NO WE WON’T on PUR tonight at 8PM EST

Tonight, Heidi Li Feldman and Marc Rubin from The Denver Group and Democrats for Principle before Party will join me to talk about Greeks, Hubris and Self-Fullfilling Prophecies.  It all start’s tonight at 8:00PM on PUMA United Radio (PURrrr)

Catch up on your Greek mythology by reviewing this lesson from Tom Lehrer:

152 Responses

  1. Heh, heh. That’s pretty funny.

Still doesn’t change my mood about the violence towards women, though.

  2. Heidi Li Wonky Goodness!!!!!!!!

  3. I’m still trying to recover from the effect of That Video in the previous thread. It really, really shook me…

  4. Harriet Christian & Heidi Li – CALL IN!

    347-539-5420

  5. Palin just gave SNL its highest ratings in 14 years. Obama’s 15 minutes of fame will be over soon.

  6. The Tate video [whoever he is] nearly made me upchuck. My newspaper today featured a sophmoric editorial cartoon with hateful people yelling things like ‘kill him’ and the last frame shows McCain saying, “My friends.” It’s not bad enough that the media lie about so-called rac*st events that never happened – they also ignore the very real hate or violence that either happens or is depicted every day against Sarah.

  7. On ABC news they put up the tax plan comparisons.Looks like I am screwed under the Obama plan.

    But in general:

If you make up to $18,725, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will give you a tax cut of $65, while Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will give you a tax cut of $567.

If you’re in the second tax quintile, earning between $18,725 and about $37,000 a year, McCain will give you a $259 tax cut, Obama will give you a $892 tax cut.

If you’re in the third quintile, earning between about $37,000 and almost $66,000, McCain will give you a $608 tax cut, Obama will give you a $1,118 tax cut.

If you’re in the fourth quintile, making between almost $66,000 and about $110,000, McCain gives you a $1,487 tax cut, Obama will give you a $1,264 tax cut.

If you’re in the top quintile, making above $110,000, McCain will give you a tax cut of $12,144 while Obama will raise your taxes $4600 more.

Here’s where the starkest differences come in. If you’re in the top 1 percent of wage-earners, making from about $602,000 to around $2.8 million, McCain gives you a $109,214 tax cut on average, while Obama raises your taxes on average by $121,689.

If you’re in the top 0.1 percent, making $2.9 million a year or more, McCain gives you a $577,148 tax cut, Obama raises your taxes $699,872.

So if you’re voting based on the tax proposals a candidate is making — there you go.

We’ll have more on this tomorrow a.m. on “Good Morning America.”

  8. ooops forgot to sign in as my new name afrocity

  9. I LOVE TOM LEHRER!!!!! When in graduate school in KY in the late 70’s the theatre dept. did a show, “Lehrer by Lehrer” with all his best stuff. I especially love “The Vatican Rag” too funny.

  10. Just came home from visiting Obot friends I’d been avoiding most of the year. Girlfriend’s hubby laced into me, saying that McCain had more terrorist connections than Bambi (something he said he read in Salon), etc etc. I smiled sweetly and said that at this point, I doubted anyone’s mind would change.
This is what I really was thinking: bad behavior cannot be rewarded.
And that’s what I would tell anyone who feels helpless and keeps hearing that Bambi is inevitable. Nixon was inevitable too, in 1972. And was gone within 2 years.
    Nemesis.

  11. I just saw one of the most effective ads from Mccain that I have seen (during Game 7 of the MLB playoffs!!!)…. It basically showed some people Obama has sent money to (Rezko was one)…. it ended with a question…. who do you trust to stop this wasteful/corrupt spending of taxpayer dollars…. “Congressional liberals?” (shows a picture of Pelosi/Reid)….” or him” (shows a picture of John Mccain)

  12. Regarding the Powell endorsement of Obama. Doesn’t anyone see the irony that this is a man who endorsed GW TWICE. Now he says that McCain is too much like Bush… and we’re supposed to have faith in his judgement? It would be funny if it weren’t so very sad.

Well, I’m a nobody BUT I spoke out (amongst my friends and family) against the invasion of Iraq and I voted against GW twice AND I’m endorsing McCain. So for all you folks who don’t want another 4 years like the last 8 you may want to give my endorsement serious consideration. 🙂

  13. Nothing is what it appears to be. Case in point, Barack Obama. Dude has more skeletons in his closet than a Halloween Party in Hell.

NQ has a new thread up detailing Obama’s relationship with yet another terrorist named Naomi Jaffe.

