A few days ago, I heard famed nature writer and novelist Peter Mathiessen interviewed on the NPR show On Point with Tom Ashbrook . Since then, I haven’t been able to get what Matthiessen said out of my mind.
Peter Mathiessen’s first book The Snow Leopard won the 1979 National Book Award for nonfiction. He has written numerous other books, including novels and short stories. Matthiessen graduated from Yale and was a founder and editor of The Paris Review. Although he is 82, he certainly qualifies as a weathy, elitist liberal and member in good standing of the “creative class.”
I’m sure you’ve guessed by now that Matthiessen supports Barack Obama for President. But why does he support Obama? See if you can figure out why from this exerpt of his interview on NPR.
People keep saying this is the most important election of our lifetime, and I’ve had a very long lifetime now. And it certainly is the most important for me. Absolutely critical. I am a great admirer of course of Mr. Obama. I was in Africa last month, and I saw his name posted up in a tiny village….and I heard about somebody else’s daughter in Italy, who was wearing an Obama button, and she was standing in a long line at the…gallery in Florence. And the Italian people saw this button and they rushed her up to the front of the line. They were so delighted to see that Obama button….you have that sense everywhere you go abroad that the whole world is so excited. It’s a gesture that is so… Electing that guy would restore our credibility in a way no other act could do. I think it would be thrilling. And of course that is not by any means the foremost reason. I would be very sad for Mr. Obama if he were to lose but I’d be absolutely heartbroken for our country. I think it would be so disastrous to perpetuate the policies of the last eight years as Mr. McCain seems intent on doing. I think it’s very frightening. And as for his Vice President, that’s more frightening still. I mean a creationist, a fundamentalist! Is that what we really need to lead the free world? I don’t think so.
I’ll tell you what I think. I think Matthiessen and most of his fellow members of the “creative class” are voting for Obama *because* he is black. They love the fact that Obama lived in “exotic” places as a child. They want to elect Obama as a “gesture” to “restore our credibility” in the eyes of the rest of the world. And they apparently share little stories with each other about how marvelous Obama is and how the rest of the world is thrilled that Americans are going to elect him President. As a wealthy, successful man with many influential friends, Peter Matthiessen can afford to support a presidential candidate as a “gesture,” because he will be just fine no matter who is elected.
As far as I can see, the younger, more naive blogger types, the wannabe “creative class” members, who don’t have as much money or social standing as Peter Matthiessen, support Obama for the same reasons. Remember the classic Koolaid-drenched post by Chris Bowers, “Wow, We Nominated the Black Guy?”
Wow, it is really happening: Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. Only eighteen months after the Democratic Party elected Nancy Pelosi the first female Speaker of the House, we are now the first major party to nominate an African-American for President.
Just let that sink in for a moment. It is pretty amazing.
Guys like Bowers, Josh Marshall, and Markos Moulitsas, along with 90% of the media elite, have totally bought into the narrative that because Obama is black, just making him POTUS will repair our lost standing in the world. They don’t realize that Europeans have always mocked and looked down on Americans. Nothing is ever going to change that. Of course I can’t prove that wealthy liberals support Barack Obama because of his race. I’m sure they also celebrate his relative youth and his “cool.” I’m only basing my opinion on the things they say and write and the fact that they keep supporting Obama even after he has reversed his position on FISA, health care, getting out of Iraq, and God knows what else.
But we are racists because we look past the color of Obama’s skin to the content of his character, and find him wanting.

Oh, and great post. Homework now!
I think a lot of liberals support Obama because they think it’s the “liberal” thing to do.
MountainSage
During the whole “European Mystery Tour” the Greek channels (my mom gets them on satilite) they were very non-plussed about BO — they couldn’t understand what a presidential candidate was doing going around, talking to political leaders & giving speeches. I know Greece isn’t all of Europe, but I think the statement that electing this dofus would “restore our credibility in the world like nothing else could” is hyperbole at best.
Besides, the Europeans aren’t voting in this election, last I checked.
Axelrod has certainly played white liberals like a piano. You gotta hand it to the guy for mastering the political mindfuck.
MountainSage is right — the elitists are exactly those people who would jump off a bridge because their cohorts jumped off too. The ultimate lemmlings.
From last thread:
The Kid said her Obot commuter friends were listening to CNN radio discussing how Sarah’s numbers were down, but up for the white male category [don’t know if that’s true, of course]. These friends are all Obots & spent the entire time going/returning work ranting about how Sarah dresses like a slut to garner those WM vote. Of course, these women all consider themselves feminists and object to Sarah because she’s so not.
Jeez, I wish you could follow some women around with a tape recorder so they could hear what hypocrites they’ve become to install a goofy man.
Oh my Gods, I so agree with you completely. I think those polls are inflated and she is actually most likely pretty popular with white women. She is clearly a good looking woman, but even so, she dresses conservatively and she seems to be very intelligent and down to earth. While it’s true that she has little experience and is clearly not ready to be commander in chief, this is also true of pampers, and it astounds me that so-called feminist women fail to see this double standard.
Also, while we’re on the subject of both Obambi’s and Sarah’s inexperience, Sarah, while inexperienced, is number two on the ticket and McCain will obviously not die in office. Also, while she has not held major office for very long, she has actually lived up to her name, walked her talk, and actually changed things in Alaska in the short time she has been Governor. More than can be said of Obie, who does not have a single major piece of legislation to his name.
I idolize women like Gloria Steinem and Robin Morgan, but I feel like Feminism has lost it’s way. When I become a best selling Author/Novelist, I intend to become a feminist writer. I will write books on feminism and where it should go, and I fully intend to address the problems within the feminist movement. I find that I have a kinship with Doctor Violet Socks of reclusive leftist in this matter.
I don’t know what to think about what the rest of the world thinks about this election. I have not been abroad and have nothing to say on the matter.
All though, I would say that wealthy liberals (I am a liberal myself, but a bread and butter, populist Clinton Liberal, not an elitist Liberal) are not worth a hill of beans when deciding who to vote for. I can like a celebrity, like Moddonna (Hillary’s Cousin!!! And yet another reason why Hillary is my Hero), Dave Chappelle, Margaret Cho, ect. but I do not have to agree with them on who I am supposed to vote for, and if they support BO, it doesn’t affect my opinion of them, simply because they do not share the concerns of every day Americans. Whenever people touted Olbermann or Maureen Dowd as legitimate people to listen to as to who to vote for, I will always say to that person: “Really? Does Keith Olbermann have to worry about paying his rent or making sure his kids don’t go hungry? Does MoDo really give a rat’s ass as to whether gas is four dollars a gallon or not? Not really, because all she ever writes about is how she hate’s Hillary’s pantsuits or how Al Gore wears Earth tones. Pundits are shallow imbeciles that entertain people by rambling about things Americans could care less about. And they get payed for it.”
I feel the same way about celebrities and who they endorse. I just don’t care, because every day Americans do not share their concerns.
As for Obama’s “historic” candidacy, It always infuriated me. Every white male pundit salivated over his candidacy’s historic nature. The fact that Hillary’s candidacy was history making in a far more important way to more than half of the American public was thrown under the rug. I will never forgive the punidtry for that alone.
It’s so hard for me to believe that these very intelligent people are acting so stupid. I guess it shouldn’t surprise me, but it does. I’m sure Peter Matthiessen has no clue what Obama actually thinks about anything, and I know he has no idea how corrupt Obama is. He has just fallen for the fantasy, hook, line, and sinker. I’m guessing he’s probably typical of his class.
Plus he thinks Sarah Palin is a creationist and a dominionist Christian, when she is neither.
Quit giving liberals a bad name. It’s the progressives who are going gaga over Obama. The same progressives who are pushing sexism and misogyny and stealing elections. Those aren’t liberal behaviors.

Come back soon!!!
Well, here’s a spot of somewhat good news.
WASHINGTON— In the wake of numerous reports of widespread election fraud by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter today to U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey requesting that the Department of Justice immediately launch a nationwide criminal probe into ACORN’s voter registration activities and investigate ACORN as a “criminal enterprise.”
I’m voting for Noriega, the Dem challenger, but I’m glad Cornyn is doing this. It’s his job, as a Judiciary committee member. He’s my senator, and I have called his office 3 times about ACORN, and the caucus fraud here in TX.
On one of those calls a couple of weeks ago, I spoke for about 10 minutes to a VERY interested aide, filling him in on how deep this voting corruption goes, Obama training for them, the Chicago connection, etc. He asked a lot of questions, and seemed to be taking notes.

LOL My friend watched Bill offer Hill a Diet Coke once.
Bankers and Wall St. are thrilled to have Obama as president. He has been doing their bidding with the help of Bush/Cheney since he began his campaign. Obama single-handedly cornered the House voted needed for their “Bail-Out”!
Obama is their “puppet”. He is glorified in the press and media as the second coming and most likely will be called,
The First Global President.!
Why else would Obama’s bibliography and his meteoric rise to power be taught in public schools as fine literature? (I know, the thought of it is as revolting to me as I’m sure it is to you.)

