    • Killing Herd Animals
One of the great crimes and tragedies of our world is how we treat the animals we eat (or whose milk or eggs or other products we eat and use.) Factory farming keeps them in tiny enclosures, feeds them monotonous foods, and then when they’re slaughtered it’s a terrible experience: they’re terrified and die in […]

UPDATE: Our very own DakiniKat on BBC radio, right now:

http://worldhaveyoursay.wordpress.com/2008/10/06/on-air-are-women-their-own-worst-enemies/

 Some news tidbits:

Palin criticizes Obama’s ties to Wright, Ayers:

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin expanded her attack on Democrat Barack Obama’s character Monday to include his relationship with an incendiary former pastor as well as his ties to 1960s-era radical Bill Ayers.

McCain, Obama go for jugular

The Obama campaign meanwhile, has opened a new website and is posting a 13-minute documentary to resurrect his involvement in the Keating Five savings-and-loan scandal two decades ago.

I’m so numb from everything – CAN WE HAVE HILLARY BACK?

118 Responses

  1. I want to understand several things that I can’t get a handle on:
    why corporate media seems to support Obama;
    why McCain is not using the obvious problems with Obama in his campaign;
    why Democrats do not understand that Obama is not a Democrat;
    oh, the list goes on…

  2. I am still upset that Hillary voted “yes” for the bailout. Why? I am sure that she knew better. To LOOK good, because eeryone was SAYING it was just the thing that was immediately needed and would save the frigging economy?
The government is the enemy right now, and any idiots who still believe that Obama as POTUS would turn that around are so far in denial they may never find their way back to reality.

  3. i’m going to be on the BBC shortly… (like any minute now) it’s broad cast live here and there’s a discusson there:

    http://worldhaveyoursay.wordpress.com/2008/10/06/on-air-are-women-their-own-worst-enemies/

    it’s about

  4. sorry, entered accidently, it’s about the Palin requote of the madeline comment

  5. the program is called World Have your Say … it’s also broadcast on NPR.

  6. dakinikat,
thats so cool, i used to listen to that show

  7. Is anyone attending the NYC Citizens for McCain even tonight? I’ve been too lazy these days to go below midtown so I have a feeling I won’t make it tonight but I might show up for a few drinks.

  8. She saw it on a Starbucks cup, and said it at a rally in California. Sarah Palin told a gathered crowd, ‘There’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.’ Now there are 100s of blog posts and news stories about it, and the issues it raises. This fits with discussions we’re been following in many different countries.

But do women have an obligation to support other women? Is their such thing as a sisterhood?

This is the topic and you can call in also …

  9. Fox News:

A middle school teacher in Missouri was suspended Monday for putting a video on YouTube of his students chanting lines from Barack Obama speeches and wearing military fatigues.

The video, called “Obama Youth — Junior Fraternity Regiment,” was posted by a YouTube user named “keepitwildtv” on Oct. 2. The school learned the video was on the Internet and took action against the teacher Monday morning.

  10. I am going to register. I hope they let me register Independent. I am so excited. Can’t wait to vote for mcCain/Palin in November.

  11. and obviously women are their own worst enemies, that much is clear!

  12. They’re interviewing a woman justice in pakistan right now, they just interviewed a conservative woman talk show host that I’m going to contradict …

  13. Carol — is that is the video that NQ had posted with the young AA boys in camo pants? That was disturbing & the teacher should have known better. Glad he got suspended – he should lose his job for exploiting minors like that.

  14. That’s great, dakinikat! I’ve got it on now!

  15. go dakinikat

    i can’t download the plug-ins necessary to listen 😦

  16. Do women have an obligation to support other women?

No, but imo they have the obligation not to attack and tear down other women. Obviously there is a significant number of women that do not agree with me and actually think that they have the obligation to attack and destroy women that they do not agree with it and are close to positions of power

thats why i respect Hillary and Sarah and their ability to disagree with each other without attacking each other personally. There is actually some respect between the two of them. I wish other women would follow their example

  17. oooh, i’m going to make this reaganik woman eat her words …

  18. Bill Clinton was also a gov of a very small state…

  19. DakiniKat – please help me understand what does McCain have to do with Keating 5 & the Savings and Loans scandal from the 1980s?

