John McCain Suppressing Free Speech in Missouri!

Josef Stalin, Obamas Role Model

Josef Stalin, Obama's Role Model

Those Republican ratfuckers. They’re actually using prosecutors and sheriffs in Missouri to “truth squad” any so-called “lying” political advertisements that Barack Obama puts out in that state. Can you believe it? The government clamps down on political advertisements, which are free speech protected by…the government?! What is wrong with these people?

Oh, wait. (adjusts reading glasses) My bad. It’s the Obama for America Party that believes in suppressing free speech.

Now, I sympathize with the Obama campaign’s frustrations. It’s infuriating to be lied about constantly and to not be able to do anything to fight back. I mean, with the backing of the entire Democratic leadership, currently “in power” in Congress; the continual fawning of the corporate media and the Obamasphere; the cooperation of Moveon.org, which gives Obama millions of volunteers to go spread The Word; and the hundreds of millions of dollars to blanket the 57 states with advertising, well…it must be hard to be so powerless!

Here’s an idea, Obama: Suck. It. Up. Or, as Missouri Governor Matt Blunt said,

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family.Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts – not a free society.”

I don’t recall Bill Clinton using his power as President to mobilize sheriffs and prosecutors to crack down on all the pundits and authors and politicians that were constantly lying about him. Do you? Yet Obama is not even the President yet, and he is already abusing his power as the Democratic nominee, and a most frightening and anti-American way.

I have believed for a long time that Obama has Stalinist tendencies, but I have not stated so in writing because I have thought there was not enough evidence to support my gut instinct. But now, the Senator from Illinois is making it clear: Any kind of dissent is unbearable to him.

It is my fervent conviction that Barack Obama must not be allowed to become President of the United States, or he will use the tools Dubya has created (the wiretapping, the cameras, the “free speech zones,” the Patriot Act) to force America to take the final steps into becoming a fascist state.

Update from angienc in comments:

The prosecutors in MO (who are state employees) may be prohibited from obeying Obama’s orders under MO state law. They should be investigated by the bar and sanctioned. They should also be removed from their jobs because as attorneys they should know that what they are doing is unethical and an abuse of their position.

If you would like to join Angie in registering a complaint about these prosecutors, here is the contact info for the MO bar:

  1. There is one additional tool which Obama would have at his fingertips:

Bush’s JOHN WARNER ACT, which gives the President the right at his discretion to call out military rule/law if he deterimnes there is and internal or external emergency which warrants it.

  2. looking – Is that the one that violates posse comitatus?

  3. And if elected, I wonder if BO will also do away with term limits? Then he really can be the emporer.

  4. We all know this man has no regard for any rule that does not benefit him. From removing opponents from the ballot when he ran for state Senate, to removing himself from the ballot in Michigan when he knew he would lose the state…nothing is beyond his capacity.

I do not believe he has any boundaries at all.

  5. Big Pimpin’ Democrat is concerned that Bristol Palin may get married before November 4th.

    Honest to Koresh!

  6. Imagine if McCain even suggested that the police do something about Obama’s lies!

    The media would meltdown

  7. Madamab, brava! As always right on the mark. Oh, can we still say that? See, once this crap starts, it’s not just what you say, people become chary when even thinking about *what to say.*

I guess we could start talking in code, such as if you agree with your statements, we could say, “Up is down, right is left, the sky is green and the grass is blue.” Oh hell, too much trouble, great job as usual.

  8. Can you hear the silence from the hypocrites that whined endlessly about Bush curtailing free speech but find no problem when it’s done by the Democratic candidate? Weren’t all us “Progressives” against Free Speech Zones until it was done at the Democratic Convention?

Have we no sense of decency? What is wrong is wrong because it’s wrong not because we don’t like the people that are doing it. This crap just drives me nuts. How can honest, decent Americans believe that what is going on is right?

Are the Obamacrats, so brain-washed that they don’t see? Or is it that they won’t see? Have they morphed, completely into the people they excoriated just a short election cycle ago for voting for party before country?

  9. Zombies for Chaaaaaaaange!!!!!

  10. stophate – What do you think about how Barack Obama is trying to suppress free speech?

    [cricket cricket cricket]

From the sudden appearance of trolls so quickly in this thread, I’m assuming that they know how bad this is for Obama.

  11. McCain betrayed his family and posted it on your page?

    That’s odd

  12. This is totally sick and I am totally disgusted.

  13. Oh, dear, now even the Obama trolls use old right-wing smears. We heard this crap for years about Bill Clinton. We heard it against Ted Kennedy.

Heck, Michelle even used it against Hillary.

If we start excluding politicians who cheat on spouses, well…..that would be one way to clear out Washington.

  14. Somebody should tell our visitor we’re into hate.

We hate injustice, rac*sm, sex*sm, and election fraud.

  15. I worked for my state’s supreme court for a while — during campaign season we were not allowed to volunteer for campaigns, put bumper stickers on our cars, etc. because, as an employee of the state, people might think our public endorsement of a candidate might be considered the “state’s endorsement” of that candidate. I cannot believe that the prosecutors in MO (who are state employees) are allowed to do this under MO state law. On Monday, I am writing a complaint to the MO state bar to register a complaint about these 2 and I hope others will join me. They should be investigated by the bar & sanctioned. They should also be removed from their jobs because as attorneys they should no that what they are doing is unethical and an abuse of their position. Here is the contact info for the MO bar:

  16. myiq – LOL!

Stophate can post on topic, or he/she will be edited and/or deleted.

  17. myiq2xu: and fascism.

  18. angie – May I add that information to the post? I think it’s very, very important.

  19. stophate — your name is an oxymoron. I suggest something that better reflects who you are: like “gullible lemmling” or “moronic asshat”

  20. Angie:

I believe the phrase is “avoid even the appearance of impropriety”

  21. madamab — of course you may — but “fix it up” if you want to make it read better.

