Ruh-Roh, There goes the collaboration

Obama was looking for a long term relationship with Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick:

Er, except Kilpatrick resigned yesterday for allegedly breaking three Michigan laws.

Guilt by association would be so much easier to brush off your shoulder if it hadn’t been for that miscarriage of justice that was the Demcratic National Convention last week…

What do they say about fair weather friends?  Obama hurries to distance himself.

That could explain why Obama has worked so hard lately to stiff-arm the mayor he once embraced. First, he asked him to stay away from the Democratic National Convention-which was no problem, since the mayor was wearing an electronic tether at the time and had been ordered by a judge not to travel beyond metropolitan Detroit. Then on Wednesday evening, a few hours after the prosecutor announced Kilpatrick was copping a plea, Obama issued a statement saying, “It is time for the mayor to step aside so that the city can move forward.”

Ahh, there’s the Obama we all know and love.   It must suck to get incoming from the Republicans AND voters in your own base.  Do you think this experience will make him empathize with what Hillary went through?  Nah, I didn’t think so either.

  1. This must be just another “friend” whom he did not know as well as he thought.

  2. Nice lyrics:

    See the stop-light turn-in’ red,
Don’t you listen to what it’s said.
All the things you try to hide,
They keep you runnin’ hard inside.

Oh, you got to leave this town before it’s…
too late, too late, too late, too late, too late,
too late to make the change.

Ooh, yes, my friend, you’re fadin’ fast, if you stay here you won’t last.
Before your time has run astray, you’ve got to try to get away.
Oh, you got to leave this place before it’s…
too late, too late, too late, too late, too late,
too late to make the change.
too late, too late to make the change
too late to make the change

Yes, it’s time to make the change, yes, it’s time to rearrange,
So, my friend, I join the fight for the things you know are right.
Oh, you got to leave this town before it’s…
too late, too late, too late, too late, too late,
too late to make the change.
too late, too late to make the change
too late, too late, to make the change
too late to make the change
too late, before it’s too late.

  3. Good afternoon, RD!

Obama is nothing if not predictable, eh? Soon it will be “I barely knew him. Kwame who?”

Meanwhile, it’s my birthday today, but so far it has not been too happy. My dad is in the hospital after a TIA. They think he’s okay but are doing a bunch of tests to make sure. Please send along a good vibe or two if you’re so inclined! 🙂

  4. madamab, May you get all your wishes fulfilled today. Vibes sent.

  5. Will this make him empathize with Hillary? He’ll never be hit as hard as Hillary. There was already an “Impeach Hillary” group up and ready to go. The press will never turn on him the way they did her.

From what he and Michelle said during the primaries, I think they both thought Hillary should be hit, that she deserved it with her “tone” and “policies”.

He tarnished Bill’s record (even on the economy), and today I read that he’s praising Bill’s record.

The word slick is too good for him. Opportunist, slimeball. . . the list is long.

  6. I know Detroit is breathing a sigh of relief. Kilpatrick was a joke from day one.

  7. Madamab – white light and kind thoughts and prayers to your father.

  8. Another one bites the dust.
Does backtrack hang with anyone who is not a crook or anti-american?

    Happy Birthday//
    Prayers for your father.

mine is next Friday and my youngest granddaughter’s is on Thursday..
She was born on grandparents day the day before my birthday.
The joke in our family my daughter did this to get out of buying two presents.

    Jmac –

From what he and Michelle said during the primaries, I think they both thought Hillary should be hit, that she deserved it with her “tone” and “policies”.

Dead-on. How DARE she point out the paucity of their rhetoric and the transparency of their intentions?

  10. Ah, helen, a fellow Virgo! Woo-hoo! Many early happy returns to you. 🙂

  11. madamab, I’ve had TIAs — they suck, and they’re scary as hell. They are also a gift from the universe, because most people do not get advance warning of strokes. They just get nailed by them. A few of us are lucky enough to get a warning shot and take measures in response. Give him my kind thoughts.

  12. Madamab
    Thank you.
    Your plays always delight me.
We Virgo’s do get our point across one way or another.

  13. Idiot!!! Obama takes on Sarah-cuda in Indiana:

““I know the governor of Alaska has been, you know, saying she is change,” Obama said at a town hall meeting here. “And that is great. She is a skillful politician. But when you [have] been taking all these earmarks when it is convenient and then suddenly you are the champion anti-earmark person.

“That is not change, come on,” Obama continued. “I mean, words mean something. You can’t just make stuff up. You can’t just make stuff up. We have a choice to make and the choice is clear.”

    Uh…Irony??? Barky!!

  14. Helen – Yes, we do! 🙂

Thanks Janis – that’s how I’m trying to look at it. Thank goodness my stepmom was there with him and knew what was happening. 🙂

    SHV – Oh my GAWD.

