Fair is Fair!

If you are a feminist, womanist, or a liberal/progressive who thinks women should cast their votes based solely or primarily on “woman’s issues” then you cannot rightfully criticize any woman who casts her vote in order to help a woman break the glass ceiling and become the first female Vice President.

If you have argued or agreed with the idea that there is nothing wrong with African Americans voting for for an African American candidate over a white candidate, even if the white candidate has a longer record of working to advance the interests of African Americans and advocates policies that are more beneficial to the African American community, then you are a hypocrite if you criticize a woman who votes for another woman based on gender, even if the male candidate advocates policies that a more beneficial to women.

As a white male, I don’t have a dog in this fight.  I have never criticized the overwhelming support given to Barack Obama by the African American community.  I think it is perfectly logical and reasonable for them to support an African American candidate in the hope of seeing him become the first African American President of the United States.  I also understand why so many women supported Hillary Clinton.

My issues with Barack Obama have nothing to do with the color of his skin, and my support of Hillary Clinton has nothing to do with her gender.  But anyone who supported Barack Obama in whole or in part because of his race, cannot criticize anyone who supports Sarah Palin in whole or in part because of her gender.  Fair is fair.

The primary campaign was historic because it saw one of the two major political parties select a Presidential nominee who is African American.  It would have been just as historic if Hillary was selected as the nominee, because she would have been the first woman to reach that milestone.

This election continues to be historic because the “highest, hardest” glass ceiling that has kept women and minorities from either of the two highest offices in the country will be shattered regardless of who wins in November.  If the person who shatters that glass ceiling is Sarah Palin, I will have mixed emotions.

I will be happy and proud to see a woman reach the nation’s second highest office.  I will be sad because that woman is a Republican, and because Democrat Hillary Clinton deserves the honor of shattering that barrier.

If the Democratic leadership had not been infected with CDS, they would have given Hillary the Presidential nomination that she both deserved and rightfully earned, and had he run a clean campaign they could have selected Barack Obama as her running mate.

Had the Democratic leadership done so, both candidates would have blasted the glass ceiling to smithereens in November, and a more experienced Barack Obama would be perfectly positioned to follow Hillary into the Presidency eight years from now.  That would be sixteen straight years that the Oval Office was not occupied by a white man.

But the Democratic leadership was too full of hatred for the Clintons, and Barack Obama too arrogant and impatient to wait or to allow a woman to go first, so John McCain and the GOP have seized the golden opportunity presented to them.  Until yesterday morning I thought John McCain would more likely than not defeat Barack Obama in November.  Barring any unseen developments, I am now certain of it.

Four years from now, the Democratic party will have a final opportunity to ensure that the first woman President of the United States is a Democrat.  They can nominate Hillary Clinton, and watch her beat either McCain (if he runs for reelection) or Palin (if she is nominated to replace him.)

She would also beat the stuffing out of any other Republican the GOP could nominate.

So if you supported Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Presidential nomination, don’t come whining to me about “McSame” or “4 more years of Bush” when McCain and Palin open a big can of “Whoop-Ass” on Obama and Biden this November.

If you do, this will be my response:

“I TOLD YOU SO!”

  1. NOTICE TO TROLLS

    I don’t delete your comments.

I edit them for my amusement

    You have been warned!

  2. I just got back from my brother’s house. He’s so angry, trapped, frustrated he could hardly speak. He can’t vote for Obama but he hates McCain and he lives in a swing state.

These trolls who think we’re Republicans are rock-bottom stupid. This election is a disaster that wasn’t supposed to happen.

  3. I guess I understand Democrats not voting for McCain, even angry Democrats. As an Independent supporter of Sen Clinton, I don’t have that problem at all. In fact, I can’t wait to vote for McCain/Palin.

Assuming they win, 2012 will be a great race! Hillary/2012

  4. Fantastic post, myiq, and I also edit troll comments for humor on my blog. I love it when they complain.

Thanks so much for writing this. It needed to be said, and I’m too busy writing about other things to do it. You rock!

  5. I laugh at the “you are all Republicans anyway” meme. If we were all Republicans to begin with, and would have never voted Dem, then what is the problem? Why the anger at us?

If it’s true, then our votes were never in the Dem column anyway, and all those polls showing his support slipping among registered Democrats? Well, it must be some other large group of Democrats causing that slide, because it can’t be US, by their own logic.

  6. Yeah, Ralph, that would probably ease my guilty feelings: switch to Independent. Then I wouldn’t feel like I was deserting my Party. But, then again, if I am a member of the New Democratic Party, I’m not deserting them either since they have no ponies in the race.

Look, it’s still a tough decision because of some of the stances of McCain/Palin. I am glad that we are agonizing over our own decisions as it shows me that we take our country’s future very seriously.

And myiq: I’ll probably say “I told you so” a few times myself.

  7. I knew that the media and the right wing were infected with CDS, but until this year I didn’t know that the Democratic party, and especially the Dem leadership were hardcore Clinton haters.

They would rather lose with Obama than win with Hillary.

  8. I love McCain’s standard answer when he is asked if he is too old to be President:

“Why don’t you ask my mom?”

  9. myiq2xu.

What you said. Except for the part about not being a woman, as I am one.

The fact that we are in this position frustrates me to no end. It never should have happened. My sick sense of humor has checked in and is amused by it all, but my Jiminy Cricket conscience is just sick.

  10. My boss is a Republican and we have spoken briefly about the primary over the last 8 months. He told me a few months ago that he really didn’t like McCain and wasn’t sure he could vote for him. Yesterday I asked if he had heard about McCain’ VP pick and he looked at me and smiled. He actually looked happy and said he really liked Palin. Obama’s name came up and his only comment ” He is really arrogant:”. I hear the Republicans are really psyched about Palin.

Women will decide this election and the Dems threw our support away but the Republicans are asking for our vote. I will support McCain/Palin these year. Whether the Dems ever get my vote back will depend on whether they clean house.

  11. I wish I was a woman.

You just gave me the perfect reason to stick it to Obama and the DNC and vote for McCain– if I was a woman.

since I’m a guy, I can’t do that. I still have to sit it out.

    **********
as an aside — Palin is making a difference. I just visited my mom. A week ago, she thought her choices sucked. Today, she said (when a picture of McCain and Palin came on) “that’s who I’m voting for.” And I told her that, as an independent/moderate, it made sense to support that ticket.

I think the Obamasphere understands justt how powerful Palin is in terms of public perception of McCain, and that’s why they are acting so insanely. They know they have no positive reason to back Obama — and that nobody else does either. And there was no good reason to back McCain. Palin provided a positive reason to back McCain for everyone but progressive voters, and the Obots are freaking….

  12. The Democrats were stupid in not nominating Hillary. I hope they lose.

    Now I’m voting for Palin.

  13. Well done, m! I agree 100% and could never have stated it as well as you did. Thanks!

  14. It is extremely obvious from the reaction over the last day and a half that the problem was not Hillary, but Ovaries.

I have no problems supporting Palin because she has a set. And for heaven’s sake please stop with the whiny “you can’t be Hillary supporters. She’s against everything Hillary stands for!”

    Guess what? So is Obama.

  15. That’s pretty harsh to forecast death for McCain. What Palin said about Hillary was not that bad-at least what I read wasn’t. What they don’t understand is that we forced Hillary to say something about sexism on our behalf. She put up with so much for so long that I hate that they use it to pretend that she whined or complained. She had every reason talk about it every day but she didn’t. She just sucked it up and ignored it.

  16. Hey, Paul. How are you enjoying TL these days? Me neither.

  17. “Palin Makes Good First Impression: Is Viewed More Favorably than Biden”

    http://tinyurl.com/6f6ulx

  18. Thanks for this post myiq.

I had all ready decided that I would vote for McCain because I believe that here in Wisconsin it will be very close. I had decided but it was actually keeping me awake at night even though I had officially decided that I was now a liberal Independent.

Now that I can vote for Sarah Palin the decision will be much more palatable. Still not easy for this old lefty but I cannot in all good conscience vote for a Democrat in the top spot until they clean up their party.

As always I will vote for Russ Feingold. That’s a given. The rest? Earn my vote people. That’s your job. Show me what ya got for me. That’s your job.

since I don’t have 40+ years of caring invested in the Republicans they will not make me feel betrayed.

  19. Has Joe Biden been drinkin?’ looks like Joe is DRUNK
    Check out the video http://countusout.wordpress.com/

  20. Early in the campaign, when the CDS and misogyny were just starting to infect the “progressive” blogosphere, it occured to me that the people spewing all that poison and filth at Hillary and her supporters were not really Obama supporters like they claimed to be, but were GOP ratfuckers posing as Obama supporters to create division within the Democratic party.

My very first blog posts ever were about ratfucking. They were posted on my blog at Corrente, but I don’t know if they are still there or they were deleted when Lambert banned me the other day.

But as Riverdaughter, Alegre and many others can tell you, there were lots and lots of Obama supporters involved in driving Hillary supporters out of Cheetoville and other “progressive” blogs. it wasn’t a couple guys using a bunch of sockpuppets.

So either the ratfuckers outnumbered the real liberal.progressive Democrats, or they really were Obama supporters. Because the former requires I believe that there was a massive conspiracy, I’m going with the latter.

  21. I think if I was Joe Biden, I’d probably be driven to drink. Think about it, Joe is part of the good ol’ boys network participating in a visible role, he is compared to HRC as lacking and now McCain is marching out his VP pick and Joe Biden is again found lacking.

It would suck to be him. I guess he should have taken the train instead.

  22. When the Democrats clean the filth and rot of misogyny from the party, I will vote Dem again. Until the, no way. It is rampant, it is obvious, and the powers-that-be know damn well what is going on, because we’ve been screaming about it for months. Now it’s just directed at a different woman.

This is a true watershed for me, akin to the blatant racism that cause so many AA’s to walk away from the Republican party and join the Dems way back when.

It was not because they agreed with the Democrats more on every issue. It was because NO group of people can stomach staying in a party where sheer virulent HATRED and BIGOTRY against them is allowed to flourish. Anyone who expects or demands them to, because they agree on this or that policy position, is a FUCKING MORON.

The Dems want my vote, ever again? Stand up as ONE and LOUDLY and FORCEFULLY slap this down, BUT GOOD. No little half-assed “I should have done more” whines from Dean on some obscure CSpan show will suffice. It had better be PUBLIC and it had better be REAL.

Until then, I will not vote for them. Period.

  23. Damn!

    ANDREW BACEVICH:

One of the great lies about American politics is that Democrats genuinely subscribe to a set of core convictions that make Democrats different from Republicans.

  24. A great new one from kenosha Marge….

    How Dare He Do That?

    http://insightanalytical.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/how-dare-he-do-that/

How dare John McCain pick a woman as his VP? He’s just pandering to the silly little women folk. Well duh! He’s in trying to pick up some votes from a demographic that make up over 50% of the population. He panders. He’s a politician. That’s what they do. Say it 3 times; politicians pander, politicians pander, politicians pander. Cause they do. All of them.

McCain is not pandering to the silly women and men folk that are having hysterical fits all over the television and Internet. He’s pandering to the folks he needs. Conservative women, Republican Women, Reagan Democratic women, Catholic women and if he gets a few disgruntled Liberal Democratic women that’s icing on the cake. It looks like he did a damn good job the way the Shrillosphere on the left is reacting.

  25. Hi everybody? I just discovered this wonderful site. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I’m glad there are so many people of like mind. I feel right at home!

  26. Hey, Paul. How are you enjoying TL these days? Me neither.

hey Joan — I’m pretty sure I’ve been banned for calling out Jeralyn on her blatant sexism and age-ism in her attacks on Palin.

Its sad about Jeralyn, really. She knows what a crappy candidate Obama is. Indeed, when Biden got the VP nod, she told us [paraphrase] “You have to support Obama, even though I don’t have to, because my priniciples are more important than yours.”

Then she went to the convention, and surrounded by her Obot peers, she clearly was mainlining quadruple-strength Kool-Aid, because her Palin posts were obsessive, ugly, and vicious — and constant. Then she declared that she was tired of the Palin issue — which I can believe, because it must take a serious emotional toll when you are violating every principle you’ve ever espoused just to support a party’s nominee.

And, of course, her first post this AM was more Palin trashing. She wasn’t really ‘tired of the Palin story’, she was just exhausted from all spewing her misogyny and age-ism. She got some rest, and went right back at it.

Its a shame, because BTD was about the only consistently sane Obama supporter in the blogosphere. (T Chris is an idiot — a total Oborg.)

  27. myiq: My bets are mostly on the latter too. It could be a handfull of republican trouble-makers got them started… there are too many lefty blogs, the MSM and the obama campaign itself participating to believe it is a republican conspiracy.

  28. I would like to start my own site like this.

  29. I pick my nose and eat the boogers

(edited for the amusement of myiq2xu)

  30. Hello? I’m not sure if my internet is working.

  31. Hi everybody? I just discovered this wonderful site. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I’m glad there are so many people of like mind. I feel right at home! This is great!

  32. I read this blog daily during the primary campaign. I am a lifelong Democratic and after Hillary’s concession speech, I started to work for Obama. I avoided this blog because I knew I would keep rethinking my decision.

I am still voting for Obama, but the sexist bilge directed at Palin over the last 24 hours on leftist blogs made me decide I needed to become a regular reader of Confluence once again. . What is particularly infuriating are all the attacks on her mothering from faux progressive blogs.

  33. I tried to talk at a site about Barack, but nobody would let my comments in, or else they made fun of me.

  34. Hold on, I have to get dinner ready. I’ll be back in a few…

  35. This si so much fun. Be back in a jif.

  36. I think they really were Obama supporters, at least for the most part. Thee last couple of days has put the lie to the defense of their misogyny that it was only “this” woman. Turns out it’s “any” woman as Palin is proving.

Jeralyn at TL seems to have went off her meds about Palin as well. I’ve read almost as many lies there as anywhere else. That tells me they are really afraid she’s a game changer like I think she will be!

  37. miq..I won’t accept your IQ is 2x mine…but, you nailed this one far more logically than I could. 40 yr Dem voting always for the party nominee and this yr baffles my mind as to why the so called ‘party elders’ chose this path of destruction and misogyny. i would have been glad to afford BHO the VP slot, if, as you said, he had run a clean campaign. He is too slick and will not have my vote Nov. 4th, when I become a GOP for the day. The rest of the ticket I will pick n choose, not based on gender but upon how they supported Democratic principles……..that may be the same thing, tho. Thanks for your clear perspective.

  38. Oops, I menat is, not si. Sometimes I make mistakes spelling when I get excited and type too fast in this little box. And my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be. But I’m really angry at what happened in the Democratci party.

  39. In my opinion one should not vote on identity (like
gender and race) but based on political issues. I also think
that one should vote based on rationale reasoning (which
politic do i support) rather than emotions (I can’t stand
    this person).

    I am writing this, because I am anti-war, pro-diplomacy
    etc. etc.

  40. Oh, my my typing is so bad. Anyway, I really have to get dinner out of the oven. Be right back. Go PUMAS!

  41. “Pandered to” or “listened to”? Hmmm…

I know how the DNC treated Hillary. I know how they treated me as a woman, a voter, a Hillary supporter. Did they listen to our outrage? It certainly feels like McCain did.

So thank you John McCain for “pandering” to me, F*ck you DNC for endorsing misogyny with your silence.

