Joe Biden: Huh?!

Be Afraid! Be Very Afraid!

Be Afraid! Be Very Afraid!

I really don’t get this. Is Joe Biden a secret PUMA? Is he wishing that McCain had chosen him instead of Sarah Palin? Or worse, does he think this type of speech actually HELPS the Senator from Illinois?

ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., on Sunday guaranteed that if elected, Sen. Barack Obama., D-Ill., will be tested by an international crisis within his first six months in power and he will need supporters to stand by him as he makes tough, and possibly unpopular, decisions.

“Mark my words,” the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

“I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate,” Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. “And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”

Not only will the next administration have to deal with foreign affairs issues, Biden warned, but also with the current economic crisis.

“Gird your loins,” Biden told the crowd. “We’re gonna win with your help, God willing, we’re gonna win, but this is not gonna be an easy ride. This president, the next president, is gonna be left with the most significant task. It’s like cleaning the Augean stables, man. This is more than just, this is more than – think about it, literally, think about it – this is more than just a capital crisis, this is more than just markets. This is a systemic problem we have with this economy.”

(snip)

“I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know, so I’m not being falsely humble with you. I think I can be value added, but this guy has it,” the Senate Foreign Relations chairman said of Obama. “This guy has it. But he’s gonna need your help. Because I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, ‘Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?’ We’re gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I’m asking you now, I’m asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you’re going to have to reinforce us.”

“There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, ‘Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don’t know about that decision’,” Biden continued. “Because if you think the decision is sound when they’re made, which I believe you will when they’re made, they’re not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they’re popular, they’re probably not sound.”

Okay, so let’s recap. Here’s what Joe is saying:

1) If you elect John McCain, the international community won’t be “testing” him. But if you elect Barack Obama, you’re going to have an international crisis within the first six months.

2) You’re not going to like what we do in response, but you should support us anyway, and make sure all your friends do also. In fact, no one is going to like it, and that’s what makes it right.

3) And the economy is going to suck too, so get ready for the tax hike. (Toldja!)

I must repeat, HUH?

Senator Biden, a word to the wise: It is not always good to say everything that goes through your head. Sure, you might be looking ahead to post-January, and seeing a lot of hard times ahead. You might think that Achmadinejad, Pooty-Poot or some other dictator type will try to pull something on a President Obama. But why in heaven’s name would you say these things out loud?

Does the Vice Presidential nominee not remember how Bush and Cheney used this type of fearmongering against John Kerry in 2004, to great effect? Cheney said this in September of 2004:

“It’s absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on Nov. 2, we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we’ll get hit again and we’ll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States,” Cheney told about 350 supporters at a town-hall meeting in this Iowa city.

I wanna know what is in that Kool-Aid, because it’s apparently turning Joe Biden into Dick Cheney.

What do you think?

  2. Well, he’s right about the Augean stables. Plus, it’s a relief to have a potential VP who even knows what the Augean stables are.

  3. Ok, fundamentally speaking, regardless of who gets elected…they will be put under some serious pressure. it is not as if picking McCain will help avert crisis, while Obama’s election will herald a new set of plagues.

Tax hikes, on the surface, always seem like a bad idea. Who really wants their taxes hiked? Really though, it’s the best solution for the economy. Tax cuts never seemed to get the economy out of any number of ruts it has experienced. Nonetheless, in this case, most the country will be getting tax cuts, not hikes, under Obama.

The economy will suck because it will still be reeling from years of Republican deregulatory policies, it’s not as if it will sit up straight if Obama or McCain gets elected. It will take time to recover.

Great blog, btw, you make some very good arguments. 🙂

  4. Hmmm…way to look at the silver lining, NBFH!

    😉

  5. sospoke –

Ok, fundamentally speaking, regardless of who gets elected…they will be put under some serious pressure. it is not as if picking McCain will help avert crisis, while Obama’s election will herald a new set of plagues.

Absolutely. Then why did Biden say exactly the opposite?

  6. The problem with Augean stables analogy is that the producers of the filth in the stables are supposed to be immune. That is why the filth built up in the stables in the first place.

Obama will continue that immunity where McCain is proposing to change the way things are done in Washington, we will know names…

  7. reference to the Augean stables notwithstanding — the DNC has a lot of nerve calling Palin “stupid” when this is their VP — he is saying an Obama presidency is going to suck, be unpopular & the only reason the rest of the world “wants” Obama because they know he is weak — all true, granted, but not exactly the best way to create confidence in the voters.

