Sunday: Patti Davis cries for MOMMY!

I want it and I want it NOW!!

I want it and I want it NOW!!

Some days, the posts just write themselves.  Yesterday, Patti Davis, Ronald Reagan’s daughter, wrote a cringeworthy letter that was printed in Newsweek titled, What Hillary Should Say Now.  Oh, she was probably sincere when she wrote it but by the time I’m through critiquing this baby, she’s going to wish she had hit the unsend button.

First, let’s look at the subtitle.  “An Open Letter to an Almost Nominee”.  Well, there you go.  There’s the problem right there.  Before you get to the first sentence, you already know ahead of time that this writing exercise was pointless. Where does Patti get off telling an “Almost Nominee” to say anything?  She is an “Almost Nominee” because her own party hit her over the head with a blunt object.  The party made it extraordinarily clear in no uncertain terms that in spite of the fact that Obama and Hillary were virtually tied in pledged delegates, they were going to humiliate her and set the bar so high for her nomination that it would be unattainable for her. They wanted to strip her of any power and make her go away. They were quite open and nasty about it.   Fine.  She’s not the nominee.  But this isn’t a game of horseshoes.  She doesn’t “almost” count.

What Patti doesn’t seem to understand is that she already *has* a nominee.  His name is Barack Obama.  He’s not my choice.  He’s got glaring weaknesses.  Not only is he inexperienced but his inexperience has caused him to make some pretty stupid strategic errors.  Joseph Cannon found this comment on The Confluence by Janis and at the risk of sounding like an echo chamber I am reprinting it as summing up perfectly why Obama should have never been allowed to run this year:

…this preposterous charge, constantly repeated, that Hillary’s primary campaign was a total shambles, a complete disaster, and that Obama out maneuvered her with his “brilliant” scorched-earth attack campaign.

That attack campaign is what’s dooming him now, you stupid fucking Obots. There is a reason that primaries are historically softball — and must be. If you come out guns blazing in the primaries, you lose the general. More to the point, your party loses the general. A scorched-earth PRIMARY campaign leaves half the dead bodies on the field wearing your uniform.

Obama’s campaign was “brilliant?” Hillary “didn’t fight back hard enough?” Okay, let’s accept that. Obama fought like a cornered weasel against Hillary Clinton. Where does ti get him and his party now? The bots were always guilty of forgetting that there were two elections to be won. They sunk everything they had into the primary, and forgot about the general. Their candidate came out in full-on attack mode against his own party members, while playing softball with the other guys, expressing admiration for them, practically fellating Reagan’s dead body. Did he forget who wore what uniform? Did his brainless, koolaid-addled, foamy-mouthed followers?

Hillary’s campaign didn’t hit back hard because, if she had, she would have been in precisely the position that Obama’s in now … with the other side going after her gunz blazing, and half her own voters abandoning her. She lost, but there is a reason that primary campaigns are waged the way she waged them. Unfortunately, she was up against a stupid, out-of-control neophyte who decided that he was going to win the less important election at the cost of the most important one by deliberately immolating half his party.

Well, that’s the end of the critique.  It stopped at the subtitle.  You can read the rest for your amusement.  It’s full of the fearmongering trope about Roe v Wade.  Funny thing about Roe.  When I was looking through the ActBlue pages yesterday of all of the candidates, I found precious few that even mentioned reproductive rights on their sites.  According to Gloria Allred and Patti Davis and Gloria Steinem, Roe is THE issue.  It is life and death itself.  And yet, you’d never know it from the Democratic candidate’s websites as a whole.  Not only is Roe not mentioned but there is no mention of contraceptives either.  It almost looks as if some Democratic consultant gave these candidates a list of issues to push and told them to take reproductive rights off in case it annoyed the evangelicals who they were hoping to court.  Those are the very same voters that McCain got back when he nominated Sarah Palin.  So, it looks like a couple of months ago when the websites were developed, Roe *wasn’t* the be all and end all of the campaign.  It has suddenly become important because the wimmin aren’t coming home and now the Republicans that the Obama campaign was hoping to replace us with are gone as well.

But that’s OK.  Mommy Hillary will come and save all those stupid women who flocked to Obama in droves, mesmerized by his hope and change, bedazzled by their entry into the Sports Illustrated Swim Suit Models with PhDs in Architecture Club. Back then, it was soooo much more important to be transcendent and to feel superior to all of the rest of the ignorant hicks in the Democratic base.  It was taken for granted that, as the young bright things they are, we would immediately sacrifice all that we hold dear in order to make them happy.  These lovely Veruca Salt’s wanted it and didn’t think about their rights enough to fight for them when the Obama campaign was quietly erasing them from websites.  It’s only now that another woman poses a threat that they want mommy to rescue them after they sass mouthed and disrespected her.

Too late now.  Obama is the one you’ve got.  There’s nothing Hillary can do to change it.  It’s his battle to fight.  The DNC invested HIM as its champion.  Hillary has done everything she could at this point.  She doesn’t have the power to do more because she is NOT the nominee.   Almost doesn’t count.  She’s entitled to work for the downticket Dems now who will be left holding the bag.

But No, a mother’s job is never done.  Patti wants her to rescue Obama from his mistakes, pick up after his messes, cover up for his bad behavior so he can get ahead without really trying.  It’s Mommy’s fault if he fails.

Really, Patti, you’re 55 years old.  Grow up already.

  1. Thank you, thank you and thank you RD!!! This one really got my BP up.

I left her this comment last night:

Comment: Open Letter to Patti Davis:

    Dear Patti,
Since you have taken it upon yourself to join the evergrowing ranks of Sen. Obama’s mommies, let me remind you that Sen. Clinton has done more to try and heal the dem party and prop up this loser than anyone. She owes him nothing. See Patti, most, of us “wimmins” out here realize what McCain is up to and don’t need his motivations explained to us.

Where was your open letter to Sen. Obama asking him to stand up to the horrible sexist treatment Sen. Clinton received throughout the campaign?

She has done all she can, and is campaigning for him. Don’t you or anyone else try to set up Hillary as the fall guy if Obama loses. If this neophyte can’t close the deal for HIMSELF he has no business being POTUS.

He wouldn’t put HER on his ticket, ask yourself why.
He has turned what could have been an unbeatable ticket into one that’s hanging on by a thread.

This mess is all his fault. Let him clean it up

  2. Patti Davis wrote: “We need you to make clear that women do not automatically judge someone because of gender; we are more concerned with the quality of their character and the depth and breadth of their experience.”

If quality of character and depth and breadth of experience was so important to her, she would never vote Obama/Biden, and neither will I.

Hillary, don’t do it. Work for the down ticket Dems, but stay as far away from this train wreck as you possibly can!!

  3. McCain/Palin: Change that America REALLY believes in!

    Posted on August 27, 2008

The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) today released its 2007 Congressional Ratings. Since 1991, CCAGW has examined roll-call votes to separate the taxpayer advocates in Congress from those who favor wasteful programs and pork-barrel spending.

    CCAGW’s 2007 Congressional Ratings

    • Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) 2007 rating was 10 percent, making his lifetime score 18 percent. The 2008 Congressional Pig Book contained 53 earmarks worth $97.4 million for Sen. Obama, including $1,648,850 for the Shedd Aquarium.

    • Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) received the worst possible rating in 2007 with 0 percent, while his lifetime rating is 22 percent. According to the Pig Book, Sen. Biden had 70 earmarks for a total of $119.7 million in fiscal year 2008, including $246,100 for the Grand Opera House in Wilmington.

    • Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) received a score of 100* percent and has a lifetime rating of 88, has never requested nor received a single earmark, and has pledged to veto any spending bill that contains any earmarks.

    See:

    http://swineline.org/2008/08/28/pork-in-the-presidential-race/

    And

    http://swineline.org/2008/08/26/cagw-in-washtimes-biden-pork/

Today on Meet the Press, Biden was onthe defensive about his ties to lobbyists. Tom Brokaw pressed him, and Biden admitted (gasp) that he does talk to lobbysists, but that he normally just talks to the heads of the companies that try to lobby him.

    Say it ain’t so, Joe!

  4. From Patti: We do not see rudeness and snarkiness and sarcasm as admirable; in fact, most women teach their children not to treat others in that manner, and they tend to steer clear of adults who never learned that lesson.

Hahahahaha!! In other words, women are not allowed to speak ill of or make fun of men who are jerks?

That “letter” was one of the lamest things I’ve ever read – signed by women waiting to hear from Hillary. Sheesh. They should have listened to her when she was speaking FOR them – and they should have been the first to defend her against the “rudeness, snarkiness and sarcasm” coming from the Democrats.

  5. Hey, Obama just said in an interview that he admits McCain has not talked about “my Muslim faith”.

Now, I do not think he is a secret muslim. What this gaffe says to me is that Bambi is very worried, very rattled, and has all the dirt in his closet on the brain. He is stressing over potential attacks that have not even been made.

The old man has gotten into his head, without ever attacking him unfairly.

  6. We do not see rudeness and snarkiness and sarcasm as admirable; in fact, most women teach their children not to treat others in that manner, and they tend to steer clear of adults who never learned that lesson.

Wow, is she saying all the Hillary-hating blogger boyz and MSM have bad mommies?

  7. The whole Roe v. Wade argument that the Obamacrats are trying to push this year reminds me of the 2006 election season. All the Dems were terrified to run against the Iraq war, having already ceded the issue of “national security” to the Repubs, except one man–Ned Lamont. Lamont’s campaign theme was almost exclusively anti-war, and, guess what? He beat Joe Lieberman in the primary! Lo and behold, all the other Dems starting jumping on the anti-war bandwagon (even if they were too cowardly to support Lamont), and, next thing you know, Dems are swept into office.

What has happened since 2006? All that talk about ending the war turned out to be just that–talk. So, tell me again, Patti Davis, Gloria Steinem, Gloria Allred and others: Why should I trust the Dems on Roe v. Wade? The Dems may be playing Lucy with the football, but I’m not Charlie Brown.

  8. We do not see rudeness and snarkiness and sarcasm as admirable; in fact, most women teach their children not to treat others in that manner, and they tend to steer clear of adults who never learned that lesson.

in other words, women are taught to be submissive and cordial. sticking up for oneself is so unseemly

    And she’s lecturing Hillary????

  9. The Dems may be playing Lucy with the football, but I’m not Charlie Brown.

Yup. The only candidate who would have set that ball up properly and helped us kick it HARD over the goal wasn’t “fresh” enough for them, so they trashed her.

Now they want me to be interested in continuing their little Roe v. Wade kabuki dance.

    Nope. Not interested.

  10. Newsweek published this drivel??
Hillary knows better than anyone we think for ourselves . I am so sorry Patti you have a candidate that cant speak up for himself and wants now to hide behind Hillarys Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuit. If he cannot speak for himself to a female candidate what kind of neanderthal knuckledragger is he ?? Like the rest of the news media that are behaving like 10 year olds in the he man woman haters club??

  11. Amen, gary. Snark and sharp words are soooo unladylike.

*crosses her ankles delicately and shouts out a big EFF YOU YOU SNIVELING TWIT to Patty*

  12. WMCB, good catch — that’ll leave a mark.

  13. OMG – Riverdaughter – you put up Patti’s Playboy Black man/White Woman cover!!!

I know a Scorpio is adept at biting critique, but you just got named Generalisimo.

    Take THAT Patti!

  14. Well, I guess we know what Patti thinks of ME. I’m just trailer trash.

  15. Like I care.

  16. Patti is such a respectful classy lady. Look at her wonderful Playboy cover. I’m sure many will listen or care what she has to say

  17. RD, in case no one has said this in the last hour, thanks for creating this place. It feels good to have a place to be.

  18. Newsweek = noosqueak

  19. “Like I care.”

RD: But you should. If I got that compliment coming from that source I would be walking around signing autographs 🙂

  20. I don’t want Hillary playing Obama’s clean-up janitor lady.

Hillary will be in Tampa – and I am really conflicted as to going – I have an interview with a potential client tomorrow – but her appearance is at 5pm, it’s a ticket event and tickets could be still available – I’m planning to drive out later this afternoon to see.

I can pick up PUMA cub early and try to go, but then there’s another part of me saying, WHY GO if all she’s going to is spew out the DNC talking points like she has to? I have a hard time enough seeing it in TV, but in person? I want to be an infantry soldier – but I’m having second thoughts about it.

  21. sm: Go if you can. We have to stick together and support each other.

  22. “We need you to make clear that women do not automatically judge someone because of gender;.

Translation: We need you to make clear that women will never vote for other women, because the only way to make clear that we won’t “judge on gender” is to deliberately vote for the man every single time.

    Suck my ass, Patti.

  23. Yes!!!

  24. “It is life and death itself.”

Although I agree with your article, Choice is actually life and death. There are “back room abortions” going on now – it is just not being reported on and the reason is as you outlined last night on the show, Roe has been eviscerated and the Democrats allowed it. Of course, I do realize that what you meant – that this is the one issue to decide on, but, my objection is that you should have chosen a different phrase.

Reproductive rights must be a core Democratic issue – and that means, the Democrats must highlight it as such. It has been with great dismay, that I have watched my Party turn from this issue and marriage equality. These so-called “wedge” issues define your political character and to run away is cowardice and wrong.

This is another reason why I can’t support the National Democrats and Obama in particular. That said, I can’t support Republicans either – their views on this issue and most others, are anathema to me.

BTW, why are so many swooning over Palin? This is exactly the reaction Obama received and I just can’t fathom how anyone can make decisions on one speech and/or on a “intriguing” life story . The issues that she espouses are typical RW Republican views. She is not experienced, same as Obama, and I don’t know anything about how she would govern, her political style, her willingness to work with Democrats and others and on and on. I don’t know about her background. What I do see is that a lot of people are projecting on her what they feel and want; this is exactly the reaction Obama received. What is up with the “bright, new, shiny toy” aura? We are charged as voters to elect the President and Vice-President and the “Leader of the free world”, not “American Idol” I have no clue if Palin can grow to be a decent VP and then President or not. I had the same reservations about Obama before we knew more and he stole the nomination. I’m not saying she is Obama or Obama-like, I’m saying I need to know a lot more about her before I can feel comfortable supporting her even as a role model for children.

  25. sm: One other thing. If you can, mention who you are and what you’ve been up to when you order the ticket. Who knows what can happen? The reason why I mention this is because someone sent the most beautiful flowers to the PUMA den in Denver. The arrangement was about 4 feet high and must have cost several hundred dollars. Really, there were the most stunning orange colored roses in the display, it was amazing.
    Who sent them?
No fricking clue. They were anonymous. But someone was clearly trying to say Thank You.

  26. RD: I’m going to try my best! I have to take PUMA cub with me because it’s across the other side of town and I won’t be able to take her back to where I live after school and then to drive out there.

If there are any Tampa/ST. Pete PUMAs out there, please email me at sm_puma@yahoo.com – maybe we can meet up beforehand.

  27. These people have alot of nerve….no brains, but alot of nerve…in their heart of hearts, do they seriously think this kind of stuff is going to fly? obama fatigue has already set in and the number of sufferers is growing!

  28. Boy this is weak. And thanks for putting up that Playboy cover, RD. If the women who support Obama are worried about reproductive rights, then talk to him about it. He’s their messiah. Personally I don’t think he gives a hoot about any “women’s issue.” Hillary can fight for women’s rights in the Senate. If Obama wants to be president and all these mommybots want to get him elected they’ll just have to figure out how to do it by themselves.

  29. It hit me today….I’m NOT REJECTING the DEMOCRATIC PARTY…”I’m REJECTING Obama’s DEMOCRATIC PARTY”!!
Here in NY the papers in June ALL headlined with; “IT’S HIS
PARTY NOW”! Well good for him, now when it “crashes & burns” he can’t throw someone else “Under-The-Bus”!!

    I feel better now!

  30. please go if possible, sm. And if you have a chance to speak to her or someone in her campaign, tell them what you think – “Hillary doesnt owe Barack nuthin'”.

