    • The Flynn Pardon Is The Right Thing To Do + Mishandling Russia
So, Michael Flynn has been pardoned by Trump. His crime was lying to the FBI about talking to the Russians before Trump was inaugurated. Even a man like Trump can do the right thing occasionally, usually for the wrong reasons. It is entirely reasonable and routine for a President-elect’s advisors to talk to foreign governments. […]

Digby Sees The Light

network-howard-beal

In reaction to the prospect of Chris “Tweety” Matthews running for the Senate from Pennsylvania, the Santa Monica blogger says:

I honestly don’t know quite how to deal with this. Over the past year I have strained and even broken treasured friendships over the idea that allowing a Republican to win over a Democrat, no matter how bad he or she is, would be to empower the more destructive of the two parties and ultimately enable the kind of horror show we’ve seen in the past eight years.
But Matthews is a bridge too far. I could never vote for, raise funds for or in any other way help Chris Matthews become a member of the Senate and if it came down to it, if I lived in Pa, I’d probably support Specter.

Welcome to PUMA!

What took you so long?

  1. I don’t think there will be much of a race if Specter is able to run again (health wise that is).

  2. Do we know for sure that Mathews is running as a Democrat?

  3. Yeah. I always had her on the Smart List until she fell in with the Kool-Aid Krowd. It’d be great to know she’s worth reading again!

  4. Sorry, I spit on Digby. And don’t care what she has to say about anything.

  5. I agree with katiebird, she’s lost too much gravitas in my eyes to return to some level of respect

  6. I spit on her too. I don’t know how she became a “respectable blogger”. Maybe she knew how to play the “boy’s game” well?

  7. Yeah, but she has finally conceded that there are more important things than party unity.

That’s the first step in Kool-aid recovery

  8. Yeah, me too. I’m all done with Digby. It’s too little, too late.

  9. I hope she recovers, but I will never read her again anyway. She can’t be trusted.

  10. Teresaa:

Digby became a respected blogger long before anyone knew her gender.

She spent years building her reputation but blew it all supporting Teh Precious.

She went way past the point where her intellectual and ethical authority can ever be taken seriously again. She is beyond redemption.

  12. I’m looking forward to the live blog. I guess I should take my laptop out in the other room so I can watch it on TV with the rest of you.

I always thought she was an enlightened male until she was “outed” at FDL.

  14. kewl 🙂 bb … please do … i’m wondering what will be unhatched and I trust Greta!

  15. Digby is one of those bloggers that make you ask:

    Were they fooled or lying?

    and

    Which is worse?

  16. my: you know, I hate to have to think about that question … it’s the big one with Obama, every time one of his associates does something illegal, he says, i didn’t know about that …

i’m like what’s worse…he’s a naive idiot, or a Nixonian lying jerk? either way, NOT some thing I’m looking forward to in a president

  17. I don’t know which is worse, but I do know which one Obama is. He’s a lying, Nixonian, corrupt creep. He didn’t get this far by being an innocent.

  18. Ed Rendell is on with Huckabee defending the big O liar.

  19. Rendell: “We haven’t seen in American for a long time sombody of the integrity of President-elect Obama.”

True. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a president more corrupt than Nixon. Ullysses S. Grant maybe?

  20. Hey, I’m talking to myself here….

  21. Yep. BO is either oblivious or a liar. Both are bad, real bad. But I’m with bb, he’s always reminded me of a horrible combination of Nixon and Dubya.

  22. I’m signing off to go watch Greta.

  23. gxm,

Join us on the live blog!

  24. KB — I’m with you — I spit on Digby — as SHV noted, she is beyond redemption.

Fooled or Lying — which is worse? I say does it matter ? One is too dumb to respect, the other too corrupt. I choose not to waste my time with either.

  25. “True. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a president more corrupt than Nixon. Ullysses S. Grant maybe?”

    Er…George W Bush?

  26. I agree with all of the above. Digby sold her soul. Anyone with an ounce of common sense could see what Obama was. That someone of Digby’s supposedly character and genius couldn’t see the forest for the trees does not make sense. She threw all the good will she had earned and built up out the window. i would never read her blog again.

Thank you — we only have so much time in a day — and now we have so many more choices.

Frankly Digby can go to hell — too little — too late. She may not be a Boyz blogger — but she is one of them in spirit.

I’d rather read War and Peace — then ever again spent time with the likes of the KoolAid drinkers.

  28. Northwest rain — what have you got against War & Peace? Tolstoy is my second favorite writer ever — Dostoevsky is my favorite (I obviously have a thing for Russian literature). IMO, War & Peace isn’t as good as Anna Karinana, but it is still pretty fab.

  29. I never read Digby so I will never understand why she was so popular in the first place. I think I went to her site early on in the primaries and found the site and her writing difficult to read. I ended up here and on Anglachel’s Journal most of the time during the first half of the year.

I’m glad Digby isn’t a total robot for the Democratic Party. There are some people so immoral and sexist that you should vote against them regardless of their political affiliation. Chris Matthews is one of those people and so is Barack Obama.

  30. love the snow flurries!

  31. I don’t know Digby, so I can only guess, but I think she got intimidated in the primaries. She’d come out of the gender closet not too long before that, and every time she said anything complimentary about Clinton, the comments became toxic…well, you remember how it was. Her comment boxes became sewers of misogyny. She had to start seriously moderating comments, and had to turn them off entirely many, many times.

It wouldn’t surprise me if she became afraid for herself physically, certainly psychically. And so she gave in, and joined with the crowd.

That’s my guess, anyway. And now she gets to learn that it’s still not enough, never enough, even though she’s become a blind believer; her comments boxes are still filled with cranks and crazies, and the precious Dems are talking with Tweety.

  32. merciless: So?? Do you think it was sunshine and roses for us? We were called old, fat, ugly, stupid, racists, c^(ts. Sticks and stones and all of that.
The thing is, if you have a big megaphone, you have an obligation not to cave just when people start treating you mean. Because, it you give in, you diminish the impact of that megaphone. You can’t be a credible voice if you can’t hold your ground.
Now, Digby may not give a rat’s ass about what we think of her because she finally has the ad revenue that makes her solvent. And let’s face it, Digby writes phenomenally well. But I don’t go there anymore. I can’t trust anything she writes. She is writing for the people who bought her, not the people who had respect for her.
    C’est la vie.