    Link: http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/10/19/naomi-jaffe-obama-fundraiser-ayers-compatriot/

Obama is running from the truth. He is running from his past. He is hoping the mainstream media has enough Americans hoodwinked and bamboozled to sneak out a win.

Obama saturates the airwaves with a carpet bomber mentality. He is spending millions to buy a 30 minute informercial that will delay the World Series. Obama has the million sbut his message is not resonating with many of the people that will decide the election in the swing states.

Obama is not who he appears to be.

Obama, his wife, and many of their friends, have a socialist agenda for America. It is so obvious that it is scary.

And to make matters worse, Obama, his campaign, and many supporters of Obama accuse Americans of being racists if they do not bow down before The One and kiss his ring.

Yesterday in San Francisco, Joe Biden played the race card from the bottom of the deck when he implied that undecided voters that will not vote for Obama are racists.

Just google Joe Biden Undecided and read all about it.

Joe Biden should issue an apology for making such an accusation! What a bunch of BS from that Senator!

With comments like Joe Biden made in san Fran, Biden is Obama’s “number two” in more ways than one!

The racism from the Obama campaign is starting to stink!

  14. I’m in moderation. Is it because I spelled out P*well’s name?

  15. Found this on the ABC blog about Joe Biden accusing undecided voters of being racists. It is worth the read:

Buying up “bad mortgages” to address the root of the problem is neither “socialist” nor “capitalist,” but rather necessary government intervention in a time of crisis.

Why? We have a financial crisis. Fix that and you still have falling housing values and declining consumer demand.

At the same time, we have a ballooning budget deficit; and a national debt which has more than doubled in 8 short years … the last 2 when the Democrats controlled the House and Senate.

The issue is who has the character and judgment to make the right calls in this time of crisis?

The problem with Obama is that he does not believe the way to recovery is to grow the economy.

Rather, he believes the way to solve our crisis is to “share the wealth around.”

That fundamental philosophy will not lead to recovery, rather it will lead to a long period of declining or very slow growth. Remember Jimmy Carter?

The Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 created a structural imbalance.

Obama is talking about allowing the taxes on the “rich” to expire, while giving welfare (woops, I am sorry, tax rebates) to the working poor.

Do you want a welfare check from the government? No.

    Do we want “PELROB?”

    Pelosi, Reid and Obama?

That is what we get if we elect Obama as President.

Or do we want someone who will put together a true national unity administration?

Like him or hate him, we know who Senator McCain is … a great man, who admits his faults.

A man who has served his country with honor and dignity.

A man who is offering himself for service again at a time of a very severe crisis.

A man who understands the need for action.

A man who has detailed his plans to govern and put them on the table.

But at the same time, a man who has said that he does not need the fame and is willing to listen to any good idea from any quarter, while giving credit where credit is due.

Do you see Senator Obama saying he will balance the budget in 4 years? Nope.

Senator McCain has made this commitment. That is his goal.

Yes, Obama is intelligent. Yes, Obama has an even “temperament.”

But what are his core values?

You can only determine those by looking at a man’s actions …

    Some recent examples:

A man who voted present more than 130 times in the Illinois Senate.

Why? Because he was unwilling to take a position.

A man who hid in the US Senate cloak room rather than vote on a resolution condemning the Moveon.org ad calling into question General Petreaus.

Why? Because he did not want to go against his base support group.

A man who wrote a letter to the Treasury with his concerns about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, rather than supporting legislation as Senator McCain which could have helped mitigate the present crisis.

Why? Because he did not want to come out against his party’s leadership.

How did he deal with being a 20 year member of a church whose Pastor preached Black Liberation Theology?

He denied ever hearing those “hateful words.” He only gave up his membership in the Church after a huge media storm and Father Wright’s Press Conference while running for President.

Hmm … does that sound genuine or disingenious and “staged?”

A man who said that he would accept public financing. Then he turned around and said “no” going back on his word.

Interesting that while McCain has disclosed all those who have contributed under $200.00, Obama has refused.

Why? Because we have people contributing multiple times, exceeding the limits under assumed names, etc., etc.

Now compare that with a man who was a prison of war, left for dead, suffering from horrible wounds, who refused early release because it was the right thing to do.

When you are President, you do not get to vote present, hide in the cloak room, simply write a letter, or “set up” your departure from your church when it becomes a huge liability, after being there for 20 years.

You need to be a leader and take action.

Senator Obama refuses to admit that he was ever wrong.