  22. Thanks, angie!

  23. When he suggested few month back the formation of an armed militia, not a lot of people were alarmed by it. Of course the MSM didn’t even noticed. Even the papers like NYT where this kind of story would be it’s thing just didin’t hear about it. Now this. So if he wins and turn this country into a third world country dictatorship people have no right to act surprised. He didn’t hide his ugly truth from any.

  24. Don’t be too hard on our visitor. He/she is probably just earning minimum wage blogging for Teh Precious.

I hope he/she doesn’t really believe there is a high-paying govt job in his/her future if Uh-bama wins.

  25. Great post Madamab!

The “truth” Squad first hit was James Clyburn in SC. That’s when the whole “truth squad” thing started.

If anything, they are a propaganda squad – and now using state prosecutors and sheriffs is beyond propaganda, it’s totalitarian.

  26. I heard about this on Friday & some how I could not allow myself to believe it.
As with EVERYTHING else about this man…This too turned out to be TRUE!!!
My husband & my daughter ( Hillary turned Obama supporter (s?) ), are constantly “ribbing me” about being a racist, because I’m not supporting the ONE. Also I’ve turned into a republican. Well, @ 1st I was a bit weaker in my defense; trying to be the forever “peace making” female that I am.
**Not anymore. The gloves are OFF & if this man gets in it’s on them & people like them that would not allow THEMSELVES to see the other side of OBAMA!
I often said about any “SD’s” that let this man through, “THIS IS YOUR 2008 Iraq war vote”. It will forever be a defining question in years to come…..!
I sleep @ night knowing I’m doing all I can do; the rest is in “hands other than mine”.
I know there is a level they know I’m right. With in the past 1-11/2 years I left 2 jobs on a “bad gut feeling” that things I was seeing wasn’t right. “Karma came “back around to both” & both within just a “few months” after I left.

  27. Having read that, it is comforting to know that the Justice Dept. will not have prosecutors manning the polls….

Posted at clintondems.com is the following concerning FOX, as I understand it, inviting viewers, etc. to contact them about the issue of voter fraud.

It’s not that any of us are Republicans (to be candid, I have no political home). Rather, it’s just that the fundamentals which REAL Democrats share with Republicans are inimical to the “leftist” agenda, which is set to administer the coup de gra to the “living” document. That is, the linguistic terms that give expression to the ideas upon which the constitution supervenes are about to be disemboweled of their semantic content leaving a rag of linguistic lacuna where anything can take up residence (Fascism). When McCain invoked that “we hold these truths to be self-evident” he was articulating what exactly is at stake(imho).

Anyway, forgive my rambling. Those are just my thoughts when I read the post.

  28. stophate: I suppose that information came directly from McCain’s family huh? They must have been paid to all go to the Convention and stand proudly by his side. You, however, obviously know more about his family than they do. Aren’t you going to bring up Todd Palin’s 20 yr. old DWI? That is of critical importance to our country too. I also noticed you said nothing about Obama-Mussolini.

    Done with that.

Thank you for posting this madamab. I was really disturbed when I read about this last night (as you could tell from my repeated WTF?! posts). I don’t understand how he can use PUBLIC OFFICIALS to act as enforcers for his campaign. They are being paid for their time by taxpayers. Isn’t this illegal? And who determines what is a “lie?” Obama? What a joke. ANY criticism, no matter how thoroughly documented, is dismissed as a lie. I can still hear him saying, “That’ s not true,” and interrupting Hillary in debates, every time she brought up a distasteful FACT about his record or associations. He did the same thing in the debate with McCain.

Meanwhile, he is running slanderous Spanish language ads against McCain, linking him to something Limbaugh said totally out of context to frighten Latinos. Limbaugh has a history of slamming McCain–suddenly they are speaking the same words? He’s a Class A hypocrite, and this is another example of how dangerous he would be in power.

  29. correction: I misread the poster’s name so my first comment should be directed to madamab!!

  30. Speaking of zombies, did you know that recent polls show that the undead are considered the #2 menace?

  31. Not totally unrelated is a Newsweek article that adds fuel to the fire on how the AA community might react to an Obama loss: http://www.newsweek.com/id/161214. The writer quotes the reputable Snoop Dog and even gets in a jab at Palin.

Newsweek is garbage. What is the writer, and many others like Donna B, suggesting–that we give him the presidency under threat of violence? That’s exactly what they are suggesting. It’s called extortion.

  32. Obama has a similar “truth squad” in PA. Here are the members:

    Truth Squad

    Governor Edward Rendell
    Senator Bob Casey
    Mayor Michael Nutter, Philadelphia
    Congressman Robert Brady
    Congressman Chaka Fattah
    Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz
    Congressman Patrick Murphy
    Commissioner Michael Washo, Lackawanna County
    Commissioner Corey O’Brien, Lackawanna County
    Senator Robert Mellow
    Mayor John Brenner, York
    Mayor Rick Gray, Lancaster
    Mayor Tom McMahon, Reading
    Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Pittsburgh
    Mayor John Fetterman, Braddock
    Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato
    Senator Sean Logan
    Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham
    Auditor General Jack Wagner
Kathleen McGinty, Former Secretary of Department of
    Environmental Protection
Eileen Connelly, Executive Director, SEIU Pennsylvania State Council
    Bill George, President, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO
    Commissioner Joseph Hoeffel, Montgomery County
    State Representative Joshua Shapiro
    Congressman John Murtha
    Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham

  33. Wow, Samanthasmom! Does he really call these government officials a “truth squad”? Is there some link for that information?

  34. It is very disturbing to witness this.

Remember when folks rightly were disturbed by Florida Sec of State Katherine Harris being in charge of counting the votes while running Bush’s campaign in Florida back in 2000?

Same sort of stank. Office holders should not do this sort of thing. Period.

  35. This story needs more attention:

“Barack Obama played the “me too” game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.

Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son’s name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.

  36. I cannot believe that the prosecutors in MO (who are state employees) are allowed to do this under MO state law.

    That’s what I don’t understand.