  42. OK, I’m back. I got my granddaughter to get it. She just started college. She’s so smart. And she knows so much more about computers than I. Silly me.

But, back to the issue at hand: Hillary. I am so mad, I could spit. And that’s pretty strong language for me!

Let me tell you a thing or two. Those Dems! Well, I’m just so angry! Oh my!

  43. But I have to say, that Barack is such a handsome young man.

  44. George wrote

Your mistake is in assuming that blacks support Barak Obama only because of the color of his skin. Most blacks support Democratic ideas. Blacks have been supporting Democrats for 40 yrs. So in effect, supporting Obama does not vote against their self interests.

Re=read what you are criticizing — its not about current black support for the Democratic nominee — it was about support by African Americans for Obama based on the color of his skin. (the key word is “supported”.)

Reading comprehension — its a wonderful thing!

  45. John, I do not care that I agree with you on drilling, or the economy, or SCOTUS, if you are calling me a c*nt and saying I need to be raped with jackhammers, while the party remains FUCKING SILENT.

If you have a difficult time understanding that, you are an idiot.

  46. eriezindian:

my alias is not meant to be serious.

  47. But Hillary was treated so shabbily! Oh. I just have to grit my teeth. I won’t live to see another woman come so close to being President.

  48. Let’s see if this gets through, George: your people trashed Bill and Hillary Clinton, two of the greatest friends of AA’s ever. We are supposed to forget that small detail and suddenly support Obama and the Democratic Party that not only allowed but encouraged the endless sexism and ageism. We are supporting McCain and Palin in protest of the treatment of Hillary Clinton. Got it? Good, then go suck on it.

  49. Paul, I loved your pushback against Jeralyn’s crap, before it was deleted. Was trying to post an agreement with you but it was gone.

Don’t know what’s going on at TL but Jeralyn and TChris are complete humps now. BTD seems to be holding on but damn it sucks.

  50. Paul:

You might want to re-read what George had to say

  51. I was captain of the short bus

(edited for the amusement of myiq2xu)

  52. I’m not supporting Sarah Palin as much as defending her. It’s going to be like a giant game of Red Rover. Millions of women and more than a few good men with arms locked across the country. To get to her, you’re going to have to break through us. Enough is enough. The misogyny is going to be outed, stomped on, and stopped. After Sarah Palin is elected in November, I’ll join the New Democratic Party you all are talking about, but until then, I’m an honorary Republican.

  53. Barack is not good looking. Maybe that’s the negative halo effect.

Now, Bill Clinton, that is good-looking man. Woo.

  54. By the way – I did not vote for Hillary with my vagina. I voted for her because she was smart, clear, and had a vision and a plan that I could whole-heartedly support. Her gender was a nice little plus, but absolutely not a deciding factor.
Early on I thought that although Hillary was my choice I would be fine with BO. Wow – that seems a long ago dream,.

Barack Amerika lost me. The DNC threw me away. So I was forced into looking at Johnny Mac – and frankly was impressed by what i found. No, I do not agree with him on every issue, but I haven’t agreed on every issue with most democrat candidates I have voted for (my whole life).

I made my choice to support JM. My only remaining concern was his choice of VP. and he picked Palin. A woman. and I found that although gender was NOT why I supported Hillary, 16 months of sexist bashing and DNC silent endorsement have made gender an issue for me now. SO BRAVO JM! I sent my first donation.

  55. OT, I hate to show my ignorance, but what’s the origin of calling DK Cheetoland, or Cheetos?

  56. It’s one thing when you have a blog that takes a specific viewpoint, and the site monitors comments to conform to that viewpoint.

But when you suddenly declare that the acceptable viewpoints are changed, and regular commenters are banned because their opinions are no longer acceptable, that’s bullshit

  57. I’m sorry but my bs meter is on high. Is FluffyBunny real? If I’m wrong, I apologize.

  58. TL: TalkLeft, a blog.
BTD: Big Tent Democrat, a blogger

  59. Have been out most of the day, but did manage to catch some of C-SPAN’s coverage of the Tubbs Jones memorial service.

Some of the speeches and testimonies I found very heartwarming and touching. Hillary and Bill’s tributes to Rep. Tubbs Jones were insightful, heartfelt and uplifting. (Bill’s “jewelry store” anecdote was both hilarious and sweet.) The musical tributes I watched — the district school choir, followed by BeBe Winans — were quite moving.

But there were other times throughout the service (and I maybe the only one who felt this way) that I couldn’t tell if the service was meant as a tribute to the life and legacy of Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones or a pep rally for Barack Obama’s campaign. The continuous deference paid him I found too much of a distraction. Even switched the channel a few times — too nauseating.

All in all, though, I’m glad I got the opportunity to share in the well wishes and tributes being paid to such an amazing American treasure.

  60. I think TL is talkleft and BTD is Big Tent Democrat

  61. The Obama campaign is severely underestimating the strengths that Palin brings to the GOP ticket. They sneer at her mayoral experience in a city of less than 10,000. Does anyone realizze what it takes to become mayor of a small city or town? One has to relate to practically everyone in the community; earn their trust/friendship; demonstrating a sincere interest in the concerns of the community which requires tireless networking. Palin obviously has had all that it takes to be a small-town leader. Her being a basketball player make her a great teamplayer. By working for reform and lower taxes, she has correctly analyzed the common needs of her constituents. Now she has the opportunity to demonstrate all those qualities to the country and the people of the country will be able to sense those endearing attitudes also. It takes an extraordinary woman–in the same mold of Ferraro and Clinton, to accomplish what she has done so far. I hope that the Obama team continue to underestimate and attack her in such a stupid way. Payback is in November.

  62. FluffyBunny is Obama’s fluffer. You know he can’t even
do that on his own. LOL

  63. Bunny Fluffer is going bye bye

  64. Yep my bs meter went off a while ago but I didn’t want to jump to conclusions.

Yeah, it’s in the neon range now.

  65. Fluffy Bunny is a dumb bunny – get the troll net out – can anyone possibly be that stupid in this day and age?

    gag me

  66. FluffyBunny, you cute little thing, the misogyny I was referring to was the vile spewing that went on yesterday after Governor Palin was introduced as John McCain’s VP. Whatever made you think that I was referring to Senator Clinton? And I’m so sorry to hear you have a problem with swelling “cankles”.

  67. Over at the orange cheeto obot is taking polls whether to make up a story that Palin’s baby is actually her daughters’. Most denizens, about 2000+ say “Yes, the future of the world is at stake, nothing’s off the table”

I have been insulted enough in these primaries to declare that I will no longer think identity politics beneath me. I am a woman. I want a woman in power, damn it! I don’t care from what party anymore.
    Anybody attacks her, I’ll growl.

  68. I was watching Fox News.
The comments they reported by Michael Moore and Don Fowler about the hurricane are just plain sick.
Laughing because a hurricane will hit La during a bush speech, these so-called democrats are mental.
I am so glad I left this “sicko” party.
The faux new democratic party has no interest in the good of America.

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS,AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

  69. John, fuck off. I will not waste my entirely justified rage on you. I will use it in the voting booth, and campaigning my ass off to defeat Obama.

I am retired. I made literally thousands of calls in swing states for Hillary, and I plan to do the same for McCain/Palin. I am an old hand at it, for decades, and exceedingly persuasive. I never follow the script. I can charm the socks off of just about anyone, when I choose, and I connect VERY well with those blue-collar PA and OH voters. They adored my accent, and my fishing and canning stories.

    Good day.

  70. Oh, and Obot over at No quarter says of palin “she’s good at popping retard babies”. The Obamacratic party shines!

  71. FluffyBunny can’t keep his story straight.

  72. Great post myiq — I am a woman who has only voted Dem my entire voting life (21 years) because I believed they were the part that cared about woman’s issues — as a result of the unbelievably vile sexism I witnessed during this campaign I am now a woman who votes primarily on women’s issues and, I have found, that doesn’t mean always voting Dem. Now that I have a chance to cast a vote to help Sarah Palin becomethe first female VP, that is what I am going to do even though I disagree with her on most issues. And I do vote for her with sadness — because if the DNC had not rigged the primary in favor of the inadequate Obama, I would have been casting my vote for the first female President with whom I agree on most every issue.

  73. What.you.said.

I never thought I’d see the day I’d feel compelled to defend any Repub for ANY reason. But I cannot and absolutely will not stand silent witness to the misogyny being directed at Sarah Palin, even though I couldn’t be any further removed from her in political ideology.

It’s a conundrum, for sure. But I’ve come to realize something in the last few days, I’m a feminist first and a Democrat second. Now that doesn’t mean I will vote for her and Johnny Mac, any more than I’ll be voting for BO, but I’ve got her back against the OUTRAGEOUS sexism. Damn, it’s really pissed me off!

My prediction is this: if Democrats and the MSM don’t lay off her, this will backfire BIG time. Heh, maybe this was the calculation all along for Team McCain. The stupid Democrats with their dismissal of Hillary gave them an opening as big as…well…Alaska and they’ve taken it. Careful what you ask for DNC.

  74. myiq2xu,

Great post. I think fluffy bunny is a troll, but I’ll leave it up to you.

  75. Don Fowler, former DNC chair, on tape joking that the hurricane headed toward New Orlean proves “God is on our side”

I am so disgusted. I do not even recognize the Democratic party anymore.

  76. Perfectly written, and I wholly agree with your assessment(s). I too was convinced McCain would win anyway, and now he has taken full advantage of the door opened to him by Obama’s ego. And the more I learn about Gov Palin the more impressed I am.

Democratic party take note: you have messed up for the last time in my book. But having been a democrat until this primary season ended I also know that this party will not learn and will make the same mistakes over and over.

  77. Play fair with Obama……and your a fool.

Race card off the table…….He gets caught using it.
Wife’s off the table……He trashes Cindy McCain, for being to rich.
Experience off the table…..He trashes Sarah Palin.
Personnel Attacks off the table…….He questions McCain’s temperment. Accomplishments are only a distraction. Play fair with Obama, yes you could if the media wasn’t in the tank for him. Play fair with Obama forget it.

  78. I’m with you Regency. Barack is not good looking. He’s ordinary inside and out.

  79. House drops anytime soon?

  80. Bunny Fluffer is interfering with my tequila shots

  81. How about STFU?

  82. FluffyBunny, and yes I’m addressing her with the utmost sincerity–in case we’re wrong–you don’t have to DO anything. Don’t vote if you don’t feel like you can do it in good faith. And yes you can vote for a Republican. Or vote 3rd Party.

No one can hold you hostage if you don’t let them.

  83. Trolls are ugly, FluffyBunny. Inside and out.

  84. I just have to ask… what is STFU. Please don’t be angry

  85. Marvin42, on August 30th, 2008 at 5:52 pm Said:

It’s quite disheartening, having to accept that this is likely the case. SMH.

  86. Wow. Did you guys know that Todd Palin QUIT his 17 year job with BP oil when his wife became governor and was involved in negotiating the pipeline? He wanted no appearance of favor.

Unlike Obama’s spouse, who when her hubby became a state senator promptly got a 160% raise and her employer got a million dollar earmark.

  87. Yo, Fluff! Method acting lessons ain’t what they used to be, eh?

  88. Bostonboomer, can you ban the fluffer for me?

I know how to delete comments but not how to 86 ’em

  89. Your reasoning provides NO BASIS FOR WHAT TO INFER if you DO disagree “ with the idea that there is nothing wrong with African Americans voting for an African American candidate over a white candidate, even if the white candidate has a longer record of working to advance the interests of African Americans”. Since I’m guessing that describes many if not most of us, the question remains as to the argument for justifying a vote for McCain/Palin among traditionally Democrat women.

I WOULD DENY THAT THE PLACE TO LOOK FOR SUCH A JUSTIFICATION IS “IDENTITY POLICS” AS YOU DESCRIBE IT, and it’s a misleading way to think about it—or so I would argue.

I think the proper argument should be that it IS preferable IN GENERAL , not just for women’s issues but for governance of this country, to vote for McCain/Palin. ANY OTHER ARGUMENT SEEMS SPECIOUS AND ILL-FOUNDED.

Now, going back to B. Clinton’s argument about candidate X and Y, the argument would be that all things considered, the negatives of an Obama presidency (e.g., his faith-based initiatives, his questionable judgment in friends and hence appointments, his tendency to lack a solid foundation, and all the evidence that he appeases, panders, hides behind “present” votes) compared to the positives of McCain/Palin (e.g., daring, reform-minded, in-depth knowledge of the senate and foreign policy (McCain) and energy issues (Palin) ) there are STRONGER LEGITIMATE GROUNDS FOR VOTING FOR A MCCAIN/PALIN ticket.

  90. This is terrific. Here we are two days out from “the One’s” coronation event and it’s Palin, Palin, Palin. Everywhere Palin. Obie gets a notice only because he talks about Palin. I am over the top. McCain and Palin could just about do anything and I would be voting for them. I want to send a message loud and McCain/Palin are my network servers. It’s kind of fun that I am beginning to like them too. I think they are going to revolutionize the Republican party and save it from extinction. Could be a good thing! Maybe the Dems could hire them.

  91. Well, forgive me for not being as sophisticated

  92. Guys, maybe I’m wrong, but I think we should leave FluffyBunny alone. It’s hyporcritical of me to say this, but to anyone who doesn’t hang here much it looks like we’re picking on someone who doesn’t know better. I don’t know if she is in fact a troll but she hasn’t been trollish yet. Let’s just leave her be and see what happens.

I know I’m in the minority on that but I’m not all for banning just about everybody who isn’t up on the situation and isn’t up on the lingo. Wait until the insults come. If they do, we already know who they are, otherwise, we only manage to marginalize people who could be friends.

  93. Being part of the Democratic Party is like being at one long frat party these days. I hope there’s something left of the frat house after they leave.
And Regency, you’re just too nice. I’m sending my cat after FluffyBunny.

  94. Absolutely on target on every point.
As a lifetime Democrat, I am dismayed by the current party leadership. At this point I really hope for a defeat of Mondale-like proportions, for the Obama/Biden ticket. Then we could get rid of the Dean/Pelosi/Brazile leadership and purge the party of the Bolshevik thugs now running things. The result could be a resurgent Democratic party that actually represented democrats.

  95. My problem with the fluffer is the constant meaningless posting

  96. Obie gets a notice only because he talks about Palin. I am over the top.

And most of that time seems to be spent walking back his campaigns initial response to the Palin selection. Boy was that “response” a dumb move.

  97. Yes, I have seen Fluffy’s oven story before.

  98. myiq2xu;

no wonder those posts were cracking me up! glad I wasn’t laughing at the trolls.

  99. Off-topic but worth the look…

Former Chariman of the DNC , Don Fowler, laughs it up about Hurricane Gustav heading toward New Orleans…

    This is pathetic!

  100. Well, if I go by the idea of what a troll is in most literature, a creature that lives under a brige and bothers people as they pass, I’m certainly not that sort of person. Believe it or not, there are people whe are new to this web site discussion business every day. I’m not the most politically sophisticated, nor am I very handy with a computer. But I am polite, and I am interested to hear what other people have to say.

If you think that I’m not up to speed enough, perhaps you can recommend a web site blog or discussion for seniors who are as proficient with computers and this language of acronyms and abbreviations.

  101. Nicely put. Oh, and I just love the idea of editing troll messages. That sounds like a wonderful sport. I wish some of us could do that as well. We could make it like ping pong.