I don’t know if the Clintons are hearing from people like us, now that they’ve stopped campaigning and polling their supporters. If all they can hear from is the media and the Democratic party plus maybe a couple of Terry McAuliffs – I feel horrible we can’t put our p-o-v across to them.

  31. alexei said “she’s not experienced”

how is she not? she has been a city counil member, a mayor, and a governor. she’s actually governed instead of winning an election and then immediately beginning the next campaign. This is typical sexist double standard for a women. She has to work twice as hard to get the same level as respect as a man. you equate her experience to Obama’s when in fact it is much greater than his. Oh and incase you forgot, she’s #2 on the ticket, Obama is #1. That argument is not only sexist, it’s insulting.

  32. Denise W- EXACTLY… You took the words right out of my mouth. She has always been a troubled and confused person. Hillary is suppose to listen to her, WTF?
I can not figure out how these so called writers get published, it boggles my mind. The sad part, its mainly the woman that are so snarky and righteous and IMO, they are all a piece of s&%t…

If I tell them who I am they’ll probably kick my ass outta there, but FUCK it.

I have an orange sleeveless tee shirt thingy – will definitely wear it if I get in.

Ok, gotta get PUMA cub in the car to check this out!

  34. Gary,

We know who raised Patti, don’t we?

  35. SM,

Please go! Knowing you, you will get a chance to talk to Hillary. You can explain it all to your puma cub. I know you can.

  36. SM: No, No, just tell them you write for The Confluence and see if what happens. I’m curious. I don’t think they are going to ban you.

  37. bb, I guess it was mainly nannies and governesses. you know, a typical hardworking american childhood….

  38. Great post, RD, beautifully illustrated. I dared to read the link and see that in much of the letter one can substitute the idea of “gender” with “party”.

She’s a woman, fall in line!
He’s a Democrat, fall in line!
    Do or die!

As a woman, I don’t remember when I’ve felt so powerful.

  39. At this point, the election is no longer about Hillary, or it shouldn’t be. Now that we lost the front line attack, it is time to retreat and protect the rear guard, the progressives in Congress. That’s our mission now. We can not in good conscience vote for Barack Obama. I hope the Clinton contingent understands this.

  40. janet, isn’t it great?? It’s counterintuitive. We lost but we’ve never been so powerful. Violet Socks was right. We have our hands on a giant lever and we have the critical mass to pull it in a direction that will forever change the country.
    It’s positively heady.

  41. Hey bostonboomer….how are ya? Still fighting the good fight against the democratic debacle I see. Patti Davis…blech.

    Drop me a line sometime…PssttCmereathotmaildotcom

  42. alexei,

I’ve been fighting for women’s equality and reproductive rights since I read Betty Friedan in 1963. I was 15. That was 45 years ago. A lot has changed, but not enough.

Judging by what happened during this campaign, sexism and misogyny are alive and well in this country. Any fool can see that Barack Obama hates women. Why would he do anything to help us? If he had any sense he would have put Hillary on the ticket. Now he’s going to lose the election. That’s not my fault and what happens to abortion rights is on you and other women who supported Obama over Clinton. Better get busy fighting for your rights.

  43. OT: RD, I don’t know if you saw this post from the Lynette thread, but just in case:

Eggplant, on September 7th, 2008 at 7:18 am Said:

RD, I am a Professor of Mathematics and known internationally for my work in mathematics education. If I can be of direct help with your daughter, or put you in touch with others I know who might help, please contact me.

  44. RD: So the script is “Hi I write for the Confluence blog” and I’m here to get a ticket for me and my daughter.

    Is that OK?

  45. More lies and backtracks from Obama. What is new?
    This makes me laugh:

Obama Considered Joining Military (WHY DO I HAVE A HARD TIME BELIEVING THAT); Regrets Abortion Answer at Saddleback: http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20080907/pl_politico/13217

Doesn’t he always regret an answer then starts by saying, “What I meant to say is…”
What he meant to say is that he didn’t know the answer until after he met with his advisers who do everything from write his speeches to tell him what to say on every issue.
I’m sick of electing politicians who don’t give a damn or put in the time and effort to become a policy wonk and take a stand on something that they thoroughly understand.

Oh, and he considered joining the military? PLEASE. Obamoi only thinks for himself. He would never give his life for anyone or any cause and if he did think about joining the military it would only be to advance his career in politics. Why hasn’t he mentioned this before? Ludicrous.

  46. Fox News had David Axelrod on as a guest this morning and I now realize where Obama got his speech impediment. They talk in exactly the same cadence: umms, ahhs, sputtering, stuttering! Obama was on with George Stephanopoulos and I kept switching back and forth. Hard to differentiate the speaking style.

If Patti Davis feels she has enough influence to make a difference in how we vote from a female perspective, she has been smoking the hookah much too long. What’s next, an open letter from Amy Winehouse?

  47. Fox News is asking Beckel about the missing years at Columbia! Beckel blew it off as he must be pretty smart because he graduated from Harvard.

    Doesn’t anyone have a yearbook?

  48. What I meant is that her experience is not enough for this position. I believe that Tim Kaine, Governor of VA (similar experience) does not have enough experience and he was on Obama’s short list. A mayor of a small town similar in size to the one I live in is not enough experience and a first term governor is not either.

I know she has more experience than Obama – this was the first reason I couldn’t support him. As I stated, I have no clue if Palin can grow into the position, may be she can, may be she can’t. I also know that it took Bill Clinton (a much more experienced candidate, brilliant and extremely knowledgeable), time and several mistakes to learn “how things ticked”.

That said, I believe that the choice was a brilliant political move, but, the jury is out on governing. Also, I know that experience is only one criteria, that is why I outlined a few others. My main concern is I don’t know enough about Palin to ascertain if she is the right choice to govern, period.

  49. Good for you Pat. I couldn’t stand to listen to either of them over 5 seconds. They are disgusting. MO has the same speech pattern.

  50. This is such an act of desperation. Newsweek was among the first and certainly the loudest that insisted over and over Hillary needed to GET OUT of the race NOW. That every Hillary win was simply a gracious exit point. Well she’s out ….she’s not even this loser’s VP , so why aren’t you happy!?

When will any kool aide drinker call for Barry to do something? Anything Barry will do is always in the glorious future his mere presence will create . This whole stance is one followed by kids living in their parents basement or drunks. oh I will do stuff, but mommy help me now !! Well it’s always now, haven’t you noticed? Barry’s whole thing though out life has never been about doing, but just being . Well it’s not enough .

  51. fif: Thanks, yes I did see it and I may contact her. But what I am dealing right now is a kid who suddenly thinks she’s stupid in math and thinks she’d rather become a writer. The number the school system has done on her head is stunning and frustrating. Brook says she will start to take Honors Algebra I at EPGY in October (Courses start at the beginning of the month) because she wants to have her study habits in good shape before she takes this on. And the school system is perfectly OK with her teaching herself Algebra I. They just refuse to do it. For enriched algebra, she would have had to score higher than 270 on her NJASK test. She has consistently scored at 280 for three years in a row. didn’t make a lick of difference, Know why? Because she wouldn’t do her homework last year. Yep. That’s what’s holding her back. Her tests were consistently in the 90’s but she wouldn’t finish the damn homework. And that is ALL that mattered. No homework, no enriched algebra for you. No, you must repeat everything you did last year until you learn to turn in your homework.
She says she never gets rewarded for being smart. No duh.

  52. Pat – that would be more like an “open crotch” from Amy to prove we have something in common. That is pretty much as far as she could go with an argument!

    CAROL HAKA 👿

  53. Have you noticed all of the over 40 woman who have been coming out of the woodwork for O? Woman who were ignored for years. (Where the hell has Patti Davis been since 1988?) Were they speaking up for Hillary and the media ignored them? Or, were they suddenly called upon because O needed over 40 white female faces? I don’t know the answer to that question.

  54. What’s next, an open letter from Amy Winehouse?

Chuckle. Seriously. I don’t even care about these first daughters like Carolyn and Patti. I don’t really know what they’ve done with their lives except for being debutantes, legacies, and publishing books since they have no real jobs.

Chelsea Clinton is one of the few first daughters who hasn’t taken the path of acting or bestselling author. She actually knew her stuff on the campaign trail and she is the only first daughter in my lifetime I think is qualified enough to even comment on politics or run for politics someday.

Does Patti believe that after her job as Playboy and B-list actress she actually has any clout with Clinton supporters? We are ALL about substance. That’s why we voted for Hillary Clinton. I could care less what Patti thinks.

  56. sm: Yeah, why not?

  57. Obama, from a recent speech: “they must think YOU PEOPLE are stupid”. Notice again how he separates himself from others? “Those people” being one and now “you people”. How exactly does he identify with any of us. Oh wait, he doesn’t. It’s me, me, me, all the time. Kind of reminds me of a 5 year old whose training wheels have just been removed.

  58. Greetings to everyone on my favorite blog!

I’ve read here that the predominant thinking seems to be that it is only important for PUMAs to vote for McCain/Palin in the swing states, but it is okay to “go topless” in states like California. But wouldn’t it be great if Mr. Narcissist went down in a landslide–thanks to all the women who are “mad as hell and won’t take it anymore”?

I live in California, where BO supposedly has a 10 point lead. A 10 point lead means that 5% of the voters (about 600,000 votes) need to switch sides to make it even. Given that Hillary Clinton got 2.6 million votes when she won the California primary (with very low turnout) and slightly over 12 million people voted in California in the 2004 election, it seems to me that the PUMAs are underestimating their true clout.

  59. Obama’s campaign was “brilliant?” Hillary “didn’t fight back hard enough?” Okay, let’s accept that.

In that comment, it also says that Hillary “lost.” I have to object to this description.

He did not run a “brilliant” campaign. He peaked with his “Change” celebrity Messiah marketing campaign in February and continued to slide. The only reason he “won” was because he used caucus fraud to ratchet up delegate counts, fueled right-wing talking points about Hillary, and most of the party (Pelosi, Dean, Kennedy, Kerry, Dodd, Carter, etc.) manipulated the process to assist him, and the media was a 24/7 BOQVC Channel to carry his tired a*s over the line.

Re: Hillary couldn’t “fight back hard enough.” She DID fight like a…wild cat…but each time she dared to criticize him she had the Dem Party, the media and his campaign screaming about her “negativity!” and “old politics!” And Hillary is a mean b*tch.

Yesterday, an acquaintance in a coffee shop told me Palin is a mean b*tch, and I had a flashback. Apparently, strong and critical = mean b*itch. Personally, I laughed with glee through most of her speech, delighted to finally see someone TELL THE TRUTH about this hollow hypocrite. Her party has her back, and she doesn’t have to worry about alienating her own party voters, as Hillary did.

  60. Disenfranchised Voter….I am with you on this. I can’t imagine EVER that obama would go into the service…would that have been the U.S. Army, the Kenyan Army or the Indonesian Army? 🙂

  61. alexei, you conveniently forget that she is the VP candidate, not the Presidential candidate. Why would we even compare the two? I think the only qualification for being VP is having a pulse actually…..

  62. RD: Ok! I just printed directions and I’m heading out now – pickup is close to where I live. Going with PUMA cub.

I’m also bringing some holy water and my crucifix & garlic necklace. (lol!)

  63. This from the Zogby poll:

“Clearly, Palin is helping the McCain ticket. She has high favorability numbers, and has unified the Republican Party. The striking thing here in this poll is that McCain has pulled ahead among Catholics by double-digits. On the other hand, Palin is not helping with likely voting women who are not aligned with either political party. The undecided independent women voters decreased this week from 15% to 7%, but those women went to Obama. Palin is also helping among men, conservatives, notably with suburban and rural voters, and with frequent Wal-Mart shoppers, who tend to be “values” voters who like a good value for their money.”

  64. We are ALL about substance. That’s why we voted for Hillary Clinton. I could care less what Patti thinks.

The only thing I have in common with Patti is an X chromosome.

  65. riverdaughter:

    wonderful post!

I was telling my mom, who is a staunch hillary supporter like me, but like me will be voting mccain/palin.

I was telling her.. that wimpy moron BO wants Mama Hillary to change his diaper, burp him, feed him,

I WANT THIS OBAMACRATIC PARTY DESTROYED IN THE GENERAL ELECTION.

I am a staunch democrat, but this is no longer the “Democratic” Party… it is the “Obamacratic” Party

I live in VA, I will be supporting democrat Mark Warner for the Senate, but no way in hell am I voting for a fraud who barely served 150 days in the senate b-4 running.

And for those who say “oh, but hillary and the fraud have the same policies”

OF COURSE THEY DO! Obama STOLE HILLARY’S ENTIRE PLATFORM!!!!!!!! The man has no original thought in his head!

anyways, great post as usual, I usually only lurk… but this crap written by patti davis has me shaking with anger! so I had to post something..

    mccain/palin ’08
my girl hillary for president in 2012!

  66. I could not give a shit anymore for Roe. Let me rephrase that: I could not give a shit anymore for being threatened with Roe.

Do you know what Gloria Allred and Gloria Steinem and Patti Davis are?

They’re those women that were locked in that serial killer’s basement and were picked off slowly, one by one,at his leisure, deliberately and consciously giving up opportunity after opportunity to overpower him and escape, because they were too scared to risk getting hurt to keep from gettingkilled. And one by one, they got slaughtered. They feared risking their lives to save them.

They were safe. So they got dead. They weren’t hurt. They were killed.

This is what’s going on with Roe. We’ve been locked in that basement for so long that we’ve been cowed and frightened into not making waves for fear of being hurt — so we sit and get slowly fed into the slaughterhouse one at a time, because cringing, fearful wimps like Allred, Steinem, and Davis are too dumb to see that getting a broken arm in the process of escaping is better than winding up in a stewpot.

That said … perhaps it’s just not so bad for them. They’re better off than most, somewhat famous, and even have money. Their little corner of the foul basement is a little nicer than ours. Maybe they got the urine-stained mattress while the rest of us are on the floor. Maybe they even got a couple crackers while the rest got nothing. So THEY don’t want to risk.

And one by one, we all go into the stewpot — because those idiots can’t play strategically, and don’t have the brains to realize that they have to risk in the short term to come ahead in the long term.

It’s Roe that makes me vote for McCain and Palin — because I’m convinced that only scaring the Dems so badly that cold pee runs down their legs when they make eye contact with one of us will cause them to shore up Roe as they should have for the last thirty years, instead of letting it teeter because they figured it was useful.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Democrats are the serial killers in this little scenario. Ain’t that funny?

  67. RD – you might want to check into the female brain and spatial capabilities. I am 57 and was put into advanced math classes in the 6th grade. I could do algebra in my sleep. When I went into Geometry I couldn’t do it. I could not see things in a spatial capacity – not until I was much older. The female brain matures in this capacity much later than the male brain. It is a fact. I thought all of a sudden I was stupid. Later studies proved it was biological. I had no problems later in college, but it put an end to my advanced math classes in junior high and high school.

Also, the testing for PSAT and SAT as you know are based if I remember correctly approximately 8th grade knowledge for the most part (with of course the exception of writing skills). I haven’t thought about it for a while, but I think that is correct. My son did The Princeton Review, and I am pretty sure that was the target focus. Some of it was based on reasoned elimination other than pure knowledge.

  68. Bostonboomer,
What in my argument stated that I supported Obama over Hillary. You couldn’t be further from the truth. I am still an ardent Hillary supporter, I am writing in Hillary’s name for President and working on down ticket progressive Dems who did not support Obama until they were forced to support him. I stated that I can’t support either ticket and outlined the reasons why.

I also have worked for and been on the front lines on the abortion issue as well as other progressive issues such as marriage equality (just for the record, I am not gay, I just believe in equal rights), the environment and civil liberties. I also agree with River Daughter’s post – the abortion issue is being used as a “fear” tactic to get us women in line.