Wow. I envy your friend. Regency agrees, but she will not be back to agree with me till midnight.
I am so cheerful tonight. I got three new pairs of shoes and a twilight Hoodie (Isis went to the Mall!!!) and I so look forward to McCain stomping Obie in tomorrow night’s debate. Today has been a good day.
It’s how they justify their misogyny. That’s the equation and why Obama’s race is so central to his appeal. If Obama were white, they would stand exposed as people refusing to support a candidate based on gender and choosing the less qualified candidate over the more qualified candidate. But because Obama is black, they can cloak their misogyny in his race. They’re enlightened because they’re voting FOR the black guy and that means that they’re enlightened and so misogyny wasn’t the reason they were opposing Clinton. It’ s why not acknowledging the misogyny is so damn important to them. Once they acknowledge the misogyny, their bullshit is exposed.
It’s a complete narcissistic daisy chain. I’m enlighted and so I’m supporting the black guy and the evidence of my enlightenment is the fact I support the black guy. I think that equation needs to be refined a bit, but I’m sick as a dog tonight and can’t quite get it together.
He could not have taken Clinton down with the misogyny and the cheating had not his race allowed his supporters to convince themselves that they were the noble ones for supporting the African American and therefore cannot engage in something as ignorable as vote theft or misogyny – after all, they wouldn’t be supporting the black guy if that’s what they were like. That is, btw, why his hard luck tales about growing up on food stamps are also essential. These goons have convinced themselves their voting for a guy from the slums of Chicago – it’s like they think he grew up at Cabrini Green.
“Of course I can’t prove that wealthy liberals support Barack Obama because of his race. Personally, I don’t think it has much to do with race. I think it has everything to do with being against Clinton, because she’s a woman and because of CDS. Once they declared her the worst person in the world and decided that stopping her would be like stopping Hitler, well, they had to go all the way. Obama was just the warm body who could do it. And after that, they had to accept everything that he did, FISa, health care pakistan, whatever. They had to pretend he was this amazing liberal champion with this amazing record, because if he wasn’t, then they’d have to admit this was all one big charade and they never gave a damn what he stood for as long as he could beat the b—-. They used to trash him plenty before they realized he was their best hope, and if Clinton hadn’t run and it was Obama vs the white guys, I bet he’d be treated almost as badly.
Lori,
What a perceptive analysis! Would you mind if I put your comment into the post as an update?

So many false rumors and lies about her, it makes me ill. Her parents are proud science teachers, for Jebus’s sake, and she has stated that she supports the use of birth control over and over again. So the idea that she is somehow a hypocrite because of her daughter’s teen pregnancy is another false lie.
It reminds me of what was done to Big Dawg and Hillary for all those years. Anything to destroy a real change agent. The Palins are just like the Clintons in that they built themselves up from modest means, understand the problems of real Americans and actually intend to live up to their word and change things. And many elitists in both the media and in Washington want them destroyed.
Nothing freaking new.
Peter Matthiessen may be a great writer, but he sounds like a malaka to me.
Seriously,
Those are really good points too. I think you might be right, except that I think these guys are feeling really virtuous about supporting the black guy.
angie,
What’s a malaka?

I agree. Rich white guys that give liberalism a bad name. It disgusts me.
Good analysis, Lori. I don’t know how many times I heard the “it would be so cool to elect a black guy”. It reminds me of how some Christians focus on abortion because it requires no sacrifice on their part while helping the poor would require sacrifice.
Lori — great job — sick or no, I don’t think it could have been any more spot on!
bb:
Malaka (Mah-lah-kah) is a Greek word — the closest translation is a “j*rk off” but a more literal translation is “a man who is so pathetic that he can’t get a woman & has to j*rk off all the time.”Alan Colmes, for example, is a big time malaka.
“It’s a gesture that is so… Electing that guy would restore our credibility in a way no other act could do. I think it would be thrilling.”
I actually had a conversation about this over the weekend. Really, these post-progs don’t care about Bush policies, it seems — they’re het up about an uppity woman like Sarah Palin, not about policy. They don’t truly give a damn about substance. I’m starting to think that Bush hurt their *vanity* more than their ethics. And BO is the ultimate vanity candidate — “he makes meeeee feel good about meeeee.” He makes travel to Italy less embarrassing. He makes the vanity voters forget that they actually have to share a country with the unwashed, unlovely masses (that they pretend to care about).
This election has really revealed the vanity voters to me.
Good points, Lori. I think classism has a great deal to do with it as well. You will likely find that not only are these elite liberals largely well to do now, but many were raised well to do or aspired to same at an early point in their life. And I am not dissing those among us who are well to do in any way! What I am saying is that many of us Hillary supporters and non-obama supporters were raised in an environment where we needed to see through the BS either to survive or thrive. Of course, many of the AA population had to as well, and that is likley why they were initially gravitated to the pragmatic populism of Hillary before they were hoodwinked into voting for one of their own, even though many here are doubtful of that particular aspect of hs identity.
This elitism is maddening to me, it is a self-fulfilling form of identity politics- I pick the latest fad, therefore I am the latest fad.
Isn’t it amazing?
Reading PM’s reason for supporting BO, it is so shallow. It’s all so trendy & exciting! Nothing about his qualifications, his performance to date, his principles, his policies. And the same goes for Palin–in reverse. He throws out the knee-jerk smears against her. She’s a “creationist, a fundamentalist.” Has she governed that way? There is no evidence that her personal beliefs have guided or formed her policy decisions in any extreme fashion.
I am continually shocked by the superficiality of people’s research into the candidates, regardless of how “educated” they are. Everyone is passing around the same rumors and basing critical decisions on these propaganda points. Quite discouraging. I have several “elite” friends, and they regurgitate media talking points as fact and think they are oh-so-enlightened and progressive. Isn’t it actually more progressive to step outside of your comfortable box and support someone who is diametrically opposed to your preconceived notions? Today, I heard Palin interviewed on the radio. She said, “I know I’m plain spoken, but I think it’s really important for people to know who Obama is, what he has done, what he plans to do, and to hold him accountable.” After all the intolerance and ignorance coming from these “elites,” I find plain-speak quite refreshing, and even more “revolutionary” than Obama’s conniving Chicago tactics in it’s own way.
“It reminds me of how some Christians focus on abortion because it requires no sacrifice on their part while helping the poor would require sacrifice.”
Yep, that’s the other part. “It makes meeeee feel good about meeee… and I don’t actually have to do anything!”
I absolutely agree with Lori about hiding the misogyny with the “nobility” of supporting the minority candidate . They have mythologised him at this point ; to match their inflated views of him and thereby inflate themselves .
No matter what lies he talls , what positions he has taken that are insupportable , what really insidious background he has by association and participation , what complete lack of experience he has , and what threat he poses, his candidacy gives new meaning to the phrase ” deus ex machina ” .
He is the cult divinity created by the chicago thug machine produced to come out of a cloud on a swing, to uphold the cause of the poor and downtrodden , rob the rich to pay the poor etc etc ,and none of it has anything to do with the truth .

fif, you speak to my soul.
I find Palin heartening, and she has governed in a way that does not warant the false rumors spread about her.
It makes me think about how I would feel in her position. I’m a forward thinking enough girl with a decent head on my shoulders, I am fiscally moderate and a moderate pacifist, but I have always had to acknowledge that my religious and social beliefs are farther to the left than mainstream America.
Sarah Palin is like me. She is moderate on matters of state, but her Religious and Cultural views are farther to the right than mainstream Americans.
But, as a social conservative, she doesn’t feel that she has a right to impose those beliefs on the people she governs. If I were ever elected to an office like hers, I would be the same way.
Now, the Obamacrats are trying to paint her as this crazy conservative goon that speaks in tongues on a regular basis and has a car plastered with pro-life stickers containing bloody fetuses.
It would make me mad if I ever was chosen to be on a national party ticket, and Republicans were painting me as a leftist crazy that sacrifices kittens and wants “under god” to be taken out of the pledge of allegiance.
angie,
I’m going to have to remember that one. It sounds a lot like macaka though.

OK, thanks for the warning, Angie.
Whether an individual is bright or not, being wrong is equal opportunity, and I would hazard to say that when it comes to those that are very bright, they get things very wrong.
Of the professors with whom I have had the privilege of reading, those that most impressed me were those that said “I don’t know” and often.
Higher education is well populated with frauds.
Really, why would anyone care what an author/literary critic thinks of the current election is beyond me (IMHO).
I think elitist liberals support Obama because he’s an experienced virgin in the world of politics.
It’s so easy for them, they can’t be bothered with the down-and-dirty fighting, and having to defend him on specifics. He’s black teflon, no one knows sh*t about him to knock him off his pedestal, and he’s got just enough experience for some folks to wave off as valuable. He”s like a Victoria Secret’s supermodel who is still a technical virgin. A dream woman for many men.
By the time we discover the truth, they’ll have moved on.
I think it has a lot to do with Obama being a “non-threatening” bi-racial man who is “black” but is in every other way identical to the arrogant, elitist rich white men who identify with him. He is their “savior”; someone who can “restore their credibility”. This isn’t just about the credibility of the nation’s global reputation. This is also to the rich white liberal, redemption or their reparation for benefiting from a long history of r@cism in this country. This election has given the rich white liberal an excuse to place all the blame on poor whites even though they are the ones who have benefitted the most from our r@cist past. It’s really f*#ked up if you think about it.
“Now, the Obamacrats are trying to paint her as this crazy conservative goon that speaks in tongues on a regular basis and has a car plastered with pro-life stickers containing bloody fetuses.”
I really hate the religious intolerance aspect of it, too. I mean, I’m an athiest, so I guess this stuff is targeted right at me, but….I’m sorry? I have plenty of religious friends and family members, and no, I don’t think they’re ignorant goons from the Middle Ages. Ooh, they pray against evil spirits….yes, it’s church. That’s what people do there. It’s not exactly unusual for most religious denominations, most people don’t necessarily take it 100% literally, and it doesn’t make them crazy.
jvsp,
How true. But these are the kinds of people who get interviewed on NPR. And they are treated as oracles. If regular people call in and don’t conform to the elitist narrative, they get cut off or laughed at.
Seriously: Yes, I saw that Larry Summers is an advisor. Jeez louise…..
Summers is probably advising on equal rights and equal pay for women.
I think it does have to do with race. These types can sit in their ivory towers or S.F. mansions and not be concerned with what the average man or woman deals with daily. They can, in some cases, literally look down upon the hoi polloi and know that they are so much better than them because, you see, they have looked beyond race to vote for a black candidate. It shows how enlightened and beyond it all that they are. Never mind that their chosen hasn’t done shit in his career. And, excuse me but f@ck the Europeans! They don’t live here and I don’t inject myself into their politics. 😡
parentofed- that is another unique perspective, and perhaps an extension of the “empty vessel” or “blank slate” aspect of his personality, where they can project their own thoughts and “dreams”. Ironically, though. we have found and are finding that his past, though still unclear, is a mess of questionable associations and shady dealings, hardly pure as the driven snow (and there is nothing ra*ist implied here).
Seriously — LMAO — “Ooh, they pray against evil spirits . . .yes, it’s church. That’s what people do there.” I’m not an atheist, but really, you pretty much nailed it.
Isis, you’re a sweetheart.
I find Palin heartening too, and as a woman, it hurts me to see another sister demonized this way–especially by other women. You mentioned Madonna above. Did you see the clip of her at a concert saying she wanted to “kick Palin’s a*s?” This is a strong, modern woman? I obviously have differences with Palin on certain issues, but I can admire he strength, her courage to be thrust on the national stage and not back down, her ability to connect to people in a genuine way, her energy. Another “liberal” woman sent me an email with Palin surrounded by hunted animals–the bloodier the better. The HORROR! I have relatives in Western PA who hunt. It’s not my thing, but they are loving, kind, generous and honorable people. They do it with the utmost respect and responsibility, as the Native Americans did. Where do these elite people think their meat comes from? Palin is from another culture. In AK, they hunt and live outdoors quite a bit. Why is Obama’s cultural background so “exotic” and hers is considered so “primitive.” As Guiliani said at the Convention, Wasilla is not “cosmopolitan enough” for Obama and his supporters. I’ll take real any day.
Regency is back and has read it. Awwwww.

