So how are things with you?

  1. I’m fine. Jaw-dropper of the evening: Super Obot Hillary-hating spouse says we need a Democratic supermajority in Congress so “we can finally pass health care.” God damn, the kool-aid ate holes in his brain.

  2. HA HA love these graphics. um…would you like to supersize that?

  3. There is no UHC and there will not be because we have no money.

  4. Please let him know in excruciating detail that the only one who cared about that isn’t running anymore.

  5. Reposting downstairs because this article by Lanny Davis really steams me. And I’m wondering, am I the only one who finds his piece insulting and actually nutty?

    Here’s the article. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122420333668243091.html
    Here’s my commentary: http://tdg.typepad.com/heidi_lis_potpourri/2008/10/lanny-davis-you-seem-a-bit-confused—to-say-the-least.html

Yes, I understand that Senator Obama might have learned a thing or two from actually having an opponent in a race but that is not really at the heart of the Davis piece.

Correct: Senator Obama was not for UHC and has never said he is.

  7. was at another blog and they were trashing y’all for wanting to hang some guy named Chad…

    …kidding… 🙂

Barack Obama is in favor of one thing and one thing only: Barack Obama

“Powell, 71, who is to appear on NBC’s Meet the Press, told a conference in Washington last month that he was undecided. “I’ve said to my beloved friend and colleague, John McCain, a friend of 25 years – John, I love you – but I’m not just going to vote for you on the basis of our affection and friendship,” Powell said.”

“I’ve said to Barack Obama, I admire you, I’ll give you all the advice I can, but I won’t vote for you just because you’re black. We have to move beyond this.”

  11. Oops!

Blogging drunk and combative, I should read more carefully

  12. A year ago Colin Powell was persona non grata among Democrats.

Of course back then Democrats were very different.

    just kidding.

was looking around tonight and found out something interesting about our beloved sec of state brunner… she is tied (via campaign contributions) to Rezko friend Myron Cherry out of Chicago.

  14. Does Myron have a brother named Buster?

  15. He’s an effete liberal who thinks he is teh smrt because he went to expensive schools back in the East. He needs to tread lightly on Palin’s education, as I began my flake’s progress through college at a Midwestern land grant college and finished at an urban Catholic university.

He is a great and responsible dad and we manage to be friends when we stay the hell off politics or what used to be our sex life.

  16. Okay, any bets on when/if/where Powell endorses The One, and how much this will help/hurt Its chances? Bonus points for correctly guessing the number of weasel qualifiers Powell might attach.

  17. don’t know, but stripper Busty Malone does have a sister named Leva…

  18. Will Powell display the tiny aluminum tube which contains Obama’s qualifications?

  19. Heidi,

The link to your comment isn’t working on my machine.

  20. Depends on how much magnification is required, ug.

BO ran TV ads here in WA state before the caucus primary saying that he was in favor of UHC. This was at the same time that, I believe, the only HRC TV ad running was touting her UHC. In other words, BO claimed to be in favor of UHC to take away the impact of the HRC ads on UHC. Of course, the media did not hold him accountable for his lies.

  23. Sarah on SNL – anybody excited about that?

  24. He’s always said he was for Universal Healthcare, he just didn’t think the 15 million person gap that separated “universal” and “almost universal” was all that important. He used the words Universal Healthcare, even though his plan was and is anything but.

  25. i have never in my life (almost 60) ever seen a political race and candidate that was most self centered, misogynistic and arrogant than the one i am witnessing. i am so amazed that the democratic, oops, excuse me, the obamatic party allows the slams and smears against its base and doesn’t say a word. i really hope they lose big time. i am still registered as a dem but if nobama wins, i will change my party registration. i am very close to voting for mccain, and choosing him as the candidate i want to win, and not voting against some one.

this has been a very sad election for this country with all of the shennanigans and stealing of the nomination. i really do fear for women and their rights in this country. lucky enough i am almost out of my productive work years and hopefully won’t need to deal with this stuff as an economic reality. but, i do pledge myself to continuing on with my own personal fight in the stealing of elections and holding the dems accountable. i will not vote for any incumbents this year. it’s a sad day for me to say this.