  102. Fluffy, if you wish to participate here, please go read the tabs on the home page of this blog. Educate yourself a little about what this blog is all about.

It is not a social gathering for chatty musings. We have an election to swing, and do not have time for it, frankly, nor for the painstaking education of the uninformed. There are a lot of other blogs out there for that, and maybe you’d be more comfortable elsewhere.

I’m saying this nicely. Once. Your response will decide whether you are troll or not.

  103. FluffyBunny, the “cankles” remark gave you away. STFU means “shut the fuck up”. Not nice words for fluffy little bunnies. Did you get when someone called you a “fluffer”? You might want to look that one up. “The google is your friend”.

  104. Yeah FluffyBunny, above all bring the hate! See how folks jumped on you for asking questions? Joe McCarthy would be proud.

  105. **McCain-Palin event LIVE now in Washington, PA!!**

  106. The song playing just now at the McCain-Palin event in PA was “I am Woman, Hear Me Roar”

    LOVE IT!

  107. Wow, let’s not vote Sarah Palin because her brother in law was drunk on the job, tazed his 10 year old stepson and was abusive was NOT fired no matter how bad it got.

Annemprice, you are an idiot. And now you get to vote for one.

  108. @ edwardian: Team McCain handed Team BO their asses on a platter. I believe the term is “coldcocked.” 🙂

  109. myiq2xu-Did you ever get any explanation from Lambert? He just disappeared you? I can’t comment there but I enjoy reading the posts . But WTF?
I can still comment at TL but they’ve been so slammed that I can’t get anything to post. Probably a good thing because I’d be banned after yesterday’s horrid posts.

  110. Don Fowler, former DNC chair, on tape joking that the hurricane headed toward New Orlean proves “God is on our side”

That is despicable. He disgusts me, the entire party disgusts me now.

The video clip of Joe Biden “drunk” on the stump was embarrassing on so many levels. Could he be more condescending to women? I shake my head and ask–this is the guy who was chosen over Hillary? Can you imagine how she would have energized that crowd?

At least when McCain wins the party cannot come back to blame Hillary. That distinction rests soley on the shoulders of their nominee who didn’t have the judgment to choose the obvious and unbeatable partner.

Biden will probably drink from now until the VP debate. A “macho” guy like him with so much “experience” could easily be upstaged by a “girl”. I bet if he knew then what he knows now he would not have joined the ticket.

  111. Jimmy:

    I didn’t gloss over shit.

If you misstate what I said again, you’re not gonna like the words that come out of your mouth

  112. McCain & Palin rally in washington, PA on now!

  113. Okay, everybody, if we’re not going to just outright delete FluffyBunny, just ignore her. It’s not a hard thing to do.

  114. samathasmon, RD, and to PumaPAC and all of my fellow PUMA. I don’t know how eveyone else feels but during the primary we wrote letters, made phone calls and sent emails, in mass, when one or more of the idiot TV jerks made hideous, sexist remarks, about Hillary.

I would like to see us defend Palin, as a group, over the next 67 days. Whether you choose to vote for McCain or not, we cannot allow this sexism to be splashed acrosss OUR airwaives without objection. We need to defend women and let these jerks know that it is not acceptable, will not be tolerated, and will have consequences.

  115. Uh-oh. Palin just said “nookular” like W does.

  116. Absolutely! Shovel it DNC… I like it though they are frothing and foaming me I like Palin don’t agree with her on everything but I know I don’t agree with Obama on FISA, Women’s Privacy, Faith Initiatives, Earmarks, Cheney’s Energy Bill full of tax rebates for big oil, NAFTA, waste disposal or Iran or really any other position for that matter, I don’t trust his positions or his record, present, wrong button or just doesn’t show up…so a least I know Palin’s. The only change to me Obama offers is changed positions, recall you were not listening. And I have no use for Biden in an executive position Delaware seems to like him fine.

Hmmm wasn’t it Barny Frank who warned Obamatron and the DNC to be careful in blurring the line between the Parties hahahahah he told can say TOLD YA…

But Gov Palin, at least managed a 6.6B State Budget as an executive, direct the Alaska National guard and has governed a State with highly secure borders and truly taken on corruption and ethics made changes and she is a dynamo women. What again did Obama do as a community organizer or State Senator none of the above.

12 will be a great race Clinton vs VP Palin….

  117. NH – what sexist comments have been made about Palin? Got a link to something? Not a fringe iron-my-shirt guy, but somebody in Obama’s campaign or MSM?
People are allowed to ask about her experience without being labeled mysogenist/sexist, right?

  118. FluffyBunny, why don’t you get your feet wet blogging here:

    Bunny Blog

When you figure it all out, come back.

  119. NH, I’m in!

  120. Joan, on August 30th, 2008 at 6:15 pm Said:
Uh-oh. Palin just said “nookular” like W does.

Really? She hasn’t started speaking at the rally yet. McCain is still speaking.

  121. Joan:

He claims he didn’t like my “zombie talking points” about William Ayers.

But if you read the thread (and a couple from the day before) he was trying to pick a fight

  122. Now she’s finished speaking. Some kind of delay?

  123. Palin has the same experience as Kaine. No one questioned his “fitness.” So yes, the experience “concern” is rank sexism masked as something legitimate. Not buying it.

This shit happens to women in the business world all.the.time.

  124. I made a big poopie in my pants!

(edited for the amusement of myiq2xu)

  125. Jimmykins:

    Do your own research

  126. Funny I like McCain so much better today he seems himself all of a sudden….hmmmm makes me think he was sticking it to his Party too maybe no doubt Cheney, Bush wanted Romney Pawlenty losers….

    Sara on now CNN

  127. my-I did read those. Don’t know what his problem was. He’ll probably get over it. Jeez.

  128. annemprice,

If you were “highly uninterested this year” as you say, than you have no clue why were are at the point we are. You’re uninformed and apparently will stay that way as you within a day can only parrot CNN talking points about Palin.

Try going and researching her “abuse of power” scandal – it’s grasping at straws and frankly if someone had tasered my nephew and was threatening to kill my parents – i might bypass the good ol’ boys network that ignores domestic violence and get them fired too.

As far as the coattails, you are in a hornet’s nest of Hillary supporters, so don’t go there. You will get stung.

  129. When Democrats say, “She did a great job running her home and raising 5 kids but she’s not qualified to be President” they’ve just made a sexist remark.

When “journalists” say “What is she doing running for President with a four-month old child at home?” that is a sexist remark. Thank god for Dana Bash asking, “Would you ask that question of a male candidate in the same situation?”

When the Obama campaign says that she doesn’t have the experience to be Vice President when she has MORE executive experience than their PRESIDENTIAL candidate, they’ve just made a sexist remark. No, I’ll compromise. Not sexist–stupid.

  130. IronMan-I’m watching c-span so maybe your feed is delayed if you’re watching a different channel.

  131. When the media started in on Hillary, I stopped watching any show that was sexist. By the time Rham Emmanuel made his “bitter knitter” comment, I was only watching about an hour of TV a week, but my knitting basket was full. I would be happy to join in a protest, boycott, letter writing campaign, or whatever. (If it involves TV, though, I would have to start watching it again.) 8^)

  132. LOVE THIS POST!

And WMCB – you are awesome!

…NO group of people can stomach staying in a party where sheer virulent HATRED and BIGOTRY against them is allowed to flourish.

Period.

    God. D*mn. Right.

  133. Paul — since it came up — I liked your taking on of Jeralyn’s sexist attacks on Palin too on TL (before they were deleted). In case you haven’t seen, BTD has called her out on it a bit as well. I’m still posting there but trying to be “careful” not to say too much (i.e., like I’m not voting for Obama even if Christ comes down from heaven and commands me to) because I still like reading a lot of the posters there — Cream City, Dr. Molly, etc.

  134. tomie- The purpose of this blog is clearly stated and if you don’t agree with it, you are, also very clearly, asked to move on.

  135. I’m running out of online outlets.

I had to let my sub at at TableTalk lapse because of the rampant Hillary-hate and Obama worship. Eschaton and TBogg – ‘nuf said. Taylor Marsh and Jeralyn have gone over to the dark side (nothing like a recent convert). I was attacked at Shakesville for not being “racially sensitive” enough (McCain always said he’d announce yesterday – so why be furious that it stole the news cycle?), and then I made the mistake of correcting someone who misquoted Palin on a Palin sexism watch thread.

It’s not just the Democratic Party that is nuts these days.

Pretty soon I’ll have to start my own blog.

  136. Palin is so personable. Speaking of her husband and family now.

Governor Palin is a HomeRun selection by John McCain!

This is the big rollout of Palin and it is a huge success!

She relates to mainstream America BIG TIME!

    WOW! I am loving this!

    Suck it Obamabots!

  137. FuffyBunny, looks like you’re not as incompetent with the internet as you suggest you are. Guess you been outed. Now, Regency, is it OK if we let loose the hounds?

  138. Awwww, looks like FluffyBunny’s mask has come off.

Some people have very little purpose in their lives, apparently.

  139. OMG, Palin is hitting it out of the park!

Don’t overlook this woman! She is going to do a great job in the debate.

    Impressive!

Sarah Palin: “We are expected to govern with integrity, and good will, and clear convictions with a servant’s heart.”

“This is a moment when principles and political independence matter more than party line.”

    This is awesome!

    McCain-Palin ’08
    Hillary ’12

  140. Jimmykins: When you question the experience of someone in SECOND place on a ticket when their experience EXCEEDS that of the person on the FIRST place of another ticket, what is the excuse? It certainly isn’t political expediency. (I wouldn’t make too many remarks about thin-skinnedness in regards to Lil Lord Fauntleroy. He might cry.)

As far as equality. If only it was put into practice this past primary season, it would have had a different result. Sadly, it was not. And don’t you dare bring up affirmative action after the way your candidate got this nomination. I’ve never seen affirmative action put into action to such detriment. We got the least qualified candidate who was black over the more qualified candidate that wasn’t black.

  141. PUMAs, please eat the bunny!

  142. You cannot help but feel a tug at your heartstrings when she says that as a mother of a troop she wants McCain in charge…

  143. here is an orange cheeto denizen caught red handed while trying to fabricate slander against Sara Palin with no proof whatsoever:
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/anatomy-of-a-slander/

  144. Samanthasmom: Feel free. I tried to be fair. But, hey, our asses are covered. By all means.

  145. It is kind of weird though that her stump speech is basically just a recitation of her speech yesterday…it sounds so scripted..it is word for word the same….I hope she changes it up a little bit.

  146. Jimmykins – We don’t care.

    YAWN.

  147. know I am a pain in the ass with these hurricane updates, but I want to remind you, to fill up your cars today, gas prices are going up already, particularly in the larger cities, as a prediction of the damage of Gustav-which is a prediction of 5 a gallon. If you live in SF or NY, there will be a huge spike on gas, so just a heads up, and sorry for being a pain in the ass, but this one is on the verge of being a Cat 5, any minute.

Gustav Threat Causes Gas Price Spike Ahead of Labor Day
    Friday, August 29, 2008

NEW YORK — Retail gas prices swung higher Friday — the first increase in 43 days — as analysts warned that a direct hit on U.S. energy infrastructure by Hurricane Gustav could send pump prices hurtling toward $5 a gallon.

  148. Will someone please dispatch with the bunny?

  149. There has never been such an enthusiastic rally that I have seen for McCain. I mean it’s like McCain doesn’t even matter, they are chanting Sarah, Sarah!

But again, I wish she would change her speech up a bit from day to day. It seemed like a recitation if you saw it yesterday…

  150. And….
ssued by the Red Cross 45 minutes ago:

  151. Bunnies and kittens can’t be trusted. What a sad day.

  152. I AM in Hickville.

  153. Do women want to be equal – equally paid, equally respeced, and equally judged?

Yes, we do. So when an inexperienced presidential candidate questions the experience of an arguably MORE experienced vice-presidential candidate, and that VP candidate is a woman, it’s not a case of her being equally respected or judged. It’s a case of her experience being dismissed simply because she is a woman.

Furthermore, it looks really stoopid when the Pres candidate does it after seriously considering VP candidates for his own ticket that are even LESS experienced.

  154. Very effective rally in PA. Theme of reform and change and spoke on her track record of taking on the good ol’ boys network and corruption.

Palin did a great job. Spoke about her husband, her son in Iraq, and her family, and how she and McCain want to reform Washington.

Obama and his campaign are so overestimating the ability of Palin to connect with the hearts and minds of America.

Palin said she plans over the next 66 days to take the message of reform and change across America, to reach out to all Americans, regardless of political party.

    Excellent!

    McCain-Palin ’08
    Hillary ’12

  155. Trolls are interfering with tequila shots

  156. Btw…I am not trolling. I would just like to be heard that’s all. What’s wrong with that. I am not being disrespectful or contentious.

“My issues with Barack Obama have nothing to do with the color of his skin, and my support of Hillary Clinton has nothing to do with her gender. But anyone who supported Barack Obama in whole or in part because of his race, cannot criticize anyone who supports Sarah Palin in whole or in part because of her gender. Fair is fair.”

Yeah, I understood your words. But again, the difference between voting for Obama in whole or in part and voting for Palin in whole or in part is that in voting for Barak, we don’t hate to vote against our self interests. You cannot be a true Democrat and vote for Palin. You have to suspend what you stand for for 4 years in the hopes that McCain screws up so Hillary can get a chance in 2012. But that is a huge risk. That’s all I am saying. Let that one get through and you just my change my opinion about you folks.

  157. Tomie, you just proved our point. Thank you. Now FUCK OFF.

  158. Who are these jerks?

  159. Is it that hard to put a character limit for the comment box?

  160. The troll infestation is a good indication of how desperate the bot heads are. I guess Palin freaked them out

  161. They are utterly freaked. Lord of the Flies in meltdown mode.

  162. This just goes to prove that Obama appeals to the least common denominator.

  163. Obama and his supporters are LOSERS!!!!

  164. Jimmykins
No one questioned Tim Kaine’s potential lack of experience when he was on the short list for VP for Obama??????

    Can’t have it both ways

  165. Hubby said what do you expect from 20-year-old asswipes!

  166. This is sad. MyIQ, you wanna do something here?

  167. myiq:

I just logged in and I’m already seeing some stuff that need to be edited for your amusement or maybe just for the hell of it.

  168. Put a characher limit on the comment box.

  169. The greatest thing about watching the behavior of the Obots in the last 48 hours or so is that it shows that McCain/Palin has them really worried. I think the old man has shown them that he still has it. If they want to have a pissing match with the Republicans, they’re going to have to find another way. Attacking Palin is going to back-fire big time. McCain now owns the “change Washington” theme, the “we understand your pain” theme, the real “Annie Oakley”, and “the ready to lead on day one”.

  170. The Obamabots (that includes the head Obamabot aka The One and the DNC elite) just can’t stand a strong, assertive woman that gets things done!

    They hate Hillary.

And you know the absolutely hate that McCain selected Governor Palin for VP.

Suck it Obamabots! You are old news and you will not silence us anymore!

    McCain-Palin ’08
    Hillary ’12

  171. I was disappointed that Palin speech on CNN was the identical one she gave yesterday, but then I figured a lot of people probably haven’t heard it.

But most of all, I was disappointed when the crowd boo’d at the mention of Hillary Clinton, or at least it sounded like it to me. Its going to turn me off big time to his ticket if McCain doesn’t nip that crap in the bud, so to speak.