Let me make this plain, I never and will never support Obama because of many reasons. One is the sexism and misogyny, another is the disenfranchisement of voters, and third is the total bullying by Obama followers and his campaign at caucuses, on blogs with SDs, another is his corruptness and on and on. But, the Republicans are the ones that got us to this position now. Does that mean that I believe that McCain is GW – no! However, he is a conservative politician that I happened not to agree with on the issues. Do I think that he is the lesser of two evils this election term? – yes. Any vote not for Obama, is by definition, anti-Obama. My vote also happens to be for Hillary Clinton, the best choice for President, bar none.

  69. “The only thing I have in common with Patti is an X chromosome.”

    ROTFL!!!

Patti Davis is a nut. She wrote a book that was a hatchet job on her parents. Then she “reconciled” with them. Then she posed for Playboy. (Now there’s a feminist act.)

  70. I can’t believe Obama said “my muslim faith” in that interview. And ABC put it on the air? Amazing. I wonder what he really meant?

  71. I agree with you all where were all these women during the primary? Now they are taking on a WOMAN because she is supposedly making a mockery of feminism. What about the hitjob that Obama and axlerove did? I guess it’s still ok for Men to bash women.

How is Palin not a feminist? I just don’t get it. who am I suposed to believe priveleged socialites like Davis and Steinem or my own lying eyes?

  72. Then she posed for Playboy. (Now there’s a feminist act.)

But Dave, it’s OKAY when one of “us” does it. It’s only bad for women when Republican chicks show their tits.

  73. All this wondering if Palin has the experience to govern….gee I don’t remember all this nashing of teeth over W. We heard over and over he’ll have advisers…so what’s the problem? /snark/ Also while I disagree with her views, I don’t see where Palin has aggressively pushed them in her role as Gov.

riverdaughter if I start speaking about schools and homework, I’ll really get mad. A friend finally had to get a house loan so she could put her daughter in a Quaker school and frankly the original school only showed any willingness to listen the moment she said ” I’m taking my child to a private school” They may not have wanted to help the child, but they sure wanted her always high test scores. I’m really sorry you and your daughter are going threw this.

  74. AMEN, Janis! It’s the clout, stupid. If we get the clout, then we can make choice TRULY safe and STOP this madness every 4 years.

  75. You’re a great writer, Janis. Please post more frequently!

  76. Carol,

I had the exact SAME experience! I had been in advanced math classes & worked algebra problems the way some people do crossword puzzles. But, I flunked Geometry my freshman year. The experience totally rattled me. And I stopped taking math class for the rest of high school.

I was astonished to find that in College I was back to straight A’s — in fact I rarely got a problem wrong. And in my logic class I didn’t miss a single problem in any assignment or test the entire semester.

Still, I never thought about the geometry issue being anything but my own failure until now.

  77. I just think it’s amazing that they treated Hillary and her supporters like crap, directly told us they don’t need us, chose Solis Doyle to do the VP search, and then didn’t even vet Hillary, and NOW they want her to do whatever is necessary to help the weaker, inexperienced man win? And WOMEN are asking her to do this?

Sally Quinn, Patti Davis, Maureen Dowd–who the hell cares what they think? And talk about Mommy issues: I have one name…

    Nancy Reagan.

  78. Barack is beginning to lose the luster we know he never had. He must inwardly despise Sarah for taking away a lot of his thunder since her face is smack dab all over the periodicals, the press is forever writing about her, and the talking heads can’t quite get enough. Positive or negative, it has become a 24 hour Palin lovefest.

Just as Bush has become almost irrelevant this past few months, Obama has become a second tier story. I couldn’t be happier!

Take that DNC! When you stoop to sending out the female warriors to support and defend What’s His Name, you have conceded the inevitability of your hand picked candidate. Hillary would have won. The nation was ready. The dialogue has changed and a woman, for better or worse, is leading the pack. But of course, she plays for the other side. Only idiots like the current member slate of the DNC would not be able to see beyond their noses. Oh well!

  79. “It’s only bad for women when Republican chicks show their tits.”

Well, I think Playboy is so irrelevant now that who cares.

Janis, love your posts. You are so graphic you could give Stephen King a run for his money!

  80. correction: Solis Doyle was chosen to be VP Chief of Staff, not VP search.

  81. bostonboomer….what he meant is that he NEVER meant to say that. slip ‘o the tongue….he is not and never had been a muslim….maybe he he meant his faith in MUSLIN…lmao

  82. I’m thinking that I have to vote on the Cleft Palate/adomption issue. I’m still uncommitted. But, I’m really leaning toward voting for the man (the couple) who DID something so real, so powerful, so personal, so extremely generous for someone.

The story has shaken me to my bones.

  83. NAILED! ——— brilliant writing as ever!
what a situation theses dumbells gort Hillary and us into, no?
    IMBECILES! IMBECILES! IMBECILES!
So, you are right about Palin, RD. A littlr tweak of a few core things and she’s not so bad……

    KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
and do we ever have it, in spades as a group.

ps: I love the Cannonfire’s witty way with words — perfect complement to you! Last time I was over there, hw was taking your old stomping grounds apart in ways that almost made me fall off my chair I was laughing so hard.

    IMBECILES, all!

    xxoo!

  84. Hi ssmith! I know you from our old TM days.

OF COURSE THEY DO! Obama STOLE HILLARY’S ENTIRE PLATFORM!!!!!!!!

LOL. I always scream the same thing when they say that.

  85. typos oh sorry! I can spell—-I was just

    URRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

    & RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

    PUMAROARING at the IMBECILITY!

    hugs………….!

  86. My wife was jumping up and down last night watching the CNN attempt at a hatchet job on Sarah Palin. She turned to me and said, “She didn’t SELL the jet on EBay. She only LISTED it there but it didn’t SELL! Lies! Lies! Lies!”

If that’s all they’ve got they are really grasping at straws.

  87. someone sent the most beautiful flowers to the PUMA den in Denver. The arrangement was about 4 feet high and must have cost several hundred dollars. Really, there were the most stunning orange colored roses in the display, it was amazing.

Who sent them? No fricking clue. They were anonymous. But someone was clearly trying to say Thank You.

I think I’m going to cry. Seriously. I was in and out of there all week but mostly was out on the front porch trying to stay out of the way…how wonderful.

sm, you gotta go. Even though it’s heartbreaking to watch Hill mouth words we know she’s being forced to say, it’s still her. And she’s still magnificent.

Also – when I saw her at Womencount PAC’s event, she said a few things about supporting the ticket, but also A LOT about reforming the corrupt caucus system and helping other women. Both times I saw her in Denver she was a touch passive aggressive – talking about the Dems but also what they did to her. I loved it.

HRC in 2012!!! Come hell or high water!

  88. katiebird – Nope, you were not stupid. It is the female brain. So, you can start Algebra but as you know Geometry is next and if you can’t do that, there is no where else to go until later.

My advice is to slow down and nurture the capabilities you have at the moment. Music and Art are critical things that will greatly enhance future ability to do quite well in math and science.

  89. Hi fif!

yes…I only lurk here.. I blog at bitterpolitiz mainly now..

com’on by and say Hi! to us.. you will recognize a lot of people from the blog-that-shall-not-be-named who blog there now…

    http://camille424.wordpress.com

  90. From Patti: We do not see rudeness and snarkiness and sarcasm as admirable;

Did she ever actually listen to Obama on the campaign trail during the primaries? The way he spoke about Hillary with a contemptuous, mocking, and always condescending tone?

Personally, as I said, I loved Sarah’s tone. Cut that inflated faux Messiah right down to size! This just reveals the blatant sexist attitude that women are always supposed to be nurturing and nice and non-confrontational. Well look out boys, because we have some Warriors on the scene! I think Hillary and Sarah will get along just fine.

  91. Alexei,

Sorry I misread your comment. Actually, I didn’t finish reading it until now, because I’m fed up with people coming here and lecturing us about abortion rights.

I have no intention of voting for McCain, but I might do so if polls are very close in MA in November. I am much more worried about Obama getting elected than anything else right now. I have no reason to believe that he will do anything to protect reproductive rights or advance women’s rights generally. I don’t trust the Democrats in Congress to stand up to Obama or to McCain. I am in despair about what is happening to my country. I know RD is right that supporting good Democratic downticket candidates is our only hope. But I think it is also very important that Obama loses this year.

I know not that many people probably agree with me on this, but I see something very frightening in Obama and his followers. I see fascism. We have already moved way down the road to fascism under Bush and Cheney.

Now we have a Democratic candidate who has used the Bush/Rove 2004 victory as his model for winning this year. Am I supposed to believe he’s going to become a nice guy after he’s elected? No. I believe he wants all the executive powers that Bush will pass on to the next President. I believe he will get us into more wars. I believe he will privatize social security and make sure we don’t get national health care. I will fight like hell to keep him from being President.

To me, everything else, including reproductive rights has to be secondary to keeping this man out of office. It is our only hope to someday restore our Constitutional rights. If that sounds crazy to some people here, so be it.

  92. “Barack is beginning to lose the luster we know he never had”

Pat! this is the best one liner I’ve seen yet!

    I can’t stop laughing!
    OMG. What a year.

  93. Also: At this point, the election is no longer about Hillary, or it shouldn’t be. Now that we lost the front line attack, it is time to retreat and protect the rear guard, the progressives in Congress. That’s our mission now. We can not in good conscience vote for Barack Obama. I hope the Clinton contingent understands this.

    RD speaks for me! (again)

  94. garychapelhill,

I did not “conveniently forget” that she is the VP candidate. I stated as such in both of my posts (even compared her to Tim Kaine, a purported VP selection). I also stated that Obama was on the “top of the ticket” and yes, that is a defining need for President, IMOP.

I have a much higher criteria for the VP choice. than you do. I believe that a VP should be able to step in if the President is unable to fulfill her/his functions. This has happened in our history. I believe that we as voters need to know the governing philosophy of the VP choice. That said, of course I look at the top of the ticket and that person is who I vote for; this time, I vote neither and will cast mine for the best President, Hillary Clinton.

  95. I know you’re over there ssmith–I lurk there too, but post here! Like minded souls over there–intelligent, informed, hilarious, and passionate.

  96. Have to attend a 6 yr old’s birthday party this afternoon. Much as I love my granddaughter, I have a feeling with this age group that it will be much like attending an Obama rally!

  97. Dave:

Palin never said “sold on Ebay”

Palin said “put in on Ebay”

and this has been proven true…

as those who do business on ebay know.. if things don’t sell, it still goes thru ebay, but thru a broker..b/s additional help is needed to sell that item

yes, they truely are grasping at straws at this point..

next thing that will be said is that Palin is some bookburning witch, LOL! I’m crakcing up at some of these laughable rumors!

  98. BostonBoomer

    DITTO!
    this is NO JOKE.
    NOT THIS YEAR.

    Fascism & worse.

  99. bb: You and I are on the same path come November. We will wait and see.

  100. I wonder if Obama is having major fundraising issues. The first clue is that ridiculous statement about how he is suffering from his 19 months of campaigning, eating hotel food, flying on a chartered jet and missing his wife and his babies. That is pretty pathetic when you stack it up against McCain’s life story and even Palin’s family story. But it almost seemed to me like he was saying, “hey, I’m out here doing my thing and you guys are just sitting on your wallets, so pony up”. I understand that event required a $38000 ticket to get in. But why even say that at all if the $$$s were rolling in—wouldn’t you be thanking these people for ponying up? This guy has an amazing ability to insult the people he wants help from.
Also, think about this. Through public financing McCain gets an 85,000,000 check. That is 42.5 million for each of the next 2 months. That means Obie needs to raise that much each of the next 2 months just to stay even. It also means that is money that Dems have to raise for him that they would not have had to raise if he had taken public financing. So does this 85 million pound gorilla on their fundraising goal hurt down ticket Dems? To me that means whatever Dems have had to raise in the past for congressional and statewide races, they have to raise at least that much plus another 85 mill AND MORE for Obama. Obama certainly has no reputation for spending money efficiently and carefully. As they look back on this in October, Dems may not be too happy about this 85 million pound gorilla machine on their back.

What are SEIU members thinking about Obama’s trashing of the hotel food they prepare and serve? Think about the time Obama must spend with fund raising events instead of the campaign trail? What are the figures on how much each candidate has raised to this point and how much they have spent? How is that comparison likely to play with America as a testament of personal financial management?

  101. alexei, sorry if my sarcasm wasn’t apparent in my comment. I have higher criteria too. it seems that a lot of comparison going on though is between Obama and Palin and that’s hardly fair. And in my opinion is not a road that the obama campaign wants to go down. The sad thing is is that they HAVE to because she actually may be more qualified than him

  102. I judge you, Patti. You are one hot mess. Your got a nose job and plastic boobs and posed for a porn mag to make men think you were worthy. You went out of your way to publicly embarrass your parents. Now you are telling HILLARY CLINTON what to do? My dear, you are so out of her league, it’s not even funny.

  103. I told this story on another thread, but in 1989 I was nearly murdered doing abortion clinic defense by some clown who put a hand grenade in a McDonald’s bag on the steps of the organizers’ HQ. I continued to do it, though, although I bet most of the Bots coming through here to finger-point and scold haven’t done so much as write a letter to the editor on the subject.

Folks who want to lecture us on abortion rights can kiss my entire ass. Where was Obama when the GOP put through the SC majority that’ll overturn R v. W?

Why, in his usual toady spot behind that traitor Pelosi, whose fault all this is.

It just ain’t our fault many female members of the Obot army have developed Stockholm Syndrome.

  104. To me, everything else, including reproductive rights has to be secondary to keeping this man out of office. It is our only hope to someday restore our Constitutional rights. If that sounds crazy to some people here, so be it.

Doesn’t sound crazy at all BB. I’m right there with ya. Remember when he bragged about “transparency?” Journalists are now expressing their frustration because he is the most secretive candidate they have ever had to cover. Plus, the bullying and intimidation, the end justifies the means, and the arrogance. All classic Bush.

  105. Carol and Katiebird,

Geometry killed me too. I hated it. Nevertheless, I did OK on the tests, but like RD’s daughter, I didn’t do the homework and got poor grades because of that. I loved chemistry and physics in high school, but I had to work twice as hard as the boys to get any recognition. It got so exhausting putting up with all the condescension. I got A’s in both and it made no difference to the way I got treated.

  106. It is very difficult for me to imagine one single woman voter out there who, after reading an essay by Patti Davis, would be able to stand up and say: “Thank God she came forward as I had no idea what I was going to do. But coming from Patti Davis, I now know the true meaning of what it means to vote. Why has she kept herself hidden all these years? This is a voice just begging to be heard!”

    Are you kidding me?

  107. I support people’s right to make their own moral choices about this election. And I respect and trust people’s reasoning that leads them to those choices.

But I am supporting McCain/Palin because of the actions of the DNC. For too long Democrats have not given me better candidates or changed their behavior, instead they have just found another scary Republican to try and threaten me with. Well, this time they blew it. Their behavior and their candidate have frightened me more then Republican boogeymen.

Palin, believe it or not, actually has a better so called “liberal” resume then Obama can claim, LOL.

Yes, she did smoke marijauna when it was legal. Yes, she did advocate for pro-contraception education in school. Yes she did veto a bill banning benefits for gay partners. Yes she did impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies and turn around and give that money to the people in her state in the form of a rebate. Yes she did suspend the gas tax. Yes she did increase funding for low income weatherization programs. Yes she has done a great deal of outreach into rural native populations, working to increase funding for education.

I love Hillary. I realize she will do her best for the Dem party, but it is so outragiously unfair to to skip her over for VP, to copy her policies and words from her speeches, and to then ask her to try and rescue the empty suit who was selected over her.

  108. My dear, you are so out of her league, it’s not even funny.

So true! So are these other women who are “telling Hillary what to do.” When Sally Quinn wrote an article in June, recommending that Hillary go on retreat and examine herself, I wanted to run her over with my car. These women WISH they had 1/10th of Hillary’s intelligence, strength, dedication, and respect. Could they inspire 18 million voters to follow their lead?

What’s beautiful about this: Hillary still RISES above it all. I was not worried. I knew she would never disparage Sarah Palin as a woman. She sticks to Democratic issues and principles. Luv her….no one compares.