    Truly, you cannot fix stupid.

  15. That’s not change, come on”. Reminds me of the P Diddy tape – Alaska? Alaska? What the . . . Alaska?

  16. Why is Obama going after Palin? His opponent is McCain. If I have to hear again that Obama is or has run a great campaign I’ll scream.

  17. gqmartinez – Because, v*gin*!!! His stupid little attempts at character assassination have not gone over so well when the media refuses to pile on his target (a la McCain). So, he’s trying to go after the “weaker” link on the team, knowing that the media’s misogyny will work in his favor.

He really is a true slimebucket.

  18. SHV, that quote makes Obama sound so childish. And apparently, politicians CAN just make stuff up. Remember when Obama claimed that he the Banking Committee was his committee? He just made that up and never got called on it.

ggmartinez, good point, why is he running against Palin? She got under his skin….heh.

  19. OT..Greta is doing a one hour special on Sarah-cuda …FOX (yuk) 8:00PM ET.

  20. madamb, best wishes to your dad!

  21. madamab,
My grandfather spent two days in the hospital after a TIA two months ago; he was fine a week later and today they’re celebrating their 63d anniversary.
    Good vibes sent.

  22. madamab, Happy Birthday, and prayers going out for your dad.

  23. He should be talking policy, policy, policy. He apparently is still going before small groups telling them that yes, he’s different and – they’re going to tell you I’m a Muslim. At least he seems to have dropped the – they’re going to tell you I’m black. That’s a step in the right direction.

McCain is smart to keep Palin under wraps. No Sunday talk shows. Cancelled Larry King. She’s probably deep in study sessions.

  24. Thanks so much, everyone! I am feeling so much better after hearing your kind wishes and thoughts.

Must run now, and it looks like Sheri Tag is going to be cranking up that bus a little higher tomorrow night! Welcome, ex-Mayor Kilpatrick!

  25. Must read:
Kelly Jean Cogswell’s hard-hitting columns in New York’s Gay City News (a publication that editorially endorsed Obama):

    Hail, McCain
    http://gaycitynews.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=20106063&BRD=2729&PAG=461&dept_id=569476&rfi=6

For past Cogswell columns on DNC mysogyny, Hillary, Obama:

  26. The Sarah-cuda is taking the “Precious” apart..one bite at a time…In Cedarburg WI:

“McCain advisers also drew attention to statements Obama made in a Fox News Channel interview broadcast Thursday night acknowledging the success of the administration’s troop “surge” strategy in Iraq, but claiming that few had foreseen it.

“I guess when you turn out to be profoundly wrong on a vital national-security issue, maybe it’s comforting to pretend that everyone else was wrong, too,” Palin said in Cedarburg.”

  27. Could someone get me out of moderation the previous thread (Getting Down to Business)?

  28. I missed Obama’s melt-down; but I caught the “ANGRY-MAN”,
    Joe Biden.
Did anyone see the McCain/Palin rally??!!
Loads of people…tons of excitement…..Oh and AMERICAN FLAGS….”RESCUED” from the democratic convention’s TRASH!!!
Can’t wait to see the side by side of “Obama’s plane” with
the American flag erased & Palin’s Alaska Plane on “E-BAY”!
    LOL

  29. Madamab,

Happy Birthday. I hope your dad is OK. I suspect it’s not serious. If he has high blood pressure, he might need some treatment for that. Please do let us know when you hear any news.

  30. Happy Birthday MadamaB!

    Best wishes go to you.

  31. As for earmarks, Obama didn’t want to reveal his own early ones, did he–the ones that benefited Michelle’s employers and Rezko? People who live in glass houses….

  32. Happy birthday, madamab, and best wishes for your father.

    From another Virgo–the 13th

  33. What Obama melt down?

  34. For anyone capable of stomaching it:

    Newsweek:

Patti Davis has written an open letter to Hillary asking her were “have you been” while the bogey man Sarah is trying to get us.

    Pathetic.

Poor Barky. His mother left him, his grandma was “typical”, his sister is kin to that “guy in a hut in Kenya”, his white girlfriend can’t be located, Nancy and Donna set him up for a bruising, MO hates his white heritage, Hillary knocked him on the ground, and Sarah is finishing him off!

My friend always said when you have more than 2 concurring opinions, take a hint!

    PUMA HAKA 👿

  35. Maybe he’ll get so flustered with the press and Palin, he’ll do another hip-hop, brush and scratch routine.

  36. Obama is having snit fits all over. “But…but…I am TEH CHANGE, dammit! How dare she stride onto the national scene with a historic candidacy and a record of changing things! IMPOSTER! I am the change, not her! Me me me me me!

