Purty Christmas Music – Enjoy!

I’m not a Christian, but I LOVE Christmas music. So, as my holiday gift to you, here are some of my favorites:

O Holy Night“, sung by Dame Joan Sutherland (yes, that is a high “D” at the end! You go girl!)

“Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah, conducted by Robert Shaw

Riu Riu Chiu“, Christmas Carol, performed by Capella Gloriana

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear,” performed by Ella Fitzgerald

and of course:

White Christmas,” performed by Bing Crosby (and written by nice Jewish boy Irving Berlin)

May your days be merry and bright!

  3. Ewwww!

Here’s a little haiku for Myiq:

    Scary clown, Christmas
    Is not about headbanging
    Go drink some eggnog.

  4. Beautiful choices, Madamab!

Hi gang- I have missed you so much. You may have heard about Seattle snow, but i couldn’t even get home for a week. I had to stay downtown.

    How has everyone been?

  5. Look! Bad Santa avitar!

  6. Glad you are safe and sound, joaniebone – inconvenienced, but safe.

  7. It was either Billy Bob, the Grinch or Scrooge, and Billy Bob has that perv persona that I greatly admire.

  8. I’ve added another treat to the post announcing 51 Percent’s logo – a poem by Frank O’Hara. If you are so inclined, check it out: http://tdg.typepad.com/heidi_lis_potpourri/2008/12/pure-love-51-percent-logo.html

But in no way does it rival your non-Christmas avatar for good looks!

  10. Yeah, Captain Spaulding is breathtakingly handsome.

  11. Thanks Heidi 🙂

The boys are about to open presents. I’ll be back soon!

MYIQ, its great to see you, and I loved your post. I sat my eledest, Truman down to read it, and he LOVED it!

I gave him a sticker in his stocking that said, “God loves you!! -some restrictions apply”

  12. I tried to find a pic of the Captain wearing a Santa hat but no luck.

  13. xxxoooback soon!

  14. Thank you Madamab for the wonderful music!! That was a Hallelujah at a brisk pace!

  15. myiq2- You are in fine form today. Catch you folks later. Time for my traditional Christmas nap.

  16. In honor of the Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts’ reopening next month in NOLA, here’s a little Mahalia singing Christmas for ya:

  17. madamab, thanks especially for “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear,” performed by Ella Fitzgerald

As near perfection as I’ve ever heard.

  18. The Hallelujah Chorus is one of my all time favorites. I had never heard “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear” by Ella Fitzgerald before. purplefinn is right, as near perfection as I ever heard.

For any of those who need more of a Christmas Music fix I offer my particular favorite, The Carrol of the Bells by Celtic Woman.
