Everyone remember the Panama papers? A leak of bank records showing that the ultra-rich are hiding massive wealth, tax-free and often breaking the law to do so? A rather weak set of laws designed to allow tax avoidance by rich people, at that. Found out the other day that the reporter who broke the Panama Papers story was killed by a car bomb. Saturday: The Battle for First Seven Year Old

Piper “Snow Princess” Palin redistributes her candy wealth:

Sasha Obama not quite so crowd friendly (H/T BreitBart):

AP: Democrat Barack Obama got annoyed with the media Friday as he tried to walk down a Chicago street with his 7-year-old daughter, Sasha, who was dressed up in a shiny costume for Halloween. A pool of national photographers, reporters and a video crew traveling with Obama quickly covered the spontaneous moment. “All right guys, that’s enough,” said Obama, wearing a casual outfit and sunglasses in the early evening. He and his daughter were walking right toward the media on a public street. “You got a shot,” he told the photographers. “Leave us alone. Come on, guys.”

Hmmm, this one is close.  They’re both cute as buttons.  But I’m going to give the edge to Piper.  The camera loves her.

I am waiting for the last kid to go home so I can get out of here and get on the road to Scranton, PA where I hope to meet up with Harriet Christian and her posse from Manhattan.  Someone needs to document the event.  Moi!

In the meantime, here is a wrap of interesting stuff from around the web:

  • Anglachel (we need to forgive) has an ominous post about discrimination of women in the workplace based on pregnancy in Reproduction of Culture.  We really don’t want to go down this road but I don’t see Obama’s present slash and burn campaign tactics as being conducive to a more female friendly work environment.  The misogyny genie has been released.  Not good.  Not good at all.
  • Zogby reports that in the latest 3-day tracking poll, McCain outpolled Obama by 48% to 47%.  It’s Zogby, so take it with a grain of salt.  Still, veddy interesting…
  • Joseph Cannon explores Obama’s murky past, his friendships with wealthy Pakistanis and his possible ties with the CIA.  Where *did* all that money come from when he was in college?  Was he working for the CIA?  Of course, that is probably not what happened.  I mean, the only people I knew who hung around with Pakistanis back then were selling hash, not hanging with the spooks. (Spooks in this case meaning CIA operatives.  Jeez, you have to clarify *everything* these days.)  But when it comes to conspiracies about the CIA or conspiracies about selling hash, both are just entertaining thought experiments.  Probably neither of them true.  Probably.

“We’re not ones to go around spreading rumors.  No, really we’re just not the gossiping kind.  You’ll never hear one of us repeating gossip.  So, you’d better be sure to listen close the first time.”

One more thing: I lifted this from PUMAPac, but I don’t think murphy minds.  I love the shot of Toulouse, France.  I went there last year on business and it’s beautiful.  The buildings are made of rose colored brick so they call it the pink city.

  2. Prolix: Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

  3. Last night Obama delivered no treats for the Washington Times, NY Post or The Dallas Morning news,, Here’s a commentary from our own Kirsten Powers: http://www.nypost.com/seven/11012008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/a_nixonesque_move_from_team_obama_136286.htm

  4. OT. An eBay seller has Cabbage Patch Kids of Palin, McCain, Obama and Biden. The current bid on the Palin doll is $5,100. The bid on the Obama doll is $1,325.

  5. Pipper is such a doll. I was watching Gretta V.S. last night and she was on the bus with SP and family. They showed clips of Pipper t-or-t in the local town, going from house to house in a neighborhood, I think they Mayors, but not sure. It was yet another great interview, and yet another shout out to Hillary from SP.

  6. RD, probably not exactly the same given that I was not the host of a sleep over, but beyond that, I think so.

  7. The importance of the Zogby poll is not the 1 point difference, but the fact that Obama is at 48% and Obama very seldom out votes his top numbers. The other bright side this morning is a poll that has Pennsylvania now down to only 4 points. This is fast approaching the margin of error, with Obama needing a massive vote out of Philadelphia. That might not even do it if McCain gets a massive vote out of western Pennsylvania. Here in Texas the lillywhite suburbs of Denton and Collin counties are voting in record numbers. I only use the term “white” because the media is reporting record numbers of AA voters in the Dallas area. At least here in Texas, it now appears that race is going to play some part in the final results.

the illegal contribution is one issue.
Obama HIDING her is entirely another!
I never heard him mention Auntie in Boston.

  9. It’s the brown shirt element. They like attacking people far more than they are for Obama. If fact their biggest reason to be for Obama is he greenlights what they want to do already. Thses people want to do anything and still have the moral” highground ” .That’s why they love labeling us as rac#st as they whale on the elderly guy

  10. What is his Auntie doing living like that? I’m thinking Auntie might be suddenly too ill to see people….and by the way how is Barry’s grandmother?

