    • The Flynn Pardon Is The Right Thing To Do + Mishandling Russia
So, Michael Flynn has been pardoned by Trump. His crime was lying to the FBI about talking to the Russians before Trump was inaugurated. Even a man like Trump can do the right thing occasionally, usually for the wrong reasons. It is entirely reasonable and routine for a President-elect’s advisors to talk to foreign governments. […]

Illinois Governor Blagojevich Arrested

Blagojevich and Friends

Blagojevich and Friends

I guess Blago shouldn’t have advertised in the Chicago Tribune:

FOR SALE: U.S. Senate seat – like new, barely used

From the Chicago Tribune:

“Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff were arrested today by FBI agents on federal corruption charges.

[…]

Blagojevich was taken into custody hours after the Tribune reported that the investigation into allegations of pay-to-play politics within his administration had been expanded to include his pending choice of a Senate replacement for Obama.”

Is this the change we have been waiting for?

————————————————————————————–

UPDATE:

From Mark Halperin:

A federal official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that the allegations include that the governor took money from at least one individual in connection with naming a successor for the U.S. Senate seat that was vacated by Obama. The official declined to be named publicly because the investigation was still under way.

Blagojevich is charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery.

————————————————————————————

UPDATE II:

From CNN:

By this time, media reports indicated that Senate Candidate 1, an advisor to the President-elect, was interested in the Senate seat if it became vacant, and was likely to be supported by the President-elect. During the call, ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated, “unless I get something real good for [Senate Candidate 1], shit, I’ll just send myself, you know what I’m saying.”

ROD BLAGOJEVICH later stated, “I’m going to keep this Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain. You hear what I’m saying. And if I don’t get what I want and I’m not satisfied with it, then I’ll just take the Senate seat myself.” Later, ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated that the Senate seat “is a f-ing valuable thing, you just don’t give it away for nothing.”

  1. Only one piece of good news for Blagojevich: in a month Obama will be picking US attorneys.

  2. As long as they can get some action on it before Obama can start cleaning out the Federal prosecuteurs or start signing pardons …

First President ever to pardon folks in his first minute of office

  3. Just one big happy Soprano style family. Crooks, cheats, liars, sharks.

The presidency of the US brought to you by the good folks of Illinois.

  4. The other guy is Mayor Daley – another paragon of virtue.

  5. Bet you there’s no pardon, Dak. There’s other ways for Mr O to handle this.

  6. This is linked on CNN:

  7. Obama: “This is not the Gov. Blagojevich I thought I knew”.

  8. I love the way we’re giving him the presumption of guilt, btw. It just sort of comes naturally. One corrupt administration investigating another.

  9. oy, well, i’ve given my one final exam for the day, back to new orleans in the katmobile!!!

  10. Did someone goose obama just as that picture was taken?

O/T….Has anyone seen Stxabuela? If you do, would you please have her contact PssttCmere/hotmail.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

  11. This “tool” won his election saying that he was going to “clean up” the state following the sentencing of the previous governor who was sent to prison for corruption. He has been under investigation for some time.

You must be pretty stupid, not to mention arrogant, to then continue, on tape no less, to engage in activities such as suggesting the vacant Senate seat was up for sale.

These people are unbelievable or is it that they think they have a “friend” in the White House?

  12. Al Gore Waves Off Official Role in Obama Administration:
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/16344

Al Gore has made a wise move. He is better off fighting for progressive values outside of politics. He knows the media will attack him if he ever gets involved with an official role in the White House ever again. I wish Hillary Clinton could’ve chosen the same route as Al Gore. I still think that even though SOS is a prestigious position, the Obama administration is tainted, immoral, and bound for trouble. Things are going to get rocky eventually. It’s best that Gore has nothing to do with what will happen in the next 4 years.

  13. Is anyone who Barack thought they were? Is this man the absolute worst judge of character we have ever seen, or is he just as corrupt as all of his cronies?

A note on the previous thread, no wonder Favreau managed to sell the hopey changey BS to the youth of America, he is one of their damn frat brothers.

This whole administration may turn out to be the biggest joke ever played on the American people. We thought Bush was bad, Obie hasn’t even taken the oath of office yet.