  172. Do you talk to your mother with that mouth, you impudent thug?

  173. tomie is not an obama supporter

  174. Jimmykins, we are not here to argue with or educate anyone, or “help you understand”. THAT IS NOT THE POINT of this blog, and it is clearly stated. It is not a free discussion blog. It is not even a general Democratic or political blog. We make no apologies for that.

So no, you are entitled to no answers. This is a refuge for PUMAs, period. We owe you nothing. Go away.

Guys, we may have to tighten up and just start zapping anyone who wants to pursue arguments beyond the initial explanation.

  175. Please remove tomie’s posts TROLL ALERT

  176. in voting for Barak, we don’t hate to vote against our self interests.

    I beg to differ.

In voting for Obama, I would be rewarding the party and the candidate of sexism and misogyny; of race-baiting, of electoral fraud and corruption. Yes, the Republican Party is too. But they don’t PRETEND to be on my side.

Obama has lurched so far to the right in what he proposes to do that it’s basically a wash between R and D. I’d rather have a weak R president with a strong D Congress than a right-leaning D president with a D Congress that won’t fight him.

  177. No, jimmykins. The only acceptable Dem ticket has Hillary Clinton at the top.

  178. Denise W, on August 30th, 2008 at 6:43 pm Said:
The troll infestation is a good indication of how desperate the bot heads are. I guess Palin freaked them out

Exactly Denise, the Obamabots just can’t stand to see a strong woman rise to the occassion and get things done! They want to keep women under their thumbs and expect them to vote like automatic robots for The One.

    Pathetic!

    NO WAY!
    NO HOW!
    NOBAMA!

  179. I can’t vote for McCain and Palin. Palin is an insult to Hillary and to me. She is a token, not a role model for women. If McCain thinks he can get my vote by comparing Hillary to Palin, he is dead wrong. I haven’t been posting anywhere for quite some time because of my grief about Hillary but I’m fighting mad now. As a long time feminist, I won’t take this insult quietly. I’ll work for Obama to make sure Pailin stays in Alaska where she belongs.

Oh, and Tomie, take a valium.

  180. Since my post we overshadowed by some foul stuff…here’s another try at it:

  181. I think even tomie’s previous thread should be removed.

  182. You know what guys? This “Tomie” is the reality behind all the semi-polite, idiotic questions which have been answered a million, billion times. This is what they are really saying to us every single time.

    Fuck you Clinton cunts.

So I don’t think we should ever respond to them again. As Randi Rhodes used to say before she drank the Kool-Aid and went completely bananas,

“When they show you who they are, believe them.”

    Fuck you Clinton cunts.

Remember that. That’s who they are.

  183. aww — tomie learned some bad words & how to cut and paste. Now he thinks he’s all growed up!

  184. i suspect he suffers from some kind of syndrome…

  185. Palin is not a token. That is such bullshit and anyone who buys the talking point is a moron. I’m just at that point. I no longer care about offending people. If you can’t see that Sarah Palin has more experience and more accomplishment in her little finger than Barack has had in his entire life, I’m no longer in the mood to justify it to you. You want Jimmy Carter for the next generation, you work for him, but you’d better be prepared for 20 years of Republican rule after because they’re already renewing their brand and they’re ready for a fight.

    Good on ’em.

  186. Michelle Obama would be so proud. How lucky she is to have such an erudite warrior in her husband’s service.

  187. It stinks in here. Wheww! Can we get some of Heidi Li’s potpourri?

  188. Ugh, I am going to leave for a while. Hopefully these Obots will leave soon.

To you Obots: your candidate is toast, get over it.

  189. samanthasmom, you said it. I always wanted to see the Obots’ heads explode when their Messiah showed real judgment and picked Hillary for VP (although I still wouldn’t have voted for the ticket). That didn’t happen. However, McCain neutralized Obama’s acceptance speech (does anyone remember what it was about?) with his female VP pick and that caused Obots’ heads to explode. Well done, Senator!

  190. perhaps he should tell hillary how he feels.

  191. wow….not only is Don Fowler an asshole for being happy that the hurricane will mean that coverage of the Repub Natl Convention won’t be comprehensive….

    …he’s also a moron.

Only political junkies watched the convention coverage on the cable channels. But with a hurricane scheduled to hit on Monday, guess what people will be tuning to in droves — that’s right, the cable news shows. And interspersed between the reporting on the hurricane, will be the 4 day commercial for the GOP — and a LOT more people will be exposed to it.

At least the GOP has the sense not to gloat about this….

  192. It is heartbreaking to see how happy Republicans are about the Palin choice and how graciously they speak about her. I can’t stand Bill O’Reilly and it just makes me cringe to see this man be so respectful of a woman candidate, something the Democratic Party and the so-called “left” couldn’t do for a woman as accomplished and talented as HRC. Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy that Palin is getting such a warm welcome. I just wish the Dems had done the same for Hillary.

  193. She is a token, not a role model for women.

She is not a token any more than Hillary was. She is a successful and popular politician and has more executive experience than Obama.

Feminists don’t disrespect other women simply because they disagree with them.

  194. MYIQ, good luck with this bunch. I’m heading back to BP and to do some writing. Wacky visitors here. I’ll be back later tonight. Great post!

  195. echinopsia –

    Absolutely!

She is not a token any more than Hillary was. She is a successful and popular politician and has more executive experience than Obama.

Feminists don’t disrespect other women simply because they disagree with them.

  196. gxm, great observation. That’s how the Democrats lost me this year … and maybe forever.

  197. After that Tomie post, I really think there should be a blog called Bastard Watch. This will get ugly. The bad guys have already lost the battle to define Palin, so they’ll be spewing venom and profanity.

  198. Good evening.

    Great post, myiq.

    PUMA

  199. I admit that I wish that Sarah Palin was a Democrat or at least a more moderate Republican than she is. But the Democrats haven’t put a woman on the ticket since Ferraro, and it is unlikely in the current climate in the DNC that they will soon. I’m not sure that they will not do a repeat of this year if Hillary tries to run again in 2012. It is important to me that the first female to win either the POTUS spot or the VP is a strong woman who will open the door for the next woman and the next. I know that Hillary would have done that, and I think Sarah will, too. I can handle that she’s a Republican.

  200. Edgeoforever – I gave you a shout-out at my place. Thanks for picking up on that BS at the Cheeto! 🙂

  201. Sorry Bently — you’ve got it exactly wrong — voting for Obama is condoning the sexism that they (the msm, Obama camp & the DNC) spewed against Hillary. And voting for Obama will be condoning the sexism that they are already spewing against Palin — if you are a woman, you should not stand for that. You don’t have to vote for Palin if you don’t agree with her politically but voting for Obama you will be condoning sexism used against women. point.blank.period. McCain did not put Palin on the ticket to get Dem. women to vote for him — he put Palin (who is just as qualified as Kaine — the VP Obama wanted until the Georgia/Russia conflict broke out) to appeal to Republican and right-leaning women — they do exist, you know, and, because Obama was too stupid and arrogant to have Hillary on his ticket. But you know all that, don’t you?

  202. Hello

  203. Everybody needs to understand that Obama can’t win. Wait and see.

  204. Well, that was fun!

I got beer, tequila, the TV is on and the ward nurse won’t be here with my meds for another hour.

If they want to play, I’m ready.

  205. If anyone is booing Hillary at a McCain rally I would bet my life savings it is the Obamabots. They will try anything and everything to antogonize Hillary supporters.

  206. Until then, I will not vote for them. Period.

    God. D*mn. Right.

    ditto

  207. One thing to note:

AA’s in Maryland voted 75% for white candidate Cardin (D) over AA candidate Steele (R) 25%. Evidently, issues trumped race here even though there have only been 3 AA US Senators post reconstruction. (As a comparison, my poodunk state of Maine currently has two women in the Senate and 3 all told).

To me the question really is not whether race/gender etc. is a consideration in voting- it always is. The real issue comes in when race is the only consideration.

But for those who do wish to vote solely on gender here, I say double down!

    Cynthia McKinney/Rosa Clemente ’08

  208. Love the Fair is Fair, and also love how you got rid of the troll.
I know madamab may recognize me from NQ; although our host doesn’t endorse, we are defending women always and have been dealing with an increase in the fear the o supporters are hiding behind. No way will we ever put up with another woman going through what our Hillary did, never again, I don’t care what party, it’s wrong and everyone knows it.
Love this site, and the strong women and men here. Keep up the good work, as you always have.

  209. A “token” is someone who is hired based on race, gender, etc., but who has no real power or authority.

Vice President of the United States is not a token position.

    It is a Constitutional office

  210. Hi Katmoon! 🙂

  211. If you read carefully, I never said anyone voted for or supported any candidate based on race or gender.

I said “if” they did, or “if” they agreed with certain arguments. . . .

Yes, the voting motives of AA’s are complex. So are the voting motives of women, men, etc.

  212. Isn’t amazing how they think an inexperienced man is fine for President, but a more experienced woman is not good enough for Vice President?

    Good golly, they’re transparent.

  213. Hiya madamab,

I come over when we get a little rest from the crazies, and read everything I can, but often can’t post. This site has always been my secret hiding place, where I know I am safe and welcome. There have been so many wonderful posts and stories, I never cease to be amazed at where it all comes from, some great big hearts!

  214. Whoa! I;m watching Sarah on the Stump and she’s good! She’s going to give the Dems a run for their money. Still not planning to vote for McCain/Palin but I’m serious about taking sharp objects away from the DNC. They could hurt themselves.

  215. “Regency”
I think Dana Bash’s comment to John Roberts is even better than we realize:
I read some where “they are an ITEM”!
    If that’s true / he’s in the DOG-HOUSE!
    That’s “myiq” for this post.
When people talk “unity” to me I will say if it’s “OK” for the “AA” community; then is “OK” for women…
    “RIGHT OPRAH!!

  216. howdee, just came back into recharge my trusty drill … trying to board up the kathouse …

what is with the trolls these days? they think they can bully us into wonderment of the precious?

  217. Welcome and it’s great to see you!

I do visit NQ a lot, but mostly don’t post there. Many of the stories are a little too out there for me, but I do appreciate and understand their point of view. 🙂

  218. Something like 80 or 90% of AA voters voted for Obama.

That’s a much higher percentage than any other group.

Any one AA voter may have decided how to vote for a wide variety or reasons, but the voting pattern makes it obvious that race played a factor in the AA community as a whole.

So what? Black people voted for a black candidate.

    DUH!

I have no issue with that

  219. Dana Bash and John King got married last memorial day …

John Roberts is married to Cokie Roberts …

  220. The trolls are in a panic, like an ant nest that’s been busted open by a shovel

  221. Myiq:

Trolls are interfering with tequila shots

Start doing tequila slammers, then. Slam ’em on the trolls’ heads, not the bar.

  222. dakinkat:

Are they all brothers and sisters?

  223. Palin is a token. You can deny it all you want but she clearly is. I am not an obot, whatever that is. I was and am a loyal Hillary supporter and long-time feminist. I haven’t posted anywhere for months because of my sorrow about Hillary. Palin would never have been chosen for the VP spot without the Hillary phenomena. McCain did it to poke the democrats in the eye and to diminish Hillary’s accomplishments. I won’t be fooled.

McCain is a sexist, pure and simple. The entire Republican party has had sexism at its core. The Democratic party has not, no matter what has happened this year.

If we can’t call this choice for what it is just because she’s female, then we are blinding ourselves. A token is someone who is chosen not because of they have earned the honor but because someone wants to try to show that they are “unbiased.” That’s what has happened here.

  224. Don’t forget that Sarah Palin has the highest approval ratings of any sitting governor- always over 80% since she got the job. That includes the opinions of everyone on both sides of the political spectrum in Alaska.

  225. I cannot believe how many pundits keep wondering how Palin would fair against a Putin when no one asked the same question about Obama and he is number one on the ticket? Purely sexist.

  226. (edited for the amusement of myiq2xu)

LOL! Oh myiq: please please please do this ALL THE TIME. It is so wonderfully entertaining, and we all need belly laughs these days!

  227. You know who else is married? Cass Sunstein, Obama’s Unitary Executive- loving pick for the Supreme Court, and Samantha Power, his ex-top FP advisor who called Hillary a monster.

What a cozy little crew. 😉

  228. myiq2xu,

Wouldn’t you agree that voting for an individual whose values are vastly different from your own in order to hurt an individual whose values are most like your own a bit strange?

How is hurting yourself a strategy for hurting someone you don’t like?

  229. dakinikat: Cokie Roberts, formerly Corrine Boggs, is married to Steve Roberts, a former journalist for The New York Times and US News and World Report.

  230. Bently, then what to you call Obama, a token too? Your argument is baseless. Palin choice in no way undermines Hillary, it just proves once again what a poor POTUS Obama would make.

  231. “When they show you who they are, believe them.”

Rhodes stole that from Maya Angelou.

  232. hey everyone. I feel like I’ve been away forever. we finally stopped somewhere early and I can spend an evening chatting. we’ve stopped at some tourist trap from hell called “wisconsin dells”.

I’m not buying this whole argument about voting for palin just because she is a woman…the implication being that she is not qualified. that’s just typical of the sexist notion that a woman has to be twice as qualified as a man just to be on equal footing. They make it sound like she’s done nothing but have babies for the past 20 years. I may not agree with her on the issues, but I am damn sure not going to say she’s not qualified. She’s a governor for chrissakes…how many female govs are there? 4 or 5…sure beats community organizer ont he old resume….and she has actually won elections rather than weasel her way into office…(don’t even try to tell me that Alan Keyes was a worthy competitor). I think her resume is more impressive than BO’s, although that’s not saying much

  233. You know what George is saying? And Bently?

    Fuck you Clinton cunts.

Do not engage. Seriously. They are not worth your time.

Now, if myiq wants to edit them…;-)

  234. RD: oopa …thought she was married to John … my bad

  235. Hi gary!!!! Hugs to you and Mawm!!!

  236. rd: “Whoa! I;m watching Sarah on the Stump and she’s good! She’s going to give the Dems a run for their money.”

    Yes, she can. 😉

  237. bentley, can you tell me why she is not qualified?

  238. The reason I wrote this post is that the reaction of many of the female “progressive” bloggers to the nomination of Sarah Palin was so rudely dismissive.

Hillary’s reaction I thought was perfect. But we already knew she had class.

  239. hi gary!!! glad to see your safe!!!

I agree, i had a friend last night say she’s has no experience, all I could say is … and BO is? then she said, while NOW he has Joe Biden … so I said, then you’re saying Joe biden is going to be the defacto president just like Cheney’s been?

that’s such a bs argument … obama’s never even held a full time job down

  240. hey madamab!!! I feel like I haven’t seen you guys in ages. This place is getting some heavy troll traffic huh? can I play some troll zapping tonight? he he….

  241. 48, I agree. The number of bullshit hypotheticals that have come out in the last day or so have been amazing. Omg what about her and Putin? What about her and Ahmadinejad? What if Mac keels over one second from now? What if Barack and John both died and Biden and Palin went head-to-head? What if her baby needs more attention? No hypotheticals seem to come up for BO, do they.

  242. hey dakini….yeah, plus he’s runing for potus, she’s running for veep….people don’t vote for veep, and my answer is that anyway she has more executive experience as governor than he or joe biden…the only thing joe has experience at is losing presidential primaries

  243. For McKinney/Clemente fans, I have a real problem with Rosa Clemente’s championing of hip hop. While she opposes certain excesses in rap music, I find that she has defended artists who use the b word and a slightly modified n word. If we are to be consistent here, that’s unacceptable.