  37. myiq – That is simply horrible. And to add insult to injury, he doesn’t even know the soldier’s name.

  38. “Pravda” means truth

  39. Email the Truth sqad stuff to Greta or/and Hannity. I did. If they get enough emails and can verify the story they will talk about it.

  40. This is the absolute most egregious abuse of this election , and on CNN they are debating whether David Letterman was upset because McCain cancelled .
Not only do we need to make absolutely certain every local media outlet knows about this , we need to make certin the MSM is FORCED to discuss it , no matter how they spin it .I dont want my children and grandchildren living in growing up in a police state . This would be the erosion and ruin of this country .
This is truly the most frightening thing yet to come out of this campaign only compounded by the lack of coverage by the MSM.

  41. The MSM is not going to give any attention to negative stories about Teh Precious

Not until after the election anyway.

  42. I posted it on GRETA WIRE as soon as I read it , and i am happy to know so many others did as well Thank the GODDESS for GRETA and FOX .. and I used to despise them.

  43. I guess the “Show me state” is not so much. Shouldn’t it be, “Show me if you love me state.”

  44. Prolix – It should be the “Be nice to Barack or you’ll get shown the door” state!

  45. If they give any attention to negative stories about Uh-bama, they will run them at the end of the show or bury them in the middle of the newspapers.

That way they can claim they covered them but still keep the stories on the down-low

  46. The story is at MSNBC and the list is at PolitickerPA.

  47. Ah-ha! Thanks, Samanthasmom.

The PA list seems to be devoid of sheriffs and prosecutors, and frankly, I don’t see anything wrong with Democrats stumping for the Democratic candidate.

Obama’s real step into the dark side seems to be that he is involving law enforcement officers in his campaign, and directing them to suppress free speech.

  48. myiq: I’m sure the family would rather have somebody wear that bracelet who could remember their son.

  49. SOD

i posted the link to the previous thread early in the morning

busy. they r registering for the the MO or PA Truth Squad

or working with Snoop Dog and ACORN …

  50. A DA is on the list.

  51. Truth squads have been around for decades in political campaigns. What is new here is that elected officials in Missouri are threatening to take enforcement action, i.e. official government action — to my knowledge, the last time anything like that happened were the Sedition Acts in 1798 and they were declared unconsititional.

  52. jjm:

I’m sure the family would prefer to stay out of the election and grieve in private

  53. It is my fervent conviction that Barack Obama must not be allowed to become President of the United States, or he will use the tools Dubya has created (the wiretapping, the cameras, the “free speech zones,” the Patriot Act) to force America to take the final steps into becoming a fascist state.

For me, those images of protester cages for the DNC in Denver were all you needed to know. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

If BO is our Hopey-Changey Messiah, why did he not lift his blessed hand and proclaim that the free speech zone be abolished?

  54. Madamab

Yes. I have a copy and have read through it several times since it was passed. Its chilling because it leaves too much power in the Presidents hands.

  55. What is new here is that elected officials in Missouri are threatening to take enforcement action, i.e. official government action

That’s it, Prolix. That’s the scary part. This is not the same thing that politicians have always done (i.e. have a team of supporters in a state ready to refute any attacks or lies). The refuting part has ALWAYS been done. Using the power of office to hint at legal action is new, and fucking scary.

  56. Prolix – that’s what I’m saying. Just stumping is one thing, but using government officials to punish people whose only crime is speech – that is simply illegal.

  57. madamab, on September 28th, 2008 at 11:41 am Said:

So anyone that puts out an ad that has some truthiness to Obama will result in defamation of character lawsuits? Witch trials? Gitmo?

They haven’t really defined what will happen by using prosecutors & sheriffs.

  58. Prolix, perhaps Missouri will become the “Show Me Your Papers” state?

  59. sm77 – Indeed. The vagueness scares me quite a bit. It’s classic Obama thuggery and intimidation.

  60. MadamaB: Where is the AFL-CIO on this???

THIS is the kind of stuff they should be fighting against!!!

  61. Well, this is shocking news:

On Face the Nation this morning, Sen. Barack Obama said John McCain deserves no credit for the bailout proposal.

    Guess who?:

  62. MyIQ mentioned the story about Obama’s bracelet, listen to the father of that soldier. It really looks like the even the mother asked Obama to no longer wear the son’s bracelet but hey, Obama does whatever he feels like. Come on, he is The One.

    Here is the audio clip

(you can forward and listen between 10:00 and 14:00)

  63. What is new here is that elected officials in Missouri are threatening to take enforcement action, i.e. official government action

wmcb: Hillary had a “Rapid Responders” group that served the purpose of countering any false attacks, but the use of public officials, on taxpayer time?, is sinister. They won’t be able to take official government action without the support of the Governor will they?

  64. SORRY AFLU – not AFL-CIO.

  65. On Face the Nation this morning, Sen. Barack Obama said John McCain deserves no credit for the bailout proposal.

Let me guess who he thinks should get the credit. ALL the credit. Mr. “My Banking Committee.”

  66. So, who is BO giving credit for the bailout bill? Himself? McCain going to DC, did bring this debacle to the forefront, especially with ACORN.

  67. DAmmit! ACLU!!!

Jeez, more coffee & whack in the head, please!

  68. Heh, you had me there for a minute, madamab. Yeah, the ratfuckers are downright neo-CREEPy.

  69. sm77 – You mean the ACLU? It doesn’t appear they are too thrilled about it.

  70. The bailout is still unpopular with real people

  71. Quick, someone “Truth Squad” Obama for lying his ass off on “Face the Nation”!

  72. MABlue @ 11:51: The audio clip link doesn’t work. I’d love to hear it.

  73. What is the latest on the bail out agreement? Do we know any details yet (eg: re: ACORN)? Nancy at NOQuarter did a very comprehensive piece on ACORN this morning. “Rent a mob.” They pay protestors $8/hr. to extort contributions from banks, and there is no separation between ACORN’s community housing program and their voter registration activities, so government money intended for housing support can be used to register voters for preferred candidates.

