I find it interesting that  many centrists are angered and surprised. They though these, arguably the most progressive members of the House caucus, would endorse Warren. Let our Voices Count – A Fundraiser

At the end of the Democratic Primary season, this was the situation:

Popular Vote
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: 17,857,446, (48.04%)
Senator Barack Obama: 17,584,649 (47.31%)

Pledged delegates

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: 1,730.5 (39.17%)
Senator Barack Obama: 1,747.5 (39.55%)

(source)

Then, for no apparent good reason, in June Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosis decided THEY, not the delegates chosen by the electorate and not the superdelegates appointed via proper party procedure, were going to decide who would represent the top of the ticket for the general election. Now that same leadership wants YOU to legitimize their undemocratic and unprincipled methods by putting their selected candidate into the White House on November 4.

But WE can say no to the subversion of democratic principles within the Democratic Party. We can say no with our votes and by urging our fellow Democrats to pay attention to the particulars of the candidate Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi selected to represent the Democratic Party.

Put this ad on the air and let America know that our voices count.

Over the next 24 hours and across the internet, we as a community will urgently be raising money to run edgy and persuasive ads made by Democrats in key battleground states. Generous contributors have pledged $500 in matching funds. Your voice counts. Please contribute now

  1. Thanks for posting. I’ll donate $50 if someone will match me….

  2. I clicked on Rosie and it would not let me donate 😦

  3. but it went thru at the Denver Group !

  4. Great ad!
Self appointed “artist” who hung Palin in effigy captured the essence of this campaign: “the image of a hanged black man is more intense than the image of a hanged white woman”
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/10/27/black-man-hanged-would-be-more-intese-than-a-while-woman-hanged/

  5. I always get a smile from the quick-talking voices at the end of political ads. They remind me of the barkers at the tobacco auctions that were all over Eastern/Central Kentucky at one time. Only a few left.

  6. I wish I could donate now – I’m underemployed, i.e. working but barely scraping by after the BIG JOB BAILOUT COLLAPSE happened to me earlier this month. If I get my child support early this week (which never does, but who knows) I’ll donate to the cause.

  7. I’m reposing this little ditty from the previous pst because it seems more relevant here.

    ELEGY FOR THE DEMOCRATS

    (apologies to the Bard)

O! that you were your self; but, Democrats, you are
No longer yours, than you yourself here live:
Against the coming end you should prepare,
And your sweet semblance to the other party give:
So should the lead which you now hold in vice
Find no determination; then you were
    Yourself again, after party’s demise,
When your principles your officers should bear.
Who lets so fair a party fall to decay?
Which candidates in honor might uphold,
Against the stormy gusts of November’s day
And barren rage of defeats eternal cold?
O! none. Dear Democrats, you know,
You had Hillary: but you let her go.

  8. i just had an interesting phone call. the lady introduced herself as trying to get donations for the dimocrat congressional races. she didn’t know how she gained my number or name either. i listened out of courtesy and told her no. she made a special point of leaving obama’s name out of it. in fact i think she knew i was puma.

it seems to me they are trying to hit us now wanting for the “good ” democrats. i told her many or most of the congressional delegations were super delegates and took part in this fraud, so no thanks i can’t.

  9. Echoing swanspirit

  10. My Congressman is a blue dog so who should I vote for downticket since there isn’t a Democrat?

  11. Now that same leadership wants YOU to legitimize their undemocratic and unprincipled methods by putting their selected candidate into the White House on November 4.

Bottom line! NO NO NO NO NO. I will not endorse anti-democratic practices. Illegitimate nominee who was selected, not elected.

  12. I just sent my lunch money for the next two days to the Denver Group! I love their ads and how well they speak for me.

I do not know how anyone with an ethical conscience can support Obama when they see the caucus fraud that occurred all over our country. I witnessed it in Texas, the videos about this corruption are true cases. Why does it appear that people do not care? That worries me more than anything.

  13. myiq – I voted for the v@ginas, about 1/2 of whom were non-Dems.

Leisa: because they can’t see. And here’s the scary bit;: you can’t make anyone “see” what you see. You can lead them to it, around it, in it, of it, by it, and through it. But if their filters are in place they will not and cannot see. They are not being obtuse – they are just not coming from where you are (more’s the pity). Keep the faith, keep up hope.

  15. scrubs:

I don’t have many v@ginas to choose from. Besides Palin and McKinney/Clemente I have ONE female candidate on my ballot.