  11. Another email this morning:
This is an explanation about the Obama campaign claim that the tax breaks were only for the rich Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
    The fifth would pay $1.
    The sixth would pay $3.
    The seventh would pay $7.
    The eighth would pay $12.
    The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank
in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the
arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.
‘Since you are all such good customers, he said,
‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by
$20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay!

And so: The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $ 49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first
four continued to drink for free. But once outside the
restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

‘I only got a dollar out of the $20,’declared the
sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,’ but he got
‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘I only saved a dollar, too.
It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’
‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’

‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks,
so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college
professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction.
Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

  12. What is his Auntie doing living like that?
Don’t worry about Auntie-if she’s in the Old Colony housing,
it’s not a bad place at all.
It’s a relatively safe development with lots of services for the sick and elderly, and it’s across the street from a sandy beach.

I just wonder why the Obamas aren’t putting her up in one of the many guestrooms in their Chicago mansion…

  13. I know, I know, last night was for jokes but I just got this and had to pass it along:
Snow White, Superman, and Pinocchio are walking in the street when they come across a sign
‘Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world.’
‘I am entering,’ said Snow White. After half an hour she comes out and they ask her, ‘Well, how was it?
    First Place’, answers Snow White.

They continue walking and they see a sign:
‘Contest for the strongest man in the world.’
‘I’m entering,’ says Superman and after half an hour he returns and they ask him, ‘How was it?’
    First Place,’ answers Superman.

They continue walking when they see a sign:
‘Contest! Who is the greatest liar in the world’
Pinocchio enters. After half an hour he returns with a long nose and tears in his eyes.
    ‘What happened?’ they asked,
‘Who is this guy Obama?’ asked Pinocchio.
    badump bump 🙂

  14. Ok, I went to wordpress and ‘reestablished” my kid gravatar – what happened to her?

  15. Joanelle: The problem with that scenario is that 1.) Poor people *do* pay a greater portion of their income in taxes. There’s social security and sales taxes. Taxes on consumption are not taxes that poor people can avoid but they take a bigger chunk of a poor person’s income than a rich person’s income. 2.) The rich benefit from government much more than the poor do. They benefit from the physical, regulatory and financial infrastructure that makes doing business on a large scale possible. 3.) How many beers can one person consume??? This is the thing that gets overlooked. Maybe we should reassess whether there is a limit to how much money a person can hoard for themselves. This was the whole point behind the estate tax. Should superrich people be allowed to hand down so much of their money to their descendants, setting up a permanent, moneyed aristocracy whose behavior and obligations are outside the limits we put on regular average people? The rich will say that is class warfare. Um, yep, the rich themselves have been practicing it for years. It’s time we common folk stopped being so polite about it.

  16. GOP Internal Polls (NJ, CA, MI, PA) Show Possible Landslide for McCain

There are two Americas all right. Obama, the media, and ACORN in one. The American people in the other.

This may not even be close.

Thank you! I feel better( for Auntie) knowing that it’s even that good.

  18. Good morning all!

Here’s a little walk down memory lae re: Dear Leader’s ability to close the deal.

    Remember this…

    Tuesday, January 08, 2008

The final Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in New Hampshire’s Democratic Presidential Primary shows Barack Obama leading Hillary Clinton 37% to 30%.

The Illinois Senator enjoys a more than 2-to-1 advantage among Independent voters likely to vote in the Democratic Primary.

That’s right, Obama got thumped in New Hampshire and in PA and Ohio!

We all know most of the polls are skewed to favor Obama and inflate his actual support, New Hampshire was a perfect example!

    So do not be discouraged!

Obama couldn’t close the deal in New Hampshire against Hillary Clinton.

PUMAs are real and are making a difference in key states like PA & Ohio!

The internal polling numbers are looking good in the key swing states.

    McCain-Palin ‘08 !! You betcha!!

BTW, Obama looks like the thug he is in that video. Me thinks his Chicago style of politics is backfiring with mainstream America!

  19. riverdaughter, at 11:17 am Said

    Thank you.

  20. wdupray –

Those numbers look very good. If the momentum continues for McCain-Palin, especially in the key states, Obama is going to lose! It’s the PUMA factor and the fact that Obama can’t close the deal.

Obama got caught measuring the drapes and the American people are going to pull the rug right out from underneath his radical arse!!

I’m NOBAMA and I approve this message because like McCain-Palin and Hillary say, America is worth fighting for and I choose Country First!!

  21. StateofDisbelief, are you there?

  22. “Obama HIDING her is entirely another!”

He probably didn’t even know where she was, let alone cared.

RD -For the tax scheme, why isn’t it adjusted by region, i.e. what is “rich” in my neck of the woods is hardly a drop in the bucket in NYC.? ..just wondering.