Like another famous Obamabot: Gwyneth Paltrow. She supported Obama while Clinton was still running even though she always touts being an advocate for women’s rights and reproductive freedom. I get emails from her sometimes through Planned Parenthood.
So many young people support Obama because they’re convinced they’re standing up for a cause. You’d think I was Bull Connor with dogs if I tried to discuss issues. Oh, they’re so brave, so radical, so chic! Some day the history books will tout their brave stand for truth and justice, and their kids will ask them how it was back in old 2008, when injustice ruled America. Just talk to them, I swear that’s how their gullible little minds work. Most of them, the “oracles”, are bitter.

I agree. A lot of my freinds and family members are religious conservatives and I love them as I would love anyone else, because, like skin color, it doesn’t matter.
I judge a person not on their race, gender, political affiliation, or religion, but on the content of their characters. Obambie’s character is reprehensible, far more so than Palin’s.
I think it has a lot to do with Obama being a “non-threatening” bi-racial man who is “black” but is in every other way identical to the arrogant, elitist rich white men who identify with him. IT IS F*&^ED UP!!! It is unbelievable, because Obama’s paternal father was an wealthy Arab African Muslim with several wives, and his maternal mother was the daughter of a wealthy bank VP. Obambi’s Grandfather was, I believe a descendant of slave owners.
And yet, Hillary Clinton, a woman related to scottish coal mining immigrants, Native Americans, and French Canadians with no slave owning ancestry, as far as I know, was a member of the freaking KKK. She was a rich white supremecist, even though she grew up in the middle class.
Obama lies about growing up from modest means. he went to a pristigious private school in Hawiia.
These rich whites, all of which have benefited from racism, think they are so damn special because they are supporting the biracial guy. For them, it’s all fine and dandy, because regardless of who wins, it doesn’t affect them at all.
I could go on and on about this.
Speaking of Obama, go check out the list of ACORN companies listed by Larry Johnson at NQ. There are about 260 companies under that umbrella. There’s a bunch in NM, some in MA, lots & lots in ta,dum MO, land of the Claire.
I’m thinking that 1] we’re going to see how Claire won a narrow victory in 2006 with ACORN’s help and 2] we’re going to better understand why she luvs some Obama.
I’m hoping to wave to both of them as they leave the courtroom after fraud, etc convictions.
Fredster,
Don’t you think the fact that Italians loved a young girl’s Obama button and rushed her to the head of a line is a good reason to vote for him?

I think it has a lot to do with Obama being a “non-threatening” bi-racial man who is “black” but is in every other way identical to the arrogant, elitist rich white men who identify with him. He is their “savior”; someone who can “restore their credibility”.
Good point DV. Before the last debate, they showed him at the airport, with his designer sunglasses, his coat thrown over his shoulders. He looked like he was posing for a GQ ad. Why do you think he’s “pals” with George Clooney. We live in the Entertainment Tonight culture. Real journalists warned about this coming years ago, and here it is in all it’s ignorant glory.
Don’t you think the fact that Italians loved a young girl’s Obama button and rushed her to the head of a line is a good reason to vote for him?
All this “magical thinking” re: Obama. If he does pull this off, boy are they going to be disappointed to find out that he is a mere mortal–and a dishonest one at that.
fif- your 12:10 post couldn’t have been better written. Outstanding, outstanding stuff. Sadly, have run into the same emptyheaded parroting of msm talking points among way WAY too many friends and acquantainces.
It gets pretty sad having to downgrade the opinion of people you formerly respected on an intellectual basis, shaking your head as they spit up the same tired vapidity on offer from most every channel/newspaper/media outlet.
BB: No! lol !!
Now the Italian men might have rushed the young girl to the front of the line, with or without her Obie button.
I actually grew up spending the first 25 summers of my life in Europe (my mom is from Athens, Greece) — unlike Obama, I’ve actually traveled extensively throughout Europe. There is nothing quite so pathetic as Americans who like to pretend they are “European” (as if Europeans are all “one” thing). You know what Europeans call Mr. Matthiessen when he leaves the room? The American. lol He needs to get over himself, stat.
and btw — I don’t mean that as an insult to Americans — I’m American, I love America — but what I find laughable is the inauthenticity of Americans like Peter Matthiessen — it is much more sophisticated (or “European” if you will) to be authentic.
“Palin surrounded by hunted animals–the bloodier the better. The HORROR! I have relatives in Western PA who hunt. It’s not my thing, but they are loving, kind, generous and honorable people”
I wouldn’t like to hunt either but–are these people vegetarians? Probably not. And meatpacking is one of the most hellish, dangerous jobs in the world. But as long as they don’t have to do it, they could care less what recent immigrants getting paid minimum wage go through. And then they defend the guy who blows up buildings–once again, cognative dissonance. bb is so right, it’s so elitist–killing animals is wrong! Gimme my filet mignon! And people? I don’t care so much!
lori,
What a spot on assessment. It makes so much sense. I hadn’t thought of the misogyny this vote for BO covered up. good job. I’m going to use this as my personal talking point with my family.
I know they are excited about voting for obama because he is black. I am certain that they think it will more than make up for the times they moved away from the neighborhoods that were “changing”. And they are more than a little unhappy when they hear me say I won’t vote for him and I don’t like his wife.
Good lords and ladies! you’d think I had just called him a r@cist name.
When my sister started calling Hillary names, I said, “enough”. And you’d think Governor Palin was actually Satan. I asked if they weren’t just a bit confused, since they didn’t seem to know whom they hated more, women or Republicans.

Isis: HRC has Native American ancestry?
Off topic, but I had to swerve to avoid killing Shrek tonight. Yes, it was Shrek lying face down in the middle of the boulevard. Poor guy. Damn that donkey for turning him on to kool-aid, anyway.
I think Europeans rightly want a Democrat in office. After 8 years of Bush, no one looking in from the outside would want a Republican and since Europeans are more socially liberal, they wouldn’t see a pro-life hunter from Alaska favorably. Many American still don’t fully understand what Obama and the DNC did to Hillary Clinton during the primary. I don’t expect most Europeans to even know about Obama choosing to disenfranchise two states or his race baiting. To those who wish to wear rose colored glasses, Obama is perfect. He is black, young, and because of the young people who support him “cool”.
Europeans do want a Dem in office. Ze French Boyfriend who knows I’m a PUMA said, “Do it for the Europeans! We want a Democratic president.”
He doesn’t bother me too much, he doesn’t have a dog in this fight.

HRC’s grandma is native american. Look at her picture in the book. That ain’t just a tan.
Lil Isis: You have to be open to liberal swapping. I really love spending my weekends in Hillary’s pantsuits.
Isis: Which is it again? Iriqois(?) or Cherokee?
Seriously: That fundraiser for Obama the other night had mahi-mahi. No, they did not kill it by hunting it down & shooting it like some Sarah Palin. They gently talked it to death, while playing Chinese flute music under a cool breeze.
It gets pretty sad having to downgrade the opinion of people you formerly respected on an intellectual basis, shaking your head as they spit up the same tired vapidity on offer from most every channel/newspaper/media outlet.
So true RV. I have had more than my share of confrontations this election cycle (being a PUMA, it comes with the rebellious territory), and I look at many friends differently. They think they are superior, the “enlightened liberals,” and the rest of the country are rac*st rednecks, too stupid to vote for their self-interest. I now see clearly that they are very narrow minded and judgmental. It is especially obvious with the “feminists” and their harsh attacks on Palin. It’s stunning that they do not see the contradiction. One good thing that will come out of this for all of us is that we have been educated in new ways, and hopefully, our own thinking and awareness have expanded.
Fredster, Lori totally nailed it about how these guys clokk their misogyny with a righteous pose of anti-racism. So in that sense, it has to do with race. But fundamentally, what’s motivating them is hatred of Clinton. My personal opinion from what I’ve read over the past few years, the liberal blogosphere overall is equally racist and sexist, and in their ideal world, they would much rather have had a white guy bring down the woman. When they saw that wasn’t going to work, in their Sophie’s Choice they fell back on Obama and patted themselves on the back for being such staunch anti-racist champions. However, had it been Obama vs. the white dudes, my bet is that Obama would have gotten pretty much the same treatment as Clinton.
They gently talked it to death, while playing Chinese flute music under a cool breeze.
LOL! And let’s not forget that Todd Palin & Sarah have done their fair share of commercial fishing, braving the icy northern waters.