When an attack is hitting close to home, he calls it a “distraction” and then sends out the hit squad to smear his opponent, or even better says “he does not get it.” Right.

He decries a good idea when put forward by someone else (Clinton’s Housing proposal) and then later takes it as his own without any acknowledgment.

Senator Obama is a classic “go along, get along hard left Liberal politician” who is ruthless and cynical.

He will use anybody, do anything and say anything to achieve power.

Is that what we need at this time of crisis?

Or do we need someone whose true character has been tested time and again?

With the wisdom to understand that now is not the time for ideology?

But rather is it time for a reformer?

A person who can and will work with the Democrats, Republicans and Independents?

A person who will exercise good judgment, while putting his country first?

McCain is no saint. He will be the first to admit he is far from perfect.

But, he is honest and he is wise.

    Country First, indeed!!

  16. afrocity:

Do you have a link to that tax info? My hubby is still trying to make up his mind on who to vote for. That tax info will decide it for him.

  17. Of all the things to go after Obama on, the tax issue shouldn’t be one of ’em. At least not if you liked Hillary. However, whether or not you trust Obama to follow through with his tax plan is another issue.

  18. Oh my God! They have a HAKA challenge on Amazing Race!!

  19. Obama’s tax cuts are snake oil given our economic situation.

This bothers me, too. When violence is made invisible, and people powerless to bring attention to violence that powerful people don’t want to see, that makes for a violent movement.

  21. Britgirl,

This analysis — was on the ABC news site, which says please it is from the Tax Policy Center. There is also the tax credit for kids which McCain will double.

  22. This violent sexism from the Obots is just awful

  23. It should be publicized and Obama should be made to apologize

  24. You’re exactly right, Dee. And that’s what we should be talking about. He said things will have to be dropped and has yet to specify what he means by that.. No one is really going to care if the top 0.1% is getting taxed.

  25. Great show with Heidi, Mark & Harriet RD.

One point I’d like to make re: the over-spending in NYC etc.: could it be that he has SO much money, that he is trying to create [the impression of] a landslide, and thus give himself a “mandate?” I think that might be the reasoning behind the excess spending. He can afford it, and he wants to be King of the World. His entire campaign, run by Axelrove, is based on PR/Marketing and image control. This could just be another attempt to convince everyone that he is a loved by everyone and can justify any agenda given this “mandate,” like the Invesco Field theater. That’s my take on it.

  26. If Obama is battling McCain on the tax cut issue he’s going to lose. You can’t beat a Republican on the Republican’s turf.

BTW, Biden said the poll numbers are going to start dropping for Obama and it’s unlikely that he’ll carry VA.

  27. Girlfriend’s hubby laced into me, saying that McCain had more terrorist connections than Bambi (

God, they’re so desperate and rabid. They refuse to even consider any new information and reflexively defend Obama and attack any and all outside threats. It’s pathetic. Maybe we can create an R&D (no pun re: this site!) fund to come up with an Obot rabies vaccine.

  28. Biden said the poll numbers are going to start dropping for Obama and it’s unlikely that he’ll carry VA.

LOL! When did he say that. I bet they wish they could buy a muzzle for Biden. He has such a knack for saying the wrong thing.

  29. Palin just gave SNL its highest ratings in 14 years. Obama’s 15 minutes of fame will be over soon.

I was in a cafe today, and an obnoxious woman was yelling into her cell phone across the room for about 30 minutes. Isn’t it amazing when people do that? She was completely oblivious to her quiet surroundings, and that the other two people were trying to read and enjoy a Sunday afternoon. At one point, she started to scream about Palin saying, “I was mad at Alec Baldwin for being nice to her! He should have blah blah blah.” I couldn’t hear the rest of it. It’s a good thing she changed the subject, of she would have been pounced on by a stealthy PUMA. I am just baffled by this irrational hatred, from women, for Palin. We are not an ideological match, but I can appreciate that she is strong, fiesty, and endearing.

  30. Ga6th, woohoo! That’s great news. I’ll be so happy to be a part of a McCain victory in Virginia. It will be so easy to vote Republican for the first time in my life. Go Virginia!

  31. The polls are going to tighten as the election nears. Heck, its already happening. I think Biden was only trying to prevent a “OMG, what happened” narrative from forming. Obama is relying on flaky voters so if they get discouraged they won’t show.

