Let us speak today of how a new world is created. Let us do so by examining a creation myth: the Norse one.  Here it is, in part. Odin, Vili, and Vé killed the giant Ymir. When Ymir fell, there issued from his wounds such a flood of blood, that all the frost ogres were […]

Late Night: Seeing past the end of your nose

Every day to the streets of New York, the folks of New Jersey commute…

In the past month, the stores in Central New Jersey have seemed more and more empty.  The cost of living is high here and when these commuters start to get laid off, the social safety net will have many holes in it for them.  Their salaries are too high for their children to qualify for SCHIP.  Unemployment payments are likely to be inadequate to pay the bills.  These are hard working Americans who pay their raxes everyday and aren’t looking for a handout.  Pretty soon, this is going to hit Americans all over the country.

They were there for the rest of the country when times were good.  Let’s not forget them when times get bad.

  1. why do I always wax so elequent at the end of the thread

When Obama loses and All my Obot friends are angry and say election fraud….I want to tell the sorry koolaid drinkers….

“I am the responsible one, I defeated barak obama, I brought him down, I took the prize from his grasping hand, that which he felt so entitled! I did it not with a knife or a gun not with trickery nor dishonest deed or duplicity…NO I did it with the strongest of weapons known to man I did it with my vote my civic voice! It was a terrible wicked thing I did but I feel spotless as a lamb!”

sorry but the above wasreally good and I wanted to repost it corrected!

  2. The hospital I retired from is beginning to look at layoffs of up to 10% of the workforce which translates to about 1,000 people.

Their multi million dollar building project for a new Cardiac Unit has come to a halt as the hospital is now millions short of completing the project as state aid has been reduced.

A friend’s son, a long distance truck driver, is seeing his routes cut short due to the economy and cutbacks.

My son’s company has just let 30 go owing to a slowdown in business.

Two major car dealerships in my city are closing their doors.

This is only going to worsen over the next 8 to 12 months.

  3. I was channeling Jefferson Payne or maybe milton or maybe all of them!

Wonder how I’m going to react to my Obot friends?
Fuzzy, I just looked at the post you wrote about the thrity percent solution. That was an eloquent one too. You should be a preacher.

  5. Pat-

But the tough times will hopefully bring us together as a country after this bitter election that will have many losers but no winners….

We will be stronger…I try not to be bitter that all of this could have been avoided but for 18 plegged delegates!

  6. I thought it was Palin who was running away from the “tough” interviews. How do you guys explain this?

Obama Shuns Press Conferences, Sits With ‘EXTRA!’s’ Mario Lopez

Wow! What’s next, “Outside Edition”, “TMZ”, and People Magazine?

If you get depressed in the next 10 days, just remind yourself that you will either be gloating on Nov. 5th or spending most of the next 4 years telling your friends “I TOLD YOU SO!”

If anyone really annoys you, let me know and I’ll have the Captain pay them a visit.

  9. Michael: We have to get through just this winter alone. Heating prices are astronomical and if things are looking as they are right now in the mid East, gas prices will soar once again.
As of today we are virtually leaderless. Bush, McCain, Obama in my judgment are not the ones to lead us out of this quagmire.

I realize I sound like Debbie Downer here but we have to get realistic. The candidates, along with the MSM, prefer to spend wasted time talking about the costs of a wardrobe and whose choosing the drapes while the rest of us sit and contemplate how we plan to survive.

  11. hey everyone. I’ve been working all weekend on a new blog of my own. I just posted about a shocking crowd of obot protesters at Palin’s event here in Asheville, NC this evening. There is some disturging imagery from the obot protesters, but I think this needs to be spread out there to show how disgusting they really are. Check it out and let me know what you think

let me know what you think of the blog too… 🙂

  12. First, {{{Fuzzy}}} — I love you! I’ve been watching from the moderation screen and it’s hard to comment from there but, I had to come in and tell you how much I loved what you wrote.