This is just bizarre. Obama is surrounded by massive documented corruption and the media stonewall is increasingly dangerous.

I bumped into a PUMA in a nearby town yesterday. I attended a Dean fundraising event with her before the Convention to protest and wave Hillary signs. She is 78 yrs. old, and has been politically active all her life. She’s really frightened and is going to leave the country if he’s elected. Meanwhile, at the “Apple Fest” where I saw her, a group was handing out Obama/Biden stickers, and all the happy, oblivious fest-goers were sporting stickers. The dissonance is extreme.

  74. MadamaB: It only took me three times to get it right – but YES, A.C.L.U.

Going to read link, thank you!

  75. madamab@11:58 – Um, I’m sure the DNC’s Rapid Response Team is right on it! Oh wait…sigh.

  76. I have to say, I find this development with official members of law enforcement openly threatening to file suit against what they deem to be “lies” to be breathtaking in its deliberate attempt to suppress speech.

Who can pretend that what a prosecutor chooses to call a “lie” is not subject to their own interpretation? Who can pretend that those judgments can’t and won’t be subject to their political biases? Who can pretend that prosecutors who openly join such a political committee won’t be the worst possible potential cases of such bias?

I really do wonder whether there is any precedent for governmental officials directly involved in law enforcement to issue such threats. I can only say that I can’t recollect ANY such case. I should think that if a Republican had done such a thing — and, in times past, I would suspect only a Republican might be inclined to do so — then we certainly would have heard about it a million times already from the Shrillosphere and other Democrats as an example of how fascist the Republicans are. And yet I can’t think of any such blatant examples.

If someone else can, I’d certainly like to know about it.

  77. Madamab:

Although certain sections were repealed the Executive Branch did not feel bound by that change – and future executive brach reps. may not feel bound by this either…

“As of 2008, these changes were repealed, changing the text of the law back to the original 1807 wording, under Public Law 110-181 (H.R. 4986, Section 1068,) however in signing H.R. 4986 into law President Bush attached a signing statement which indicated that the Executive Branch did not feel bound by the changes enacted by the repeal.

President Bush Signs H.R. 4986, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 into Law

Today, I have signed into law H.R. 4986, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008. The Act authorizes funding for the defense of the United States and its interests abroad, for military construction, and for national security-related energy programs.

Provisions of the Act, including sections 841, 846, 1079, and 1222, purport to impose requirements that could inhibit the President’s ability to carry out his constitutional obligations to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, to protect national security, to supervise the executive branch, and to execute his authority as Commander in Chief. The executive branch shall construe such provisions in a manner consistent with the constitutional authority of the President.

    January 28, 2008.”

  78. myiq – The Patriot Room, my favorite rightwing blog, is on the Obama/bracelet story.

  79. The Obama campaign flew in hundreds of attorneys for the TX primary. There were several of them in my city who went to polling locations to harass and intimidate the election workers and voters. I am quite sure that the campaign will do that in the swing states in the GE.

IMPORTANT–these Obots will tell you they are attorneys–what they will NOT tell you is that they are not licensed to practice law in your state. If any of you are harassed by these attorneys, GET THEIR NAMES AND THEN ASK THEM IN WHAT STATE OR STATES THEY ARE LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW. Then complain to that state’s Bar Association.

  80. Cal,

<a href=”http://clipcast.wpr.org:8080/ramgen/wpr/wau/rt51080329_iraqwar5years.mp3″Does the clip work now?

(Again, for those without patience, the key part is between 10:00 and 14:00)

The interview was done months ago and apparently Obama even stopped playing political football with the dead soldier.

  81. Quick, someone “Truth Squad” Obama for lying his ass off on “Face the Nation”!

At a coffee shop yesterday two young women were talking about the debate.

1: Did you see the debate last night?
    2: Yea.
1: McCain is such a douche bag–he was lying his a*s off.
    2: Yea–did you see that?

I interruped: the lying goes both ways. Then I told them about how both parties were up to their necks in Wall St/F&F money. They just blinked at me, unknowing.

1: I’m just voting for the lesser of two evils.

Many of his “supporters” don’t even like him. He’s got a “D” after his name–in theory anyway.

  82. OT sorry everyone

I was reading through last nights posts and saw your migraine comment.
After being derailed by nasty migraines for a very long time, I have been saved by a med called ‘Axert’.
It was prescribed by a fabulous and caring neurologist who is a migraine sufferer herself. Truly a miracle and allows one to function. She is north of Boston.
If you’d like to email me any time for more info I’m catrina821
    and thats at aol
Hope you’re feeling better-this is migraine weather and it really sucks.

  83. thanks, looking!

frankly0 – The shrillosphere did speak out against all the Bush attempts at suppressing freedom of speech. It’s the Obama ones they are silent about.

  84. Madamab! LOL!

I use your same tactic to get the Obama Hopium tokers to actually hear the facts!

I pretend it’s McCain or Hillary who did the outrageous thing and only after they denounce it do I say actually it’s OBAMA doing it!

  85. Axert is a great migraine med. It works for me!

  86. Zee – Tee hee!

It’s just so hard to break through the hyper-partisan atmosphere in our political debates. I’m trying anything I can to help with those efforts.

  87. sm77 said: DAmmit! ACLU!!!

Heck, sm, what’s one little letter of the alphabet between friends?

  88. Hmmm, so is ACORN in the latest bailout plan?
and does the truth squad go both ways? If an Obama ad lies about McCain do they get bonked?

  89. Joanelle – John McCain is an adult and doesn’t need law enforcement to make his points.

This type of fascist crap really makes Obama look weak.

Weakness and “me-too” tactics do not win elections.

  90. MABlue @ 12:04 pm: Got it! Thanks.

Damn, that needs to get out everywhere.

The mother specifically asked BO to NOT wear the bracelet in any public appearances. That fucker.