  23. I’m about to run out the door for a couple of hours but, just as I was turning off the TV a 527 ad came on. It was the first Reverend Wright ad I’ve seen. I thought we’d be seeing them all through October.

I wonder if it will make any difference. It sure sounds ugly….

  24. ‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

I’m a staunch supporter of the estate tax (I’m a tax preparer, so I hope my clients aren’t reading this)

What I don’t support is the “beating up” of guy number 10.
    And that’s all too real!

  25. Forgive Anglachel? Was there an apology for or a retraction of what she said?

If Obama had a sense of humor he would have worn a costume as well: he would have gone trick-or-treating as Jesus! But him telling reporters off for taking pictures – he’s really treating the press with so much contempt I’m astounded they’re so agreeable after all this time. Perhaps it’s taking a while to sink in…and then they’ll treat him the way they treated the Clintons.

  26. Ha ha, Riverdaughter. You betcha. But just how did Obama pay for Columbia and Harvard anyway? And if he really had student loans, how the heck did he pay them off so quickly and still buy that fancy mansion in Hyde Park? It sure would be interesting to find out. Too bad we don’t have any enterprising reporters in this country anymore. They do still have some in Great Britain though.

  27. riverdaughter, on November 1st, 2008 at 11:17 am

Excellent post . We have been told for years to be nice to the rich, the company , or the boss, or they will take their business else where…well guess what? They will anyway . We are told to lay off or else…while the” else” is coming down the pike regardless. Saying behave or else is a way to keep us busy as they get their ducks in a row. The lower $$ orders actions doesn’t come into play …..besides the pitchforth level ,
which the upper crust seem to be insisting on pushing us .

  28. Hey Katiebird,

Thanks for the 527 update. I think those ads do work at the end. Remember how Kerry was supposedly leading right before the election in 2004? I hope they play Rev. Wright 24/7 in Ohio, Iowa, and PA.

It’s really quite a decent place-I have older musician friends who live there. It’s public housing, for sure, but it’s hardly the crime-ridden ghetto the media is selling. Nothing like the South Side of Chicago..
But it’s definitely not as swanky as Hyde Park.
Maybe a petition for BO and MO to take Aunty to Chicago
to live happily ever after is in order.
    any signers???

  30. BB: He probably paid for college with a lot of bake sales. That’s my guess anyway. Did I mention I am a contemporary of Obama’s?

I saw them for the first time here in TX, yesterday morning.

  32. The problem with that scenario is that 1.) Poor people *do* pay a greater portion of their income in taxes. There’s social security and sales taxes. Taxes on consumption are not taxes that poor people can avoid but they take a bigger chunk of a poor person’s income than a rich person’s income.

Well, perhaps the poor pay more in taxes, in terms of proportion of income than the rich, but they certainly don’t pay more than the middle class. The middle class — which let’s just define for the moment as those who earn less than the social security maximum — pay every bit as much for SS as the poor, very likely as much on sales tax, but also pay significant income tax. In terms of who pays the highest proportion of their income to taxes, it’s the upper middle class. The genuinely rich pay less proportionately because SS maxes out at $102K a year, and because sales tax affects them less.

Of course, even this analysis depends on taking SS as a genuine tax, rather than as a contribution, in effect, to one’s own retirement.

While of course the Democratic Party almost always insists (except when it’s politically inconvenient for a particular argument, such as when Republicans want to show how much overall we pay in taxes under Democratic plans) that SS is a “tax”, it can be seen in other ways — as is likewise true for Medicare deductions, and, potentially, in the future, for NHC deductions.

Maybe it’s time for us all to use the occasion of our alienation from our former party to go back to basics and rethink our own views on these matters, independent of political spin.

  33. rd, twice now in the last week your posts have lifted me up past all this crap of the election season with the beauty and power of music. First, the Mozart opera piece and now today’s Stand By Me. Thank you for the reminders of beauty in this world. We sure do need it.

  34. People have been asking what we should do after the election. One idea for consideration, regardless of who wins, is that we should demand investigations into the illegal campaign donations and voter fraud perpetrated during the primary and the general election. This should never happen again. And the DNC must be held accountable for the mockery they made of democracy during the primaries. The caucus system has got to go or needs to be strictly enforced (photo IDs and Dem registration required).

  35. Anglachel (we need to forgive) has an ominous post about discrimination of women in the workplace based on pregnancy in Reproduction of Culture. We really don’t want to go down this road but I don’t see Obama’s present slash and burn campaign tactics as being conducive to a more female friendly work environment.

Do you remember back in February when Michelle Obama was speaking at rally’s trying to convince women to NOT go to work in the corporate world? That changed my mind about her and got me thinking about who Obama was working for right then.