  8. Angie – Can you imagine Palin saying these things about a McCain administration?!

    I think not.

  9. madamab — exactly — so how come she is the “stupid” one & Biden is the “wise tested warrior”? Oh yeah, he has the penis.

  10. Joe Biden should follow Ron White’s advice:

“Next time you have a thought, let it go.”

  11. Biden: Open mouth, insert foot. Bringing the discussion back to one of McCain’s supposed strengths is insane just two weeks away from the election!

    They are all nuts!!

  12. No Blood, you probably can’t be in the US Senate for more than like FIVE MINUTES before you learn what the Augean Stables are.

Those blowhards love themselves some Greek/Roman Metaphor

    Herculean Tasks
    Draconian Measures
    Casting the Die
    Crossing the Rubicon

    screwing the pooch.

    oh wait, that’s Amerkin innit?

  13. PJ – No kidding!

Isn’t it weird how this story is going to completely annihilate the P*well endorsement, which was supposedly such a great “win” for Obama?

He couldn’t have torpedoed Barack more effectively if he had tried.

  14. “screwing the pooch”

I believe that was what former Senator Rick Santorum said would be the next step after legalizing gay marriage.

  15. Is the whole entire world a game rigged so that Obama will be the winner?

  16. “Is Joe Biden a secret PUMA?”

No, he is just a f (fill in the blank) idiot.

  17. Biden is just another one of those insufferable pr*cks who just cannot help himself. Always going one step too far without censoring his words. They flow out of there like a bad case of Montezuma’s Revenge.

You all know the type: “You look lovely! What a flattering dress, it does so much for your figure! And your hair, fantastic! By the way, aren’t you pleased you decided on those electrolosis treatments?” Yikes!!!

  18. Funny how my knowledge of greek mythology has never come up in a job interview. Little did I know what an ace I was holding….

  19. PJ – LOLOLOLOLOL!

  20. Backtrack is speaking. Time to run vacuum cleaner, dishwasher, and garbage disposal.

  21. Isn’t it amazing how Obama’s supposedly superior “judgment” is nowhere to be found? Why in the world would he pick Gaffetastic Joe to be his VP?

OTOH, no one else seemed to want the job. Hee hee hee hee…

  22. Diarrhea of the mouth! Very telling and hightly factual.

  23. PJ:

“Wow, you don’t sweat much for a fat girl!”

  24. Holy Guacamole!

More GOP rats are endorsing Teh Precious:

  25. one of my fav chars from LOTR is Sam Gamgee’s father, known as The Gaffer.

Can’t feel much fondness for old joe though.

  26. If this is the BO campaign’s attempt to lower expectations, perhaps they should get someone else to do it. Yikes!

    Great recap madamab!

  27. McCain is promising to send us money and Obama is promising jobs. Aye yi yi yi yi!

  28. One of the first things we teach sales people is to let the client do most of the talking – Know when to shut up apparently that’s a class Joe never took

  29. Trying to keep up with two posts at once is hard. I am also attempting to chew gum and work. Both posts are great!!

  30. I love this post! Biden is the gift that keeps on going.

BTW, Albright is now out on the campaign trail telling us what Biden really meant. lol first we had what Obama really meant, now we have what Biden really meant.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/21/video-albright-on-biden/

  31. BTW look at what passes for art in NYC these days.

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/Demonizing_Palin.html

  32. Joanelle, no one ever listened to Joe before. He is reeling right now from all the attention. Maybe he is saying these things to get in the news more. His ego has never been stroked harder.

  33. Kim – given what I know about you, you should have no problems doing both, plus juggling plates with both hands and feet!

    🙂

I tried to ask Gary to move his post to a different time, since I haven’t posted in a while…but I guess he is not reading his email.

    😉

  34. The Augean stables simile conveniently glosses over the role that Democrats have in the big honking pile of @#&$. I consider them co-owners and I just tune out the convenient blaming of everything in the world on everyone else.

OTOH, who knows, maybe it doesn’t gloss it over. Who knows what Biden means.

This still strikes me as the weirdest part: “And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him.”

  35. hey madamab…don’t know what happened, but I posted something a bit ago and didn’t see anything, then had to run off to ameeting with a client. when I came back, I saw your post below mine. I pulled mine and will put it up in a bit…sorry bout that.

  36. Mawm, LOL. Poor Joe is practically setting himself on fire and the MSM refuses to notice. Meanwhile the minute Palin sneezes it’s all over the headlines.
That’s gotta do something to a guy’s ego.