Truth squads have been around for decades in political campaigns. What is new here is that elected officials in Missouri are threatening to take enforcement action, i.e. official government action — to my knowledge, the last time anything like that happened were the Sedition Acts in 1798 and they were declared unconsititional.

Sigh, once more, with feeling: “Can you imagine what would happen if McCain did this?”

  92. catarina, thanks. The migraine is gone today, though I am wiped out, as I often am afterwards. I’ve used Axert, and it usually helps. Hubby’s a doc, so I’ve used almost everything out there. This was a bad one, though – I get the freaky one pupil dilation, face numbness, puking and everything. He ended up giving me a big old shot of nubaine and phenergan on top of my Maxalt, and I just slept for 6 hours.

When I lived on the coast of SC, they were awful, but since being in San Antonio the migraines are few, thank goddess. I tend to get triggered by sudden barometric shifts, and we only have those here rarely, whereas the east coast had a new pressure front rolling by every week.

  94. madamab,

I realize that the Shrillosphere was all over Bush’s attempts to suppress free speech.

But I’m really asking a more specific question, as to whether Bush or others actually went to the point of getting people in law enforcement essentially to threaten prosecutions for what they deem “lies” (or is it sufficient that a statement or ad merely be “misleading”?)

So far as I can remember, Bush’s attempts to suppress speech, while contemptible, never reached that level. So far as I remember, with Bush the attempts mainly involved invocations of national security. They weren’t outright attempts to suppress ads and speech using threats from law enforcement officials during a political campaign. Really, if we as a people can’t enjoy full freedom to say what we want about our candidates during a political campaign without fear of prosecution, where is our freedom? What does it mean?

For me it’s almost worse than the migraine sometimes and I can’t seem to eat enough carbs. So weird.
My husband keeps telling me we need to move away from the east coast-do I have to tell him he’s right? (I hate that 😉
Glad you have that in-house medical care and hope you can take it easy today.

    Please forward this email.
Barack Obama is attempting to use law enforcement to repress free speech.
Watch this Youtube of a Missouri newscast for the story
and read the statement of the Missouri Governor below:

Missouri “Truth Squads” To Protect Obama Campaign

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts – not a free society.”

  100. frankly0 – I agree, but Bush has created Gitmo and used rendition and torture in direct violation of habeas corpus and the Constitution and international treaties.

Obama=Bush. He is not the President yet, so there’s only so much he can do. Imagine what he would be capable of if he got those Bushian tools in his hands.

  101. frankly0, on September 28th, 2008 at 12:16 pm ?

Wasn’t those 8 state AG’s fired by Alberto Gonzalez because they didn’t go after” voter fraud” . The GOP ain’t pure. lol!

  102. While I would not go so far as to compare Obama to Stalin, one of history’s greatest mass murderers, I do think the whole “truth squad” apparatus is frightening. I don’t recall ever seeing anything like this in a presidential campaign.

  103. this is a joke right?

I think this is a hoax.

  104. paper doll:

Nobody here thinks the GOP is pure.

But they’re not pure evil either.

  105. madamab,

I’m not disagreeing with you about Bush. I have little doubt but that Obama will replicate some of his worst features.

But if, as I strongly suspect, this move by Obama’s campaign to solicit law enforcement people to utter threats of prosecution for statements they deem “lies” (or perhaps just “misleading”) during a political campaign is truly without precedent in Presidential politics, then it is a development to which we had all better pay great attention.

  106. murphy! is that you?

Can th MO bar complaint be a “Puma Prowl?”

  107. myiq2xu, on September 28th, 2008 at 12:28 pm

Who said they were pure evil ? Was there a post that said that that I didn’t see?

  108. paper doll,

I’m not saying that Bush and his people didn’t engage in all kinds of ugly use of law enforcement officials to achieve political ends.

I’m asking a narrow question about whether any Presidential candidate has ever tried to use law enforcement officials to suppress speech during a political campaign. Remember, a political campaign, almost more than any other activity, is considered to be as unbounded as possible in the scope of what the law should allow. People understand among other things that interpreting what is a “lie”, what is “misleading”, etc., is, in the heat of politics is essentially impossible to do fairly. People understand that advocates should be allowed without any inhibition to say what they choose, and that it is the job of the opposing side and a free press to correct them. If one looks at the sorts of truly scurrilous things that were said in the past about Presidential candidates, it’s obvious that that was the attitude adopted and expected as consistent with our ideas of freedom of speech.

What I’m saying is that this move by the Obama campaign strikes me as unprecedented, and in a truly sinister direction. If there are examples of this in the past, I’d like to know them. I just can’t think of any.

  109. Oh, and BTW,

At least we can expect that the committed advocates of freedom of speech at Talkleft will be all over this story, decrying the encroachment on that fundamental right.

OK, can’t keep a straight face anymore. Ha ha!

It certainly is sinister , I don’t know enough history to know if this exact move is unprecedented. But what does seem very unprecedented is how up front they are about it …..and the press reporting it like these individuals are just doing their job instead of committing a crime themselves .

  111. myiq2xu,

Did you read the comments on that BTD post? I had to stop because I was getting queasy. All the trailer trash, white trash remarks were too much for me. And some of those comments supported Hillary. Yikes!

We must fight this with every means in our power , and send him back to Chicago

  118. madamab,

I didn’t see anything about the ACLU at that Boston Examiner link you posted.

  119. madamab,

Sorry. It looks like it’s a national pub and they put up your city when you click on. I’ve never heard of it.

  120. Murphy – What is a hoax? I don’t understand your comment.

  121. madamab,

OK, never mind. That is a civil liberties publication. However, I can’t find any stories to the effect that the ACLU is dealing with this. They definitely should. There is no problem with partisan Democrats acting as surrogates for Obama, but law enforcement should stay out of it.

Obama is a public figure and he’ll have to take his knocks with everyone else. He has raised plenty of money. Let him get his staff and surrogates to respond to lies and attacks like every other politician.