  26. Heidi,

Davis’ column was insulting and your response was inspired. I’ve sometimes wondered why Hillary doesn’t just tell him to shut up. I can’t think of a time when he was “defending” her that he didn’t step in it.

  27. I do not care who Colin Powell endorses .. I think the only thing his endosement will change is his own standing in what ever community he does not choose .
Sorry if I sound a bit discouraged, I have to stop listening to idiots on tv .

  28. his “plan” now consists of “take two asprin and don’t bother calling in the morning” . I swear I hear his radio ads every moring with some woman talking about not having any insurance and then he comes on and says “if you are already covered, you get to keep your plan”….well no sh@# sherlock, but what does that do for that uninsured woman? those commercials don’t even make any sense.

What I mean is BO said he was for UHC only to steal HRC’s thunder. HRC’s plan was UHC, BO’s plan never was. The media did not call him out on this lie, among many others.

  30. I live in one of the state’s where BO attacked Hillary on her heathcare plan. I just watched a BO ad where that lied about McCain’s stance on abortion and another that blames McCain for plant closings. Oh, yeah, BO lied to us rust-belters about Hillary’s NAFTA history, too.
How on earth does he roll around in fertilizer and keep coming up smelling like a rose?

  31. Rep. MIchele Bachmann rocks!

  32. Whaa?

  33. do you think it is possible to ask RD to put the J Mc video from the Al Smith dinner up as a semi permanent link – when any of us needs a little smile when the crap starts flyin our way?

  34. I want Hillary back, I want my democratic party back , but I dont see that happening ; is this the point where I get to acceptance and vote for my partys candidate HAHAHAHAHA SOOOO NOT

  35. Colin Powell knew exaactly what he was getting into when he decided to join up with Bush. I’m so tired of him portraying himself as the hero to save his own a$$. He’s been going along to get along his entire career.

  36. Colin Powell helped in the coverup of My Lai and he was insubordinate to President Bill Clinton over “don’t ask don’t tell.”

  37. Heidi,

Got the link from the last thread. Excellent rebuttal. Lanny’s whole premise seemed to be apologizing for Hillary’s run. It was insulting and you nailed your response. Well done.

  38. Powell’s endorsement will mean nothing to BO because Powell is black,so it will be expected. Were he to endorse McCain, it would mean a little bit more, but he would have to defend it mightily. His ties to Bush will offset any gain for Mac.

One item that may affect BO and isn’t being discussed is Jesse Jackson. When Jesse Sr. made the unfortunate open mike comments, BO or his flunkies should have told Jesse Jr. to stay out of it, that they would take care of the matter. Instead, they let Jesse Jr. diss his father in public, and that is something you don’t do in polite Black America. For a son to public rail at his father , who has, as far as AA’s are concerned, given his adult life to the AA community, was very bad, and will not sit well in a lot of households. Will it do enough damage to change any votes? Maybe not by itself, but it may open a few cracks for middle aged black americans to look at the real package they are being offered. Remember, also, that there is no other segment of the populace that is as likely to lie to pollsters about their intentions as AA’s. I don’t mean to say that 90% won’t vote for BO, but I do mean to say that no one knows how many won’t vote McCain in privacy. Think of the pressure we are getting from our white peers over this election, then multiply it by ten.

I have been saying this for years. He is a panderer and always will be. I have never understood the idea that he is SO special.

  40. You know, for the very first time I’m thinking maybe it’s a good thing we moved to Texas. I mean, if The One ends up slithering into the Oval Office, Texas could always secede. Think about it – a border state, plenty of oil, well stocked with 2nd Amendment goods, enough Tex-Mex to last through at least 2075, great beaches (access to the Gulf!), a built-in Music Capital of The World (per Austin), plenty of wind (and hot air) to keep those turbines turning, Willy Nelson for interim First Dude . OK (more oil!), LA (decent food!), and AR (razorbacks?) could always join us, not that we’d need the extra acreage.