I just posted this info above. I’m like WTF does that have to do with McCain? From what I’ve read, this was all an Upper Reagan thing. Call me ig-nant.

  20. according to thepage:

A Mccain statement shrugs off the Obama team’s claim that the Democrat didn’t know of Ayers’ radical past when he attended an event in Ayers’ home in 1995.
“…Obama was promoting Ayers’ book in 1997, serving on boards with him until 2002, and trading emails and phone calls with him as recently as 2005.”
“If Obama really was unaware of Ayers’ radical past, learning the truth doesn’t seem to have had any effect on their friendship.”

  21. Um, Alaska is not a very small state, do these people have no grasp of geography?

It is small in population, but has a very big budget and big responsibilities.

  22. Yes.

  23. I agree with you, Jonas8. As feminists (male and female) we need to see that ad hominem attacks against women don’t go unchallenged. We can disagree on the issues; I don’t have to vote for a woman. But I am thinking of the Confluences posts on the 30% and wondering whether perhaps voting for women as women has become the only way to eventually see feminism grow, even if some of the women themselves are not feminists per se or with whose politics I do not entirely agree. Some issues for me are non-negotiable, but others are fungible if the candidate herself is good.

  24. Alaska is also in a billions+ surplus and has the ALASKAN GAS PIPELINE which equals major energy independence and part of a more eco-friendly plan.

  25. sm: I’m about ready to be brought into this BBC program … let me answer you in a bit

  26. exactly, not true on pay equity and not on violence issues or funding of birth control (ie pills, etc.)

  27. I believe that voting for women (not just those that you only agree with) opens the door for all women. The more people are used to seeing women in positions of power, the easier it will be for all women.

  28. 30% is the way to go.

I voted in the Aug 26 elections here in Tampa for judges. VOTED ALL WOMEN. So did Abuela PUMA.

Some categories were all female (which was FANTASTIC TO SEE) so then I decided to vote for who was more of the liberal in that case.

  29. i’m tired of this nitwit and her liberal “feminist” stereotype

  30. FLVoter – I agree, and the facts back both of us up.

    The 30% Solution just works.

  31. It has been said that it is natural for women to be competitive amongst themselves. IMO, that is true only in sexist societies, where women from a young age have observed and intuited that their only way (or easiest way or most secure way) to have power is to sexually hold a man.

Anyone who is still believing that puts a huge weight on the everyone trying to change the male-dominated world.

  32. Ok Dakini, please give us the juicy details from BBC!

  33. That conservative idiot needs to STFU. Oh yes, everyone is so equal now, no need for government activism. La la la la!

  34. state: I’m in the back half of the show, so I’ll be in any minute now.

  35. yeah, madamab: she’s a good example of some one being their worst enemy

  36. Ayers will be joined by Sen. Barack Obama, Senior Lecturer in the Law School….

One hundred years later, the system is “overcrowded, under-funded, over-centralized and racist,” Ayers said.

Michelle Obama, Associate Dean of Student Services and Director of the University Community Service Center, hopes bringing issues like this to campus will open a dialogue between members of the University community and the broader community.

    http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/971106/justice.shtml
    ……………………………………..

WOW…Michelle was aware of Ayers too. 😦

CAN WE HAVE HILLARY BACK NOW? Waaaa, the media has been hiding all of this, they had to have known, how is it possible that little bloggers are finding the information.

It’s a damned if you do/don’t scenario. My congress house rep voted against it twice. She’s got some cojones, I’ll give you that, but she’s a Pelosi-wannabe.

  38. i’m after BBC news 🙂

  39. Hillary and Bill sold us out, which is far worse than drinking the kool aid because they are SELLING IT.

They both knew how dangerous this man was, how democracy was thwarted under his thumb with the assistance of the MSM and the DNP, and they decided to go with the flow–the flow of MONEY that is.