Pat are you with me? I am still banging my head against the walls, are you? I read and lurk, not having anything of real import to say because it has all been said. Now we get to sit back and watch this fiasco unfold; problem is, we are the ones who get to pay for it.

  14. Lets hope Gov. Paterson is watching. What is the price on Hillary’s senate seat?

  15. John McCain could cut a new version of that hit song from a few years back, How Do You Like Me Now?

  16. OT, but important. I read a piece yesterday suggesting that Susan Rice was elevated to cabinet position as UN Ambassador, because they are grooming her to replace HRC at State down the road. Check out this article below. It seems she is not waiting to move in on HRC’s territory:

WASHINGTON (AP) – The first sign of cracks in President-elect Barack Obama’s foreign policy team of rivals emerged on Monday as his choices for secretary of state and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations visited the State Department.

As Secretary of State-pick Hillary Rodham Clinton and U.N. envoy-choice Susan Rice separately visited the diplomatic agency’s headquarters in Washington’s Foggy Bottom neighborhood, persons familiar with the transition said that Rice wants to install her own transition team inside the department.

Such a move by an incoming U.N. ambassador is rare, if not unprecedented, because the job is based at the United Nations in New York, where Rice already has a small transition staff, the sources familiar with the incoming administration.

  17. DisenfranchisedVoter, on December 9th, 2008 at 10:16 am

I agree about Hillary and the SOS position but don’t care about what Al Gore does. He was silent when Hillary’s delegates were being stolen.

  18. Kim: I am with you! Just trying to get my footprints off the ceiling since November. Is this guy for real or what? I am not a member of Mensa or a Phi Beta Kappa yet I could see through his bullsh*t long ago.

This “historical” win needs to be placed into proper perspective. The only thing historical about this is the willingness of the American public to once again allow itself to be duped by a marketing machine without a soul.

This guy came unannounced and unvetted and as the Rev. Wright so aptly points out, “the chickens are coming home to roost”. And yes, like Ayers, he too is back in the news.

  19. Pay to play…sounds a little familiar. All the payoffs the resident select is giving. They surely paid to play.

  20. If Obama is “the One we have all been waiting for” I would like to ask that they stop the world now as I want to get off!

  21. From fif’s link

The push by Rice, an early Obama supporter whose position the President-elect wants to elevate to a cabinet post, is also a signal that she intends to use her influence with the new president to play a more significant role than previous U.N. envoys, they said. The transition sources spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.
    ———

Technically, the job of U.N. envoy falls under the authority of the secretary of state, although some previous U.N. ambassadors have held cabinet rank. The last U.N. ambassador to be part of the president’s cabinet was Richard Holbrooke, who had a famously icy relationship with then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright during the Clinton administration.

  22. Does anyone have the sinking feeling that even before she starts, Hillary’s days are numbered? Perhaps we are looking at a 12 to 18 month term of service?

I hope I am over projecting but I see her surrounded by sharks.

  23. The trolls and cheetoeaters will be going crazy today.

I’m guessing there will be lots of moderating to do.

  24. YIPEE!!!!

  25. Pat:

Hillary is a big girl and she knows what she’s doing.

  26. The tr0lls will only concede that as corrupt as Illinois politics may be, their “guy” managed to emerge as clean and triumphant just the same.

Just leave your own reasoning at the door when confronted with this avenue of logic.

  27. IIRC, the UN ambassador had cabinet level throughout the Clinton administration.

They don’t necessarily get along with the SoS.

  28. Just saw some blurb about a cabinet position also being for sale according to the tapes. Did anyone see that?

  29. myiq: Just keep hanging on to that thought.

  30. Rice installing her own transition team inside the state department as Hillary???? Why can’t she work at the UN where she already has her own office and staff. All these people are apart of Obama’s inner circle. Anyone that thinks Hillary will be able to influence the messiah to do anything is kidding themselves. He is only going to listen to his closeset advisors. Samantha Powers is back. This all gang literally hates Hillary. She is a monster, Samantha Powers said. The idiot writer didn’t think there was anything wrong with posting the photo because in that inncer circle it is okay to humiliate Hillary. That is the norm and that is why everyone in that photo was laughing.

  31. Pat:

If she’s not we never should have supported her in the first place.