Huh, wow, you know, there’s always a bright side, isn’t there?

  41. Colin Powell’s son Michael is bad too.

  42. Scruz, on October 18th, 2008 at 12:38 am

The only slightly positive thing about all the misogyny spilling out into the open is that it really has galvanized people to demand a better politics going forward. I hope that people stay in the fight for the long haul. I I know I am.

  43. Michael Powell served on the FCC and sold out small telecomms to favor the big ones. Big surprise, eh?

  44. Kat5, Texas tried that once and it didn’t work out very well. But the agreement was that Texas could divide itself into 5 states in the future when it joined the union. Just think, we could have 5 creepy John Cornyns and 5 idiot grinning Kay Hutchinsons. But the US could expel us without a war I think.

  45. “Well, I tell you what, it helps in Ohio that we’ve got Democrats in charge of the machines.”

THAT’S IT! Texas adds 4 more states, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Venezuela… BO HAS been to 57 states!

  47. Colin Powell. The only man in the bush administration with any cred, the only man they could get to tell the lies he told so that we would all say “hey, Colin Powell wouldn’t lie to us”.
How ANY democrat, most especially a left-leaning, keith oldbomaman drooling democrat, would embrace Gen. Powell for his endorsement is absolutely mind boggling. Here is a little NYT article from 2004 on Powell’s part in getting us into the Iraq war:

THE NUCLEAR CARD: The Aluminum Tube Story — A special report.; How White House Embraced Suspect Iraq Arms Intelligence

THIS ARTICLE WAS REPORTED BY DAVID BARSTOW, WILLIAM J. BROAD AND JEFF GERTH, AND WAS WRITTEN BY MR. BARSTOW.
    Published: October 3, 2004

He made his way to the subject of Mr. Hussein’s current nuclear capabilities.

”By now,” he said, ”just about everyone has heard of these tubes, and we all know there are differences of opinion. There is controversy about what these tubes are for. Most U.S. experts think they are intended to serve as rotors in centrifuges used to enrich uranium. Other experts and the Iraqis themselves argue that they are really to produce the rocket bodies for a conventional weapon, a multiple rocket launcher.”

But Mr. Powell did not acknowledge that those ”other experts” included many of the nation’s most authoritative nuclear experts, some of whom said in interviews that they were offended to find themselves now lumped in with a reviled government.

In making the case that the tubes were for centrifuges, Mr. Powell made claims that his own intelligence experts had told him were not accurate. Mr. Powell, for example, asserted to the Security Council that the tubes were manufactured to a tolerance ”that far exceeds U.S. requirements for comparable rockets.”

Yet in a memo written two days earlier, Mr. Powell’s intelligence experts had specifically cautioned him about those very same words. ”In fact,” they explained, ”the most comparable U.S. system is a tactical rocket — the U.S. Mark 66 air-launched 70-millimeter rocket — that uses the same, high-grade (7075-T6) aluminum, and that has specifications with similar tolerances.”

In the end, Mr. Powell put his personal prestige and reputation behind the C.I.A.’s tube theory.

”When we came to the aluminum tubes,” Richard A. Boucher, the State Department spokesman, said in an interview, ”the secretary listened to the discussion of the various views among intelligence agencies, and reflected those issues in his presentation. Since his task at the U.N. was to present the views of the United States, he went with the overall judgment of the intelligence community as reflected by the director of central intelligence.”

As Mr. Powell summed it up for the United Nations, ”People will continue to debate this issue, but there is no doubt in my mind these illicit procurement efforts show that Saddam Hussein is very much focused on putting in place the key missing piece from his nuclear weapons program: the ability to produce fissile material.”

Six weeks later, the war began.

  48. kitchen, I knew someone would finally figure out what O was talking about. Seven new states would be grand. Just think of 114 senators pontificating endlessly. Joe Biden cloned maybe.

  49. Unless my memory of TX history is faulty, when TX joined the union it reserved the right to divide itself into 5 states or to secede and become an independent republic again.

There’s always a tiny secessionist movement somewhere in TX.