  36. frankly: Tell me about it. As a person reaching that SS limit, I pay out the wazoo in taxes. I pay more in taxes than my mother earns in income from pensions and SS.
There are some things about taxation I like and don’t like. For example, I think Social Security is a brilliant program that redistributes risk and is an insurance program, not an entitlement. I am in favor of supporting this program as completely as possible because so many people benefit, the overhead his low and the cost is affordable. When you start working, you are automatically enrolled in a retirement insurance program. LOVE it!!!
OTOH, I hate to piss you married people off but I am getting sick and tired of subsidizing you. As a divorced single parent, I split deductions with my ex-spouse and my taxes immediately jumped after my divorce ins spite of the fact that my cost of living nearly doubled. That just pisses me off to no end. I would love the extra bucks that married get and I *never* qualify for the tax rebates and other extra perks that married people got during the Bush years. That stimulus check from the summer? Didn’t come to this household. Gay couples must be a little ticked at this as well. It’s not like the government lowered the cost of housing, food, clothing, etc. We still have to pay ridiculous prices for everything. It’s just that we’re expected to settle for less. I make a lot of money but I live in NJ with high property taxes and high income taxes. I live in a fricking townhouse with an unfinished basement and I drive a second hand car. This is not the lap of luxury and I am at a loss to understand how it is that married couples deserve lower taxes AND don’t have to split the child dependent deductible and Head of Household thing. They have a lot of nerve to complain about a marriage penalty while they drive around in the newest model Lexus SUV.
Ok, getting down from my soapbox.

  37. I agree, both little girls are absolutely adorable. But Piper is a bright star. She is just one of those kids who shine.

  38. CHICAGO (AP) – Democrat Barack Obama got annoyed with the media Friday as he tried to walk down a Chicago street with his 7-year-old daughter, Sasha, who was dressed up in a shiny costume for Halloween.

“You got a shot,” he told the photographers. “Leave us alone. Come on, guys.”

He told the media to get back on the bus, referring to the vehicle where the traveling press pool often waits for him.

Obama then crossed the street with Sasha. At least one video cameraman who was not part of Obama’s traveling press corps followed him for a while. Obama grew visibly irritated.

He and his daughter then began jogging, and even running, to get away from the media.

They ended up out of sight at a friend’s house, where they were headed all along.

In a final dash for the presidency, Obama stopped into Chicago specifically to spend some time on Halloween with his family, including his other daughter, Malia, who is 10.

my favorite part: “he told the media to get back on the bus.”

  39. “BostonBoomer”

I “believe” his “1st” mentor Frank M Davis had something to do with his early financing. Remember if his momma was on food stamps how did he travel all over Indonesia & Pakastan
    as a college student?

Please…Please… get these videos to the media.
    Yes, Piper is ADORABLE!
But poor Sasha was denied even talking to those other children in the street. Obama acted like such an A*S!
The public needs to see that.
As I REPEATEDLY said to Hillary’s campaign; I judge my candidates in the “UN-SCRIPTED” moments.
Well last night on Greta Palin got 1 step closer to my vote!
They were so natural & how Todd & She looked @ each other………..WOW!
All those liberal woman are JEALOUS, because Sarah has achieved the balance in life, that their all strive to obtain.

“WAY to GO SARAH (Paula) / way to go”!

  40. If McCain and Palin win .. the gilrs can play together and talk about the campaigns on play dates !!!!

lets do it for the KIDS!!!! 😉

  41. I am feeling fairly good about Tuesday. In an hour I am heading out for phone banking – which I hate to do – we’re calling Nevada today. A few Pumas are going to the McCain HQ for a couple hours then having lunch. A few Pumas are are already in Nevada kicking some tail.

Lower Taxes and stop all the wasteful spending. The movie “Dave” used to be one of my favorite movies — his tax account friend comes in and helps him cut the budget. WTF — when I want something – I save for it then buy it. I never buy something on credit if I can’t pay that bill at the end of the month. I go without. As a country we need to do the same.

RD — I absolutely love your posts !!!

BTW — I am a god-mother today – Anna Bella Rose was born this morning around 2:30 out in Iowa. I will make sure she’s a Puma Cub !!!!

  42. Paper Doll

Auntie Z is about to be thrown under the bus:

“Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed,” Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said in a written statement given to FOX News.

    What a heartless lying prick.

“Senator Obama has NO KNOWLEDGE of his Aunt’s status.”

Are you serious!! No knowledge eh?

Obama and his campaign thugs – bunch of liars!!

  44. “I am my brother’s keeper.” LMAO!

  45. “Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status…”
Oh my, Auntie just got the “that’s not the person I knew” treatment.

