    • The Decline & Fall Of The Soviet Union
Our society seems fascinated by the fall of empires and nations. You rarely see a book on the “birth” of Rome, say, it’s the collapse we care about. In this I’m a bit odd, I prefer the creation period, the early years when everything goes right, to the fall, but it’s important to see that death precedes birth. The Czars fall, the Soviets rise… The Soviets fa […]

We played this song a few months ago. It spoke to us. What is the artist trying to say? No, no, don’t tell me. It will come to me in a sec here… Well, I suppose it depends where you’re coming from.

CHECK IT OUT: Matt from Georgia is going live on blogtalkradio is just a few minutes! Tune in to

  1. Remember the PUMA stalker from Denver? he can go lower than Kos:
he has an…e-mail to base this on!

  2. Hey guys, join me tonight.

Interview with Larry Sincalir on his past with Barack Obama, drug use, sexual allegations, delaware warant, Obama internet thugs, and so much more!!!

    Join me[Matt] Tonight at 11PM ET!!! call-in 347-202-0443

  3. Matt: I put a reminder in this post. I’ll be sure to tune in. Love your show.

  4. Wow!

It looks like Sarah-cuda shook BO badly. How else can you explain the fact that he’s gone back to something he just got chided for:

Obama Says McCain Campaign Comment on this Being an Election Not About Issues Means False Attacks on Him

“And I know that the temptation is to say, ‘You know what? …The guy hasn’t been there that long in Washington.,‘ You know, ‘he’s got funny name,’ You know, ‘we’re not sure about him,'” Obama continued. “And that’s what the Republicans, when they say, ‘This isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities,’ what they’re really saying is, ‘We’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that you know, maybe he’s got Muslim connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.’

“Just making stuff up,” Obama said, “or that he never’s gotten anything done even though over the last 20 years I’ve given health care to kids who didn’t have it.”

Isn’t Obama resorting back to the race card here? When has the McCain campaign EVER brought up ANY of this stuff? It looks like he feels the need to bring out his heavy artillery because it works so well in the primaries.

*PS: Obama gave healthcare to kids who didn’t have it? When? Which kids? His?

  5. Keep your hands to yourself, DNC!

  6. MAblue – you know DAMN WELL that neither McCain nor Palin ever used his name – nevertheless his RACE in any speeches. They refer to him as “my/our opponent” – just shameful and disgusting.

  7. MABlue – maybe Obama is quoting from his fictional memoirs.

Its so damn hard to keep the lies straight.

  8. Damn, don’t tell me he went back to that well again. Enough with the Mccarthyism, the smears just helped Palin, you dummy.

All McCain has to do is say you tell me when anyone said that, you miserable lying smearmonger.

  9. Entirely off-topic, ignore me: I got my CDs in the mail. I’m listening to “Wheel in the Sky” and drinking a margarita, and LIFE IS GOOD …

  10. MABlue,
The problem is that there’s some truth in what he’s stating. He has hung out with radicals. And he has numerous family members who are muslims so doesn’t that give him a muslim connection? That’s why he’s concerned. All you need is a grain of truth to make this stuff stick like glue.

  11. MSBlue,

Obama’s actions are typical of a very desperate man. How many decks of cards does Obama have? He’s on what, his 3rd or 4th deck now? Pathetic!

  12. dang, is he STILL using that tired bit about his name being funny?
I would suggest he draw on his past experience if he needs something to talk about…oh wait, that won’t work will it?
Maybe he could walk voters through his plans for tackling specific…darn.
Okay, keep working the funny name.

  13. Great song, RD!

With the announcement and nomination of Sarah Palin as the VP choice, her speech wednesday night where she showed true grit, and McCain’s straight talk and call to action for America to stand up and fight for what is right, I think the following song captures what Obama and his band of Obamabots are feeling:

    T H U N D E R S T R U C K

    John and Sarah ’08
    Hillary ’12

    Roger that!

  14. Well I see my post was deleted. Odd!

  15. Ana:

Barack Obama is like every other condescending, sanctimonious, co-dependent, hypocritical so-called liberal male I’ve suffered my entire life. The kind who thinks women’s lib means giving him everything mommy gave him while pulling in $100,000 a year. He’s all for equality unless it affects his pocketbook or peepee.

Wednesday night, Sarah Palin hoisted up this scrawny mealy-mouth by the collar and kicked the living shit out of him. It was a joy to behold.

Hillary’s heroism cannot be touched. Hers is intelligent, shrewd, strong, built up carefully over the years. But Sarah gave us something too. She strode into the bar, walked up to the biggest guffawing bully, and smashed a beer bottle over his head. And in so doing, broke his spell.

There’s a time and a place for that, too.

  16. ugsome: I’m loving your post!

  17. You know, ‘he’s got funny name

As if me and Rudy Giuliani haven’t been spelling our names over the phone for our whole lives. Piss off, Barky. Nobody CARES ABOUT YOUR NAME.

  18. BTW – Hillary is SUPPOSEDLY coming to Tampa – just saw it on local print news. Tickets available – trying to see if I can get there – BUT I WILL be PUMAed to the HILT.

Will report more, listening to to Matt’s show!

  19. Ana – It may be odd to you but it saved my monitor.

I don’t know how many more times I could remove and move the black electrical tape I had placed over your comment without doing some serious damage to my screen.

  20. Ana, I agree with you. I don’t understand why your post was deleted.

  21. Does anyone know what he is talking about with kids health care? Is he confabulating something about SCHIP?

Obama is really dangerous…Bush is a pathological liar but he knows he is lying and give that FU smirk. Obama believes his lies and incorporates them into his life history as fact.

  22. Well said, ugsome

Obama wants women to give their time, and money, and votes to him, just as long as they sit on the bench.

The guy claims to be about change, but his actions reveal him to be a backward thinking narcissistic shell of a man.

  23. Call me crazy, but McCain and palin are both too conservative for most Democrats, so being ‘fine’ with him but keeting all het up that people are not rushing to burn her at the stake would seem to….make little rational sense. A protest vote is a protest vote, after all.

  24. The One somehow left out the part where McCain made fun of his ears. Sheesh, this is getting beyond real old. Barky’s starting to look like the New Vaudeville.

  25. Obama is really starting to look like a tired act. This is becoming sad to watch.

He used to be the popular and kewl kid, now it’s Sarah. He used to draw the big numbers with his speeches, now even McCain who would ruin a speech with “Good morning” as a content gets better numbers.

No wonder he’s resorting back to his ultimate weapon.

Actually I’m thinking about adopting Obama’s strategy next time I interview for a job and there’s only 2 of us left. I’ll tell the executive interviewing me: “Beware of my competitor. He’ll come in here and tell you that I’m black, disqualify him because what I’m telling he’ll do is bad bad bad.”
Don’t you guys thin that MUST seal the deal in my favor?

  26. SM!! your first field mission! the newest infantry co-commander. We will be with you in spirit!

  27. Race card played again? Again??? Christ on a bike!

I say that deserves a small excerpt from the best rant EVAH from Liberal Rapture:

“Dear Mr. Polly Prissy Pretend President,

Listen up Your Highness Obama. I have something to say.

Shut TF up about r*ce. Now. We are sick of it. In fact, this writer is sick to death of it. You keep saying crap like “they” will try to scare you because you don’t look like past Presidents or you have a weird last name or whatever. Bullshit. BULL SHIT. This is nonsense. You got millions of votes (less than Hillary but still millions) in the primaries. None of those voters gave a shit you look like the result of Dr. Moreau sending Alfred E Newman, Bob Saget, Dumbo, and Urkle through a wood chipper and fusing their DNA in a wheat grass juicer.”

  28. Hey Pat, thanks. I like yours too.

It is eery how much Barack’s attitude towards Hillary mirrors those of my father, brothers, and assorted exes towards women. Mr. Obot Ugsome is still sore after nearly two years that I’m not at home giving him the life he thinks he deserves. I’m dumping a boyfriend because he too has evidenced that proprietary attitude. Christ on a crutch, I’m just better off going it alone at my age.

There’s a little hope for the future though. Mr. Obot said Bill gave a good convention speech. Our son asked, “Who’s Bill Clinton?”

“He was president when you were born, dear.”

“Oh. Hillary had a husband who was president?”

I read elsewhere of a 5-year-old who calls Bill “Mr. Hillary.”

    We can only hope.

  29. MABlue: Go for it, what have you got to lose. Since this seems to be the one and only reason for supporting Obama, may as well make hay while the sun shines.

  30. Gary – I’m going to TRY!!!

They announced tickets available today & Sunday – don’t know yet how I can get in – but I’m gonna try my dammist!!!

  31. SM: If I were down there I would go with you!

  32. britgirl: I just spit Orange Juice all over the screen!!

  33. “now even McCain who would ruin a speech with “Good morning” as a content gets better numbers”

LOL I’ve heard lots of complains about McCain’s poor greeting delivery from the Capitol Hill coat check department. 🙂

  34. Hey, SM

I’m hearing you on the radio!

  35. Since it’s Friday night let’s dance the Barackarena:

    Brush left shoulder
    Brush right shoulder
    Middle finger to left temple
    Middle finger to right temple
Look down your nose to the left
Look down your nose to the right
    Jump and quarter turn

  36. Yeah, Pat, I bookmarked that rant because it makes me laugh my ass off.

The full rant is worth reading, for sure!

I e-mailed it to my Obot friend ’cause I love yanking his chain. He went OFF because apparently calling a certain someone “homeboy” is beyond the pale. Really? I thought the Dr. Moreau line was the real punch to the gut.

  37. I think its fine, that people want to make sure Obama doesn’ win, but I would like to make sure it gets done without disparaging Hillary. And I think its fine to support McCain, but to act all of a sudden like Palin is some kind of heroine is ridiculous to me, because she isn’t. The truth is that she is benefitting from the political climate, and from the struggles that people like Hillary and Geraldine had to go through. And lets not forget that Palin comes from the GOP Party, so besides her extreme views and not just on abortion but education, etc…And that party has tried to set women like Hillary back for years.

So I am not going to pretend that all that time didn’t happen. Neither I am going to support Palin or make her into a Heroin. But I will support McCain, who I like and think would be a good president.

  38. britgirls: Wow, that rant was inspired.

Ana: we know perfectly well what Palin’s record and positions are. That detracts nothing from the joyful drubbing she administered to a smug pantywaist on Wednesday.

I am not going to look that gift horse in the teeth.

  39. Oh dear Virgin Mary,
Please make me thirty years younger and give me forty five minutes in a cheap hotel room with the lead singer of this group,
    That is all

  40. ugsome, I thought she was good, and honestly she reminds me of a female Obama. I think they are both overly hyped for ratings. Honestly I don’t see the appeal in either of them, that’s why I am voting third party this year. Hopefully the dems will shape up and get it together for 2012. And hopefully then we can have Hill back.

  41. PAT: I’m going to try – I’m planning to protest.

But Terry McAullife said she’s not coming – it may be a HAKA.

I drive down there & see. There is no phone #.

  42. britgirls: I had to call, Matt is a great asset to our movement.

  43. ““Just making stuff up,” Obama said, “or that he never’s gotten anything done even though over the last 20 years I’ve given health care to kids who didn’t have it.”

Obama is channelling again. He heard this from Hillary so now it’s his accomplishment. By the time the words were out of his mouth they became fact to him. LOL

  44. Suddenly the trolls WANT us to vote 3rd party?

    Sounds like Bawack is scared

  45. This race isn’t over yet, and as excited as some are about Palin and hope for an Obama loss, the Obama campaign is not going to throw in the towel. Expect a bumpy ride from now til Nov 4. I can wait for the first debate in about 3 weeks.