  109. lol RD, not only do the posts almost seem to write themselves, but they also seem to illustrate themselves too. I didn’t even know about that Playboy cover, but it is so perfect. ha!

Janis – wholly deserving of being widely quoted. I especially liked the part about practically fellating Reagan’s dead body. What a way with words. BUt that’s exactly the point about primaries, but since they were beating up on women they seemingly expected to get away with it and have the women, like Patti and Steinem and so many others (Allred too? Haven’t been to the NQ radio thread yet) make excuses for them.

    Nuts to that.

  110. One of the obvious Republican strategies is to underscore how weak Obama is. That and “Mr and Mrs. Smith Go to Washingon.” John Q. Public needs to be introduced to the Chicago machine and take a few video tours of Obama’s bombed-out South Side district. There was one Republican Illinois Senator who
stood up to the corruption. He was forced out of the state.

Americans don’t like a weak President. Bambi ran to Hillary to have
her take on Palin after moosehunter/beauty queen took Bambi down in her introductory speech to the nation–and Obama though Hillary was MEAN to him.

Bambi was vocal as a second-string basketball player at his Hawaiian
prep school–he mentioned that he was assertive–coach let us play sometimes! (He must have towered over Asian teammates.) Sarah Barracuda’s was first string, and her team went to state and won.

Unfortunately, Hillary is booked working for down-ticket Dems, which is to her advantage should the shoo-in not win.

Note to Dems: there is a
reason not to rig the nomination–you want the strongest candidate to compete in the general.

With Palin in, amend the bar room fight analogy–and once I was close to one a North Beach bar, but we have all seen the movies.

In a bar fight, who would red meat Americans want on their side? Hillary, yes,
    McCain, yes. Palin, definitely.

Bambi would be hiding in the bathroom while Biden would be clueless.

Oh, No Quarter mentioned that all of the crap that they have on Precious doesn’t even need to be brought into play yet. Self-described pitbull in lipstick has rendered that unnecessary for a few newscycles.

If Donkey Brassiere really did think Rove was her BFF, she must be having second thoughts!

  111. andrew sullivan and the atlantic are pushing a new smear. that Palin is a hypocrite on family values because he eloped instead of having a “traditional” marriage;

    http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/family-values-u.html

Oh, and that thing about Todd’s partners divorce papers? that’s the latest smear, that Palin was having an affair with him. Here’s andy’s source

    http://news.spreadit.org/palin-affairnational-enquirer-palin-affair-rumor/

    great work there andy…

  112. I’ll tell you this: If an adamantly anti-abortion presidential candidate came out for HR676 — I’d make the trade in a heartbeat.

  113. Not only does Obama not deserve any more help from Hillary, she would be writing her own political epitaph by doing so. Everything I’ve seen from Obama and his group makes me think that he is as vindictive as the French Jacobins. He fears Hillary and doesn’t like her; and would make sure that she is relegated to the political wilderness. It will be all Obama, all the time, in the Democratic Party, from the DNC, to the Party leaders, to the candidates who are supported in the Congressional elections. And there will be a purge of his perceived enemies. The Democratic Party as we have known it, will cease to exist.

The Left wanted Obama because, 1) He wasn’t Hillary; and 2) Because he is Black,; and the idea of a mixed-ancestry, self-identified Black person as President made them feel virtuous and noble. And the stupid metaphor which they fell for–that because Obama in some sense transcends race, he trancends every other division in our country, and is somehow something new and wonderful–fed into too many people’s fantasies of changing everything in America, just like that. In that sense, Obama was just another clever advertisting campaign; the same old product, but with a spiffy new bottle and slogan. Ross Perot with a better speaking voice and a major Party behind him.

None of these people have any real idea of what Obama would actually do as President.. But they began to want Obama like a child just has to have a new toy, so they screamed and bullied until they got their way and Hillary went away. But now she is supposed to do everything she can to make Obama work properly, to make sure that he is protected, and that those who would do him harm are defeated. Patti Davis has never had any more idea of how this country should work than Bill Maher, Scarlet Johannson, Oprah Winfrey, or any of the other “celebrities” who flocked to Obama because he seemed interesting. While the regular folks suffer, these types always seem to go along just fine, however, no matter who runs the country.

  114. Hillary
must have a list by now
..people who tell me what to do
    LOL

and James Carville is doing a sorry job of defending the Demographic Selected Candidate ….

  115. Carol and KB: Ditto on the Algebra v. Geometry wexperience here. I thought it was because I couldn’t memorize theorems! I blew Algebra and trig out of the water and even aced Calculus (until calc 3), but always felt that my weakness in geometry separated me from the “true mathematicians.” Thanks for posting—you made my day!

  116. Carol: Brook has been identified as gifted in math and art. She is very good spatially. The tricky thing about geometry is that you need to learn to apply deductive logic to do it. It is all about proofs. I suspect that is what tripped you up. Some people get it right away, some people need to let the concept work its way around the grey matter until it suddenly snaps in. I got Geometry but forgot the trick of it when I took elementary logic. It took me the whole semester of struggling til it clicked again. I have a very difficult time programming. It’s the same thing again. If I had unlimited time to let my brain work it out, it would click again. but I don’t have that luxury.
Fortunately for Brook, this stuff is piece of cake. And when it comes to mental paperfolding, she does origami.
    Literally

  117. @ Laney- Yes, I can’t get over how full of herself she is, to think that her opinion matters at all or should be taken seriously. Don’t you notice most who back up this fraud are narcissistic, judgmental do nothings. People who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk.
That is why Palin is resonating. You may disagree with her, but you can’t say she doesn’t put her money where her mouth is. She practices what she preaches, from going after corruption in her own party to her view on choice.
As a former Dem, who will register Indy once this nightmare is over I respect and admire that .

    Dave @11:44

Exactly! I feel the same way, I’m in NY, but will make my voice heard and vote McCain. I would luv nothing more than a major embarrassment on the DNC. The odds of it happening in NY are slim but one can hope. I have friends and relatives in NJ and PA and let me tell you, McCain is very competitive in these supposedly blue states. I get a sense they just might go red. NY going red might be a long shot, but it won’t be because many who feel like we do didn’t do our best to bring him down.

  118. Isn’t it interesting when Obama was at those “packed” rallies we never heard him talk about losing? Now, that the race is tight and Palin is stealing the attention, he starts to say things like, “I haven’t been staying in hotels and eating hotel food for the past 19 months to come in second.” When you start talking about losing, I think you’re in trouble.

By the way, why have you been running for President the last 19 months? Is it just to win for your own self glory? Or is it to make America a better place?

fif: Thanks, yes I did see it and I may contact her. But what I am dealing right now is a kid who suddenly thinks she’s stupid in math and thinks she’d rather become a writer. The number the school system has done on her head is stunning and frustrating… No, you must repeat everything you did last year until you learn to turn in your homework.
She says she never gets rewarded for being smart. No duh.

RD – My heart goes out to you and Brook, who is clearly brilliant just like mom. I came up against major sexism starting especially in junior high school. I had a computer teacher who refused to teach me. Science and math teachers who openly mocked the girls in class, whether for having the right answer or the wrong answer. A chem teacher who constantly raved about how girls were incapable of science. It just went on and on, and that was in the late 80s. I won a science fair and my teacher accused me of having my dad do the project. Though my standardized scores were high, I had negative confidence and was convinced of my stupidity, of course I also had sexist engineer dad at home to reinforce the bad messages. I knew one thing from early on – the last thing I would ever want is a working environment that was anything like that school environment – chose against a science/math career then.

But it is such a waste having felt stupid when it was the opposite and my experience is believing that falsehood took years to get over. Brook has major advantages with you as her advocate and mom, helping her to find different contexts where she can flourish and build on her strengths. But It remains a very challenging situation. She can use all the support she can get. Those people who are standing in her way are lying to her and are against her best interests. They are envious, sucky little people and I’ve met their like myself. I know you will successfully help her negotiate this obstacle and will show the way to strength and will reinforce the truth, not the lies.

  120. Andrew Sullivan, for all intents and purposes, should never, ever, ever, find himself mentioned on this blog. The man is a total hypocrite and liar and nothing that ever comes out of that twisted mouth is worthy of review.

He ranks right up there with MoDo and I wouldn’t take one word he says as having the least substance. Now criticizing her for eloping is hitting the proverbial bottom of the barrel. Who the hell cares!

Andrew Sullivan, Worst Person of the Century!!!!

  121. bostonboomer,

I totally agree with you on Obama. He is actually GW Bush. However, the Republicans have proven their fascistic tendencies and actually implemented them. This is a horrendous situation that our Country is in and we need to do something to curb (yes, we must start with curbing) this shift to total one Party (fascism) rule.

Obama must be stopped; but, we need a counterweight to the Republicans and the Blue-dogs (as Riverdaughter as so eloquently stated time and again). I will not give up on this Republic and my only weapon is to work for those down ticket Dems and support Hillary in every way that I can.

  122. Dave: I agree with your advice. I am a CA voter and I am actively working to help McCain Palin. CA has a strong Republican streak that usually gets overwhelmed from urban areas likeSan Francisco, LA , SAC and places like Santa Barbara that are strongly influenced by university enclaves. People forget that we have a relatively popular and charismatic Republican governor. They forget that CA has a huge military and defense industry complex. They forget that the biggest business in CA is not Hollywood; it is agriculture. I think MAC/Palin can win CA—if only by one vote. The biggest political reality in CA is the Hispanic and Asian votes. They went strongly for Clinton. They are both very patriotic voter blocs and tend to be big on family and tend to step back from the rock star razz ma tazz. If McCain runs an aggressive campaign here, he just might pull it off.

  123. About the math stuff, I have a math degree with honors. If I had listened to all the standardized tests and competitive guys in class and sexist professors, this never would have happened.

I was always the last person out of the room on test days. People must have thought I was dumb. But when they handed out the papers, I got 98’s. And chided myself for not getting 100. What I was doing all that time, after the guys acted like hot stuff and sauntered out of the room after 20 minutes, was checking and rechecking, and thinking and rethinking.

Also in class, I never got what they were talking about right away. All the guys were on a familiar basis with the prof – Mr. This and Mr. That, and my head was in a whirl trying to figure it all out. I’d go home and think it out, and then, voila, I’d get it (and as above go on to ace the tests).

I always felt like a misfit. Being one of the only women in class as the classes got harder didn’t help. But I was too stubborn to give up.

Women learn differently than men. That we persevere in spite of being taught and judged in such freaky ways, and go on to achieve, is a testament to us.

  124. Wierd. I was a whiz at geometry. I took the NYS Regents test midway through the year and got a high mark. At first algebra was tough, but once I saw it “in three dimenisions” I did great.

I had to find my own way of teaching myself. I was told by my tai chi instructor that I’m a “kinesthic learner.” No idea what that means.

Funny how each person’s mind is different.

I agree with RD – work to support the down ticket dems/

You have the same reaction I have to that pathetic piece of human debris.

  126. I’M BACK!!!

I’m on a “Will-call” list they said they ran out with the online invite RSVPs on Friday night.

I said – “what is this? You make people drive all the way out here, publish in the paper that tickets are still available and you have people signing up on a will-call list?”

Then campaign guy said there’s overwhelming response yada-yada.

They take your name/address/number – then nice woman who attended me said “wow, you seem really passionate, I’ll make sure to call you if we have anything available.” I said, “I want to take my daughter to see Hillary – it would mean the world to her and me if you can do this for us”

    So we’ll see what happens.

They also had a sign-up for parking attendant volunteers, I said that no thanks, that I’ll be with a 10 year old and who would guaranteee that I get to see her speak?

    So that was that.

  127. “What I intended to say is that, as a Christian, I have a lot of humility about understanding when does the soul enter into … It’s a pretty tough question. And so, all I meant to communicate was that I don’t presume to be able to answer these kinds of theological questions.”

    I see.

  128. Oh, and he considered joining the military? PLEASE. Obamoi only thinks for himself. He would never give his life for anyone or any cause and if he did think about joining the military it would only be to advance his career in politics. Why hasn’t he mentioned this before? Ludicrous.

Oh please! This guy is insufferable. Did anyone read his bios? Is there ANY mention of his interest in the military?

“Oh, I considered running for mayor”

he really dumb as dirt and a wimpering fool!

  132. I read both Willie Brown’s and Patti Davis’s commentary while watching/listening to The King of Scotland in the background. Not to side track but the opening scene reminds me of Obots. Everyone fell for this guy. My dad had a chance to attend Military school with Idia Amin in Israel back in the days and had multiple contacts with him working as a diplomat. People were crazy about him at the beginning until the truth started seeping out – but by then it was too late – he had destroyed the country. I have seen too many Amin types in Africa – they talk the good talk but they are all in it for themselves.

  133. garychapelhill,
I agree with you that Obama and his campaign made a serious political mistake and continue to do so to compare Obama with Palin. Obama just can’t stand to have a woman “give him some lip”. I mentioned Obama because I knew others might misconstrue my statement as a gratuitous attack against Palin and ignore the obvious, that Obama is less experienced and on top of the ticket. Oh well, that happened anyway, LOL!

  134. The power of marketing:

The Left wanted Obama because, 1) He wasn’t Hillary; and 2) Because he is Black,; and the idea of a mixed-ancestry, self-identified Black person as President made them feel virtuous and noble.

The beverage industry is trying to market diet colas to men because drinking a diet cola is considered “feminine.” Coca-Cola created Coke-Zero as a Diet Coke for men. The ingredients are pretty much the same as Diet Coke, but it’s marketed to men.

  135. I love how Barry’s thinking of joining up is the same in his mind with McCain’s actual service….god help us
if the collapsing Den elite apparatus, in a last gasp, push this loser over the line while those in even higher places work to steal it for him.

  136. I’m listening to back stabber Barbara Boxer on CNN claiming that McCain is too hot headed to be POTUS.

Barbara is and always was an Obot. She couldn’t wait to jump ship from Hillary. She was one of the first ones to get on CNN after Hillary dropped out and to fear monger women to vote for “The One” because McCain boggie-man is going to chain up our uteruses.

But she was deaf during the misogynistic smears against Clinton by members of her own party and the Obama CNN & MSNBC media machine. I guess equal treatment is off the table just as long as the boogy-man doesn’t get our uteruses.

  137. Arabella: I thought that’s why they marketed Diet Coke—because it was the masculine antidote to Tab. Don’t tell me women have co-opted yet another synthetic beverage in the name of femininity.

  138. Teaching Discipline, Responsibility, Accountability and the ability to be charitable in success and in loss are the most important subjects a parent should their children. After that how fast you cruise through school should be a non-issue, as it will take care of itself.

I took my brilliant son to the most “prestigious all male school in Dallas – St. Mark’s” to apply for admission for the 2nd grade. He did not get in. I went to have the meeting with the admission counselor afterwards to find out why he “failed”. The counselor had me crying and laughing when I walked out. One of the tasks Ryan was required to do was draw several figures exactly like the ones shown. One was a circle – his endpoints never met. I had to laugh my ass off.

Then the counselor gave me a kind and gentle lecture. The top student from one of the most recent school years (St. Mark’s is 1st-12th) with multiple scholarships across the nation chose Stanford. 2 weeks after the start of the school year, he left with his backpack and hit the road. The pressure everyone put on him to perform his entire life was more than he could finally stand. I learned the most important lesson of my life that day.

I did my best to teach what I preached in the opening paragraph, and I let my son chose his course. He has been extremely successful and knows the most important thing about that success – HE EARNED IT!

Life is the Journey, Death is the Destination. Slow down.

  142. yeah, we just disband our armed forces in times of peace. And in 1979 weren’t americans being held hostage in Iran. That might have had the military on alert. And, OH YEAH—there was only that little thing called the COLD WAR. what a dumbass…

  143. edgeoforever, did I not hear Obama claim in that interview that he considered joining the military because there were lots of ARMY bases in Hawaii?

Um, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t know of a SINGLE Army base in Hawaii. They have NAVY bases out the wazoo, but not Army.