  244. myiq2xu is having to much fun editing them gary, let him have some fun !

  245. Gary – omg, please do. It’s been absolutely CRAZY around here! Poor myiq was working his fingers to the bone!

  246. I’m a McKinney supporter because I admire and respect her. She stands up for what she believes in. Just check out her website and the video of her grilling Rumsfeld. And she’s the only candidate running who actually voted against the war. So, Peter, it’s okay to vote for McKinney because she’s a great candidate, not just because she’s a woman.

  248. “The reason I wrote this post is that the reaction of many of the female “progressive” bloggers to the nomination of Sarah Palin was so rudely dismissive.”

Thank you! It’s been effing appalling!! And they have the audacity to call themselves feminists?? Screw that. I can’t figure out if they’re just weakasses or simply frauds.

  249. I have green teeth. See?

(Edited for the amusement of katiebird)

  250. i’m thinking I’ll either vote for McKinney or Nader at this point

  251. Just to rub it in troll faces…I’m a Hillary supporter, who’s voting for McCain-Palin November 4th,
    🙂

Congrats on all your hard work.

  252. johninca, I understand where you’re coming from. I have to admit that I didn’t really “get” Clemente as a VP choice. But it wasn’t enough to sway my support for McKinney. (However, I will vote McCain/Palin if Virginia is close.)

  253. jimmykins, i was married for 20 years, by the end of my marriage I was praying he’d have an affair just to get him off the sofa for a change and out of my hair …

  254. i am sticking with my statement several stories down:

if you have a penis, you qualify.

    no penis…well, good luck.

  255. We’ve had Cheney one heartbeat away from the Presidency for nearly 8 years now, and a President who can’t be left alone to eat pretzels. I can’t think of anything on earth scarier than that.

  256. George:

Anyone who runs a campaign that depends on any form of bigotry does not share my values at all.

But if a black voter supported a black conservative GOP candidate for President because they wanted to see a black person become President, I would not criticize them for doing that.

If Democratic women supported Sarah Palin so that see a woman break through the glass ceiling, is that wrong?

    I don’t think so,

But I’m not saying that they should either.

  257. John:
In my opinion one should not vote on identity .. but based on political issues. I also think
that one should vote based on rationale reasoning (which
politic do i support) rather than emotions (I can’t stand
    this person).
    I am writing this, because I am anti-war, pro-diplomacy
    etc. etc.

John: The problem with your take on reason and positions is that any politician can say anything. I do not engage any Obama supporter on the issues any more because their candidate has proven with his deeds that he cannot be trusted.

Furthermore, a candidate must be assessed in his political context. Obama may say he’s against the war, but I have no belief that he has the political capital or will to do anything about it. He would enter office weakened because of the fractured Party he leaves behind and because of his debts to his backers. He also has a handicap that McCain does not: a need to prove he has a big, hard military dick unlike the girly-man Dems who are concerned with health care, education, peace and other pink issues. We have learned through his supporters’ behavior that he is backed by insecure little boys, and that Obama shares this culture. This has a direct bearing on how, as CIC, he’d handle the war.

McCain has nothing to prove to anyone in the military dept. I do not see him ending the war but if he took a notion to, he has far more solid ground to stand on.

Lastly, it is a tenet of democratic, civilly-run elections that if a politician wants a vote, she or he should ask for it nicely and agree to count it. The Democratic Party has violated these tents brutally. I am offended, outraged, and disempowered by this. You bet I’m voting with my emotions.

  258. George, who is hurting themselves? You have party X that proclaims to be stronger on womens’ issues and yet they stole the election from a supremely qualified female candidate and handed it to someone with no accomplishments. They went even further to ignore same woman when her 18 million voters would surely have made her the first female VP in history.

Party Y chose a woman, no matter how calculated. They walked the talk and we heard them loud and clear.

Party X, it turns out, is not the party of women at all, it was just the party that used reproduction rights to keep us enslaved to the party. Believe it or not there are more issues for women than abortion rights so some of us will take Party Y’s offer to shattter the glass ceiling and let the chards fall where they may.

Men just don’t get it because they don’t have a clue how women really think.

  259. Cal, they’re not, at heart, true feminists. If you can’t respect women who disagree with you then you can’t, or shouldn’t, call yourself a feminist.

  260. The sexism of the DNC and Obama and his followers cannot be swept under the rug this year. McCain rightfully poked them with his Sarah Palin as VP pick. Obama first brought up Annie Oakley and he got her—just not on his ticket.

  261. Mommie bought me a lollipop.

I never really thought of VP (even if Hillary had been made VP) as breaking through the glass ceiling.

  264. Jimmykins,

You transparent tool. Are wimmenz’ minds so small that their lives, loyalties and choices are ruled by their men’s dicks?

Mature people know that we are all imperfect and make mistakes. Hillary valued her family and was mature enough to forgive him. Those are REAL family values.

  265. Bently, how anyone could support Hillary through this primary and fail to see the rampant sexism of the Democratic Party is beyond me.

    Therefore, you’ve lost some credbility.

Tokenism refers to a policy or practice of limited inclusion of members of a minority group, usually creating a false appearance of inclusive practices, intentional or not. (Wikipedia)

The more women are in elected office, and the more powerful those elected offices are, the more woman-friendly legislation gets passed. (Institute For Women’s Policy Research)

    Hmmmm.

  266. gxm, McKinney is a no-goer for me for all of her past antics. She is very quick to accuse rac*sm (Al Gore, for a start) and that whole incident with the Capitol Police really turned me off of her. Praising Hugo Chavez at her last concession speech didn’t help either.

If the only choices were McKinney or Obama, I would vote for McKinney though.

  267. Bently, on August 30th, 2008 at 7:39 pm Said:

obama sold us out right out the door; fisa, cheney’s energy bill.

he has not given me ONE reason to vote for him; no thanks, I’ll take my chances with the party secure enough to let a woman try.

  268. I respect and admire Gov Palin not as much as I did Senator Clinton but much more than I do Biden, and Obama is a non starter for me as I would never have voted for Bush it’s actually the same reason I would not even seriously consider Obama… to me both are ivy educated but not smart, debate poorly, were inexperienced in executive positions, Alaska is a real Governorship Tx Gov is ceremonial and they are arrogant IMV sexist and I did not view either wife as someone I would respect.

  269. “Wouldn’t you agree that voting for an individual whose values are vastly different from your own in order to hurt”

George, this may be a hard concept for you, but misogyny is not a progressive or liberal value. I don’t want to “hurt” Obama. I want to heal my freaking party and get rid of the cancer of guys who try to out Republicans in terms of violating Democratic principles. The Anti-catholic league, I’m sure, doesn’t whine after an election about how they lost because Catholics wouldn’t vote for them. They know that Catholics aren’t going to vote for them. That’s basic common sense.

So you tell me, how does it help me to give my vote to a group of people who’ve demonstrated they hate people like me? Should I just hope that if I validate their misogyny, insteading of being taken advantage of further on the logic that ‘those dumb bitches…we can do anything to them and they stil vote for us, yeh I’ll give you your Roe, stupid bitches, count on that’ they’ll somehow do the opposite? Or should I hope that despite a growing affection for disenfrachisment and emulating Republicans in all regards, well if we just go with the flow, it’ll all get better? Hey, even if we have two Republican parties, “our” Republican party will always be much more fun and youth oriented!

    Yippee.

  270. ugsome … and forgive him, and forgive him, and forgive him ….
It’s not a criticism of Hillary, she made difficult choices. It’s Bill – he’s a horrible, immoral person.

  271. FYI/Palin on abortion

When running for Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin was asked the following question regarding her views on abortion: If Roe v. Wade were overturned and states could once again prohibit abortion, in your view, to what extent should abortion be prohibited in Alaska?

Under this hypothetical scenario, it would not be up to the governor to unilaterally ban anything. It would be up to the people of Alaska to discuss and decide how we would like our society to reflect our values.

  272. Troll flop sweat smells nasty!

  273. McKinney has fought and won her seat in the rough-and-tumble Congress six times. Those are some real creds.

Carole Moseley-Braun is also more qualified than Obama, having served a full term in the Senate and served as Ambassador, but no one ever took her seriously.

We wouldn’t be in this pickle if we’d nominated her. Woman? African-American? Yes! Talk about a unity candidate! 🙂

  274. Hey baby, what’s your sign?

People have sex. It’s what they do. It’s right up there with eating, drinking, sleeping, breathing and talking. The sooner you deal with it, the happier you’ll be.

There are worse things like sexual misdeeds. Like leading our country into war based on lies.

  277. myiq2xu–Bravo!!!

  278. you know it’s very clever to suggest that because we did not get hillary, we should not celebrate the advancement of any women. i don’t think anyone views Palin as somehow replacing hillary. hillary’s primary and 18 mil votes will continue to be more historically significant in my view than a mccain/palin win.

shlt, how many freakin times has a man been handed something he didn’t necessarily deserve because he was in the right place at the right time — that’s our entire damn history.

  279. Bently, I completely disagree. I think Palin is a brilliant choice. It was way back in February that I first heard her name brought up. My DIL is Native Alaskan so I was very intrigued and read up on her. I don’t think McCain picked her as a Hillary substitute. (Afterall, who could fill those shoes?) I think he picked her for a variety of reasons and didn’t let the fact that she is a woman stand in the way of offering her the job.

BTW, McCain pays his female staff better than Obama. IIRC, Obama has only one (token) woman paid over six figures. All the rest of his top dollar positions go to men.

    http://www.cnsnews.com/Public/Content/article.aspx?RsrcID=31833

  280. I love the few comments here that the choice of Palin is somehow an insult to women. That she is unqualified and was picked as a token. Um, OK, let’s not look in the mirror or look at the democratic party and who the dnc just dragged across the finish line or anything like that.

Hey Obamabots, eat some moose burgers!!

  282. I am still waiting for Bently to explain to us how Palin is not qualified. I have been patiently waiting for her answer since Gary asked. Please, Bently, elaborate for the class. We all understand that Palin, and can never hope to be, in HRC’s league. There isn’t one other U.S. political figure, male OR female, who is. And posters have repeatedly remarked upon the difference between being a VP candidate and running for the POTUS. How is she not qualified to be a VP candidate? Begin.

  283. Salt, on August 30th, 2008 at 7:42 pm Said:
I respect and admire Gov Palin not as much as I did Senator Clinton but much more than I do Biden, and Obama is a non starter for me as I would never have voted for Bush it’s actually the same reason I would not even seriously consider Obama… to me both are ivy educated but not smart, debate poorly, were inexperienced in executive positions,

My sentiments EXACTLY! Would add the whole “obnoxious sense of entitlement” and being uber-gaffemeisters.

  284. indi –

you know it’s very clever to suggest that because we did not get hillary, we should not celebrate the advancement of any women.

Are you kidding? For the Obamabots, that’s what passes for sheer brilliance.

The fact that it makes no logical sense whatsoever never stops them.

Let me see, which is more insulting, 18 months of sheer poisonous disgusting misogyny from the Obama/DNC Conglomerate, or John McCain making history by selecting a well-liked female governor as his VP?

Gee, let me think about it.

    (snort)

  285. The bottom line is if Palin is unqualified as a Governor, and obama is just fine as being a part-time state senator, and running for President during his 3 years as a National Senator,

    WHY ISN’T HILLARY THE NOMINEE?

    too LITTLE too LATE, obamabushbots

  286. I agree that Obama is a threat to national security. He is not qualified to be CIC. I will not vote for him.

It’s going to be a very tough race. Obama will game the system again. He relies on voter suppression. He wants you to stay home. He also is an expert at “divide and conquer” tactics. He wants the opposition to fight amongst themselves.

I don’t want to throw away my vote. I’m planning to vote for McCain.

    PUMA

  287. Hillary made plain the power of women. One party or the other was going to see the opportunity and take it. We put it on a platter and handed it to the Republicans and said, “Here, we don’t want these stinky girl votes, would you like them?” To which the GOP said, “Why thank you, we do believe we can put these to good use.”

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

  288. ugsome – YES! And not just women, but Clinton Dems in general…like my hubby, who is now voting McCain after almost 40 years of voting Democratic.

  289. Cindy, I understand what you’re saying about McKinney. But I had the opposite reaction to the CP incident and felt she got a bum rap. I love that she voted against the war, introduced a bill to impeach Bush and always speaks her mind. She says what she means and means what she says. And I love it. She’s my kind of candidate, but I can completely understand that she’s not everyone’s cup of tea. 🙂

  290. madamab: i know, i know. i don’t know why i am even bothering.

  291. gary — Palin is qualified — but she I don’t hold her same political positions — however, because she is a woman, I’m going to vote for her anyway. That is the distinction for me. It is more important this year because the so-called progressives are starting the same sexist sh!t against Palin and they spewed at Hillary all year. I’m not that worried about her positions because the executive branch doesn’t write the laws, and with a strong Dem majority in Congress, that should be ok (that is assuming the Dems do their d@mn jobs for a change, but maybe a McCain win this year will shake them up enough to do so).

  292. Now that I am in a ranting mood, not ONLY did party X kick the most qualified female candidate for President to the curb before the primary process was over, they stole delegates that she earned and GAVE them to someone not even on the ballot. They kicked her again by not vetting her for VP and then again when they wouldn’t allow an honest roll call vote.

To add insult to injury they are insisting that she is responsible to carrying Obama over the line one more time.

Hillary risks losing her supporters if she goes out on the campaign trail and hits hard agaist Palin but you know that is what the party expects. I makes me absolutely sick how they used and are continuing to use this woman. They will not be satisfied until she opens a vein for them.

I am pissed as hell and am not going to take it!

  293. “Obama first brought up Annie Oakley and he got her—just not on his ticket.” lyn5

    Yes!

  294. donna brazier: Where you gonna go?
    —————————————————-

oh my…what a pompous, arrogant question. DB has been punked by the RNC.

  295. Since the likes of Lollapelosi, Coward Dean and Donkey Brazire have asked the likes of me (gay, Latino) to take a hike, I gladly obliged. I was thinking about crossing party lines and going to pull the lever for McCain.

But for me, I think I will just vote Cynthia McKinney and the Green Party. Gay rights and choice are TOO big of an issue for me. Although Governor Palin does add a fascinating twist to the election, and a little more palpable for someone like me to consider, bottoms line is they are Republicans. And I can’t vote for them. And since Obamaho and Co. RESEMBLE repubs they SURE AS SHIT ain’t getting my vote.

I laud every woman who wants to see Governor Palin reach her potential, just as we all did with the phenomenal Hillary Clinton. I voted and STILL support Clinton on policy issues. Hillary just happened to be a woman.

As for those who may recognize my moniker, I too left Talk Left after JM and company jumped the Obamaho shark. BTD banned me from his threads because I defended Stellaa and Cream City.

So I got my old blog going again to bitch about all things political. Man this REALLY sucks that I don’t have much of a political home anymore. But I will say that I consider myself a PROUD PUMA and hope that we emerge with a stronger NEWER Democratic Party, purged of the likes of Donkey Brazire…and her goddamn MOMMA!

  296. Amen, fierce PUMAs! ROOOOOAAARRRR!

I want you all to know that the Cheetos are starting to make up a story about how Sarah Palin’s latest child – the one with Downs Syndrome – is not hers.