Maybe they just put the mahi-mahi in a room with constant loops of Obama speeches and they died of boredom and disgust.
Fredster — consider the source though — I seriously doubt that story is true — first, he admits it is hearsay (I heard my friend’s daughter). Second, note the set up — not just in Italy, but at a “gallery in Florence” (how sophisticated — as if Italians, so much more sophisticated then us Americans, hang out at galleries all day long & don’t have to work for a living). BS — the gallery in Florence is full of tourists going to see the David & the Botticellis — I know, I’ve been there. Finally, they were so “happy to see the button?” Maybe they were, but maybe they were just interested/curious (as to why in the world someone would be wearing a button for an American candidate in Florence) or maybe the girl was a true Obot & brought it up & they were polite. All in all it is a convenient, unverifiable story but highly unlikely to be true — like an urban legend.

According to our pantsuit wife, anyway.

The Kid is way into Talking Like a Pirate [just cuz they’re were so many when she grew up here eastern KY] and she says that ending it with -g or -gh is just plain wrong. She is a proponet of the ARRR sound.
We have argued over this for about 15 years, she finds validation for her way, I find validation for mine.
Anyone really, really know pirate talk?
Fredster — I’m not saying that you know him — that’s my point — why judge Italians by a hearsay story from a guy who is obviously an Obot? The story isn’t true — it is a fabrication to make us believe that Obama is the “sophisticated” choice of those who wile away their days at galleries in Florence & McCain is the choice of the uncouth hillbillies.

good night all.
leslie said, “I am certain that they think it will more than make up for the times they moved away from the neighborhoods that were ‘changing’.”
BINGO. It’s a get-out-of-racism free card.
To state it more humanely, I think a lot of white liberals see a vote for Obama as a blade to slice through the Gordian knot of their own tangled history.
A lot of people my age (born in the 60s) grew up in a very tense time in which conflicting political interests were, how shall way say, mishandled. We were children, so did not cause what happened, but we are left with its uncomfortable legacy. Perhaps, like the Obot spouse, you have memories of treating the bussed-in black kids as curiosities. Or you were one of my many friends whose parents fled to the ‘burbs. Perhaps, like me, you grew up in the shadow of the American racial Berlin Wall. Your hometown pretended to be liberal but tightened the spigot on black influx. The attitudes of the time can never be wholly rooted out of our souls, as much as we want them to.
I think there are a lot of people quietly grappling with this. Supporting Obama might even be a very weird way of saying, “We’re sorry.”
night fif!
i’ve been monitoring the world media for years.
one, i’ve never seen any of the billions of articles on BO being listed as “most read” or “most popular” or whatever.
in australia, every talk show host on tax-payer-funded ABC radio is given talking points and pro-BO stuff is always on the list whether it’s morning, noon or 4am in the morning. finally i heard one host say the other night: it’s said australians are #4 on the list of countries that want BO to win, but i don’t know about that.
reason is no-one and i mean no-one ever brings up his name, no-one i repeat no-one has the slightest clue who he is, what his policies are, etc.
it has been said on american blogs in recent years that dubya so messed up the middle east that the US needs to get in on the energy deals in africa, which china is dominating.
bo/biden like to bring up darfur on a regular basis. expect action there if BO wins, but it is all about oil. BO wants sudan to accept an international force.
having closely monitored the darfur story – where, amusingly, the janjaweed (who are blacker than black) are always described as “arab rebels” as opposed to BO who is never to be called arab african. what i can say is i watched as the western corpmedia added a ZERO to the figures for those killed almost overnight.
yes, there is fighting in sudan etc., as elsewhere in the world, but sudan has the OIL.
btw, it’s a shame even the anti-BO websites went along with the fake number of people at BO’s berlin “event”. as was reported on blogs, ZDF in germany was estimating 20,000 and the pics with the thinning crowd looked nothing like 200,000. just another ZERO added to keep up the world loves BO mantra.
that’s my rant.
It’s a complete narcissistic daisy chain. I’m enlightened and so I’m supporting the black guy and the evidence of my enlightenment is the fact I support the black guy…
Bravo, Lori – you’ve really hit an important nail on the head here. And bravo, BB – you’ve broached a subject which, to my knowledge, no one else out there has had the guts to touch. There are a lot of good, and intriguing, thoughts in this thread. Is there any possibility it can be held over through tomorrow as a sort of running topic? The reason I ask is that this very subject has been bedeviling me for some time now, and it has to be bedeviling others. On the face of it (no pun there), Obama’s nomination makes no sense at all. And neither would his winning this election (goddess forbid).
I have a half-formed (half-baked?) theory that Obama’s unprecedented ascendancy in the presence of a whole passel of negatives, any one of which would’ve sunk any other (white) candidate, has to do with the encroaching moral bankruptcy of an increasingly atomized American culture. Obama offers faux virtue, or as someone else so aptly put it the other night, cheap grace.
At any rate, glad I caught this thread before it slid down the page…
Night, fif.
All right, friends, I shall go take a shower now. If anyone’s up I’ll give a wave and a shout. Otherwise I’ll be looking at my television with a sort of lost look on my face. Ferraro said it best; he wouldn’t be where he is if he wasn’t Black. And it’s true. Obama is conveniently Black – Black enough to satisfy the vaguely so-called liberal conscience of being on the “right side of history” but not one of those inconvenient actual Black people with long history in the country, parents who grew up in segregation and grandparents who feared actual lynchings (not the virtual high tech kind). Obama is, except for his complexion, exactly like them, and in those circles (I used to run in them a bit in college) it is very fashionable theoretically for the downtrodden masses, because you don’t actually have to be around them. A person like Obama makes it easy because they can cloak racism, classism, and sexism all in one nice package.
fif: I left the liberal tribe too, and am now wandering in the wilderness. The Obama phenomenon has greenlighted the most egregious display of sexism, classism and homophobia I have ever had the displeasure of beholding.
Gays? Well, gosh it’s too bad about the fags, but they’re only 5% of the population and besides, they’re icky, so they just gotta understand.
Women? Hello, are we at the final stage of grieving yet? Those stupid feminazi bitches gotta being so damned hysterical.

Yeah, and also when Obama says this whack %$#^ about feeding kids Popeye’s chicken for breakfast and all this, then Obots also feel like they have permission to repeat it. They’re now experts on what irresponsible parents African Americans supposedly are (and all white people are of course super duper parents), and that’s not racism, that’s not stereotyping, no sirree. Obama said it, Obama knows! It’s unbelievable.

I’ll take credit for citing Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “cheap grace.”
We’re looking at a pretty complicated phenomenon here.
People are generally pretty hard-nosed and see a vote for a Obama as the absolute minimum effort required to retain the “progressive” label.
At the same time, many white liberals are genuinely disturbed by their complicity in the struggles and oppression of the last half-century. They don’t know what to do, so just like Ayers they latch onto Obama as a way out.
There is a strong tribal element too. Key players proclaim Obama cool, and the followers climb on board as fast as they can. Democrat==liberal==progressive==Obama, and any stepping outside of that paradigm means your own people cut you off.
There may also be a subliminal hostility towards blacks. They may have seized upon Obama as a way to stop the politics of endless recrimination. “Okay, we gave you a black President. Now STFU.” I think Obama as a tool to defang blacks’ hopes is actually the greatest threat to them.
I believe Axelrod gets all this and played my fellow white liberals like a piano.
Oh my you must go over to deadenders and read the write up on M.O.
deadenders.wordpress.com
Seriously, yes Obama is a total white racism enabler, too. That’s also part of his hypnotic charm. Like I said, complicated phenomenon.
Is: mmm, it’s so hard to part with the pantsuitness. She just looks so sad to go. All right…I’ll take him for the night but I want her after the debate tomorrow!
Wait a minute. Hillary’s totally going to be at the debate tomorrow. She’s so giving him the answer. Watch for blinking in Morse code. Watch McCain totally pick up on it because he’s a flyboy and they can do that then steal all the answers.
Watching Bill right now by the way.
elderj said, “Obama is conveniently Black – Black enough to satisfy the vaguely so-called liberal conscience of being on the “right side of history” but not one of those inconvenient actual Black people with long history in the country, parents who grew up in segregation and grandparents who feared actual lynchings.”
Biden’s remark that Obama is clean, articulate and bright is actually rich with political meaning because of what you cite. Obama is the ideal bridge between affluent white liberals who use blacks as a pawn in a class war against lower class whites, and blacks who seek allies to augment their own political power beyond their 12% of the population. Were it not for these respective payoffs, the two groups would never speak to one another.
spot on.
i’m off to sleep now. g’night.
Night angie
Reg–how funny would it be if he answered the first question, I don’t know. But there’s a little lady over there who can answer you. Why don’t you go see her after the debate.
Seriously: I shall.
Hillary, meet me behind the bleachers!
Lori — I absolutely agree. After the primaries, when I found a few other closeted Clinton supporters at my workplace, one woman who I’ve always found to be very perceptive said she thinks Obama’s race ‘excused’ them from having to vote for ‘the b*tch’.
I really think that was a lot of it. If Obama wasn’t in the race, their sexism would have been laid bare, and they couldn’t have that — far too many supposedly progressive men pay lip service to feminism, but only in its ineffective form where they don’t have to be inconvenienced by it in any way. That’s also the reason for the savage drive to frame her as a monster, and the crap about voting for a woman just not that woman, etc. etc. It is the protests too much syndrome.

