I have to give Patty Loveless major PUMA props for “Blame It On Your Heart”
That song brings back memories. 🙂
Thanks for posting!
Blame It On Your Heart is just a great ‘go f*** yourself ‘ song.
:embarassed: I posted a redundant link.
Thank you so much for posting this, I hear Emmy Lou Harris’s and Joan Baez’s influence in her music.
LOL, parentofed, as good as it gets!
I have some WV musician friends who sang on the Harlan County USA movie soundtrack. They worked on the campaign for the guy who was running against Tony Boyle for UMWA prez. The guy & his wife & grown daughter were killed right before the election; Boyle ended up in jail. Can’t remember the murdered guy’s name right off, Polish name or something. Think they lived in PA.
My friends were routinely harassed & beaten for going against Boyle.
Thanks for the memories, I must get off here.
My knee injury from a hike right before the election is not healing well, and I’m forbidden to sit for very long. Since I only have a desktop computer, my time on here is very limited.
“routinely harrassed and beaten” sounds awful.
I’m sorry for your friends.
Jock Yablonsky, wasn’t it? “But for Jock Lablonsky, his daughter and wife, [something] brought an end to tehir precious life…’
I love Patti Loveless (although that sounds sort of like a contradiction in terms).
When my Father retired from the Army we went to his hometown, Middlesboro KY – Eastern KY coal mining region. We played Harlan County in football and other sports. Went up there for football games. M’boro was bad enough but Harlan seemed really desolate.
As the saying goes, coal curses every land that owns it.
Harlan County USA is a good film. Directed by Barbara Kopple. Indie films are where women in filmmakers get a chance to leave their mark. Kopple’s later film American Dream (also very good) details what Reagan, Obama’s hero, did to unions. Remember the air traffic controllers union? Word is Obama is going to appoint a Republican as Sec. of Transportation. Bet the current ATC union is having second thoughts about the the bucks they pumped to Mr. Hopey Change. D’oh!