Second, {{MyIQ2xu}} — I just read what you wrote to Mister and he said, “Is that MyIQ? That guy thinks just like me.” — He guessed who wrote it (and he’s never visited The Confluence himself)

  13. Pat good news on the heating prices the cost ove energy is way down I work of an electric and gas company-we expect natural gas prices and home heating oil to continue to fall….

  14. MA Blue, there’s actually a better chance Mario Lopez would ask Obama a tough question than any ‘credible’ media outlet.

  15. I believe that McCain will have Hillary to help him when he attains the Oval Office she is a true advocate for the people and Mccain is a decent enough man to ask her for her judgement and Sarah will be ther to make sure the “Ladies” are heard!

thanks all I know we will win but its just my friends people I really care for are making my life hard. I just wanted to get away from the politics but they wont let it rest.

  43. myiq – I think you asked a question about Rahm E. on the prior thread. All you need to know about him is that he is David Axelrod’s best friend. It says it all.

During the primary he lead the effort to label B. Clinton a racist. Although he was always sourced as “a former Clinton high ranking staff member”. Hillary didn’t trust Rahm and got him axed from the W.H. Hillary has always shown better judgment then her husband – she knew who the snakes were.

  47. The “redneck” comment by Palin (from previous thread) is priceless and much better when you hear it. Here’s the audio from NPR. Palin’s comment is toward the end of the audio, starting at 3:40 and after she mentions Gretchen Wilson. Ignore the rest of the audio as it was another hatchet job from NPR. Listen to it, she’s really funny!

  51. Anywho, I’m off to bed now.
    Night everyone!!!

  52. What I want to now is, what kind of idiot would walk up to someone and insult them for no reason? No wonder children like Obama, they see his campaign as wish fulfillment for all of the things their parents say they should be too mature at age 7 to do.

  53. Well, RD, like so many thousands of former New Orleanians, my husband and I got the jump on everyone in an economic sense. My husband, a NOLA firefighter for 26 years, was forced to take early retirement just after Katrina because his health had been destroyed by his job (horribly botched, near fatal colon surgery just before Katrina was the final blow). We ended up losing about two-thirds of our income in one fell swoop. Firefighter pay in NOLA was rock bottom and over the years, my husband had worked tons of overtime so we could make it. Too, my business was tourist-dependent and the tourists were suddenly gone. There went my income.

Though we had nearly paid off our mortgage after years of frugal living, the cost of living in NOLA skyrocketed post-Katrina ($6,000 for homeowners insurance???), so we had to sell our house and leave town, not to mention a whole way of life. What very few Americans comprehend is that New Orleans was destroyed because the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built horribly substandard floodwalls which failed when they should not have.

So, my husband and I were failed by a) the federal government, b) the medical industry, and c) this country’s cavalier attitude toward those with blue collar employment, including those who are asked to put their lives on the line. For many years, we worked hard, paid our taxes, lived within our income. We were there for the rest of the country. But when our lives fell apart, the rest of the country was not there for us. We were simply told we shouldn’t have been living where we lived. We were told my husband’s destroyed colon was not legally actionable. Or rather it very much was, but we couldn’t afford the upfront expense of suing a horribly negligent surgeon and hospital. Basically, we were told that we were entirely expendable.

It was a hard lesson learned, but it was one I will never forget: this isn’t a culture which cares about rewarding anything much other than an ability to pile up riches upon riches. Except for those kindnesses which friends and family can spare, we are all pretty much on our own. So, the gods help us if we do have any kind of prolonged downturn. Middle class people, especially, do not like to hear this, because it’s too frightening: we are most often a country of devil take the hindmost.

I saw Hillary Clinton as our one chance of turning things around a bit, evening out the playing field somewhat. But, as we’ve seen, that idea was anything but welcomed. Instead, we have had Barack Obama foisted on us. If there’s anything I am certain of, it’s that he is the candidate of those who do not begin to comprehend what it means to be needy – and just plain out of luck.