THEY KNOW THIS STORY IS FALSE.

It is already spreading to Corrente.

If anyone has an account there, I wish he/she would enlighten Chicago Dyke that the Cheetos are lying through their orange teeth.

    Have a great evening all!

  297. Sarah Palin is not the woman I would have picked to finally break the next-to-last barrier.

But I would rather see it broken than keep waiting for the ideal woman.

  298. 48 — Amen sister!

  299. Holy heck, I hate this new key board.

    Divide and conquer

Notice the Greenies showing up here? Think it’s a coincidence? I’m sure the McKinney supporters are sincere, but maybe they are getting support from Obamabots. No, I don’t mean pay offs. I mean psyops stuff like “attagirl” posts and e-mails.

These past few days have been exciting. I hope we can keep the positive energy going and avoid turning on one another, as the Obamabots hope we will.

  300. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

What a great line and it sums things up quite succinctly. We should work that into the mainstream just like PUMA about how we feel about it.

  301. gxm

I agree with you. I am voting for McKinney/Clemente.

I was just trying to point out to those who would vote McCain/Palin for the reason that she is a woman, even though they don’t represent their interests to try McKinney/Clemente who are probaly more closely aligned with people’s priorities here.

They can have their cake and eat it too.

  302. My new favorite kind of troll: the Obamabot posing as an outraged “feminist” Clinton supporter. Gosh, they’re fun!

The trolls crawling out of the woodwork in predictable fashion tells the story. They were so completely blindsided, they’re freaking out. It’s beautiful, I tell ya. Beautiful!

I don’t have a dog in this hunt — and I think Jr is the death knell co-optation of anything resembling progressive politics in this country — so I’m just sitting back enjoying the show. And how the Obots dance. Dance, my pretty poppets! Dance!

  303. George, at 6:39 (and again later) wrote:
“Yeah, I understood your words. But again, the difference between voting for Obama in whole or in part and voting for Palin in whole or in part is that in voting for Barak, we don’t hate to vote against our self interests. You cannot be a true Democrat and vote for Palin. ”

It is against my self interest to vote for a man who is directly responsible for unleashing a tidal wave of hate directed at me and other passionately liberal women who have spent our lives swimming against a riptide of sexism. It is against my self interest to vote for a man who not only approves of George Bushes faith-based ripoff of the taxpayers, but wants to extend them further. It is against my self-interest to vote for a man who believes that telecoms should not be held libel if they hand over my private information to the government. It is against my self-interest to vote for a man who is against off-shore drilling today, and for it today. It is against my self interest to vote for an empty-headed eager beaver who has already displayed his willingness to sit-stay-fetch for his filthy corrupt puppetmasters (oops — mentors).

I would counter that you cannot be a true Democrat and vote for Obama. And Biden??? Please. A more predictable, less inspiring choice would have been impossible (maybe a second chance for Lieberputz).

I find it fascinating that you state that:

“You have to suspend what you stand for for 4 years in the hopes that McCain screws up so Hillary can get a chance in 2012. But that is a huge risk.”

Are you saying that it is a huge risk to think that McCain will screw up in 4 years? Are you saying that he might be such a popular and well-loved Preznit that the Democrats, even Hillary, won’t stand a chance running against his re-election bid? WOW!

  304. It’s Bill – he’s a horrible, immoral person.

I love Bill Clinton – because he loves Hillary. I can’t think of too many men in their 50s who could resist a 21-year-old on her knees – not that it’s right, just that I understand the temptation. But it happened over ten years ago. It’s time for you to get over it. Hillary did.

Palin is somehow an insult to women.

I am so glad that people are finally concerned about sexist insults in this election. Where have they all been hiding for the past 18 months?

I’ve been so insulted by my own party that nothing the Republicans do can touch me.

  305. I watched sarah and she is good .. then I chanel surfed and I happend to catch obie and jobie and joe was doing obamas bidding and talking up women so hard and so fast I thought he was giong to go put a skirt and stockings on ..HIllarious

  306. arabella, I understand your concern, but there have been many, many PUMAs on this site who from the beginning have said that they’d go Green rather than Obama.

They have every right to protest with their vote in that way, AND to advocate for and explain that choice here. I intend to go McCain/Palin as my eff you to the DNC, but their choice is just as valid. Be watchful for distracting “subtle” trolls, yes, but let’s not gag people with no reason.

  307. Arabella, I completely agree with you. If they cannot convert us to Obama, they will try to lessen our impact by convincing to “keep our purity” by voting third party, or staying home.

  308. My new favorite kind of troll: the Obamabot posing as an outraged “feminist” Clinton supporter. Gosh, they’re fun!

    LMAO! Ain’t it grand?

  309. “Palin is an insult to women”

Why? Is she really a man?

If she is, I might switch teams, cuz “she” is a hottie.

    Oh, wait, was that sex*st?

  310. WMCB, thanks for that. I cannot vote Republican, although I will defend Sarah Palin from all sexist attacks. My only choices are McKinney or nothing on top (my state doesn’t do write ins unless requested by the candidate).

But an Obot or Obot-controlled troll I am not.

  311. “Obama first brought up Annie Oakley and he got her—just not on his ticket.” lyn5
    Best line of the day.

  312. I can’t think of anything to say that a thousand other idiots haven’t already said.

(Edited for the amusement of katiebird)

  313. alice – My most favorite troll is the “fake old lady troll.” I see we had some today.

“Outraged feminist trolls” are part of the divide and conquer strategy. I know a few genuine feminists who are pro-Obama and anti-Hillary based solely on theoretical grounds. (Most are academics.) I am risking losing some friendships unless I keep the conversation away from politics.

Obamabots Psyops Storm Troopers (In their cheesey Star Wars uniforms) like to build on a base of real, sincere anti-Hillaryites and create noise on PUMA blogs. They do this using Green Party members as well. The Obamabots (sweating away in their Storm Trouper costumes) like to see factions get down and dirty and out of control. The discourse collapses.

I’m not saying that people should not express their thoughts. I think River Daughter and Co. do a superb job keeping the conversation civil.

  314. WTF? I’m an Obamabot posing as a green party person?!??!?!? OMFuckinGOD! Anyone who knows me from Talk Left or cruises my old posts on my own blog would get the SHIT kicked outta them if they said that to my FACE!

Lay of the paranoia! Not everyone in here who may swing to the Greens is an obamabot trying to sway anything. I am a big ol’ Texas fag who WILL NOT vote for Obama because of his Donnie McClurkin LOVIN ass. And as for the GOP, well I don’t have to even spell that out.

I guess if ANYONE who doesn’t tow the PUMA line is going to get called out. How fucking ridiculous. Not only am I insulted, I can certainly go where my views are not going to be questioned or be suspect.

  315. Somebody, please help. I have a question:

    WHERE IS THE FAMILY OF

    MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.?

Were they not invited to the ‘spectacular’?

  316. See you all later! I will go to the new webpage started by TL refugees. Nice to know that even riverdaughter’s website is going the way of Talk Left, but just in the other direction!

  317. txpolitico, please don’t go. People are very suspicious of unfamiliar names at times, because the bots have flat used every trick in the book to derail conversation.

I think it was a misunderstanding. We have TONS of Green voters here, and none of us have shut them up. It was probably just because you are new – the suspicion.

  318. Yo, if everybody hasn’t grown a backbone by now, they’re not getting one.

Yes, people get called out here everyday. Why is that? Because we all have differing opinions. It happens.

    Let it go.

  319. txpolitico67,

The Confluence has not endorsed McCain/Palin and most of the authors at this site (me included) haven’t made up our mind about how we’ll vote.

I have NO plans to vote for McCain. My only qualification on that feeling is that it is very possible that my disgust for the behavior of the DNC and the Obama campaign could push me over the edge to doing something (possibly) irrational.

Fowler’s remarks regarding God, Democrats and Hurricanes are a step in that direction.

    Please don’t leave.

  320. txpolitico — I know you from TL — everyone he is not a troll — please txpolitico don’t go — I think (to paraphrase obama) we may have a hair trigger over here today because we had some nasty, nasty trolls this morning.

  321. Can you believe……democrats are saying…..Palin is a bad choice because, McCain might die while in office, and then a WOMAN….would be president…..Democrats are saying, this…..democrats.

  322. We’re all friends here. Nobama is the rule. That’s all that matters.

    Truce?

I pledge of my boxsets of season 1 and season 2 of Psych that I shall judge no one on this site, except for trolls, and that I will use my best “independent judgment” before I accuse anyone of being a troll.

    Can I get a second?

  323. WMCB

They have every right to protest with their vote in that way, AND to advocate for and explain that choice here. I intend to go McCain/Palin as my eff you to the DNC, but their choice is just as valid. Be watchful for distracting “subtle” trolls, yes, but let’s not gag people with no reason.

Of course I agree with that! You are 100% correct.

Lately I’ve been thinking about what went wrong in the “liberal blogosphere” during the primaries. Part of the problem was that Dean and Co, caught us flat footed. The period of cognitive dissonance (What the heck is going on here?) was painful. Friendships were torn asunder. Some people seemed to have had nervous breakdowns right before my eyes.

Part of the problem is that is it very difficult to maintain the balance between discussion/disagreement and partisanship/propaganda. Once some blogs started banishing people for daring to say any positive about Clinton, I knew we were in big trouble.

The Obamabots pride themselves on “discipline” and “unity.” Disagree? We will not only banish you, we will call you unworthy to exist.

I admire the people on this blog for avoiding extremes. River Daughter in particular is a model of rational thinking. And humor. Always humor.

  324. I’m also interested in the TL in exile link. Could someone post it?

  325. Angie:

    This morning?

We were under a massive attack about 4 beers ago

  326. If someone could post the time that txpolitico67 was insulted, I’d like to look at the comment.

    Thanks.

  327. shoot = didn’t close the tag. Hate this keyboard.

  328. does it ever scare you that pellosi is third in line to the presidency? frankly, if i contemplate that too much, i can’t sleep at night

  329. myiq — Ok — my timing may be a little hazy — must be the beers.

  330. Was txpolitico67 insulted by the nomination of Sarah Palin?

Or by my politically incorrect humor?

    Or was it the decor?

I told you guys we need to get new curtains!

  331. katiebird — I don’t thing txpolitico was insulted per se — it was implied that he was an bot pretending to be Green to get us to not vote McCain — it I have understood the situation accurately — the beers, you know.

  332. I apologize if I have offended anybody here. Especially people in the Green Party.

  333. I don’t know, that’s why I’d like to know the time of the post. I don’t want to make any more of a comment without seeing it.

  334. corrente is pushing the fake pregnancy smear??? and they want to start progressive blogosphere 2.0? HA!!

  335. myiq — please don’t change your politically incorrect humor — its your best feature 😉

  336. No ba ma! No ba ma!

  337. Thanks angie. Yeah I see a LOT of people here from TL. Man I was about to say! Thanks katie for your response as well.

I am a HUGE Clintonista and was part of the investigations of the impropreities conducted by Obama here at the TX caucuses. I worked with Art Brender, former chair of the Dem party and Jason Smith, another attorney who were filing all kinds of reports on voter intimidation from the obamaho’s. I for one was called out but made SUCH a big stink that the Obamazoids backed down.

I love this site and it did kinda piss me off to be called an Obamatroll. I despise him as much as I do Bush43.

I will come back and see what’s going on. And for those who want to join me, Cream City, Java City, Psstcmere, Palomino, stxabuela and other TL renegades, we can be found here:

    http://groups.google.com/group/progressive-democrats-for-change?hl=en

  338. angie, do you have a time for the comment that made that implication?

The site administrators and authors try to keep up with the trollish comments. Sometimes we fall a little behind but, we catch up sooner or later ourselves.

  339. angie:

    Thanks

    I think

  340. myiq, I thought this picture might appeal to your “politically incorrect” sense of humor:

  341. txpolitico, I believe, was insulted by the post that warned to look out for Green Party voters. By Arabella, I think.

And I too, know him from TL – he’s not a troll. He’s just another refugee from the KoolAid.

  342. For women, voting against Obama IS voting for our own self interest. In planning their coup the Democratic party decided they could cast our voting block aside as a given because of R v W and they would not have to work for or ask for our vote.

That kind of taking for granted results in independence and many of us will independently vote for our own self respect and not for Barack Obama. Never.

  343. txpolitico67, what does it take to join that group? Are they the TL in Exile group you mentioned?

  344. TX Politico! Que pasa? It’s me, Merele. We met in El Paso. I don’t see that they’re letting me out of moderation, so I don’t know if you’ll ever see this.

  345. John Roberts is married to Cokie Roberts …

Cokie is not married to John Roberts. Her husband is not in the media.

  346. On Huffy they have an interview with BO tomorrow on 60 minutes. BO has a facial tick on his upper right face on the orbital bone. Kroft smirks when he asks about McCain’s choice. Bo declares he doesn’t know her but she is “a good Mother and up and coming political figure.”

These people have to be stopped.

    Punishment, Retribution and Reform 2008

    PUMA HAKA 👿

  347. corrente is pushing the fake pregnancy smear??? and they want to start progressive blogosphere 2.0? HA!!

    Truthiness, anyone?

    (snort)

  348. corrente is pushing the fake pregnancy smear??? and they want to start progressive blogosphere 2.0? HA!!

Well if the media covers that then surely they will also cover the “fake” Sinclair story.

  349. gary — I don’t know if that appealed to myiq’s politically incorrect sense of humor but it certainly appealed to mine! LMAO — it’s so funny ’cause its true.

  350. Thanks, angie. I’m going to delete your comment now that I’ve seen it….

I think it was a misunderstanding.

  351. We get lots of trolls here, and they use the names of real people

I think there is a portal to the troll underworld in the basement or something.

This place is like the town in Buffy the Vampire Slayer – all kinds of weird creatures emerge here

  352. Hello everyone–so little time to comment during family visits.

    MyIQ:
As always, your fangirl, but with this post you said it all for me. Fair is fair. Not that it matters to so many.

Sarah. She’s very intriging and frankly, not offensive to me. I love that quote on the hypothetical abortion question. If we’re looking at Pres McCain, I’m getting cozier with it by the minute.

    Arabella,

I just don’t think these Dem clowns (myiq-no offense to clowns) can out-steal the Repubs in any case. And Mac and Co will win fair and square by a good margin..

OT: I just said goodbye to Katiebird with tears. Why can’t I have my beloved sister in my city?? Kind of emotional about it right now……. 😦

  353. “dakinikat, on August 30th, 2008 at 8:33 pm Said:

It scares me…all that’s stopping her from being the leader of the free world is one heartbeat and Cheney’s battery pack.

Speaking of which, where is Cheney? I haven’t seen him in forever. Not complaining, just wondering.

  354. myiq2xu, What are you drinking ???? I want some please……….

  355. I unwittingly insulted txpolitico. Once again, I apologize.

I have been thinking about how Obama will use “divide and conquer” to win the election. He can’t win on the merits.

I guess I’ll use names like the Kucha Tribe (from Survivor) to avoid offending.

I am at odds with some dear friends (academics) who have unleashed tons of vitriol over Palin. They hate Hillary and love Obama.

I should remember that it’s easy to go overboard and hurt people’s feelings.

  356. angie, my favorite part is that they are “realistically sized” :O

  357. gary — LOL!!!

  358. Correct angie. I saw that and it really disappointed me. I have posted on here before and have been a big commenter on TL for months.