  124. Can anyone say “Fairness Doctrine”?

Believe me BO is going to enact it when he get’s into office and he can do it with out an act of congress.

    What does it mean:
    1. The collapse of free speech on the radio
    2. The policing of speech on the Internet

Congressmen Mike Pence from IN has been trying to get a new bill passed called “The broadcasters freedom act” to repeal the Fairness Doctrine but Nancy P. would not let any of the Dem’s sign it.

What should scare us as well, is that 37% of the public think the internet should be policed. God help us if OB get’s in office

frankly, does the name Don Siegelman ring a bell?

They didn’t just “threaten” Don Siegelman. They threw his @ss in jail for opposing them.

Why is no one drawing the parallel between Obama using of prosecutors in Missouri and Bush using federal attorneys to silence their enemies? Democrats and even some media screamed to the skies about Gonzales’ firing of the attorneys. There’s not one word on the mainscream media about Obama’s Missouri hit squad.

  128. Funny, I just watched “The Godfather.” (Newly remastered on blu-ray – stunning.) Anyway, there’s that scene at the hospital when Michael and Enzo pretend to be Don’s body-guards because all of his protection has been removed. And a squad of cops show up up, including their captain, played by Sterling Hayden. This guy is in the pocket of the rival mafia house and beats the crap out of Michael for protecting his father while all the other uniformed cops hold Michael’s arm and look on. He’s got the weight of the law behind him. This story reminded me of that scene.

So true. I live in Manhattan — Obama territory — and I’ve always feared to let people know that I do not support BO. Even during the primaries, I hesitated to let people know that I was a Hillary supporter because there were so many vicious Hillary haters around me. Now, I just say that I’m undecided, hehe…it’s true that I don’t care for either the R or D ticket now that Clinton is no longer in the race, but I’m definitely not undecided when it comes to voting for BO — he** no!! I’m only undecided about whether to vote JM.

Though I wouldn’t dare let any of the obots know that…they keep me secretly chuckling at their seething rage for Palin. Hmm, now experience means SO MUCH to them, eh? I thought they wanted change…someone from outside of Washington. 😆

Heidi Li has a post about it.

Another Manhattanite saying “undecided”. Well, in a way I am, because if NY is clearly blue I may vote McKinney…But I debate this every day – when I get angrier, I see myself voting McCain.
Here’s a video of a McCain demonstration in Upper Westside last Sunday

The commentary is RW on the video, and it’s as foreign to me as the exaggerated reactions from the crowd – it’s tricky keeping one’s center these days

  138. What enforcement action are they threatening?

  139. I’m a Queens resident and got tired of pretending. I tell everyone who asks that I am not voting for Obama. This usually results in an argument. The funny thing is that I usually win because I give specific examples of my objections to Obama and all they have is: “But…we need change! But…McCain is Satan! But…our country can’t handle another Republican!” When they ask who I am voting for I usually say Nader, but once in the booth – I must say, I might pull the lever for McCain. Not that it really matters in NYC.

  140. The title is misleading and makes me uncomfortable. This issue is huge and troubling and should be introduced to people in a straight forward manner.

  141. I agree with pm317:

I understand it is meant to be sarcastic, but people don’t even understand that anymore.. they will see the title and not bother reading and just think it is actaully mccain suppressing free speech..

I BEG RIVERDAUGHTER.. PLEASE change the title..

  142. If you really don’t want Obama elected not voting for McCain isn’t going to get us there. Voting a 3rd party is a vote for BO. Your Choice

  143. I’m a PUMA, as I understand it: I have been a lifelong Democrat and intend to be one again if the Party comes to its senses. If it doesn’t, I will go Green. If I vote for John McCain it will only be to stop the course the Democrats are on.

I could write a book about all the things I hate & fear in Barack Obama and his supporters – including this effort to silence his opponents – but I am & always will be a progressive.

That’s why I am so disturbed at how often I click on links at PUMA sites and get taken to places where liberals are reviled and George Bush is a hero – like “Villainous Company”. I don’t want to read anything being said by Michelle Malkin, townhall.com, or freep, but unfortunately they are being quoted and linked to all over the PUMA world. I abhor everything these people represent. Even when they write something I agree with, I want no connection with them.

Is anyone with me on this? After all the places I’ve been driven out of over the past year, I will hate to end up with nowhere to go at all, but I’d rather give up on online political community than consort with people with vile philosophies.

  144. DeniseB> Essentially I agree with what you’re saying. But what the primary and the general election until now has taught me is that things aren’t as black-and-white as I always thought they were. I always assumed that Frank Rich and Keith Olbermann were right and Bill O’Reilly and Pat Buchanan wrong – on everything. What I’ve realized as I’ve watched and read these people for the past 16 months is that I’ve been as naive about Rich and Olbermann as O’Reilly and Buchanan. I’ve come to accept that people like Buchanan and O’Reilly, because they talk a lot, are bound to say something true. I no longer dismiss O’Reilly and Buchanan without a second thought, just as I no longer accept at face value anything Rich and Olbermann have to say. The past 16 months have proven to me that the likes of Rich and Olbermann are as crooked as O’Reilly and Buchanan. The trick is…research, I guess.

The one exception to this new rule is Anne Coulter. She is completely, totally, 100% evil.

  145. I have been reading about this here and there and glad to see the opinion here. I hope the ACLU is monitoring this nonsense. Anyway I have a new poster depicting this craziness

  147. Hi, this is the first time i’ve posted on this blog. Thank you for keeping a discussion going about this matter. I first saw this last night on N0 Quarter, and since then have sent a thank you letter to Governor Blunt for standing up to these tactics, a letter to press wing of the Republican governor’s Association, asking them to give this story the national exposure it needs, & a letter to Greta, On the Record. O ya, & i did my best to contact the DoJ too, but i doubt they will take my request for investigation seriously. When something bad really IS happening, no one believes the regular citizen! We shall see if this grows any legs.