  55. Obama: For the Arrested Develoment Case in All of Us!

  56. Hello everyone.

I’m doing my part by emailing ALL of FOX NEWS anchors and Lou Dobbs on CNN with ANY and ALL negative info I find out about Obama and his cult. If we ALL do this – or a least a good portion of us, the BETTER OUR CHANCES WILL BE THAT THE WHOLE COUNTRY will eventually see how Obama, his ideas/policies/his ‘spread the wealth’ around and see the type of HEATHEN, LOW-DOWN, CRUEL HATERS that are his ‘followers’.

Please help – email all the major news stations, and ESPECIALLY Fox News.

  57. Sorry, Kat. 😦

  58. RAhm E from Chicago?

Didn’t he vote for FISA and retroactive immunity?

Didn’t the telecom companies throw a few, like maybe eight thousand bucks into his campaign war chest?

P.S. A nice guy named Alan Augustson is running against him on the green party.

  59. Kat5 – Sorry about what happened to you and others who thought they knew the folkways of this country and found out the hard way that you didn’t. Actually none of us do anymore.

  60. Nijma – I think Rahm believes he has the inside track for Obama’s senate seat. It will get ugly in Illinois between Jackson and Rahm. I hope the Repubs have someone to run against those jerks.

  61. “Obama: For the Arrested Develoment Case in All of Us!”

^^ is more apropos to recent generations than prior (IMHO). Why? I don’t know, but something is terribly wrong (btw I’m 30-ish, so not talking down).

  63. Thank you RD, I loved Mary Poppins as a kid, even as an adult.

  64. This video posted earlier today on Obama is going viral.

It’s gone from just a few views earlier today to over 20,000 in just a few hours. It’s spreading like wildfire. The word is getting out about this interview Obama had in Chicago back in 2001 where he sang the praises of redistribution of wealth and wanted the US Constitution changed to force redistribution of more wealth.

Dude is sick! America will send Obama and his radical agenda back to Chicago where they belong!

  65. Rahm and Jesse Junior, interesting thought. They both do have national visibility within the party.

  66. Breaking…

Just checked over at Drudge and the Obama interview from 2001 (posted above) has made the front page!

    http://www.drudgereport.com/

Obama’s chickens finally came home to roost, and best of all, it is in his own words!

  67. Ironman, I just posted that same video on a back thread.

When they said Obama was socialist, his answer was “That’s r@cist”.

When they asked Biden the socialism question, well, he’s white , so he said “you can’t ask that question” and “we’re not going to give you any more interviews.”

Why didn’t they just say, “no we’re not socialist”.

At first i thought “distribution of wealth” just meant to get the money supply loosened up and in circulation so banks would be lending to other banks again, etc. But now I wonder. I belong to one of those churches that kicks around ideas about “social justice” every once in a while, so I know exactly what THAT means.

  68. Ironman, how surprising.

    It’s still October, isn’t it.

  69. Kat5. Your story is so sad.

” … this isn’t a culture which cares about rewarding anything much other than an ability to pile up riches upon riches. … we are most often a country of devil take the hindmost.”

How can people do better ? How can a vehicle such as the Confluence help turn around these attitudes?

  70. BIG BOLD HEADLINE over at the Drudge Report:

2001 OBAMA: ‘TRAGEDY’ THAT ‘REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH’ NOT PURSUED

Most of us knew Obama did not just make a slip of the tongue to Joe the Plumber. Obama has a radical agenda and has been planning and talking about it for years, kjust like hsi pal, William Ayres.

Thank God the audio of Obama’s interview was uncovered before the election!

The story is spreading on all the blogs tonight. Now Drduge it is the lead story on Drudge. it confirms the worst of what many people thought about Obama! I am hoping FOX and Hannity and O’Reilley and Greta will air the story later today.

Obama is on the run. Now is the time to for McCain to strike with the truth and knock Obama out by exposing Obama’s radical agenda that he’s held for many, many years!

The 2001 interview is in Obama’s own words. No hiding it anymore! It’s over for Obama if this goes mainstream and it sure looks like it is going to be front and center news now.

    NOBAMA!!