I appreciate you and echonpsia for ID’ing me and letting katiebird I am NOT a troll, but like it was so succinctly put, “a refugee from the kool aid”.

  359. So, what do I have to do to join the conversation?

  360. I am an registered independent voter in Nebraska. I am politically astute and try to gather evidence before “falling head over heals” with a candidate. i watch Fox and MSNBC and I can’t believe that FOX treated Hillary with more respect than any other news network. I think that the media being in the tank for Obama changed the outcome of the election. I was not a big Hillary fan, but she is by far the more qualified candidate. Its the people like me who would have had a hard choice choosing between Clinton and McCain that Obama is going to lose in this election. He is an empty vessel. Palin was a brilliant choice.

  361. Just for laughs does anyone think ” i cried my eyelashes off ” Oprah will have Sarah Palin on her show??

  362. {{txpolitico67}}

  367. We get lots of trolls here, and they use the names of real people

I remember in the old days when trolls used to steal other posters’ names and make stupid comments.

Looks like I won’t be going back to TL any more as I can’t get on at all. Do people just get banned there without warning?

This election season is a doozie.

  368. Cindy — battery pack? Don’t you know Cheney doesn’t have a heart.

  369. Thanks myiq2xu we will have to get drunk and compare iqs some time 😉

  370. Henry…

    Yes.

  371. Sorry if this is a re-post but this is totally outrageous”

The controversial documentary filmmaker appeared on Friday evening’s edition of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” on MSNBC and said, “Gustav is proof there is a God…that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for day one of the Republican convention in the Twin Cities at the top of the Mississippi River.”

  372. I just posted a comment I am the woman from Nebraska. I saw that someone else was posting from the name angie as well so i chose to use my full name. I hope that doesn’t offend anyone. i was reading some of the other blog posts and you talk of trolls, what does that mean? you don’t want to alienate people who are sympathetic with your cause or do you?

Its the people like me who would have had a hard choice choosing between Clinton and McCain that Obama is going to lose in this election. He is an empty vessel. Palin was a brilliant choice.

Not that I’m offended by anything here, but I didn’t write this & some one posted it using my name. Should I be worried?

  374. Cokie Robert is married to John Robert from NPR, not to that clown on CNN (btw he lost the anchor job to a girl)

Cokie Roberts is married to Steve Roberts. Here’s his wikipedia entry.

  375. Michael Moore gives liberals a bad name in my opinion. He is an idiot.

  376. The battery pack is in place of, not assisting. 😉

  377. does it ever scare you that pellosi is third in line to the presidency? frankly, if i contemplate that too much, i can’t sleep at night

Nancy is really working that princess phone:

“Hi, _______. This is Nancy. Yeah, fine thanks. Listen, let me run a a scenario by you. Let’s say the president dies peacefully in his sleep after a long and happy life. At the exact same moment, the Vice President goes into labor ….”

Then Nancy can be the First Woman President for a day!

  378. Ok — I think the poster now posting under “angiethorpe” posted that first comment under “angie”

  379. There is more than one person in the world name angie, i didn’t know screen names were so entrenced on this site. Sorry

  380. txpolitico67:

Have you seen the movie “The Patriot?”

Remember when Mel Gibson and the French guy walk in a pub, Mel says “Long live King George” and everyone starts drawing knives and guns?

That’s how we react to trolls, and some of our regulars here are a tad quick on the draw.

Lots of us were “traumatized” during the primaries, and since then we’re not too trusting anymore.

But welcome, and make yourself at home

  381. myiq, that would be Sunnydale. HUGE BTVS and Angel fan here. As for you Merle Perkins, I don’t remember when we met…was it the LAST Dem convention held in EP? I had been ALL OVER TX working for Hillary and met SOOO many great liberals along the way, so forgive me.

Check out my blog and see my picture. Hope I am the one u r thinking I am.

Thanks for the hugs katiebird and for the props angie and echni. And Arabella, I am sorry I was such a drama queen to you. Just, when it comes to Obamaho, it strikes a nerve. I would never vote for a man who has NO respect for women. Never. I would rather handle a rattlesnake. And for those who know me, understand the gravitas of that stmt.

Come by and join the TL in exile party!

  382. Merle Perkins,

2 days ago a particularly disgusting troll was posting from the same IP as you. So we put your IP in the moderation que.

    Do you share your computer?

  383. i didn’t know screen names were so entrenced on this site. Sorry

Actually, if you think about it, it just avoids confusion. Besides, would you want other posters to associate you with stupid or inflammatory comments if some were made by a person with your same posting name?

If I make a dumb comment, I own it. 🙂

  384. McCain said at the rally in PA today that he’s running “to fight for you, to make government stand on your side, not in your way.”

In Palin, he found “the right partner to help me stand up to those who value their privileges over their responsibilities, who put power over principle, and put their interests before your needs.”

McCain has enough money and power to just retire yet he wants to serve the people.

Palin would have had a whole lot more fun as Gov over VP yet she is willing to work with all other elected persons to serve WE THE PEOPLE.

McCain is a real person, rich yes, but more important honest. He picked Sarah because she is also a real person, young yes, but more important she has worked her way to her current job, not by pushing the systems to work for her but working for the people and making the systems of government work for her constituents.

CNN, C-SPAN, FOX, MSNBC, & PBS et al, must now show the playing field as even.

Obama: 7yrs state senator + 2yrs US senator =9 years

    Palin: 4yrs city council + 6yrs Mayor + 2yrs Governor = 12 years

McCain-Palin: One young enough to ask the hard questions and want answers & One old enough to know where to find the answers, and who can help with the real work ahead.

WE THE PEOPLE need the work done and done right.

WE THE PEOPLE must make the best choice for America and the future.

Fancy stages and lofty speeches don’t get the job done. Action and results do.

Why can’t media just give us the facts for a few weeks? They are so in the tank for Obama.

And look at some of ther Democrats mocking the choice in Sarah Palin.

How many more women will the Obamabots and DNC elites throw under the bus?

McCain’s choice of Governor Palin for VP is a strategically brilliant development for We The People of the USA.

That is why the Obamabots are hell bent on trying to shove Obama down every woman’s thraot in America to try and silence their voice.

Women in America: YOU HAVE THE POWER!

YOU HAVE A VOICE! DON’T LET OBAMA SILENCE YOUR VOICE! DON’T LET THE DEN ELITES GET AWAY WITH WHAT THEY DID! IT IS TIME TO SHAKE UP THE WASHINGTON ESTABLISHMENT AND THE GOOD OLD BOY NETWORK THAT IS TAKING OVER THE DNC! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

IN NOVEMBER, LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR!

    AMERICA FIRST!

    MCCAIN-PALIN ’08
    HILLARY ’12

  385. I will be voting for McCain/Palin in 2008, because they put women ON the bus, not under it. If it takes pulling a “R” lever to send that message, so be it.

Great line WMCB! Messages like this are what PUMA needs to take to the media for talking points.

  386. Swan:

    AMEN, 48!

  388. pie:

Thanks for correcting. I meant Steve Roberts only I got soo angry at John since yesterday that he is stuck in my head.

  389. “I was just trying to point out to those who would vote McCain/Palin for the reason that she is a woman, even though they don’t represent their interests to try McKinney/Clemente who are probaly more closely aligned with people’s priorities here.”

I really admire Cynthia McKinney, and I hate how she also got screwed over by this party. And if she had a chance to win my state or to become President, she would have my vote. I don’t really think, though, most Clinton supporters who are voting for M/P are doing it just because she’s a woman, not that there’s anything wrong with that. Yes, watching Axlerod getting his ass handed to him by a ticket that includes a woman is poetic justice on a cosmic level, but the most important thing is to prevent the Obots from completely taking over this party. If Obama does not lose this election, then they’re going to have their hands on the levers forever, there’s nothing they won’t be able to get away with, and we’re just screwed. Barring the Democratic Party cracking up completely and being replaced by something else, it could be generations before we had any kind of liberal, humanist, ethical alternative.

  390. I’m betting that Obama will do pull and Eagleton on Biden. Seriously.

Not seriously – He’s begging Oprah to be his VP.

Seriously: Does Obama have some kind of facial tic going on?

  391. Even if McCains choice were cynical he is still trying to reach out to women voters. Do any of you really believe Roe V. Wade is a presidenital issue. He can nominate the supreme court justices, yes , but do you really think he will nominate people that pander to evangelical vote after all the shit they have talked to him. Roe v. wade is a non issue in my book. I would rather vote for an independent woman like palin than someone who panders to sepratist bullshit like obama and denies it. . I think if obama is elected it will be a disaster for the county. \

  392. WSJ likes and respects Governor Palin:

“Against the odds, Mrs. Palin won that 2006 election against the state’s former Democratic governor Tony Knowles. Most recently, she promoted the effort of her GOP lieutenant governor to unseat U.S. Congressman Don Young, who with Senator Stevens created the earmark that sank the GOP, the notorious “bridge to nowhere.”

    Experience?

For starters, we’d say Governor Palin’s credentials as an agent of reform exceed Barack Obama’s. Mr. Obama rose through the Chicago Democratic machine without a peep of push-back. Alaska’s politics are deeply inbred and backed by energy-industry money. Mr. Obama slid past the kind of forces that Mrs. Palin took head on. This is one reason her selection — despite its campaign risks — seems to have been so well received by Republicans yesterday. They are looking for a new generation of leaders.”

So, you just keep smirking media and referring to her experience as ” a good Mother”. Because those of us that have had to be “good Mothers” and have appreciated “good Mothers” along with working hard at other full time jobs see your insults for what they are: cheap immature ignorant self loathing.

    Punishment, Retribution and Reform 2008

Hillary or McCain 2008 – you help us decide!

    PUMA HAKA 👿

Don’t expect this remarkable personal Palin narrative to get an Obama-like break from the national media. Their main focus will be her lack of experience, claiming it undercuts Mr. McCain’s criticism of Barack Obama. One mispronounced foreign leader’s name, and she’s going to be hammered.

  393. Dear commenter known as Seriously –

    My post @ 9:01

I didn’t mean “seriously” to address you. I meant “seriously” as in “I’m serious.”

Shoot, I should close up for the night. I’m making one faux pas after another.

  394. angiethorpe — I didn’t mean to offend you & like I said nothing you wrote in your original post under “angie” offended me — it is just that a while back we had a rash of posters who were “stealing” our names & posting some really hateful stuff — that was why I was worried — I was afraid that you might have been one of those people & would start posting hateful things & people would think I had done it. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but to avoid confusion it is always a good idea to check out other posters’ names before posting when on a new site.

  395. carol, it made me think of that salon…or was it slate video that compared Hillary to Reese Witherspoon in “Election” (as if that were a BAD thing)…and I think the comparison fits with Palin too…someone who not only is ambitious, but has got what it takes to always end up on top. If that isn’t what makes a great politician, I don’t know what does.

  396. I was just reading an article about the electoral college and what states these guys have to win. IF McCain wins Pennsylvania or Michigan he is the President. With Palin he probably just locked up Colorado and Missouri. You aren’t going to see Obama much in Missouri. Of course that assumes he wins Ohio and Florida. You aren’t going to see much of Obama in Florida either. Wow, if Hillary on the ticket McCain would be all over the US. That playing field got a lot smaller.

  397. doesn’t Obama have to win Virginia AND Colorado just to have a shot?

  398. OK, you all have inspired me. I’m going to write a small game that involves Obamabots dancing as puppets. Please list some fun things they should do. It will be free, or maybe a small fee going to PUMA orgs.

So far I’m thinking they mull around until a female character shows up (you the player). Then they all run over and start dancing around annoying her. She slaps them down. But I need more than that. Ideas?

  399. Palin will get the star-treatment that Obama had enjoyed. Like Billy Bob Thornton said when he played James Carville in “Primary Colors”, “The media giveth and fuck you!”

Obama just got kicked to the curb so fast! Anyone ever see CHICAGO with Rene Zeweller? When Lucy Liu’s character gets arrested and all the attention is taken off of her? You see her name ROXIE in lights and the lights get turned off and the voices diminish: “R-O-x-z-y”

That’s what happened when Palin was introduced: “OH-B-A-m-uh….”

  400. Gary: That’s funny you mentioned Election because it always reminded me of the primary race. Hillary was Reece and Matthew Broderick was the composite of Dean, Brazile, Pelosi, and Kerry and the rest.

  401. What is a troll, is that like a mole for the other campaign. Im new to this campaign lingo. i am real sympthetic with your cause. I think Hillary got screwed in a biblical way.

  402. I can’t beleive it took 2 full hours and a retraction before Obamantion could say something polite and gracious about Palin.

    That’s just basic stuff.

“We congratulate Gov. Palin on her nomination. This will truly be a historic campaign”

Instead, they immediately go on the attack and look like dickheads.

    Actually, they are dickheads.

  403. txpolitico67, thank you for the link — checking it out now. I saw some great posters on TL and I believe one or two I recognized from other sites. I’m glad folks are finding a new and better home. Long live exiles! We know how to party!

  404. Exactly, Gary. I think Colorado is gone for him. I’m thinking he will take Iowa but Palin may make the difference there…all those church ladies will start getting on the phones.

  405. ben, didn’t you see that video they made…I think it was salon.com…they compared Hillary to Reese, but made it look like that was a bad thing..you know she’s all power mad and “anything to win”…and the obots loved it. maybe if they had actually watched the movie…..

  406. Did I mention (yes a million times) that Palin’s husband is in the United Steelworkers Union. Just saying…

And here in Virginia? You’ve got to be kidding me. It’s McCain in VA by 10 points, no matter what the pols are saying.

And speaking of VA, I was listening to local radio here today and listened to a number of republican women who were very excited about Hillary and were going to vote for her. Now they’re excited about Palin. So it wasn’t just dems that Hillary captured.

  407. And McCain is ahead thanks to Palin – in the latest Zogby
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/and-palin-gives-mccain-a-boost-in-zogby-poll/ (PUMA at 22%)

  408. Joanieb

I just don’t think these Dem clowns (myiq-no offense to clowns) can out-steal the Repubs in any case. And Mac and Co will win fair and square by a good margin..

I hope you’re right. They only way Obama can win is to game the system. I fear that he’ll win “the Chicago way.” Like I said, he can’t win unless he cheats.

  409. ben, she may also swing Minnesota….McCain had already pulled to within 4 their….we just drove through there today and a woman came up to the RV at the gas station to ask what it was about. The woman said that she was not going to vote at all until he picked Palin, now she’s voting for them.

  410. George, when did you turn into Henry? Forgot which username you were trolling with?

Yes, little man (men?), anything can happen in four years. In fact, anything can happen in the next two months. And I have a feeling you’re not going to be liking a lot of what is about to transpire in the short term.

  411. trolls are a subhuman form of life

They reproduce by fission because even other trolls won’t f*ck ’em.

  412. Where is Obama in the next few days?

    Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio. Hmmmm.

  413. Thanks for the appology angie. I heard about your cause on Larry King. I think you had a representative on last night. She was very intelligent and i like what she had to say. like i said earlier. For independent voters like me it is sickening to watch MSNBC and other obama people follow this man without questions. What did Hillary do to offend the left. I think most of her positions were attractive to moderate progressives. Maybe you can help me to understand it? Like i said its a much harder choice between Hillary and McCain than Obama and McCain.

