Senator Richard Lugar to Be Honorary Co-Chair of Inauguration

It’s 28 days and counting till Barack’s big day, and the hopey-changey-unityness is just so thrilling! Today President-elect Obama announced the lucky honorary co-chairs of his post-partisan, post democracy celebration. They will be with him when he is annnointed as Unitary Executive with almost complete control of the American Empire. And he has invited a Republican to play a role in this unprecedented, even earthshaking event. According to the Indianapolis Star

President-elect Barack Obama tapped Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., to serve as one of 15 honorary co-chairs of his inaugural committee.

The position carries no responsibilities, according to Lugar’s office.

That’s nice. I don’t know that Obama is planning for his position to carry any responsibilities either. I think he’s expecting Hillary to do most of the foreign policy work; and of course he’ll have plenty of advisers and aides from his Chicago gang to run domestic affairs. But maybe he’ll see his way clear to take charge of redecorating the White House Exercise room so he can keep his pecs inflated (See Huffpo, if you dare). Better do a little work on those skinny legs though, Obie!

The inaugural committee said the list includes members of Obama’s and Vice President-elect Joe Biden’s family, as well as “prominent Americans from both sides of the aisle who have dedicated their lives to selfless service to their fellow citizens.”

“From family members to former presidents, each of these leaders has an unwavering commitment to bipartisan cooperation and a proud record of service to their community and our country,” Obama said in a statement. “They exemplify the spirit of unity and shared purpose this Inauguration will reflect.”

Ah yes, the spirt of unity and bipartisan cooperation! That is so much more important than actually solving the horrendous problems we face in this country and around the world. It’s so much simpler to just enjoy life in the Village in peace and harmony and let the rest of the country go to hell in a handbasket. And if any of the bitter, working-class proles gets uppity, by 2011, our fearless leader will have access to 20,000 combat troops to put down any domestic uprising.

Why our President-elect has even invited a gay person to be an honorary chair of his inauguration (with no responsbilities attached, of course).

Also on the list is openly gay Wisconsin Rep. Tammy Baldwin. Obama has taken heat from gay groups for inviting Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren, who backed California Proposition 8 outlawing gay marriage, to give the inaugural invocation. As noted below, another gay representative, Barney Frank, called the choice of Warren a mistake.

How about that? Gay and a woman too! That ought to silence all those complaints about Rick “abortion is like the Holocaust” Warren, right?

And guess who else is on the list of honorary chairs? One of head speechwriter Jon “Groper” Favreau’s favorite sex objects, none other than Claire McCaskill!

Good going, Claire! That’s what you get for selling out to the highest bidder and then not carrying your state for him.

This is a “make fun of the President-elect” open thread.

  1. I wish we could just fast-forward to the day after the coronation and be done with it!

  2. Please lets add “reaching across the aisle” on the list of the worst cliches of the year — especially since Obama sees “reaching across the aisle” as kowtowing to the Republicans.

  3. Angie,

Have you seen the photo of The One at Huffpo today?

  4. Reaching across the aisle = I’m really a Republican and the Democratic agenda can go to hell.

  5. I need beer

  6. fyi,

  8. US: Soaring Rates of Rape and Violence Against Women

A new government report showing huge increases in the incidences of domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault over a two-year period in the United States deserves immediate attention from lawmakers and the incoming administration, Human Rights Watch said today. The statistics show a 42-percent increase in reported domestic violence and a 25-percent increase in the reported incidence of rape and sexual assault.

The National Crime Victimization Survey, based on projections from a national sample survey, says that at least 248,300 individuals were raped or sexually assaulted in 2007, up from 190,600 in 2005, the last year the survey was conducted. The study surveyed 73,600 individuals in 41,500 households. Among all violent crimes, domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault showed the largest increases. Except for simple assault, which increased by 3 percent, the incidence of every other crime surveyed decreased.

If you’re interested, I wrote a post about that and another survey a few days ago.