ugsome,
You are spot on!!!! Its about class and keeping the majority of the lower classes in their place. That is why they will never support a women. Women are the poor and lower class, and there are too many of them.
The fact that blacks are 12% is exactly why they are used in this way. Their population is too small to threaten the elite. Poor and working class whites pose the threat of redistribution of wealth if allowed too much power. The elite in this country have worked very hard to define oppression in terms of race only, rather than by class and or gender. This is so they can maintain their wealth and power. Throwing the blacks a bone is much safer than dealing with real economic justice.
Fredster, is that real?
We should have tried to arrange for a group of people to stand outside the debate. They could all be wearing pantsuits of various colors and carrying signs, “Hillary: America’s Pantsuit Wife.”
Well, Mr. Pretentious Artsy Guy, some of us don’t think we should base our votes on the opinions of children we don’t even know.
That little (obviously made up) vignette is v. revealing, just not in the way he meant. Some child in another country is for Obama so I’m supposed to vote for him too? This is what we’ve come to, voting on basis of 8 year olds’ preferences?
The single, solitary argument for Obama has been, since the beginning of the campaign, “he can draw a crowd.” That’s it. Oh, the obots change the words around and occasionally throw in little heart-tuggers like this Very Special Hallmark Episode story of the little Italian girl (is she very, very poor? lives in a garrett? has a mean, mean stepmother who makes her do all the housework by her own little self?). But it all comes down to one post-rational argument: vote for him because other people think he’s cool. Nothing else. No wonder they have to resort to race-baiting.
Here’s a look at today’s polls. Could be worse for McCain…Not impossible for him to catch up…
ZOGBY WEDNESDAY: OBAMA 48.2%, MCCAIN 44.4%… NOT SURE 7.4%…
RASMUSSEN: OBAMA 50% MCCAIN 45%…

She was a knockout, our pantsuity wife. Too bad when she got too Yale she had to wear googly glasses and plaid pants for any of the liberal white elitist slobs to take her seriously.

We should have tried to arrange for a group of people to stand outside the debate. They could all be wearing pantsuits of various colors and carrying signs, “Hillary: America’s Pantsuit Wife.”

Whoops, bad link!!!!
Here is the teenage picture of our pantsuity wife I was meaning to show:
I’m in! Although I look horrible in a pantsuit. Maybe Hillary will advise me.
Isis: the water is running, damn it and Big D Candy is waiting and you hit me with this? On second thought, thanks, need something to get the boy really going. I love this pic of her. She looks a lil like cousin Angelina in it. And they like to say she was never beautiful. Bollocks! Was and Is. Built like the Parthenon and I like it.
Okay, Big D Candy can’t wait anymore or he’s threatening to steal our pantsuit wife and take her in my closet. I have no idea what’s in there since I haven’t been in there in years.
darn it!! The link is still bad!!!
Look, you all get the idea.
We can so do it! Some people can hold “Member of the Sisterhood” and others can hold the “Hillary: America’s Pantsuit Wife” signs. She will never know what that means but she will laugh. “Big Dawg Candy: America’s #1 Pimp”? Yes? Yes?
“Will you be joining the America’s Pantsuit Wife Polymory group with Regency and I? (eyes become shiny)”
Can I wear the yellow bumblebee pantsuit?
No, no! Big Dawg Candy: Original Bubba.
Seriously: You sure can. I shall be wearing Hillary, so we shall match.
Priolix, african media looks like a legit site just from a quick glance–but seriously, how dumb would it be for Michelle Obama to call them up and start ranting about racist media outlets trying to bring down a black man? It sounds fishy.
I think she would be touched and amused by a whole line of people in pantsuits.
LOL

He could not have taken Clinton down with the misogyny and the cheating had not his race allowed his supporters to convince themselves that they were the noble ones for supporting the African American and therefore cannot engage in something as ignorable as vote theft or misogyny – after all, they wouldn’t be supporting the black guy if that’s what they were like.

Mmmm, Bill is just jealous!!!! He does not get his pantsuity wife back until we are done with her!!!
Tis only fair!!!
I never got what people said about how Hillary looks. She was and is lovely. She has a classically pretty face. Not like mine. People would say my face is “impish”, “elfish”, “quirky”, “fairy-like”, ect. But Hillary is a classic beauty. And she has, it has to be said, a very nice “figure”, even by hollywood’s ridiculous standards, which she has managed to retain well enough, even with her age.
She is a real beauty, but men (cough, Chris Matthews) can’t stand that she chooses not to flaunt it. Sarah Palin is the same way, she is a dazzlingly pretty, but she dresses conservatively and keeps her hair back and glasses on. It’s the only way women are taken seriously in Politics, and men still spout their sexist remarks over it.

Yeah… his polygamist dad that left when he was two.
What a role model.
Half the time they say Palin is “dressing like a slut to attract male voters.” It’s a crime to be pretty, god forbid anyone who really wasn’t pretty ran, they’d absolutely go insane.

That is why girls are so discouraged about going into politics. It is a “Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t” Syndrome. The women will be patronized and criticized no matter what they do.
Seriously, Fredster,
I followed the links and saw the underlying website. I just find it hard to believe and my sense of irony is acute. It is without a doubt on the top ten list of most outrageous moments of this campaign.
If it can be verified, this will be 24/7 for the next 21 days on Rush, et al.
Palin dresses like a slut?
Well, they go insane as long as it’s a woman running for high office, don’t they? Mother Theresa could run and they’d find names to call her.
Yeah, and EOF posted a link yesterday about how his grandfather, who he’s also all about, used to hang with this guy who, it turns out, is the author of an anonymous memoir about his experiences with rape and pedophelia. The grandfather and the guy used to drink together and then have Obama help them make up dirty limericks. He sounds like an amazing guy, too.

Well, for Chris Matthews, it is really because he wants to boink them. He has a secret attraction to powerful women and it drives him crazy that he wants to tap that ass. And it translates to aggression and salivating pleas for interviews. And molesting Ellen Degeneres on her own show, ect.

WWWOOOWWW…
Obama has some great role models, doesn’t he? Wow, what a cool guy.
(throws up)
“That is why girls are so discouraged about going into politics. It is a “Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t” Syndrome. The women will be patronized and criticized no matter what they do.”
Exactly. If you’re female, you can’t win. You’re either a bimbo or an ugly pig. And like, if I were a journalist and went around giving my opinion on Obama’s hotness or lack thereof, everyone would think I’m a bimbo and a flake. But an awful lot of journalists or bloggers who are taken seriously feel the need to play hot or not with palin (go down a couple of threads, the guy who reviewed the YA books about Obama says he doesn’t find her that hot), and nobody thinks anything about that, they just snicker at her over it as if it somehow makes her less serious that these idiots are treating her this way.
Absolutely. If it’s true, it’s explosive. I just find it hard to believe she would be so indiscrete.
There is no way that interview with MO is legit.
If you haven’t already, read MO’s “thesis” (if you can stomach it). Really, it “says” it all.
[Recommendations for this “literary” exercise: Dramamine => read => morphine]
I know, that actually made me feel sorry for Obama. With these role models, he basically had no chance. And the grandfather was manipulative, too, remember how the grandmother was getting harssed by a guy and asked him to drive her to the bus stop, and instead he made a big production of telling his grandson that she was only afraid because the guy who was bothering her was black? That’s messed up.
I am so discouraged by it. I have said a million times before, no one cares what male politicians look like. Karl Rove looks like a hermet frog in a suite. David Axelrod is so repulsive, he reminds me of a kneecap with a mustache. Larry Summers is a disgusting fat oily pig, and I wouldn’t go near his penis with a five foot pole. Micheal Moore is so utterly unf*@&able, I think even a goat would take a pass when he asked to buy her a drink.
And yet, these men are heroes, and Hillary is an old ugly bitch, even though she looks gorgeous for her age and is obviously a very nice person.
And Sarah Palin is a dumb Bimbo, even though she doesn’t flaunt her sexiness and is obviously very thoughtful and intelligent.
And yet, sometimes I feel like no one notices these blaringly obvious things except for me. And all of you on this blog, whom I adore.

I don’t make excuses for Obie because of who he grew up with. He had a great childhood, one that a lot of kids would give anything for. Including me.
What can I say, living close by the Uffizi and knowing those lines the way I do, yes, probably some people did flock to the Obama button. But people here also liked Hillary a lot.
“no one cares what male politicians look like.”
Exactly! Rush Limbaugh has this line about how feminism is a movement for ugly women to enter the mainstream. And it’s like, well, if that were true, would that be so bad? Look in the mirror dude, you’re living proof that being incredibly ugly is no impediment to success for a man. And where the hell do you get off judging who is and is not ugly, like they’re suppsoed to feel bad that they don’t meet your standards? It’s not even as issue, but every woman is judged on every little thing and subjected to this endless game that they can never win. They’re either too sexy and that means they’re using their appearance to get ahead so we can’t take tem seriously, or not sexy enough and their appearance is holding them back. Lose-lose.
LiL Isis, I ditto everything you said.
I love powerful women, as Chris Matthews does, but I’m not afraid of them. Dude, power is sexy, especially when it’s exerted in perfect ways. Chris is mad because these women don’t want him, don’t even consider him acceptable company, much less sexually attractive.

Chris always just made me laugh. It was just hilarious. It’s like I said, he was so pathetic, during the primaries, daily begging her to come on his show whilst spitting up on himself and drooling. He wanted her soooo bbaaaddd. And Hillary was like, “Eeeewwwww!!!” and carried pepper spray with her when he was at her press conferences. Someone said he’s had a crush on her since she was first lady. Still hilarious. And I agree, powerful women are sexah.
Lil Isis, remember he asked her out back during the Watergate hearings and she turned him down. He has never forgiven her, but he’s never stopped wanting her either.