  46. The problem that I have with the estate tax is this: What is “rich”? I live in the DC metro area. The cost of housing around here is outrageous. That means that my mother’s home which she paid $33,000 for 40 years ago is now worth close to a million dollars. Lowering the estate tax would seriously affect my inheritance. And I’m just middle class. My inheritance would not make me “rich” by any stretch of the imagination. It would just give me money for retirement and to help my son buy a house. My mother is regular people (81 and still working full time), I’m regular people (my son, DIL and grandson live with us) and my son is regular people (works full time and just this month is finally eligible for a health insurance plan that won’t even cover his wife’s pre-existing RA). So, sorry, I’m fine with taxing the super rich but in my experience it is ALWAYS the middle class who end up getting burned by these tax laws. The super rich have lawyers to figure out how to shield their money.

And, please note, I’m a liberal Dem so I have no problem with taxes and paying my share and I totally support programs that help the needy. I just think it’s the middle class who will ultimately be screwed by an estate tax.

  47. catarina –

LOL! WOW! That statement is even worse!! Such a statement by the Obama campaign is absolutely laughable and obvioulsy, a total lie about his knowledge of his Aunt’s status.

And even worse, it shows Obama has knowledge of the law and yet, he has been an accomplice in allowing his Aunt to live here illegally.

Obama took his Aunt’s ILLEGAL campaign donations and never returned the illegal money.

That’s Barry’s pattern = illegal behavior and then deny any knowledge of it.

  48. Ooops. I should have said I USED to be a liberal Dem, now I’m just a liberal. (Old habits die hard.)

  49. Somenoe needs to help his Aunt. Obama has left her, like most of the people in Chicago, in the ditch!

Obama is not his brother’s or sister’s keeper…he’s the grim reaper!

  50. tpt/ny: The notable thing about Piper vs Sasha is that it looks like Piper is having a normal childhood. Sure, it’s lived out in front of a camera but she tags along with mom, she trick or treats, she takes care of her baby brother. I’m amazed at how kid friendly her life looks.
Sasha on the other hand, looks like the typical micromanaged suburban kid. No contact with other children unless it is strictly monitored and on a treadmill of planned activities that keep her busy from morning to night. We don’t see much of the Obama kids. It’s nice that she went trick or treating with her dad but why didn’t she go out with her sister with a bunch of Secret Service goons tagging along?
I see kids like Sasha all of the time. They’re raised like hothouse tomatoes in a strictly monitored, perfect environment where there are few spontaneous interactions with people outside of her parent’s network of church, business or municipal soccer league connections.
Maybe that’s why Malia and Sasha seem so flavorless and Piper so delicious.

  51. tpt/ny,

There is no evidence for those claims you are making. At least Joseph Cannon has some circumstantial evidence for his hypotheses. You can say that you suspect that Obama got money from al Mansour, but there is simply no evidence.

I think it’s very likely that Obama met Bill Ayers at Columbia and that Ayers got him interested in the community organizing gig in Chicago. But I can’t prove it. I can’t state it as fact.

And the things you state as fact are speculative also. What we need is a real investigation, and the only way for that to happen is for journalists with lots of resources to do it or for the legal system to do it.

Let’s just hope Obama loses and we don’t have to worry about it anymore.

  52. wdupray, my husband has been saying since January that this will be a blowout so there’s a part of me that thinks you just may be right.

  53. How many times can he get away with the claim:

  54. Backtrack owns the media therefore he has no respect for them.
We have lost all respect for them because they no longer deserve it.
Piper is a doll. It seems to me she was raised to like people and get along with all people.
Sacha is also a doll. But she is being raised to fear and dislike people. That is sad.

  55. Why does the bulk of this info have to come out in the foreign media? Our press won’t do it’s job!

  56. So, let me get this straight. He is either in denial about his aunt’s status OR he is in denial about his aunt, period. Not a family guy or not particularly concerned that his aunt is about to get a visit from the INS?
Heartless or “heartless”? Not sure that there was a way out of this one for him but he should have tried a bit harder, just because she’s family anyway.

  57. A couple of things from other blogs regarding Auntie:

    1) One if she was told to get out, why is she still here.

    2) If she is illegal, the courts know it, then why did she receive public assistance with housing.

    3) Auntie told the press that she can’t discuss anything until ‘after the election’.

    4) The Bush administration, yes the Bush Administration put out an order that no one can be deported until they go throught the Director of Immigration. So Geo. W. is helping Obama!?!

    5) Obama camp to Auntie to say nothing, so therefore Obama is aiding and abetting an illegal.

    6) Auntie gave $260.00 to Obama campaign to which Obama’s camp accepted , accepted an illegal contribution because Auntie is an illegal alien.

Just one of the many hmmms to mull over days before an election.

“Senator Obama has NO KNOWLEDGE of his Aunt’s status.”

Geez Louise! Senator Obama has no knowledge of what he had for breakfast this morning… until he figures out how to spin it.

I’m so fed up with this big empty FAKE that I could scream.