  144. Scott at TM mentions Palin’s coattails may alter the results of races that up until now were a “given”….ummhhh…

    d*mn, that Palin.

  145. and James Carville is doing a sorry job of defending the Demographic Selected Candidate ….

I thought so too – I think it’s because his heart just isn’t in it.

  146. McCain was held capitive in a cage, tortured and mistreated.

Obama didn’t have the opportunity for the same “personal growth” experience because he did not enlist in the military.

Some Black Liberation Theology types argue that because black people came here as slaves, and suffered imprisonment, abuse, torture, and were held in bondage, that McCain has no right to bring up anything about his experience as a POW.

  147. William, on September 7th, 2008 at 12:18 pm

    excellent as always

  148. We all saw with frustration that the primaries were rigged, and certainly all of our passion, energy, and work were for naught as we (and the whole world) saw while watching the faux roll call vote. Obama had been chosen/destined to win, from the start.

The concern that I have, and I hate to bring this up, is that while the people who had been providing resources, marketing, battle strategy, etc., for Obama they most probably had been doing so with the idea to get Hillary out and a reliably republican Republican into the White House … BUT now they may be wanting pliable Obama in the W.H. more than the “maverick” team that they have on the Republican ticket. I may be wrong, but I can’t help not sleeping at night worrying about this.

Furthermore, some these people as I read a few months back, are (amazingly!) involved with the whole computer-voting machine business that (amazingly!) is the system still used without a way to correct its inadequacies … in many states.

Of course, no one would ever purposely rig a General Election. That would be disrespecting of its citizens, and its constitution.

I will be voting by mail-in ballot, and so will everyone who can vote in my family. But that just gives a paper trail to the vote of a few people.

If anyone has any words of honest consolation, I would appreciate.

  149. Okay, I think they might have one Army base in Hawaii, but it ain’t exactly “lots”.

Hawaii is Navy and Marines, period.

  150. Ladies – it is a biological fact about the female brain and it’s spatial capabilities. I could not see on a flat piece of paper dimensionally at a young age.

Brook and others may have developed earlier, but I have seen the data and it is biologically prohibitive for most females at an early age. I think art may advance the maturity, but I made my first “C” ever when I could not carve an animal from a bar of ivory soap in the 5th grade. Ivory soap and I are not friendly today.

  151. The madness at TalkPalin continues.

    All Sarah, all the time

  152. I’ll take your word myiq2xu. I don’t even bother going to that site anymore. Jeralyn has become a total hack.

  153. I had to work with my daughter over a period of years to get it into her head and heart that she was smart . She is beautiful, so many many of her teachers ignored her academically
Sarah Palin actually reminds me of her a bit. Works until she drops , dresses like a pro , and gets the job done and manages a household of her two children and her husbands two as well .
She is extremely bright , but she didn’t BELIEVE IT . Sometimes she still hesitates , This culture does not always reward , or much less sufficiently reward women for being bright , assertive and accomplished . This is one of the biggest obstacles for women that I see , not internalising what is true about themselves , and devaluing themselves . It hurts me every time I see a woman or a girl that goes thru this . And the adverse consequences for those that buck the system are still there .. after all the years we have fought them . tell your daughter we arent giving up SHE IS BRILLIANT and will find a way around any obstacles . and I have to add it sounds like the teacher has some issues with jealousy .

  154. paper doll – lol! “Command” and “Hai Karate – be careful how you use it.”

Way back in the day (picks up knitting) in the early seasons of SNL, they did a skit based on Virginia Slims “You’ve come a long way, baby” campaign.

It showed a commerical for a hair spray for black men. The top of the container was shaped like a clenched fist. The song said “You’ve got your own hair spray now, Negro. You’ve come a long long way.”

  155. Hillary does not need to do diaper duty. If the One needs his nappie changed because he is up to his neck in putrid stench, I’d suggest that Nancy “Miss Manners” Pelosi or Donna Brazille do the honors. Either that, or since I am for equal opportunity Howie can do so. They’re the folks who insisted on dragging Obama across the finish line and doing everything in their power to ensure he got the nomination. They are the ones who insisted that Junior could eat and do whatever he wanted. They are the ones that get to deal with the consequences of their actions.

  156. Dave said: “I live in California, where BO supposedly has a 10 point lead. A 10 point lead means that 5% of the voters (about 600,000 votes) need to switch sides to make it even.”

  157. I think there are US army bases every where. We have 700!

  158. I have to bite my tongue on all this women’s brains are different when it comes to math junk. I’m really skeptical. I just think that most men who trip up on geometry after algebra don’t go looking for excuses in their own skulls to do it; they just blame the teacher and move on.

Then again, I drink in mathematics like water, killed algebra, geometry, trig, calculus, DEs, PDEs, complex analysis, quantum mechanics, tensor mathematics, group theory, all sorts of math physics, and more esoteric forms of mathematics that maybe a gazillionth of a percent of humanity even knows exists much less can perform. I’ve already come to the very real, neurologically motivated conclusion that I am not like the other kids in class in matters ranging from math to sex to sensory thinking, so if yallz want to blame your own brains for this, go right ahead. *shrug* I don’t have a brain like yours.

Just keep in mind that, for the millions and millions of teenaged BOYS who fail geometry, no one’s going to tell him the reason is inside their blue-colored brains.

  159. Janis: “They’re those women that were locked in that serial killer’s basement and were picked off slowly, one by one,at his leisure, deliberately and consciously giving up opportunity after opportunity to overpower him and escape, because they were too scared to risk getting hurt to keep from gettingkilled. And one by one, they got slaughtered. They feared risking their lives to save them.”

OMG, another brilliant comment that should be on the front page. I have been thinking the same thing, but you have come up with the perfect analogy. This is exactly what happened with the Dems in Congress too. They are operating out of fear, and in the process they have given up our rights and freedoms. I’m not taking it anymore!

    Thank you, Janis!!

  160. Obama considered military service then reviewed what it could “offer” him. Pretty much nothing from his perspective as it included hard work and long hours. So he looked elsewhere. As a community organizer he would be able to point to his “battle scars” while fending off his constituents who merely asked to have their homes heated during the winter months and possibly reduce the rat population who were eating through the walls.

    Come on!!!

  161. Re Gloria Allred–I thought she was the delegate who wore the red gag at the convention. Now she’s supporting Obama?

And how many men can’t, either? But it’s not their brains that are the cause, it’s the stupid teacher, their mom, the girls in class distracting them … Come on.

  163. Janis definited it EXACTLY!

Our so-called Mainstream Feminists have Stockholm Syndrome on top of the FEAR.

  164. WCMB: There are bases for all branches of the service in Hawaii. The Army has: The 25th Infantry Division, Fort Shafter, Schofield Barracks, Tripler Army Medical Center, Army Pacific Headquarters, and the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command.

I was stationed at Subase, Pearl Harbor in the Navy. I am two years older than Obama. There was plenty to do–protecting and defending the peace. And yes, Iranian hostage crisis was going on at the time.

  165. Google it Janis. It’s sexist based on biology nothing more, nothing less.

  166. Karolina NYC, on September 7th, 2008 at 12:50 pm

I think they always wanted Barry. He’s 100% corporate creation and even the GOP is now too much a middle man for the top 1% . Even if McCain was Bush 3, Barry will be Bush 5 . The point is to dismantle , not govern .
    IMO

  167. “Meanwhile, in a gaffe laden interview on ABC, Obama tells us that enlisting is noble, but pointless without the killing.”

    @ edgeofforever, you are AWESOME!

  168. Carol – I’ve read about the research and I know you are right.

I have always thought in three dimensions, but in a screwy way. I need to engage multiple feed back loops to learn and understand. I have an autistic brother. Maybe it’s something genetic. I have a contellation of small neurological quirks too, like mild seizure disorder.

I believe that there are biological differences in male and female brains, but socialization makes an impact as well.
I notice that at the Rail Road Museum, when my husband the engineer asks kids if they want to come up in the cab after train ride, that the little girls hop on up handle the controls and blow the whistle as eagerly as little boys. I was pleased to see this.

  169. Carol, you can Google about how aspartame causes MS, too. Doesn’t make it true.

  170. I think if there is a difference in perception between the male and female brain, the fact that women have more problems in areas like geometry is more a function that it is taught to the way the male brain perceives it instead of the female brain. its not that women have a harder time understanding it, they just learn it differently, and that’s not the way it is taught.

  171. Karolina NYC- make sure you’re counted because a lot (a LOT) of the mail in votes last time were just trashed.

So what position do you think McCain will give Hill?

  172. Back when a knowledge of Latin was the mark of an educated gentleman, it was languages that women supposedly weren’t good at.

    Times change.

  173. Here’s the link:

    http://www.rmne.org/

Fall foliage is going to be great this year. Come and visit!

  174. sm77, it’s not even necessary for the women to like or identify with their abusers, as Stockholm Syndrome dictates. They just have to be scared enough and see no exit. They will sit still, and more importantly, they will savagely attack and betray women who posit escape as dangerous people who are trying to upset the applecart.

  175. myiq I know

I stopped by there this morning and once I saw that they are attemptiting to sell Sarah as a pawn for Dobson, left. I guess she got yesterday’s talking point. Personally, I find it insulting that everybody thinks that just because we are women that we are that easily duped. Is it not beyond the realm of reason that Sarah is using Dobson instead of the other way around? Is it beyond the realm of reason that Sarah knows how to stroke egos when need be to get her agenda through? I mean we are talking about a capable and adept woman here. Is it that unfathomable that she might know exactly what she is doing? As for this idea that she identifies with males more than females(I noticed Alegre deleted her thread) I call BS. The organization she is part of contributed to the Violence Against Women Act, Child Support Enforcement Act and are presently working on the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Pregnant and Parenting Student Support Act which would help procure child care and aid for women in college who end up pregnant. I may not agree with her on choice but I’ll be darned if those aren’t bills that are helpful and supportive of women. Dupe indeed.

  176. Thanks R.D. for the great comeback at Patti Davis. Someone mentioned Geo. Stepanopoulos’ TV show. It reminded me of an event which occurred at the Convention. While sitting with the other Tennessee Delegates at the Pepsi Center, I was on the outside aisle and George came by. Someone asked him to pose for a picture and he was standing right beside me while the picture was being taken, so I calmly said, “What does it feel like to be a traitor – Bill & Hillary Clinton made you a public figure and you stuck a knife in both of them.” Obviously, he has had others say this to him because he had his comeback rehearsed and said, “That’s not true, have a good convention.”
You can be sure that I confronted Stepanopoulos in the name of PUMAs who ‘speak truth to power!’

When I saw Stepanopoulos, I was still seething about the manner in which the Tennessee Delegation had been told we had to deliver 50%+1 votes for Obama, even though Hillary had 40 pledged Delegates to his 28 pledged delegates. Of course, we did have turncoats – even though the Tennessee law requires the delegates remain loyal to their pledged candidate through two rounds of voting. Of course, the threat was that the DNC would cut off funds to pay the salaries for the organizers being paid under Dean’s 50 state plan.

Not only was the Kentucky delegation given that same threat but 4 of their delegates who are political appointees of the Governor were told they would be fired immediately. (Hillary won Kentucky by 65/35!)

  177. the fact that women have more problems in areas like geometry …

… cannot be decoupled from the fact that most girls run into geometry when they turn 15, right about when sexism starts crushing the life out of them.

The same women who “can’t think spatially” can pick out exactly the right tupperware container to hold every scrap of the leftover turkey gravy, though. If that’s not spatial, I don’t know what is.

  178. Arabella: You’re here! I’m in CT…a bit east of Danbury. Let’s have a PUMA meet-up in the third smallest state in the union!

  179. Janis: That very definition reminded me of the “silence of the lambs” part when Jodie Foster describes the screaming of the lambs about to be slaughtered and when she opened the gate for them to escape, they didn’t.

  180. although I should clarify that I feel that there is not that much difference in brain perception. A much more likely cause is that women are socialized differently which in turn affects their way of approaching different subjects. you can see the same kind of deficits not only among men and women, but different ethnic groups. I doubt that anyone would argue that black and white people have their brains “wired” differently…and if they did I wouldn’t take them too seriously.

  181. Naoko!!

    Hillary Clinton delegate Supreme!!!

Did you see Alegre’s Corner’s blog about the various accounts from delegates?

  182. Sophie, okay then, I was wrong on the base question.

  183. What about all those women who “can’t do geometry” who spend their time quilting, knitting, crocheting, and making clothing? Again, the only conclusion you can come to is that women do these things well, so they must not be spatial or have anything to do with “three dimensions” or whatever because women can’t do “spatial.”

This is nonsense. Any time a woman CAN do ANYTHING that can be fit into a male-labeled box, we just say she’s not really doing it, or it doesn’t really count. I’ve heard people tell me soberly, backed up by “research,” that men “are more visually oriented,” when women employ far more color terms than men and an enormous minority (something like 30%) of men demonstrate some for of color insensitivity.

The only conclusion they draw is that when women choose paint chips, that’s not visual, but when men stare at enormous breasts, that is visual. It’s fatuous, the whole thing.

  184. Gary: EXACTLY. That’s some Rev. Wright BS about “black people learn different from white people.”

  185. I loved ninth-grade geometry, not only for its own sake, but also for the novelty, never to be repeated, of actually feeling smart in math class.

And I can pack a U-Haul trailer like nobody’s business.

  186. sm77, I recall a quote from Harriet Tubman when she was asked how many slaves she saved — she answered she could have saved more, if she’d been able to convince them they were slaves.

  187. Stepanopoulos is a traitor to Democracy, to us, the citizens of this country. Every member of the MSM knows that they participated in a fraud against the citizens. I will never forget Stepanopoulos role in not only sandbagging Hillary before the Indiana convention, but also for his entire conduct in this election.

  188. Janis

I’m all for rushing the basement door. I’m at the point where I’d rather die free than be kept in captivity as a pet that he can be trotted out to do tricks when the need arises. They can’t pick us all off. Instead of “crashing the gates” we can call our movement “breaking down the dam* basement door.”

  189. I’m talking pure biology and studies using MRI’s and CAT Scans. I wasn’t aware of the “tupperware” studies.

And, as you said about 15. I was 12 and no hormones yet.

I went on to get a MS in Microbiology. No problems with science or math after I matured.

  190. I guess I misunderstood. I thought Carol was talking about age/development differences between boys and girls. Not that girls would NEVER get Geometry. I did eventually catch up in Geometry. And I’m good at packing stuff.

  191. WMCB: I only responded because you said “correct me if I’m wrong.” 🙂
The bottom line is that we all know it’s BS that BO ever considered serving this country.

  192. I agree, CWaltz. I’d rather have to fight for my reproductive rights as an EMPOWERED woman than cringe in the Dem’s basement to keep them safe.

  193. Janis – AMEN to that! Women are too convinced that in today’s age sexism no longer exists, yet they perpetrate the same age-old sexist points without realizing that they are tools of the sexist machine.

  194. katiebird, I’m just saying that it’s not even that — it’s pure lying. Women are as good spatially as men, every single bit of it. When we demonstrate spatial ability, they just say it’s not spatial. I’ve known 15 year old girls who “can’t do math” who were knitting freaking argyle socks in the lunchroom.

  195. Sophie L – We live in White Plains, NY. My husband spends and some weekdays up in Thomaston CT. He’s president of the Naugy or something.

Great group of people. Half of the organization is made up of women. They have a female enigeer and female conductors.

Doesn’t go over well with the RR purists, especially when they had to come up with a uniform for a pregant conductor.

That’s tough. The fellahs up there will tell you that the women are responsible for the success of the enterprise.

  196. My grandfather was a career mathemetician and I was always extremely good at math and science until I had three years of honors math with a supposed “teacher” who, constantly and continually said that girls couldn’t do math. This “teacher” lamented that there were girls in his class at all and constantly told us that we’d brought down the SAT averages of the entire school.

After getting an A- in senior, non-honors calculus and an A in physics, I never took math and science again. I was also beaten up by other kids and ridiculed for being “too smart” – happened repeatedly and no one ever stopped it. After that happened, I pretty much felt sidelined in my own life – I knew I was smart, but I had no confidence in my abilities and didn’t think they really mattered.