  50. Um, how tiny is it, Ralph?

I cannot imagine being anything but totally pissed off about this until the day I die so yeah, I am in this fight for the long haul, I don’t see any other choice!

Um, how tiny is it, Ralph?

it’ll get bigger if BO wins… and a lot of U.S. tax base will disappear. Texas – world superpower… go figure!

  53. Texas – politicians welcome by invitation only…

  54. And if I remember correctly. didn’t Powell publicly agree to be SoS before the FL mess was even resolved? Bush wasn’t even President yet but was running around picking Cabinet members to undercut the process and Powell’s more than happy to go along.

  55. If Texas wants to secede, we should let them.

  56. Well, I’m certainly not inviting Powell.

How about Feingold. Can we let him in?

  57. I always admired Colin Powell and thought he was a patriot. He was treated badly by the Bush administration for sure, in being given the take of explaining the WMD when he wasn’t even in the loop. He was always American first. But if he now endorses OB, my opinion of him will certainly change.

Why does Powell need to endorse anyone at all? Isn’t he basically military? I though they didn’t get political until after retirement.

  58. Ah, you know, I’m okay. I’m not going to be an astronaut, but I’m still working on my film degree. I’ll be okay.

Hey, someone tell me when the Republicans are going to drop the birth certificate bomb on Obama and cast him as an illegitimate candidate. Is it before or after election night? How’s that court case coming in Pennsylvania?

  59. This whole powell endorsement silliness reminds me of the big lead up to the John Edwards endorsement…remember him? The guy who wasn’t going to endorse, but then he did? Has anyone spotted Colin zipping down the back stairway of the local holiday inn lately? Hmmmmm.

  60. the “task” of explaining the WMD…

  62. Nijma,
    is your avatar yawning??

  63. If BO wins, I imagine it will grow a lot 🙂 Ever since I can remember, there’s the occasional newspaper piece about the people in some small town or whatever plotting secession.

A funny thing is happening now. It appears that the DC/Georgetown social circuit, both left and right, will be more comfortable with an Obama/Biden win. What’s interesting is that the rank and file seem to be much more amenable to McCain/Palin. That’s certainly true for the GOP and a large number of Democrats it seems.

Has the DC intelligentsia of both parties left their members behind? If so, it would be a kick to see if the economic conservatives/social moderates of the GOP have enough in common with the centrist Democrats to form some sort of coalition.

  64. Heidi Li,

Lanny is trying to make us believe that Obama is Hillary and I am not buying it. I know what they did and any other person would have given up…but Hillary wanted to let us all know that she was going all the way.

    Yea:
    http://tdg.typepad.com/heidi_lis_potpourri/2008/10/lanny-davis-you-seem-a-bit-confused—to-say-the-least.html
Regardless of whether Senator Obama wins or loses, the people we hold responsible for hijacking democracy from the Democratic Party are the people who corrupted the process that was supposed to be used to determine the Democratic nominee: chiefly, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, and Senator Obama himself.

…Don’t forget my Donna Brazile…she was the leader on May 31st in rigging the nomination by not counting Hillary’s votes.

Now this is interesting…Democrats for McCain are up against Obots in New York:

  67. RalphB – definitely I think both parties have messed up royally. When you can get liberal lesbians and gun toting evangelicals both posting on the same blog in defense of democracy and without rancor towards each other, you’ve really accomplished something. David Brooks (my latest favorite person to dislike) is the epitome of a conservative elite who practically radiates disdain for regular folk, as typified by Sarah Palin. And we all know the disdain of the liberal elite for the “bitter clingy folks” who need them to exercise a benevolent paternalism over them. The whole thing is sick.

  68. You’re on, Ralph. Okay, we’ll keep secession on the back burner until we find out if the Moderacrat party is a winner.

And in answer to your question, “Has the DC intelligentsia of both parties left their members behind?”: I vote a resounding yes.