  59. Riverdaughter,

What can you expect from a man who never even visted his mom during the months when she was undergoing chemotherapy and dying of cancer. He was too busy raising money and running for state senate. I wonder if he even called her on the phone?

  60. I have not commented here in months, but here I go (so pile on, but maybe think about what I say, too):
You people are unbelievable. I was a Hillary supporter too, but dear God, you are going to vote for McCain?! Piper is cute! Who gives a s***. You people are not liberals. You and the creeps at NoQuarter are just amazing: “Let’s have four more years of insane rule because we didn’t get our woman in!” Hillary has been working hard for Obama for a reason. THIS ALL MATTERS. Those of you who vote for McCain/Palin are as bad as the DailyKos and Josh Marshall during the primaries. You don’t actually believe in anything but your own hurt feelings.
By the way: The Democrats always raise taxes. Taxes ARE a form of wealth distribution! The point is to #1. have money to provide needed services for CITIZENS, and #2. redistribute DOWN, not up like the past eight years.

  61. Boston Boomer
That’s why I wrote “believe”. This relationship needs to be explored much more than it has. This man had the full attention of Obama from ages 10-18 & was the only “link” he had to the “black side” of himself. There is “gossip” stuff about Davis & the Durham’s from the main-land; I don’t care about that. I want to know if Davis knew “Tom Ayres”/or another of Obama’s cast of characters; back in Chicago.
That to me is the $64,000,000(inflation) question?

  62. Sistah for Hillary,

Auntie lives in Boston. She probably knew someone who knew the Mayor. Boston is every bit as corrupt if not more so than Chicago, trust me. There are tons of illegal aliens living in every large American city. If there weren’t the huge, expensive hotels wouldn’t have any people to clean the rooms, etc. The wealthiest people in this country don’t want illegal aliens to leave. They want to exploit them.

As for Obama, he is cold-hearted user who couldn’t care less about his own family. He supposedly went to see his grandmother who raised him and paid for his prep school and he spent two hours with her? That’s cold.

  63. poor Auntie
The focus of national media attention and her asshole nephew makes no attempt to defend her!
    niiiiiice guy!
what are people voting for him again?

  64. Obama has thrown his Aunt under the bus, yet kept he campaign contribution! He’s not family man at all!

    Well put here:

The facts that she is here illegally isn’t nearly as big of a deal as the fact that this man continues to push this line that he cares about the down trodden and yet he has shunned his own family members who are poor and donated appallingly low amounts of his own income to charity.

    Well said indeed!!

  65. Whenever I tell anyone that Obama did not go see his mother on her deathbed, they are always stunned. It’s really incomprehensible to most people. Of course that doesn’t prevent him for using her death in his health care ads.

Then there’s the way he used his grandmother, calling her a racist in front of the nation. And this was someone who lovingly raised him, not some Mommie Dearest.

Obama shows a consistent pattern of emotional disconnect when it comes to the women in his family. He really should be not be IN politics. He should be IN therapy. (JMHO of course)

  66. Ooops. I said r@cist. Please let me out of moderation.

  67. librc: Ooo! Touchy little Obama trolls.
Didn’t we tell you back in June that if the primary wasn’t conducted fairly that there would be no unity? Didn’t we say that if a man couldn’t honor his voters, how could we expect him to honor the principles that Hillary Clinton stood for all her life?
Get with the program, Obamabot. We’re not really interested in what you think. We don’t want a political opportunist in office. We can wait 4 more years for the right person.
BTW, if you are so worried about what Hillary thinks, why didn’t you vote for her when you had a chance?
Your argument has no teeth here. Go away or we will taunt you a second time.

  68. AP Headline: “Obama supporters gleeful, McCain’s glum”

    More media HAKA!

  69. Some of the mindless politi-crap that comes out of the mouths of Obama and his “team” is just unbelievable.

They have nothing compassionate to say about the aunt and her status.

No wonder the jerk can’t close the deal.
lose-lose-lose you selfish, mean power-hungry, evil creep!

  70. librc,

You are full of s&*%#. You have commented here a total of four times before today. “You people?” That’s nice. And how do you know whom we are going to vote for? Some people here may vote for McCain, but this site has not endorsed a candidate. We are united in our determination to vote against Obama. Go drink another glass of koolaid, but don’t call the Obamabots “you people,” or you might get a nasty surprise.

  71. Under McCain, Auntie would have a path to citizenship. Under her nephew, she has a path to a holding cell at INS. Yet, she contributed to her nephew. Unintended consequences suck.

  72. rd,

I sympathize with your complaints about how taxes get handled for singles vs. married couples.

I think it’s really time for us all to revisit many of these issues which (certainly in my case) we have too often simply left to the Democratic Party to define for us, as if they are a repository of wisdom on such matters.