  71. Nijma, on October 27th, 2008 at 2:24 am

    Yep. Surprise, surprise 🙂

  72. we can only hope

  73. The redistribution thing could hurt Obama. I really don’t think it’s the kind of thing Mom and Pop in middle America want to hear nine days before an election.

  74. we can only hope

We can pray as well. I’m not a Republican but I would certainly greet them as liberators.

  75. Sarah Palin/Barbara West in 2012?

  76. From another blog tonight:

Some unbelievable audio from an interview between a Chicago public radio host and then-state senator Barack Obama.

Here him talk about the necessity for wealth redistribution. Here him bemoan the fact that the Supreme Court has not yet gone beyond the limits Obama acknowledges were put in place by the founding fathers to solve problems with “economic injustice.” Here him complain about the Constitution protecting citizens from the state instead of putting the state in charge of providing for the citizens.

Here him say that it’s a shame that the Constitution was not interpreted by the Supreme Court to bring about “redistributive change.”

“Socialist,” much like “fascist,” is a term that gets thrown around a lot in politics. When McCain and Palin invoked it against Obama the media was quick to label it “dirty politics.” But this is one instance when the label fits perfectly.

Barack Obama, however the persona his campaign handlers have created for him over the last two years may make you feel, is a socialist. Pure and simple. He wants to put the state in charge of caring for we citizens (and thus, by necessity, seizing from us our individualism and liberty) and he wants to fund that with punitive taxes on our most productive citizens (the ones who innovate, invest and create the most jobs/wealth for the rest of us).

Young people should be especially leery of this. Some who are in their 20’s like me may like the idea of Obama redistributing other people’s money to them now, but if they hope to get ahead in life and become successful they can count on Obama coming for their wealth. Because that’s what socialist policies do. They reward sloth and punish productivity, and do so through an overbearing series of government bureaucracies.

Are we really about to elect this guy President?

    NOBAMA!!

    Country Before Party!!

    McCain-Palin ’08
    Hillary ’12

  77. Some who are in their 20’s like me may like the idea of Obama redistributing other people’s money to them now…

I’m poor, and may die poor, but I never asked any politician to take from others at gunpoint to give money to me. What sort of person, other than a thief, would wish politicians to behave thus?

  78. It’s officially a recession – AC/DC are number 1 in Britain again:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/oct/27/acdc-music-recession

  79. johninca, on October 27th, 2008 at 2:59 am

Indeed. Obama’s agenda is too radical and too dangerous fro America! What Obama is trying to do is nothing but theft of the American Dream for millions of Americans!

I pray the mainstream media covers this story and that it gets out to the voters ASAP!

John, who said or wrote “gunpoint” ?!

The case against BO is strong enough without exaggeration. RD and others, on different posts here have said how redistribution of wealth is not inconsistent with Democratic principles. It’s against Republican sound bites, that’s for sure. Why the BO tape is so interesting now is that it is a political, not a moral, issue: it increases the pressure on him tremendously.

  81. Sigh. I’ve got a feeling we’re in for a world of trouble, and soon.

  82. AC/DC #1: I’m loving the new album, personally. And no, I did not go to Wal-Mart to buy it (you can get it online at acdc.com)

  83. What’s to say that the $250,000 mark will not be ENOUGH to cover all those ‘projects’ Obama wants to ‘give’ us – what’ll he do, keep lowering the higher tax income level to $150,000, then $100,000, then $75,000?

Why would ANY kid today WANT to go to college to ‘improve’ themselves when they’ll just have to turn around and distribute their wealth – and all those long, hard years of going to school and/or working at the same time to get an education, to others – ESPECIALLY the LAZY, WELFARE BUMS!

I have two kids working/attending college part-time and I wonder…WHY? We ALL wish our kids happiness and financial success, don’t we? I hope my kids ARE fortunate enough to make $250,000+, just the same as you wish for YOUR kids (or yourselves). But Obama is taking all of our incentives and our ‘the sky’s the limit’ belief and our “American Dream” AWAY FROM US!