  32. Rice clearly has her eyes on HRC’s job, but they couldn’t justify it yet. The article also says that Albright mentored Rice, and they were close until they had a falling out over Rice’s defection to BO. Birds of a feather–she belongs on Obama’s team. He and his people are all willing to back stab and climb over anyone to elevate themselves before they are qualified for the position–including the people who trained them. Alice Palmer anyone. Judas Richardson is another user/traitor.

The only consolation: Hillary can handle Rice. Of course, Rice will be backed by Obama, but I’d love to see Rice try to confront Hillary. She’s out of her league.

  33. DJ:

    No, I haven’t seen that.

    Got a link?

  34. Some more Toby Keith lyrics I find appropriate for the occasion…

Grand pappy told my pappy back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he’d done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street
For all the people to see.

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
And we’ll all meet back at the local saloon
And we’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing
whiskey for my man, beer for my horses.

  35. plural: but Rice is Obama’s close friend. He is also appointing a Special Envoy for the Middle East that will directly report to him. That typically goes through State’s office. He is curtailing HRC’s role.

  36. I hope I am over projecting but I see her surrounded by sharks.

You aren’t. She is surrounded and they are out to get her.

  37. OK Fitzgerald has less than a month before Obama pardons him.

  38. Illinois’ Lt. Gov is Patrick J. Quinn – D

  39. That Carville tape really depressed me. Where are the (s)heroes?

    Off to work. G’day all.

  40. Downticket, on December 9th, 2008 at 10:17 am Said:
Lets hope Gov. Paterson is watching. What is the price on Hillary’s senate seat?

    Great comment!

  41. It appears to me that they have not finished with Hillary as yet. We recognize that she is a strong and powerful contender, that goes without saying. However, from where I sit, it looks as if they have plans that do not include her.

Again, I may be overreacting and overly sensitive to anything attached to Obama and minions, but it appears that they are carving out an adjunct role for Susan Rice that may well conflict with the role Hillary is intended to play. Grooming the successor in advance.

  42. So what’s the difference between RodBlog selling the Illinois seat, and Teddy trying to buy a NY one? Both are looking for a return of money/power on their investment. Teddy attempting to blackmail Paterson should be just as illegal as RodBlog’s illegal sale of a Senate seat.

Where are the outraged cries from NY and IL voters?

Everyday another brick in the wall.

  43. myiq–scrolled on news, trying to find it somewhere else. Will let you know.

  44. myiq, search the indictment linked above for “cabinet.”

  45. Isn’t Rezko still awaiting sentencing?

  46. DJ:

Here is what you referring to:

“On the issue of the U.S. Senate selection, federal prosecutors alleged Blagojevich sought appointment as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the new Obama administration, or a lucrative job with a union in exchange for appointing a union-preferred candidate.

other things, appointment as Secretary of Health & Human Services in the President-elect’s
    administration,

  48. yes you found it. I’m sorry I don’t know how to do that. Please delete my messy post.

  49. Hillary is certainly strong. And she knows what she is doing. But she is still human, and no one can tred shark infested water indefinitely. Other than being physically abused, she has already put up with more emotional and mental abuse than anyone I have experienced.

How much can we really expect of her. How long can she hold a torch all by herself? Except on these blogs, no one EVER stands up for her. Or any women for that matter.

    Where the !@#@! is NOW?

  50. I guess Blago shouldn’t have advertised in the Chicago Tribune:

FOR SALE: U.S. Senate seat – like new, barely used

  51. mlhath– You beat me to it. Ted Kennedy is threatening Gov. Paterson, maybe this will give him cause to step back. If only we had more Fitzpatricks and if only Fitzpatrick had worked a little faster. I still think that Obama’s hands will prove to be dirtied by this .

  52. What’s interesting about the accusation in the indictment that Bladojevich wanted to trade the Senate appt for a cabinet position is that I suspect that engaging in this kind of horse trading is likely SOP in such appointments. This is very likely how the insiders always behave, though they pretend to the outside world that only objective, defensible reasons lie behind their decisions.

As mentioned by another poster, this hardly differs from the account given of Ted Kennedy’s pressure on Paterson to appoint Caroline — his niece, of course.

But the horse trading is now part of an indictment. I can easily imagine chills going down many spines.

  53. Pass the popcorn.

Too bad the Dems don’t have an outsider who’s a proven reformer on the ticket.