He knew her from Watergate days, she turned him down, he never got over it.

Yes. Maybe in some alternate universe, some woman from Hungary thinks Rush Limbaugh is slightly attractive and would be willing to bionk him if he payed her 300k.
But Rush is not ridiculed for this. Imagine if he were a woman.
If Rush was a woman, it would be “Rush who?”

I have chronicled the entire sad story about it on my livejournal. Here you go, one sec:
http://littleisis13.livejournal.com/
It is the post underneath the first one, called “A Sad Day”. And a sad day it was…
I saw this show about Air America radio one time, and the only thing I could think of, is, the women are on the radio, why do they have to be pretty? I was expecting them all to be ugly since, you know, no one sees them. There wasn’t one ugly woman I saw the whole show. lol
Hungarian women are incredibly attractive and do not need to stoop down to Rush’s level! Too bad they are saddled with Hungarian men though 🙂
Karl Rove looks like a hermet frog in a suite. David Axelrod is so repulsive, he reminds me of a kneecap with a mustache. Wow. I’ve always thought it is so odd with Micheal Moore. You know, I have always thought that Micheal Moore is the Ann Coulter of the Republican party. And Ann is so pretty whilst Micheal Moore, as I previously explained, is so unf*%$able that even a goat would refuse him if he asked to buy her a drink.
Know I know not to buy into the stereotype that liberals tend to be sexy and conservatives, not sexy.
I would tap Palin any day. And if Romney weren’t so sleazy and creepy, I might think he was cute too.
Sorry Little Isis. (:
Reading your lj, LI
Shit, the stuff that Fredster linked to is scary! Keep following the links and you find more and more stuff. Just when you get to the absolute proof of the connections between Obama and Odinga, though, you find that “the article you are linking to no longer exists on Google”. Typical.
(Sorry about the bad day, I mean)
Ooh, Romney, for real? He’s kinda smarmy. He reminds me of a game show host or the guy who sells used cars. There’s just something creepy about him. I think his replacement, Patrick, is kinda cute in a nerdy way. However, he’s been touched by Axlerod and is also a FOO.

I agree!!!! But you know, I think every great work of literature should start out with a Little Isis quote. In Hillary’s next book, her first chapter should start out with a top quote of mine, one of my best, it will say;
CHAPTER ONE
“And remember!!!! Only the thongs call the panties promiscuous!!!”

LI: I’m sorry you’ve had such a hard time of late, or of always depending on how you feel. You can always tell me anything if you just feel like talking.

I got the same thang from him.
I was saying that if he weren’t so creepy, I might think he was sort of cute.
Now, that Todd Palin. A good picture of him during the full moon and my panties are soaking.

Regency, where are you????
Italian little girls don’t stand in line outside the Uffizi. There are whopping 4 hour queues of tourists standing in line out there every day of the week.
If she was a pretty little AA girl with a nice big Obama button probably she would get noticed, but to draw any other inferences would be mistaken.
Italians are getting to hear more about BO in the last month. That is because Berlusconi’s channel 5news, is pushing him a little-giving a 2 min slot every day. Berlusconi adores Bush, but his channels are now pro-Obama.
I even woke up a couple of days ago to hear that McCain’s prison guard in Vietnam had been found, and that according to him, JM had never been tortured.
Of course no-one mentions Wright, Soros, Brez, etc. BO is pushed as a new Kennedy.
I wouldn’t give much credence to the bodyguard. Mac limps well enough to prove him wrong.
*sigh* Prison guard.

No worries Reg, I was hoping you would just skip the top post and read the one about me deleting my blog, but I guess that was silly of me. 🙂
CHAPTER THREE
“Contemplating both your life and your navel at the same time is a sign of genius.”
-Yet another quote from one of those weird blogger girls claiming to be my wives
I just bought a new computer game tonight. Something called “The Political Machine 2008” It’s got cartoon versions of Hillary, BO, Mac, Guiliani and some other white guys on the cover. It was only $14.88 so it was worth it. I get to pretend to be a presidential candidate and see how I do. They have “smear merchants,”” “war heroes,” and “spin doctors.”
Reg, this was the post about deleting my blog:
It is a sad day for the world. You see, I am currently trying to erase someone from my life. In this information age, erasing a person from your life that was close to you is very hard work. You have to get rid of everything they ever gave you, delete every message or email or text message they ever sent you, boot them from you Tmobile myfaves, get them off of all of your contact lists, including AIM, Yahoo Messenger, your cell phone, every email account you have, including gmail, yahoo, pidgin, google talk, ect. THEN, you have to delete them from MySpace, Facebook, ect.
I wanted to make sure this person could never contact me ever again, so I had to do something heart wrenching. You see, she knew of my blog, Little Isis, and I had to make sure she couldn’t contact me through that, so…
I had to…
Delete…
MY BLOG!!!!
(Sobs uncontrollably).
My blog was a guiding light. It was a safe haven for all as weird and mentally disturbed as me. It was a Palace for the Troubled Soul, a fortress for the Questionable, and a Zen for the Basketcase.
But no more. My Political Awakening was also chronicled on this blog. It was on this blog that I first recorded my legendary Blackberry encounter with the DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile, where I ignited a firestorm and was propelled to blog heroism.
It was on this blog where I lambasted my daily ribbing of Maureen Dowd, and where I routinely destroyed Ann Coulter.
It was on this blog that I posted my thought provoking polls (“Who would you rather have sex with? A Werewolf, or a Vampire?”), where I pasted my moving videos (“Here, you see Mental Vertigo and I rolling Down the Hill behind the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”).
It was on this blog that I celebrated my Eighteenth Birthday, on the Wiccan Holiday of Beltane, and it was on this blog that I confessed my secret hatred for my grandmother. It was on this blog, this blog that was held as a standard for many as to what youthful optimistic feminism should look like.
It is a sad loss, my blog. But I shall not grieve. For with ever great loss, something better is born anew. For every wasted ideal, a new hope. For every scar, great healing.
Little Isis will be back!!!! Better than ever this time!!!! Little Isis will be the blog that kicks ass and takes names!!! Little Isis will be the blog that all look to as a flag bearer for nutcases who readily express their outlandish opinions, who relate their twisted and amusing vulgarities, and who relay the experiences of the odd.
Little Isis will be born again through a virgin womb (mine)!!!
As for news of this fresh new blog, it will be forthcoming, so be patient, my fellow weirdos.
Be yet patient.
My LJ is mostly about personal things, so I have to get an opinion blog, and I think I will do it on wordpress.
“McCain’s prison guard in Vietnam had been found, and that according to him, JM had never been tortured.”
Yeah, he broke his own arms because one day he knew his sleazy opponent would make an issue of his inability to use email and he wanted to illicitly weasel out of his Constitutional cyberchat responsibilities. He’s clever like that.
Do you like living in Italy? (I’m guessing you’re not Italian because of your name).

CHAPTER FOUR
“It is easy and convenient to convince ourselves that we are facing the future, but when we have to reach back in order to assure ourselves that tomorrow has to come some way, somehow, we’re fooling no one. We seek still to find martyred men and warriors in the eyes of people here today because this day and age is new, and we still can’t stop hoping. ”

Ooh, I love Twilight. Where’d you get it? I have to have that one. Hot Topic? I want one to wear to the premiere next month. We’re all piling into a car at midnight to watch.
Oh my goodness, at Reclusive leftist, this amazing woman named Star left the most lovely post for me. It has a poem and I want to just post it here because it is so beautiful:
song says:
Oh yes, Little Isis, Yes! there is great good in this world. Never, never believe otherwise..
and when you forget, if you ever do..think of Dr. Socks
or when you cannot find the words..
remember the Rose.
Was it Love that Grew You, Rose?
“Was it love that grew you, Rose?
Not harboured on the Cliffside by the sea
Red petals beaten by the salt and wind
And litter tossed beneath you carelessly
How delicate the fragrance of your flowers
So ravaged near the careless salty tide
No love has made you, Rose
And Yet your presence whispers, I abide
Was it hope that grew you, Rose?
Did a gardener come and visit you each day?
Was it one or five or three leaves ‘neath the bloom?
To make such flowers to take my breath away
No care has come to you by any hand
I see no shears or powders by your side
No hope has made you, Rose
And yet your presence whispers, I abide
Was it faith that grew you Rose
As winter burned your leaves to memory
And left your little branches cold and bare
Sweet flower on the Cliffside by the sea
How barren are your branches in the snow
Your vibrant flowers are frosted and denied
No faith has made you Rose
And Yet your presence whispers, I abide
Was it peace that grew you Rose
You heard “she loves me not, In singsong way”
Your petals scattered on the ground below
Confetti on the earth for children’s play
Your blooms will never be a bouquet held
For hybrid roses please the city bride
No peace has grown you Rose
And yet, your presence whispers, I abide”
“It was life that grew you Rose
Not faith or hope or love or peace, it’s true
As you braved the barren snows
It was life, that nestled deep inside of you
A force defying logics of the mind
More passion than all human love confides
It was life that made you Rose
I hear your presence whisper, I abide
In the place beyond us all
I visited with you by the morphic sea
You survived the winter snows
As sweet roses past revived your memory
And in simple heart I know
As I memorize these lines before repose
No wise man can realize
How profound you are my precious cliffside rose.”