My blue dog is running unopposed (and this district is conservative)

  16. urge: good point. This election has made me acutely aware of how selective perception is, and people are locked in their preconceived notions, desires, and prejudices. That problem is compounded by the deliberate misinformation and manipulation of the media to promote and protect Obama at every turn. People are not getting accurate information, but are given rationalizations that they eagerly imbibe and repeat.

  17. Hmmmm, myiq, tough to help you there, then.

    Any clowns running?

  18. sm77,

  22. It looks to me like Lambert has talked himself into the “vote for Obama but hold his feet to the fire” position.

Sorry to offend – this started weeks ago sort of as a joke and we have gotten into the habit of saying “vote for v@ginas”. I am certain that noone, especially me, means to dehumanize women.

  43. I should add that noone HERE wants to dehumanize women – elsewhere in the political country, there are those who certainly DO.

  44. Rima: Ain’t that the awful truth? We would normally celebrate this event however a full Dem congress with a make believe Dem as C in C is the worst scenario imaginable now.

  45. Yeah, it really is me. Urgetcompute, my parents actually thought it was a vision problem. It started very young. You start talking, I look at you sideways.

  47. pat, really?? that’s awesome…he really is a nasty old man….

  48. Didn’t bother me scrubs, after seeing the v@gina monologues, I am immune.

  49. gary: Yes, on all 7 counts and he will be sentenced in Jan. Facing 5 yrs on each count. The lying creep.

  50. is he dropping out of the race? isn’t he up for re-election?

  51. I just received this Breaking News from the Columbus Dispatch. I tried to link to the article and failed. Sorry if this has been covered. Does this sound believable?

WASHINGTON (AP) — The ATF says it has broken up a plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 102 black people in a Tennessee murder spree.

  52. yeah, that sounds a lot like the “plot” of the homeless guys in florida to blow up the sears tower.

  53. That’s what I thought, garych.

  54. Here ia a link for the story:

    http://www.kansascity.com/445/story/860563.html

  55. Believable? On some level, sure, just as we had “terror plots to blwo up teh Sears Building” which in the end, added up a c few wackos talking big in Florida, while not having enough cash to buy teh “commando boots” they through serious terrorists like themselves should wear.

Given teh media..I’d say it will be treated as “serious”…sigh. That said, teh ATF is usually pretty decent, but my best GUESS..and that’s all it is…is that it’s anothe rcase where they foudna group of wackos with a lto of talk, but no way of putting it into action.

But you KNOW the media is dyign to get OFF teh “redistribute teh wealth” and “Joe teh Plumber” memes and onto somethign more BO-friendly.

  56. Does anyone know anything about a video that links Obama and Raila Odinga of Kenya? I recently saw one and was very troubled by it. Is it real?

  57. Hah, Gary..GMTA. I mean in today’s environment, if someoen on this list said…and I”m probably edging into trouble here so let’s make it all theortitical…that their last best hope was that candiate X would be assassinated, and someone else said “Hey, he’ll be in my town this weekend, want me to see if I can get tickets?” and the first person said “Better make it the first reow, I”m a terible shot!” and so on….I’d say that ‘some” woudl say, upon reading it, they had found an “assassination plot.”

  58. I’m an irregular reader, a refugee from an Obot-dominated news board. The misoyny was off the charts and no one ever referred to Hillary, her supporters or Palin as “women”. Their language was always pejorative and “vagin@s” was one of their favorites (probably, in part, because I always objected to it).
I know that there was no intent to harm, here.

  59. I am at the point of such disbelief in the MSM that it would not surprise me that they would “invent” this threat to make Obama even more of a victim of ra*cial hatred to play on the sympathy of those of us holdouts or undecideds. That is how much credibility is left in the media. None.

  60. Welcome Jean!

  66. Fredster,
I don’t need Lambert to stick up for me :o).

More than a few Conflucians refer to themselves as “v@gina voters” because they intend to vote for women candidates whenever possible until women hold at least 30% of all political offices.

  68. Jean, I feel this is a site where you can speak out and expect to be respected and listened to when you have a point to make (or even, as most often it is with some of us, when there is no point to make!).

Obots and tr()lls, of course are verboten (we feed them to myiq).

  69. Fredster:

I agree with Lambert on most issues. I’m just reading between the lines of his recent posts.

  70. Pat, my vice is TMZ and btw, Amy is back in the hospital.
    😳

  71. Nixon had higher poll ratings than Obama. If I had to buy a used car from either, I would buy it from Nixon, because although he was liar, he knew what he was selling and it wasn’t just himself. He did have a kind of desire to see the US be better in the world, as screwed up as he was. Plus, he was just plain smarter.