  84. the hagiography in the NYT is revolting… it makes me wanna hurl…

  85. Wow. That Drudge headline is huge. Is THIS the October surprise? I don’t know if this is really going to have an effect but I think the Repubs can spin anything into a bad thing if they really want to. But it seems like Drudge wants to make this into big news.

Oh, and the Barack Obama in 2001 appeals to me more than the narcissistic flip-flopper has become. Do you also notice that his accent has changed since the 2001 interview?

I did, because when politicians take money from one and give it to another, they do it by force– and at times quite literally at gunpoint.

The comment wasn’t aimed at Obama specifically, since this particular form of theft is hardly unique to him. Actually, this is one area where I sympathize with Obama, due to the unique situation of black people in this country owing to the legacy of slavery.

  87. DisenfranchisedVoter –

Comments from the You Tube link that has the audio:

Drudge already has 70,000 hits in the middle of the night.

Comments on here are every 2 seconds.

Michele Malkin has in up on her site and it has beens set to all the news people.

Obama will be tap dancing like he never danced before in the morning.

God Bless our Constitution and our Country!!!

Thank God for answered prayers for the truth to come out before this election was over!!!

Yep, this is going to hurt Obama! It confirms what he and hsi campaign have been saying was not true about him. Just words? You damn right…YOUR WORDS OBAMA…YOUR WORDS!!

  88. RD and others, on different posts here have said how redistribution of wealth is not inconsistent with Democratic principles.

As a guest on her blog, I won’t attack RD. I have a moral problem with “redistribution,” whether Republicans or Democrats do it. The bailout is an example of where both parties do it. This is why I am not a Republican, although I fervently hope the Republicans win this election.

  89. Looks like Quarterback Barry threw a fourth quarter interception. I certainly hope some Republican linebacker returns it for a game-saving touchdown.

  90. Obama is indeed talking about MANDATORY REPARATIONS and that redistribution of wealth is an administrative task in 2001. Obama’s radical agenda is dangerous fro America!

Good link hear to read all the text of the interview and hear the audio as well:

    Excellent! 🙂

Speaking of Quarterbacks, John Elway endorsed McCain-Palin and even campaigned with Johnny Mac in Colorado on friday.

  92. Well, well – let’s see how this plays out before we get too excited.

My guess is that he will make an announcement tomorrow morning that says something to the effect of that radio interview being “boneheaded” and that he doesn’t actually believe that anymore.

And the media will accept it and that’s that.

Sorry to sound gloomy but that is how it has been the whole time. I think our only hope is for Katiebird to become a BO supporter (her words, as everyone she supports loses).

Ah, good old John Elway. Strangely enough, this gay woman used to find him sexy. He and Joe Montana – oh yeah, baby.

  93. Holy cow! Foxnews.com has a DIRECT LINK to that youtube video/audio of BO’s redistribution beliefs! Straight to it, from the front page – no story in between to stop it or slow it down!

    Go Fox!!

This world has turned upside down when I find myself cheering for Fox.

  94. As posted on NQ here is the latest denigration of Sarah Palin. There are no words.

FOX has a link to that “redistribution” clip? LOL! Obama IS an Oct. surprise!

Just remember that Obama has his half-hour pre-election “state of the union” address where he will disembowel every word of every statement he has ever made of any semantic content. His every statement is ecumenical in the extreme; they could mean anything. He will probably toss himself under the bus just to get elected, and the media will cancel game coverage so that they can prostrate themselves before him obsequiously adoring him…

“It was a speech that JFK could only have hoped to have delivered… blah blah blah…”

  95. My guess is that he will make an announcement tomorrow morning that says something to the effect of that radio interview being “boneheaded” and that he doesn’t actually believe that anymore.

If Obama loses a point or two, the interview was inartful. If he loses three or more points, he may well promote it to “boneheaded.”

What else can he say, “that wasn’t the Barack Obama I knew?”

  96. Yeah, john, that’d be about right – I forgot he uses that as an excuse quite a bit. Has to disavow himself, yeah, but he will probably do it.