Hillary should not have given up–especially since she promised us that she would not. She is a liar and a fraud; further proof of her misconduct is that this past wednesday she blamed the subprime mortgage fiasco on the ‘lack of republican oversight.” BIG FAT LIE since Hillary knows damn well that the fiasco was caused by liberal Democrats, the Black Caucus, and greed. The ONLY politicians to speak out against this billion dollar hemmorage was McCain and other Republicans, and they were promptly accused of holding a high tech lynching because Rains the head of Freddie/Fannie was black. HILLARY is the third largest recipient of money from Freddie and Fannie right behind NOBAMA….

Hillary and Bill and the Democrats are the problem. As a lifelong Democrat this has been a painful journey for me. I know that at this point MCcain and Palin will get my vote with GLEE!! Smart, funny, and honest….oh, and not a fucking terrorist who hates this country….

ONLY two people will vote BO, idiots and racists…please try hard not to fit into one of these two groups…

    MCCain/Palin 2008!

  40. I am in moderation…

It wasn’t me, it was Bill Ayers that said it. Really! 😦

  41. Small states: How about Delaware? I was driving through the NE looking forward to seeing all those colony states and I went through Delaware before I knew I was in it.

  43. I”m up …..

  44. Jangles, DE is Very Important. That’s were all our Banks & Credit Card Companies live.
    /snark

  45. HRC represents NY. NY has a huge dependency on Wall St. , the financial markets and employment in the financial sector. A big hit on the financial sector swamps the NY boat. Bloomberg has recently talked about the impact on state and national coffers of a financial melt down.

  46. dakinikat’s on!!!

  47. From Karl Rove’s Realclearpolitics article:
.. the principal arguments for Sarah Palin. She is the governor of a state with an $11 billion operating budget, a $1.7 billion capital budget and nearly 29,000 employees; she’s got more executive experience than any candidate for president or vice president this year.
In Alaska she took on the state political establishment, the incumbent Republican governor and the oil companies. She’s a rising star who accentuates John McCain’s maverick strengths and a “hockey mom” who has developed a powerful tie to ordinary voters.

  48. F__K!!!

I can’t hear the interview. I went on BBC and it says I need realplayer.

By the time I load it the interview will be over.

  49. The truth is, and I know someone will get mad at me for saying this, women are better than men in just about every category. They are generally smarter, more compassionate, less shallow, and have higher tolerance for pain. Men have only kept the upper hand these past millenia for two simple reasons. #1 is their increased physical strength. This has allowed us to bully and intimidate you for years. However, this is becoming less effective in modern times. The other reason which is perhaps the most powerful is

    Divide and Conquer

Men usually never need to attack women directly, because there is usually another group of women that will do it for them. The abortion issue is one of the biggest examples, but the number is endless when you start looking for them.

  50. CATARINA: From the other thread–where does one obtain a life size cut out of McCain. My friend Meghan must have one.

  51. OK, I found a Windows media player button, let’s see…

  52. Just got up my nerve and checked the NYTimes Caucus blog for the first time in weeks. Three of the four current topics center on…Sarah Palin. Isn’t she the ignorant, inarticulate broad who was going to sink into obscurity after deep-sixing McCain’s campaign during the V-P debate? Hah! Go get ’em, Sarah! You, too, D’kat.

  53. YAY!!! I got in!!! Listening – is that DakiniKat?????

  54. I think this is Dakini now?

  55. Shoot – my hubby called! Is kat still on?

  56. OK – is DakiniKat on the Phone?

  57. Micki
I bought Johnny at the local mall at a music/dvd store-wish I knew the name of the store.
Halloween gag sites might sell them.
    It’s very realistic 😉

  58. which one is kat?

  59. oh, okay, never mind!

  60. The Keating 5 was made up of 4 Democrats and 1 Repbulican, McCain. McCain attended meetings with Keating, along with the others, concerning the Savings and Loan industry. That was the big S and L bailout. In the aftermath of that debacle, a senate ethics investigation recommended that McCain alone be exonerated. McCain apologized for even coming close to that mess. I think that McCain’s passion for getting money out of politics and his work with Russ Feingold to do just grew from his experience. The Dems were DeConcini, I believe of Az, and a famous liberal Dem from CA —not sure about the other 2–the CA Sen. ran for Pres and his name escapes me. I imagine Wikipedia has the info.

  61. thats bs about palin wanting to overturn roe get her dakini

  62. Ok – there are OFembots talking.

    Not happy.