Flash forward to this past year – my first as a director in a relatively new job – and my boss says to me in my review, “You’re doing fine, but you don’t have enough confidence. I’m going to work with you on that.” He’s the first person – the FIRST – who has offered to do that – but when I think of all of the time I’ve lost, I want to beat my head against a wall.

RD, your daughter is sooooo very lucky to have you. Don’t EVER let anyone tell her that she isn’t smart – the world needs her brains and brilliance very, very badly.

As for Palin – she DOESN’T apologize for who and what she is and that must gall the Patti Davises of the world enormously.

  197. Janis – I think I’m one of those people. I got an A+ in Geometry and Physics honors level and struggled with Algebra & Trig and Chemistry.

  198. I’m talking pure biology and studies using MRI’s and CAT Scans.

The same studies I’ve seen picked to shreds. *shrug* I’m not impressed by academia. MRIs only tell you what the brain is doing, not what it’s capable of learning. I can show you MRIs of English speakers listening to Cantonese with nary a peep of revealing activity in the areas over the left ear. I guess their different brains just mean they not only can’t “do” Cantonese, but they were incapable of it from birth and that it’s inherently structured into the white person’s head to be unable to do it.

  199. Random thoughts:

Newsweek is owned by the Washington Post.
    Time and CNN have merged.

Why is the media selling Obama like they sold Bush and the
Iraq War? What do they hope to gain?

As for geometry, it just came to me in one quick gestalt. Algebra was
not interesting to me in the least. I was tossed out of the honors
class for not being amused. Then in a regular class, I encountered
geometry. A very popular girl was asked to play tennis with me,
for the express purpose of convincing me to leave my homework in my locker each
morning so that it could be copied by all. I did so since it was
so easy for me. Don’t know why. There wasn’t a difference
by sex as far as getting or not getting geometry in my high school.
It was my easiest subject, but I was really interested in literature, not
math. I never took another math class after high school. The world
    did not miss anything,

  200. What Janis said at 1:11pm

“Any time a woman CAN do ANYTHING that can be fit into a male-labeled box, we just say she’s not really doing it, or it doesn’t really count.”

reminds me of How to Suppress Women’s Writing, a marvelous book by Joanna Russ. Excerpt:

    She didn’t write it.
She wrote it, but she shouldn’t have.
She wrote it, but look what she wrote about.
She wrote it, but “she” isn’t really an artist and “it” isn’t really serious, of the right genre–i.e., really art.
She wrote it, but she wrote only one of it.
She wrote it, but it’s only interesting/included in the canon for one, limited reason.
She wrote it, but there are very few of her.

  201. Disenfranchisedvoter:

Obama never registered for the Selective Service as all American males over the age of 18 are required to do.

Failure to register is a Felony.

    MG

  202. Arabella: I know White Plains well. I lived most of my life across the TZ in Rockland County. Still close enough for a meet-up…perhaps in Mount Kisco?

  203. MG: Did he sign up as Barack Obama or as Barry Soetoro?

Remember, Soetoro was Obama’s legal name until he changed it back to “Obama” again.

  204. OT, but Mawm just bought “Spore”, so he will be incomunicado with the rest of the human world for the next several months….

  205. Someone send Patti a copy of Codependent No More. Barack has to be made responsible for his own poor actions and poor choices.

  206. Gary: WTF is a “Spore”?????

  207. I’m saying that women’s brains develop at different rates. The point I was trying to make earlier is that the younger generation of girls are not socialized as we were (I’m 56.) When I see the 5 to 10 year old girls around the heavy equipment at the RR yard, they are not intimidated by it and want to learn to use it as much as boys do.

I’ve seen women at the RR yard switching trains along tracks, and that it a huge test of 3-D skills. It’s like a rubics cube involving 130 ton blocks.

Thank you for that – I was another one who failed geometry. Just couldn’t see what I thought everyone else was seeing. Put in terms of everyday life, I think more spatially than I ever thought I could.

Again, I love your posts and insights.

  209. During my moments when I “lean” towards going full bore for the protest vote, it’s as a feminist. It’s the BS we put up with during the primaries and seeing LEFT talking heads make sexist remarks about Palin after having done so about Hillary. The crux of it for me during these moments is that Roe is more threatened when women are belittled, demeaned, or marginalized no matter which side of the aisle they’re on. If “they” are successful at this on the left, then Roe is threatened at the roots.

  210. naoko reported:

Is there any media that will report this?

  211. Sophie – Yeah, we could do that, I’d love to. I go to Thomaston CT with my husband on some weekends. We should get together.

Right now I’m overwhelmed with looking for a new job, and with family matters. As soon as I feel better about the job search, let’s meet up!

  212. sm, spore is a video game that lets you evolve from a single celled organism to running a galactic empire. it just came out today.

  213. Well put, SophieL. If we lose our voting clout this election, if we prove beyond a shadow of a doubt to them that women will not stand up for themselves, then HOW in god’s name does that make Roe safer in the future??

Electing Obama sends a clear signal – women can be ignored. So what is left, then, to make the Dems keep Roe safe, if they know we won’t walk out no matter what? Their fucking goodwill and ideals?

Dream on, people. The best way to keep choice safe in the long term is to kick the sexist pigs to the curb, HARD.

  214. Oops, sorry, forgot to close a tag.

  215. Mawm got “Spore” did he? Lucky duck. We’ll never hear from him again but …

    (joking, joking)

  216. I remember this as a kid too. After 7th grade I started to get all A’s every year. I remember being told that ‘a girl shouldn’t act too smart because boys wouldn’t like you”. I remember thinking. Tough shit. But I did become, and still am, too self conscious and that has hurt me professionally..

  217. I agree with Dave here:

… in California, where BO supposedly has a 10 point lead. A 10 point lead means that 5% of the voters (about 600,000 votes) need to switch sides to make it even. Given that Hillary Clinton got 2.6 million votes when she won the California primary (with very low turnout) and slightly over 12 million people voted in California in the 2004 election, it seems to me that the PUMAs are underestimating their true clout

  218. Arabella, it isn’t just women’s brains. We all develop differently. It’s one of the wonders of being unique. I hated math in high school, but I did manage to pull a high enough score on the ASVAB to qualify for nuke(unfortunately or fortunately women weren’t allowed to be nukes). In the military something clicked and all of a sudden stuff that I once struggled to grasp became easier. I still don’t like math. I can do it though. I will always prefer reading though.

    Janis,

I never did get the women aren’t visual thing. If we aren’t visual why the heck would we expend effort to make things like our home or ourselves “pretty?” Oh right, we do it for the men(rolls eyes). Ego stroking for males 101.

  219. MG: Obama is digging his own grave. If he never signed up for selective service then he should keep his mouth shut about anything military related. Don’t you think the Republicans and their 527s won’t smear him with this piece of information. They’ll put that right next to the clip of him saying he was thinking about joining the military.

  220. I just received an email from an LA friend who sent this via her close friend, who is an accomplished writer. Is this just another Palin hit job, or does anyone know if it has any validity? [Sorry for the length, but I don’t have a link because it was email]

Let’s spend a few moments browsing the list of books Mayor Sarah Palin
tried to get town librarian Mary Ellen Baker to ban in the lovely,
all-American town of Wasilla, Alaska. When Baker refused to remove the
books from the shelves, Palin threatened to fire her. The story was
reported in Time Magazine and the list comes from the librarian.net
    website.

I’m sure you’ll find your own personal favorites among the classics
Palin wanted to protect the good people of Wasilla from, but the ones
that jumped out at me were the four Stephen King novels (way to go
Stephen, John Steinbeck only got three titles on the list), that
notorious piece of communist pornography “My Friend Flicka,” The usual
assortment of Harry Potter books, works by Shakespeare, Walt Whitman,
Kurt Vonnegut, Mark Twain (always fun to see those two names together),
Arthur Miller, and Aristophanes, as well as “Our Bodies, Ourselves”
(insert your own Bristol Palin joke here), and the infamous one-two
punch of depravity: “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Little Red Riding
Hood.” But the cherry on the sundae, the topper, is Sarah Palin’s
passionate, religious mission to clear the shelves of the Wasilia
Public Library of that ultimate evil tome: “Webster’s Ninth New
Collegiate Dictionary.” That’s the one with “equality,” “free speech”
    and “justice” in it.

Go over to your book case and take down one of the books you’ll find on
the list (I know you’ve got a couple) and give it a read in honor of
the founding fathers. Then tell me I’m not the only voter who doesn’t
want this woman within thirty feet of the United States Con stitution.

  221. paper doll at 1:01pm,

    Exactly!

  222. Didn’t the Harry Potter books come out after her stint at Mayor?

  223. That reading list e-mail is BULL-ONEY.

It is cloggging up my e-mail box and my literature discussian groups. These people are academics, theoretical feminists, snobs or people who just want to believe what ever is convenient for them to believe.

I am at risk of losing friendships of 20-plus years over this.

    Will write more later.

  224. fif, A lot of those books weren’t published when Palin was mayor.

  225. here’s all that time article says about it.

Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. “She asked the library how she could go about banning books,” he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. “The librarian was aghast.” That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn’t be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving “full support” to the mayor.

I’m guessing your friends email is a continuation of the email smear campaign started by the obama campaign. you know the kind they whined about when they showed (a very real) photo of him in somali garb. apparently what is not fair for the gander is good for the goose….

I mean really, not even the most brain dead glassy eyed evangelical is going to seriously suggest that the library ban “to kill a mockingbird”. give me a break.

  226. the quote is third hand gossip, and mentions no particular books

  227. 18 Million Cracks

    ……………….
Lipstick anyone? They sure were not expecting a ‘woman’ on the Republican ticket. Now they want the wise ‘Ole’ Sage Hillary…the originator of those 18 Million cracks to come on over and fix the ‘ceiling’ (save their tuccuses).

“No the list of books she wanted to ban that’s being passed around isn’t real; among other things, it includes a number of books published after her time in office there.”

  231. Post a link to the ‘allegations’ otherwise it is all hoo haa!

  232. If she tried to ban Harry Potter, then she has no business running for President.

  233. I don’t believe any of these emails.

  234. Arabella: I have lost contact with some people because of this election. I’m tired of people interrogating me because I choose not to vote for Obama. I have never seen anything like this in my entire life. No one even asked me if I was going to vote in the 2004 election. Now lifelong Democrats are being labeled as racists, race traitors, and bitter hold-outs even when we have legitimate reasons not to vote for him. One of my friends was smart enough to drop the subject because I gave her really good reasons why I wasn’t going to vote for Obama. When I told her about Michigan and Florida and the fact that my vote didn’t count, her only excuse was that it’s about time the Democrats start learning Republican tricks in order to win elections and that if it was the other way around and Hillary wouldn’t benefit from including Michigan and Florida if I would feel the same way. Huh? So it’s okay for Democrats to use Rovian tactics to disenfranchise members of their own party? The immoral excuses and lies don’t even make sense to me anymore.

  236. Woman voter that is great!

Hillary put those cracks in the ceiling, and now that another woman might just break through, they want Hillary to go fix those cracks she made.

    Kiss my hockey puck, Dems.

  237. that does remind me of being a HS teacher in VA. I taught Spanish and one day saw one of my students reading her shakespeare assignments in my class. it had long parts blacked out–just like some secret gov. document– and I asked her why she did that. She told me that the school censored it because it was too “sexy”. I was aghast, but the kids told me it is common. Of course the first thing they do is go to the internet to find the blacked out parts. Then they look up what they mean 🙂 Otherwise they wouldn’t have a clue. On second thought maybe it does have its merits 🙂

  238. i have a comment in moderation. i tried entering it a second time but it still didn’t appear.

  239. Hahaha

So now Palin is responsible for all the books banned in the US. That is too rich. What a powerful woman the GOP chose. Mind control over the ages and across the states. That’a a neat trick I hope she’ll share it with the rest of us. I could use that kind of ability.

  240. cwaltz she was even powerful enough to ban books from the future. she’s scarier than Cheney!!!

  241. Gary, I wonder if the kids would give Shakespeare half as much attention if they’d just been given the plays? (snort) Impossible. There’s no way they’d take the initiative to “look up what they mean”

  242. I can’t find a link rebutting this bookbanning nonsense, and I have not the facts at my finger tips to rebut it properly.

I’ll work on something later. Briefly, the new mayor of Wassilla (Palin) asked for resignation letters from city employees at the start of her term. This is not unusual at all, and in my experience, most people keep their jobs.

There was a disagreement/misunderstanding between one or more of the library staff and the new mayor.

Knowing Palin’s record, she probably was looking at the budget. Who knows.

This is off the top of my head. I am so annoyed that so-called educated people are falling for this.

PS: Check and see if “Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows “is on the list. It came out in 2007,

    Grrrrrrr

  243. katiebird, exactly!

  244. Our Hill will go stump for Democratic values, but she ain’t going to plaster that ceiling over for your sorry frightened asses.

  245. naoko,

    Please go to:

    Lynette Long
Truth, Justice and the American Way

    http://www.lynettelong.com/my_weblog/2008/08/tales-from-the.html

Send her your first person account, as I believe she is doing a book or a report or both. Good luck and thank you for trying, we couldn’t have asked for more given the circumstances.

  246. Is anyone else getting a lot of calls / e-mails from family and friends this weekend asking you why you’re voting for McCain? Or who are you voting for?

Seems to me Obama is telling his minions to call their peeps and pressure them to vote for him.

    I am saying – Piss Off —

  247. CWaltz, now Palin is evidently a time-traveler, in addition to being a gun-toting lipstick-wearing pit bull.

Hmmm..maybe that “John and Sarah” Terminator analogy is not so far off after all…

    LMAO!

  248. omg charles, is that the biggest lead mccain has had on the gallup daily?

  249. kendallj@12:41p
I got an e-mail from Boxer about Palin and how we needed a dem in the white house.
    my reply
I would not vote for the racist, anti american, know nothing under any circumstance.
due to the unethical selection of the worst candidate in history by the dnc I left the democratic party after 48 years.
They could of had the best but chose the worst.
    country before party always
    pumas,bubbas, and those people rule.

I don’t think I will be getting any more e-mails from her

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS,AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

  250. On reporting the delegate shenanigans: I can tell you this: Having gone to Florida in 2000 to help count ballots, the press wouldn’t listen. A LOT of people called up individual reporters to tell them the truth about what was going on (including yours truly)….they’re not going to report anything right now that doesn’t fit in with the narrative of Precious as Savior.

After he loses, in January, it will all come out…and by a year from now we may be looking at real reforms. But I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for any outlets to do the right thing right now. They’re probably being threatened by the corporations that own them – who are trying to get power through electing Precious.

On the geometry thing: I resemble that remark. Funny thing, after I was told for years I was bad at math I’m not only finishing a complicated Alice Starmore aran sweater pattern, but I managed to pass a technical exam involving quite a bit of physiology and whatnot. Just had to get into my 30s to learn what I needed to do to line it all up. There’s another factor affecting it all, involving a learning issue I have, but that’s a post for another day.

  251. SimoFish: Yes. Read my comment above. I had the “why aren’t you voting for Obama” conversation with my friend Friday night over dinner. I only told her that I was staying home because I don’t like McCain or Obama. The truth is that I am secretly voting for McCain because I am from a swing state and I want to see Obama lose.

  252. to kill a mockingbird??? Something about this report doesn’t sound right. Mockingbird is a great American classic that doesn’t contain a shred of offensive material. It makes no sense. Half of these books make no sense on a bannable list. I’ve dealt with evangelical types in my school board life and most of these books wouldn’t raise an eyebrow *unless* they were available to children who were too immature to read them. So, I have to ask myself, did she want them banned or simply moved to a different part of the library?
BTW, the evangelicals wanted The Witness banned from 8th grade lit class. I agreed that there should be a substitute, not because I thought the book was immoral but because it wasn’t literature. With all the good books out there, I didn’t think a poorly written pulp fiction novel was as good as something like, oh, I don’t know, To Kill a Mockingbird.

