“That’s all I’ve heard so far on CNN: That Sen. George Voinivich, a respected senior Republican leader, bowed out of the bi-partisan committee, saying, “I can’t do this anymore.” Yikes.”

    http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2009/02/06/voinovich-drops-bi-partisan-effort-stimulus-bill-now-in-jeopardy/

This things needs to go down…there is no quick fix but the fix is in for Wall Street and the banks in this bill. even the CBO says it’s bad.

  3. Thanks, dk. Glad it came in handy. I’m so glad we can use your brain, not that I pretend to understand an eensy bit of this — It seems like economists are all contradicting their former selves. I just don’t know what to think … so we might as well um, fiddle? er laugh.

  4. SHV – ruh roh. I thought [they — fill in the blank — Dems, DNC, Mr. I Won] kept saying they could do it all by themselves.

  5. Damn, the Republicans have just given it up. I mean, they’ve put on a good show of bipartisan effort but they’ve given up the goat. Either it’s really that bad or they’re setting this guy up for a fall.

  6. Regency, DK — Is either of you going to be around a bit? I need to leave and wanted to see if you’d mind tending the store?

  7. Would “stimulus aid” work to grease the wheels of government?

  8. I’ll be here

  9. Susan Collins just came out a meeting with Reid. She is pissed. Arlen Specter was *silent*.

Epic Fail, Dems. Pass it yourself. You have a majority.

  10. Would “stimulus aid” work to grease the wheels of government?

    And free up frozen assets

  11. Thanks, myiq!

    Bi-partisanship is dead.

  12. “And free up frozen assets”

    I think it’ll work!

    They don’t have the votes.

  14. SHV: What does it need to pass by? Are the dems not all onboard?

mmm, guess who’s considering running for New Mexico governor?

Val Kilmer. Batman may be replacing Judas. I guess that’s fair.

  15. DINO DiFi:

“What in my view a stimulus is, is not candidly speaking a tax package,” she said. “I do not believe in this economy tax cuts are stimulative… I worry about this economy. The point of this package is to get jobs out to the people. So I reserve the right at the end of the day to vote against a package that does not put those jobs out there.”

    She’s my other Senator

  16. DF is boxing Obama’s ears.

  17. Michael Steele has decided to fire ask for the resignation of all 100 staffers at the RNC.

“It’s time for something completely different, and we’re gonna bring it to them,” he said in his acceptance speech. “Get ready, baby. It’s time to turn it on.”

So, that his version of “I’m fired up?”

  18. In a fight I’ll bet on Steele

  19. Yeah — Go DiFi — I used to think she was so conservative when I lived there. Her stamina and strong stands have been impressive lately.

  20. some days you just feel like this:

    Today is one!

  21. And I used to Love Nancy P. — used to.

    Regency, wow, that’s shocking.

Okay, I’m going to stop stalling and go work out.

  22. Bale under the bus.

  23. I just spent half an hour playing racquetball. I’m not working out anymore. I refuse.

  24. River:

I hope you don’t mind that I added a Widget for your show: Conflucians Say, on my blog.

  25. Michael Steele

    A new broom sweeps clean.

60 votes are needed for “cloture” in order to stop the debate. The Jr. Sen MN is still open so the max Dem # is 56, they are counting on the two “I”s Sanders and Lieberman…Kennedy may be too ill to come and vote…so by my count they need 55 Dems + 2 “I”s and 3 Repubs.

  27. Actually, I’m not surprised by what Steele did. I expected the GOP to spend the next couple of years rebuilding, and the first step is cut out the rot and decay.

I expect them to gain seats in Congress in 2010 (historically it’s almost a certainty) and mount a serious challenge to the WH in 2012.

  28. Regency, on February 6th, 2009 at 4:41 pm

Why is he firing 100 staffers

  29. Does anyone know if the Blogtalk feeds will update themselves or do I have to manually update them weekly?

  30. I can’t help but be pessimistic. So who here thinks that in Obama’s townhalls he will have his supports asking questions he already knows the answers to? Since Axelrod is only good at making people believe in his illusions, I think they are setting this up to be his comeback. To have his supporters feel the magic again. Maybe they didn’t get many participants at their Obama change parties.

  31. I have to give Obama credit for his nodrama administration. Crooks, Liars and Gamblers: Chicago Way meet DC Politicians soap opera is something that I would have never imagined. Now in today’s episode:

Democrats at a swank Williamsburg, Va., golf resort

    Pelosi dismisses bipartisanship calls

In a statement sure to rile Republicans, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Friday dismissed calls for bipartisanship as “process” arguments extraneous to passing a stimulus bill — and warned Senate Democrats against slashing proposed increases to education spending.
    ———
“We must have a bill [quickly],” she said, in a clear message to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who has spent the past two days wrangling with moderates who want to cut proposed education funding for the states by as much as $50 billion.