  69. Kitchen,

  72. you know what I can’t wrap my head around is that we’re in the USA, supposed bastion of freedom and democracy and here we are having to contend with politicians bullying their opponents supporters, ballot box stuffing, media that is far from independent, threats of violence if a favored candidate isn’t put in office, self censorship of any critique of candidates, outright lies and fabrications repeated as fact…. what the h3ll country did I wake up in? This election is playing out just like every B-grade eighties movies about the soviet union or nazi germany.

I’ve honestly never taken seriously all the conspiracy theorist, the sky is falling, area 51, second shooter, build a bunker in your backyard type of people, but you know, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.

  76. Kat5: Don’t put secession on the back burner on my account.

One reason I think that people are so certain Obama is going to win is the DC/NY corridor is so out of touch with the rest of the country. I have no clue who will be President, but I do know it won’t be over til Nov 4th at the earliest.

  85. LOL I find it touching. Who says Obama has no core beliefs? They believe deep in their hearts that everyone in America is unbelievably stupid.

  86. “They believe deep in their hearts that everyone in America is unbelievably stupid.”

Shouldn’t we add “was stupid?” Right down to the framers of the Constitution. America is fundamentally flawed and needs fixin…

  87. I don’t know…I don’t really see them as wanting to fix anything. They just want power and perks as far as I can see.

  88. Obama really believes there are problems and that He can “fix” them. It’s consistent with his narcissism. The lust for power goes without saying.

  89. You could be very well be right, I just honestly don’t think he cares, personally. If he thought there were problems and he could fix them, then he’d have some kind of core beliefs, some kind of plan. He’d care enough to bone up on policy and not be talking out of both sides of his mouth. I know he’s a narcissist and I’m sure it’s very likely that he believes his own press, I just don’t think his mind filters down to the details in that way. And from what i know of his tenure in Chicago, he was just content to be a grade a sleazy corrupt pol helping Rezko get his judges in place, not a whole lot of idealism there. I think his narcissism runs like, if it’s good for me, it must be good for America, America is fixed just because I exist, or something.

It’s one of the things I most dislike about him, because many of his followers are good people, idealists, who are in a tough way and do need hope and change. And the fact that he cynically explouts them and doesn’t think twice about it—ugh.

  90. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he couldn’t care less about America, just himself. Though, given his ideological mentors and “friends”, I do believe he has an agenda, and “it” has no concern for pragmatically solving anything other than its being instantiated, after which everything will fall in place with the ubermensch watching over his kingdom. The Chicago “machine” was just the apparatus by which to gain power.

I don’t think there is some back room conspiracy in the grand sense. More than likely it is a convergence of ideas, a lot of fellow travelers, and the only question is who is using whom.

And yeah, it is heart breaking to see so many people being swindled and relationships severed. The only friends I have that I can bear are the complacent ones. LOL! (sort of)

  92. How are things with me?

    I’m beginning to feel BITTER.

B4 I was only playing. I knit one trite sweater each winter, and felt the expression “bitter knitter” to be both funny and apt.

Now I am very bitter over the Democratic Party. What a con job they did on women. All these years and no UHC.
But there was always money for war.
Poor Public Housing, poor public schools, trucksfull of money for pork.
And now they’re condoning/promoting voter fraud-how base can they get.

  93. This is a must read. It explains the cult like behavior by the Obama people. It is actually very chilling.

I once considered Powell to be the ONLY member of the Bush administration that had any honor; any cred as your article says. I never supported going to war in Iraq. But then I saw Colin Powell talking to the UN General Assembly about WMDs, complete with satellite photos, and I had to wonder if maybe these guys could be right. So I stopped speaking out. Well, we all know how the rest of the story went.

Because of this for me, Colin Powell went from being an honorable man to just another lying sack of shit in the Bush Administration. McCain doesn’t need his endorsement and probably doesn’t want it. So what if Powell endorses Obama? It’s just one LIAR vouching for another. Exactly like the Edwards endorsement. The Obots will deny it but IMHO it’s the Bush Administration endorsing Obama. That says everything right there.

  95. Heidi Li ‘s rebuttal of Davies inspired me to do a study of this portrait of opportunism

I love the comment there: “pressing print is such a hard thing” – from the people who made fun of McCain’s computer skills

  97. Hey , if bo and axe snake oil show cannot manage 2.5 million in donors how can they possibly manage the USA ??? I think the USA is somewhat larger.