Apparently Missouri is just the tip of the iceburg though. This is happening in PA as well according to some other blogs.

Along with attempts to ban NRA adds about the history Obama’s gun control votes.

& finally, this blog links a complaint from the HRC campaign of civil rights abuses by Obama’s camp

Any one see a pattern of behavior here? Obama actually is telling the truth about one thing though: he really is the candidate of Change! Yes, and just like George Washington, Barrack Obama never told a lie! Thats why he gets to decide what we say is true and what isn’t! ; )

  148. I agree that it’s unseemly to populate “truth squads” with active law enforcement officials, but in fairness both sides have done it. McCain has used the atty general of NH for this, for instance.

So far as I can tell, both sides have used them only to put out corrections to what they see as the other side’s disinformation. No one seems to have threatened arrests or lawsuits, unless you count their job titles as implicit threats.

Seems to me that truth squads are just more campaign surrogates to either listen to or ignore as you see fit, without penalty..

  149. you obviously didn’t watch the video. and I’m sick of the argument that if the other guy did it it makes it all right. you guys have no ethics whatsoever.

  150. I appreciate your efforts at damage control for the One, but it doesn’t wash. There is no equivalency, or relativism in the matter. What Obama is doing here is blatantly illegal and unconstitutional. When the only “truth” is His “truth” what Guardian of Liberty can the media possibly be anymore? The man is more fit for the Federal Penitentiary than for the Oval Office! Whatever you do, don’t let any one throw away you’re vote. We need to keep this criminal from reaching the White House

In the midst of the unsettled financial markets there’s been general agreement about one thing: the outcome of the current crisis will be far-reaching changes to the blobal financial system. For example, Morgan Stanley chief economist Stephen Roach believes the world’s central banks are now being forced to look afresh at how financial bubbles should be handled. Up to now their attitude has been that the markets must correct financial bubbles themselves.

However, the massive emergence of various kinds of derivative instruments created such huge inverted pyramids above an underlying asset class (such as prime mortgages) that things get out of hand when bubbles burst. Roach believes that central banks can hardly afford to condone bubbles in the future.

The question to be answered is: How and when they must take steps to avoid meltdowns?
    Fin Week

As some of Wall Street’s most venerable financial institutions teeter on the brink of self-destruction and are either taken over – in the case of Bear Sterns – or, as in the case of Lehman Brothers, allowed to implode, very few financial sectors appear capable of weathering the storms.

In view of the “bail out” agreement reached this past weekend it seems as if financial markets throughout the world will however react positively to this announcement. An announcement in my opinion not made by choice, however rather by force! Financial Guru – Warren Buffet correctly remarked that if the “bail out” plan was not approved – the American Economy would face certain “meltdown”!

In lieu of this it stands to reason that there weren’t much alternatives than to see the bail out plan pass through congress? A certain relief for most – al be it temporary. Both Presidential Candidates voted for the plan as has been seen. Not much of a choice by the looks and sounds of it!

Certainly the pressing question on our minds should be to now take a calm and responsible view back, on what has caused this catastrophy? We should all agree that it is a catastrophy, although suspended perhaps for the moment. One can only call it “suspended” as this has still to play out and we will see how this effects the struggling markets and economy alltogether in the short, medium and long term!

IS THERE ANOTHER 700 BILLION US$ available should this not work?

One cannot help but wonder after pondering on all of this for months on end – who is the biggest terrorist or threat facing America after all? Is it Osama Bin Laden – or worse, is it someone or something, much closer to home? I certainly don’t want to be in the shoes of the current President and wonder if anybody in his right mind would like to be in the future President’s shoes!

However, fill the shoe we have to, and it is now up to every single one of us to realise that the problems facing America is far greater than we want to believe. Republican, Democrat or Independant all stood together, cried together and worked together when the tragedy of 911 struck!

The tragedy of September 2008 is far worse!

We don’t have the liberty of taking on the world at present! No matter how righteous our beliefs are, no matter how convinced we are that terrosism should be fought in every corner, every nook and cranny, and in any place in the world. More Americans have died in this war than in 911 and we are not calling it a tragedy or catastrophy? No, we accept it because we are dying for our country, our beliefs and our ego!

Senator McCain says that he will not see to it that we pull out of this war before victory! He knows how it feels to come home defeated and to live to the consequences of knowing that a lot of people, or so he believes – has died in vain!

Are we staying at war because we don’t want to feel bad? Are we loosing our children because of ego’s?
Or worse, are we staying at war to loose our country and our very excistence?

Undoubtedly the bail out is necessary, could it have been avoided – too late to ask! Can it be avoided in the future – we have no alternative but to believe it can! The question is how?

Now, we can tighten up the budgets on every field of the economy, we can harness in every corporate company to be more dilligent in their dealings. We can increase or decrease taxes, impose new legislation, fire the wrong doers or restructure government to be more lean and mean.

All of this is however in vain, if we are still going to remain a “country at war”!

It’s simple economics people! The war is killing America! It costs us a hell of a lot more than it costs Osama Bin Laden and Company to fight this! Perhaps he is a lot more astute than we will give him credit for! Perhaps he has gone into hiding, knowing that sooner or later – the “meltdown” will begin!

Sure we need to keep face in the world! Are we doing this now?

    I don’ think so!

It is my opinion that if we wan’t to weather the greatest economic storm ever to hit our shores, we need to act and act now, before it’s to late! Our leader, Republic or Democrat will have to realise that we can’t stay at war and build our economy up again – it’s childish to even contemplate that.

If the world believes we are doing the right thing fighting terrorism offshore, then the world should climb in and help finance this war much more than they are currently doing! If not – we need to pack up and go home before it is too late!

No other country in the world other than America is facing a “meltdown”? Why should we?

I know there is a lot more to it than a normal citizen like you and me know about this alltogether. However, it is time we harness our strength as ONE NATION and forget about politics for now. We need to think about America – all of us!