  46. ugsome, that’s a very sweet comment from your son re: Hillary’s husband Bill.

I have a four-month old baby girl, and for her sake, I’m very happy that it’s looking like Palin as VP in ’08 and our gal Hillary in ’12.

I grew up during the Thatcher years. Mind you, all I really remember is she took away our free milk in school. 😦

  47. This is what worries me about folks who plan to vote N.O.T. If the Obama campaign is telling their trolls to push for 3rd party or stay home, don’t you think they have projections that say they would win?

  48. If Obama keeps throwing in the race card he might as well throw in the towel too

  49. If people stay home Obama will win.

  50. myiq:

You collect scary clown pics, right? Have you seen the HORRIFYING pic of Nancy Pelosi that Hillbuzz always uses:

That lipstick! Hoooweee. That’s the scariest looking clown I ever saw.

  51. Plea from last thread. Come on guys, just vote McCain. We’ve already accepted that we don’t want BO and that we hope he would lose. Have we not already accepted President McCain? Mac is not going to spit in the face of our support. He’s not stupid.

Let’s make Obama the ultimate nobody. I want to see him on a reality show in a few years with American Idol runners-up from the past and those voted off the island.

  52. myiq:

You collect scary clown pics, right? Have you ever seen that HORRIFYING pic of Nancy Pelosi that Hillbuzz always uses?

The way that lipstick is applied …

HooooWeeee! That’s the scariest looking clown I ever saw.

  53. I loved that Mr. Hillary part. My wish is to be able to call Bill Mr. Hillary, or First Bubba or First BigDawg in 2012. There’s only one way for that to happen. McCain/Pailn ’08
    Hillary and First Bubba ’12

  54. joanie,

I’m uncommitted. I want to be wooed. I’m thinking: Health Care for Everyone. Offered by someone who wouldn’t lie to me. maybe someone with a family interest in healthcare.

  55. I see the future……BO will set-up a shrine to himself in his livingroom–so no one will miss it–of the days when he got to play prez on TV. Tape loop of Euro trip and the greek columns.

Please guys, do what it will take to NEVER let this fraud get anywhere near the whitehouse. Staying home won’t do it.

  56. Oh, and dad is worried: brother “j” told him “q” is supporting McCain.

  57. I hope Hillary pursues a National agenda over the next 4 years in addition to the great work she is doing for New York. Something very visible and beneficial for the middle class. That would help for Hillary 2012

  58. Hell, yeah, I’m voting for McCain. And any downticket Dems that didn’t accept vast sums of $$$ from Obama/Pelosi.

Furthermore, if Congress doesn’t get off its ASS I may never register as a Democrat again.

  59. britgirls:

You obviously need to spend some time at the circus carnival.

There is a huge difference between the clowns and the freak show

  60. Charles – your in CA?

  61. I’m on the edge.

I think one more unhinged Palin bashing at TalkLeft might just push me over to voting for her.

  62. myiq2xu why do you go there? Are you having withdrawal?

  63. being Irish, I don’t think Barack even has a funny name, except it’s missing an apostrophe.

‘k, that was a lame joke – but all this stuff about his name and his looks are in his head……I live in Ala-freakin-bama and I’m not hearing concern about his name or skin color, seriously. yes, i know there are people here to whom that would be an issue, but probably not as many as he imagines. even the crazy stupid rednecks are a little concerned about the economy – stop putting them down and address the issues that affect them. btw, I’m speaking to all the remaining candidates. comfortable people can analyze personalities all day, struggling people have different needs.

  64. San Fransisco is my favority city in all the US. I am in S Florida.

  65. Why wait to be wooed? Why don’t we demand? The technique worked for the Religious right.

My boys have learned from their Mom that Mac is a better choice. My brother J should not be supporting this fraud.

Poor PUMA dad never thought he’s live to hear about a daughter voting for a repub. But he knows why.

  66. NH:

As a reminder that kool-aid kills brain cells

  67. 4.0 won’t even spill your cafe latte

  68. Nope, he thinks it’s all your ex’s fault. No kid of his would do such a thing. It started an interesting conversation about how sister “b” talked me out of voting for Ford and voting for Carter instead. A vote I’ve regretted nearly everyday of my life since.

You can imagine the bind this put Dad in.

  69. I think most of the racism is kept alive by the Leaders of the AA community. Sure there are still racists, but mostly they keep their months shut.

Like the Hitler survivors AA teach their kids about it when they are babies. Probably has its pros and cons.

  70. New to posting, although not to lurking. I was a die-hard Wes Clark supporter in 2004 and am a die-hard Hillary supporter in 2008 and am so happy to have found this community.

I live in an indigo-blue city where everyone is treating me like a lunatic because I’m not supporting Obama. Haven’t yet decided what I’ll do, although I will admit that I got a HUGE kick out of Palin’s speech – and the world is ending, because I actually agree with Giuliani on his sexism comment. That is deeply disturbing to me.

  71. Wow! Charles. Everything stay on the shelves?

  72. Wait…so if Obama is so convinced that all these people aren’t voting for him bcause they’re racist, then why does he keep trying to get them to vote for him? If they’re racists they won’t become non-racists by November 4th, will they? I guess it’s that same “logic” that says we PUMAs are about 50 people but we’re going to screw up the election at the same time.

I am more convinced than ever that the Dems don’t care if they lose this election. Obama was put in place strictly to keep Hillary out. He did what he was supposed to do, so now they just don’t care. Either that or the fix they have in for the GE is going to be a real humdinger, because I’ve seen elections for class president in high school that have a better message. And a better candidate, too.

  73. hi LSophia!

  74. ugsome: Barack Obama is like every other condescending, sanctimonious, co-dependent, hypocritical so-called liberal male
I SO love adjectives! Such good ones. Contest: Add more, but they have to be good.

(Sorry haven’t read through the thread – was on te last one and forgot about the wash).

  75. I live in an area that has lots of sandy soil and a 4.0 would spill more than coffee in this spot, but probably not elsewhere.

  76. I used to like it when the glasses would inexplicably rattle in the cupboards.

  77. sitting outside – earthquake hit in Alamo which is about 20 miles or so East of Oakland. Not a big one – soft.

    Love reading these posts.

Joaniebone – how’d the Sarah hair-do turn out

  78. A 4.0 quake is more like a little shiver.

I was there for the Loma Prieta quake back in ’89. Now that was an earthquake!

  79. Ah earthquakes, I was there for the ’89 one. Yikes, that was a doozy. You haven’t really experienced one until a wall hits you (instead of you hitting it).

  80. Oh, Joanie (BAD sister, katiebird) how was the first week at work?

  81. My poor poor dad.

I have been very clear with my kids about why I would —just this once– support a Republican. They get it. They definately get it.

A lesson in putting your money where your mouth is. Teachable moment, this is mine.

  82. Charles? On WHAT grounds does Palin ≈ Eagleton?

Is Obama using campaign strategy developed by Jeralyn?

  83. Ha, TL did the Eagleton comparison last week. It was stunningly unsuccessful. Of course that’s when BTD still had balls and said something. He went away to have them extracted, and he’s back now.

  84. Charles:

Jeralyn was running a pool asking when Palin would resign just like Eagleton.

I wonder if it’s too late to bet on “never?”

  85. MyIQ — I wish I’d put some money on her at one of those betting sites the day she was announced.

  86. OMG. Obama is out of his mind. Just keep opening those doors, this will end well.

  87. It’s a dream-job Katie! I am so lucky!!

Simofish, you would have laughed! I wore my hair the same way (though its not as long on the sides) and even wore my wire frame glasses even though I almost always wear contacts. I even used hairspray!

It was a subtle editorial. No one commented, but politics where I work is a big no-no.

  88. Gotta go to bed. Good night all.

  89. katiebird, on September 6th, 2008 at 12:26 am Said:

Charles? On WHAT grounds does Palin ≈ Eagleton?

    Maybe Biden = Eagleton

  90. LOL, I just cracked myself up with that BTD joke. Now I’m picturing a eunuch BTD behind Jeralyn, brushing her hair, saying now now, you’re the prettiest woman, don’t pay any attention to that Sarah Palin, she’s nothing. No one really likes her…. LOL

  91. I wish you had a digital camera, Joanie. I’d like to have seen it.

  92. and P.S.

    They’ll invent the grounds.

(Palin? – I don’t think so – they love her).

  93. VA – what movie is that from?

  94. Still4Hill — HA, I agree! All around.

  95. VAcardinal,

Katie, maybe I’ll do a re-do doo for you!

  96. oh Charles, over 70 sounds like heaven! our a.c. broke down about a month go, and I weirdly decided it was close enough to Fall to tough it out….I forget I moved south a couple of years ago. anyway, it ranges between 90 – 98 in the house at all times, even with 7 fans going. my husband and I keep reminding each other that we’re kinda old and we grew up without central a.c……..how did we do that? I’m trying to stand by my original decision and wondering if I’m suffering from dementia? no offense, seriously, to anyone dealing with dementia – but my husband worries that I’ve always made such weird decisions (some, I admit, just to be different) that who would really realize if I crossed some line of rationality and wasn’t just being quirky anymore? fortunately, my decisions don’t impact very many people.

omg, I do wish I had a.c . though. this hotness really sucks and has not been character building at all

  97. Michael Moore – “My Forbidden Love for Hillary” -Really!!

And the vote for the WAR turned him off.

  98. Charles: yea, that was a doozy to be sure. I was in an office in Mountain View next to the bay. Mmm, spongy ground. Wow, did that move around. The stories from friends were amazing too. One guy was playing soccer with the kids and saw the ground coming, like an ocean wave. He was just stunned. The ground wave knocked them down. Another friend got stuck in one of these exterior type elevators. Hung there for a while until the fire department could get him out. Funny afterwards of course. The sad part was the bridge of course. Yikes.

  99. Katie, remember that old Paula Prentiss pic you found and sent to me?

  100. Sorry guys – I didn’t mean you….

  101. Oh, Yes (running off)

  102. Is there a link to the Palin ≈ Eagleton?

  103. Joanie & Katie – Paula Prentiss

Stepford wife – I’ll just make a cup of coffee (or word to that effect – gist memory).

  104. Charles – Wow! Is everybody OK?

  105. Hi Pat J. Hi all

  106. Well, if we are doing musical messages to the DNC, here’s mine:

I tried all I can imagine
I begged and pleaded in true lover’s fashion
    I’ve got pride
I’m taking it for a ride
    bye bye….

  107. I was just amazed at the destruction of the bay bridge and a few other places. I had family members who were watching the world series and then tried to call for quite a while after that. Took them a long time to get through. Since they were hearing about the bridge and everything before me, they were quite panicked. I think we were only without power for 1/2 a day or so.

  108. How big was that one in ’89 again?

  109. Did anyone listen Matt’s interview with Larry Sinclair?

  110. Yeah, honestly, is there any support for Biden anywhere? He brings nothing but lost votes.

    What did you say, Charles?

  111. 7.1, centered in Loma Prieta.

  112. Still4Hill, on September 6th, 2008 at 12:36 am Said:

  114. For those curious, this photo looks almost exactly like joaniebone.

  115. I’ve been playing a song by a 60s all-girl garage band from Chicago, the Daughters of Eve, called “Don’t Waste My Time”:

    Don’t waste my time
You went and said goodbye to me
Now I don’t want you anymore

  116. There was one here back in 2001 and that did some damage. Kids in kindergarten and preschool. We were to scheduled to close on a waterfront house that very day –beautiful place. But then the sidewalk started warping and it felt like surfing. I remember how weird it was to see the sheet glass on the store windows rippling without breaking. When it was over, checked on kids then the houses. The one we were about to buy was a mess! All right angles on the lower level were no longer.