  54. If they can withhold votes from her in the primaries that she earned, if the superdelegates could be persuaded to turn their backs on her and support him, if they could withhold key memberships in the Senate from her, if they could trash her daily in the press, if they could get her to resign her Senate seat, if they could reduce the duties of the SoS from her, then the capability exists that in a matter of a very short time she may be forced out.

How is that reasoning so difficult to deduce?

  55. I’m watching CNN right now and conspicuously absent from their report is Blago’s party affiliation.

  56. myiq: LOLOLOL

  57. “barely used” ..very good

  58. Myiq2xu: very witty!

Presumption of innocence and all that aside, I am very happy to hear that Blagojevich has been arrested. Ever since reading Evelyn Pringle’s articles a while back, I have been convinced that the guy stinks to high heaven. Is it too much to hope that there’s something linking the Senate and cabinet deals to Obama?

  59. Jules:

Patrick Fitzgerald is the US Atty in Illinois who has been leading the investigation. He’s the guy who nailed Scooter Libby.

He’s a straight arrow type and wouldn’t have filed charges unless he had the goods.

OTOH – Blago has really nice hair.

  60. Hey, Riverdaughter was musing on Sunday about the possibility that the storm about Favreau might be a ruse to distract us from something. I wonder if this might be the something?

  61. Myiq, I’ve been having fantasies about Patrick Fitzgerald for a while now, and they do involve handcuffs. Only in my fantasy, he’s putting them around Obama’s wrists!!

  62. Seems like all of Obie’s cohorts are a bunch of corrupt asshats and he is knee deep in this BS, imho.

  63. I don’t see why they would want to appoint her in order to force her out. They would look like fools to the whole world, and the person they replaced her with would have no credibility.

  64. Blago is pure Machine. Despite the blurring of boundaries between the party regulars and the reformer liberals, there is still an internicine war between the two camps. Now that the IVI-IPO types have the upper hand, Blago is the first to go.

  65. When Obama was elected to the Illinois legislature, his wife was given a pay raise of over $100,000. If that is not a form of corruption I don’t know what is. It was slid into his pocket by the back door which also afforded him the opportunity of purchasing a million dollar mansion with the assistance of Tony Rezko.

Perhaps I see corruption differently but these two actions alone tells a whopper of a story. But wait, Sarah Palin spent money for a makeover! Oh the folly!

  66. myiq- I know how wonderful you are, but am I the only one that is surprised that Talk Left does not have anything up yet??? They do crime, right?? I only went over there to see how low they have sunk and they met my expectations.

  67. plural: By making her the “offer” of Secy of State it frees up her Senate seat which Teddy is pushing for his niece. Do you really think for a moment that Obama has any love or loyalty toward Hillary? Come on!

They win either way. They silence her supporters, get her out of the Senate and appoint one more amenable to their wishes, shut down UHC, and place her in a position that she must appear to be “onboard”. Then they surround her with Obama surrogates who will work to undermine her and when the time comes, push her out gently for public purposes.

I am just waiting for the tagline: she wants to spend more time with her family. That one will be sure to surface. Susan Rice is a mere understudy. This is just a political version of “All About Eve” with Hillary in the Bette Davis role.

  68. Why am I not surprised. Birds of a feather flock togteher. Its been abundantly clear the slogan of “Change we can believe in” refers to the kind of change that jingles. CHA-CHING!

  69. Yeah Pat lets blast this woman for mascara, in the meantime Michelle and Obama get a McMansion.

  70. The funniest line of the last 40 days…..

“FOR SALE: U.S. Senate seat – like new, barely used.”

    Thanks for the belly laugh.

  71. Patrick Fitzgerald was appointed by the Bush administration. Come January all federal prosecuters, as a matter of policy, will tender their resignations. This allows the new president to appoint his own slate.

Fitzgerald will be one of those effected. If Obama replaces him it will be an indication that corruption in Illinois will go untouched since it is a sure bet that the next Illinois federal prosecuter will be a Dem.

  72. I sometimes think one of the reasons Hill took the SOS job was for the protection it offers.( such as it is ) The Hill bashing has been really bad this year. But it did not get as bad as it was for Hill during Ken Starr’s rampage in the ’90s. Then she had all this press shit AND a the full weight of the US justice system run a muck on her too. We wounder how she does all she does while this crap is flying …but she’s done it before and more. Anything would seem easier than this crap AND Ken Starr . IMO

  73. Pat, don’t forget that Bette Davis’ character won in the end.

  74. DJ: She only won the man in the end and it was assumed she settled down into a quieter life. The spotlight was on Eve, for good or bad, who won the prize role that led to her fame.