  72. Yep, it’s shocking when one of them does the “right” thing and puts the constituents first. How sad is that?

  73. IQ,
The McCain/Palin=evil line is almost epidemic. Everyone, even those who don’t like Obama are falling for it.

  76. I became a gynocrat myself after reading about the 30% solution here. Really, I love my vagin@. I think it may be that I just need to detox from the other site.

  77. So Ted Stevens is guilty – Don’t that just make you wish Colin Powell thought you were super great?

    Uh, yeah…

  78. Hi all – To raise money for Democrats for Principle Before Party, I will put a Puzzler up on my site on Thursday at 8pm – rather than as usual on Saturday. This is to get the money out to DPBP more quickly.
The prize will be $250, and the Puzzler will be to identify a picture of the “location where BO would like to hold his inauguration ceremony – if he wins… and it’s not even in DC….”

This is the last Puzzler. Thanks to you all for your encouragement and participation.

  79. Most people could not give a straight answer as to why they hated Hillary. Of course you get the same response asking an Obat why they support Obama. A vague answer and a confused look.

  80. How is Capt. Spaulding a humanitarian? I know what I think you will say, but just for the hell of it, fill me in.

  81. gqm:

Even Bob Somerby and Paul Krugman aren’t immune.

I think that McCain and Palin are decent, patriotic Americans who have run a pretty clean campaign.

They haven’t lied about Obama or run r@cist ads.

I don’t agree with them on the issues, but that doesn’t make them evil. Even Bill and Hillary call McCain a friend.

  82. lol jean, kim, pat, urge, myiq, everyone! thank goddess we can laugh..

Just listened to the “Obama tape” on Dobbs Radio and noticed

Finally figured out he wasn’t using the “preacher inflection” back then.
Much easier to listen to, in my opinion.
That Rev Wright imitation he does annoys the hell out of me.

  83. Kim: He “hunts” humans. Thus humanitarian.

  84. Pat, so true. That dazed and confused look, you used to see from people who had just smoked a little too much.

  85. Lou Dobbs is my new BFF. I am sure he will have much to say tonight about Biden, etc. Love Lou just in case anyone has yet to figure that out.

  86. Hey myiq (and gqm): are you referencing the post about the republicans stealing the election ‘again’?

I think Lambert’s comment was snark. I’m pretty sure he won’t know anyone protesting with torches and pitchforks… just sayin’

  87. oh, Kim: a vegetarian eats vegetables (eschewing – but not chewing – meat) a meatatarian eats meat, mainly eschewing vegetables – a humanitarian eats ….?!!!

  88. pat as long as there is lou, there is hope. 😉

Totally disrespectful, and totally running from the truth!

  99. catarina,
I noticed that Obama sounded different on that tape as well. I didn’t pick up on the accent but you’re right.
He sounded much more sure of himself, too, as if he were talking about what he really believed instead of trying to present himself as an unthreatening moderate Democrat.

  100. I thought he was a humanitarian because he saved us from the likes of ignorant people.

  124. I plan to send funds on Friday.

Meanwhile — although we may not be ready to experience the Battle of the Alamo, I found that the following segment from a biography of Stephen F. Austin (generally considered the father of Texas) offers some similar parallels to a certain person in this year’s electoral politics.

Citing the “unpredictable” General Santa Anna of Mexico, an Austin biographer, Gregg Cantrell, observes:

“From the start of his career the forty-one-year-old general had given no discernible evidence of being guided by any particular ideology or principle. Instead, he had invested his time and effort in building a cult of personality around his military exploits, cemented by a loyal following among certain army officers and sustained by the impressive personal fortune he had accumulated over the years…. His usual strategy was to wait until he was certain which direction the political winds were blowing, then place himself at their head and reap the benefits.”

Santa Anna also had been watching Mexico’s conservatives gain power, waiting for their discontent with a certain liberal leader so he could capitalize, writes Cantrell, but he “concealed his intentions so well that even the most informed observers could not be sure what he would do.”

[Stephen Austin had long fought for Texas to be a separate state in the Mexican republic but while he was imprisoned in Mexico ostensibly for sedition, the clamor for rebellion against Mexico mounted back home in Texas. Santa Anna had played many wily games, but now he dissolved the Mexican Congress and became a dictator. The Texans, of course, soon declared independence from Mexico and experienced obliteration by Santa Anna’s forces at the Alamo.