PS What happened to Gary’s thread?

  37. Oh good, this post is back! I just wrote on the other one that this one wasn’t up very long!
This is a BIG plus for McCain and I think we should ALL make as much of this as we can!
Once the country is back on board about foreign policy, “international crisis”, etc. it will be hard for them to push obama ahead of mccain. McCain won’t have to “prove” himself to anyone, no renegade country, terrorist group, etc. will have any doubts how that McCain will NOT fear responding for political reasons. I believe most people would feel safer with that old man McCain at the helm during an “international crisis”, rather than that young spritely mr. obama. I know I sure as hell would! Let’s leave the “testing” for the classroom, which is where mr. obama belongs anyway.

  38. Between that picture and “gird your loins” I’m not even taking the looming apocalypse seriously.

  39. Sorry gary – I don’t know what happened either. I always check before posting anything, and I didn’t see yours before I hit “Publish.”

    Thanks for the assist! {{{gary}}}

  40. “And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him.”

WTF is he talking about? Within the community? What community?

  41. Looks like Murtha took a page from the Biden School of Stupid again. These people have been much too long at the fair!

  42. Obama/Biden Administration Agenda – Just train your eye to watch closely the bouncing ball!

  43. why oh why isn’t this a campaign ad already?????

  44. voter…i’ll put it back up in a little while. Seems like I was a little quick on the draw 🙂

  45. voter…i’ll put it back up in a little while. Seems like I was a little quick on the draw 🙂

  46. There is so much wrong with gaffe-a-day Joe’s statement. He’s bragging about himself then says he’s not being falsely ‘modest’, when he means he’s not being falsely arrogant. He lived up to two Dem stereotypes… elitist and tax/spend.

His whole rant creeps me out. He telling a room full of elite ‘he’ is going to screw the country and ‘he’ wants these people to keep their propaganda machines in place to soothe the little beasties (people).

As far as the tax increases? Keep your hand out of my pocket. Cut govt and expenses.

  47. Perhaps you’re onto something – Maybe Joe said yes to the VP position, then got on board and realized how bad it would be if O won – he couldn’t be more effective at torpedoing the campaign than he is right now.

  48. Sal – that picture of Palin is just disgusting. More misogyny from the wingnuts on the left.

    Sigh.

LOL, yes madeline, what biden said is “a statement of fact”, another one bites the dust. But more importantly, maddy managed to fit a nice plug for her book in there!

  50. TKR, well, Obiden was talking at a Seattle fundraiser, so my guess is he means the wealthy whole-foods-arugula OFB community.

  51. TheRealKim, on October 21st, 2008 at 11:37 am

Obviously he’s talking about an association of community organizers for reform now 😉

  52. madamab, on October 21st, 2008 at 11:40 am

I work 4 blocks from the place. I’m tempted to walk by and rip the thing off, cept I’m afraid there’s some sort of camera on me and next thing I know, I’ll wind up on dailykos vidz or something like that.

  53. double comments? i’m having a strange morning…

  54. You know what I will be so happy to see? All the Clinton loyalists being free to ream Obama a new one once The Precious loses on November 4th.

I am sure the Big Dawg will roar loudest of all, but it can’t make Albright happy to have to defend Biden. Blech!

  55. ainnj, on October 21st, 2008 at 11:40 am

lol yeah “statement of fact” just doesn’t really gelp it at all.

So now we have a “guarantee” and a “statement of fact”. Is Albright a PUMA or something? LOL

  56. I thought the deal was the whole world loves O and everyone would love us if we elected him. What happened to that? Who would want to give the Lightbringer a hard time? Are you just running out of stuff to say, Joe?

You might want to talk a stroll over to Cannonfire if you haven’t visited lately. Just sayin’.

  57. No one is holding a gun to anyone’s head to go out and shill for this moron.

  58. PJ –

These people have been much too long at the fair!

    LOL – (but true!!!)

  59. Sal – You do? I didn’t know you were a Manhattanite too!

When all this is over, we have to have a PUMA Manhattan cocktail party!

  60. WTF is he talking about? Within the community? What community?

Well, being Jewish, it sounds to me like he’s hinting that Obama intends to screw over Israel and he’s going to need The Tribe to pass around the kosher Kool-Aid.

    YMMV.