“These cuts are very damaging — [the House bill] was put together very carefully. … The funding goes directly to school districts, they are stimulative because they maintain jobs instead of cutting jobs.”
    ——–

The new Senate cuts, if passed, “will do violence to the future,” said Pelosi, who is also pressing a reluctant Obama to repeal Bush administration tax cuts for the wealthy before they expire at the end of 2010.

Earlier, speaking behind closed doors, Pelosi exhorted her House colleagues to “sell, sell, sell” the stimulus package in their districts — cautioning that the next 72 hours will be critical to turn the tide of public opinion for or against the package.

She called Obama’s counterattack on GOP stimulus foes last night a “fresh approach.”

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0209/18514.html

Stay tuned for the next episode:
Will Nancy Pelosi managed to whip Obama in to shape and stop his bi-partisan bull?
Will super Nancy stop the increase of more tax cuts in the stimulus bill?
    Will the stimulus bill pass?

It’s all about campaigning for this guy. He is a decent campaigner and it is looking like he is a lousy President, so he has to get back out and campaign. He won’t actually ever do anything, he will just talk and talk and talk and………

  34. When you have never held a job or worked for anything or anyone in your entire life but yourself, you cannot be expected to be an effective President of the United States, just look back at the last 8 years.

Hmmm, I think I saw that somewhere in the stimulus package.

  38. ainnj, no ice to Eskimos. Palin would get it.

  39. OT USA Today’s Matt Kelley reports. “Solis and her husband, Sam Sayyad, were unaware of liens against his auto repair shop until USA TODAY asked about them Tuesday, said White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said Thursday.

That has to be total BS. I live in CA and when you have a tax lien against you, you get notices all of the time! Unless this guy is a total moron, he knew there were liens against him. I don’t know if she should be held accountable because I don’t know how much she knows about his business. But to come out with this BS excuse is just ridiculous.

  40. Has he community organized the senate yet? Have they rent a protesters arrived from ACORN yet?

Oh of course it’s BS. Not only did t hey get notices they were getting them for like 16 YEARS!!! She claimed that business as part of HER assets. She is accountable. Just the fact that it took USA Today to find out before she did anything proves she is not smart enough for the job. Reminds me of obama.

  42. Help, I’m in the spam can.

I believe Steele recognizes that change is necessary. The newly formed New Republicans group at my daughter’s college has a far different picture of what it means to be a Republican and these students believe Steele may be the leader they need. They want to go back to the Republican party of a time when “Republican” was not a swear word. These kids recognize womens equality and rights, find birth control pragmatic, and believe in human rights, etc.

Under Steele’s leadership, who knows what the republican party will look like.

I wonder if there will be a warm up act for his roadshow next week. Perhaps will i am and oprah could prepare a moving tribute to him for all he will never have the cajones to do!

  44. ainnj: maybe martha stewart can make some of her famous cupcakes !!!!

  45. Ace of Spades is reporting that moderate Republicans have cut a deal.

I thought “moderate Republican” was like “pacificist jihadi?”

  46. looking for integrity, on February 6th, 2009 at 5:56 pm Said:

Although not young like your daughter, I am one of those new republicans. That is why I liked Palin. She has her own religious views but doesn’t think government belongs in that arena. We are more of a ”get out of my private life and just take care of the business you are supposed to” group. And that is a reason I could have voted for Hilary. Her economic plan was sound and I believe she will be good in foreign affairs, even if I don’t always agree with her. She is a pragmatist and also knows how to compromise to get things done, whereas Obama is an egomaniac who just wants things his way.

  47. moderate republicans are the ones that accept that the world is not flat and isn’t the center of the universe, other than that, there’s no difference

  48. ABG – I am at the point where I will vote for pretty much any woman over any man.

  49. I found this over at NoQuarter. I thought you all would get a kick out of it…..

    Obama:

“I found this national debt, doubled, wrapped in a big bow waiting for me as I stepped into the Oval Office.”

    Larry Johnson’s response:

“You found the doubled national debt “gift wrapped?” Jesus Christ. Someone tell this clown that he was a voting member of the Senate for four of the last eight years. He helped package and wrap the fucker!

He was part of the problem. Show me one program he attempted to cut or curb during his time on the Hill. But he was not alone. He was just one of 100. Nevertheless, he had a front row seat for watching a Government policy based n tax cuts and deficit spending. Where did tax cuts and deficit spending get us? It sure as hell did not produce a swell of jobs or a flood of dollars into the Treasury.

And what do Barack and company want to do in the face of a massive deficit? DOUBLE THE F@#$! DOWN AND BALLOON THE BUDGET.”

Now I do not agree with everything Larry Johnson writes…But I agree with him on his last rant! Obama found this gift wrapped huh?

  50. the world is not flat

    Since when?

have they started the chiseling of mt. rushmore yet?