Obama needs to start wearing the mansiere (bra for men)

  11. This has got to stop!

Saudi court tells girl aged EIGHT she cannot divorce husband who is 50 years her senior

A Saudi court has rejected a plea to divorce an eight-year-old girl married off by her father to a man who is 58, saying the case should wait until the girl reaches puberty.

The divorce plea was filed in August by the girl’s divorced mother with a court at Unayzah, 135 miles north of Riyadh just after the marriage contract was signed by the father and the groom.

Lawyer Abdullar Jtili said:”The judge has dismissed the plea, filed by the mother, because she does not have the right to file such a case, and ordered that the plea should be filed by the girl herself when she reaches puberty.”

  12. Downticket:

    That’s the “bro”

  13. bostonboomer – link doesn’t work

  14. Obama the poet. The NY Times Book Review quotes from two college poems Obama published in 1981. Sample:

“Under water grottos, caverns/Filled with apes/That eat figs./Stepping on the figs/That the apes/Eat, they crunch.”

He was praised for his “bold use of enjambment”.

    I’m not kidding.

  15. Sorry, Downticket. I’ll try again. I’m confused by the new software.

  16. When Obama does it, it’s “reaching across the aisle.” When Bill Clinton did it, it was “triangulation.”

I bet those O-pecs are implants. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was another one under that baggy swim suit, too.

  17. bb — I avoid Huffpo like the plague as I’m allergic to stupidity. But, I’ll go now.

  18. bostonboomer – works

  19. You have to see it, Angie. It has to be seen to be believed. We have an American Idol President-elect.

  20. EEEWWW!! My eyes! I knew I shouldn’t have gone to huffpo. Obama does not have “pecs” he has what my former Olympiad discus-throwing ex-husband referred to as “bitch tits.”

The kool aide must be more powerful than I even imagined if the Obots think he looks good.

oh, and board shorts look asinine on anyone over 22 years old. Get some regular trunks, Barry.

  21. btw — I’m watching a ‘real’ man on tv (Sam Shepard in The Right Stuff) — such a soothing sight after a year of the ‘baby-men’ we’ve been subjected to.

  22. From a comment at ButtBurger:

“I think it’s absolutely true that bigotry of any type is hard to hang onto when the bigot gets to know the real, live people against whom the bigotry is directed.”

Yeah, all those misogynist type bigots just don’t know any real, live wimmens.

    No link – Biohazard

  23. They really do look like boobs. Maybe he needs to hire a new trainer.

  24. Well, Richard Lugar went with B0 on his ME magical tour and was referred to by some newspapers from the area as “Obama’s entourage”. he earned his “no responsibility” honor
    Downticket
I avoided Huffpo, but wanted to ass that another name for mansiere is “the bro”

  25. Huffpo said Rahm has been “exonerated” by the Obie investigation. Isn’t that up to the law enforcement types to decide?

  26. OK, I looked! reminded me of those National Geographic issues so popular with young boys

  27. Angie,

What are “board shorts?” I’m just glad he didn’t wear a thong. And does he shave his chest or what?

  28. I wish SOD would show up. We want her to photoshop the picture with a “Miss America” sash that says “Mr. Misogyny.”

I also suggested a tattoo and belly button ring.

  29. myiq — and hence, why I don’t hang out @ buttbuger — only someone under the age of 12 (chronologically or mentally) would fail to account for what W.E.B. Dubois termed “the pet negro’ i.e. — the black person the bigot got to know & liked, hell, the bigot may have even had that black person over to his home. But that doesn’t change the bigot’s mind about all black people — he just sees that one black person as “special” or as “an exception to the rule.” Sure, he thinks his “pet Negro’ is a “good guy” but always with the qualifier “for a black man.” The phenom. of the “pet negro’ applies to gays, women, and all other hated groups as well.

Furthermore, the EVs don’t “hate’ the gays — they “hate the sin, not the sinner.’ If they got to know any gays they would only pray harder for them to ‘be saved.”