  75. ouch. I guess I need to watch it again. I always loved that movie…that might change.

  76. Shainzona…..hey there….long time no see!!

Pat Johnson: re: your earlier comments….

I, too, feel Hillary is being set up for another smackdown….maybe her ambitions have affected her b.s. meter. Time will tell that story.

  77. I made a squishy poopie in my pants!

(edited for the amusement of Captain Spaulding)

  78. Pat Johnson, on December 9th, 2008 at 11:02 am Said:

How is that reasoning so difficult to deduce?

I agree although I don’t think Hillary was forced to leave the senate. Hillary wanted the SOS job. I don’t find it hard to believe that Obama would fire her after 6 months as SOS. With the media as his spin doctors and her being a Clinton, they will find a way to blame it on her. Campbell Brown found a way to blame her for the photo. The SOS firing shouldn’t be too hard.

  79. paper doll, those are very good points.

  80. I told you guys that Chicago politicians are all rats. I grew up here. I know.

Now watch Blago sing like a canary along with Rezko. Now Blago can share his jail cell with the other arrested Illinois Governor George Ryan.

If Blago was doing this. Obama knew something about it.

  81. Seems to me Betty won….and alot more than Gary Merrill lol! Betty won by letting Eve be Eve and Eve brought herself to the point of getting drunk while the new Eve showing up. Susan Rice can’t care for herself much less take on Hillary Clinton. Being Obama’s friend isn’t much protection it seems to me.

  82. Back to the Sec of HHS in exchange for Obama’s seat thing, just who would Gov Rod be negotiating with? President-elect’s transition team?

  83. The NY gubernatorial election is in 2010: a year at State to enhance her foreign policy cred, followed by 5 years as Governor of New York, and she ought to be pretty much unassailable in 2016 – particularly if she resigns as SOS from a corrupt administration for reasons of conscience.

  84. aftrocity: Of course he did. He is in it up to his eyebrows with the only difference being that he has managed to escape without getting his hands dirty in the meantime. Like everything attached to him, someone else does the dirty work.

  85. I get paid to spread Obama talking points

    (edited to reflect the truth)

  86. Oh and I love Thelma Ritter

Betty : When we get home, you are going to put on this girdle and act for 2 hours.

Thelma : I couldn’t get into the girdle in 2 hours

  87. Myiq said: ” FOR SALE: U.S. Senate seat – like new, barely used.”

Thanks for the laugh. Imagine the ad for Blagojevich’s seat? And to think this jerk was a [beautiful] hair’s breadth away from being the Dem POTUS nominee and proabable POTUS-elect?

  88. And so it begins …… or will Obama make sure it ends here ….. or do the weakened Republicans smell blood? I have lost all notions that the talking heads will remember what it is like to be a “journalist” and continue to dig. Will Obama’s house of cards tumble, or will he be able to desparately hold on to his image as a “transformative” President? It’s playing out like a soap opera.

See what a “$200.00” contribution can buy you. A Gov., a Sen. and a Pres.

  89. polo, on December 9th, 2008 at 11:32 am

lolol! Barry DOESN”T offer anything when he has what he wants. It’s up to Jesse Jr to pony up if he wants that seat.

  90. polo, no one has claimed anything against Obama.

You remind me of the line in All The President’s Men: “They said he wasn’t involved in Watergate, when I didn’t ask about Watergate.”

  91. DJ:

    Excellent point!

    Who was Blago negotiating with?

  92. plural, on December 9th, 2008 at 11:36 am

    lol…funny cause it’s true

  93. No one succeeds within the Chicago Machine without being corrupt. No-one. I hope Blago sings an entire opera….

  94. Poor, poor Obama. Sigh, what a swell guy, having to put up with all those crooks and thugs around him. As soon as he leaves IL, corruption rears its ugly head. Having to deal with all the Wrights, Blagojevichs, Fr Pleghers, Rezkos, Farrakhans must be exhausting. How does he manage to stay above the fray?