  32. I don’t know if any if you caught this on the bottom of the last thread, but Will Bower got his facebook account yanked for no stated or known reason. It’s possible they’re after PUMA sites and folks again, so if you have to do anything to batten down your hatches/blogs, I’d just recommend it as a precautionary thing … they may be trying to shut us up

  33. fif, on October 19th, 2008 at 9:21 pm

What you wrote about the overspending in NYC is very astute. I’m sending it to Marc. We just finished part one of our planning media buys/overhead costs and will finish tomorrow.

Thank you all for listening to the show tonight. It was pretty fun. I liked having Harriet and Marc (and of course RD) to listen to. Listen and learn…

  34. What could have been…

So, let’s say Clinton is the Democrat nominee. Who is her not-Obama VP?

  35. dakinikat, on October 19th, 2008 at 9:34 pm Said:

Here’s another weird thing: over at RCP, somebody keeps removing Marc/Tom in Paine posts, with no word of explanation.

  36. griffithinc, It’s very telling that Obama has never apologized for the sexism and misogyny his campaign has generated and exploited. It would have greatly helped him if he had spoken out against it, not to mention that it would have made him look like a REAL leader. Instead he looks like an overly hyped sham.

I can not imagine anyone voting for this man who refuses to acknowledge or learn from his mistakes or transgressions. Has Obama never heard the phrase “The buck stops here”?

  37. Battlecat:

    Wesley Clark

  38. Help! I’m ready to blow a gasket on a friend of mine. He’s running for a family court Judge position, against a woman. The woman has the worst ratings of a judge in our family court system. He has union endorsements, synagogue endorsements, all of our newspapers have endorsed him – he’s a top notch attorney YET, I just heard his commercial jingle today and I’m beside myself. The end of it says: That’s Ken Pollock, a man AND a name you can trust. My husband thinks I’m taking it way out of context, but I don’t think so. Why could he not have said: A man “with” a name you can trust; or simply a name you can trust. I honestly don’t believe he is a sexist pig, or mysoginistic at all, but WHY would he go there? I don’t get it. After listening to the jingle, please let me know what your opinion is.

    http://www.pollock4judge.com/

  39. Battlecat, I vote for Mark Warner as the Hillary VP pick. That’s my idea of a dream ticket.

  40. No buck stops for Obama, he is the Precious

  41. What does HAKA mean/stand for?

  42. Wesley Clark, would’ve been Hillary’s VP

  43. fif – forwarded your comment to marc.

Re an HRC vp – Strickland of Ohio. They would have crushed the Republicans.

  44. Ooops. I’m getting ahead of myself. I was thinking ahead to 2012 and who should be Hillary’s VP pick. 😀

  45. hillary clinton and elizabeth edwards was my dream ticket. REAL healthcare solutions for our country would have been realized.

  46. Yup, Clinton/Clark would have been a major map changer. AR, TN, KY, WV, NM, NV, OH, FL would have gone to the Dems.

  47. That was cool, first time I’ve listened to Riverdaughter, she’s great

  48. Someone tell me I’m dreaming and none of this Obama stuff is really happening?

  49. Heidi: I think they now the polls are narrowing and they’re trying to purge the dissent and push the inevitability button again

  50. He is going to lose big time, settle down

  51. Haka is a Maori war dance that women are not allowed to perform. Although Wiki claims it’s a posture dance and not just a war dance, and that there are a “few” haka which women can perform.

Haka is the name or a Maori ritual war dance intended to intimidate opponents.

The NZ soccer team does them before games

  53. gxm:

Somebody should tell the Maori that it’s more fun to dance with girls

  54. thanks for the HAKA info. me being a Hillary boy, i guess i fall into that low info voter category the Obamaho’s like to put me in.

  55. http://www.opednews.com/articles/What-Was-That-Senator-by-Liz-ODonnell-081018-747.html

    “What was that, Senator Obama?

    Oh right. Nothing.

While Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been assaulted by offensive t shirts, sexist rants and inflatable dolls, Senator Obama has stood by and said nothing. The man who is “asking us to believe” once again remains silent as women are belittled during the presidential campaign.

I can almost excuse Senator Hillary Clinton, who experienced the same hatred during her candidacy, for remaining silent. If she were to say anything that could be misconstrued as support for the GOP, she would be accused of plotting her 2012 White House bid. And unfortunately I have come to expect silence on this topic from the Republicans and from the media.

But what is Senator Obama’s excuse? During his powerful ‘More Perfect Union’ address in Philadelphia this past March, the Senator said, “… that the legacy of discrimination – and current incidents of discrimination, while less overt than in the past – are real and must be addressed. Not just with words, but with deeds…”

This election has brought misogyny out of the dark shadowy corners and into the light. And so far, Senator Obama has used neither words nor deeds to address gender discrimination. He has ignored the derogatory comments, outdated stereotypes and blatant woman-bashing that have marred the campaigns. I had hoped for more from this self-professed agent of hope who is asking Americans to believe in his ability to unite people.

