Early Halloween Open Thread

Donna Brazile makes me sick!

I got yer party unity right here!

Are you dressing up for Halloween?  Any special plans?  Tell us about it, or whatever else is on your mind.

  1. Looks like a full moon tonight

  2. I’ll be covering for people at work all night, it’s all good though as maybe it will come back in karma on the 4th. 🙂

  3. kitchen — I tried to answer you question about Boy Scouts in the last thread — if my answer wasn’t clear, remind me tomorrow & I’ll try again.

myiq — i know my spanglish is rusty, but in the last thread did you say “See you the eggs, my love”?
    Hasta los huevos mi amor!

  4. Well, interestingly, my sweet son just called me. I asked him to clarify his church’s stance on 8 and he said that in his opinion, the church is afraid that they will be open to lawsuits if they refuse to perform same sex marriages. It seems like someone’s idea on the other thread would be a good idea- just to place a stipulation protecting such churches while allowing same sex marriages, rather than outlawing them in a wholesale fashion.

  5. myiq:

You had me going. It’s not a full moon, If it was, it would most definitely also be a blue moon!!

  6. 😉

  7. And also this: you should bow to my opinions on Halloween. (hint: see my handle)

  8. ghostu:

    Looks orange to me

  9. myiq – had to look at your post before calling it a night!
did you hack MO’s emails for those candid shots of her? Picture’s worth a thousand words, isn’t it?

    Nite, again!

angie – good answer, good answer…
churches better be careful about govt funds for “faith based initiatives”. Always gotta watch who you take money from… (are you listening BO?)

  10. I am in favor of gay/lesbian marriage, but churches should be free to make their own decisions on which marriages (if any) to officiate.

I am opposed to “faith based initiatives” because the “wall” between church and state shouldn’t have any doors or windows.

  11. I agree, myiq. There are some problems, though, when you work for a church-based organization (as in my community, I used to be employed by the only hospital in town, which is run by a church). Things get a little weird then, like they pick and choose certain labor benefits ( eg, few people know it, but church run businesses do not need to offer Cobra benefits, for one).

  12. nightycomes!

  13. What do churches have to do with a law legalizing gay marriage? Some churches already perform marriages for same sex couples. What a priest says is his interpretation of God’s law has nothing to do with what our government recognizes to be the law of mankind. We do separate church and state in this country (as much as we can, perhaps not as much as we should.) A marriage ceremony performed in church/synagogue/mosque/etc., but with legal paperwork never filled out – is that an actual marriage? The two ceremonies – civil (going to city hall) and religious (standing before a priest/rabbi/etc.) are not mutually exclusive. As an atheist gay man I’m interested in our government recognizing same-sex marriage and all legal benefits that implies. I don’t particularly care what the church says on the subject.

  14. Great pictures!

I sure do miss pumpkins. They don’t make those carving types down here.

Kids are going out trick or treating. It isn’t a big thing here but they are trying to make it so.

  15. lilliam, churches don’t even need to offer minimum wage. Someone I know applied to work at a church and they were paying like $2/hr! lol All perfectly legal.

  16. Tomorrow will be the first year I’ve ever dressed up at work. Two of our women are dressing up as Sarah Palin to mock her (I have no idea what they’ll come up with), so I’m wearing my “we can do it SP t-shirt” with every McCain/Palin button I can get my hands on attached to it, and I’ll be a Republican Billboard tomorrow.

  17. Actually, DYB, as a fellow gay person, I don’t even care about recognition of marriage – I just want all the same benefits that straight people have.

    Show–me–the–money—baby.

  18. “Two of our women are dressing up as Sarah Palin to mock her”

This is all so grade school. Sarah palin isn’t thinking about you, and it’s kind of sad.

  19. “it’s kind of sad”

    Fixt

  20. Just woke up to Italian tv (RAI 3) this morning. They’re having 20 minute specials on the US elections this week. Usual stuff weighted for BO.
However, today, unlike yesterday, they seem to sense that Obama might just not make it.
They had a young Italian Dem female campaigner on. She has been knocking on doors in Pennsylvania for the past 2 months. She said that older Italo-Americans (who always vote Dem) will not vote for BO-they were shutting the door in her face, and would stay at home rather than go out to vote.

And this is a link to an article on an Erica Jong interview to Corriere della Sera. She states that there will be blood on the streets if Obama does not win:
    http://tinyurl.com/5rd9mh

  21. Yeah, Erica Jong and Eve Ensler are going to go all Thelma and Louise on our asses. Then we’ll be sorry.

  22. However, today, unlike yesterday, they seem to sense that Obama might just not make it.

And we are fervently hoping so!

…an Erica Jong interview to Corriere della Sera. She states that there will be blood on the streets if Obama does not win

I hope she’s offering to put her body out there and her blood to be spilled.