On another note, the first person who wakes up who has the power to delete tr0ll work needs to head to the previous thread (the Chicago thugs one) to do some clean-up near the end (around 0300 +).

  97. Wow. It really does seem like the wealth redistribution youtube video is getting a ton of attention already. That video will likely have a million or more by this evening. I don’t know if the New York Obama Times and MSNBO will even talk about it but who cares. FOX News has more viewers and as long as they, DRUDGE, and other news outlets keep it in the news for the next week, it might help shave off a point or two from Obama which might be all that McCain needs. I really don’t care for the video because I am a liberal progressive but I don’t like Obama and anything that will hurt him in the eyes of most Americans who aren’t liberal is okay by me. Especially when the Repubs don’t even have to smear him since the evidence is in that audio clip.

  98. I also love how FOX has a link straight to the youtube question, lol. Here is the link for those of you just waking up and wondering what we are discussing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iivL4c_3pck

  99. “anything that will hurt him in the eyes of most Americans who aren’t liberal is okay by me.”

That’s about how I feel. Why, oh why, didn’t a few more superdelegates see through Barack?

Never mind, don’t answer. Let’s just keep trying to look forward.

  100. scrubs57 it looks like only 17 [ledge delehates had to see through obama and we would not be here!!

  101. sorry typos-

it looks like only 17 pledge delegates had to see through obama and we would not be here!!

I think if Mr Obama wants to redistrubute the wealth he should start with his family and Mr Soros and Mr Rezko and Mr Ayers! why not “spread that wealth around”!

  102. New thread up

  103. fuzzbear, I agree. If I could actually believe anything that Obama has said in the past, he might have my vote right now. I know people like Obama who call themselves “socialists”. I know a few who graduated from Harvard and currently live in homes like the one Obama and his family own in safe, upper-class suburbs. And like Biden, they don’t donate any of their wealth to charities nor do the volunteer to help others. So much for distributing the wealth. As I said in the above post, I am a progressive liberal, so what Obama has said in the video does not bother me. I just don’t trust the guy, period. He is an opportunist and a hypocrite. If he is all about spreading the wealth, why doesn’t he give the millions of dollars Rezko helped him save on his mansion and use it to help his poor constituents who live under his slumlord friend? Donating thousands to Rev. Jeremiah Wright so he can build his million dollar retirement home doesn’t count.

  104. I can’t see where it matters that FOX has a link to this clip…after all they also seem to think Ayers is “huge” yet virtually no one else (including me) does.

If CBS, NBC, and ABC make it an issue, it might matter but…are we holding our breath for that? Plus BO will jus tsay it was all theoritical, just “senior lecturer” type stuff to make people think.

I hate to see people get thier hopes up yet again that any unpleasant truth about BO will be touted anywhere beyond FOX and Drudge.

Alas, I can jsus hear the media a few years down the road, sayign “Gosh, maybe we were a bit too quick to jump on board here…”..just as they did, far too late, with Bush and Iraq.

  105. Oh, and as for wealth redistribution and “speradign it around” on amore personal level, we van look to the Obama’s charitable contributions, which woudl take us at best to Jeremiah Wright..who should be the association that is at issue, not Ayers.

The Obamas didn’t seem too intersted in spreading THIER wealth around, did they?

  106. Hah, and sorry for the typos, ntotmuch sleep here and no coffee, and dyslexic fumble-fingers. But several of us seem to have had the same thought at the same time…BO is into spreading OTHER peopel’s wealth around, not his own.

  107. I just spent over twenty minutes in writing a lengthy diatribe and venting about my feelings on BO! So? Will rewrite later…but keep remembering that sixty years ago today the headlines wrote DEWEY WINS and we all know where that went…so? I will not give up hope until the last dog is hung…but I did want to post that…

BO SCARES THE LIVING HELL OUT OF ME…NO ONE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE RAISED THE MONEY AMOUNTS THAT HE HAS…AND HAVE DONE IT LEGITIMATELY…WHO IS BEHIND HIM??????