  30. Angie!!! Rub your eyes!!! They burn!!! THEY BUURRRNNNN!!!
I will not be going to Huffpo to look at Obie’s man boob implants if you pay me.
(another similarity Obie has to my trophy wife step mother! They both have silicon guns!)

A brave woman with a cast iron stomach.

  32. Reaching across the aisle , isnt that groping across the aisle for the bo team ? ?? teeheee

  33. bb — a man’s pecs aren’t supposed to be “flabby’ like Obama’s are — his look like breasts. It is also a common side effect in men who take stereoids (once they stop) hence the term “bitch tits.”

board shorts are those long to the knees shorts (or swimming trunks) that the YOUNG KIDS WEAR. Obama obviously thinks it looks cool for a 47 year old man to wear them, but it isn’t.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he did NOT shave his chest — he doesn’t seem like he has enough testosterone to me to actually grow hair on his chest.

  34. angie:
You are right about the EV’s. if they know gays they are, as you explained “pet gays”.
Not Fag Magnets, as is proper!!!

  35. angie-
Obie’s man boobies aside, I saw a picature of the Big Dawg in swimming shorts and Hillary with him- she was wearing a swimming suit-on the beach and the Big Dawg didn’t really have any hair on his chest either.
    Think he shaves it?

bb — Huffpo also said the Blago indictment ‘exonerated’ Obama — so consider the source — they obviously don’t know what “exonerated’ means over there.

  37. swannie:
for Obie and his gang, it is groping silicon.

  38. littleisis — the Big Dawg has hair on his chest — it is just so light from the sun that you can’t see it in pictures.

    laughed my *ss off.
Oh, hai, Angie, have you checked Elizabeth Joyce’s website lately? She has some new stuff. 😀

  43. Angie,

Are you implying I don’t know what a naked man’s chest is supposed to look like? I’ll have you know I’ve been married twice and had a number of other relationships betwixt and between before my current haggard old lady status.

You wrote: “he doesn’t seem like he has enough testosterone to me to actually grow hair on his chest.”

I was going to add that to my comment, but I held back. I’m glad you didn’t. LOL! To me he just doesn’t seem to have any sex appeal. I guess when you’re madly in love with yourself, it’s hard to generate much sexual energy for others.

  44. Bostonboomer, I want to thank you for bringing attention to that Facebook ban on “working class” boobs. I’ve joined the group and will do the virtual protest. I have a great pic where I’m breast feeding my son, and my other son just happens to be inadvertently protecting my modesty because he’s wearing Deely Boppers. Funny … reminds me of the Austin Powers skit.

  45. That’s terrific, britgirls. I heard that Facebook deleted the protest group. I’m glad the protest is still happening.

Huffpo needs to get with the program…I think the word was “absolved”

Set or declare (someone) free from blame, guilt, or responsibility : the pardon absolved them of any crimes.
    • Christian Theology give absolution for (a sin).

As in “The Messiah absolved Rahm from any and all sin.”

    F**king a**hats!!!!

  48. Won’t it be fun when Al Franken is in the Senate? I bet he’ll drive Obama up the wall.

  49. {{{littleisis}}}

I’m glad you liked it. This is a “make fun of the President-elect” open thread.

I actually mean what I said though. The guy does not come across as sexual. You know what I mean?

  50. but SHV, you silly goose!!!
Don’t you know? Obie is free from sin!!! Because he was sent from God as his only son to die on the cross…
    Oh, wait, sorry. Wrong Messiah!

  51. LOL!

  52. I do know what you mean. One of my best friends is an Obamabot and she only voted for him because, as she says, he is her “chocolate raaaaiiiinnnn…”
But I don’t find him attractive. He has Dumbo ears and that stupid f*cking little mole he has right next to his nose is so repulsive it makes me physically ill.
    Now, Big Dawg…
that was a guy with testosterone. It nearly rolled off of him in waves. I have almost as big a crush on him as Regency does. But Obie is just an unattractive man. He’s like John Kerry. You can tell he is just really boring and unimaginative in the sack, very selfish, doesn’t take care of his partner, ect. Just by looking at him.