Oh, and the Dems are now claiming that the flags were not trashed, but had been set aside for reuse, and were STOLEN by those dastardly Republicans!

The only problem is, there are pictures of everything from soda cans to crumpled banners in those bags with the flags.

That just reminded me of the 1+ million dollar earmark for the Chicago hospital where Michelle works…IIRC her salary doubles and the hospital gets an earmark.

  38. WMCB – there is irrefutable evidence that the flags were trashed – there are Barky signs in the bags!

How about if we start “PHONE-BANKING” for Ed O’Reilly,
Cindy S. and any other race we wish to impact??!!
I guess it would have to go through each campaign or a
    “PAC” like Murphy’s??!!

  40. I’m sure the BO earmarks vs. Palin earmarks are going to make a pretty compelling video.

  41. SHV, someone posted somewhere what the federal funds went to that Sarah accepted as mayor

It was all needed infrastructure, a homeless youth shelter, stuff like that.

  42. Carol, you can se empty drink cans and stuff in one of the bags as well.

“But, we were gonna REUSE that chewed bubblegum, honest!”

  43. I find it very hypocritical that people who fought for their vote to be heard are now leading a campaign that includes not voting. I have to say that is very poor leadership.

All earmarks aren’t corrupt or bad. I do think, however, that all money should go through an open appropriation process.

  45. All lobbyist’s are not bad either as Hillary and Bill said. They are informed and can bring information regarding the issues. The payoff’s is what needs to be fixed.

  46. Carol, my vote is sacred, and I have always taken it to be my highest civic duty to use it. I will not be forced to not vote by anyone. I will vote. And that means that whatever the options are, I will choose the one that I feel best serves this country. The only thing I know for certain is that I will never vote for Obama.

Lets not jump down each others throats on this.

  51. Another Virgo checking in (Labor Day this year)!

Happy Birthday and healing vibes all rolled into one.

As for Kilpatrick… you think he believed that the Chicago Machine would save him up there in Detroit?

  52. Hmm, I was perusing TM, and left a comment that has had no follow-up. It was directed at a commenter I respect. Her comment, then mine:

Jane, I’ve long had great respect for you and your reasoning. I have this question, if

    twainwalker | 09.06.2008 – 3:37 pm |

  53. Happy Birthday, Madamab! Today is my niece’s seventeenth and my best friend’s fifty second.
    Wonderful people, all.
Sending good thoughts along to your dad.

  54. Good question, purplefinn. Did you get an answer?

  55. SweetSue, not yet. She is someone i respect. Perhaps she left the computer. I’ll check back later.

Surely no one would admit to merely judging female candidates according the “Hillary standard.” 🙂

  56. madamab – Happy Birthday and prayers for your father.

    You’re right – you can’t fix stupid

gqmartinez – I don’t think he knows he’s running against McCain – he’s so rattled by the Palin nomination he doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going.

  57. They totally lied about the convention being Green. That really makes me angry. Not only were flags thrown away, but lots of recyclaables! Surely, Denver has recycling capabilities. There is nothing they won’t lie about these days. They are going to be the party that focuses on saving the planet, blah, blah, blah yet they can’t even be bothered to recycle? Yeah, okay.

  58. madamab-Birthdays can be a bummer but they’re better than the alternative! Hope you have a great day. Healing wishes to you dad, too.

I haven’t been there for months…I sent a fair amount of support to TM..very bad judgment on my part..

Does the answer to you question have anything to do with the rot and corruption at the heart of the democratic Party??

  62. Barky says you can’t just make stuff up? Hilarious! Everything he says is fiction.

  63. Happy Birthday madamab! And I am sending all good wishes and vibes you father’s way.

Sounds like the Sarah-Cuda is getting on Obama’s last nerve. Guess he thought he was the only “Rock Star” in town. Fickle media just moves on to the next new “thing”.

I also wonder if it isn’t a considerable mistake for Obama to keep running against McCain’s VP choice. Shouldn’t he be running against the top of the ticket and let Biden tackle Governor Palin? Doesn’t this make Obama look more Vice-Presidential than Presidential?

And I agree with everyone that says they intend to vote no matter what. I always vote. I won’t vote for Obama but there are several good Democrats that I want to support and a couple I want to vote against. Voting has always been a civic duty to me and I believe it also gives me the right to complain; long, loud and often. IMHO if ya don’t vote, then you have abdicated that right. Just saying…

I haven’t figured out exactly how that works but I think in just a few days, Sarah has driven Barky to that point.

You know why Kathleen Sebelius is never going to rise? Because she is a-ok with being an Obama lap dog, who trots out to bark on Axelrod’s command.