We passed on the buy. I couldn’t get to my preschooler for many hours after, and that part was really scary.

  117. Then, joaniebone is very beautiful.

  118. I remembered that photo with sarah’s hairdoo!

  119. Sweetie, She is beautiful. When I found this photo, I sent it out to the family as a lost photo of Joanie and it rattled a couple of siblings. It didn’t look quite right but it’s sooo close.

  120. (blush)

You guys ignore my typing, okay?

  121. (scarlet red)

  122. Charles, don’t worry. They won’t be able to hold her vote. I think she’s already wobbled a couple of times.

  123. joanie, should I delete the link since it’s not an example of the “hairdo”?

  124. …and????

  125. Sorry Charles – been up and downstairs to the wash.

My only experieince w/ quakes were:
1 – In Haiti during dance class – thought it was a dizzy spell (I don’t weigh a lot – get dizzy sometimes)
2- In Haiti – the wooden door was shaking – thought someone was trying to break in
3- Later in Wayne NJ with parents – the floor dropped. i felt it, parents no – 15 mins. later breaking news!! Earthquake!

OTOH – we did go through 9/11 on my campus.
-2 towers down and I’m looking for who can’t get here w/ a Tues. class.
-3 Out for a cigarette (no moralizing, please) around noon and despite being “open” security came and locked down the building.
    -4 I left.

A colleague drove across the GWB – while it was closed! She could have been shot.

Some students had FD relatives this side of the river going into NYC. It was awful.

  126. Good night, dear ones. Stay strong.

  127. Only the person who surrepticiously glances at her ballot as she slips in into the machine knows for sure…

  128. Sorry – my numbers are screwed up – I’m a linguist not a mathematician..

  129. I remember the big 2001 seattle earthquake. I was in the middle of class.

A 4.0 is just a slightly overweight person coming down the stairs.

Is joanie on good behavior tonight?

  130. Seriously: Had been thinking of an absentee ballot, but changed my mind for now – the ticket might not last.

  131. It doesn’t matter Katie, it’s not like that. Actually seeing that thing makes me laugh. That was really funny when you did that to the sibs—because I actually dress like that sometimes–vintage hound that I am.

  132. GQ, I always try to be on good behavior for Charles. He is so suave.

  133. Good grief! Bitten, breast-flashed…. whats next?

  134. If people who hate Rome like us, does that mean we need to start hating Rome?

  135. Damn Charles, you have the oddest experences. What did she say after she bit you?

  136. I always make sure to apologize after biting someone. Usually, they don’t call the police.

  137. Re: Obama talking points about Eagleton.

First, this was all before I was born but AFAIK Eagleton was a good Democrat and lifelong public servant and should be treated with respect. And he passed away last year and should probably be left in peace, not dragged into the campaign by the Democratic nominee!

And we all know why he was dropped from the ticket and damned if I don’t think team Obama is deliberately leaving those implications out there. You know, the old “BITCH IS CRAZY” argument.

Obama’s not fit to be president.

  138. charles… aye yi yi! what was the richter on it?

  139. Well, I give her credit for not just running away in mortification, I guess.

  140. I almost bit my husband’s finger off while I was in labor.

Don’t take anything laboring women say or do personally.

  141. dg,

good on you re: Eagleton. Your last line, a perfect note end on for me.

    Yawn… goodnite all!

  142. McCain, Palin light up Macomb, Michigan

Police Officers Association of Michigan to endorse McCain-Palin team!

  143. Interesting about Ferraro. Shouldn’t they reject her vote since she’s such a racist. I wonder if Hillary gave her a talking too or something. Let’s watch to see if she takes that back down the road as the race baiting continues from camp bambam.

  144. Here is a Community Organizer who comes to the defense of his beleaguered profession:

What do community organizers do? As you know, Americans today are struggling with problems. These problems include rising unemployment, energy cost, alienation, animosity, corporations, and increased death. Like no other time in our history, Americans are staring into an abyss of a hellhole of helplessness. And this is where community organizers like me come in and provide needed solutions. Specifically, America’s community organizers:

    – reach out and work with communities in various ways.
    – liaison with, and for, community agencies for service within affected areas.
    – fight to make a difference.
    – raise awareness.
    – deal with community issues.
    – raise awareness in the community of how we are making differences about undealt-with issues .
    – when necessary, refer inquiries to outreach coordinators.
    – Help coordination agency administrators identify and address outreach opportunities.
    – model timetables and conceptualize benchmarks.
    – issue guidelines for poster contests and interpretive dance festivals.
    – Gather voter registrations, win valuable prizes.

It’s a Rightwing satirist but the stuff is funny.

  145. One other thing. WTF is anyone dealing with Larry Sinclair in any way? That is the most absurd, beyond the pale, ridiculous BS, it makes anyone who goes near it instantly lose credibility. PUMAs should have NOTHING to do with him. Come on. What is Matt thinking, dealing with that? Come on. We’re not the Weekly World News.

  146. A 2.0 can actually feel big if the fault is right underneath you.

    Fortunately, most of them aren’t.

  147. “Eagleton was a good Democrat and lifelong public servant and should be treated with respect.”

You know, I never even thought of that aspect of it, but you’re right.

And in addition to being a cheesy whisper campaign, it’s also disrespectful to people with mental illnesses, or who just seek therapy. I’m not sure of the details, before I was born, but I’m reasonably confident that Eagleton probably could have done the job but was hounded off the ticket due to Republican sleaze and prejudice against people with mental illnesses. Once again, that’s to be deplored, not emulated.

  148. why did you delete my comment?

  149. Other thing about Eagleton I did not know at the time: Catholic. Biden: Catholic.

Somehow a good reason to kick someone under the bus if necessary.

I’m raised Catholic. Wouldn’t vote for O/B just for that though.

Bobby spoke to/for me – Hillary does – nothing to do with religion. Everything to do with what’s right.

  150. I found a good article “Obamedia Still Scrambling For Angle to Bury Palin” in a Canadian paper.

    Here is the beginning:

“The 24/7 Obama press was sent into frenzy last Friday when John McCain named the one VP running mate that they had not performed preemptive personal sludge searches upon in preparation for the announcement. They thought that they were ready to bury whomever McCain announced, but nobody had Sarah Palin on the war room radar…

Lacking any sludge prep on Palin, the Obama press immediately turned to left-wingnut blogs like Daily Kos for anti-Palin material.

    Nobody knows who she is…
    She’s a girl…
    Alaska’s not a real state, so she’s not a real governor…
She was only mayor of a small town…
She has no foreign policy experience…
Her daughter mothered her secret grandson…
Her 17 year old daughter is pregnant out of wedlock…
Her husband has a 25 year old DUI…
    She opposes a woman’s right to kill…
    She likes guns…
She’s a card carrying member of the vast right-wing conspiracy…
    She had an extramarital affair…

This is the best personal mud they could throw on the wall quickly and none of it stuck.

In their mad dash to derail the public love fest with the new conservative bombshell, the Obamedia rushed perverted lie after perverted lie into print in an effort to bury Palin before she could get her political sea legs.”

  151. Did anyone see Obama on Bill O’Reilly? He looked so weak. Bill really made him look very unpresidential!!!! Like an amiture.

  152. And in addition to being a cheesy whisper campaign, it’s also disrespectful to people with mental illnesses, or who just seek therapy.

Yes, I’m one of those people. Mood disorder. I’m extremely pissed off about using Eagleton as a talking point because it is extremely insensitive to people who suffer from mental illness, and there are millions and millions of them in this country. And because it is SEXIST in this context, it frankly is – how many times did we hear Hillary called a “psycho ex-girlfriend” because she refused to drop out after winning all the big states and swing states? How many Obama fans in your own lives reacted to Palin by declaring “OMG she’s crazy!!” Sarah Palin is not crazy. She may have different beliefs and policy ideas.. but.. Dear Obama Nation, a strong woman who disagrees with you is not crazy.

  153. But, seriously, Seriously,
Where do we draw the line on “mental illness?” I’ve been down since June (Hillary) and especially today (my sister had to put her dog to sleep, and I cry). I cry when I see those beautiful Hillary videos – God she’s something! And I cry when I think of Kramer the Beagle. Otherwise, I’m normal and functional.

When my dad died I was like Jennifer O’Connell in House of Sand and Fog – didn’t open mail for almost a year.

Not a single moment of all of that interfered with my job, though.

Rush’s theory washes out any real deliberation. He thinks the Obama team will invent an excuse and Biden will be gone – Eagletonned.

A shame – because I like Eagleton and Biden.

((sniff – bad day – sniff))

  154. *cheers wildly*

  155. Oh that Eagleton shit just really pisses me off. I read the Atlantic article and the talking points aren’t that she is mentally ill or been under care but rather that some Repubs were uncomfortable with the decision.

However, that’s not the point that will be picked up. The *pundits* will just see Eagleton and go nuts.

God I hope this blows up in his face like his trying to play the r@ce card again. Arrgghhhh!!

  156. Dear Obama Nation, a strong woman who disagrees with you is not crazy.

    Thanks, dg.

  157. Hey, Still4Hill, just curious–what’s your specialty in linguistics? I studied sociolx.

  158. I saw part of Obama on BillO. He didn’t seem commanding, let’s say. I only saw a clip. It was BillO sitting back in his chair with a big shit eating grin on his face while Obama tried to convince him that he really really truly agreed on the surge, honest. I do not think he did himself any favors but I haven’t seen more than that.

  159. If Obama does get rid of Biden, I don’t think Hillary would get on board. I think it would be the end of the campaign for Obama, and why would Hillary get on board for that. So who else would Obama get? Nah, I don’t think they would do it. Even if there is almost no way to win. I think they’d just keep slinging mud with the hope that something would stick. And of course 90% of the mud will be made up. It’s just how their minds work. Yikes, just made me thing again, what if they won. That would be really scary.

  160. Yes, Seriously (so I guess I’m old enough to be your mother) he was hounded. It was terrible – it was my worst year until now in our “democracy.”

As the days drip through the hour glass – more and more – 2008 resembles 1968.

Hillary and I cut our baby teeth that year (figuratively – politically).

    Not so different this year.

  161. BTW, in that article that I mentioned in my comment above, this also appears (along with other fun stuff):

“Who vetted Obama and Biden? The list of legitimate serious questions about Obama is almost endless and well supported by hard evidence, – and if Obamedia is ever forced (and they will have to be forced) to ask any of those questions in a serious way, the Obama campaign will come to a screeching halt in a pile of dust and rubble.

The Obamedia has not even mentioned the fact that Obama and the DNC are being sued over Obama’s legal status to even seek the Oval Office. The DNC was served suit papers at noon on 9/4/08 and Obama was served at 1: PM the same day and the suit will proceed in a Pennsylvania court.

The law suit, filed by former Pennsylvania Assistant Attorney General Phillip Berg, who is also a Democrat that supported Hillary Clinton for president, alleges that Obama is not even constitutionally able to seek the office. That’s a pretty big story to ignore, don’t you think?”

  162. RD, will you pass along a message to Hillary for me.
When Obama calls her and ask her to go on the campaign trail to destroy Sarah, tell Hillary to tell Barack to “go fuck yourself”. Have her to tell Barack that he had her for free but he chose to skip over her for JB. Beg Hillary to say “Fuck you and the camel you rode in on. Motherfucker.”
Thanks RD. I owe you one.