I believe, Senator Obama. I believe that women deserve equal rights and equal consideration. What do you believe?”

  56. They pulled Will Bower’s Facebook down?????????

  59. I’m in Upstate NY and I just saw a television advert for Obama… NY?!?!

  60. yes SM77, they did …

one of his friends sent me an email:

“Facebook has suspended his account. They’ve given him no explanation for the suspension. “

  61. someone should post that you tube site on obama’s website, I am sure it will give the obamaboyz and girlz a thrill up their collective legs to see just how their fearless leader brings out the best in people…progressive, nope. more like regressive, like pushing us back about 50 years…

  62. Dakinkat – I got the same message about Will Bower too. Strange…

  63. jvsp…that’s a GOOD thing. I wish NY WOULD go red. To see his stooopid face when the networks call NY for McCain would be worth a month’s salary!!

  64. i figured they’re doing those things where they complain about folks as having some kind of offensive content and it takes them offline for awhile, betuscha

  65. hello ainnj!
You will be pleased to know that donations are arriving for the denver group/dems for principle before party ads. We are going to run them in Florida and Ohio – if Senator Obama loses those states, he loses.

  66. is mr. obama spreading his wealth around? Wonder how his poor supporters who are sending in their last 5s and 10s feel about mr. obama spending it in states NY. And how about those on the democratic ticket who don’t happen to be messiahs? Couldn’t some of that dough be used for their campaigns?

  67. Oh and ainnj,
Senator Obama’s utter silence on the rampant sexism is the sort of silence that speaks volumes.

  71. Some dipsh!t at that link ainnj posted is saying that Sarah invites harassment because she winked during her debate which is, apparently, acting flirtatious. Well, I would have loved to have posted a comment over there but I didn’t want to sign up so I’ll vent here. Wasn’t the bare chested, “sexy” Obama all the rage during the primary? Didn’t the View ladies salivate over him? Why is it “okay” for a male candidate to be perceived as sexy (even when he’s a thick-waisted, big-eared dork) but it’s a disadvantage for an honestly attractive female candidate? And newsflash: Palin doesn’t need to “wink” for anyone to notice how pretty she is. Geez. The female obots are just a stupid as the male ones.

  72. Wow! ..can’t get over it… how about spending some of that money on, say, down ticket candidates? NY should be locked up. A red NY would be unreal…

    “..a months salary..”

    ditto!

  73. Ainnj:

That’s why Obama hijacked the entire DNC for himself – so he can take MORE FUNDS from the DSCC and the DCCC for himself. Everything now runs from Chicago.

Down ticket Dems have been working miracles to stay afloat.

  74. jvsp – I’m in TN and have seen several Obam commercials. I think he made some national ad buys so that’s why everyone is seeing them. I think it will backfire. Obama does not wear well. The more he’s seen, the more ppl grow tired of seeing him.

I was in a book store today and so many magazines had him on the cover. It was overkill and really made me not want to vote for him.

  75. Here are some of the words of one of the Maori Hakas.

Ka tū te ihiihi Stand up to the fear
Ka tū te wanawana Stand up to the terror
Ki runga ki te rangi, To the sky above,!
E tū iho nei, tū iho nei, hī! Fight up there, high up there. Yeah!

I am very pleased to hear that Heidi!! 🙂 Music to my ears! My money is on you and Marc!

You know, I think McCain may have a good shot at taking Florida and Ohio, and maybe even PA. I think obama played his last “big” endorsement card a bit too early. He may be seeing in his internal polling what we are suspecting.
As anyone who has ever had their pipes freeze up, sinks clog up or toilets back up…you should NEVER underestimate the power of a plumber.

I’ve never seen censorship on this level. What has happened to our country?

Do you have a link on that tax comparison post. I am trying to sway some bots in the family 🙂 Thanks.

  80. Elderj: Exactly – the overexposure is nauseating!

On the radio, in the street, on TV, on the internet in ads, phone calls and in your FRIGGIN EMAIL from crazed Obama-loons that just. don’t. get. whyyyyy aren’t you voting for the fake-Messiah.

    Acccckkkkk!!!!!!!!!!