  53. bb — I agree that he doesn’t come across as sexual — I think the only person he likes to f*ck is himself (while looking in a mirror, of course)

  54. See? Angie gets what I mean! He probably masterb*tes while imaging himself f*cking himself (EG: a double) and that is how he gets off.

  55. Just looked up Lugar’s voting record. His Progressive Punch score is 12.6%..worse that LaHood. The Dem Senator that the lefty blogs are always calling to be defeated, Ben Nelson, has a score of 52%. Obama really loves him some reactionaries.

  64. Give me a moment here while I finish gagging over that wretched Barky poetry above (who are they kidding???). Gaaaahhhhghhh. Think I’m finished there.

Okay, my husband has furnished the first two lines of the “Spamelot” lyrics. (Tuning up….la la la….) Here goes: “The bus may never roll ’til after sundown/By 8 a.m. the bodies disappear…”

    Take it away, conflucians.

i one of my recent entries I posted the perfect visual aid for your description
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/12/17/i-am-as-humble-as-lincoln-maybe-humbler/

  67. Michelle probably gets it on with the pool boy or the chauffeur, or maybe a speech writer or two. Think of all the new boy toys she’ll have to choose from once she gets to the White House, not to mention all the rooms she’ll get to do it in.

Ewww, I just grossed myself out…

  68. Edge! LMAO — I LOVE THAT!! Perfect visual for Obama!

  69. OMG, edge, that is perfect! He’ll probably have to order lots of new mirrors for the White House.

  70. Nell:
EEEEWWW. Hillbuzz coined the phrase “Michelle Antoinette”. I think it will be a common phrase by next year.

  71. Nell,

Wouldn’t it be delicious irony if Michelle had an affair with the scriptwriter? Oh that would be my dream come true.

  72. LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!
    Loved it Edge!!!

  73. And if the pictures were posted on Facebook, even better!

  74. bb — yeah, not to mention mirrors for the ceilings — oh, that the Lincoln bedroom would be so defiled.

Did I mention I’m watching All the Right Stuff? Watching it makes me so proud to be an American, then I remember who we just (cough) “elected” (cough) & I get so damn sad. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

  75. bb — I wouldn’t wish that Favreau even on MO. LOL

  76. Well, well, well, lookie what I found while doing my periodic curiousity cruise of LGF:

“Rick Warren, the Saddleback Church pastor chosen by Barack Obama to deliver the invocation at the presidential inauguration, has been getting a lot of media attention because he’s a very vocal opponent of gay marriage. Panda’s Thumb points out that Warren is also a creationist…

Oddly enough, the FAQ page at the Saddleback Church that contained their policy statements on dinosaurs, evolution, and homosexuality (among other subjects) has suddenly been wiped clean…”

Time for another addition to the Olexicon: the Obamediascrub.

  77. Okay, Bostonboomer, you’ve outdone yourself. This post is absolutely f*cking snarktastic!!! Brava!

The little ceremonial posts for Lugar et al. are probably just more payback for either political support or donations. I’ll bet C+lin P0well is one of the “honorees.” Change you can’t believe!

    This is classic Warren logic:

“Warren, a creationist, believes that homosexuality disproves evolution; he told CNN’s Larry King in 2005, “If Darwin was right, which is survival of the fittest then homosexuality would be a recessive gene because it doesn’t reproduce and you would think that over thousands of years that homosexuality would work itself out of the gene pool.”

  80. You guessed it, madamab. Colin Powell is on the list! So is Michelle’s brother. I wonder why he is always invited to everything? His speech at the convention was so bad.

BTW, thanks for the kind words.

  81. I hope somebody got a screenshot of that creationist BS. It’s probably in the guy’s books anyway.

  82. Warren seems to have a rather limited and unsophisticated understanding of Darwin’s theory.

  83. There is a certain syllogistic symmetry with creationists not believing in evolution, since the true product of evolution wouldn’t be a creationist.