  98. The only thing that would make releasing the 2.5M donors a “logistical nightmare” is their need to purge the lists of any potential embarrassments.

  99. WHY doesnt McCain just nickname bo the TAX MAN and get it over with 🙂 I would laugh so hard …

  100. Oh my head! It feels swollen and squishy this morning.

And I think I might have got a new tattoo but I can’t see back there

  103. Poor Joe the Plumber. He probably thinks he would have been better off plunging a toilet the day he deigned to pose a question to Obama whose answer more or less unveiled his true intentions. Mao, Dear Leader, and Castro must be proud!

We decry the lack of freedom in other countries but villify anyone who dares to speak out. What a country!

  104. John Smith: If that’s true, it would explain why I always fall asleep when Obama speaks. Sure he’s boring, but so is W, and I don’t fall asleep during W’s speeches. I guess I have my cynicism to thank for not falling into the cult-like trance!

  105. “We decry the lack of freedom in other countries but villify anyone who dares to speak out. What a country!”-

    Pat-simply profound! And, scary.

  106. Someone here referred me to a site that was collecting money for Joe the Plumber to pay his Ohio back taxes and to pay for a plumber’s license. Also wouldn’t he have been paid to be on the morning shows?

I think Joe’s going to be OK. Nothing that has come out about him is that horrible. I think he will land on his feet.

This is not to excuse the attempts of some to discredit a man who asked a legitimate question of a “highly protected” candidate. The down side of the 15 minutes of fame theory.

you know what I can’t wrap my head around is that we’re in the USA, supposed bastion of freedom and democracy and here we are having to contend with politicians bullying their opponents supporters, ballot box stuffing, media that is far from independent, threats of violence if a favored candidate isn’t put in office, self censorship of any critique of candidates, outright lies and fabrications repeated as fact…. what the h3ll country did I wake up in? This election is playing out just like every B-grade eighties movies about the soviet union or nazi germany.

I’ve honestly never taken seriously all the conspiracy theorist, the sky is falling, area 51, second shooter, build a bunker in your backyard type of people, but you know, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.

Well, first off we are a cross sections of American and we come in a variety of colors and we all have principles we will not compromise.

On May 31st 2008, I became aware that we were headed towards being a Banana Republic and most recently with the ‘Truth Squads’ I became alarmed and thought we were going in the direction of a Socialist society. Freedom of Speech is too precious to me and I will not fall in line. If we are oppressed by ‘friends’ is it any less oppressive?

Welcome, you have arrived in the NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY twilight zone…AREA 5.31.08 (the origin of virus)…

“but you know, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.” elderj

No, we aren’t paranoid, we just know we don’t need a messiah, we want someone with a proven record, someone that can finish one term, someone that won’t flip flop, someone whose word we trust and someone that can lead by example. In essence show me what you have done, not what you think I you can do…hemmm…that is not paranoid at all!

  108. Did anyone read David Brooks’ editorial about how Obama’s been under pressure all these two years but he never cracks and he never lets things get to him? How he’s unaffected by his difficult childhood? Really? If he is so unaffected by hating his mommy, why is he such an effete woman-hater, so much so that he had to humiliate Hillary Clinton?

  109. Big Brother is watching. Donna B has already issued that warning. Imagine how they will intimidate the press going forward. Anyone wishing to question a policy or appointment will be put on notice: access is it’s own reward. Newsflow will be dried up much as it was for the first three years of President Dismal.

I didn’t read it, but heard Brooks post debate saying that Obama’s calm demeanor made him look “presidential.” I don’t think so.

Yes, Pat. And your earlier point about “freedom of speech” in regard to Joe rings a familiar note about what happened to ordinary citizens who criticized Bush. The result was that they backed off big time. Intimidation is the order of the era.