  163. Is Obama getting voters signed up right and left? He probably has the money
to carry everyone of them to the polls. I heard that 2500 voters registered
up at a Dem table for a Tapestry show recently (near San Jose, CA). It must
have been the weekend, but the report was that lots of them had imbibed the Kool-Aid.

That’s what happens when the media sells the product.

  164. Fredster, I think that’s what is insidious about the talking points.. because Eagleton brings up two associations, right.. being dropped from the ticket.. and the reason being some history of mental illness. I noticed only a day or two after the pick was announced Jeralyn (who is on some sort of anti Palin jihad) put up a post headlined.. I think it was.. “Palin: The Next Eagleton?” How is she getting the talking points and why is she willingly playing this role?

I wonder if the anonymous Democratic surrogates (three of them?!) who tipped off Ambinder were equally disgusted by this..

  165. I’m not so sure Clinton wouldn’t get on board. She’s clearly party loyal to the core, even when it goes against her own interests. But Obama is too much of a delusional, sexist idiot to save himself.

  166. Got my McGovern campaigns mixed up – Eagleton was ’72 – also a bleak year.

  167. I too remember that ’68 election. Funny since I’m only 30 years old… at least that’s what I tell people. What? Anyway, that was an amazing year. And not in a good way. Martin, Bobby, then that election. The war, the protests that stopped the war, the moon, the hippie communes, then watergate, then ford, then jimmy. What a very tragic and strange time. But so alive at the same time.

  168. Thank you everyone for tuning into “My Two Cents Radio Show”!!!

Tune in Tomorrow night: Harriet Christian interview at 11PM ET!

  169. Oh yea, 72 for that. I was thinking of Humphrey for some reason too.

  170. cb: “That’s what happens when the media sells the product.”

    Probably nothing.

  171. Matt – sorry I was doing wash. Harriet?!! I’ll be there!

  172. Yes, Harriet Christian interview tomorrow night at 11PM ET!!!

  173. “Is Obama getting voters signed up right and left?”

Isn’t that our strategy every year, sign up new voters, expect them to save us, be amazed when they once again don’t show up?

I’m sorry, but in 2004 young people seriously believed there was going to be a draft, and still Kerry’s massive GOTV among new registrants didn’t amount to anything. And in the primary, Obama only won where there was low turnout. The ore voters who showed up, the lower his chances.

  174. VA – Humphrey – I did vote for him having a pen in my hand to write in – who? Ostensibly Jesse, but really Bobby – who was already dead. I cry every time I think about that. My first venture into a voting booth.

  175. Root is no fan of the Democratic nominee: “A vote for Obama is four years of Karl Marx, and no one should be happy about that,” he told us and a few genial young libertarian activists over cocktails. “He’s a communist! I don’t care what anybody says. The guy’s a communist…. And his mother was a card-carrying communist, and he says she’s the most important person in his entire life; he learned everything from her.

    Some excerpts from the conversation:

Matt Welch: So tell us what we should know about Barack Obama that we don’t?

Wayne Allyn Root: I think the most dangerous thing you should know about Barack Obama is that I don’t know a single person at Columbia that knows him, and they all know me. I don’t have a classmate who ever knew Barack Obama at Columbia. Ever

  176. cuo:“He’s a communist! I don’t care what anybody says. The guy’s a communist…. And his mother was a card-carrying communist”

That’s what I think , but I don’t have any hard evidence – do you? If you are a McC-bot, sorry. Not voting for either and you are too ill-prepared to be able to change my mind.

  177. Oh damn! I so wanted to be your friend I’m going to have to vote for Obama now! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?

  178. Good night Jennifer. Over 60 and too pissed off to go beyond your 3rd sentence. Take your bottle and go to sleep.

  179. Jennifer, maybe you should get more irate? That might help us change our minds. Also, insult us more.

  180. dg – LOL!!!

  181. See if i thought he was a communist, I’d be voting for him. lol Unfortunately, he’s just another Republican-enabling corrupt hack and a sexist idiot to boot.

  182. Incidentally, choosing which candidate we want to vote for, or not vote for, and pushing to change things from the grassroots, is exactly what is right about politics. IMHO the notion that if you only insult and shame people enough and treat them like they’re stupid, they’ll vote for you – that is exactly what is wrong with Obama and much of the current Democratic Party.

  183. Seriously: You are so effing perceptive. (But trust me communism is a screw you system). Obama is Bush III and a Saudi tool.

  184. dg – are you young enough for me to adopt you?

  185. “Jennifer, maybe you should get more irate? That might help us change our minds. Also, insult us more.”

Also, if you’re going to insult people’s intelligence, make damn, damn sure that you know the difference between, say, “to” and “too.” Proofread, people! Picking on people’s grammar is mean, but you walk into it when you set yourself up as some sort of guru who should be followed. If you look like you maybe didn’t pass second grade, most people are not going to change their opinions based on your say-so, Angry Stranger.

  186. How come all those posts sound alike? When you get to this part “Because the stakes are simply to high” you realize they must be cutting and pasting from some main master copy somewhere.

And, by the way, “to” is spelled “too.” And are you sure it’s “stakes” and not “steaks”?

  187. Seriously: Commana my house – I got lotsa stuff to proof.

  188. Jennifer, paragraphs are your friend.

My fourth-grader has a better command of written English than your average troll.

  189. Gracie -and I say this lovingly because I have a blind kitten named Gracie – pay no attention to the troll behind the curtain.

  190. Jen-jen said:

PUMA, you ain’t no friend of mine.

Then take your lame ole ass outta here okay?

  191. My steaks are high. Must be the bong-water marinade.

  192. dg, on September 6th, 2008 at 1:49 am

yeah, there are the two issues with using that. Being removed from the ticket and the mental illness issue. They were really trying to be snarky by using that analogy.

  193. OK – Old people: Remember “Radical Chic”? I just saw Obama appeal to that on CNN

He is Leonard Bernstein’s party come 2008. Re-read (or SEE – it was meant for that) MacBeth.

  194. Still4Hill, definitely too old for that, LOL. 🙂

Bringing it up again, I heard a radio ad today for the northern Virginia market which was all about scaring women into voting against McCain over Roe v Wade, and saying the stakes were too high in this election. I just didn’t appreciate the scare tactics one bit. By the way, haven’t they essentially banned nearly all abortions in South Dakota? Where has Obama’s good friend Tom Daschle been to stand up for women’s rights in his own state?

  195. Yeah Gracie, and they always try to make themselves sound like brave iconoclasts who are against partisanship before telling us “stop thinking, just blindly follow whatever the party tells you, sheeple!”

    The logic is overwhelming!

That hooked on phonics shit does them in everytime! 😉

  197. Ooh, leonard Bernstein is from a nearby town! What did he do?

Yeah dg, but remember–Ruth Bader Ginsberg might step down, and then they’ll have a 6-3 majority, and be able to do all the things they can’t do already with the thanks to us existing 5-4 majority. There’s a super top secret SCOTUS fillibuster and you need 6 votes to defeat it.

  198. “The Obamedia has not even mentioned the fact that Obama and the DNC are being sued over Obama’s legal status to even seek the Oval Office. The DNC was served suit papers at noon on 9/4/08 and Obama was served at 1: PM the same day and the suit will proceed in a Pennsylvania court.”

EXACTLY, Karolina…and yet they are hyping that the Palin case is being fast-tracked and she is being served subpoenas.

  199. When Obama calls her and ask her to go on the campaign trail to destroy Sarah, tell Hillary to tell Barack to “go fuck yourself”.

LOL, Thomas, already done!!! Hillary sent word that she REFUSES to bash Sarah, but will campaign against McCain and his policies, when she has time.

lololol — Barky is fretting over his rival celeb while Hillary has her eye on the executive thing to do.

  200. Biden might just think that talk of Eagleton by the Obama camp is a hint to him. Eagleton after all was a democrat. Biden might be better off running for reelection to his safe senate seat.

  201. Every time one of the Obama trolls starts into the SCARY SCOTUS! Booga booga booga! routine, I almost feel sorry for them.

I mean, this was the plan. The ultimate trump card. The campaign SAID it would work, it’s the nuclear option if nothing else works on those wimminz.

I always wonder if the look on their face resembles the guy in the movies who suddenly realizes that garlic, contrary to what he was told, has no effect whatsoever on vampires.

  202. Well, the link won’t post, annoying. I hate to post without a source, what’s up with the links here? This is from yahoo news:

Clinton set to strike McCain, not Palin
    Glenn Thrush
Fri Sep 5, 4:39 PM ET

Hillary Rodham Clinton has no intention of becoming a Sarah Palin attack dog — but has no qualms going after John McCain, people close to the former first lady say.

“She’s not the answer when it comes to winning conservative women — she never was — and we’re not going to be anybody’s attack dog against Sarah Palin,” said a Clinton insider….

  203. Jennifer, go bore people who think you have a point.

And who think Barky is going to protect their rights.

  204. Hillary! Hillary! Hillary! Yahoo!

Hey, if any Clinton aides lurk here, could one of you accidentally dump a drink on Debbie wasserman-Schultz? Because of that bit about ‘I’m sure she did a good job raising her kids and taking care of her house,” um….

  205. Still4Hill: Glad you mentioned ‘Radical Chic.’ Obama brings two books to mind, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and Radical Chic by Tom Wolfe. Both more apropos than his autobiographies.

  206. Zee: Hillary doesn’t use language like that. The sentiment might be there. Hillary is a lady.

  207. Entertaining twitter from Obot Ex:

“I couldn’t even watch Palin’s speech all the way through without nausea. The lies, distortions and venom got to me. I’m mad. $50 more to BO”

Awww, poor baby. I rather enjoyed watching Palin kick the stuffing out of that suit, myself.

  208. ugsome:

You are on my wavelength (whatever that was supposed to be/mean).

  209. Well, what with our history together, I do feel I owe you, but I want it to be perfect. Give me time to produce my masterpiece, won’t you?

  210. Jennifer Coles, McDonald’s offers better pay and more regular hours than O-trolling.

  211. And it’s ‘it’s,’ not ‘its.’

  212. Hi Still4Hill,

I know from 40+ years experience that soi-disant progressive men are some of the biggest pigs around.

Stokely Carmichael said that the only position for women in the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee was prone. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

  213. Jennifer Coles, on September 6th, 2008

Jen-jen, we asked you nicely, now GO!!
Shoo!! flicking finger at annoying fly

  214. ugsome, is he still alive? Our Senatorial Recruiting Committee will be on the phone before daybreak.

  215. Jennifer, if you stomp into someone”s living room uninvited and begin demanding they justify themselves to you, that says something. It says that you are a rude and petulant child.

I do not OWE you an explanation for a damn thing. We have discussed this endlessly on this blog. Go read. Find it. Do some work. And stop insulting people with your arrogance and assumptions before you have bothered to educate yourself one iota.

BTW, not turning my country over to ill-informed tantruming children such as yourself is a BIG reason I will not vote for Obama.

Do any of you even care to answer why you would risk losing a women’s right to choose or WWWIII for the sake of your stupid grudge? Don’t even tell me its about “principles” either.

Sure, Jennifer! No problem. See we fought for so many years for reproductive rights that we are very tired. Over the past 8 years, I have tried to get students to vote. I never said HOW to vote, just go vote.

Every GE year, I got the same old tired stories why they did not.

Meanwhile I became old and dried up. Young people at universities did not bother to either register where they lived or file absentee ballots.

I voted, so don’t blame me.

So, you are beginning to be afraid of loss of your personal rights?

Don’t cry to me. I stood in rain and mud and snow to get you those rights. I ran from police to get you those rights. I got hit. Did you?