  63. Mawm, you are so awesome!

  64. am I supposed to support HER bc shes female?
want to poke her eyes out

  65. Woman from S. F. is a liar. How frustrating.

  66. DAKINIKAT: Kick their azzez!!

  67. Mccain only attended 2 of the meetings. He was added as part of it to make it bi-partisan.

  68. what a f-ing bitch, using the opp to bash palin

  69. jangles: So then is the Keating a non-issue if McCain’s publicly apologized & stepped away from that?

  70. caterina, I saw cutouts of McC, BO, and HRC at a local party store. (Of course, the one of Hillary had a very unflattering photo of her face.)

  71. Mawm: YOU ROCK!

  72. i can’t seem to get two many words in …

  73. Just use the Obama Method, d’kat – butt in!

  74. Roz rocked that response.

  75. I would like to see Sarah add ACORN and the Fannie Freddie mess to her target list. It should be pretty simple to link Ayers palling around with ACORN contributions, radical activities that have undermined our economic security and urban school failure. Go SARAH

  76. Keating Economics: John McCain and a Financial Crisis

    …………………………………………….

Here is the Obama Camp attack ad on McCain…they try to make him look like a criminal.

  77. here she goes again! this obamabot is out of control.

  78. DakiniKat – GET IN because OFembot is taking over the conversation.

  79. Just scream or something, d’kat – the world needs to know what utter lying crap the Bots are spewing.

  80. okay, I emailed a comment. Don’t know if they’ll read it.

  81. If I wasn’t worried to death about the future of this country & the future of the party that I loved but that no longer exists, I would find the fact that we are witnessing a real, life Ministry of Truth in action quite interesting. Don’t like the old story? Why just write a new one. Obama now claims he didn’t know about Ayers’ past when he gave him that little “get to know you” fete in his home. He didn’t know about Rezko either, or what was going on at his Church. Most sad of all is not the fact that there are morons who buy these lies but that they don’t understand that even if true, anyone who is so oblivious to his surroundings is not fit to be president.

  82. J-Z concert cancelled…..

They monitor these blogs and know we knew about the anti women thing in all his songs.

  83. Senator John Glenn was one of the Keating 5.

  84. Wiki says John Glenn was another one of the Keating 5. Like McCain, he was exonerated, although criticized for poor judgement. The other 3 dems were found to have behaved improperly, and one of them recieved a formal reprimand. Of the 5, only Glenn & McCain ran for re-election and both won.
Some observers say that the real reason McCain was investigated was so that it wasn’t just Dems on the hook, and teh reason Glenn was included was because Republicans were angry that McCain was included.

  85. DAKINI is on!!

  86. Well, Johnboy, guess we know who you’re voting for.

  90. what a bunch of dumbass bitches. “pulled back” by nominating a female vp?

  91. They learned at the feet of The Master, sm.

  92. Yes, qualified people should be running, which is why Obama should not be!

  93. I heard a report on Fox from Major Garrett who is covering the McCain campaign for Fox. He is usually pretty on board with the Obama campaign but this am he was wondering if the Obama campaign could make any hay out of the Keating mess. I understand Obama has a 13 min. tape on it on the internet. Has anybody viewed it? I am sure it is orchestrated to smear McCain but that happened 25 years ago ( I think it has been that long) so I think it is not a very good comparison with Obama’s track record. If you look at Hannity’s 1 hr. piece on Obama’s associations with several radical characters, the McCain thing just doesn’t play. But only time will tell.

I think McCain and Sarah really have to get on the ACORN association because Ayers leads right into ACORN and ACORN is getting some bad press right now on voter fraud and FF mess. Obama needs to take a big hit on that. Plus it leads right into the economic mess which is at the top of everyone’s brain in this moment in time. The more they can paint Obama into that mess the better.

  94. SOD, GMTA

  95. QUALFIED PEOPLE??? Obot should be told Obama is UNQUALIFIED!!!

    Dakini, get her!

  96. OMG, those IDIOTS are saying that they would have voted for a “more qualified” Republican woman!

AS IF. They would be doing and saying the exact same things.