  71. Afternoon check-in Conflucians.

    Love the “Gary HAKA!” lol.

“That is not change, come on,” Obama continued. “I mean, words mean something. You can’t just make stuff up. You can’t just make stuff up. We have a choice to make and the choice is clear.”

ok, someone remind me again why ANYONE would vote for this maroon…

Happy b-day and best wishes to your dad Madamab!

At my local java stop today, I bumped into a guy I know from the area. He thought Palin was a “mean bitch,” and McCain’s speech was like a Nazi propaganda film ending with “Fight! Fight! Fight!” He said, “warmonger.” It struck me that we all see things through our own filters. I heard McCain emphasize peace and thought the “Fight” rally was for government reform and recovering the nation.

Lastly, as far as informed voters and people making up their minds: my sister’s friend in Boston watched Palin and when she heard the “pit bull with lipstick” line she said, “That’s when I decided not to vote for her–too campy.”

Alrighty then, makes me feel so safe to know voters are really thinking deeply about the issues.

  72. p.s. the coffee shop guy also immediately mentioned the Anne whoever letter about Palin that is circulating. It’s obviously gone viral.

  73. BTW, though she was raised Pentecostal, her family left that church some years ago and joined a non-denominational church because they felt it was getting too weird for them.

Yes, she is an evangelical, and yes she was raised as a holy roller. But she deliberately made a choice to back away from the crazies.

The way the left is painting her as some wild-eyed snake handler theocracy-craving dominionist is just bunk.

  74. Just as Britney Spears is getting healthy and back to work (that must make KO and others really sad) her stupid mother comes out and tells everyone that Britney lost her Virginity at 14 (now KO and others are really happy again).

Note to Caylee – see, there’s more than one way for your mother to kill you!

““If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns” (I can here the condescension in his voice..Idiot!!)

If Gov Palin has gotten to him this badly in two days, I am seriously beginning to think that he will have a major psych. breakdown before Nov. 4.

  76. From the NY Times – Obama on Friday said:

“I hope you guys are up for a fight. I hope you guys are game because I haven’t been putting up with 19 months of airplanes and hotel food and missing my babies and my wife – I didn’t put up for that stuff just to come in second,” he said. “I don’t believe in coming in second.

  78. Newsweek:
Patti Davis has written an open letter to Hillary asking her were “have you been” while the bogey man Sarah is trying to get us.

I have a question: WHERE was Patti Davis when Obama, the media, and the DNC were treating her like garbage? I don’t remember any outcry from Patti David or anyone else who is now demanding that Hillary rescue Pampers. I am so OVER this ridiculous charade.

  79. “I don’t believe in coming in second.”

As long as everyone else does the work for him. Talk about entitlement. One year in the Senate a 19 months on the road, and he demands the most powerful job in the world.

BTW: Palin brings the knife AND the gun.

  80. I thought one ran for president because of a desire to serve one’s countryman. he makes it sound like a boxing match. disgusting.

  86. oh pat you are so funny and sooo right

  90. Carol said: I find it very hypocritical that people who fought for their vote to be heard are now leading a campaign that includes not voting.

Do you mean me? I’m contemplating leaving the top line blank. Just as I don’t want to be complicit in the election of BO, I don’t want to give my vote to the folks that helped Donna help BO do what he did either. I might vote third party, I might not…I don’t know any of those candidates well and am afraid that if I research them, I’ll be disappointed as well.

Anyway, I think it’s more ironic than hypocritical. Maybe even torturous or cursed.

  91. I have been coming here to read other view-points on the up coming election. I enjoy the give and take on views, over the last few days I have even been moved to tears (in a macho way of course lol) over some of the beautiful dialogue on Sarah and her family.

    God Bless You All….

  92. Happy Birthday, madamab, from another Virgo. Mine is the 15th. I hope your father is feeling better…my ex worried about TIA when we first were married, and he will be 80 next month, 22 years later. It is frightening but one can improve and go on for decades.

  93. O/T but on this Caylee stuff..
I haven’t watched any of it.. I hate these aggrandized horror stories dressed up for populace feeding.
But trying to check up on the news re Odope et al,
I came across a bit of it. So from what I can tell the media has proclaimed this mother guilty (to all purposes) and the mother has been released on bail.
Is the media just trying to get this woman killed?
The media stirs hate and disinformation like their very soul depends on it (note to media: you’ve proven time and again that you have no soul).
It’s what I’ve notice before: the media is disgusting.
Of course they covered the primaries like they did.
It’s exactly who they are every day.
    Scum.

  94. “This 21st century man has an aura of hope wrapped around him.”

That might not be hope that’s wrapped around him. Whatever it is, it seems to be unravelling.