Reg, does it make you sad? I think my sister is saving up for a wii–but I don’t want her to get depressed.
I’ve been looking at Bill Ayers website recently and found this article on “Trudge towards Freedom: Research, Social Justice, and a Brief for the Conduct of Intellectual Life”.
http://billayers.wordpress.com/2006/06/
here is a sample:
Seriously: My PC game? No I bought it so I could play with the electoral maps and stuff. Any chance for me to see Hildawg, even in cartoon form is worth it. I have such overwhelming affection towards the mere knowledge that Hillary is in this world that very little makes me sad. It’s hard to explain.
This is another sample from Ayers, on Sep 9, 2008 “Research and Teaching”
CHAPTER FOUR
“It is easy and convenient to convince ourselves that we are facing the future, but when we have to reach back in order to assure ourselves that tomorrow has to come some way, somehow, we’re fooling no one. We seek still to find martyred men and warriors in the eyes of people here today because this day and age is new, and we still can’t stop hoping. ”
–Hillary’s much younger concubine, Regency
GASP!!!! No way Reg, I am a way cooler, younger concubine than you!!! If your bday is november 15, and you are eighteen, like me, then you turn nineteen in a month, and I don’t turn 19 till may first???
Am I right???
I don’t know, I think I am, because someone told me you were eighteen…
Ah, if I am wrong, just tell me.

Oh yeah, I am so going to that premier. My best friend and I are trying to get tickets. I got it at hot topic. They are selling fast, and I think I got the last one. But I look AMAZING in it, if I do say so myself, which I do.
Oh, and I know about making posts private. Actually, only my friends have been on it anyway, and I consider you a friend. So I haven’t bothered. But I figure I might want to. Besides, I’ll never actually say what’s REALLY bothering me on my LJ. Little Isis keeps that to herself.
If I like a person enough, I will let them in.

Tell your sister to keep saving. I have always said that it is the most fantastic little machine that humankind has ever invented. If aliens ever come to earth to infest our brains and make us controllers of their galactic empire, like in Animorphs, then they may spare our lives, simply because we invented this fantastic little machine.
Yeah, I don’t know. I looked it up on amazon, and when they said “the person who gets the most electoral votes wins….” I dunno, I think it could be depressing to bring back all those memories and stuff. It looks cool though.
LI: How you gone try to steal my cool? I’ll give you the youth thing but my cool is mine unless I share it with Hillary. Still cooler, damn it!
And yes I so love hoodies. I’m hanging out with Quique, my bff next weekend so I’ll try to wrangle a trip to HT for then. Gotta have that hoodie.
Ooh, I like to be liked. Tell me how you really feel, Isis. I don’t judge, just nod knowledgeably like my pantsuity wife.

Very nice poem about the rose.

I know what you mean. It doesn’t even matter what she’s saying, I see her on TV or whatever and I just feel lighter, she cheers me up so.
I guess it is like, with all the bad in the world, people like Hillary make you believe that there is some good left.
She is an imperfect person, and I think very complicated, but it makes her so very real, because she doesn’t put herself on a pedestal, like other politicians: Obama, Bush, ect.
That is what makes her what she is. She is the type of person that makes you believe everything will be fine.
As silly as that sounds.

“Besides, the Europeans aren’t voting in this election, last I checked.”
Have you checked the last Acorn registrations? – they may be.
Phony symbolism. The Europeans should know first hand the horrible dangers of mass hysteria and consequences of recklessness in leadership. Obama is desperately unqualified, undeserving, unvetted, inconsistent and without character. Not an especially “exotic” or even interesting person. Just another disaster waiting to happen.
Umm, that little story there is bullshit. Most Europeans, and I should know – being one and all that- are regarding the whole thing as a fucking circus. I am yet to see any actual Obama supporters in England except for those paid to write about him in media owned by the same people who own MSNBC, etc. I live in the bggest city in Europe where Caucasians are a minority… and I am yet to meet anyone who regards Obama as anything but a snake oil salesman. Do you know why? Because we have a lot of non white elected officials here, and they do their damn jobs and beyond. Competent people.
What I did see however is a lot of people who can’t fucking believe this is happening. The Germans were a lot less enthusiastic bout Obama than many of you fine peeps across the pond might think… but you won’t see that in your news. Most of the reputable German media tore Obama a new asshole for refusing to meet with German journalists- it was so painfully obvious that this was a show off for the poor people at home than an actual, you know, message from Obama the messiah for the world, that it was really funny to watch.
Do you want to know what the majority of Europeans think about Obama? It’s simple. “Who the hell does this guy think he is”. Then again, he would not have had a career here to begin with.
You see, it takes a great deal of idiocy and naivity to believe that “look, a black guy” will work with the rest of the world. Most of the civilised countries on the planet, and even a lot of third world countries, which makes it even worse, already have people of a different race than the country’s majoritary population occupying positions of power, getting elected, and nobody expects the rest of the world to pat them on the head for being so fucking enlightened. Strange and unusual as it might seem, a lot of people on this planet already got down with the “it’s what is inside not what colour is the outside that matters” meme. An incompetent guy that looks Black as the president of the USA will at best ellicit sneering about the stupid Americans who thought they could pull a trick to make them appear cool, after which said guy would get a swift knock down from the experienced politicians of the world who can’t be fooled by gimmicks.
I’m pretty sure Putin is preparing to give Obama a beatdown that would make the one Kennedy received from Hrusciov look like a good time ( Bay of Pigs anyone?)
Yes, Thomas4Clinton is right- we have seen what personality cults look like and they never end up well.
If it could only be made to affect Obamazoids, I would LOVE to see Obama win. That would probably be the best punishment for all of those idiots, but sadly we can’t achieve that. So, for the sake of the sane Americans and the rest of the world, this guy has to be stopped.
The European press is no better than the US media on Obama. I met some English people this summer. They were genuinely shocked to find out Obama supported the death penalty. I had to explain what FISA was, but once they understood, again they were appalled. He’s portrayed as a “professor” and more importantly a “law professor” which even Ph.D.s for some reason are impressed by, even though it takes longer to get a Ph.D. than a law degree and law professors write very little for tenure compared to other professors. Obama was never on a tenure track so he published ZIP. There has been a long spell of anti-intellectualism in America and I can understand the professoriat wanting to restore some spirit of “it’s OK to be educated” in the US. But they won’t educate themselves about Obama. You say FISA, anti-gay, Bill Ayers, and they go lalalalalala I can’t hear you.
The European press is owned by the same people, chimera. But I ma yet to see anyone who was actually supporting him- well maybe the kids who were doing it because it’s the hip thing to do, but I am yet to see any adults to do it.
WaPo’s Millbank is doing a haka on PUMAs even as NYT reports we are doing just fine
http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/10/15/pumas-came-home-or-did-they/
Ah yes, as we who travel the world day in and day out and liethe on the sandy beaches of Bali have learned, Obama will save the world. It will be nice next year to travel to Paris again and not have to hold my head in shame because we’ve got an African American President. Yea, he’s planning to bomb a couple more countries but they must deserve it if he says it. Maybe I’ll tour trhe Meditarranean too since Obama is President. Monte Carlo will be more welcoming too.
soopermouse, I believe you as you live there. I was just on vacation, but the people I met at a retreat said back in July that the press reported only good things about Obama in England. I do know Americans here have cited BO’s 200,000 people reception in Germany as evidence of his European popularity, as if that is a reason to vote for him. I agree that most of the world has moved on from “look–here’s a black man in high political office,” or even something the US can’t get past, “look, there’s a woman in a high political office!” As a child I saw female leaders around the world who were leading their countries and the US acts as if it’s just something we aren’t ready for.
I remember David Brooks attacking Palin for “anti-intellectualism” recently. Does anyone remember him writing this about W?
Christopher Buckley left the National Review his father founded – because “Obama writes his own books” (a fact that has been conclusively proven untrue)
EOF said, …”because Obama writes his own books (a fact that has been conclusively proven untrue).”
In other words, Buckley likes his lies the old fashioned way, told in first person.
BB – outstanding post. I left early – went out in the dark and trimmed dead branches off trees – seemed fitting.
This morning I am greeted with this insightful post and some great comments – have not read them all but really getting to the answer of the Why of this horrid campaign season. The sexist misogyny is so pervasive and combined with the shallowness of some people – whether they be young or just hollow for whatever reason(s), is the best answer to my WHY. What brought this so glaringly to the top so to speak is McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin. A here to for absolutely decent, capable, intelligent female. Even the dimmest bulb in the pack should be able to see it’s not that Hillary was so polarizing, so awful – it’s any female. Hillary was/is the best and the brightest political figure today. She knows her stuff – but it’s so scary for the males and for the females who enable them. Misogyny is a three prong crutch for the enabled males. The females who don’t get it – who have never faced the truth about sexism, or use it to keep their “little man” happy – enablers all. They are the ones who go with the flow. Do not challenge the penist ones – it’s scary for them.
The media is one small step away from using the “polarizing” label for Sarah – hm, two women in politics seeking higher offices – both “polarizing”. What a coincidence.
That people like PM make such vapid statements and are not hooted off stage or called out for them is incredible. Gonna go read the rest of this thread – great comments!
The Europeans want us weak, period. Strength is credibility. Electing Obama would do nothing for our credibility abroad.
edge, He resents the fact that she didn’t go to an Ivy League school. It doesn’t matter that Bush isn’t really an intellectual, because he is part of that elitist community. Palin is a hick to Brooks.
Please! These wealthy liberals have always had the white guilt trip as part of their mind set and make up. Back in the late 60’s these were the same kind of individuals who would throw house parties to raise funds for the Black Panthers.
Barack is just their flavor of this decade….until he loses…
Lori, Your post at 11:56 pm gets to the heart of what I’ve been trying to explain for months. As I’ve mentioned, during the primary my co-worker kept saying that Hillary was “unelectable” and that’s why he was voting for Obama. As far as I’m concerned, he was really saying “I refuse to vote for a woman.” But in his mind, he thinks he’s hip and oh so enlightened and that he’s helping to “change” the world. It’s thoroughly depressing because he’s not changing anything. He’s actually undoing the advancements we’ve made by condoning the unethical and ugly tactics of the Obama campaign.
I’ll never forget seeing a middle-aged white man, a little runt of a q-tip, smugly putting out his Obama sign during the primary. The look on his face and the silly swagger as he carried his “No Girls Allowed” statement made me want to puke. In hindsight, I probably should have said something to him. But at the time it made me realize what we were going to be up against.
I disagree Mawm. A weak US destabilizes the whole world, and that is not something anyone would want. Why would anyone want a weak US? There is nothign to be gained form it but a lot to lose. Europe and the US are not enemies.
Europe doesn’t want us dead, but it wants to replace us as the world’s leader. We should never look to foreign countries to help us decide who will lead us. I lived in Europe for two years and they do indeed resent our dominance. They would love to have a US leader that would cave to their interests.
I did not support the Iraq war, but France was getting ready to normalize relations and sign huge oil contracts with Saddam and Saddam was planning to switch to the Euro. I think both of these facts contributed to Bush’s decision to invade. I am using this as an example, not to support Bush’s decision, but to show how France wasn’t really acting in the best interest of the world, but rather in their own interest. People who support Obama because he will restore our “credibility” in the eyes of Europe want the US to make concessions while ignoring the actions of countries like France that conflict with our interest. IMO Obama is way to cozy with the Europeans. Yes, they are our allies, but they are not the constiuents of the President of the United States.
There is an old joke among engineers that bad ones “Bash to fit and paint to cover.” That seems to be what author Mathiessen, “creative” Hollywood types like Madonna(???) and elitists of all walks of life are doing, bashing Obama to fit their own idealism and painting him “black” to cover up his mistakes.
But one bad review, one mistake in research and their credibility is gone. In this instance, Mathiessen regurgitating the Obama “facts” as put out by his campaign committee has seriously damaged his stature as an author and as an Elite because it makes him less informed than his readers; which is not a good perception for someone whose living depends on ordinary people buying his books.
And as for foreign countries, they never got our particular brand of democracy anyhow; simply put, most don’t understand how it works.
And Kenyans certainly don’t; most interviewed think it’s great that one of their citizens (yes, they think he’s a Kenyan by birth) is going to be president of the USA.
So, how can Mathiessen say that “Electing that guy would restore our credibility in a way no other act could do…” when most of the countries impressed with Obama have no understanding of our democracy and are frienemies at best?
Obama’s critics know that paint was flaking off and revealing the coverup before it was even dry; although Mathiessen and his fellow “elites” don’t seem to have examined the product they bought too closely.
Yes. Several posts have made very relevant comments. The elitists (and youth, and movie stars) find that supporting Obama is another way to 1) be rebellious; and 2) to feel superior to the ignorant, unwashed masses.
It has long bothered me, and I have posted previously, that my progressive friends are all for helping everyone AS LONG AS they do not have to give up any of their privileges, or advantages for their children.
Voting for Obama is so naughty – and so safe, since he is just a white guy passing as black. All you have to do is cast a vote and you can feel so self righteous!! No work there!
When you see Obama trying to mix with the common people, you can see how uncomfortable he is.
I think hatred against Palin is misogynist and cultural.
This attitude has actually bothered me since Junior High School when we began to be separated by our grades. I was at the top of my class from then through graduation from an Ivy League school and I never did fit in with them.
That said, some of my Obama supporting friends are, I think, merely naive.
BB, I think you hit the nail on the head. When I was deciding who to support last fall, I thought the reasons Mathiessen cites were the best reasons to support Obama. However, I did not find them sufficient reasons. The ability to actually govern my country came first, so I supported Hillary. I guess I’m not elite enough.
I think Matthiessen and most of his fellow members of the “creative class” are voting for Obama *because* he is black.
*****************************************************************
bb, you can’t SAY that! It’s r@cist!
A Liberal Elitist making the argument: Elect Obama Because He’s a Black Man
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/20/kerry-obama-can-bridge-d_n_92576.html
Early in the campaign I heard an interview with Art Spiegelman, the author of “Maus,” on NPR. Toward the end he yakked about how much he wanted Obama to win, and his reason. “Well, you know, he’s COOL. And I think it would be, um, cool to have a president who’s cool.” I’m paraphrasing but that was the essence of it. I was floored. A supposedly intelligent, informed member of the creative elite, talking like a twelve-year-old with a crush.
I think that people who fervently support Obama fall into two categories: those who support him because of their own vanity and those who are prone to cultish behavior. I agree that there are many Obama supporters who view themselves as superior to others because they (and, in their own little minds, only they) can support a black man but there are supporters who need to worship an idol, to get those “tingles” up and down their legs.
Obama is no doubt viewed as non-threatening and is obviously an elitist. Perhaps this is why he was so readily embraced by those at the top of the food chain since “post partisanship” (guaranteed not to change the order of things) is all the rage. Hillary made it clear that she was going to rock that boat for health care and energy/environmental policies. What those at the top view as trendsetting differs from era to era, as I remember when the liberal elite embraced radicals in the 60’s (as Angel has stated and as Tom Wolfe recorded in his book, “Radical Chic and Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers”), only to be appalled when they were rewarded with racism and anti-Semitism. Obama is viewed as the safe way to massage their egos and to maintain the established order.
The cultish supporters will attack anyone who they view as a threat to their adored one. I can’t think of one American cult figure, though, that is a woman, probably because male fanatics just can’t bring themselves to worship a woman (it isn’t manly or something). I’m sure that some of the fanatical male Obama supporters dislike and fear women but I don’t think that this is their driving force. Misogyny is a weapon rather than a reason. Misogyny is still accepted in our society and is the easiest way to attack a female opponent. The Obots don’t have to argue policy or defend Obama’s dismal record or lack of experience. They don’t have to have their dreams interrupted by actually having to think. If McCain had chosen a male running mate, I think that Obots would have attacked him on the basis of his age since ageism runs a close second as an acceptable form of prejudice.