  61. Years ago there was a song called “Chatterbox”. They should be playing this at all Biden rallies.

  62. One problem I have with Obama and Biden is that they tell one thing to the general public and another to the VIPs.

  63. BTW madamb,

kudos to you for digging up that quote from Cheney. Seems like some folks have real short memories.

Kinda like how the koolaid folks are touting the endorsement of the one guy who SOLD US ON THE IRAQI WAR!!

  64. Biden will be in Raleigh, NC tonight pretty close to where I am. I am tempted to go with my video camera just in case he makes another “brilliant” statement.

  65. All these obots saying Palin is “scary” and putting fangs and horns on her just makes me think they ARE scared of her. And I find that a back-handed compliment to her strength. I bet if she said “boo” to them they’d wet their pants.

  66. madamab, on October 21st, 2008 at 11:44 am

lol i actually live in Brooklyn. 90 minute commute to work everyday, ugh.

  67. this is OT (I’m da queen of OT) ….. but I’ve been thinking which can be very dangerous!…
that we do not need any october surprise to knock the campaigns for a loop… I’m starting to think that it will be best for McCain if he wins WITHOUT any revelations because the other side will not accept the defeat if they believe BO has been unfairly sidelined…..
the whole idea of a surprise has both comforted me with its impending arrival and kept me up at night for its failure to appear… but now I’m thinking that as usual the undecideds will be the tipping point here and they are not buying into the hopeychangeytransformational thing… in the end experience and trust will win out.

  68. What Joe doesn’t know is that if BO actually gets elected & a crisis happens BO isn’t going to be asking Joe for the time of day. At this point, I don’t know if that is good or bad.

  69. The way they tried to play up that “endorsement” made me pine for the day when Charlie Manson or OJ finally endorse. Who the hell cares?

As for the “change” in Obama’s theme: it only illustrates how he can turn on a dime.

  70. Mawm – Go if you can!!!

Kool-Aid is an excellent memory eraser, I’ve found. Some drinkers don’t even remember from one day to the next, much less who sold us the Iraq war or who threatened us with death for voting Democratic in the first place.

  71. Joe the Plumber and Sarah are us. This scares them since these two do not fit that snugly into their rarefied worlds. I mean, how would Sally Quinn be able to serve more than one course if neither one is quite sure which of the many forks to use?

  72. angie,

You are spot on, the Biden Obama relationship must be getting pretty strained at this point. He is supposed to be helping. So, my guess is that since this was a pricey event that some of their supporters are not all on board.

  73. IndigoGrrl, Obama ain’t gonna win. You can take it to the bank.

    a solvent one that is.

  74. IndigoGrrl,

I’m beginning to think that Biden is the October surprise. I mean, seriously, this is beginning to be like one of the confluence’s plays with Biden being a hidden saboteur sent from the Clinton and McCain secret alliance (he is good friends with both BTW).

Can we get a play up with this with some sort of GodFather theme?

  75. Mawm: I want so much to take you at your word. But this election has been filled with so much treachery and letdown that I cannot trust anything.

  76. angie – Everyone who supports Obama ends up, eventually, under the bus.

Joe Biden will be no different. Wait until Obama blames him for the inevitable Obama implosion on Election Day!

  77. btw, repub at work who was leaning towards Obama told me today that he’s back to his own party after reading Joe Biden’s words. He doesn’t think Obama is equipped to deal with a crisis.

  78. BTW,

Braney Frank actually said that he wants tax increases. We know it’s gonna happen, but you’re not supposed to say it aloud.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/21/video-barney-frank-wants-more-taxes/

  79. My first thought when I heard Joe’s dire warning was that we are going to be attacked by someone, some group or some country, here in our country or somewhere where we have interests, military or otherwise, and since everybody is going to say obama is making the wrong decision, I am guessing obama will not retaliate either with our military or by economic sanctions,, etc. Instead he will meet and chat with the terrorist org or rouge nation, without preconditions, and chat.
    but that is just me.

  80. Sal – I’ve been thinking about just that very thing for my next play.

    👿

I guess he thinks that his penis fell off.

sorry, just a reference to one of the more funny blog titles I’ve seen here.

  83. madam,

I’ll be looking forward to it 😀

  84. Julie and Angie – Really? I didn’t get that impression. I thought Biden was talking about the AA community. But then again, I didn’t take the location of the event into account.

    If you’re right, wow!

  85. Can someone please release the video I just posted?

And, why does Barney, Nancy, Reid, …………….. still have jobs???????????