  81. I am SOOO OCD! I have watched the SNL Palin rap by Amy whatsherface and it is SOOO funny! I love to see Palin lip “Obama/Ayers Obama Ayers”

Although I am voting green, I still find Palin a good sport and hope that the SNL skit backfires on what the MSM wanted to try and do and it wins her new supporters.

I don’t express myself half as well as she does or you do. That’s why I depend on you to speak for me!

If it’s another of my posts you are referring to, of course you can use it if you like!

  83. Heidi, I am trying to send you money regularly. (You’ve usurped Cynthia McKinney for my campaign donations.) Is there a permanent link on The Confluence? Or can I sign up for email alerts from you? It always helps to have an email to remind me to send money. I need to be nudged. 🙂

  84. gxm17: there are still like 5 PUMA groups out there … it’s just Will’s personal account

  85. gxm: Heidi’s link is on the Red white and Blue button on the top left corner – easy peasy.

  86. Wonderful, dakinikat. So I just search “groups” and ask to join? Sorry to be a dolt. (I’m embarassed how long it took me to figure out how to post a photo over there.)

  87. yeah, that’s about it …

  88. doh! Thanks sm77. Just sent a few more $. Keep those reminders coming. 🙂

  89. Will Bowers account could have been hacked. Obots have hacked other accounts already.

    These people are unhinged.

  92. dakinikat I saw your comment on that awful youtube. good on you! I posted there too, I don’t post there under aiinj though, you tube people can be incredibly crazy and vile I find. I keep my comments to a minimum there usually but this time I couldn’t be quiet.
I sent it to fox news but who knows if they even read their emails…

  93. powells endorsement of “the one” means nothing to me. He sold his credibility on the WMD’s and now it just looks like he’s endorsing him because he’s black which non one wants to say or ask because it’s considered impolite by the MSM, but really I can’ t think of what other real reason he would even need to endorse anyone at all.

  94. Flirting by winking…hmmm…. let’s roll the airplane clip shall we of mr. obama giving the giggling female obama press corps (aka cnn, msnbc, etc.) a glimpse of that special package they all want to write home about.

  95. ainnj – I just added the article to my worthwhile reads page – thanks for the tip.

  96. If BO is spreading the wealth around, does that mean I get a lobster?

  98. Alice:

I got crabs, but not from Obama

  99. I just joined Will Bowers’ PUMA group. Hopefully his page will be reinstated.

Man, there’s a lot of Puma groups on Facebook that have nothing to do with PUMA. There was even one group that was fronting (Please Unite My Party) and urging Hillary supporters to vote for Obama. Um, short answer: NFW.

  100. N/M. I couldn’t help myself. I sent him an email letting him know I felt his commercial was sexist at best, mysogynistic at worst.

  101. Thank you all for listening to the show tonight. It was pretty fun.

The polls in VA haven’t been looking too good for McCain lately and he really needs to win there. I checked out his event schedule on his campaign’s website and he didn’t have anything scheduled in VA and was wondering why. I hope his internal polls on VA are good.

gxm: that’s like saying women who dress “sexy” were asking to be raped.

  106. Checked facebook (I am not very handy with that site) I don’t see Will’s name listed in my friends page, my groups, anywhere. What happened?

  107. oops! I just saw that dakinikat made the exact same statement re: provocative dress above. Pumas really do think alike 🙂

I suppose women who wear short skirts are asking to be raped too.

  109. Dakinikat

Do you think you could do a post on the campaign’s tax proposals?

After all the discussion about Joe the Plummer, I am still confused as to the impact of the different candidates’ tax plans on small businesses. BO and McCaiin both have tax info pages on their respective websites. BO’s said something about no capital gains taxes if small businesses spent on investments and start up costs??? I also heard a discussion of that issue on Fox news yesterday between a BO surrogate and the announcer and it seemed the BO surrogate was getting the best of the argument.

  110. Today I talked to 2 women COMPLETELY different; but BOTH NOT SURE if Sarah Palin is as they said, “READY TO BE PRESIDENT”!
I had to say…………. John McCain is not going to drop d*** the 1st day in office.
Plus added Michelle’s little speech about HUBBY………”AA”………
Gas Station………………pumping gas…….those were HER words NOT mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  111. angie! Did you see my post above? Dakinikat said the same thing, and I didn’t see hers, and then said it again, and now you’ve had the same thought.

You know the saying…great minds think alike 🙂

  112. Firelight:

Why waste time evalating Obama’s meaningless promises? He has no intention of keeping them.

You might as well parse the pick-up lines from some drunk at closing time.