  154. R700 Billion Dollar Bail Out Fails!

Well there we have it, the first round to getting the “bail out” plan to be passed has officially failed! Although the markets, the top news agencies, chief economists and the likes of Warren Buffet have predicted that America has no choice but to accept the proposal – it has failed!

Even I am surprised to say the least, as I am sure most of you are too! After reading comments such as – PASS THE PLAN OR FACE ECONOMIC MELTDOWN – it has done just that! The plan has been failed in congress.

The question certainly on everybody’s mind now is, are they mad, are they trying to ruin the country, or are they once again simply playing politics instead of thinking about America first?

The question is who is to blame again? Someone is going to blame someone else and Republicans are going to blame Democrats and vice versa. As the news breaks on CNN the latest statistics show that the total votes for the plan were 205 and against were 228! Democrats for the plan = 140, against = 95. Republicans for the plan = 65, against = 133.

Does this matter who was for and who was against – NO IT DOESN’T! Who brought the plan to the table in the first place – YES GUESS WHO?

The fact is it did not pass and we can now either FIX THE BLAME, or for once Congress can sit down and START FIXING THE PROBLEM – NOW!

The fact that people are already blaming each other for delivering a bad speach – I am referring to the Republican comments on Nancy Pelosi’s speach, is abolutely BULLSHIT!

COME ON AMERICA – we are grown ups, not bloody kids! Who are these people? A plan of this nature is certainly based on “documented facts”, “written drafts” and NOT ON SOMEBODY’S BLOODY SPEACH!

AMERICA IS IN TROUBLE – GRAVE TROUBLE, yet we still accommodate leaders who are voicing their political emotions and how they feel about the other!

What about the people in the middle class who are fighting to survive day by day, and simply don’t have the luxury of waiting for you boys to finish your party games and your power fits??

Please read my post on BARBARIANS AT THE GATE and you will relaise excatly what I mean! We have more enemies of ignorance in our midst than all the terrorists in this world put together!

  155. Indictment coming! Well Mr. Obama should have been vetted by the msm. Mr. Rezko is cooperating with the feds and turning on the messiah as well as the Gov. of Illinois. You heard it first from me, a little birdie told me this will happen in the next few weeks! Maybe now people will realize why Bill Clinton has been so smug the last few weeks.

  156. Since MO has already been brought up on this thread, i want to post a reply to the “rebuttal” offered by the Obomabots attempts to dismiss the matter as some sort of relative equivalency.

If in fact McCain has a “Truth Squad” (no McCain didn’t call it that either btw) that was in any degree equivalent to what Obama is doing, you KNOW this would have been grabbed & spun by the MSM so fast it would have forced McCain to retire from politics! The comparison here is akin to the ever recycled attempt to draw an “equivalency” between the 3-Mile Island Incident and Chernobyl in discussions about Nuclear Energy. Of course every campaign will have a legal team tasked with addressing legally indictable slander & defamation. That is a far cry from the pattern of what we see in the MO story, & i will offer some reasons as to why i see it this way.

#1 In spite of Damage Control trying to mop up after the fact, we are still left with the recorded comments in the interviews. The statements are inherently intimidating. The comments by the Missouri state “Truth Squad” have obviously scared the holy hell out of a lot of people that Freedom of Speech is being suppressed. Unfortunately, attempting to backtrack & “say” this is not so loses credibility in this instance because concerned people will inevitably question the “corrected” statement because the basic right to tell or be told the truth is already in doubt the first place. This leaves a spectre of fear & intimidation over free expression.

#2 The attempt to mollify concerns about the Truth Squads actually made them seem even more sinister, not because of what they said, but because of what it “didn’t” say. It kept repeating “they never said they WOULD use the Truth Squads to suppress free speech. What it didn’t promise was that it “wouldn’t” use them to suppress free speech, nor did it outline any mechanisms to assure us that they “couldn’t” suppress free speech. Again, this omission raises the spectre of Intimidation against those who challenge Senator Obama on any level.

#3, if the Obama Campaign won’t use intimidation to stifle the free expression of the “truth” as seen by his opponents, then why is Obama calling for charges against people investigating & reporting on his connections to Ayers? He says the alleged associations are a “lie”. Unfortunately Obama has hurt himself by being less than forthcoming on the matter. It is hardly fair for him to not expect investigation into his past when he himself is so unwilling to disclose it to the public. It is hardly ethical for him to call for criminal indictment against those who investigate & report something contrary to his version of the “truth” when he is not transparent enough to let the people decide the “truth” for themselves.

#4, concerning the NRA adds in PA, if Obama’s campaign is indeed NOT trying to intimidate media outlets from airing the NRA’s arguments about His voting record, then why does the NRA have to send legal rebuttal letters to these same outlets to order to persuade them that are indeed within their legal rights to broadcast? Again, we see this same spectre of Intimidation from Camp Obama.

#5 Why, 9 months before any of these other incidents came to our attention, do we have the Hillary for President campaign lodging very similar complaints against Camp Obama in the Nevada Primary Caucus? These complaints were very specific and clearly enumerated. However, at the time that it was easily dismissed as party spin to discredit Obama in Nevada. I doubt it could be dimissed quite so easily now because…

#6 Missouri, or Pennsylvania, or the Nevada Caucus are no longer isolated incidents. We have an ongoing, recurring, documented pattern of Obama’s campaign being called into question for strong-arm tactics designed to mute expressions that do not favor Obama. Curiously, one aspect of Friday’s Debate that i rarely see mentioned is that whenever McCain laid Obama vulnerable, THAT was the moment Obama would interrupt in an attempt to “mute” Senator McCain. It is consistent with the way that we get to see so little or the plentiful material of Obama detractors aired & given a fair shake on tv or radio media. Obama simply says “its a lie” & then we never here from the author or investigator again.

I think these points give some credibility to the concerns about a high-handed “Truth Squad” suppressing Free Speech & stifling the open political discourse that is so essential to making an informed, educated decision at the ballot box this November.

Hopefully this post will stay in the thread! ; )