It give me a headache thinking about it but they do believe in “evolution”
Since the Earth is 6k years old and the “great Flood” was a a few thousand years ago and since the ancestors of all of today’s animals fit onto a Bronze Age boat..each pair was “of a kind”. So with their logic and time frame, we should be seeing animals changing into all of the varies derivatives of “of a kind”. So we should be seeing animals and plants changing before our eyes in real time. The fact that seemingly otherwise intelligent humans could believe this stuff is one of the true mysteries of the human mind. Now I need brain bleach.

Oh, snap! Prolix — I can’t wait to try my new line of attack when the EVs start trying to talk to me about Creationism– “you must be right, because if Darwin was you wouldn’t exist.” LOL

  86. I wish folks would really study the origins of Christianity. There are so many in jokes the Romans put in there it’s not even funny. Sunday is celebrated as the ‘holy day’ because Caesar was the high priest of the Sun God and Sunday is his day. And December 25th was chosen because it was the ‘birthday’ of mithros, an important god of roman soldiers adopted from the persians …

    creationists ignore so much

but anyway, soltice is past, the national crass consumerism day based on the birth of the Bull god will pass again, and we’re still stuck with folks and strict interpretation of a document developed to control slaves and assimilate northern european nations …

    what else is new?

  87. I just find it amazing that stalwart creationists like Rev. Rick suddenly have to “evolve” their church policies with a delete button when they come to light.

  88. Prolix: because it’s all about what sells and brings in the income

  89. New post up!

  90. SHV: no one explained to him that as long as two folks carrying a recessive gene reproduce it carries forward? What, he want’s every one tested to make sure they are sterlized with certain recessive genes? Sounds sorta NAZI like to e.

  91. dakinikat — that is cool about the birth of mithros — I always though Dec. 25 was chosen to “coincide” with Hanuka & as a substitute for the solstice celebrations of the pagans.
btw, in case anyone doesn’t know Jesus was actually born in the Spring — an Aries just like me (and not a Capricorn — like all the Capricorns think). LOL

Love the lyrics. Your husband must be fun to be around.

    OT
i just got the best Christmas present ever.
The biopsy came back benign on my oldest daughter.
My second daughter had been operated on for cervical cancer in the beginning of the year and is fine now. Right before Thanksgiving my oldest daughter had a mamogram the looked wrong. She called me tonight and said everything in fine.
No matter what else happens this year the fact that two of my daughters are ok is the best present I could get.

  93. angie: if you read up on the Nicean group when Constantine decided to use christianity for the roman empire, it’s just one inside joke after another

  94. helenk — great news! You will have a truly happy Christmas this year!!!

  95. dakinkat — do you happen to know a book to recommend? I’m very interested in learning about that.

  96. helenk — that’s great! A truly great reason to celebrate.

  97. HelenK,

Thanks for sharing your wonderful news with us! I’m so happy for you and your daughters.

  98. What I find amusing about creationists is that they believe that if they debunk evolution that by default creationism is how we were created- uh SCIENCE doesn’t work that way. Disproving evolution does not prove creationism, all it would mean is that you disproved a theory. You still need proof to support your theory.

  99. Thank you all.
i feel like the weight of the world has been lifted.

  100. I was away this weekend, and couldn’t get on the computer. I just went to Drudge to get headlines and was subjected to that wretch-inducing picture of Obama in board shorts. He really is Bush III: every time I hear a report about him, he’s on his way to/or just returning from the gym. Instead of his portrait in the White House, they should just get him a huge mirror so he can gaze at himself. Yuck. When is this country going to grow up?

  101. So was it Adam or Eve that has the recessive homosexual gene? Hmmmmmm I’m sure it’s all Eve’s fault, after all she is the one with the scary woman parts.

Personally, I find it pretty creepy that folks believe that we are the basically the products of incestuous relationships as we’d have to be if the Bible were accurate. Last I remeber Eve didn’t have any daughters and if they did who would they have to procreate with but dear ol’ dad or their siblings. Seems rather “Ewwwwwww” to me.