  253. Here’s how you get there:

    Google “Sarah Palin’s Book Club”
    Select the indented 2nd link
On that page, Click on “Read Full Article”
That page talks about this “blast email” with this list
    Read the comments
And there’s a link to the Alder Books page.

It’s AMAZING to me what you find when you do a search on an exact phrase.

I once discovered that one of my Web Content Contributors had been stealing whole pages from a certain site for years. I only found out because I noticed that something he wrote was flat-out-wrong. And when I called him to ask for a correction he blew me off saying, “I don’t know anything about that — I’ve never studied it” Which pretty much told me that he hadn’t actually written the story.

  254. The oh so public disintegration of the Barky phenom feels like SUCH sweet justice. It’s hard to feel even an iota of sympathy for the jerk, given his corrupt, rotten primary run. Oh to be a fly on the wall when Hill and Bill discuss The One’s sudden fall.

Oh, and Patti “Devoted to Daddy After All” Davis can shove it, early and often.

  255. Robin – A million thanks for that link debunking the book banning lies.

  256. The Sarah Palin’s Book Club story is absolutely bogus.

Some of the books were published AFTER she had already banned them. Great!

  257. katie, again, as a teacher, if I had a student turn in an assignment that was, shall we say, too good, I would alwasy google the first couple of sentences and voila..the stolen web page would be the first on the list…I always told them—tongue in cheek- that they should at least steal the material from the second page…sheesh… 🙂

  258. charles, will go read now….

  259. Nice work, myiq. Just saw your unpaid advertisement for The Working Woman’s Confluence over on TL. What a clever minx you are.

  260. Jeralyn and BTD are fighting right in public now.

Jeralyn is the poster child for Palin Derangement Syndrome, and her latest post says working women hate Sarah.

From what I saw, the evidence was anecdotal

  261. As a former MIT math tutor I can tell you I met plenty of women who could think spacially–some of them much better than I. I think some of this research is being debunked now. The problem, as I see it, is that the culture programs girls to think that they can’t do it or that it is “nerdy” and uncool. Different people have different abilities, but I’ve known women who were very successful in fields like architecture and mechanical engineering.

When I was in high school (’69-’73) the girls were pretty much absent from the honors math courses. And there were plenty of them who could easily have done it. They were just programmed against it. Now things are improving but the old prejudices remain.

I took typing in high school for the purpose of meeting girls. The teacher (a woman) had two grading scales. One for the girls and one for the “ham-handed” boys. I did meet a few girls, but, since I am in the computer business, the class turned out to be one of the most useful classes I took in high school!

Anyway, I’m not saying some of you don’t have a “geometry block.” But I don’t think it is a female trait.

Carol, I got a laugh from your tale of the kid at Stanford. A good high school friend of mine, National Merit Scholar, etc. went to Brown University. In the middle of his first semester he dropped out and joined the Hari Krishnas! Never saw him again…

  262. OO, MyIQ — which thread has the best fight?

  263. You saw the latest one

  264. I saw a comment on noquarter that FOX is looking into the voter fraud stories:

They want people to send their accounts to voterfraud@foxnews.com

  265. This all about class war. Remember some of the same people said Huckabee had a hick name. If you look at all of these women who find Palin so objectionable there is a class issue involved and different aspects of her personal identity outrage them. Some of these criticisms of Palin are valid in many ways, but if you look at who is using them against her and how is very telling. Sister Reagan is a bit of a flake and must not remember her mother and father who espoused most of these same characteristics and values.

  266. myiq2xu: WOW. I went over to TalkLeft just to see Jeralyn and BTD argue. I guess this election is breaking up a LOT of friendships, not just mine and Arabella’s. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of fallout after the election within the progressive blogosphere.

  267. Just got a hold of the first draft of Patti’s letter to Hillary.

    http://inbeliefwechange.blogspot.com/

  268. Intteresting. I ‘m 56. I attended an all girls’ school until my senior year in high school. Looking back on it, there were many advantages. We were all encouraged to achieve at every subject. (We had little or no physical education or science, however)

  269. Jeralyn is deleting comments and accounts left and right. She has become a blogger nazi. What the hell is happening to the people in the Democratic Party. They are seriously losing it. It’s funny to see all of this turmoil over Sarah Palin.

  270. When I was making phone calls for Hillary during the primaries, a voter asked me about the difference in Clinton’s and Obama’s positions on abortion. I looked at both candidate’s web sites and Hillary Clinton’s site was clear about being pro-choice. When I checked Obama’s site, I could not find any position stated about this issue! How NARAL could have endorsed him over her when he would not even state a clear position on his web site was truly disappointing. He is absolutely spineless and conniving.

  271. Gary note that Alexie went on to say:

“and I don’t know anything about how she would govern, her political style, her willingness to work with Democrats and others and on and on.”

She basically admits she prefers being spoon fed rather than doing her homework. If she did the research on her own, she would find the answers to those questions. She is basically asking everyone to give her the answers, the question will be who she believes more.

  272. Isolde – You are correct. It is a class issue.

  273. Arabella Trefoil, on September 7th, 2008 at 1:45 pm Said:
That reading list e-mail is BULL-ONEY.
It is cloggging up my e-mail box and my literature discussian groups. These people are academics, theoretical feminists, snobs or people who just want to believe what ever is convenient for them to believe.
I am at risk of losing friendships of 20-plus years over this.
    Will write more later.
    ====

Me, too, Arabella, because if they send this crap to me, I answer….and they obviously aren’t going to like being outed as mindless DUPES.

  274. I was watching a bit of Fareed Zakaria’s show about 45 minutes ago. I had it on, cuz I was too lazy to turn it off. He turned into quite the bot, so I never watch him. He pretends to be cutting edge cosmopolitan/internationalist. I was barely listening to it as background noise when he had media reps from Germany, Japan, and Kenya on, to gauge the foreign response to our wonderful political system. Fareed joyfully hinted to them that their constituencies must be all agaga about blabla’s candidacy. All 3 disputed this myth- the German rep said his people are shocked at the American’s tendency to regard blabla as the Messiah, the Japan rep said they would prefer a repug due to economic and security issues, and even the African rep said they had better things to worry about than pay close attention to the “One”. Fareed smiled on in oblivious glee. It was tres interesting!
I now have the sense to turn some music on in its stead.

  275. “We’re not going to be anybody’s attack dog against Sarah Palin,” a Clinton insider said yesterday.

Isn’t being the attack dog part of the VP nominee’s duties?

    Mountain Sage

  276. Went to TalkLeft to see what all the fuss is about. The first thing I see is Jeralyn’s list of “rules” concerning what kind of comments will be allowed. The Obots are cracking up!

  277. More flip-flops

    From the AP:
Democrat Barack Obama says he would delay rescinding President Bush’s tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.

Nevertheless, Obama has no plans to extend the Bush tax cuts beyond their expiration date, as Republican John McCain advocates. Instead, Obama wants to push for his promised tax cuts for the middle class, he said in a broadcast interview aired Sunday.

  278. MyIQ — WoW — that most recent post.

And you confronted Jeralyn directly about The Confluence. I had no idea we were all swimming in wealth!

  279. hey myiq, did you see jeralyns response to you about the confluence?

blue collar working class women? I highly doubt they are. Most of the “working class women” demographic described in the article — important swing voters– are too busy struggling with making ends meet to spend time on blogs.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!! I guess you guys are all a bunch of elite rich women….wait a minute, I thought we were all low information old grannies. does. not. compute. Not to mention that her comment is quite elitist and sexist itself. She’s just towing the line that women with children can’t handle doing more than one thing at a time.

  280. Censorship, I got the boot ages ago, because I didn’t like the sexist comments. Woo Hoo…sexism yes, critical arguments NO! TalkLeft is now CensorWhatsLeftTalk!

  281. Dave, i agree that generalizations are sometimes not helpful in terms of the spatial deficits area, etc. I am a grrill and I was very good in geometry, trig, and physics, in addition to set theory and analysis. I was a merit scholar and always scored extremely high quantitatively, but received absolutely no encouragement to enter math intensive fields (was a freshman in 73). Being very shy, I would have required encouragement for just about everything. I am amazed at all of the women who excelled in these fields who are of my age- I guess they were more assertive or supported or lucky. Self-confidence is a key.

  282. Katiebird said: I had no idea we were all swimming in wealth!

I’d better check my lottery ticket from Friday….

  283. citizen 70,

I thought he knew someone in NARAL and that is how that happened. Didn’t all the state chapters say that they weren’t consulted?

  284. Well! I thought this was a blue collar blog.

I had no idea I was consorting with elitist snobs and pampered upper-class types.

  285. Charles:

She’ll just delete my comment and ban me.

    She can’t handle the truth.

  286. I doubt jeralyn would know a blue collar woman if one bit her on the ass, much less got her comment deleted from talkleft…..

  287. Wow, I am online all the time because I am swimming in dough? I thought it was because a disc injury keeps me from working right now, but whatever.

I guess the Cheetos are secretly the Fortune 500, and the swarming bots are all trust fund babies.

  288. Well, if Jeralyn must know, my family is working class. I’m the first person in my family to attend college and the ivy league. I am knee deep in school loans so at this point I wouldn’t call myself an elite, rich woman.

Does Jeralyn think that her site is any different? I’m sure all of the working class women flock to TalkLeft because they find Sarah Palin the most elitist candidate in this presidential race (snark).

  289. lol..maybe everyone should go do a roll call o n talk left. you know just leave a comment with your name and job, and that you blog on the confluence.

  290. of course she’d just shut all comments down…

  291. There’s a brand new one up. Apparently being “relentlessly driven” is a horrible thing in a VP Candidate.

  292. Wow!

Jeralyn v BTD @ TL is becoming a street brawl. I don’t think BTD will be there for much longer. I think TL will just become Jeralyn and that numbskull TChris.

  293. Ah, Gary — my account there is gone. I can only read not comment (which might be why I’m flooding The Confluence with my opinions about it)

  294. katiebird, I don’t mind “relentlessly driven”, so long as the person in question actually ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING in one job before stepping to the next rung.

    Palin did. He didn’t.

  295. I love that group, Charles!

  296. WMCB: (nodding)

  297. I am, I don’t know if I can pull off the orange though…..

  298. I am, Charles, I think. I was there at Kos when the post went up, and had a ball in that thread!

  299. oops I guess i am in spirit!! lol

  300. MyIQ

    Bahahahahahahaha

Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon………

ROTFLMAO of the absurdity of it.

  301. Did you see that fiasco TChris put up the other night on Cindy McCain’s speech?

It was the kind of thing you see at Cheetoville or Balloon Juice.

  302. Jeralyn has the worst case of a negative psychological transference with Sarah Palin that I’ve seen in a while.

She’s just too angry and obsessed with the woman for it to be anything else. What a case study.

  303. I guess this election is breaking up a LOT of friendships, not just mine and Arabella’s. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of fallout after the election within the progressive blogosphere.

DisenfranchisedVoter: huh? I don’t know what you mean. Did you post elsewhere under a different non de blog?

  304. “nom de blog”

  305. I have a confession. I am a horrible person. I am relentlessly driven too. Of course, I’d always thought that relentlessly driven was basically another way of saying determined and never in a million years thought that was bad. It’s gotten me through some awful stuff. Go figure.

  306. sm77:

He did not register under either name.

    MG

  307. I think Jeralyn has the first confirmed case of PDS in the blogosphere.

Unfortunately, she won’t be the last.

  308. MyIQ — I’ve never liked TChris. Always thought he was a jerk and stopped reading his stuff months ago. Talk about Elitest.

Is it worth hunting up that post just for laughs?

  309. “Because she wouldn’t do her homework last year. Yep.”

RD: I had this problem with my son. Consistently high scores, classwork high, no homework gives you a grade of F (except they gave him a D-

Here, homework is close to half of your grade.

  310. not sure if these have been posted – good to send friends who are bugging you

THIS IS A VIDEO THAT EVERY DEMOCRAT, ESPECIALLY WOMEN, MUST SEE…..AND THEN ASK IF THIS PARTY AND THEIR CANDIDATE REPRESENT HOPE OR POSITIVE CHANGE FOR AMERICA!

    and

WATCH THIS VIDEO TO SEE IF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND ITS TICKET REPRESENT HOPE AND POSITIVE CHANGE FOR AMERICA!

  311. myiq, it’s amazing.

I mean yeah, she’s a Republican, but I have yet to find anything she has done in office that is bad.

But they are howling like she is Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush, and Beelzebub all rolled into one. They hate her WORSE than the truly bad guys.

  312. Jeralyn:

“If you are bored by what I write about, please scroll on by.”

    What if we are amused?

  313. myiq2xu

    Sarah Palin is very popular

    The Confluence, for example

I love your response on TL. It made my day.

  314. kateibird:

    TChris has never been funny.

  315. cwatz, there’s nothing wrong with being relentlessly driven and ambitious….unless you’re a woman.

  316. snort TChris wouldn’t recognize funny if it slapped him on the head.

  317. Arabella:

Jeralyn says you aren’t “working class” so your opinion doesn’t count

  318. Gary, funny that a woman lawyer (of a certain age) would be offended by it, isn’t it?

  319. I don’t think she does. she’s what they call a “sell-out” lol…

  320. RD, wrt Brooke, just keep being supportive. My IQ was in the Mensa sphere, and I was told that I could not do math or science because I had that terrible XX genetic component.
Oddly, I ended up being a project manager in a major telecom company, dealing with data networks and was able to retire at 55. So much for that XX genetic component.
Encouragement is the most important in today’s world. Witness Regency, and what she is accomplishing, despite her crush on the Big Dawg.
One other thing, Both Bill and Hill have been very, very vocal on women and accomplishment and education. I haven’t seen anything from the One on these issues. Lots of palaver, but nothing substantive.
The grass needs to be cut and the crabgrass needs to be excised. Back to lurkerdom

  321. I guess she’s just a little too ambitious and driven to care about principles 🙂

  322. The main speechwriter for Obama is 27.

  323. Jeralyn – Are you saying that no working class women read your blog? If not, who is.

  324. Carol, that explains so much….

  325. Well i just left a polite bio for Jeralyn and pushed back on the narrative. I wonder if I will be banned. I guess we’ll see.

  326. The key to effective advertising/PR/political campaigning is:

    1. Realizing that everyone does not think like you do

    2. Finding out what they actually think (and not what you believe they should think)

    3. Conforming your message to them

  327. Re: Talkleft – I’m not accusing anyone directly, but I’ve seen a lot of people pull sudden turnabouts in politics after they’ve been promised something (cushy job, special access, etc.) I’m just sayin’.

The truth is that I am secretly voting for McCain because I am from a swing state and I want to see Obama lose.

Heh. Yeah. I’ve got a couple of dear friends of the ‘you gotta vote Dem no matter what’ school myself. Have been slowly providing more detail about exactly why I can’t stand Barky. To my great surprise they’re actually listening. Wouldn’t surprise me if I eventually make a couple of converts.

I’m not from a swing state, but I’m also leaning McCain, to poleaxe Barky so we can get some changes at the DNC – and so we can run Hill in 2012, natch.

  328. Jeralyn:

blue collar working class women? I highly doubt they are. Most of the “working class women” demographic described in the article — important swing voters– are too busy struggling with making ends meet to spend time on blogs.

I guess you write your blog so that the educated middle-upper class can go talk to working class women and explain to them how wrong they are.

But I know you are too busy with your law practice to spend time talking to people who make less than 30K or who do not have college degrees.

  329. pfft screwd uptags. My comment begins at “I guess that..”

Can somebody fix this if possible?

    thx

  330. Well, as I pointed out earlier, California could be a “swing state” if the PUMAs realize their own power. A few months ago this would have been inconceivable.

What could be more encouraging to our daughters than to see a woman as Vice President of the United States and a Clinton-Palin contest in 2012? Maybe then we can have the conversation about idealogy.