  95. I hope you guys are up for a fight. I hope you guys are game because I haven’t been putting up with 19 months of airplanes and hotel food and missing my babies and my wife – I didn’t put up for that stuff just to come in second,” he said. “I don’t believe in coming in second.

WHAT??? what FAVOR is he doing us by running for POTUS ??? Can he GET more condescending ??

Of course he can all i have to do is wait for what he says tomorrow LOL

Hillary was energised by meeting people and sharing their stories she GLOWED

…but he is whining … GODDESS WHAT A WHINER he IS cant we throw him back to the store where he was found shopping for arugula ???

  96. Rocky Mountain Colorado:

“The GOP ticket, making its debut in the West, draws a monster crowd into a Colorado Springs airport hangar.

The campaign had 15,000 RSVPs, and 10,000 have already gone through Secret Service as the rally gets underway on a gorgeous Rocky Mountain day.”

  97. swanspirit, his sense of entitlement is breathtaking. Gobsmacking and jawdropping. And he, like most narcissists, would be genuinely puzzled if you tried to explain it to him.

  99. Who was he talking to when he said that? I hope you guys are up for a fight. blah, blah, blah?

  100. Silver was good enough for our Athletes. And, might I add, they actually had talent!

  101. madamab!

Happy birthday to a real sptifire and a happy presence in the blogosphere!

My father had a TIA episode on New Year’s Eve a month after my mom died. It was a scary, stressful time. That was almost four years ago, and he’s been fine ever since. Hope and best wishes for your dad.

  102. Count me as one Detroiter who is doing a figurative happy dance that Kilpatrick is finally out. (I’d be doing a literal one but my knees just aren’t up to it.)

Kilpatrick was up to his politically grimy elbows in the Michigan vote shenanigans, especially the pushing of the “uncommitted” votes as Obama’s. Seeing him get thrown under Obama’s bus amuses me to no end.

Kilpatrick was an inept mayor. Most of what he’s taken credit for was set-up by his predecessor. (Gee, sounds familiar.) I pegged him as a George W. Bush type, with a politically prominent family that paved his way and an outsize sense of entitlement.

Kilpatrick’s homophobia was the final straw. He actually stated on a black religious radio program that he wouldn’t allow his three sons to be taught by a gay teacher. Whether he was simply pandering or not (and I’m inclined to think not), that type of bigotry costs gay people jobs and often gets them beaten.

I wasn’t surprised in the least when his indiscretions were revealed. Gay-baiting politicians always seem to prove to be moral scumbags – the only question is whether their lovers are opposite or same sex.

Sorry for the long comment, but at least it’s on topic.

  103. Kissinger on McCain and Palin and indirectly on bo

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,417404,00.html

CAVUTO: Now, what Barack Obama is saying is that Iran and potentially having nuclear weapons is a game-changer. What do you make of that?

KISSINGER: Well, I don’t — the phrase game-changer isn’t so clear to me.

What it means is, nuclear weapons in Iran will change the international situation fundamentally. It means that proliferation is likely to be unchecked after that, that there would be many more countries that have nuclear weapons that might be used against each other and against us, and that terrorists might be protected by countries that have nuclear weapons. That is the fundamental change that comes about.

So, therefore, what America needs to do is to determine, together with its allies, if at all possible, when the point of no — when the point of no return is reached, secondly, what non-military measures can be taken to induce Iran to enter a meaningful negotiation, and, third, then to face the question of what other means have to be used.

So, the — the problem has to be broken down into its components, before one understand what needs to be done.

CAVUTO: Let me ask you, Secretary. There has been some — in fact, great deal of criticism about Governor Palin, that she has virtually no foreign policy experience. And, God forbid, something should happen to a President McCain, if we had something like that, she would be — she would be lost. What do you make of that criticism?

KISSINGER: Well, first of all, she would not be lost because she has a big — there is a big supporting machinery available once you are president of the United States.

And you can also say that Harry Truman had no experience in foreign policy when he became president, and he turned out one of our great foreign policy presidents.

CAVUTO: So, you think that this issue of experience is overstated?

KISSINGER: No, I think, actually, the issue of experience is extremely important. But I would start it at the head of the ticket.

    CAVUTO: OK.

Real quickly, then, the — John McCain got a new sort of lease on political life, certainly in the polls, after the Russia-Georgia situation and his very stern response. Barack Obama was criticized for being a little too middle-ground.

Is it your sense that this ticket would have a much more aggressive foreign policy than the Obama/Biden ticket?

KISSINGER: I don’t think aggressive is the right word.

I think that John McCain, whom I have known for 30 years, would be a stern defender of the American national interest, and that he would identify the American national interest with a protection of the state system as it now exists.