I’m hopeful that this new coalition of democracy lovers will win the day at some point. As expressed here:

  113. John Smith ,
I do believe you are correct . but you might want to simplify your message.
My cousin , Ronnie was one of the pioneers and earliest instructors of hypnosis therapy , and he taught Eriksonian Hypnosis in the DC area for years . He was one of the people who insisted on the absolutel highest code of ethics for practitioners , and made certain those ethics of practice were included in the forming of the
National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists
    http://www.natboard.com/
to ensure that practitioners had standards..
I attended one of his seminars in the nineties when i was working toward my certification in Psychiatric Nursing . There were people from a wide range of professions , therapists, social workers , nurses doctors and ……… several LAWYERS who wanted to use their skills on juries and judges . Ronnie always insisted on a consious agreement between the parties for hypnosis but he demonstrated how easily it could be done without consent .

At the bottom left of that page is a pic of my cousin teaching 🙂
I dont think that the techniques work on everyone obviously ; but I am certain they work on larger numbers of people than would be expected.
Subliminal messaegs are far from dead , they are alive and well in the bo campaign , which explains the incredible hostility toward any “identifier ” of the truth . Loaded with the subliminal meesage is the very real subconcsious feel good hope changey thing and an identifier is removing that .
Thank you for your message , it would be worth mentioning it to the media if they would do anything but dismiss it .

Diverse we are but what we share in common is our love of democracy, the constitution, a heightened sense of fairplay, and an equal measure of commonsense.

People are basically the same for the most part. This blog affords a divergence and confluence of personalities, talent, intellect, and resolve to be heard. From coast to coast and over the borders, like minded people identify bullshit and call it for what it is.

  115. Yes Pat,
one of the things I love about this blog is that we are in no danger of “group think ” 🙂

Oh, now I see one source of the anger Obama supporters experience when one dares to question his candidacy. It’s like taking away someone’s hope in change for the better.

I feel that loss of hope in that I don’t have a candidate to be for this year. It’s very painful, but important to recognize and deal with.

At first I wanted to get on the Obama bandwagon (until I heard Hillary in a debate) because it would be the easy way. His lack of substance prevents me from being in the least hypnotized. And I am one of those who can be hypnotized – years ago my dentist used hypnotism once because I didn’t like Novocaine

  117. I’ve been reading about politics in Colonial New York lately. History is a consolation to me in times like this. When you see what kind of trials and tribulations humanity has survived, it gives you hope. Truly, there is nothing new under the sun.

McCain is going to win. Let’s all do what we can to make it happen.

    Be of good heart!

I’m off to do my Saturday rounds. See you later.

Interesting purplefinn. What in the name of @!$% does a President look like? The current POTUS looks like Alfred E, Newman. BO has the ears, so maybe that’s what they mean?

Pretty clearly, it means something like: “hey, chill man! We don’t want no shouting about the economy and such. We want kool, man. Just chill! Oh, and keep the shrill bitches in their place. Us kool guys got work to do.”

I think this is dead right. It’s why Obamabots do not see their behavior as wrong. They are genuinely, if hysterically, upset that others can even begin to question Teh One. His hypnotic, serpentine, speech has lulled them to sleep and into acceptance of his kool manner, with no substance at all. It’s reassuring to many people, who are pissed at Bush and really do want change. That also explains, I think, why the Obamabots – including large sections of the MSM – found Hillary “shrill”. She was not into lulling people to sleep. To the contrary, she seems to want us all to wake up and behave like thinking, caring adults. Not soothing enough, not calming, and pacifying like the hypnotic trances induced by BO.

So, yes, I think you’ve hit it right on the head. So very sad.

  121. I happened to see the cover of the Sunday NYT magazine section this AM – if that headline asking if white men can vote for Obama isn’t a racebaiter I don’t know what is.

I have started a letter to the editor and others at the NYT about it and how they should be held responsible if there is any violence after the election.