  86. This morning the Today show (NBC) was on but the volume was down and I was geting breakfast and I noticed they showed , for the election highlights, clips of Obama, Hillary, McCain, Palin.
    Not one clip of Biden.
It’s like he’s not even running for office … just running his mouth off.
For some strange reason though, I don’t dislike Biden (despite his being the MBNA senator). I think it’s because I feel like I know where he stands and what he is.

  87. angienc, me too

  88. I believe Obama’s big strategy for the middle East is to make nicey nice with the Muslims by sticking it to Israel.

  89. If Biden is psychic he should get to work to prevent this six month crisis.

If he’s just in on the “plans”, then he should come clean for the good of the Country; especially since he KNOWS we won’t like what is being planned to resolve it.

Think of all the lives that would have been saved if someone could have prevented the 9/11 terrorist attack by knowing 6 months in advance it was going to happen. Or to know that we wouldn’t like the solutions that would be put in place to prevent another one. To keep silent is treasonous.

I wonder if biden will become sick and have to back out as vp. That will be hard as they just released his medical reports but he could have a serious case of hoof in the mouth disease. He has been showing all the symptons for years.

  91. angie and julie,

that puts things in a whole new perspective.

can we predict that Iran will attack Israel or something similar? and that Biden is basically admitting that we won’t do anything to help?

  92. All this talk about the Bradley Effect will now be overshadowed by the Biden Effect for future elections. It will be attached to any candidate going forward who does not know when to shut his/her big mouth.

  93. Mawm,

it would tie in nicely with the politico article I read about him before where all his ex clasmates said that he always wanted to be liked.

  98. ainnj: I have heard remarks to that effect, but when he refers to community, I can’t help but think that this could be something domestic he is referring to.

  99. ainnj – If Biden steps out, they will probably ask Hillary to step in.

She should say NO, not unless Obama steps out too!

Mamw — agree 100% — BO’s plan is to “appease” the other middle eastern countries (after all, he did say “No one has suffered more then the Palestinians”) while pretending that somehow benefits Israel. I can’t believe even one Jewish person is voting for BO. The kool aid is strong.

  102. Let’s have no more mention of penises falling off, okay?

  103. When I hear “community” referred to by political operatives I automatically think of the black, Hispanic, Jewish, and gay communities. Unless he was suggesting that we are going to war with Mexico or that Rupaul is planning on a coup, I would think the “community” he is referring to may be the Jewish community.

And Jesse Jackson, Sr. more or less referred to something like this last week.

  104. ainnj – If Biden steps out, they will probably ask Hillary to step in.

    Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Se. Biden, please hold on to your historic place in this historic ticket just for a coupel more weeks, pretty pretty please. Until your ticket loses?

  105. Pat J — did you see your man Lou Dobbs debunking the Bradley effect last night? You know how to pick ’em.

  106. Remember when Cheney was chosen as VP and everyone thought of him as the babysitter? Now along comes Biden and everyone will think of him as the crazy uncle who shows up on the holidays producing massive groans on the rest of the relatives.

  107. angienc: I did. And Bill Schneider really did not want to admit the truth of that event. Love Lou!

  108. Heh – even Kool-Aid drinkers CBS is admitting that McCain is doing better as the election draws nearer.

54% of Independents now say McCain will offer more change than Obama.

Carol – Michelle Obama is going to take Barack’s place on the campaign trail, due to his impending visit to his ailing grandma in Hawaii. You think Biden is gaffe-tastic? Wait till Michelle gets the mike!

I sure hope Mrs. Dunham is all right. Sending her healing vibes.

  109. Does anyone think that Obama could use higher weapons in a response? And that is why Biden is warning about at first we would think it was wrong, like a last resort type weapon.

Do you recall his mentioning if they bring a knife we will bring a gun? His ‘secret’ for VIP only speech has me really concerned and the explanations given have not been as detailed as Joe Biden’s remarks.

  110. I hope BO’s grandma gets better, and I hope BO feels a TINY bit guilty for throwing her under the bus for Rev. Wright’s sake. Whom he later also threw under the bus.

  111. Pat J. — Bill Schneider is a tool! Lou asked him how could it be that BO was outspending McCain 4 to 1 & McCain be the one closing in. Bill says “Bradley effect” Lou tears Bill a new one debunking the alleged “Bradley effect” and actually saying that he could not believe otherwise respectable journalists were using it as if it was true. And Bill says: “Yes, you are right. There was a lot more going on in that election (basically recapping everything Lou said to debunk the Bradley effect). I’m still LMAO over it. God bless Lou!