  331. Arabella, is it ok now?

  332. I absolutely can not abide double standards Charles. Heehee I know it is so “unladylike” of me. I’d give Pelosi and her crew the vapors because I can and do fight for what I believe ardently. In the military I learned taking no for an answer was a sure way to get nowhere fast. The determined(or stubborn if you like) are the ones who succeed.

  333. apparently at Talkleft you can’t criticize Jeralyn, but you CAN smear the entire american electorate:

    Anecdotal (2.00 / 1) (#4)
by andgarden on Sun Sep 07, 2008 at 12:44:26 PM EST

And honestly, I’d say that the American people are pretty stupid on the whole. They did re-elect W, after all.

Um I didn’t vote for Bush, neither did over half of the country if you include non-voters. that’s a pretty outrageious statement..

  334. katiebird – the post looks fine now! thanks

  335. I submitted this ot digg. If anyone has an account would you please digg it? It’s too good not to get to FP http://tinyurl.com/5krrd5

  336. I think many have missed the point.

I did not say at some point the female brain cannot do Geometry or higher math, I said Neurological Studies have proven that the area of the brain that is responsible for spacial and dimensional recognition matures biologically later than the male brain. It is not a matter of intelligence, it is a matter of biology. And as with everthing, progress happens within a range of time frames. Compare it to potty training and walking and speech – all areas that males and females mature at different rates.

  337. Eleanor A – My mother and my husband just had break through yesterday.

My mother “Lies, all lies. I would cancel my subscription to the NY Times but I like the crossword puzzles. You were right the whole time.”

Husband “All the stuff you told me about Obama is true. Why doesn’t the media cover it. You were right.”

Sigh. One vote at a time

  338. I just saw the Luncheon for Cindy McCain on Thursday. She is a gracious and fantastic woman. I look forward to her being the First Lady if they don’t give us Hillary back for President.

  339. As I mentioned before, I followed the pure math track all the way to a BS in math with honors at the University of Maryland.

The upper level math courses that majors take are pretty far out there stuff, beyond anything I had previously imagined. If there’s anything I could try to get across, it’s that I have found people underestimate this. Everyone has unique talents and some people would be better off throwing their energy into something else. I hate to see someone trying to stick a square peg into a round hole.

HOWEVER, I also hate to see a round peg getting diverted from the round hole because she happens to be female. I strongly believe there are a lot of women who could get math, physics, or engineering degrees, who are missing from the equation because of sexism. Like I said, I lived this experience and there were times I wanted to quit, but I kept thinking, “I’ll show THEM!” My stubbornness trumped their sexism.

It shouldn’t be like that for women.

I was fine spatially – aced geometry from early on.

My big problem was the way math was taught. I was taught mainly by men (exclusively by men in college). For the most part, they didn’t reach me with their teaching style, it was a style that seemed very competitive to me. It was like they were playing a game with the guys in the class, each were trying to impress the other. So I would take lot of notes in class, then go home and teach myself.

My encouragement was only in the grades I got – the sense of achievement I felt by mastering something, and knowing I did it on my own. It’s a strange way of learning and in many ways counterproductive. Not to mention overly difficult.

Anyway, just my two cents from someone who saw this through to a degree in it. I think a lot of this is the way it is taught.

  340. Can we get a new thread started?

This one keeps crashing my browser

  341. DEBUNKED: SARAH PALINS BANNED BOOK LIST:

From a liberal site which asked people not to spread runors because it helps McCain and Palin’s cause…There are more sites debunking this if you Google: Sarah Palin Banned Book list, rumor, factcheck…

Further down the responses is one by Ryan on 9/2/2008 at 10:53 who says –

“The list of banned books is inaccurate. Several of the titles listed above,
most notably the Harry Potter books, had not been published yet in 1996 when
Sarah Palin attempted to fire the librarian.”

Then even further down is the entry by Charlie on 9/3/2008 at 1:49:
“The list cited by “Andrew AuCoin” is not from Sarah Palin. It actually
comes from http://www.adlerbooks.com/banned.html. It’s a compendium of all
books banned anywhere in the United States.

“Folks, we need to keep our eye on the prize here. Every time we pass on
false or inaccurate allegations, we’re helping Sarah Palin (and John McCain)
look better, not worse. Please fact check before you share a rumor.”

Click on that http://www.adlerbooks.com/banned.html link and by golly – exact same
    list!

hmmm…wonder if this list is the case of something when repeated often
enough and everywhere enough by enough people on the net takes on the mantle
    of being true.

  342. Please, new thread.

  343. Woman Voter,

I think you’re correct about the NARAL chapters being unhappy with the national’s decision to endorse Obama. Didn’t know about his relationship with someone at national NARAL but that figures.

BTW, I was proud of the vast majority of Massachusetts Hillary delegates who stuck with her on the roll call vote.

If anyone else lives in MA, please consider voting for Ed O’Reilley against John Kerry in the Democratic primary on 9/16!

  344. Carol, if the research is showing that female spatial visualization (or whatever it is) develops later in girls, when does it catch up to the boys?

I am skeptical of this research (and most research of this type). But if it is true, it would argue for a completely different approach towards math education.

  345. myiq @ 2:57, this is what the Dems never seem to learn how to do.

Oh and the fact that so many of the bloggers are retreating into their usual “blame those stupid voters” hole means they know they have lost.

  346. andrew sullivan and the atlantic are pushing a new smear. that Palin is a hypocrite on family values because he eloped instead of having a “traditional” marriage;

    http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/family-values-u.html

This, coming from a guy who was advertising for bareback partners even though he is HIV positive. Also, in the Palin bio on Fox last night, it said they eloped because her parents couldn’t afford a wedding, and they wanted to spare them that cost…A-N-D-R-E-W! What a tool.

  347. hey conflucian writers can I put up an open thread with a fun picture from the road?

  348. put it up!

  349. OK, folks, hold my hand on this one. I’m watching TV and Shields and David Brooks are debating the candidates with Jim Lehrer and Brooks mentions that one of the first things you’re going to see from McCain is deregulation. Well, I can take a lot of crap, I can ignore the Roe v. Wade stupidity and the SCOTUS bruhaha but deregulation is like Satan’s spawn to me. We all remember the horrors of the savings and loans crisis and the recent economic mess created by the deregulation of usery laws. If McCain follows this path along with his supposed Secretary of the Treasury, Phil Gramm, our financial futures are going to disappear like a weekly paycheck in Vegas.

I’m scared, really scared. I don’t intend to vote for McCain and will be writing in Hillary but I really, really don’t want McCain to get this job and kill my families future.

    Help!

  350. BTW, here’s an article that sums up some of the dangers http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977373777.

  351. Deregulation of what?

The mortgage disaster has already happened. Looks like the government is going to bail out Fannie and Freddie. Some deregulation!

  352. msindy – were you 12 when they put you into Geometry?

  353. Republican Woman,
You know nothing about me. You know nothing about what I have read or what I have studied. I believe your remark resembles you more than it does me.

There are conflicting reports on her style, her motivations, actions , etc. Case in point, this book banning. No one has shown that she did not look into banning books or that she did not try to fire the Librarian. I have seen here and other places that the list of books is not true. But, the underlying premise of her wanting to ban books and fire the Librarian because she didn’t go along with it shows at a minimum, the inclination to abuse her power and intolerance of views. Is this the case? I can’t say for sure, because of the hyperbole flowing from both sides, the real sexist onslaught against Palin and now, her refusal to grant interviews until “she is shown respect and deference”. Excuse me, is that Sarah Palin’s words and actions or the campaign’s?

Here’s another case. I have read that Palin claimed that she followed the advice of her environmental advisers in her decision to oppose the listing of Polar Bears as threatened due to loss of habitat because of Climate Change. But, I have also read direct quotes from one of those advisers that stated the Department supported the nine studies done by the Bush Administration’s USF&WS in placing the Polar Bear as a threatened species. Who to trust? Does she take advice from the scientists when her personal or economic reasons are in conflict with the action? My inclination from this example is a resounding no.

So, I believe I was given Palin the benefit of the doubt because of the whirlwind nature of this campaign season and the “blarnery” being slathered by both sides when I stated that “I don’t know anything about how she would govern, her political style, her willingness to work with Democrats and others and on and on.”

This also very true on the National scene, since this is her first national exposure. Unfortunately, with the Republican gambit of stonewalling, and we only have less than 90 days before the election, I don’t think that we will get a clear picture. Best bet is the VP debate, but, depends on how that is run and what questions are asked.

There are many more examples to demonstrate but this post is already too long. Suffice to say, I do my homework and that is why I am not supporting Obama and the National Democrats. I will continue to do my homework on Palin, and make the best and most informed decision that I can. My premise is that I am unwilling to either jump on a bandwagon for someone nor am I willing to dismiss someone before I have the information to make the decision. FWIW, I have defended Palin to my Democratic friends and colleagues on Trooper Gate, contraceptives, and sexist attacks. This also hasn’t won me any brownie points.

  354. If he screws it up too badly elixir we won’t have to worry too much in 2012. He can finish off the ridiculous idea that deregulation is a good thing. Personally, the way Goolsbee drools over the free market and the One was out there chiding Democrats for regulation(yes he did) I’m not too sure that you were going to get your wish for a hands on government anyway.

  355. Joanelle, on September 7th, 2008 at 1:04 pm Said:

So what position do you think McCain will give Hill?

    ___________________________

Probably whichever one she wants. If I recall, he and James Carville are friends.

  356. It looks like the article is referring to deregulation of the insurance and the healthcare industries. Check for yourself and tell me I’m wrong. I certainly don’t want to believe this thing.

  357. Cwaltz, Who’s Goolsbee? Well, if BO and JM are both ready to satisfy the corporate need for deregulation, I’m all set.

  358. fif:

Could you please not link t that piece of DNA waste here. He can summarize whatever garbage he’s spewing and that’s puke-inducing enough.

  359. Goolsbee is his chief economist. I’ll see if I can find you the article where Obama chides Democrats on regulation.

  360. Jeralyn is one of those “blarney” slatherers. She definitely went the Obama followers way with the Ebay , National Enquirer, poll on when Palin would drop out, etc. etc. This is over the top and certainly is not good for Obama – BTD does recognize that and comments on it.

  361. Are we sure that Barky did not register?

  362. Deregulation of what? What’s left to deregulate?

  363. MassLib,

Healthcare and insurance industries. I’m asking for your opinions, I certainly don’t want to get in a dither over this.

  364. Insurance is already deregulated. Hmmm.

  365. http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/8/21/143831/580

You might want to take a gander at Mr. Market solutions elixir. He wasn’t keen on regulation before he became for it. Not surprising. I don’t think Barack Obama ever met a flip or flop he did not like.

  366. Alexei, you are correct, I don’t know you; however your post stated I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know and I don’t care to look into it.

I will apologize for saying you want to be spoonfed.

How can you form a reasonable, intelligent debate on something if you don’t have a good grasp of what the other positions are? Yes, there are a lot of rah, rah posts and a lot of blatent lies out there. About all of the candidates. I wasn’t offended by a picture of BO in muslim garb – it’s important to know your audience, you don’t wear a tuxedo to a picnic kind of stuff.

From your later post you state you are more interested in getting issues legislated and I think that’s wonderful, I’m guessing you have lots of experience in dealing with the legislative branch of government. Governors (like Presidents and VP) cannot make the law. They also can’t press that button, there’s a whole lot of hoops that have to be jumped through. They can make fatal mistakes like refuse to put more troops in an area to stop the violence because they’re afraid of losing an election. Yes, I do believe had we addressed it in the very beginning, thousands of lives would have been saved and we would probably have most of them home – but we won’t know because it didn’t happen.

People like you either make the law through ballot initiatives or through legislative lobbying and I’m sure you know your issues well. I too support gay marriage and encourage my candidates to drop the man/woman religious hype out of their platform and while some of them agree, their constituents currently do not; I too support environmental protections, so long as it doesn’t violate my constitutional rights – I just about fell out my seat when my governor, in an effort to shore up his clean coal plan, said solar energy is great, but the sun only shines 12 hours a day. It’s about educating the candidates and/or current politicians, but it’s also about educating the public, which is the hardest part because people don’t want to be bothered with the research, we want the cliff notes and the sound bites.

I don’t know the position on polar bears and I don’t know how the impact that putting polar bears on an endangered species list would affect the residents of Alaska either – her job is to do what is best for the people of Alaska and represent them, not lobbyists, not activists. It’s up to Congress and Senate to pass those laws, the Governor’s only input is opinion and it wouldn’t really matter what that opinion is if becomes law.

  367. After reading this post by Riverdaughter, I happened to hear the song, “Just A Girl” by No Doubt. If any PUMAs out there have a talent for making music videos, this song combined with photos of Hillary, Sarah and others being slammed by the good ol’ boy (and girl) Dem party would be most fitting for YouTube!! It’s a catchy tune. Any takers?!

    Just a Girl
    (G. Stefani, T. Dumont)
from the No Doubt album Tragic Kingdom, 1995
Knock Yourself Out Music / Universal-MCA Music Publishing (ASCAP)

Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I’m exposed and it’s no big surprise
Don’t you think I know exactly where I stand
This world is forcing me to hold your hand

‘Cause I’m just a girl, little ol’ me
Don’t let me out of your sight
I’m just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don’t let me have any rights
Oh…I’ve had it up to here

The moment that I step outside
So many reasons for me to run and hide
I can’t do the little things I hold so dear
‘Cause it’s all those little things that I fear

‘Cause I’m just a girl, I’d rather not be
‘Cause they won’t let me drive late at night
I’m just a girl, guess I’m some kind of freak
‘Cause they all sit and stare with their eyes
I’m just a girl, take a good look at me
    Just your typical prototype
Oh…I’ve had it up to here
    Oh…am I making myself clear?

    I’m just a girl
    I’m just a girl in the world…
That’s all that you’ll let me be

I’m just a girl living in captivity
Your rule of thumb makes me worry some
    I’m just a girl, what’s my destiny?
What I’ve succumbed to is making me numb
I’m just a girl, my apologies
What I’ve become is so burdensome
I’m just a girl, lucky me
    Twiddle-dum, there’s no comparison

Oh…I’ve had it up to …
Oh…I’ve had it up to …
Oh…I’ve had it up to here

  368. Alexei, as far as where and who SP speaks to, it is the complete control of the campaign. They can’t control what she says, but they absolutely will control her entire schedule. The monkey wrench will be her children, professional handlers are not used to dealing with a mother’s instinct. It will be interesting.

  369. Threats about Roe v Wade are sickening. This to me was my defining moment of realizing that BO was a slimy liar:

    http://www.reclusiveleftist.com/?p=845

Not only did he have no prob with John Roberts, he 1) only opposed him when he gauged the political winds of careerism and 2) bragged about it on his website.

Caring about women’s right (way beyond abortion) means I’m done enabling the Democratic party in general. When they start to freaking stand for something, they may win me back.

  370. citizen70 — I’m from Mass and I was pretty proud of the number of delegates that stuck with Hillary. From the few numbers that have been released, I think Mass. had the highest number of Clinton delegates (of course, there are still a lot of states we dont’ know about, like California).

I’m already voting for Ed. Can’t wait in fact.

Do you know if there’s a list or info anywhere on which Mass. delegates stuck with her? I’ve been looking for names because I want to remember who was a stand-up person and who not.

  371. Carol

With all due respect, all the ‘studies’ about girls’ brains vs. boys’ brains are just pop psych. The differences between any two randomly selected women (men) have been proven to be far greater than the difference between the average man and the average woman.

After Men are from Mars…came out, I spent Months arguing with people who should’ve known better than to take such stuff at face value.

  372. Valhalla, on September 7th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

It has been impossible so far to get state parties or the DNC to release info about particular delegates and how they voted at the fake roll call. The bravery of those who stuck to their guns is just that: real courage that demands our respect.

As for Ed O’Reilly, I hope you all checked out the debate at http://wbztv.com/video/?cid=9

    Cheers,
    Heidi Li

  373. No it’s definitely not a game of horseshoes; more like a crock of horseSHIT.

    Just like everything else Obaman.