Offhand, what was the last thing she had published?

  23. Foxnews.com has a headline up about this being the most watched election video on YouTube:

It’s quite powerful. Never guess who the vet endorsed.

  24. So anyone who might be needing a transfusion sometime next week, just go lie down in the gutter and get ready, the blood will be coming directly.

  25. Seriously, on October 31st, 2008 at 3:56 am Said:

On the other hand, Bill, Eric and the other vamps on True Blood will get a free meal! 8)

  26. Tho se people are delusional. At best, parts of Los Angeles will have riots.

  27. uh oh. This may all be a plot by Jong to smoke out some vaps for a research project. Sneaky.

  28. vamps

As long as they don’t turn her. That would be a miserable eternity!!

  30. See, you mock scrubs, but ‘Gamers Who Hate C—-‘ have all kinds of plans for a belligerant March on Washington.

  31. who’s mocking scrubs?

  32. scrubs is mocking the people who are saying the streets will be red with blood.

  33. Can you imagine guys mocking other men — simply because they are male? If Sarah had a penis — well we know women would be falling all over themselves.

Seems like these irrational Palin hating women are really into self hatred.

I put a comment on a thread or two down — about how my friend who lives in on a Caribbean Island just FedEx her absentee ballots up to Virginia — for McCain Palin. That cost her US$50. But she is not about to give up without making sure that her vote gets up to the states in time.

Sometimes she sounds like Pat did tonight — when that happens I remind my friend that Hillary won California — and the pollsters were wrong — and Hillary won New Hampshire and the pollsters were wrong.

We get discouraged because we know so much more about Obama then the MSM is reporting. We know that he is unfit to be CiC — and he has never run any organization successfully — basically he has zero experience. We know Obama is a crook just like his buddy Rezko. We probably know enough on him that we could contribute to a powerful expose type book.

Most voters are mostly going with bits and pieces of information — lots of that information is twisted by the MSM.

That’s what happened with Hillary — but she fought really hard — made her case and in the end she won — she really really did win — she won the popular vote and she won the Electoral college vote. The DNC ignored her win and awarded the nomination to their chosen ONE.

BUT the DNC isn’t running this election and there are NO caucuses to game. Joe the Plumber said what had to be said — and Obama opened his mouth and stuck his foot in his mouth. McCain and Palin are fighting as hard as Hillary was fighting — but McPalin don’t have to be nice — they don’t have to pull their punches — and they won’t.

The exit polls for absentee ballots from Americans in Israel are 76% for McCain — so that is a very positive sign. Many of the absentee votes are from key swing states like Florida and Pennsylvania.

  34. I don’t ever recall an election where the media seem so determined to predict the winner beforehand.

Typically they quit talking about polls the last couple weeks

  35. Seriously, on October 31st, 2008 at 4:19 am Said:

    Oops! Sorry!

I sent my absentee ballot via FedEx because I wanted that signature that it was received.

I wasn’t worried because it’s going to Louisiana, but then surprise! I saw a video on a local station’s website that said their polling indicating it was a tight race there! Could not believe it!

  36. I jsut checked in to Rush Limbaugh’s site: he has a front page link about HillBuzz.

Obama Media Manipulation Tactics Exposed in Pro-Hillary Blog Post?

“…This is a post to a website that’s run by Hillary supporters that are desperately trying to get people to believe that Democrats in droves are abandoning Obama like this woman here from the Obama staff. You read this and you don’t know what to make of it. You read something like this, you want to believe it. There is a back up post, by the way, post 133. I kept going to see what people would say to this poster. …”

    I like that.

    No worries, Fredster – I think I knew I wasn’t being mocked………was I?

  38. myiq – are you around? Once again, I went to moderation and don’t know why.

    Can you check on that?

  39. That was me. Something is crashing my browser and it just started happening.

I’m trying to figure out what it is

  40. It’s that scary-ass picture you have next to you.

Go back to the handsome fellow.

    🙂

  41. lol

  42. Are you saying Captain Spaulding isn’t handsome???

  43. Oooooh-is that you as a baby????
Or is it a grandchild? (just curious)

  44. It’s a Halloween costume.

    Pretty good one eh?

  45. Awww, what a cute baby! Looks really good at 400%.

(Did you ever upgrade your IE so that you could play with percentages also?)

  46. I thought that scary clown avatar was John Wayne Gacy (coincidentally from Chicago).

    No scary clowns from Chi-Town!

    Happy Halloween

  47. Halloween costume. You’re such a dork, myiq. Good thing you are smarter than me.

  48. The wee hours are tame tonight.

  49. Poplicola:

I don’t know why, but it seem that it’s your comments that are crashing my browser.

I kicked them into the spam queue and now it’s not crashing.