Certainly I no longer believe that arguments that Democrats make, or positions that the Democratic Party espouses, should generally be taken as meant in good faith. They are, obviously, distorted by the constituencies of the Democratic Party — and those constituencies may themselves distort policies away from that which is productive, just, or fair.

We most of us have become Independents. It’s important to think like independents.

  73. Obama speaks glowingly about his Aunt in his book, then throws her under the bus 72 hours before the election.

That’s the kind of “change” Dear Leader believes in.

  74. librc

you don’t need a blog, you need a doctor.
    “you people”???
nice try with the guilt trip and the bush nonsense.

be sure to vote your conscience on Tuesday. I know I sure will.

    It’s about Democracy, stupid.

  75. Foxnews has pics up of Auntie’s place.
Her privacy has been seriously compromised.
    Not cool.

  76. With regard to his aunt, it would be pretty useful to get out of Obama some account of whether he has spoken to her in the last four years — since she was denied her application to stay in the US.

Did he not ask her about her immigration status? Is that at all plausible?

And if he hasn’t spoken to her in the four years, how much compassion does the guy have for his own kin? Apparently, he recalled her fondly in one of his books — yet he doesn’t speak to her in four years, or, if he does, doesn’t ask the obvious question as to her immigration status?

  77. Just for the record, here is how my support has evolved since December 2007:

    1) Kucinich
    2) Edwards
    3) Hillary
    4) McKinney
    5) McCain/Palin

So, as is plain to see I’m not voting for McCain/Palin because Hillary wasn’t nominated. I’m not voting McCain/Palin because of “hurt feelings.” (Gee, drinking the sexist kool-aid much?)

Both my husband and I are voting for McPalin to register our disgust and rejection of the sexism and misogyny that has been exploited by Camp Obama. IMO, anyone who cares about women’s issues would NEVER support Obama because misogyny is the foundation for keeping women down, keeping women marginalized, and keeping women from helping other women. I will not take part in his cynical cultivation and manipulation of sexism and hate.

  78. There really doesn’t seem to be a good way out of the aunt problem for Obama.

If he says he hasn’t talked to her in four years, he looks cold.

If he says he has but it never occurred to him to ask about her immigration status, he looks like a liar.

And if he says that he did ask, but that she lied to him or wouldn’t answer him, he looks like he’s throwing her under the bus.

  79. Backtrack seems to have a record of ignoring all who are not useful to him.
Family only when they help sell books.
College friends seem to be non existent or afraid to speak out about him.
Poor people in apt bldgs only when they are used to get money for Rescko, that is funnelled back to him.
Backtrack was born under a one-way sign.
We all know people like him they want from you but will never give to or help you when they are needed.
They are only around for the good times.

  80. libc,

With regard to Hillary’s support of Obama, has it ever occurred to you that there’s a little circularity in your argument?

Hillary has been pilloried from literally Iowa on for not falling in line behind Obama in supporting him. When Obama finally “won” the nomination, every Obama supporter in the country seemed to be on her back demanding that she put on a big smile and show her utter support of Obama to the outside world. If she didn’t do so, the message was clear, she would have absolutely no future in the Democratic Party.

And yet, when Hillary, as a good Democrat, does go out and campaign for Obama, that is suddenly used as fodder for the argument that whole hearted support of Obama is what Hillary clearly wants us to embrace.

Excuse me, you don’t simultaneously force someone to do something and then turn around and point out that their having done so is all the evidence you need to see what they really believe in their heart of hearts.

  81. I just watched both Saran and McCain at 2 separate events.

    They are on Fire!

I have to admit, I get a cheap thrill everytime the “Straight Talk Express Bus” pulls up to an event!

Thank you to all of you that are working so hard to make John and Sarah our Leaders! We will never regret it!

  82. My grandkids were disappointed last night when a cousin called and invited them to go trick-or-treating in downtown Deland with their group and it fell through. Fortunately we stayed in our own neighborhood and a good time was had by all. I went to the video state of disbelief linked to and realized I’ve been real cautious for a really good reason. The corner in the video has had lots of sign-carriers from the McCain and the Obama groups for quite a while. The Obama supporters have usually been young, which figures in a college town. This over-50 jerk attacking an elderly man makes you realize the campaign insanity is affecting every age group.

  83. Just to follow up on my last post, Hillary’s campaign on behalf of Obama should be taken with roughly the same seriousness that a denunciation of the US by a political prisoner should be taken when forced by his captors to do so under grave threats.

Obama supporters here would be like the captors — they are both forcing her to do something very likely against her will, but then insisting on using the “admission” as evidence of her true beliefs.