  113. angie: But if Lou had not pressed that remark would have laid there like it was fact. This is what is so horrendous about the press. Liars and cheats.

  114. The last two sentences in the Biden quote are almost complete gibberish:

“Because if you think the decision is sound when they’re made, which I believe you will when they’re made, they’re not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they’re popular, they’re probably not sound.”

    I don’t think he’s clever enough to be a PUMA. I think he’s just a DOOFUS.

  115. OT – Check out Somerby today. He is firing on all eight cylinders, and has a delightful take-down of fauxgressive Josh Marshall.

  116. Votermom — I don’t know what BO’s “plan” is other than appeasement. Biden knows it. The rest of the world knows it. I’ve been trying to argue with Obots who think electing BO is such a good idea because the rest of the world (basically France & Germany, like that is “the rest of the world”) likes him that the reason the rest of the world likes him is because they think he will be good for them not us or our allies — for them. To me it sounds like “standing down” while Israel gets the shaft not retaliating — because I think that if Iran attacked Israel the US retaliating would not be an “unpopular” response. I know I’d be for it.

I also read that Bush has promised limited support should Israel attack Iran.

Sorry, maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see any chance that Iran will attack Israel. If anything, it will be the other way around.

Great point angie. What’s good for them is not always good for us.
Case in point, my friends in India & the Philippines always prefer politicians who favor outsourcing — of course, because they benefit.
That’s related to one of the reasons Obama’s close ties with Kenya has always bothered me — the President should have his first and undivided loyalty to the nation. There can’t be any conflict in his heart.

heh, a few weeks back I was having a discussion at my daughter’s girl scout meeting with a friend and my friend was stating something to the effect that “neither of these clowns” (meaning obama and mccain) have a clue about the economy or how to fix it. I started to say clinton would’ve been a much better choice when another woman GIDDILY zipped over, having heard us talking about the election, and said with a HUGE grin on her face “oh, are you talking about that woman PALIN???? Can you believe McCain picked her” I could see she was just so excited to start smearing her so I immediately cut the conversation by saying “No, we weren’t but I actually have a lot of respect for her and for ANY woman who is brave enough to endure and take on the horrific smears and lies made against her and her children! I am so shocked by all the women, ESPECIALLY mothers of young girls, who have laughed and contributed to the sexist and violently misogynistic treatment that has been dished out by the MSM, the democratic party and silly celebraties first against Hillary Clinton and now against Sarah Palin. “

  126. Sarah Pallin has more experience than the does, he just reads a teleprompter well.

Reason the Republican VP candidate is more qualified for President that the democrat presidential candidate.

Question: What is America ‘s first line of missile interceptor defense that protects the entire United States ?
Answer: 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska National Guard.

Question: What is the ONLY National Guard unit on permanent active duty?
Answer: 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska National Guard

Question: Who is the Commander in Chief of the 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska National Guard?
    Answer: Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska

Question: What U.S. governor is routinely briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counter terrorism?
    Answer: Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska

Question: What U.S. governor has a higher classified security rating than either candidate of the Democrat Party?
Answer: Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska. According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets. She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

  132. New Post UP!!!

  133. Palin is talking about Biden’s “warning.”
“Thanks for the warning, Joe.” (her delivery is so wry, lol)

    She starts doing crisis scenarios:
    1) israel attacked
    2) invade pakistan
    3) iraq pull out before victory
    4) georgia – and invasion of ukraine
    5) what Obama worries about most — what Biden says at his next speech
    OMG she kills!!!!!!!!!!!

  134. After reading through the comments, I do think that the crisis resolution may very well be throwing Isreal under the bus. What does come as no surprise is the increase in taxes. May very well be that Obama’s publicized plan, where very few details have been revealed, will not be the “real” plan. Didn’t he say in one of the debates that due to the bail out his plans would change?

I guess according to Biden it is time to pass around the kool aide and open your wallets.

  135. Snap!

Sarah Palin is absolutely taking it to Obama-Biden! She is on fire and the crowd is loving it!

On the economy, foreign policy, now on Joe the plumber.

“Now is not the the to experiment with Socialism.”

Body blow after body blow. Sarah is hitting the target and firing on all cylinders in Reno today!!

