxing them to the hilt.
When I lived in NZ we paid 33% of our income in taxes, flat. We had no deduction. It was easy to file taxes. We got free health care and many services and lived in a society where the differential between the rich and the poor was not the size of a black hole. I would gladly pay 1/3 of what I earn to know that every person in America would be treated like a human being.
I think this is going to kill OBAMA — he’s not CHANGE — and the Republicans are going to pounce on that
Translation: Yes, the president will continue to do obligatory outreach to the GOP, but he’s not going to be burned again by an out-of-power and toothless minority for the sake of appearances
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/02/13/politics/politico/main4800035.shtml
SOD — I should have just sent you the recipe via email so you could print it out. D’oh.
And you have mail! 🙂
bb — I’m not upset about specific things in the bill per se (like the wetlands thing). I’m upset about the WAY this bill was passed. The last time we had a bill passed so quickly, without hearings, etc. was the Patriot Act — this is NOT the way I want this country to run.
simo, we aren’t going to get out post partisan fix anymore?
WTH, what happened to the days or Raygun and transformation, being a new kind of politics and fooling and fleecing the american people with the appearance of having their best interests at heart.
He will just now flat out fool and fleece like the rest of the corruptos. Appearances were so important ya know.
WTH, tell me NO!
chimera: I agree. My relatives in Norway pay about the same taxes we do, have the best social safety net in the world. It’s about taxing the billionaires and not letting the natural resources be stolen from the people. They think people should enjoy life and not be worked to death or threatened by poverty and sickness.
We should try it sometime.
chimera — I like the way NZ system sounds. Especially since I’m paying over 30% now & I am NOT in the top 2%.
Lets see — a Dem majority in the House & Senate & somehow this bill was a “victory” for Obama? Obots are so even dumber than they look.
sorta OT
but
do all you grit-eaters know about John?
http://www.hoppinjohns.com/cgi-bin/screenbld.asp?Request=HoppinJohnHome&CN=20090213192135098216201222
If Obama would have came into office — pulled in the GOP and DEM leadership and said – bring me 5 people from each side to work with you on a stimulus package — NO PORK / SPECIAL PROJECTS — prioritize our nations needs — keep this open door – every 3rd day get buy in from your teams — we MUST make this work for the American people. Bring this back to me in 2 weeks time to review and line item veto. I want full participation from both sides.
Think how powerful he would have been. Instead of saying — I won, we won.
Wonder if my idea would have worked.
type victory stimulus in google news and see what you get angie. it is all so stiiiimmmmuuullllaaatttiiinnng.
Afrocity — tell hubby I may be coming back to Chicago soon — things are heating up back there on 2 of my accts — can’t wait to see you guys.
opps I have to run to the store.
Sherrod Brown is not in town and we have to wait until 10:30 for the Senate bill to be passed. They only have 59 votes right now. Sherrod is at his mothers funeral and the President has sent a plane to get him back to Washington. I don’t think Kennedy voted today.
The white house is sending a plane to Ohio to pick up Senator Brown who is making funeral arrangements for his mom — they are flying him back (that’s an expensive trip) so he can vote on the bill.

Lipinski of IL votes present so he doesn’t “embarrass”
President Obama.
Is that one of the corporate jets that the Senators excoriated the CEOs for flying just this week?
Voting Present is the new way to show your conviction.
Obama paved the way!
yooooooooha!
“Lipinski of IL votes present so he doesn’t “embarrass”
President Obama.”
Coward.
head for the hills!