Think this is sarcasm? The sympathy for the Mighty Clean Obama will be in full bawl by tonight or Wed morning, I betcha. Where are my darn hankies?

  95. Here in Massachusetts we have a state legislator being arrested by the FBI for corruption. She is shown on tape stuffing bribe money into her bra. Let it be said that she is now crying that she has been “set up”. How she will manage to explain the tape and the bra as a set up remains to be seen.

But I give these crooks credit for invention. I am sure Blag will be equally inventive in claiming a “set up” regardless of what those tapes reveal. They are all the same.

  96. I always bet on Fitz.

  97. Pat Johnson, on December 9th, 2008 at 11:41 am Said: How she will manage to explain the tape and the bra as a set up remains to be seen….

Sleep walking? That’s always a good one. lol!

  98. parentofed: Me too. Unless he is replaced.

  99. Pat: Maybe Jon Favreau groped her, and stuffed the money in her bra.

  100. The symbol for Polo is a pony, did you get yours?

  101. parentofed: LOL!! There you go, a perfect excuse! And this nimrod was under investigation for other things besides the one she was charged with which only goes to show, like Blag, they don’t give a damn!

  102. Gore didn’t stand up for Hillary during the delegate theft because Gore was an early Obama supporter and unofficial advisor to Obama’s campaign.

I want to say that Obama wouldn’t dare get rid of Fitzgerald, but then we are talking Obama here and the compliant press.

We’ve been waiting for Reszko to sing for a while now – still waiting. Let’s see what if anything Blagojevich gives us.

  103. I love how how I’ve written letters to the ed for 8 yrs decrying the Culture of Corruption in the Bush admin, and now the Dems are making them look like friggin amateurs.
Now I write letters to the ed decrying ObamaCo and the Dems. The whole damn area thinks I’m schizo.

  104. Unless he is facing serious jail time, and I am not sure of what that means for this offense, Blag may just have another “fund raiser” to bail him out of any fines imposed. He can live with a slap on the wrist and probably run for office once again.

Jefferson did it in LA, Delay and Stevens went for it as well. These people have no shame. If Rove can appear nightly on cable tv offering opinions, there really is no bottom to corruption. Business as usual.

  105. You are so right Pat, it is no damn wonder people fell all over themselves for the hopey changey garbage. We have been spoon fed corruption for the past 8 years.

  106. Ill. Gov. arrested in Obama successor probe

Blagojevich also was charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in the sale of Wrigley Field, according to a federal criminal complaint. In return for state assistance, Blagojevich allegedly wanted members of the paper’s editorial board who had been critical of him fired.

A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.

Atleast he wanted to share with his wife.

  107. Afrocity,

Rezko stopped singing after Obama got elected. He’s expecting a pardon and so is Bago.

  108. In a conversation with Harris on November 11, the charges state, Blagojevich said he knew
that the President-elect wanted Senate Candidate 1 for the open seat but “they’re not willing to give
me anything except appreciation. (Expletive) them.”

  109. All we have left is moral indignation. Not that it amounts to much. We are outnumbered by those who could care less.

OJ pranced around for 14 years with people still begging for his autograph. Michael Jackson was offered a venue in Las Vegas. You can out a CIA agent and be offered space in a national news mag and a chance to appear on tv as an “expert”. Bush still has his fan base and Rumsfeld is leading a think tank in DC.

Where most of us would slink out of sight, these idiots are paraded and well paid for their efforts. Go figure.

  110. Polo:

You get paid to spread Obama talking points, so go spread them somewhere else.

  111. Polo @11:55 said:

  112. polo is funny. He/she is desparately trying to spin the stink away from Obama.

  113. As I predicted, the trolls are out in force today.

Talking point #1 comes from “polo”

  114. DYB, on December 9th, 2008 at 11:46 am Said:

Gore didn’t stand up for Hillary during the delegate theft because Gore was an early Obama supporter and unofficial advisor to Obama’s campaign.

Really? I thought Gore didn’t officially endorse Obama until weeks after Clinton suspended her campaign. It didn’t surprise me that he did not stand up for Hillary because Gore is keeping his hands clean. He went from a loser in 2000 to a Nobel Peace Prize winner and someone who is revered by progressives and Democrats. He is not going to jeopardize his current status by getting involved with any political infighting nor does he want any part in the Obama administration. I always saw Gore as a lukewarm Obama supporter. He came out a few times for Obama early on after Clinton suspended her campaign but I haven’t really seen him since.