I also believe that John McCain would then, at the same time, look for a means of improving the international climate, so that these crisis situations would not arise. And I would expect, based on long experience with Senator McCain, that he would pursue both policies simultaneously.

It’s not — and he made a major speech in Denver in which he laid that out, which is — of course, the positive part gets more complicated and longer than the thing you can express in slogans. So, that is what I expect and am reasonably certain…

    CAVUTO: All right.

KISSINGER: … we will see from a President McCain.

CAVUTO: All right, Secretary Kissinger, always good seeing you. Thank you very much.

    KISSINGER: Good to see you.

    CAVUTO: Be well. All right.

Happy birthday, madamab. You are a Virgo and a virago and I mean that as high praise.

Your dad is in my prayers. TIA’s are very scary. The good news is that he can get treatment to prevent a stroke. He will live a long and happy life.

  114. SAMPLE LETTER TO B.O. for OBOTS
Apologising for causing him inconvenience while running for POTUS

    Dear Mr B.O.
Please let me apologise for the people of the USA for inconveniencing you in so far as you having to put up with any incommodity or discomfort in your personal journey while campaigning for president .of the USA
While I realise while it a big job , if you can please try and keep foremost in your mind the goal of sitting in the chair in the oval office , It might offset some of the more distasteful aspects of what you are experiencing .
While I realise that your 19 months of inconvenience is a tribulation incomparable to what most people would put up with , and that comparing the years of being tortured while being held as a POW by your opponent would be comparing apples and oranges and well heck lets throw in potatoes and mangos …. I simply wish to convey our most deep and sincere apologies for your egregious discomfort.

For Obots all across America to sign and mail in to make b.o. feel better

He has no idea what’s about to come down the pike. The Republicans don’t play nice like Hillary.

You seem to have picked up Obama’s habit of word fogs to disguise the truth that is as plain as the nose on your face – he is UNFIT to be president, dangerously weak and egotistical, and got to where he is by entirely undemocratic and coercive means.

    All the rest is gravy.

  141. I remember how he was bored with the primaries–compared it to the Bataan Death March too. 171. Fox News: (pay close attention to the McCain response at the end)

Democrats are not caring for their Stars and Stripes. At least that’s the message out of John McCain’s campaign.

McCain supporters, claiming they rescued 12,000 miniature American flags from the site of Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday, redistributed the orphan flags to audience members ahead of a McCain rally in Colorado Springs on Saturday.

The move was an overt swipe at Obama from a campaign whose motto has been “country first.” But Democratic convention organizers claimed the flags were not going to be discarded — but instead were snatched from the site of Obama’s historic address to carry out a “cheap political stunt.”

McCain supporters said the flags were discovered by a vendor at Denver’s Invesco Field after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention. The vendor supposedly found trash bags full of flags in and near garbage bins, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.

Boy Scouts were sorting through 84 bags of flags in Colorado on Saturday, before a McCain supporter had veterans distribute them to the audience.

“We want to find good homes for these flags,” radio host Dan Caplis said at the rally, adding that whatever flags remained would be placed at memorials throughout Colorado.

Audience members, who booed when Caplis announced that the flags were left in Denver, waved the flags and chanted “U.S.A” before McCain arrived at the rally with his running mate, Sarah Palin.

Damon Jones, spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee, released a statement saying McCain should applaud the fact that thousands of American flags were “proudly waved” at their convention.

“But instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play out a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism,” he said.

Obama has faced attacks on his patriotism since the beginning of the Democratic primary race and has set up a Web site specifically designed to fight such charges.

The McCain campaign has denied questioning Obama’s patriotism, and even released a statement Friday calling Obama’s most recent comments on the matter “hysterical.”

  172. Dear Barack:

I really appreciate your having to sleep in all those five star hotels with their interior gyms and having to eat all that food from room service. It can be such a drag! And I know you are doing this all for me.

I only mention this since I can certainly appreciate “sacrifice” as I was one of your constituents in Chicago and froze my ass off during the winters due to the lack of heat. It made it twice as difficult to “scrounge” for food each day, out in the cold with no mittens or boots! And those meals! God, try eating them cold since we did not have the benefit of the utilities your promised to rehab but did not have the time to get around to because you were busy elsewhere.

So yes, I do know what you are talking about with regard to sacrifice. But tell, me WHO THE HELL WAS HOLDING THE FREAKEN GUN TO YOUR HEAD IN THE FIRST PLACE????

Barack, come on home dude. I see another winter approaching and I don’t know how much longer I can hold out. We have so much in common and we can swap tales of the “road”. The one you were so intent on traveling and the one that is sure to become my next address. Just saying.

  178. katiebird – GO! It will be so much fun!