Geeze can Obama at least seem sincere when he is talking about that poor woman who died in the plane crash (her husband died in 9/11). He can’t remember her name and is looking on paper. Meanwhile a blind man-Gov. Patterson did not have to look at anything.
Well all ,must be right with the world since “The Bill” is passed giving peasants a mere $13.00 a week extra. So Nancy is on her way to Italy (please forget the way back) and Obie and the girls are winging to Chi-Town.
I can sleep at night now.
Simofish great, we can have dinner again.
What yall aren’t part of the Americans Senator Schumer sez doesn’t care about those porky little amendments? I mean how much of those could there be in over 1100 pages of bill? I sure read my copy over night! (snark) what’s wrong with all this whining? yall must hate obama cause he’s a black man! that’s all i gotta say! yall must hate the real change all the tax cuts and bail out dollars are going to make in the lives of all those poor wall street brokers and bankers that may have to fire their household help! That’s creating unemployment! They may not be able to buy those huge cars and houses! Their kids may have to go to public school! How unAmerican are you pumas, anyway?
😉
Angie,
I’m upset about everything about the bill. I was just trying to make the point that rescuing wetlands is not a bad or silly thing. I didn’t want them to pass the first bailout bill. This one isn’t going to do what it’s supposed to do, so what’s the point. I’m disgusted with the entire mess.
afrocity, he should have it printed on his bracelet.
BTW, I could really use an extra $13.00 a week. Some weeks that could make a difference as to whether I can buy some vegetables and fruit and a loaf of bread. But I doubt if I’ll get it, because I’m too low income.
i still think they should just have taken that money and divided it by the number of families in the country and given it to us on a debit card …
I wont get money back under the stimulus.
i’m with you, dakini
to hell with the mice!
If this bill had not passed, the terrorists would have won.
dakinikat, that works out to about $10,000 per household. If we just gave that money back to the people they’d just misspend, invest, or save it.
Glenn Greenwald has a must read piece up on Salon today called “Obama and Liberals: A Counterproductive Relationship”. Basically, he calls out all the fauxgressives who are defining “liberal” as whatever Obama decides to do. He says that the fauxgressive blogs were so anxious to get the increased traffic from Obama worshippers that now those same blogs are afraid to criticize Obama for fear of losing readership. Sadly, many of the comments support the idea that the Obots are clueless, and that, for them, it really was all about personality rather than policy. What a mess.
Chuck Todd of MSNBO is complaining about the White House rules for the press.

Boo hoo hoo.
but President Obama says there’s no earmarks and no Pork! Doncha believe our hopey changie president?
give me a link graylady, pretty please!
taggles, I don’t know how to do links on WordPress. Just use the day pass on Salon and look for Glenn Greenwald. It’s worth it.
how many la folks commute to Los Vegas for their livlihoods? I mean if we’re going to put in a high speed rail, why not someplace a little more useful. Whoa, wait, could it be that the Senate Majority leader is beholden to gambling interests in Los Vegas?

BB: Also, (as of last night) in 2010 that will go down to $8/week. It’s a reduction on payroll taxes so I don’t know (who does?) is reduction in income and how much reduction in social security taxes.
But my point is, that $13/week is not going to be a stimulus per se. Can you see this increasing demand for much of anything? As in your case you’ll buy veggies, fruit and bread. No one’s going out to buy a dining room set or couch so no increase in production in furniture plants. I think you get the drift of what I’m saying.
Here it is Taggles.

bb — LOL!
Fredster,
I get your drift, but right now I’m just worried about surviving. Do you get my drift?
Thanks, bb and angie.
I read somewhere that this bill was going to end up being Obama’s Bridge to Nowhere. That sounds pretty accurate.
Factoid for myiq: Until this year, my son went to school with Sharona’s daughter. I loved Sharona: she was the only parent in the class who didn’t have a gigantic stick up her a**. ‘Ow ‘orrible for you to lump her song in with that a*shat Sirota!
Yes BB I get your drift and I’m sure all paycheck earners are happy there’s something in there, but I just don’t see how much it’s going to do to turn around the economy.
I’m really glad the Obamas get to go away every weekend. This weekend they’re in Chicago.
Must be nice.
I don’t either Fredster, and I don’t think any of the tax cuts in the bill are going to do anything for the economy. I think we are headed for a new Dark Age. I’m kind of depressed about it, sorry to be a downer.
Fredster,
I get your drift, but right now I’m just worried about surviving. Do you get my drift?
And I’m sure you meant that in a kind a loving way. 😉
Catarina,
I wonder when they’ll be taking their next trip to Hawaii? Easter maybe?
Angie,
That recipe sounds good. I copied it. What about cheese grits? I hear that’s good. I have a feeling grits might be a good staple for depression style meals.
bb: yup, italians have used it for years angie … it’s called polenta, and we grew up hearing it called mush
i actually had it for dinner tonight, i mix fresh basil and garlic in it when i cook it, then fry it slightly in olive oil and top it with a red sauce and parmesan cheese.
Everyone get your notebooks (the paper kind) and pens ready and jot down these:

I’m off to eat pizza that I got with a coupon. Do they still make those Chef Boyardee pizza “kits” ? Everything was in a box and you mixed up the dough and put the sauce on it. Man, that was the OLD days!
grayslady — thanks for the heads up re: Greenwald on salon — you were right — can’t miss. But the comments! {rolls eyes} I didn’t even make it past 5 when I read this one & had to stop:
If the effectiveness of the remedies is in large part psychological.
The keys to the economy being confidence. Then belief in Obama as a person is more important than a belief in his policies, whatever they may be.
Yes, some loon actually wrote that.
I remember those, Fredster! My mom would actually feed our whole family with one of those. Needless to say, I was a very skinny kid.
Maybe you all have seen this already- I thought it was telling. I am quoting someone on bitterpoliticz quoting redstate, a right wing blog. I believe this was also on hillbuzz:
While visiting Caterpillar headquarters in Peoria, IL, yesterday, President Obama instructed employees of the construction company to tell their representative, Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL), to support his $800 billion spending package.
On the floor of the House this morning, Schock announced that not one single employee came up to him after Obama’s speech — and that, contrary to the president’s claims, every one of the 1,400 telephone calls to Schock’s office from Caterpillar workers has been in opposition to the “stimulus” bill.
angie, I couldn’t read all the comments either. Too much of exactly what Greenwald was talking about in his post: defend Obama’s actions at all costs. The most interesting comments were Greenwald’s responses to some of the commenters. That’s where he admits that some so-called progressives either refused to meet with him or would only meet with him in secret. He declined to name names, but I think we can imagine who they are.
bb — cheese grits is just grits with cheese & butter added. Make the grits the usual way (boil & stir for 20 minutes — add salt to taste). Once done, while grits are piping hot, add pepper to taste & butter and whisk to combine. Once the butter is melted, gradually whisk in the cheese a little at a time. You can use any cheese you want — I like sharp cheddar personally.
If you REALLY want to try something outstanding, try this Paula Deen “Baked Garlic Cheese Grits” recipe — you will die!!
6 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups regular grits
16 ounces Cheddar, cubed
1/2 cup milk
4 large eggs, beaten
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
8 ounces grated sharp white Cheddar
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 4-quart casserole dish.
Bring the broth, salt, pepper, and garlic powder to a boil in a 2-quart saucepan. Stir in the grits and whisk until completely combined. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the grits are thick, about 8 to 10 minutes. Add the cubed Cheddar and milk and stir. Gradually stir in the eggs and butter, stirring until all are combined. Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish. Sprinkle with the white Cheddar and bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until set.
Help! I’m in moderation.
new post up.
Yup, read that Caterpillar bit on another blog last last night, lililam. Obama obviously feels free to lie at will, because his lies never, but never show up in the MSM. It’s only us bitter deadenders who ferret them out and pay attention.
Angie,
Thanks! Sounds great. I’m much more of a cheese person than a meat person.
bb — I’m a meat eater but I would give it all up before I gave up cheese!
And yes, cheese grits rock!
Angie’s recipe has made me so hungry I can barely see straight.
Time to go home, make dinner, and curl up for a rainy-night movie.
Thank-you all for the humor here. I’m so incredulous this was passed without members of Congress (much less citizens) even reading it, or evaluating the types of spending.
Guess it will look extra-presidential when it gets signed on Presidents day.
As each day passes, B0 seems more and more a liar. Transparency, working across the aisle, eliminating pork–what a joke.
I know they won’t really care, but I left messages or emails for all of the Dem elected representatives from my State, telling them what I think of them and that no way in h@ll will any of them ever get a vote from me or my family – perhaps we should drown them in letters and emails to that affect – it might be an annoyance in their pathetic lives –
I believe ACORN got $5million or was it billion – I’m so mad I can’t even think straight.