  84. Response by the McCain campaign to Senator Obama’s aunt
    by Greta Van Susteren

This is a follow up blog entry to the one I just posted

    From: Cameron, Carl
    Sent: Sat Nov 01 11:19:49 2008
    Subject: McCain/BHO aunt

Aides say McCain will NOT mention the Obama campaigns’ statement saying he did not know that his aunt from Kenya is an illegal alien living in South Boston.
McCain aides say NOR will the campaign mention it.
BUT THEY DO PREDICT that “others certainly will.”

  85. This is a good one:

Obama did not know that Wright preached hate for 20 yrs.

Obama did not know that Ayers was a domestic terrorist.

Khalidi was just another fellow in the neighborhood.

Obama lied to the people 3 times in the primary when he promised to take fed funding for his election, until he decided he would rather try to buy the election by collecting a half a billion dollars in which 200 million or more of it he refuses to disclose how he got.

Now Obama has thrown his Aunt under the bus and lied again to the American people with his continued pattern of “I have no knowledge.”

Obama’s chickens are coming home to roost!

    Surpise, surprise! 😉

  86. Barack Obama is amoral. Maybe he has Asperger syndrome?

I have a few aunts all over the world and to be honest – I haven’t spoken to any of them in years. But I’m quite aware of them and what they’re all up to via various other family members. Certainly if I was running for political office and they donated money to my campaign I would contact them. They are, after all, family giving me money. This is one of those situations Obama has walked into out of sheer stupidity. As someone pointed out, there’s no good response from him. He can either say he knows nothing about this woman or admit that his campaign broke the law (and so did she.) Well, either way she broke the law by giving him money. I think Obama’s hope is that this story goes away quickly so he doesn’t have to really deal with it. From everything we’ve seen from the media – they’ll help him out.

  87. Taking Sasha out must have been Michelle’s idea because Barack looked to be a real grump about it. Even though Sasha is living a very privileged life, I do feel sorry for her in this case. Look at her face after dad’s crankiness.

About Obama’s auntie…this story could end up being the October surprise. Maybe this is one reason Team Obama has been pushing the early voting so hard.

  88. Were little Sasha and DaddyO out trick or treating w/o a treat bag? Looks like publicity stunt to me. I’d be mad too if I were Sasha. Didn’t he let them do a tacky interview b/c it was her birthday and say they don’t give them Christmas presents?? The Obama’s are a weird family.

  89. “Democrat Barack Obama got annoyed with the media Friday as he tried to walk down a Chicago street with his 7-year-old daughter, Sasha, who was dressed up in a shiny costume for Halloween.”

What’s really funny is how this story has been re-worded since last night. That sentence originally read “Democrat Barack Obama show a rare flash of anger with the media…” He’s gone from being angry to simply being annoyed. Wonder who did the rewrite? The press or the O campaign?

  90. […] Saturday: The Battle for First Seven Year Old Piper “Snow Princess” Palin redistributes her candy wealth: […]

  91. I spent all day shopping as shopping has become a job – we clip all our coupons and check the sales and then we buy only what’s on sale at each store (of the things we need). That means 8 stores which are all in vicinity of one another. It saves us a huge amount of money.

Today we noted how many people do what we do, and how many combine that with using the food pantry – middle class people. People talked openly about their financial issues and the election. I spoke with quite a few both Obama and McCain supporters. Quite a few McCain supporters were Dems and a number had heard of PUMA. The change in Obama supporters above 25 is the slow recognition that Obama is an unknown entity with no observable previous record and people are afraid of what will happen under Obama with the economy. They have already heard how he is backtracking on his promises and the people’s “unrealistic” expectations of him.

They are beginning to feel more comfortable with someone who’s been around, make no major promises he may not be able to keep, and they feel they can trust. I even had people tell me that Palin has run a budget and were McCain to well, pass on, she’s actually made decisions as a governor, as Clinton had. They feel they can trust her as she worked in the best interest of her constituents.

People are more worried about the economy than anything else – and the ostentatiousness of Obama’s campiagn is not lost on people, and neither is the secrece and voter fraud. It doesn’t promote trust.

I’m going to store all away and make dinner and then be back to catch up with all the comments etc.

One additional note: those who knew the Confluence and come and read find it more objective than most other blogs and balanced. One woman keeps up with the economic issues via Dakinikats posts.

  92. lookimg for integrity: thank you for that bit of news. It is the highest compliment that we are thought to be more objective and balanced. I’m not sure it’s always true but we try to not stoop to character assassination. This election season has been very trying for all of us.

  93. Too bad the media did not mention the friend’s house. Of course, they were probably afraid they would be pushed OFF the bus if it were Ayers or the R man’s house.

  94. Hillary backing Obama falls under the same category of why McCain had to play ball with the right wing of his party for the last eight years. Partisan politics requires good, moderate candidates to be “team players” if they want to have a future. Partisanship is the wrench in the gears of American government. Scrap the two-party system altogether, I say.

  95. Good point, microbio. That is one of the reasons I’m trusting McCain with my vote.