  122. When it looked like Hillary was going to legitimately loose the primary (midway) I thought “well, then, who will I vote for?
I started to think that the only other candidate might be Obama – and was perfectly willing to vote for him if I found him to be capable – I started to dig for information but as I looked I found that there was nothing there – so, Mr. NYT – his race has NOTHING to do with my not wanting to vote for the man – the fact that he only has 142 days of service as a Senator, not experienced in actually being involved, not ethical, seems to not be capable and not a real friendly likeable guy are what all stand in my way of even thinking about voting for him.

gee i hardly know whether to laugh at the stupidity or cry at the ignorance …

    and just as an aside
Didnt someone somewhere on this blog use the phrase the DC intelligentsia?

    isnt that an oxymoron ..

  124. White men almost always support the Republican in greater numbers than white women. But this year, when they do the same thing they always do, they are labeled “racist.”

    Whatever.

    lets do a survey …cmon lets …

If any of you guys are so inclined, please do write a letter to the Board of Pardons and Paroles here. I’m not saying to let him out tomorrow but he should NOT die when his guilt is in question. 133. Morning everyone .. did you read this from Dennis Kucinich

“We are on our own. And don’t expect any help from Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who lobbied hard for the bill and voted for it. Ignore their rhetoric. Look coldly at the ballots they cast against us. We, as citizens, have only a handful of representatives left in Washington, most of whom were left sputtering in rage and frustration on the House floor. The sad irony is that some of them were Republican.

“This was the largest single act of class warfare in the modern history of this country,” Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, who led the fight in the House against the bailout, told me by phone from Cleveland. “It is a direct attack on the American people’s ability to be able to stabilize their homes and their neighborhoods. This single vote will define the careers of everyone. We are back to taxation without representation, to markets that are openly rigged.”

“We buried the New Deal,” he said of the vote. “Instead of Democrats going back to classic New Deal economics where we prime the pump of the economy and start money circulating among the population through saving homes, creating jobs and building a new infrastructure, our leaders chose to accelerate the wealth of the nation upwards. ”

    http://www.truthdig.com/report/print/20081006_dennis_kucinich_on_the_democrats_bailout_betrayal/

please go read the whole thing ..

  134. got it! thanks swannie 🙂

  135. I do cleaning on Sats. and this music is perfect to get my butt in gear. lol.

  136. definitely blushing now thank YOU SO very much … and um Gary … when you are done can you come by and clean mine ???
    Teeehheeee

  137. Good grief – where do we go from here? Thanks, Briana for the link. This is numbing

Obama arrived on the Senate floor Brutus-like to thrust a knife into the back of the working and middle class. He lobbied hard for the bill. He did so, according to some who met with him on Capitol Hill, because he feared that if he opposed the bailout and it triggered a market collapse it could cost him the election. Better to placate the thieves on Wall Street than stand up for the masses of enraged and swindled citizens.

Obama’s betrayal is the betrayal of the Democratic Party. The Democrats gave us the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999, which ripped down the firewalls that were put in place by the 1933 Glass-Steagall Act. The 1933 act, designed to prevent the kind of meltdown we are now experiencing, established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC). It set in place banking reforms to stop speculators from hijacking the financial system. With Glass-Steagall demolished, and the passage of NAFTA, the Democrats, led by Bill Clinton, tumbled gleefully into bed with corporations and Wall Street speculators. They achieved fundraising parity with the Republicans. They used institutions like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as a welfare gravy train. The Democrats, including Obama, are as compromised as the Republicans.

Obama’s voting record in the Senate is in line with the corrupt Democratic mainstream, including Biden, who works on behalf of corporations and especially the credit card industry. Obama knows where power lies in the United States. It is not with the citizens, who with ratios of 100 to 1 pleaded with their representatives in Washington not to loot the national treasury to bail out Wall Street investment firms. Power lies with the corporations. These corporations, not us, pick who runs for president.

  138. I did read that Chris Hedges piece on Kucinich and the bailout. Some of the comments stunned me. LOL. Nothing should stun me now, right? But the choruses of “don’t question our Barack now!” were pretty stunning.

  139. Wow. Kucinich nails it.

No WONDER the corporate-sponsored Washington Post endorsed Obama.

It won’t matter. Middle America is cheering for Joe the Plumber now that we understand REFUNDABLE tax credits as Obama’s way to “spread the wealth.”
