Right, with the ban on Huawei using chips made with American manufacturing equipment (one of America’s last few places of absolute advantage); the bans of TikTok, Tencent and WeChat; the attempt to convince other countries to not use Huawei 5G; the arrest of the Huawei founder’s daughter for doing business with Iran along with the […]

Hide In Your Shell

  1. Grrrrr – and I was just headed to bed with images of Natalie on my mind. One last check of the home page and now Supertramp is stuck there.

Thanks a lot. And good night mister.

(I got bogged down over at youtube, btw, and ended up bawling my eyes out over the Roy Orbison/k.d. lang version of “crying”).

  2. I once had a lost weekend in Iowa with a couple professors who were into Elvis and there was something in there about the pronunciation of Cry as “ca-rye” by an early artist, and how the pornunciation was picked up by Elvis and how Big Mama Thornton’s version of Hound Dog was lacking in sophistication because it lacked nuances about third world colonialism.

This sounds like supermarket music. Or maybe it’s just the laptop. I need some good speakers for the laptop, maybe something I can use in class.

  3. Roy Orbison, Crying

  4. Nijima:

    Don’t blaspheme!

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  5. “Hide in your shell cuz the world is out to bleed you for a ride
What will you gain making your life a little longer?
Heaven or hell, was the journey cold that gave your eyes of steel?
Shelter behind painting your mind and playing joker”

  6. Ah, well, clearly the lyrics are superior to the arrangement. Or maybe it’s those speakers.
The definitive Johnnie Ray recording of Cry: pronounced “curr-rye”

This guy was very much in the closet, but kept popping out.

But this performance of “Cry” is not to be missed:

The coldness of the journey matters less than how you deal with it. What “the world” is out to do matters less than what you are out to do–probably not the most welcome thought for most lawyers..

  8. (I’ll get past the stupid filters yet.)

Johnnie Ray was very much in the closet, but kept popping out (like in public bathrooms with undercover cops).

  9. But this performance of “Cry” is not to be missed, it cracked me up:

The coldness of the journey matters less than how you deal with it. What “the world” is out to do matters less than what you are out to do–probably not the most welcome thought for most lawyers..

  10. ah, here’s the Roy Orbison/KD Lang Crying duet.

  11. and, myiq, I don’t care for your new avatar that much either.

It should be either cute or eeeevil, but his one just needs a shave.