Also, I’m sure Palin is very disturbed about the invite. Probably more like “hysterical”!

  179. The cable guy just left after having waited since 8am. But at least I will be able to watch one of the best movies ever made at 8pm, “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

This fictional movie touches on all things beautiful. A lone man who stood up to injustice, a lovely portrayal of a parent with his children, the insidiousness of rac*ism. It saddens me that this altruism is completely missing today. Atticus Finch was a hero of fiction but his idealism applies.

  180. Greta is doing her report on Palin at 8pm Eastern.

  181. Oh, I just remembered I’m supposed to meet my mom and her best friend for lunch at 11:30 Monday. There’s no way to do both. And they would DIE if I postponed lunch to see McCain.

Don’t you think he’ll probably be in the Kansas City area again?

  182. katiebird: More than likely.

  183. Pat, I think Atticus would have supported Barack this year. (sadly)

  184. katiebird: Atticus would have never approved of rigged elections and candidates who were unqualified to be C in C. He had principles and he defended them. This is why he will always be a heroic figure. He refused to go along with the crowd. He would have been a PUMA!

  185. Madamab,

Happy birthday from another virgo (mine’s on the 10th).

Glad to hear that your dad seems to be out of the woods.

  186. I don’t know Pat, I’ve been so seriously let down by former heroes this year. I’d LIKE to agree with you. But this year? I’d have to here Atticus say it himself.

  187. Atticus would be for McCain/Palin. He is about Principles and Honor.

  188. madamab, best wishes. I hope you dad gets well soon.

I just looked at the photos of all those flags from the DNC in the trash. Have these people completely lost their minds? First. His Highness paints over the flag on his jet with his faux presidential seal and now this? Unbelievable! Remember when Bobby Kennedy rushed forward to prevent a flag from touching the ground? What am I thinking–most of you probably weren’t born then.

Anybody want to question BO’s patriotism? I’ve got news for you, Barack Obama. We don’t throw our country’s flag out with the garbage. And we don’t crown kings. We elect public servants.

What a pompous horse’s ass! And that is an insult to horses.

  189. Pat, it’s one of my favorite movies and favorite books.

When people ask me what is the best compliment I have ever received in my life, I say it was the day a dear friend told me that I reminded her of Scout all grown up (I’m southern). I cried. It remains one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me, though I don’t think I quite measure up to it.

Oh, and I have always been hot for Atticus,, as well as Mr. Darcy, just from the books, never mind the movies.

  190. All the Texas people NEED to go see Hillary in Houston. I plan to be there and you will know me by the pool of drool on the floor. My mother will be the woman who looks like me standing not too far–but not too close either–away pretending she doesn’t know me while Hillary looks on in concern.

  191. katiebird, by all means go if you can! And bring a sign. Tell ’em what you think!

    Lovin’ it…

  192. Someone gave me a small Cloth Flag Pin right after 9/11. It has it’s place on Honor in my home.

  193. my brother named my nephew atticus because of the book.

  194. Reg is she coming to DFW?

  195. Carol: She’ll be here for Sheila Jackson-Lee on the 21st! She’s coming to Houston.

  196. Dave, It’ll have to be another visit. I forgot I’ve got another commitment on Monday.

  197. On the Flags?

I think the MOST shocking thing is that so many of the people in the stands just threw their flags on the floor when the show was over. Wouldn’t you have saved yours?

Would you think of throwing anything away from the event — much less a US Flag?

  198. I just made the mistake of looking at my 401k. I’m down 13.2% in the last 12 months. I guess that’s okay as the stock market is down over 20%.

    Hill eeerrrr rrrrYYYYYYYY!

  199. Does Obama have any friends that have pictures without numbers at the bottom?

  200. katie – Just the candidates!

  201. IronMan – it makes it easier for him to keep track!

  202. dave.

The flags were rolled up and had elastic bands around them obviously to be used later.
This story originated from Carl Cameron of Fox news who in 2004 made up fake quotes about John Kerry that were later apologized for and retracted.

Why does this site regurgitate every single smear?

Is payback worth the risk of letting McCain erase the crimes of the last eight years with four more of his own?

  203. Hello everyone…thank you SO MUCH for the incredible thoughts and healing vibes!

I think they worked! Happily, my dad is out of danger for now. Woo-hoo!!! As long as he takes better care of himself, he will be good to go. 🙂

  204. McCain dreaming of his first night in the White House!

  205. dances, look upthread, somebody posted a link with pictures. they were in trash bags with old pizza boxes and other trash along with crumpled up signs. you’re full of shit.

    Happy Birthday to you!