  136. I am trying to decipher Biden’s remarks.

So, when Obama is elected, Achmed DinnerJacket will attack Israel. Especially since Jesse Jackson just gave him the green light with his recent pro-Iran, anti-Israel statement. The US will not back Israel, thus establishing a new Hope and Change for the Middle East mantra. Iran and Syria and the Palestinians are our friends. Israel is the new Axis of Evil.

Meahwhile, of course, the American Jewish community will be saying “WTF, what about all that money we gave you?”

So Biden’s response is perfectly reasonable. “Just bear with us, and you will see sunshine and daisies as we usher in a Bright New World.” No Israel, no Middle Eastern conflict. Easy.

  137. “Barack the wealth spreader.” LMAO!! LOVE IT!!!

  138. And I wonder, if that should happen, (throwing Israel under the bus) what our dear rabbis will say?

Unfortunately, they fear Palin more than O.

  139. Mlhath – An Axis with only one spoke!! Boy, the Precious is bad at math…

  140. This election has been a year-long roller-coaster ride that is going to come to a crashing halt in 2 weeks. I wonder all the riders and the operators will end up when it stops. Still absolutely NO telling.

  141. Palin’s the best speaker running, srsly. She’s a star.

    Piper is so cute.

  142. mlhath,

INdeed, but I think it will be even worse than that.

With Barack milk toast Obama at the helm, we’d be looking at a nuclear armed Cuba and Venezuela in the form of Russian missiles.

I have no doubt Russia would rise up and challenge America under an Obama administration. Russia, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, et al., they have ZERO respect for Senator Government. They know he is a weak leader and not ready to lead in a crisis.

Joe Biden is warning America about Obama for a reason. He knows Obama is not ready to be POTUS and would put America at great risk!

  143. gail, on October 21st, 2008 at 12:57 pm

then those rabbis are idiots for fearing the Evangelical over the Hamas-endorsed, 9/11 terrorist sympathizing fake Messiah.

I mean, have they not bothered to check that Evangelicals are probably the religious group whose support of Israel is second only to Jewish groups???

  147. gail, on October 21st, 2008 at 1:08 pm

which in order for that to happen, Israel must be restored. The rabbis don’t believe in Revelation, so why should they care about the motivation as long as the outcome helps them? Would they really willingly go for Obama because they don’t like the motivation? It’s almost like biting off your nose to spite your face.

or in more political terms, akin to McCain tossing PUMAs under the bus because he’s not sure if they’re voting for him or against Obama 😀

  148. Sal,

Long story. Dennis Prager often speaks of this subject. Funny, Prager was once recommended to be because he also writes about Judaism, but has become a disgraced person in the community because he is a Republican.

  149. votermom, re: ” And I find that a back-handed compliment to her strength. I bet if she said “boo” to them they’d wet their pants.”

A Democrat employee, a PUMA in deed if not in name, toured a new employee through our computer room, introduced him to me, and said, “Watch out for (mamapajamas). She’s one of those Republicans, and if you don’t mind her, she and Sarah will beat your butt up!”

That brought a smile to me and a laugh from everyone who was hanging around.

  150. *sorry, that should be “recommended to me”

  151. mamapajamas, LOL!

  152. gail,

I’ll go google Dennis Prager right now 🙂

  153. Madamab,

I haven’t finished reading all the comments yet, but I think I’d have to put Biden’s and Murtha’s comments in the same category with Jesse Jackson’s remarks the other day. Except, I think in Jackson’s case, it might have been deliberate and in the case of Biden and Murtha, I think these remarks are a reflection of unconscious anger and hostility.

Biden has already made a lot of derogatory comments about Obama–even before the primaries when he talked about Obama being “clean” and “articulate. I think Biden was pushed into being Obama’s VP because nobody else wanted it and he needed the foreign policy creds. But an older guy like Biden who always wanted to be President has to unconsciously resent Obama’s easy path to the top. Remember when he said Hillary would have been a better choice? The guy will do it again if they let him out in public.

As for Murtha, I could buy that it was a “mistake” if he had only said it once. But not now. Murtha supported Hillary, and I’ll bet he resents having to get his constituents to vote for Obama.

  154. Biden’s gaffe’s: remember the one about 7-11’s and Indian immigrants? In context, I see he was trying to praise them, but it just came out all wrong.

If he wasn’t on the ticket, would he be called the “R” word? lol

    So…is he permanently benched?lol

  155. BB – Thank you for weighing in. I respect your professional opinion on this subject very much!

So your choice in the poll would be “Secret PUMA.”