Don’t preach to me. Go organize your girl band (as in Robin Hood).

This is where I came from.

  217. *cheers* I would like to apologize on my generation’s behalf.

  218. Oh dear people at this website: I sincerely apologize for her bothering you.

She went to one of the Obama rallies and has not been the same since! We’ve tried medication and electroshock therapy but nothing is doing any good. She slips out of her restraints and when we aren’t looking heads for the nearest computer and keyboard.

It’s really getting bad. To punish her for attacking unknown blogs, we’ve actually removed a portion of two fingers but she keeps typing with the stumps! Sigh… I guess we’ll have to move from the soft restraints to the hard ones.

    Again I apologize

  219. ugsome – I SO remember Stokely saying that. And then we got H. Rap Brown.
    SNCC – I wasn’t a member – there wasn’t a chapter where I went.

Barack is Stokley’s child. He makes that clear. Thanks a lot Stoke!

  220. Jennifer, why get yourself all worked up? Haven’t you heard? The party is united behind Barack and there are only three PUMAS. Don’t worry about the poll numbers showing 35 percent of Hillary supporters are not behind Barack. According to Gloria Steinem those numbers are just a fluke.

  221. Hey! Why doesn’t Jennifer Coles have green teeth yet? Or new shoes?

I’m getting where I really look forward to our moderator’s commentary.

Obots better be careful or they’re going to push some of we ‘leave the top blank’ type PUMAs into McCain/Palin territory. I’m getting really, REALLY sick of seeing them use character assassination in their effort to claim they’re about “change”.

    Although, if this is true:

This is what worries me about folks who plan to vote N.O.T. If the Obama campaign is telling their trolls to push for 3rd party or stay home, don’t you think they have projections that say they would win?

I’m gonna vote McCain in any event. It’ll be my first GOP vote in 20 years, since I’ve been old enough to vote (save one against Marion Barry when I lived in D.C.)

GOD this emperor has no clothes. And no brain, if I may mix my metaphors for a moment.

  222. Still4Hil – feel the same way about choice. I have done my bit for decades. I found that most younger folk thought it was a non-issue.

To that recently interested group – talk to my hand.

  223. hmmm…48…I wonder, if we thought about that carefully, could such usernames teach us anything about why people aren’t on the hope and unity train? I wonder…

  224. Dee-Love ya!

  225. Still4Hill: I love it when we get lectured on the topic of choice by the ‘Bots.

I started doing abortion clinic defense back in the 80s. Against the likes of Randall Terry and the Lambs of God, at several clinics, including a location where the doc was shot a couple of years later.

Once, during an organized blockade of my town, which contained the clinic of a guy who did late term abortions, I was standing about 20 yards away from an acquaintance when she picked up an abandoned McDonald’s bag in the yard of the clinic – where the clinic-defense team had been mobilized – and noticed it felt heavy.

There was a hand grenade in it. I remember all of us being forced to clear the area – fast – while the woman I knew held stock still till the bomb squad could get there.

I’ve literally risked my life for this issue, more than once. I really don’t need lectures from anybody.

And in my mind? It just strengthens my resolve to stand up for women’s rights against those who abuse and degrade us, more than ever. It’s not my fault that some female members of the Obot zombie army have developed an advanced case of Stockholm Syndrome.

    Not now. Not ever. NObama.

  226. El: “GOD this emperor has no clothes. And no brain, if I may mix my metaphors for a moment.”

I’ve been saying here for awhile. If you want an historical parallel look to Henri Christophe en Haiti. This is who Barack thinks he is.

  227. Oh boy! Just caught the Weather Channel and one of the guys was in Ocean Isle NC and wind was blowing him away!

It looks like Hanna will be moving off the coast and up the coast so hope Gary and Mawm don’t get much of that mess.

  228. And another thing: it officially disgusts me to see people defend Obama – when in any other circumstance, they’d be screaming bloody murder over what happened to the Clintons during the primary. Over ANY aspect of it, in fact – the sexism, the character assassination, the outright cheating – but because it’s being perpetrated by the saintly Obama they’re all 100% prepared to give all of it a pass.

It’s the hypocrisy, stupid (this is not leveled at the lovely PUMAs, who truly ‘get it’.) But the Obots deserve whatever the hell they get. It’s a shame they chose to drag the rest of us down with them when they lined up behind this abhorrent excuse for a human being, but I refuse to accept one iota of blame for what will occur when they choices they made bloom to fruition.

  229. Still4Hill and Dee, me too.

So, they wanted to throw all us old irrelevant biddies under the bus, spit on us, tell us to get out of the way for their glorious Youth Revolution? They did not want our wisdom or counsel about the road they were going down, no matter how graciously offered. They were going to create a brave new world of hopenchange, where they could be finally FREE to be nasty little children of the corn all the livelong day, with no one with icky wrinkles to restrain them.

Oh, well. Hope your iPods are effective being used as an iud. Or close your legs – whatever. We tried to warn you. You should have thought about this before you decided to go up up and away in Obama’s beautiful balloon.

Fight your own fucking battles. Pay your own fucking dues. Learn some lessons about life, and politics, and how it is not all a joyride. I will still be here when you and the Democratic party decide you are ready to listen. Until then, get out of my face.

  230. Eleanor – You are a soldier. You probably don’t think so, but that’s who you are.

I am sick and tired of little girls who depend on us to do all th campaigning and voting.

When my mom was alive and there was a demonstration, she used to tell me,”You did that . You don’t have to go anymore” I was about 38 then,

Now I think a time is coming when I will have to go again. But it will not be for reproductive rights. I’ll let Jennifer deal with that. I don’t have a dog in this fight.

  231. See, to me, the thing is, do i care about choice? Yes. Is it too late now that we replaced o’connor with alito? Yes. O’Connor was bad enough, what with changing the standard to ‘undue burden’ in Casey and then never meeting a restriction she didn’t think was reasonable, but Kennedy is even more conservative, weak-willed, inclined to anti-woman stances, and inclined to be pushed around by the other justices. It’s too late, they already have the votes to overturn, and that’s that.

Had we fought alito and Roberts, we may have lost, but at least we’d have demonstrated we were serious on the issue. But we were more than happy to let them on, so I have to believe that we were delighted to have one more conservative Justice on balance to use as a scare tacic.

  232. wmcb: You’re so beautiful when you’re angry! Please let me write you in for VP….

  233. Yep. And I seem to recall it was Pelosi leading the charge and telling other Dems not to even put up a fight over the Roberts & Alito battles.

You know what? I truly think I’m an independent now, after being a dyed in the wool yellow dog Democrat for as long as I can remember.

I just didn’t sign up for this. Other Dems taking away our rights, and then blaming us for being angry about it.

  234. Alert to RiverDaughter – over at Democratic Underground McCamy Taylor has one of her longwinded posts up about propaganda. She links to The Confluence and claims that you write like a right wing propagandist. She is trying to prove that PUMAs are Republicans. Yawn…

Fortunately McCamy is not all that popular at DU because she is such a gas bag. However, you should still expect some DU brownshirts to arrive here and show their asses.

  235. Girls!

Please don’t change your registrations!! Please!

We have power in the Party on when we are IN the party. Otherwise, as I said earlier, we need a convention.

    Form another party? Maybe.

First, I say take back our own party! Let’s do it.

I just heard the reporter on NPR say that Sarah Palin “made fun of Obama’s community organizing.” I wonder whether they noted that Obama & co. threw the first bomb when they mocked her Mayorship of a small town. Don’t think so.

Mark Shields said with a very sad face that Palin had belittled Obama a couple of times during her acceptance speech. Poor Obama, poor Obama. Bad Sarah, bad Sarah don’t pick on fragile Barack.

  237. Also, the kos people have been promoting anti-choice Dems for years, screaming at any woman who has a problem with it, and also saying that we have to back off of support for reproductive rights because it doesn’t play with the electorate, so once again, not a lot of trust that they’re brave principled warriors or on my side.

  238. purple, Obama and the media are still playing the primary game. The man is incapable of shifting gears. This shit is not going to work in the general.

Whining works well on guilt-ridden limousine liberals. Truckdrivers in Ohio will just think he’s a candy-ass effete suit-wearing loafered joke.

In the general you go for RESPECT. Democrats never seem to learn this.

  239. And also, choice, will incredibly important, is not the only issue. Last I checked, handing them an ironclad 5-4 majority that seems likely to hang around for many, many years to come, also allows them to do pretty much, oh, WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT.

    Well done!

  240. Seriously and some right before: Did you ever imagine that we would still be doing this now?

Larry King asks M. Moore why didn’t he support Hillary “or we wouldn’t be in this mess” (words to that effect.).

The answer is not important. The question is gold.

    Thank you , Larry!

  241. Seriously, they didn’t worry about being strong on choice when they invited fucking Bob Casey to speak at the convention, did they? Or had pro-life ministers heading up their little cozy faith forum.

  242. wmcb- Reminds me of the brat in A League of Their Own – You’re gonna lose.

    So much self-esteem!

  243. WMCB, well said!

Still4Hill – “Thank you , Larry!” Wish I’d seen that. Although where was Larry during the primary when that might have made a difference?

  244. WMCB, I’m in PA. I voted for Casey in order to get rid of Santorem. I look forward to voting him out.

  245. Bob Casey, their hero. He’s good on important things, things that affcet men, so suck it, ladies! Oh whoops, turns out he’s not so good on those important things either–but that’s okay. He’s got he only qualification that matters.

But i love the part where they say ‘screw choice, don’t don’t base their votes on that issue so we need to throw it under the bus,’ then try to shame anyone who says she’ll vote on it as ‘single-issue purity trolls with dirty girl principles.’ lol

  246. purple – You got me there I was hanging out at MSNBC wondering why everybody was bashing Hill.

But since last night, a lot of the LK types are asking that question.

  247. *sighs* You were doing all right, then you had to say ‘anti-thesis,’ didn’t you? Merriam-webster online, for all your useage related needs!

  248. Jennifer, dear – We are feminists – even the guys. Most of us fought very hard for choice. It’s really not our battle anymore – it’s yours. Take up the standard with your cohort or get you glass of milk and go to bed.

  249. All right, all right, but that’s a typo, not an extraneous hyphen! There’s a difference! LOL

  250. Seriously – Who said that? The whirring sound you hear is Hegel spinning in his grave.

  251. I love trolls because they are so much fun to play with!

Jennifer – Who is selling out? I consider you to be a sellout if you are voting for Obama for anything other than pure Obama-love. He is not a fighter. He can’t get any of the things Hillary was for. He also hasn’t proven that he’s really a Democrat since he’s been drifting to the right ever since the primaries ended.

If I’m going to vote for a Republican, I’m going to vote for a REAL republican. McCain may not be perfect, but I can live with McCain. I think McCain may turn out to be one of the better presidents we have had because McCain is fearless. Obama is not fearless.

    You’re dismissed.

  252. Jennifer Coles – Perhaps you’re sincere in your concern about reproductive rights. I care too. But Roe, Roe, Roe my vote won’t cut it now.

I’m in it for democracy. I’m not sure you’ve been listening to the posters and commenters here. Sure Hillary was the best, that’s why McCain, Obama, Biden are imitating her – “fight for you” (Obama/Biden), Obama has co-opted her agenda, “work for you” (McCain).

She’s still influential and will remain so. But she’s not running. No one’s running that I can believe in – McCain”s wrong on the issues. Obama is parroting the issues – inspires no confidence in me.

Roe, Roe, Roe – oh, no!

  253. Still4Hill

Did you post on TL? If you did, under what name?