  115. geez.

well, if anything we can see why we need reporters and papers like the Trib and the Times….

    geez.

  116. I also think Gore would’ve also been a lukewarm supporter of Hillary if she had won the nomination. Gore was apathetic about this election in general. He wasn’t enthusiastic about Obama and I think he and the Clintons still aren’t on good terms. He wasn’t going to fight for anyone in this election.

  117. If Obama wasn’t willing to “pay to play” it’s because he’s too cheap, not too honest.

  118. “In other words, they freaking knew he wanted something in return, yet they didn’t out him.”

Yeah, it’s funny how they overlook that point. Obama didn’t offer anything other than “appreciation” to get Valerie Jarrett (the likely Candidate #1) his old job not out of some implied “virtue”, but because he didn’t have to. Blago was in a bad negotiating position. Obama had the new job he wanted and he could take Jarrett to DC with him and make her a close advisor and bide their time.

  119. Gore has said he’s a “recovering politician,” which I think is a good description.

  120. myiq2xu you are truly low class.

Obama is honest. You are a bitter social reject

  121. Grain of salt, because well, it’s Drudge, but he’s reporting:

GRAND JURY SUBPOENAS ISSUED ON REZKO/OBAMA LAND DEAL

  122. Boston,

I know this city like the back of my booty. It does not work that way. BO will screw them over and they will sing. I would not be surprised if one of them ended up dead by “suicide”. George Ryan turned on them with that death penalty stuff. Expect the same or worse. You don’t want to think about Alex Giannoulias which is another name I expect to come up.

  125. LMAO at the faith-based initiative called polo’s Obama spin. Obama repeatedly lies, lies, lies. but he’s HONEST, really, truly, he is, deep down…..becuz I BELIEVE he is, despite all evidence to the contrary.

  126. Fitzgerald news conference on now all news channels

  127. polo thinks Obama is honest because he gets PAID to believe Obama is honest.

  128. go away Obama boyz send your paid bloggers elsewhere.

  129. It’s is amusing seeing the beginnings of the troll campaign to try and spin this in Obama’s favor. Their mythologizing and hero worship knows no bounds.

  130. Oh, good, now polo is insulting Hillary.

    That was inevitable.

  131. New thread up!

  132. I think we should just rename Blagovich into Doucheblagovich. The man is lower than pond scum. The worst sort of politician. How many times have we seen the so called reformers be the ones who are corrupt to the bone?

Anyway, here is a link to my new blog. I am tired of bloviating in so many threads leaving posts that are gargantuan.

My new blog Sleek and Meek: http://gillianboardman.wordpress.com/. I still plan on spending most of my day here, at LR, Cannonfire, GaryChapelHill’s, etc. Thanks, Gregoryp.

  133. Ahhh, there it is, the “hag” word. It seems we have a frat boy in our midst.

Someone please appropriately edit polo’s comments. “Moooom! I’m out of clean underwear!” might be nice.

  134. polo is done here.

    Buh-bye now!

  135. Yes sir-ree, they are honest. I mean we all know that one day (a few days after Obama won the seat in the senate) it was discovered that there was a bright shining star who deserved a raise of more than 30% because she was smart, sweet and deserved it (how dare anyone imply that this happened because she was the wife of the new senator). That happens all the time, as a matter of fact, I am sitting here in my office anxiously awaiting my 30% raise. I also think that if I wish hard enough upon a star someone will come along and offer me a helping hand to buy a beautiful million dollar house, cause I just so damn nice.

    Sell me a f%^king bridge.

  136. Downticket: I thought Tedd Kennedy had already started the bidding on the NY Senate seat…

and I just put a new thread up

  137. Re: Gore> I’d seen numerous references to Gore throughout the primaries and that he was unofficially advising Obama. I remember reading in the NY Times in March of 2008 Obama saying that he had spoken to Gore just the week before. And later Obama said he spoke to Gore every couple of weeks. And I recall reading about some interview (or perhaps it was some conference in Europe) Gore gave in 2007 in which he said he was very unlikely to endorse Hillary.