The media is playing psychological mind games with the voters — they tried the same thing with Hillary. She’s lost — why doesn’t she just go home already — what nerved of her to keep winning.

Now the constant message — Obama has this all tied up — I think that Yahoo has the electoral college vote up — and we are being hit constantly with polls.

My question is will the media start reporting exit polls before the west coast even starts voting??

Thankfully this time there are so many great blogs — that we can figure out what’s happening on the ground — grass roots reports.

  51. I just got thru the launder money thread.

It made me think of something BB posted about a young man in Ceylon -or was it India? Something about the World having the right to choose the POTUS rather than ‘Jack and Jill six-pack’.

It struck me as being very international frat-boyz.
I am certain that a great many of them found it very easy to contribute to BO this year.

Gawd wouldn’t it be nice if we could all have Halloween costumes like that…..

  52. Laurie:

I don’t know who is funding the illegal donations to Obama, but I do know he is the #1 recipient of Wall Street money

  53. NW rain. They’ve already been doing exit polls of early voters. Disgust is understatement.

  54. Go to Hillbuzz and read the comments on this page:

    http://hillbuzz.wordpress.com/2008/10/30/tito-the-builder-on-hannity-colmes-tonight/#comments

I found comment #20 very, very interesting.

  55. A November ditty

(with apologies – of sorts – to Tom Lehrer)

    Whatever became of Obama?
    Has anyone heard a thing?
Once he shone on his own,
    Now he sits home alone
And waits for the phone to ring.

    Once a fiery liberal spirit,
Ah, but now when he speaks, no one hears it.
    No fiddle’s a hard part, I know,
When they don’t even give you a bow.

“We must protest this treatment, Obama”,
    Says each newspaper reader.
As someone once remarked to madamab,
    “Take us to our Lieder”…
    (Sorry about that.)

    Whatever became of you, Obama?
We miss you, so tell us, please:
Are you sad? Are you cross?
    Are you gathering moss
While you wait for Pelosi to sneeze?

Does Hillary, expound, with unbridled glee,
Saying “I’ll do unto you like you did to me”?
Do you dream about staging a coup?
Oh, Obama what happened to you?

  56. I’m wondering if this is some kind of trick or treat…its an article that says Hillary is asking for money for Murtha! I hope its a joke.

    http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/murtha-pleas-for-1-million-after-racism-comments-2008-10-30.html

  57. I echo kjmontana – get yourselves over to Hillbuzz via the link and read comment #20.

We won’t be needing a Carol Haka after all.

  58. Laurie, on October 31st, 2008 at 5:54 am Said:

That is disgusting, vile and nasty. I thought they were just counting dem and rep voters and assuming that all dems were voting for what’s his name.

How can they do any sort of reliable count — people exiting early poling places? What about absentee voting?

  59. Okay morning shift, take over. I’m getting tired.

Please take a look at the comment that kjmontana has pointed to on hillbuzz. It’s important. A little tidbit from comment #20:

” I’ve come to the realization (as the campaign already has) that if this comes to the issues, Barack Obama doesn’t have a chance. His only chance is to foster disorganization, chaos, despair, and a sense of inevitability among the Republicans. It has worked up until now. Joe the Plumber has put the focus on the issues again, and this scares us more than anything. Being in a position to know these things, I will rate what the Obama campaign already knows are their weak links from the most important on down.

1 – Hillary voters. Internal polling suggests that at best, we are taking 70-75% of these voters. Other estimates are as low as 60% in some areas – particularly Ohio and western PA.”

It goes on, you guys, with some very cool stuff. I think we are in good shape.

  60. New post up

  61. Yes kjmontana comment #20 is interesting….

  62. Thanks for the Rush/HillBuzz link.
In my life I never thought those 2 words would EVER go together.

I know I’m not someone whose CALLS to do something are heard; but please….Please….PLEASE listen NOW:
    E-Mail Rush…………..ELRUSHBO@eibnet.com
Tell him the writer is right!
Point him yet again to Dr. Lynnet Long’s cite
Send “We Will Not Be Silienced”
***MUST “cc” to other news sources
They ALL listen to Rush He Will Talk About It!

  63. Well, that top one echoes my sentiments about this election, no end.
You know, at this point, I wouldn’t put anything past the “P” —
    like this, and Cindy Sheehan…….

    http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/Cindy-Sheehans-Campaign-Headquarters-Heavily/story.aspx?guid=%7B06D7B246-2AA6-452C-A072-36CE97B919C8%7D

    or this:

maybe that is a standard practice, but….
it has just the right creepy feel for Halloween.

    !

    Happy Halloween to the PUMAclan…….
you crack me up, miq2xu! that top pumpkin……..hahahahah!
    & bwhwhahahah!

Oh man, just a few more days………..
a few more days — you know what is wrong with all that fundraising?

it’s wrong — just like a lot of other things this year…