I’ve noticed that they are missing some of their posters lately and I thought some of them may have migrated over here… Posting there was like walking on eggshells or across a minefield. But they had a very cool community for awhile.

  254. Gracie – Fearless – good point. Obama is fearful.

  255. Jennifer, fuck off. YOU are the one who stomped in here with an attitude and a demand. Now you are going to get pissy and puffed up because people responded badly to that?

Grow the hell up. Learn some manners. Take your little entitled Obama girl behind away and figure out that the world is not your oyster, and someone is not always going to bail you out or clean up your messes. Decisions have consequences. You decided to back a candidate who has zippo chance of being elected in this country. Deal with it. I owe you nothing.

Your shock and outrage is understandable, because you have grown up in a culture that tells you every day that you are the center of the universe. Well guess what? You are not. Mommy and daddy may have spent your formative years trying really hard to be your friend, and quailing in fear and caving in every time you got “upset” with them or twisted that gulit-knife, but I am not your mommy.

Go text someone what a mean old witch I am. Do you think I care? Grow the fuck up. You are not a princess, and life is hard.

  256. i know, I was thinking maybe she could play it off like, “Hegel actually used a hyphen! You can’t have a thesis without an anti-thesis!”

  257. I like Biden! Unfortunately, he’s not running for President.

I simply can’t bring myself to vote for Obama.

  258. Gracie – Nope. Actually rather new to blogging because I never Imagined how i would have the time – which I don’t. 🙂

  259. WMCB

Wow! Way to rap them on the knuckles!

  260. I don’t really consider this “blogging.” This is a “bulletin board” style forum where it’s like posting on a bulletin board. Everyone gets to read what everyone else writes above them.

    I like bulletin boards!

I usually only post about politics close to elections (significant elections) — otherwise I don’t pay a lot of attention to politics.

  261. Wow, you do? Are you one of the 9500?

  262. (not to get too personal :))

  263. Jennifer: you’re confusing me for someone who gives a damn. Ha. Not really, but I just wanted to say that. I give a damn, that’s why I’m trying to save my sorry ass party.

Still4Hill: you can adopt me anytime. 🙂

  264. Ooooh, time to edit Jennifer’s entries. Let’s have a contest for what they should be. Mommy issues is always a winner. This one’s kind of angry, and trying to teach. Or really punish. Hmm, maybe “she” is a dominatrix. Yes, that’s it. Hello, my name is Jennifer Coles, I have dominatrix issues. 🙂

  265. LOL It’s more about trying to seem well-informed and intelligent when you’re lecturing everyone else on what they should do. If you have a case to make based on Obams’s accomplishments or something substantive, try making it. Otherwise, most people are not going to vote based on “Ooh, I talked to a lady with a strong sense of entitlement and an anger management problem who made a lot of basic errors and basically just said vote Obama or you’re a poopy; therefore, I’m voting Obama.”

  266. Oh, look, the Obama gurl still thinks she has the right to lecture us on what we have learned in the last 8 years.

Sweetie, my memory goes back a hell of a lot longer than 8 years. You are an ignorant child. Again, grow up. Learn something. Study some political history other than wikipedia. I have seen your kind come and go, I have watched you have to learn the same damn lessons over and over, through many cycles.

You think you are different? That your blind children’s crusade for a sweet-talking messiah is something NEW? No, honey, it is not. I hate to break it to you, but your story is old old news. I have seen it before. I appreciate your idealism, but you really do need to grow the hell up.

  267. Issues? Did someone say “Issues”? Who needs issues, when my candidate can just call anyone who disagrees with him a racist?

(Comment edited to eliminate boring lecture)

  268. It’s been fun. Night all.

  269. Gracie7, just so you know, I’m not being a smartass there, just curious. Biden got literally no votes in my small town, and I’ve never talked to anyone who supported him before. I even know Richardson voters, and I don’t hold it against them. 🙂 Sorry if it came across that way or you felt put on the spot.

  270. Oh Jen, no! Don’t break your streak of idiotic non-postings! You even spellled “issues” correctly, girl, we’re proud of you!

  271. Um, and actually? No one did say “issues.”

You might want to be careful about listening to the voices in your head. I’m not sure they’re your friends.

  272. Seriously,

Did you say something about Biden?

I just like him personally. I’ve never voted for him since I was a Hillary voter — but he’s always seemed like a nice person. Very above board. If he were legitimately our candidate, I would vote for him. To me, he’s similar to Gore and no worse than Kerry.

I like him much better than Richardson. 1000% better.

  273. Your ignorance continues to be on prominent display, Jennifer. If it didn’t happen 5 minutes ago, then you are incapable of digesting or comprehending it.

We have many issues, Jennifer. We have talked about them til we are blue in the face, for over a year.

Educate yourself, child. I’m not giving you the damn Cliff’s notes.

  274. Here is the link for the health care for kids that Obama is trying to take credit for.

    Click to access 4-2_AllKidsHealthInsuranceIllinois_kc.pdf

He did not start this. I live in Illinois, and I was at a meeting for this initiative where they said he was going to show up and give his support, but he never showed up for any of the meetings. It was organized by concerned local church organizations who were worried about the local kids in East St Louis not having any healthcare.

He had just won the Senate seat, and never bothered again to show any concern for his Illinois constituency. Instead, Gov Blagonevich stepped in and made it a reality.

You will note that the law and program were voted on and enacted after he went to Washington. Obama is once again trying to take credit for something other people actually did.

  275. Jennifer:
Are you getting paid by the line? Cuz you could just read some of the earlier statements about the key issues for the PUMAs and save us all a bunch of time–e.g., respect. Respect for knowledge, experience, leadership, hard work—something that the DNC (and the Obama) neglected to show for ANYONE other than Obama. I am not interested in your silly judgements about my motivations—until you can demonstrate RESPECT for my voice and opinion. Good nite all!

  276. Jennifer thinks we hold a “silly grudge.”

  277. Yeah, I asked if you were one of the 9500, then realized it could sound smartass. But I didn’t mean it like that!

Vote Obama, the Issues Candidate. “Uhhhh, erm, ehhh, what she said” is apparently his main policy position.

  278. I admit it. I’m the one who needs to grow up, get over it, and move on.

  279. “Vote for Obama. The steaks are to hi.”

I could be an Obama poster too. Want me to text this to ya?

  280. “Obama, if your issues involve mommy, he’s your guy!”

  281. Riverdaughter, wanted you to be the first to see:

  282. “We’re sick of the same old, same old. We want the country to progress.”

Okay, now I feel bad about apologizing for my generation. That’s like, genius, man. McCain is like uggs, does anybody wear uggs anymore? That’s so last season. And if you’re not going forward, you might be going backward. It’s always darkest before the dawn. Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow or You May Be So Yesterday!

  283. Jennifer Jennifer Jennifer. You are cute. You really are. But Obama is a move in the worst direction possible. He is not what you think he is, which is why he will lose.

I know it is difficult, but you need to realize you have failed. Yes, honey, you have. You will figure it out eventually, and you will figure out what sort of candidate we need to get genuine change. But it’s going to be a hard road.

You have failed sweetie. As has your pied piper. One day you will realize that this is a good thing. He could’ve destroyed this country.

  284. McCain is like an antiques shop–the stuff in there is OLD, DIRTY, and BANGED UP. And DUSTY. Obama is like if they opened a brand new mall and everything in it is all shiny and new. Like, you are the first person ever to walk into Lisa Klein or Betsey Johnson. We need to move ahead, like if they built an IKEA next to the Cheesecake Factory!!!

He looks like Mr. Magoo. There’s a reason why they stopped showing the Mr. Magoo Xmas special. No one LIKES Magoo. It’s not progress.

  285. Ever heard of a “snake oil salesman”? Obama is a snake oil salesman. He won’t cure your ills. He’s selling you a bottle of poop with a different name on it.

His kind have been around *since forever* which is why us old coots ain’t buying it anymore. We didn’t buy GWB either.

  286. Ohhhhh! Obama is like Ikea furniture! And McCain is like old Ethan Allen!

Once the rain hits Obama, the fancy pine colored paper will peel off his exterior and you’ll be looking at particle board!! McCain is made out of real wood!!!

  287. If this “New America” means voter fraud is an acceptable means to an end, count me out.

  288. Jennifer, you get an entire set of free ginsu knives with Obama.

  289. Jennifer:
Not all change is progress. We old folks know that. That is why you need us around–cuz we can make the distinction BEFORE we screw up. We know that just because we learned it through EXPERIENCE–e.g., just because we moved around a bunch doesn’t mean that we actually went forward. Young folks LEARN to tell the difference AFTER you screw up. I am not willing to gamble my children’s future on Obama and his supporters LEARNING to tell the difference. Yes we need progress–but you better have someone in the White house who can make sure that we are moving forward and not just moving around.

  290. He’s a limited edition coin by the Franklin Mint, but you must call now.

  291. Oh no, Jen! I don’t want to play that game! You’re scaring me! Stop!

I’m not talking down to you because you didn’t proofread your comment. (And you’re going to start talking down to me? You’ve been talking down to everyone here since you showed up.) I’m mocking you because you barge into other people’s spaces and demand that people listen to you and do what you tell them in the most high handed way possible. I don’t care if you listen to me, but apparently you do. So if you want people to listen to you, stop saying stupid things about “progress” and explain why Obama represents progress.

Why will McCain get us into a war with Iran when Obama just last night refused to rule out war with Iran and has also sabre rattled over Pakistan?

How is Obama going to protect chocie when it’s too late, he refused to filibuster Roberts and Alito, and his aides actually had to practically physically restrain him from voting for Roberts?

How about giving us something that makes actual sense?

  292. WMBC, Seriously, Gracie7–you all rock tonight (this morning)-gotta got to bed to get up in a few hours…

  293. WMCB–I am sleepy-:)

  294. McCain is a smart old coot.

    He picked Palin.

Palin stole Obama’s press. Palin is the new “Media Sensation.”

But McCain picked her because McCain is old and smart.

    Vote McCain.

  295. A vote for Obama/Biden is a vote for electoral theft, corruption and corporatism all rolled up into one, and it makes a mockery of actual reform-minded candidates and of the mantle of progressive thought. You’re on some exceedingly thin ice with your finger-shaking and tut-tutting, and it’s actually pretty amusing that you can’t even see it.

  296. *sighs* So in other words, you have nothing?

Mccain, evil, yes, we got it, onboard. What you need to do is try and demonstrate how Obama will be different. And that super silliness over the vote fraud, probably a poor start.

  297. Jennifer,

McCain tricked the Obama camp with the Palin pick.

    Obama has tricked no one.

I’d prefer to bet on the guy who can trick the opposition when it comes to keeping us out of war. McCain is nobody’s dummy.

Obama is a dummy. McCain tricked him and his campaign by picking Palin. The Obama campaign was totally unprepared for that.

You vote how you want — but if you want to vote for the smartest, most strategic person, you should vote for McCain. He might be able to trick Russia out of War too. After all, countries have been tricked throughout history.

  298. (Heh. I’ve got a pretty good one on her asinine “grudge” comment coming, but it’s sitting in the moderation queue…)

  299. Well, good. Obama, pointed out that his position on the war is no different from Bush’s, and just said yesterday the surge is a riproaring success, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t do anything about it, right?

  300. you can try to get yourself out of moderation by putting breaks in any work you think might have got you in there.

  301. Breaks? Like just a space between letters?

It was a pretty long post, I honestly don’t know what the auto-mod triggers are…sigh

  302. A$$? Sh!t maybe?

  303. Huh. I didn’t realize I was “moaning” about voter fraud.

Jennifer, understand this, if nothing else. If votes don’t count then nothing does. If you think this is just about the popular vote, you have a lot of learning to do. Obama is a crook. He lies. He has thugs who intimidate voters. I went through the Texas caucuses and saw it with my own eyes.