    🙂

  156. Speaking of endorsements, I heard that Mark Foley told some friends yesterday that he voted for Obama. LOL!

  157. Madamab,

I think it’s unconscious, so I think it’s a secret from Biden too.

  158. On Biden’s remarks: Sounds like something he would have said during the primaries when he was still a candidate! (or maybe he did say that about Obama then). But I’ve often thought that an Obama presidency would trigger a terrorist attack within a few weeks or months of inauguration (just a gut feeling) and all those middle eastern nutcase leaders praising him and wanting him for president…uhh…that’s probably why. Strike while the country is vulnerable and under the control of a weak puppet. Makes sense to me. I hope McCain sent his buddy Joe a thank you email…

On another topic: I’ve been off the blogs a few days because I was visiting my mother in (central) Michigan. The Barky campaign was carpet-bombing ads on TV there…mainly the one comparing McCain to Bush. However…interestingly…the McCain-Palin yard signs were outnumbering the Obiden signs by about 3:1.

I’m sending in my CA vote-by-mail ballot today – one more vote for McCain-Palin!!

  159. gail – Biden WAS called a r*cist because of his “clean and articulate” remarks.

    By Markos.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  160. I think Murtha’s up for re-election, so it’s really flabbergasting that he’d call his own constituents names.
But then he’s had that seat forever so I guess he’s safe.

  161. Yeah, interesting that Messiah is giving Biden a “pass” by accepting him, yet we are all r-cists. LMAO!

    Bite me O!

    Bite me O!

    —————–

only if you’re a male and in a limo with him, with cocaine involved, “sweetie” 😉

    /end sarcasm

  163. Why would anyone vote for Obama if his own VP is predicting an international crisis in the first 6 months of his administration? We have two wars and a financial crisis to deal with. Isn’t that enough?

Sadly, Biden is likely correct that someone will try to challenge The One. It flies in the face of Obama Kool Aid drinkers who think that because we have elected an African American as president, the world will love us. John (“Because he’s black.”) Kerry tops the list.

  164. McCain bringing up Biden’s words.
Talks about Biden mentions JFK Bay of Pigs, says he remembers it, he was on the USS Enterprise.
“We don’t need a president who will be tested — I have BEEN tested.”

  165. votermom,

that should be his new slogan.

  166. The Obote misunderestimated Palin. I knew she had something McCain was lacking. She has a charismatic, killer delivery. She is gifted with keen political instincts. And she’s popular, in the Wicked sense of the word:

    Celebrated heads of state,
    Or specially great communicators
Did they have brains or knowledge?
    Don’t make me laugh
    They were POPULAR

It helps that she’s a quick study

  167. weird, do you think Murtha and Biden deliberately planned to sabotage Obama for his strong armed tactics? Maybe they don’t want to be holding the bag when the recession hits

  168. Well, I just heard some audio of a Mac spokesperson (from yesterday) really giving it to Andrea Mitchel (NBC)l for flat out not airing any of the controversial Biden remarks.

“I thank you for your editorial advice.”

  169. Obama may be popular, but he’s not sound.

I sure hope McCain gets right on it and makes a commerical using these remarks made by Joe-the-six-term-senator.

  170. NBC is reporting that Obama’s lead has widened 52% to 42%. Respondents to the poll are saying that the reason is Sarah Palin. They said it’s because they don’t believe that she’s ready to lead. I just find that a bizarre explanation for for swing towards Obama. I can understand many ideological reasons someone might pick Obama over McCain. HOw any one can believe that Obama is ready to lead and Palin is not baffles me.

  171. Riverdaughter,

After hearing Biden and Murtha’s remarks, sabotage was my first thought as well.

Well, he’s right about the Augean stables. Plus, it’s a relief to have a potential VP who even knows what the Augean stables are.

Right, because since Sarah Palin is a Republican , she couldn’t possibly know this. Only Democrats have any knowledge of Greek myths, or even know how to read, or even know what books are in the first place.
(And telling Republicans they are stupid and ignorant has been an incredibly successful way to win elections; just look at the last 60 years).

    /sarcasm

  173. Oh, and a followup:

Studies show that people who use “SAT words” and such are judged by most people to be less intelligent than those who don’t, the reason being that people look at those individuals they can understand as being more intelligent than people they can’t. (Bill and Hillary, by the way, have known this for some time.)

  174. I wonder how many people googled “Augean stables” over the last few days… I wonder how many people in Biden’s audience that day knew what he was talking about * and then had to tell their neighbors how to spell “Augean.”