OK — Now eat a big piece of cake for us 🙂

  209. And Dances – does that look like recycling “Green” to you?

  210. LMAO! From a commenter on the press yelling at Hillary to go fix Bambi’s Palin problem:

In a situation like this the natural choice of supporter who would reach out to women would be the candidate’s wife….

LMAO! Yeah, that would be who a candidate would normally use to build those bridges, but I doubt ol’ scowling Michelle would be much help there.

It will be 2 to 3 more years before the economy hit bottom and there is nothing on God’s green earth that the next President can do about it. That person will be blamed and be out in one term. Maybe 2012 is Hillary’s time in history.

LMAO! Knitting needles at 4 o’clock, Harry Reid! Incoming! DUCK!

  216. NEW THREAD UP

    NEW THREAD UP

  217. http://blogs.denverpost.com/opinion/2008/09/06/republican-recycling/

Those are the flags that the McCain/Fox people stole from the storage room and claimed Obama was unpatriotic.

The pictures carol is showing come from the Invesco clean up crew after the convention night.

I’m sure if Democrats wished to sniff through republican garbage in St. Paul there would be similar pictures available.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/214245.php
    that contains the Cameron angle.

Sorry for not including links before katiebird

  218. Dances, you are full of it. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid

By the way, Bush and McCain hate each other. McCain will not be “four more years of Bush.” That’s just Obama propaganda–not that you would recognize it.

  219. From the looks of thos photos. At the least the Dems were lying about having the most green convention ever. They threw all sorts of stuff in the same bags. No recycling. But I guess they didn’t recycle the flags. Why would they recycle aluminum cans?

  220. If you are having a little trouble making up your mind as to if you should vote for McCain. Go to the CNN “Polictical Ticker” and read some of the comments. Pick any article. The Obama bashers, paid and unpaid, control every article, if its negative they slam the story and if positive they promote it, but what I am having a little problem with is that they are still bashing Hillary and some with very unkind words. Its one hell of a way to win us over. There is one good article and it states that Hillary is going to campaign for Obama in Florida, but is not going to slam Palin. It made me feel a little bit better. Lets defeat Obama and lets reform the DNC.

  221. Obama appeared before fundraisers paying some $38000 each to hear him ask them if they were up for a fight because he has been doing this stuff for 19 months and missing his babies and his wife, eating hotel food and traveling on charter flights/tour buses.

Does he not have a clue at the contrast this makes with McCain’s story? McCain’s acceptance speech was the first time I had ever heard McCain talk about that experience and how he went from a self-centered, me first fighter pilot to being a man who survived only because other men were there to feed him when he could not feed himself in a 4×6 cell and those same men gave him forgiveness when he admitted to them that he had broken. Has the Obama campaign never thought that one of the great debts this country has not paid, in addition perhaps to its AA debt, is the debt to our servicemen of Vietnam?

Even Sarah Palin’s story as a woman who had to face a pregnancy that she knew would bring a ds baby into the world—any woman who has ever had a child can surely relate to that and know that it is a little more of a challenge than being on a presidential campaign trail for 19 months.

David Brooks wrote early in this election that Obama had a problem with deep commitment when things got rough and just plain hard. This statement to fundraisers is such an example of his “spoiled childness”.

So now what about all those SEIU members who prepare and serve that hotel food????? (I think SEIU is their union.)

  222. BTW that statement of BO’s at the campaign event brings up another thing I have been wondering about. Obama was so sure of private financing that he went the public financing route. Is he having trouble bringing in enough bucks? He will need to raise at least 42.5 million in each of Sept and Oct to stay even with McCain’s 85 million from public financing—that is to stay even. But Obama spends money like a drunken sailor. I understand the Invesco statium event alone cost him 70,000,000 (that is a one night stand). How much money has Obie raised since he started and how much has he spent? What is his weight on the Democratic donor base going to do to down ticket Dem fundraising? That means that the Dem fundraising must raise 85 million more, minimum for the top of the ticket that it would not have had to worry about if Obama had done public financing. It means Obama must campaign and raise funds at the same time. Maybe he can start charging for admission to his events. Somehow this seems an incredibly stupid position to be in to me. If the Republicans start using this it could really cut deep: how much Obama has/is spending to get himself elected and how beholden he is to how many people.

  223. Here’s the Time article re: the library/book banning issue:

    http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1837918,00.html

  224. Obama appeared before fundraisers paying some $38000 each to hear him ask them if they were up for a fight because he has been doing this stuff for 19 months and missing his babies and his wife, eating hotel food and traveling on charter flights/tour buses.

It also contrasts sharply with McCain’s campaign going bankrupt, so what did he do–even though his wife is very wealthy, but does not underwrite his campaigns?–he flew commercial, carrying his own bags through the airports. THAT is commitment. And I don’t remember him whining about it either.