Now, today you’re on his side. So one day when you’re not on his side about something, and you get the strong arm treatment to shut up, sit down, and get over it, maybe you won’t think this “grudge” is quite so silly.

You paint a very scary picture of McCain. The problem is, of the choices I have this fall, one has already stolen something from me, and the other has not.

  304. Hmmm. Nope. Tried the $$ and ! treatment and it’s still moderated. 😦

  305. (trying again)

And give us a break about this “silly grudge” thing. Frankly, you can kiss my a$$. I’ve given this Party nearly six figures in actual money and in hours worked over the last 20 years. You guys are burning down something that’s very important to me, and hundreds of thousands of other people like me. You’re making a very foolish mistake.

I care not what you think about me and fellow PUMAs; you have no business questioning my credentials or lecturing me about some high-minded principles on which you claim you and the Bot army have the monopoly.
You guys don’t think we can take this election away from you, and you think you can sh it all over the best President of, oh, my personal entire lifetime, and completely disrespect a completely legitimate candidate whose high-heeled pumps Obama isn’t qualified to shine.

I know you’ll call me a rac!st for that last comment, and frankly I got this for you: You guys are about to get a gigantic, really ugly surprise when McCain starts running the Mandingo-styled advertising coast to coast. Here’s a hint for you: Republicans, unlike other Democrats, don’t give a sh it when you call them racists. The card you’ve been playing for months is going to run out of steam very soon.

And don’t come crying to us to bail you guys out, for another six months or so at least. SOMEbody is gonna have to pull the Party out of the ditch once Precious takes an electoral dirt nap and the likes of Dean and Brazile are shunted off to the slagheap of history. But I don’t think any of us are gonna want to get our fingernails dirty until all three of them are far, far, far away from anything to do with Democratic Party leadership or rule-making.

The time to fix all this was months ago; you broke it; you bought it. Frankly, I’m going to laugh my a$$ off in December when you folks finally realize all the talk about CHANGE was just more flimflam from a guy who said it to all the other girls he dated before you.

  306. Maybe it’s just post length that does it…?

  307. And that is honestly a big reason why Obama scares people. Because he’s so at odds with the picture his supporters have of him, and they are so willing to overlook his faults. Today we overlook disenfrachisment. Tomorrow we overlook misogyny. What do we overlook the next day? My father is an Obot, and I know that if Obama chose to invade Pakistan, he’d be repeating talking points about how “Obama chose to invade BECAUSE he is anti-war” or “McCain would have invaded Pakistan WORSE.”

  308. I don’t think it’s length, but there are some really random words that will get you in there. 🙂 The longer the post the more likely you’ll hit on them.

  309. Try to think of words that people would use to attack Clinton.

  310. I don’t think McCain is “very scary.”

Have you listened to what everyone has said?

Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Joe Lieberman, and everyone else has said that McCain is a good man. That’s code words for “Vote for him.”

McCain is only scary to Obama because he threatens the very idea of Obama “moving on up.”

McCain can work well with almost anyone. I’m willing to give him a chance.

Listen, I think the whole political process should be reworked. The popular vote should decide things. Period. Then Al Gore would have won in 2000. And Hilary would have most likely won the nomination and be battling McCain and Palin now. How many nice things would you have to say about them then? I would actually rather see a Clinton/Obama ticket, or an Obama/Clinton ticket. But that’s not what happened.

Now your [sic ]set to vote for a man that’s ready to bring back the draft, pull the US[sic] out of the UN [sic], start a League of Democracies, and divide the world up Cold War style. And while you moan about ‘voter fraud’ people are going to die. McCain promises to make America safe but he’s only going to antoganize other countries, which is going to make America less safe. Don’t you know the game that Republicans play?

Jennifer, why not be a good troll and cite specifics to: the draft, pulling U.S. of the U.N., starting a league of democracies, etc.

When we stop caring about voter fraud in this country (i.e. a stolen nomination) then we lose our country as a democracy.

Hopefully the mods will come in later today and clean out the drivel.

  312. Gracie7, I don’t think he’s very scary either. I was referring to Jennifer’s laundry list of things she thinks McCain would do if elected.

Actually, I was quite surprised by how much I liked McCain after his speech Thursday night. He was calling on all of us to put party aside and put America first, and after the way the dems have treated me this year, I was very receptive to that argument.

For a former yellow dog dem like me, it was quite a moment.

  313. Personally, I think Mccain is very scary. However, I’m more scared of Obama, because he thinks he can get away with anything and has the Obot army backing him no matter what. That reminds me of Bush more than anything else, starting out with vote fraud, proceeding to Messiah Complex, and ending with “I want to be Emperor of the World.”

  314. Well, and let’s just try a hypothetical. The chair of the DNC is not accountable to voters except indirectly, through state Executive Committees (which are usually larded with good ole boy types). Let’s say a chair from Texas gets in, and is given gobs of money to grease the skids to elect Karl Rove, who’s suffered a sudden change of heart and wants to run for the Presidency as a Democrat.

Do we sit down and shut up? Or do we fight like hell?

The scenario we’re facing now holds every bit of the gravity as the scenario above. Either we rubber stamp corporatism, corruption and cheating, or we stand up to it.

Trying again on my original post…think I’ll slice it into sections and see if that works…

“And give us a break about this “silly grudge” thing. Frankly, you can kiss my a$$. I’ve given this Party nearly six figures in actual money and in hours worked over the last 20 years. You guys are burning down something that’s very important to me, and hundreds of thousands of other people like me. You’re making a very foolish mistake.

Here’s a hint for you: Republicans, unlike other Democrats, don’t give a sh it when you call them rac!sts. The card you’ve been playing for months is going to run out of steam very soon.

Frankly, I’m going to laugh my a$$ off in December when you folks finally realize all the talk about CHANGE was just more flimflam from a guy who said it to all the other girls he dated before you.”

(think I just missed one of the ‘rac!st’s and landed up in mod)

  317. I was receptive to the “America first” argument too. Plus, I remember the McCain pre-2000 and he was a really moderate fellow.

And then, I went out and read a bunch about McCain recently and he thinks Theodore Roosevelt was the greatest president ever. Theodore Roosevelt was a Progressive president who fought for progressive things.

And then I read about McCain’s background. How McCain has always lived with money (his mother was really rich, evidentally). And McCain thinks that people only need a certain amount to live on. He doesn’t relate to unlimited wealth. That kind of blew me away. And he believes that legislation is needed to stop runaway executive pay. (Yes!!!!!!! To that idea!!!!:)

And I kind of ended up feeling like McCain is not our worst nightmare. In fact, McCain might be exactly what we need to clean up Washington. He’s never worried about anger from various parts of either party. He’s not a Nancy Pelosi, a Harry Reid, or a George Bush. (cough, cough)

Now he’s trying to reclaim his Maverick image and I’m behind him. I think he’ll be okay. I don’t think he’ll try to mess with things like Roe v. Wade because I think his aims are higher on the other sides of government. I believe he truly wants to put our fiscal/diplomatic houses in good order.

I’m less worried about McCain started a stupid war than I am about Obama starting one.

  318. Yellow dog Dems are just like us Moderate Dems. Kinda/Sorta. I mean, we’re democrats but we’re a little more middle of the road. 😉

  319. I’ve voted Democrat for president since 1976 and I think this is the first time I’ve voted outside of the Democratic Party.

I can’t believe I’m doing this but I don’t feel like the Dems left me much choice.

They circumvented the process (the roll call at the convention for one) and basically picked the person the leadership wanted — and I can’t go along with that. I’m ANGRY over how they have treated voters.

Like a lot of women, I don’t riot, I don’t protest,I don’t do anything. I expect to make a vote in November count as my protest.

  320. Jennifer — who are Obama’s economic advisors and what school of thought are they products of?

  321. No Quarter has posted the text of Sarah Palin’s weekly radio broadcast.

Is she going to do this every week? I hope so.

For one thing, it’s clever marketing of the “Sarah” brand. For another it will annoy Obama, especially when the media reports the ratings.

They really know how to get under Obama’s skin.

  322. Fox and Friends:

US Weekly tanked for their cover of Sarah. People are outraged and canceled their subscriptions and didn’t buy the magazine.

The Owner of the Magazine is a staunch BO supporter. I hope BO can support him now.

  323. News Flash for Obama:

Since you chose once more to play the race card with your pathetic “funny name” and “don’t look like the other President” comments, you certainly don’t look like any “future President” either.

    So go FYS.

  324. Gary and Mawm – how are you?

  325. Yeah, Carol, I watched that on Fox myself. And totally agreed with the coverage.

Our world has turned upside-down, indeed.

  326. Obama campaign decided to treat Sarah as “pne of the guys” as Obama declared yesterday: hence, she’s a bad parent

  327. Also, on CNN last night, they reported the Obama camp has been harassing the Police Union for information in Alaska. These people need to go down big time.

  328. Ugh, more Chicago tactics. I hope my vote matters.

  329. The following post has done a good job of rebutting the Palin smears as perpetuated by the blogger boyz.

  330. I am sick of the media making a rock star out of Casey Anthony. These people are sick.

  331. I hope Bristal is going to college.

  332. I despise Casey Anthony and her mother as well. These parents appear to have overlooked her bad behavior for years and made excuses for everything she did or did not do. As long as they continue to “support” her specious claims the longer this sociopath will hold out.

That baby is dead by her mother’s hand. Accident or otherwise, she acted in a manner suggesting something more suspect. Somewhere that child is lying in a unmarked grave while her mother and grandmother pretend victimization. They are both equally responsible for holding onto a lie that will soon prove false.

Casey is a lying piece of rot but her mother is not far behind. She has aided and abetted this behavior for years.

  333. I am waiting for the cable guy to show up. Sometime between now and sundown.

  334. Paging Jennifer Cole’s attendant (at 2:59) – she has escaped again.

  335. I am assuming that Rick Davis will allow a 3 day “race card” rant by BO starting yesterday going thru the weekend and hit BO upside the head with it on Monday Morning.

  336. Anyone who didn’t read the “Open Thread: Runaway Train” at TL from last nite, go read it. All of it. I’m still shaking my head.

  337. Hi.

“They’re trying to make you unsure about me,” he told the Duryea workers. They won’t be sorry, he promised, “if you give me this opportunity.”

  338. “Take a Chance On Me”

  339. hi anybody got a credible link on palin’s views on creationism being taught in schools…I had read a post somewhere that she wasn’t against evolution being taught but was for other ideas to also be included if thats what constituents wanted…. the post I read opined that this was virtually the same as Obamas position but its hard to find real information obscured by all the propaganda.

  340. Good morning! NPR’s Obama crush has been getting to me all primary season and they’re at it again. Here’s what I wrote them this morning:

“Please do continue to defend Obama from Palin. I heard someone note this morning that Palin made fun of Obama’s work as a community organizer. But didn’t he cast the first stone when he made light of her work as the mayor of a small town? Did you take him to task for that? No? Well, Obama is fragile, so perhaps he does need more help. I guess Sarah can take care of herself. Poor Obama.”

  341. Country First: Earning The Right To Lead.

    The Lady And The Warrior

That is our duty, to build that bright future, and to teach our children that in America there is no chasm too deep, no barrier too great – and no ceiling too high – for all who work hard, never back down, always keep going, have faith in God, in our country, and in each other.

If you hear the dogs, keep going.

If you see the torches in the woods, keep going.