  54. ABG: what good does that kind of speculation do any one?

it just assumes two things I think are highly unlikely, first that Palin will end up running against obama
and that Obama actually performs well.

i’m not willing to speculate on something that has such low odds… it’s a nonsense mind fart

  55. Sorry, I didn’t realize it was him!

  56. frankly and right now, I’m just trying to figure out how this stimulus package is going to come out

  57. THOU SHALL NOT FEED THE TROLLS

  58. my bad myiq2xu …

  59. Am I missing a post or something? Who is ABG?

  60. I’m just trying to figure out how this stimulus package is going to come out

Somebody will be sleeping in a wet spot.

  62. what about the blue dawgs?

  63. Who is ABG?

    Already Be Gone

  64. ainnj: some one who regulary tr0lls us trying to convince us that Obama is the great american demigod that will rescue us from all things evil

  65. Who is ABG?

A sockpuppet who thinks he’s real

  66. he amuses me because he’s like the kid that keeps asking the same question over and over and you give him the same answer and he pops back in and just restates it in another format but e1 else here gives him no quarter which I can understand … it gets annoying without a few glasses of wine

  67. he’s like the kid that keeps asking the same question

Usually when he first shows up he’s alright but then it goes downhill fast.

It’s like “Can I come in? I promise to be good, and I really mean it this time!”

  68. Supposedly they’ve reached agreement on a $780 billion package. We shall see…

  69. Lady Boomer -that was funny maybe there is $700 million in the bill for viagra?

  70. Obama, speaking at a House Democrats retreat Thursday night, called on his party to stand firm and resist critics of the bill who brought to the table “the same tired arguments and worn ideas that helped to create this crisis.”
    SourceLink

Are there some “new” ideas in this package that no one’s talking about?

  71. Sorry, this is o/t, but the reference to Martha Stewart’s cupcakes made me think of a comment someone wrote about the SEC failing to catch on to Madoff in spite of all the red flags. They said the SEC was too busy going after Stewart for inside trading to be bothered by Madoff’s ponzi scheme. I mean, obviously, Martha had to be taught a lesson and held accountable.

  72. As I just told Cinie:

    Where I come from

    “Man who’er spreader”

  73. Martha Stewart’s cupcakes

Is someone trying to entrap me into inappropriate humor?

  75. Oh, Joe, Say It Ain’t So

“Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. is nothing if not optimistic. So it was a little surprising when he hedged a bit earlier today, telling House Democrats there is “30 percent chance we’ll get it wrong.”

Biden Gives Odds On Messing Up

  76. keeping senator ben nelson in toupees could provide adequte stimulus to the economy, and send david vitter to nevada — he’d been a one man stimulus package to every hooker there

  77. darn Fuzzy missed thr Tr0ll-

I am a little out of shape but I still think I could have dropped a house on him!

    actually pear is a shape!

  78. we could be Lindsey Graham a few more closets

  79. Dakinikat,

    How is your car?

  80. Myiq- Matha could have prepared her muffins for you….

  81. They could send Michelle earring shopping.

  82. L. Graham is a Larry Craig protoge?

  83. I wonder if they know the famous senatorial stall in the Union Station?

fouth one down on the right tap shoe 3 times for hot moan on moan action….

  84. Fuzzy,

Come on! You didn’t know that Lindsey Graham is gay? You just thought he was a nice single man of advanced age? And have you noticed how inseparable he is from McCain and Liebermann? What’s that about?

You know about Mitch McConnell, right?

  85. WASHINGTON, DC – Senator John Thune today introduced an across-the-board middle class tax rebate amendment (S. AMDT #538) to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Senator Thune’s amendment would strike the entire $936 billion Senate stimulus bill and replace it with a $936 billion across-the-board-middle-class tax rebate for 182 million Americans. The amendment would result in a tax rebate of $5,143 for single filers and $10,286 for married couples who file jointly. Eligibility is capped for all tax filers at 2007 adjusted gross income of $250,000.

While I do believe the eligibility should be capped at a lower gross income, this is something I think would work. I would like to know what dakinikat thinks, because I do admit that I am ignorant when it comes to economics.

  86. Reportedly (take it with salt) Collins, Snowe, and Specter will vote for the bill.

Come on, Congress, give me something to work with.

  87. Celeste — I agree with you — if a woman is even a half-way decent person, I’m voting for her regardless of party.

RedDragon — thanks for the find over at NQ (I stopped going there with boc thing was at its height) Exactly effing right — this is why people are idiots for voting for this empty suit in the first place — he never knows what is going on and/or pretends not to know. Either way, he has no business being dog catcher much less president.

  88. Oh Snap! I didn’t know Lindsey was gay! Learn sumin new every day!

  89. You didn’t know that Lindsey Graham is gay?

No way! He’s as macho as Rock Hudson!

  90. I understand that once it passes with republican help, everything republicans had removed will be put right back in when it reaches “conference”.

  96. Thanks, I missed that thread. I’ll go read it.