Classism is on point. I’m just confused because when did elites beg the government to take all their money from them. Just graduated, so I do not make much money, but in a short time I will and frankly I do not want the government’s hand in my pocket.
I was reading the WS Journal article about Obama’s “tax cuts.” And how it will dramatically increase the marginal tax rates in this country. And if you raise those it mean less incentive to make more money= depressed tax base. Which means Obama’s tax plan may be all good for the first year but after that there will be less money floating around. That, coupled with high spending, means more debt.
One of those “Let Freedom Ring” ads gets to the core of it.
At the end:
“We might just be smarter than you think.”
This interview doesn’t say much for our intellectual “creative class.” I’d say Mathiessen’s capacity for deep thought, reflected in this interview, is about 2 to 3 inches.

Soopermouse: you are out of your mind. Having lived in London for over 10 years, I can tell you that the enthusiasm for Obama is palpable, and that’s among whites. He’s enormously popular. You may not like the reality but is that any reason to just spew nonsense hoping it isn’t true?

Again, I didn’t realize there was a rivalry, and no offense, but there are very few things that coud arguably considered good coming out of US assuming that role. Europe’s interests are its survival and thriving, and in that it has done a significantly better job than the US as far as the quality of liing for its citizens is concerned. Stop looking at things from an American “my dick is bigger than yours” perspective- not everybody is into idiotic teenage contests. Progress is a lot easier to attain by cooperation than by dominance games, and I would think any progressive would agree that true cooperation is a lot more imposrant than said stupid dominance games.

Was the US acting in the best interest of the world when it provided Saddam with the means and cover to kill the Kurds?
Saddam was a threat to nobody but his own people, and the US’ decision to start an unprovoked war has done significantly more damage to the world than anyting FRance could have done in that context. If Bush did start the war in Iraq because Saddam was planning to switch to the EUro, then he did act in America’s self interest. How is that better than France wanting to establish diplomatic relations? Let us be serious here, if it is OK for America to go to war and kill what is estimated to be about one million people for the sake of its own interests and paranoia, then it’s OK for everyone else to do the same. You can’t say you didn’t support the IRaq war then use its rhetoric against those who chose to not take part of it.
One of our OWN did a great Video that I think says it all..Please view and help raise this video up on youtube
Americans should be VERY disturbed about what has happened this election season.
Barrack Obama has advertisements up that say, “Come join the “movement”!” (Movement? I thought we were electing a president?)
We have a corrupt and biased news media who is furthering the Obama “movement” by hiding all the details of his corrupt and anti-American past.
We have teachers teaching their students to sing songs praising Obama, much like is done in church when people sing praising God.
We have a cult-like mindset across the United States. We have people who follow Obama much like the zealots followed Jim Jones, David Koresh, and Hitler.
We have a presidential candidate who says, “I am the one you have been waiting for” and who designs his OWN presidential seal and now a flag. We have a presidential candidate who doesn’t salute our flag and who goes overseas and talks trash about our country. Yet we have people right here in the United States who still want to vote for him.
I find all of this very disturbing. I have done my research and tried to find ONE extraordinary thing that Barrack Obama has done in his lifetime to deserve all this worship and devotion.
Did he ever climb a tree to save a kitten? No. Did he give away all his money to the poor? No. Did he ever travel to a third world country and take along a present or some food for the starving? No.
So now I am asking one of you Obama-bots who are so soaked in the Obama Kool-aid to tell me ONE thing extraordinary that Barrack Obama has done for his fellow man that has earned your devotion.
I am only asking for one.
Feel free to E-Mail me so we can discuss this further.

I’m African American, and I definitely see this too.
Barack Obama is considered the ultimate “token” to the elitists that support him. Their way of saying, “Look – we’re not racist! We’re supporting & voting for the Black man for President!”
Never mind the fact that Obama is dangerously inexperienced & crooked!
The elitist Democrats’ attitude about Obama just screams “Crendentials and character be damned! We’re voting for the Black guy!!”

Exactly!
Most elitists usually crap on both women and African Americans. But because Obama is considered one of “them,” they crapped on Hillary and are now crapping on Sarah Palin & women in general.