If they’re shouting after you, keep going.

    Don’t ever stop. Keep going.

If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.

Even in the darkest of moments, ordinary Americans have found the faith to keep

I’m an American, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth, and with hard work, strong faith and a little courage, great things are always within our reach. Fight with me. Fight with me.

Fight for what’s right for our country.

Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.

    Fight for our children future.

Fight for justice and opportunity for all.

Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.

Stand up for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.

Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We’re Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.

John Sydney McCain Will Earn The Right To lead By The Voters.

  342. GAgal made me do it….

OK, so according to the new and improved Jeralyn (aka rumour-mongering (although-she-is-eally-against-it) Jeralyn) some Canadian journalist reports that some waitress, too afraid to openly discuss it, overheard Palin saying to some colleagues over lunch: “So Sambo beat the bitch!”

    If so, it is despicable.

However, what I really want to know is…1) when during the convention did Jeralyn’s pod hatch and, 2) where did many of the more “decent” commenters at TL go?

Sadly, TL, is undergoing a transformation very similar to TM.

    Pod people scare me.

  343. OMG, Jeralyn has lost it! By the way, Marc Ambinder posted something about Obama pushing surrogates with the Eagleton comparison. Now, Jeralyn came out with that one the first day Palin was picked. So it looks to me like Jeralyn’s is on the receiving end of a direct line from Obama’s campaign dirt.

  344. UpstateNY, it could be true, but it doesn’t sound like Palin. One, she does have respect for Hillary. Two, she seems to prefer a lighter touch – or at least delivering a “knockout punch” with a smile.

I’d prefer “on the record” comments. We’ve got so much to speculate about already.

I’m a BuzzFlash and TM refugee. It is sad to see once vital sites veer to Obama. 😦

  345. I’ve been trying to post over at TL but unable. What happens when Jeralyn closes your account, do you get a message or anything? I’m wondering if she’s shut me down.

I’m wondering what news source isn’t receiving Obama talking points? The Republicans have always done a good job with spin.

  347. It’s not true. It’s absurd. This has the stench of tipgate, also completely unfounded, twisted story.

  348. Re: TL
Please.. I know very little about Palin, but think about it. Can you look at her and believe Sambo and bitch would come out of her mouth in the same sentence? I can read people better than that even in this crazy election. Jeralyn has lost it. Did you see where she was asking for questions for her Salon article? ugh

  349. My favorite Obamabot commenter at TL is Gently Weeping Guitar. I’m still a member, but I don’t post there anymore. I just read for sh!ts and giggles. Funniest comment of last night was one where GWG lectures another poster for not speaking up when a pastor made a derogatory racial remark.

  350. Ha! You deleted my post! Does the truth hurt? BTW Many of Obama’s advisors are from Bill Clinton’s Administration. They know what they’re doing; Furthermore, Obama would never tell anyone that their economic problems are “psychological.”

  351. stillife,
I know. I saw that exchange w/ GWG and LMAO!!

  352. Oh Yay! Jennifer’s back! Ya’ know why O’s advisor’s are from the Clinton’s administration? Cause he doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing without them.
He’s a lost little babe in the woods! That’s why he chose Biden whose been in the Senate since Barack was 12!! Barack is in over his head! Yay! Happy Day for America!!

  353. Jennifer said:

They’re the B Team. The A Team stayed with Hillary.

  354. Jennifer sweety darling you are so wrong about Obama I hope to see you crying in the Iowa cornfield when Obambi the unfit loses on November 5th. (see my long comment on next thread you slow starter)

We dont allow Men to pose a s girls here unless the do it proffessionally! That is why you post a pile of rabbitt pellets was removed-

Why do Obot Bois take on female persona’s on the blog? sad so sad!

  355. Jeralyn, Taylor Marsh and Digby are exactly who they have been the entire time.

The first time I went to read something at Digby was the day of the LA earthquake. She is a r*cist plain and simple. I went there that day because people were referring to her site.

I read Taylor Marsh for about 2 weeks because she was referenced by people on http://www.hillaryclinton.com. She allowed lies and hate mongering to stand unchallenged. And, then on the last day of the Primaries, she quickly turned like a wild animal in the early stages of rabies into the full blown disease. However, to her credit, she had declared all along she was a Democrat first and she would support the Candidate that was the nominee. I am not the Carol that is commenting on her site, I would not waste my time.

I’ve only looked at Jeralyn in the last 10 days. It is disgusting and that vile behavior is just now directed at a different target.

I just watched Bill Maher. Michael Steele looked like he wanted to stand up and leave. He should have. Kerry Washington was a hateful, rude, blathering ill informed mouth piece for Obama. I thought Bill’s show was cancelled. I certainly won’t look again as he continued to insist Palin’s baby was her daughter’s.

McCain needs to win. These creeps need to go down in flames.

  356. fred – Thanks for your comments.

  357. I would like to know how this do nothing Congress gets away with blaming everything on Bush?

  358. TL — all the thoughtful commenters (almost) have fled to a separate refuge. There were a few left yesterday trying to argue for sense, but the site has been overwhelmed with people who are obot cheerleaders and those (inexplicably to me) sucking up to Jeralyn.

She has some gig at Salon now, and needs TL to be a comment-farm for ideas for her articles. Even a couple of long-time Obama supporters were looking around and asking where all the commenters have gone.

It’s too bad, because it really was one of the few sites where both sides’ supporters could engage in civil conversation, if a little raucously. Now it’s just all happy agreement, no one objecting to weak arguments or her trafficking in tawdry sources (National Enquirer, random Alaskan waitresses), except a few remaining brave souls.

  359. Jennifer said:

I know! That’s why it was so vile yet hilarious that BO tried to sell himself as change in DC against the “old” “failed” Clinton politics. It was one of many things that convinced me he was a lying, slimy hypocrite. I remember that talking point about the dynasties, in particular. They howled, oh how Club BO howled, about how they wanted no more dynasties, comparing HRC to years of Bush!

Now that they need to use HRC yet again, because BO is incapable of doing anything on his own, they’re howling for her help.

  360. When Jeralyn shuts you down at TL, you can still login, but when you click on the link to the comments, you get a blank. And no, she doesn’t always tell you she’s going to do it. If she’s banned you, you’re in good company. She’s chased most everyone with anything worth saying away. I still read BTD’s posts, but Jeralyn has gone over the edge. I’d like to know who was refused credentials to the convention so that she could post pictures of Arianna and describe hors d’oeuvres she was eating. I’m sure there was someone who was refused admittance who would have, you know, actually blogged. BTW, “goldberry”, I’m surprised she hasn’t kicked you out yet, or maybe she’s afraid of what you’ll write about if she does.

    Palin: wrong woman, wrong message

Sarah Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.
    By Gloria Steinem

    September 4, 2008

Here’s the good news: Women have become so politically powerful that even the anti-feminist right wing — the folks with a headlock on the Republican Party — are trying to appease the gender gap with a first-ever female vice president. We owe this to women — and to many men too — who have picketed, gone on hunger strikes or confronted violence at the polls so women can vote. We owe it to Shirley Chisholm, who first took the “white-male-only” sign off the White House, and to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who hung in there through ridicule and misogyny to win 18 million votes.

But here is even better news: It won’t work. This isn’t the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It’s about making life more fair for women everywhere. It’s not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It’s about baking a new pie.

Selecting Sarah Palin, who was touted all summer by Rush Limbaugh, is no way to attract most women, including die-hard Clinton supporters. Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Clinton. Her down-home, divisive and deceptive speech did nothing to cosmeticize a Republican convention that has more than twice as many male delegates as female, a presidential candidate who is owned and operated by the right wing and a platform that opposes pretty much everything Clinton’s candidacy stood for — and that Barack Obama’s still does. To vote in protest for McCain/Palin would be like saying, “Somebody stole my shoes, so I’ll amputate my legs.”

This is not to beat up on Palin. I defend her right to be wrong, even on issues that matter most to me. I regret that people say she can’t do the job because she has children in need of care, especially if they wouldn’t say the same about a father. I get no pleasure from imagining her in the spotlight on national and foreign policy issues about which she has zero background, with one month to learn to compete with Sen. Joe Biden’s 37 years’ experience.

Palin has been honest about what she doesn’t know. When asked last month about the vice presidency, she said, “I still can’t answer that question until someone answers for me: What is it exactly that the VP does every day?” When asked about Iraq, she said, “I haven’t really focused much on the war in Iraq.”

She was elected governor largely because the incumbent was unpopular, and she’s won over Alaskans mostly by using unprecedented oil wealth to give a $1,200 rebate to every resident. Now she is being praised by McCain’s campaign as a tax cutter, despite the fact that Alaska has no state income or sales tax. Perhaps McCain has opposed affirmative action for so long that he doesn’t know it’s about inviting more people to meet standards, not lowering them. Or perhaps McCain is following the Bush administration habit, as in the Justice Department, of putting a job candidate’s views on “God, guns and gays” ahead of competence. The difference is that McCain is filling a job one 72-year-old heartbeat away from the presidency.

So let’s be clear: The culprit is John McCain. He may have chosen Palin out of change-envy, or a belief that women can’t tell the difference between form and content, but the main motive was to please right-wing ideologues; the same ones who nixed anyone who is now or ever has been a supporter of reproductive freedom. If that were not the case, McCain could have chosen a woman who knows what a vice president does and who has thought about Iraq; someone like Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison or Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine. McCain could have taken a baby step away from right-wing patriarchs who determine his actions, right down to opposing the Violence Against Women Act.

Palin’s value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women’s wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves “abstinence-only” programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use taxpayers’ millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn’t spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.

I don’t doubt her sincerity. As a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assn., she doesn’t just support killing animals from helicopters, she does it herself. She doesn’t just talk about increasing the use of fossil fuels but puts a coal-burning power plant in her own small town. She doesn’t just echo McCain’s pledge to criminalize abortion by overturning Roe vs. Wade, she says that if one of her daughters were impregnated by rape or incest, she should bear the child. She not only opposes reproductive freedom as a human right but implies that it dictates abortion, without saying that it also protects the right to have a child.

So far, the major new McCain supporter that Palin has attracted is James Dobson of Focus on the Family. Of course, for Dobson, “women are merely waiting for their husbands to assume leadership,” so he may be voting for Palin’s husband.

Being a hope-a-holic, however, I can see two long-term bipartisan gains from this contest.

Republicans may learn they can’t appeal to right-wing patriarchs and most women at the same time. A loss in November could cause the centrist majority of Republicans to take back their party, which was the first to support the Equal Rights Amendment and should be the last to want to invite government into the wombs of women.

And American women, who suffer more because of having two full-time jobs than from any other single injustice, finally have support on a national stage from male leaders who know that women can’t be equal outside the home until men are equal in it. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are campaigning on their belief that men should be, can be and want to be at home for their children.

    This could be huge.

  362. Also sad over the TL thing. Not that I’m directly accusing anyone of anything, but I’ve seen people do rapid changes of heart when they’ve been promised something (cushy job, special access) by a political campaign. Just sayin’.

Neo-Marxist Steinem, notorious for her leading role in the human sacrifice of over 40 million Christian children, had gone into hiding. Palin with a flame-thrower brought the witch out screaming, to be bayoneted by Reagan Conservatives.

  364. If I may weigh in a bit…

It seems to me that the ONLY way to ‘recover’ is to defeat Barky in November – someone herein had it exactly right: let Barky and ‘his Makers’ take ultimate responsibility for losing the ‘done-deal’ 2008 election – and they will have to, as the press will EXCORIATE them!

Come 2012, enter Hillary, Stage Left…