  113. Sarah Palin is just as ready to be President as Barack Obama. The only difference is that she’s not running for President.

People are so easily misled by distraction techniques like focusing on Palin’s supposed lack of experience in order to take the attention off of Obama’s slim resume.

It never ceases to amaze me.

  114. firelight: sure, there’s a few nonpartisan tax groups out there I can check … I think ABC is doing a special tomorrow morning, some one said

  115. fif — I just saw yours & dakinkat! d’oh — that’s what I get for not refreshing! But sadly, it isn’t just great minds thinking alike it is also, sadly, that women have had to hear this kind of b.s. for far too long. How dare this little snot nose punks give this kind of atrocious thinking any validity.

  116. Angie:

They have to justify the things they say about Sarah because they know it’s wrong.

They rationalize that she deserves it or is “asking for it”

Obamanation does that to all Republicans, PUMAs and anyone who doesn’t slurp the Kool-aid.

Imagine if they tried debating the issues and evaluating the candidates on the merits!

  117. myiq2xu, on October 19th, 2008 at 10:47 pm Said:

I know what you mean…actually, I don’t believe anything BO says, however, some people actaully do. If we have the facts about what he says (i.e., lies ;)) he will do then we can use them to hopefully convince other folks that he will be bad for business (i.e., job creation).

  118. also, firelight: afrocity had a good comparison from the abc on a previous thread … is she still here? she could repost it if she is …

  119. I’ll never forget the case, I think it was back in the late 70s when a teenage girl was raped by several teenage boys and the judge let them off because the girl had been wearing a bikini… at the beach. It’s painful to realize how prevalent the “she deserved it” attitude is all these years later.

  120. Ugh! I apologize for the typos in my comments above and in all future comments! 🙂

  121. Demonization of Obama’s opponents by calling them r@cists is a feature, not a bug.

  122. angienc: this is the same stuff I heard at university as a kid, what 30 years ago? how little things have changed!

Well, I’ll go and google and see what I can find.

  124. dakinikat — exactly — I recall a Take Back the Night Rally in college — 15 years ago — with the speaker saying “Women do not ask to be raped!” Guess those Obots missed that one.

  125. not sure which thread actually, maybe two ago …

  126. jvsp…..Thanks for the blog backup link.

  127. need to head out and get my briefcase stuffed properly …

    g’nite!

  128. I went to my old college dorm (from 1980) and was appalled to see that the communal women’s bathrooms are now locked. On the men’s floor, the bathroom door was propped open. I think those guys should have the inconvenience of having to use a key too since men are who made it bad for women.

  129. Politico has a story up about a “mystery man” with whom BZero spends time, lots of time, and no one knows who he is, what he looks like, whether or not he really works for the campaign, who owns a home in suburban Chicago, but rents an apartment in BZero’s neighborhood, etc. The campaign didn’t want him interviewed and when called, the guy wanted to know how Politico got the number, wanted Politico to lose the number and not to call again because he couldn’t talk about his relationship or job.

Here’s the link to the story Mystery Man

Albeit speculative, headlined on Politico is a reliable source or am I howling at the moon? At least we know BZero has one friend.

  130. If you asked an Obot they would most likely agree that women do not asked to be raped.

But their need to demonize Sarah Palin causes them to rationalize that what they are doing to her is “different”

Nothing they do is wrong if it’s in support of “The One”

  131. Sorry, I formatted the link incorrectly. Here’s the whole link:

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14713.html

In any event, it’s the headline story.

  132. myiq — yep, the don’t have anything against women, just that woman. Of course, they said the exact same thing in the primary about Hillary. Call me old fashioned, but I think actions speak louder than words.

  133. I didn’t think I could get more heavy hearted. I just came up to this thread to recover from the anxiety flood i felt after watching Palin brutalized.

Angie, I saw that you said earlier that you escaped an abusive husband as did I. I wish I had known you when I was living in North Carolina (Greensboro) for eight long years with the guy.

I recognized some very uncomfortable parallels in Obama right away. Did you?

I didn’t need another reason to support Mccain/Palin, but that video just pushed me toward another level of support.

  134. “Just not THAT woman” while refering to Hillary became, “just not THAT woman” when referring to someone who doesn’t really have a whole lot in common with Hillary….well, that just shows they fear what the two HAVE in common = being female.