    ———–

You know, this is the kind of thing that makes me feel like alice has truly gone through the looking glass. I’m supposed to believe that “progressives” and “Democrats” are somehow superior when this is just one of the jokes about Gustav I’ve read? Who the hell are these people I used to respect? Whose side am I on? Who are the good guys?

    I can’t tell anymore.

  415. This could easily be another popular win and electoral loss for the Ds.

  416. Arabella, yeah, I got it, it wasn’t a faux pas. 🙂

  417. Strange, my bullshit/troll detector just went off

  418. alice, I’ve felt the same way for quite a while now. If this is a bad dream, we’re all in it together.

  419. {{txpolitico}} — we are all getting a little haywire these days!

angiethorpe — I agree with you about choice not being a presidential issue — the executive branch doesn’t make the laws, only enforces them — yes, the Pres. gets to nominate justices to the USSC, but the Senate confirms those nominations — the Senate would get off their @sses and not just “rubber stamp” every judicial nominee (and anyone who remembers the Bork hearings remembers that it can be done) then we really have nothing to worry about. Besides that, I’m done being threatened with the loss of rights I already have to cast my vote for a man who thinks women go out and have late term abortions because they are “feeling blue” and who calls professional women who are not related to him “sweetie.” Yeah, he really cares about my issues.

  420. I don’t think BO’s fragile ego is going to be able to handle it when 2 women end his career (not including militant MO, of course).

Hillary or McCain 2009 – you decide!

  421. angiethrope — “trolls” are lingo on all blogs for posters who come on to blogs not for honest discourse, etc. but only to harass & insult others. They are usually very vulgar.

  422. Arabella Trefoil

re: Obama gaming the system … is there anyway that we as American citizens can request that the UN send foreign election monitors (not Carter’s buddies though!) to ensure a clean and fair voting process?

Maybe it would be a good Puma prowl, to send an email request to the UN and copy the DNC members on it! LOL

  423. Did the Constitution change and now Presidents are able to appoint people to the SCOTUS without the Senate’s approval? I’m pretty sure it didn’t, so why all the hand wringing in the first place?

McCain could nominate Dr. Phil if he wanted to but that doesn’t mean the Senate has to roll over and play dead while he does it.

Although after FISA, it looks like some of them are used to doing just that.

  424. I’m gonna throw this out to the house for reaction:

I have never dropped into a blog comment thread and started asking people questions.

But I have seen 1,452,989,446 trolls use some variation on “help me understand”

    Conflucians?

[……….]’

‘…So either the ratfuckers outnumbered the real liberal.progressive Democrats, or they really were Obama supporters. Because the former requires I believe that there was a massive conspiracy, I’m going with the latter.'”

Yes, they’re REAL Obama supporters. My former online community was taken over by the same..umm..weirdness, on the part of people I’d been posting with for ~10 yrs. All former Clinton supporters from the time of the impeachment. I can’t describe the shock I felt and still feel if I look in there. Thank goodness I found Riverdaughter early on! This blog has been a true refuge.

to wit, may I say…welcome, echinopsia! I knew you would eventually have to land here, with Jeralyn going off at TL, and others beginning to sip the kool-aid…

Waving to Paul Lukasiak, too! 🙂

  426. gary – I haven’t seen Election in a long time. I don’t remember it.

Are you guys still headed to Texas or did you decide to go north?

  427. “help me understand” sends messages straight into the troll-bin when I’m in a hurry. If I have time? I play.

But, it’s a phrase only used by trolls. Always.

  428. carol, we came north…we wanted to see mt rushmore. I’m sorry, we’ll be down to help with the christmas decorations next may… 🙂 no, seriously would have loved to meet you and everyone else..

  429. katie, or what about the “I was a Hillary supporter too, but….”

  430. There’s definitely a pattern to the trolls. “Help me understand” and “what does THAT mean?” comes off as sooo amateurish, so pedestrian…no wonder it’s easy to connect the dots back to Obamaho.

A good answer is, “well, sweetie, it works like this…” and ZAP those ‘bots!

  431. regrl – That’s an idea. We need to do something to make sure Obama doesn’t steal this thing.

edgeof4ever – Thanks for sharing the poll info. Now I am sure that Obama will drop Biden. Eagleton got dropped 2 weeks after the convention. Let’s start a pool. Time and date Biden resigns “for personal reasons” and name of replacement,

Oprah looks better and better all the time as a VP candidate. (joking, joking)

  432. “help me understand” is part of the troll secret handshake.

  433. “help me understand” translates in trolldom to “I refuse to read any part of your posts and am only able to copy and paste talking points from Ernie in my 3rd period Algebra class.”

It’s true. I found a Troll to English dictionary.

  434. gary – that’s okay. I was so happy with the Palin pick yesterday, I released Eddy to Pat unharmed and untainted – no need to rescue him.

  435. Furry Buddha:

I told you guys I was politically incorrect.

In the immortal words of George Carlin:

    Nobama! No way! No how!

    Viva Hillary por siempre!
    Clinton 2012

  437. IMO, “help me understand” = troll because usually non-trolls lurk for a while & understand what a blog is all about before they start posting.

  438. gary – are ya going to try and see any of the rallies going on up north?

  439. ‘Nite txpolitico — good seeing you here.

  440. My parents wasted their retirement sending me to college

(edited for the amusement of myiq2xu)

  441. Is Furry Buddha a troll’s mother who is concern-trolling because I made fun of her half-wit spawn?

    Do trolls have mothers?

  442. myiq:

I like the Ward Cleaver troll lines:

    “Are you seriously telling me..’
“I can’t believe you are going to …”
“I’m shocked to hear you say …..”
“Now Beaver, your Mother and I already told you …”

Whoops – that last line shouldn’t be in there. What a bad night I’m having. Must be the new key board, dang it.

  443. carol, at this point we’re just trying to get home….We want to try and stop and get a pitcure of the pumamobile in front of Obama’s house in Chicago, but I just read a story in the chicago tribune that the chicago pd have really beefed up security. If not, we’ll do somethin at the U of Chicago nearby….

  444. I have always voted democratic so this is really a tough decision. Many of my friends say reluctantly they will vote for Obama. I just can’t do it. Guilt or no guilt, I’m going with McCain. The DNC, and many of the so called old dems treated Hillary terribly. Does anybody remember the 1980 nominating process? Kennedy did not even shake Carter’s hand. Oh but, the Clinton’s were supposed to fall all over Obama. MSNBC has lost all respect as a cable channel. As Obama says, ENOUGH!! He won’t get my vote.

  445. Delurking just to say that I hope all the Conflucians in the Gustav cycle are battened down and safe, and I hope it won’t be as bad as the news is projecting. Stay safe.
    Back to lurking.

  446. Oh good. I hadn’t been called a rac*st in at least 30 minutes. I was starting to feel like no one cared.

  447. Spot another troll! And the winner is … (drum roll, please) … CDR! Jim, tell him what he’s won.

    NOTHING! Especially this ’08 election.

And it’s way past your bedtime CDR. Go get your milk and cookies and your footy PJs so your mom can tuck you into bed.

  448. If the DNC had any sense, they’d do an Eagleton on Obama and give us Hillary back. She would then immediately 86 credit card Joe from the ticket and put Clark on & victory in Nov. is hers. Of course, the DNC has NO SENSE, or they wouldn’t have lied, cheated & stolen the primary for Obama.

  449. Ooof! It’s time for a new thread! This is a long one!

  450. This is interesting:

It’s a story in the Juneau Empire.

Palin, however, isn’t interested in talking about her views.

“She would not seek out this issue. She feels like there are several other issues that are paramount to the future of the state,” said Curtis Smith, spokesman for the Palin campaign.

Smith said the important thing about Palin’s abortion views is that she wouldn’t be proposing new anti-abortion legislation, and that while her views on the subject are firm, she’s not running for office to advocate for them.

He accused the Knowles campaign of trying to politicize the issue.

“Tony Knowles is working to divide Alaskans by making abortion an issue,” Smith said.

And for those who say this was only a smokescreen to hide her true intentions: when she got into office, she was true to her word.

  451. What is going on here. So many new names. It’s wonderful.

I am excited about Palin. The more I read about her, the more I like her.

    Obama is really F’d.

  452. petey — when the DNC gave me Kerry I reluctantly voted for him. Not anymore, and especially not this time after witnessing what went on in this primary — the sexism & the rigging. The DNC doesn’t deserve my support.

  453. Oh goodie. Troll editing again. Its so much fun. Now I’ll have to read this whole long thread!

  454. Charles,
The link that was posted above is just a google group that I set up so that the refugees from TL would have a place to find each other. It’s not a blog, and I don’t have the time right now to manage one. If you’d like to go there and scoop up the email addresses and send them an invite to join you at your blog, they’re a fun bunch. I lost my TL posting privileges after I published the link. I don’t know if it was done to me on purpose or if there was just some glitch in their system. I’m not really interested in the TL site enough anymore to ask.

    Sam’s mom

  455. fif:

Cokie Robert is married to John Robert from NPR, not to that clown on CNN (btw he lost the anchor job to a girl)

MABlue: no, RD explained earlier, Cokie is married to Steve Roberts, he was a journalist for NY Times and US News & World Reports. I’m not sure if he is still writing, but he and Cokie also published a book together. Cokie spoke up for women during the primaries, especially at the end. Of course, no one listened.

  456. tx, what is the TL in exile site and how come nobody told me about it?

  457. MSNBC has video of Sarah. Turns out she was a Sports Anchor also.

This will be very upsetting to KO. She moved from Sports Anchor to VP.

    PUMA HAPPY!

  458. Mawm: “I am excited about Palin. The more I read about her, the more I like her.

    Obama is really F’d.”

Hi Guys! let’s toast to that!

  459. Hi fif! I’m on the blog tonight too!

  460. Husband just got home from a Democratic event and told me everyone is thrilled with the stupid choice McCain made.

I defended her and he replied,

    “She’s just got tits”.

I yelled, ONE MORE COMMENT LIKE THAT AND I WON’T VOTE DOWN TICKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God, who knew we’d be at each others throats and we’re BOTH DEMOCRATS.

  461. NEW POST!

  462. Who here goes by “Smitty” from Northeast PA?

  463. myiq2xu The drunker you get the smoker I get
and my iq slides blissfully into double digits , that is if I am not seeing double …

    I have a question too
now why is it even drunken smokin conflucians are smarter than people asking for help with understanding ?

I had a response to someone named JIm on another thread

JIm ….I am so sorry you are late to the PUMA PARTY and that we have answered that question so many times in so many ways . it isnt JUST about Hillary. go back and read some of the earlier posts instead of showing up late uninformed and expecting people to answer your question and do your damned work for YOU … you want fries with that??

but i wasnt as “pleasant ” 😉 at that moment as i am now

  464. aww…I guess you weren’t amused 🙂 lol

  465. furious buddha is such an oxymoron and a regular moron too

  466. bye bye buddha, you’re not very funny anymore. scurry on back to your own little kingdom of darkness

  467. waving to echinopsia! RD talked about how hard you worked in Denver.

Thanks for posting that bit on Palin/abortion. I was looking for it earlier.

    shep

  468. They say on CNN that the crowd booed when Palin mentioned Hillary, and they make it sound like Hillary’s supporters don’t support Palin.

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

I tried to post a comment, but they are moderating. I guess they just want comments that support their delusions?

I am going to the McCain rally in Missouri tomorrow. I got the tickets before he picked Palin, so I guess I luck out getting to see the first Republican woman on a national ticket.

I am sure the boos were Obama trolls at the rally.

  469. Someone mentioned a TL in exile site. Care to share? What’s it about. I’m still commenting there a lot, but my days are probably numbered. Thanks.

  470. Nice article echinopsia. And yes, dems do indeed seem to hate women. Who knew.

  471. The Zogby poll suggests that Palin has singlehandedly turned around the campaign in a single day. That’s why the bastards struggled so hard to define and defame her.

Hey, before I forget, what was the name of that good looking Democrat she defeated?

  472. Wow, have you noticed Jeralyn’s latest two posts (and a few recently) on TL. She’s gone DKos level sliming it seems. Including displaying lists of questions that are pure sexism. What’s happening. Since when did she join the make a Democrat president no matter what the cost gang?

  473. Jmac, the DNC will probably file a lawsuit to overturn the results on election on grounds of “There’s something in the Constitution about ‘No fat Chicks,’ and she could get pregnant while in office.”

  474. I am no longer a dummycrat.

  475. […] PUMA is afraid of this post. Here’s most of the comments that were so scary that the PUMA’s had to delete them. I will update this at my whim. Garychapelhill is referring to previous comments that were deleted. There was no cursing or whatnot in them, just the observation that I have done this for years and never encountered anyone as relentlessly neurotic about removing all trace of dissent from their talkboards. In terms of this one thing, PUMA is literally worse than any radical right wing nutjob. They are stupid like the Kevin Kline character in ‘A Fish Called Wanda’, which is the wo…. […]

  476. I support McCain, regardless of his running mate. it does sadden me that some women, ironically, are not giving her a fair shake (“She is no HIllary! We aren’t falling fo this”–note that these comments aren’t from PUMA’s–mostly Obama supporters pretending to be otherwise)
As an avid political junkie, I can say that Palin’s name has been floated for months. She was a dark horse candidate.
She has accomplished important things while Governor, etc.
On an anti-Hillary, pro-Obama website, a blogger referred to Palin as a “girl” and beauty queen. Well, where I come from , women who are in their forties, who are Governors, are women, not girls.
Some people act like she is some former pageant queen with no experience….I guess you can’t be pretty and accomplished?!
She is already getting the Hillary treatment. I worry about the McCain ticket because we know, us PUMA’s, that anything a woman does is super scrutinized and we have to do TWICE the work to get recognition.

  477. Cynthia McKinney anyone?

  478. Good Job McCain/Palin. Anybody BUT obama will get my vote and that is how Millions of Americans feel.
Funny how the obama gang says woman will vote for Palin just because she is a woman – BUT – it seems OK that 98% of the AA community will vote for obama -due to “race pride”!! The question should be is obama qualified to be President – NOT is Palin qualified to be VICE Pres.
Obama is a FRAUD – he will never be elected.

  479. The prospect of a 2012 Clinton nomination following a McCain preisdency intrigues, especially if Obama loses by only a small margin. The perception (whether accurate or not) that some percentage of Clinton supporters tipped the balance may affect how voters turn out next time around. I’m sure someone’s already working on an acronym now.

  480. I’m going to my happy place.

    (Edited for Clarity)

  481. Angie- I read what you wrote about trolls, i guess i haven’t really posted on one of these sites before, so i could have seemed like a troll. i try not to be on the computer very much, just to avoid obamamania. someone mentioned the media is going to start attacking palin and the left wing pundits are already going at it. i agree with the other people on here that she has more executive experience than obama already. I disagree with you, john, that closing down the department of education is what M/P stand for. I have said this before. R VS W is not a presidential campaign issue. John McCain must have a more favorable opinion of women than obama if he is willing to put one on the ticket. The DOE in my City Lincoln, NE gets an outrageous amount of the taxes here and does absolutely nothing, they cut programs for seniors but not the DOE. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if the teachers unions were taken down a notch, at least placed on some type of performance review. Bureacracy at its worst will be times 10 with Obamas empty promises. At least Hillary and McCain have a plan.

  482. […] can, but it’s more difficult and time consuming than most people appreciate. Back when I was annoying PUMA’s I started putting together a strip featuring ‘myiq2xu’, one of the proud PUMA […]