Do they have any idea how unqualified Obama is?

    These women make me sick.

    those in-the tank fuckers.

dakini if i was in New Orleans I’d buy you a stiff drink for having to go through that

  103. McCain nominated a woman as VP. That’s the first time in 24 years. What about “that’s a feminist action” do these brainless Obamabots not understand?

  104. LONDON, England (CNN) — Taliban leaders are holding Saudi-brokered talks with the Afghan government to end the country’s bloody conflict — and are severing their ties with al Qaeda, sources close to the historic discussions have told CNN.

King Abdullah of Saudia Arabia hosted meetings between the Afghan government and the Taliban, a source says.

The militia, which has been intensifying its attacks on the U.S.-led coalition that toppled it from power in 2001 for harboring Osama bin Laden’s terrorist network, has been involved four days of talks hosted by Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah, says the source.

The talks — the first of their kind aimed at resolving the lengthy conflict in Afghanistan — mark a significant move by the Saudi leadership to take a direct role in Afghanistan, hosting delegates who have until recently been their enemies.

They also mark a sidestepping of key “war on terror” ally Pakistan, frequently accused of not doing enough to tackle militants sheltering on its territory, which has previously been a conduit for talks between the Saudis and Afghanistan.

According to the source, fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar — high on the U.S. military’s most-wanted list — was not present, but his representatives were keen to stress the reclusive cleric is no longer allied to al Qaeda.

Details of the Taliban leader’s split with al Qaeda have never been made public before, but the new claims confirm what another source with an intimate knowledge of the militia and Mullah Omar has told CNN in the past.

  105. McCain right on amount of Obama’s pork requests

“He has asked for $932-million of earmark pork-barrel spending, nearly a million dollars for every day that he’s been in the United States Senate.”
    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/743/
    …………………………
(Checked by Political Fact.com …) Obama had about one million in pork for every day he has ‘sorta’ been in the senate. REFORM???????? CHANGE???????????

Will that sort of PORK help our econmy? In this economic crisis I say NO!

  106. Just came up with a descriptor for the deadly Bot contagion: Obotulism.

  107. It’s spread by canned ‘news’ and leads to paralysis of critical thinking faculties.

  112. Didn’t some of bos pork go directly to the hospital where his wife worked??

KAT5- LOL that is great !!!

  113. ALL

I hear that Obots are going on blogs etc. as Republicans criticizing Palin, trying to show a house divided.

  114. Someone brought up the nurses ad at the blog yesterday and left the online address for them, I just visited and found that national headquarters is in Chicago. Is it any wonder that they have come out with such a sick line against McCain.

  115. thank you, catarina, for your comment…

anybody else find it curious that the global deleveraging is occurring shortly before the US elections… there is a great deal of money out there and the unravelling could be supported by money plays…

my concern is related to the amount of outside financing of bo’s campaign… monies that seem untraceable but definitely foreign to these shores…

could it be that foreign entities are propping up bo… along with the DNC and MSM?

  116. We’re not the r@cists, the lenders are.

From last October, Study Finds Disparities in Mortgages by Race

Home buyers in predominantly black and Hispanic neighborhoods in New York City were more likely to get their mortgages last year from a subprime lender than home buyers in white neighborhoods with similar income levels, according to a new analysis of home loan data by researchers at New York University.

The analysis showed that even when median income levels were comparable, home buyers in minority neighborhoods were more likely to get a loan from a subprime lender.

They say minority communities whose financing needs were starved decades ago because of redlining — banks’ refusal to offer loans or other services in minority areas — are now singled out for high-cost, high-risk mortgages in a kind of reverse redlining.

Subprime loans are typically made to borrowers with credit histories that the mortgage industry considers less than prime. They can carry higher interest rates than traditional loans or adjustable rates that can make the mortgage difficult to repay once the interest rate resets. They can also carry higher fees and prepayment penalties and thus are at a high risk for foreclosure.

  117. Mawm, I can attest you know a guy bully when you see them, and will help defend us women folk from them. (Recall the visitor who pushed me aside during the PUMA discussion, even after my best assestive statement. Recall he was perhaps a much taller, larger than myself, and you.) For this, I am eternally grateful.