  138. […] myiq2xu at The Confluence’s Illinois Governor Blagojevich Arrested. […]

  139. Bit of live blogging of the press conference being held by US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.

  140. Imagine how refreshing it would be to know that all public servants enjoy the same integrity of a Patrick Fitzgerald.

Did anyone else pick up the fact that Dick Durbin has petitioned Obama to intervene in the sentence of Gov Ryan who has only served one year so far of his 6 yr term? Interesting. It seems these crooks all are in bed together since Ryan is a Repub.

  141. Fitz had to indict now before Blag and O sold the Senate seat. You go nowhere fast if you do not play in Illinois politics. Blag did not think Fitz dared to indict since O won. Also correct me if I am hallucinating but I recall that O said he would leave Fitz in place. George and the Justice Dept need to leave O a little parting gift and appoint Fitz special counsel like was done in the Libby case. This is going to turn into the biggest rats nest law enforcement has ever had to deal with.

  142. There’s a troll over at ButtBurger whining that I won’t let him post anything here.

    Awwwwww, poor little sub-human!

  143. The Chicago Sun Times piece on Blago could be called a primer on corrupt democratic politics – you couldn’t make this stuff up.

Everything we suspected about corrupt politicians is there to read.

Along with the uncontrollable anger and humiliation I feel, have to admit some actions of these corrupt democratic Chicago politicians is hilarious.

I expect Jessie Jackson, Jr. is somewhere in that mix of candidates vying for Obama’s seat as he has been campaigning to replace O.

  144. Re: Sen. Durbin-D and ex. Gov. Ryan-R – yeah, politics does make bi-partisan bedfellows.

  145. I did not have fiscal relations with that governor.

  146. If Obama wasn’t willing to “pay to play” it’s because he’s too cheap, not too honest.

Egg-zactly. Note that he is not helping out any state parties or candidates with the $30 million he’s got left over from the campaign. He’s such a team player (NOT).

By this time, media reports indicated that Senate Candidate 1, an advisor to the President-elect, was interested in the Senate seat if it became vacant, and was likely to be supported by the President-elect.

Who do you suppose this is? I’m thinking JJ,Jr.

  147. Pat I am going to really mourn the day that Fitzgerald has to move on from his post. He has been a credit to our government. Hopefully, Obama will retain him and appoint many more just like him. I am so tired of not having the best of the best hold offices in our government. I am so past ready for Bush to go away so our government can function properly again.

    Gregoryp

  148. Looks like Calypso and I are on the same wavelength.

  149. On a totally unrelated note does anybody have any idea how to keep a 5 month old kitten out of a christmas tree?

Probably as difficult as keeping a Blagojevich’s hand out of a cookie jar. I guess predators will be predators.

  150. Makes you feel really good about things. To know that all our senators and congress people are doing their job because they think so highly of us. I stated some time ago…our government employees should all be removed and we start all over again. What a sad situation.

  151. maybe just maybe obama cooperated in outing the gov. that way fitz would be concentrating on the gov and obama would look clean.there is that to consider.

i am amazed that the gov didn’t know the bus was coming to gov’s mansion for his new home.

  152. I’ m still BITTER, but does anybody here secertly hope Jessie Jackson, Jr. is sweating bullets on that “money exchange thingy”?

  153. Think this is sarcasm? The sympathy for the Mighty Clean Obama will be in full bawl by tonight or Wed morning, I betcha. Where are my darn hankies?

    Jesus, I love you ppl.

Nothing to report. Just rubbernecking like everyone else. Thanks for the on the ground reports, afrocity (and others).

  154. Oh Jill, I have a fear that our two 6 month old kittens will be having a ball in our tree after we put it up this weekend.

  155. Jill,

You could put a little bit of water in a misting bottle and give him or her a little spritz every time (s)he goes near the tree. Or you could secure the tree by tying it to the wall or woodwork and put unbreakable ornaments on it. My three year old cat drives me crazy while I’m decorating the tree, but leaves it alone once it’s done. Her predecessor climbed the tree the first year, but it fell over on her, and she never did it again.

  156. Jill – Good luck. Really. You’re gonna need it. Best you can do is secure your tree somehow so it doesn’t topple over. Unless, of course, you want to stay awake from now until Christmas.

  157. Oh. And No Tinsel. Evil stuff for kittehs.

  158. Is he a Dino-crapic party member?