  135. Someone pointed out in an earlier thread that the brutal video is not alone, there’re at least two.

  136. Confidential – do not release until Jan 21, 2009
    Obama tax cut plan.
    Please note two attached lists.

List A) list of all residents of U.S. age 14 and older.
List B) list of tax cut recipients

    Obama Tax Cuts:
Go to List B. Beside each name is an amount. Quadruple each amount; this is that individual’s Obama Tax Cut. (note that some names are concealed, generally when the amount is $200 or less. To get the names to show, simply type in the password “Shhh!!!” and the names will appear. In the case of duplicate entries, tax cuts should be given to each duplicate, just to prevent anyone from being missed. If a foreign address is listed, it is obviously an American citizen currently living abroad, so the tax cuts should also be given to them.

    Obama Tax Adjustments:
Go to List A. Purge all names that appear on List B.
Total the amount of Obama Tax Cuts granted to List B.
Double that amount and divide it equally (to be fair to all taxPayers) among all the remaining names on List A.

    Confidential…Confidential…Confidential…Confidential…

  137. joanie –I’m so sorry you had to go through something like that too. I was living in NOLA at the time though — but it would have been nice to know someone who was going through the same thing as nothing makes you feel more alone. It was a long time ago & I actually don’t talk about it much (2 years of therapy helped) but you are right, there is so many parallels with Obama that I just couldn’t keep it in any more. I first noticed it when he said he could get all of her voters but she couldn’t get his & it only got louder as the primary went on. I knew then that s.o.b. hates women & was never getting my vote. That video today is the inevitable conclusion to what he started in Iowa when his victory song was Jay-Z’s “I’ve got 99 problems but a b!tch ain’t one.”

That was before most of them were even born. And Obama??? Well, he was “only eight years old” when that took place.

    a$$hat = obama

  139. yes Angie. He’s a hater. I saw it right away, and the behavior of his supporters is no accident. Congrats to all that have gotten away from the bad guys. (sorry to bring it up..)

It won’t be long now before we are celebrating getting away from Obama. I believe that.

    The man will-not-win.

repeat after me: He will not win. No he won’t.

  140. Joanie — my ex always used to tell me I had nowhere else to go — he was right until one day I did. And that is the day I realized that I always had someplace else to go. BO thinks we don’t have anywhere else to go either, so it is up to us to show him that we do.

  141. He will not win. No he won’t!
don’t worry about brining it up — I didn’t mean I don’t talk about it because it is painful — I don’t talk about it because I am so over it — whenever I think of it it is like I’m looking at someone else (I did “become” someone else when I was with him — after I left I became “myself” again). BO just reminds me so much of him that he has brought up those memories for me (and you — and probably a lot of women who have gone through similar experiences).

  142. {{{angie}}}

My ex told me I had no where else to go too. Well, he said no one else would want me–same thing.

Funny, we both came to the same place. What a great place to go!

  143. {{{joanie}}} Yep, I heard the “no one else would want me” line too — gah! It’s like they all have the same manual. Dickheads.
And yes, it was the best place I ever went.

  144. ooh! New thread!

  145. Well, your exes were both wrong

  146. A goodnight kiss to you, Angie, and big love and goodnight to my PUMA family. I love you all.

  147. myiq, I like talking about giving angie kisses while you’re around, I figured you like it 😉

  148. Talk talk talk, I want the video feed

  149. Dakinikat – if I remember correctly current tax cuts which affect the lower 5 figure incomes expire this year and reduce Obama’s tax savings?

Angienc – It seems that in spite of all the work done over the decades to improve women lives progress has been slow.

I worked with a hot line for women rape victims here in Illinois 30 years ago before we had cell phones etc. We rotated a watch and were notified over a sort of radio/pager when someone had been attacked. We were the first line, talking with the victims before the police as many did not want to talk to male police officers. I could understand that at the time because it seemed that most male officers weren’t understanding or sympathetic. For some it was a joke, especially if the women had been abused by their husbands or boyfriends.

There has to be a way to change that perception that women are second class humans.

  150. Misunderstanding of Haka? From Wikipedia:

“Although the use of a haka by the All Blacks has made one type of haka familiar, it has led to misconceptions. Haka[ are not exclusively war dances, nor are they only performed by men. Some are performed by women, others by mixed groups, and some simple haka are performed by children. Haka are performed for various reasons: for amusement, as a hearty welcome to distinguished guests, or to acknowledge great achievements or occasions. War haka, which had their own term, ‘peruperu’, were originally performed by warriors before a battle, proclaiming their strength and prowess in order to intimidate the opposition. Today, haka constitute an integral part of formal or official welcome ceremonies for distinguished visitors or foreign dignitaries, serving to impart a sense of the importance of the occasion.”
