Let it all out

Marc Ambinder at The Atlantic reports David Plouffe saying that all the Obama campaign cares about is 18 states:

“The development on the out of touch argument is an actually critical development of the campaign,” he said, because “[s]ome of the voters images of McCain don’t jibe with reality.”

He acknowledged that the campaign still had work to do in order to fill in some details about Barack Obama. “We have to be very careful how we approach the swing electorate because they don’t have the information about Barack Obama.”

“All we care about is these 18 states,” he said. He repeated, with emphasis, that the campaign does not care about national polling. Instead, the campaign’s own identification, registration and canvassing efforts provide the data he uses to determine where to invest money and resources.”

Well, that’s nice.  I hope NJ isn’t one of them.  Oh, and it looks like Plouffe and Axlerod are planning perception management in the swing states where they don’t know about Obama.  Them stoopid people gotta be ejucated and get nollij about Obama and then they will forget all about having their primary votes nullified.  Piece of cake!

This is an open thread.

  1. Interesting. I just read today that Ohio changed their registration rules. You can now register day of voting and don’t have to have a picture id. Can you imagine?

My hunch is Strickland is giving Ohio to BO, so we should plan on working on other states.

  2. Then McCain needs to send poll watchers to Ohio the day of the election.

  3. How long does it take to drive from CT to HO? Maybe I’ll go register too!

  4. that’s OH…

  5. Oh no!

What happened to the 50 States strategy? BWAHAHAHAHA!

Are they gonna distribute Obama 2 bestsellers to those people? I heard that was among O”s qualifications to be POTUS. Never mind that Ann Coulter has 5 NYTimes bestsellers.

  6. “The development on the out of touch argument is an actually critical development of the campaign,” he said, because “[s]ome of the voters images of McCain don’t jibe with reality.”

What does this quote mean? The disconnect with BO or McCain?

And don’t you just love this “people need to get to know BO?” The media has been shoving this guy down our throats for MONTHS and people just need more time? He was in PA for 6 weeks and they rejected him, a key swing state, so they need what? Another six weeks?

  7. it would be refreshing to have ‘the’ nominee care about all Americans, where ever we may be.

Alas, the democrats have proven they are an ass…

Do not blame me, I did not select the nominee…

This is a sad, sad day for me.

  8. I just read today that Ohio changed their registration rules. You can now register day of voting and don’t have to have a picture id. Can you imagine?

That is very very suspicious. Sounds like “caucusizing” Ohio.

  9. Why plan on working on other states? Ohio is one of the swing states where McCain is ahead in the polls. Why not work on a rousing intro to national politics for the chosen one? McCain is doing a pretty good job, and his campaign seems to be having a good time doing it. the ads are hillarious and true. It would seem that the McCain campaign is not even having to work hard right now to make Obama look foolish and ill prepared for the oval office. I wonder what is going to happen when they get serious..

  10. Remember Sophie, Bros before HOs,

I’m not watching Bill Clinton tonight. I have no stomach for it. It will make me too sad for the glory of 1992.

  11. 50% of the Democratic party – toilet paper.

32 out 50 states for the electoral vote – more toilet paper.

No wonder they HAVE to cheat to win an election.

I let it out Riverdaughter all over in the comments & posts of your lovely little cottage safe haven blog.

What can I say except this voter fraud was 10 times worse than Gore 2000, yet I feel really alright with everything because I KNOW that Republicans are going to teach the DNC a new lesson at villainery.

And to any Nader voter that I ever insulted throughout the years, I am truly sorry. I now know how you feel.

  12. “How Many at Invesco Field Will Be There Because They’ve Been Coerced?? Here’s a true example….”

    http://insightanalytical.wordpress.com/2008/08/27/how-many-at-invesco-field-will-be-there-because-theyve-been-coerced-heres-a-true-example/

    Really, this is crap!!!!

  13. Why doesn’t some citizen or group file suit in Ohio. Why are people just laying back and letting the Dems destroy the power of our vote.

If no one in Ohio challenges this action, then they can’t complain about it.

  14. No way! No how! No Bama! No Vember!

  15. Plouffe says swing voters don’t have enough info on O? Obviously he didn’t see the recent poll that said a majority of Americans are sick of hearing about O. Sheesh.

  16. Speaker is talking about violence against women. Maybe someone should put this video up on the big screen.

  17. What happened to the 50 state strategy? Can’t steal that many states– but all the same Hail to the Thief.

  18. I agree sm77. I see it this way – we lost our democracy in 2000 when we had to have the supremes step in. And instead of the Democrats stepping up and fixing our broken system, they decided to get down into the mud and play dirty.

I look forward to his loss in November so we can re-build this mo-fo party.

  19. Will they be busing people into OH from IL?

  20. “We have to be very careful how we approach the swing electorate because they don’t have the information about Barack Obama.”

“information about Obama” or the TRUTH about Obama?

Hooey! I have a file I’d be glad to share with them–then they’ll have lots of info about O. Where can we send facts? Maybe back to the Letter to Eds again.

  21. David Soufflé is an asshole. This little dweeb was the chief savager of Hillary Clinton in the primaries, pretty much calling her a fraud daily.

  22. I am feeling very much betrayed right now, but I still think that Obama is not going to make it to November, because now the scandals, and inadequacies are going to come way up and the poll numbers are going to go way down.

Obama was there to make sure Hillary doesn’t get near the presidency, and he has now served his purpose. Lets see if the big guns come out now…

  23. I feel like we are standing in front of a runaway train…heading full speed at a terrible curve. We know what’s going to happen but we can’t stop it.

    Mountain Sage

  24. In all my years I never thought I’d be looking forward to the Republican warships opening fire on a Democratic candidate–until now. Apparently I’ve been thrown into a parallel universe. All that is left for me is to hope McCain is smart enough to pick a woman VP (if Fritz Mondale could do it 24 YEARS ago, he can do it too), and send the DNC leadership back to the cesspool of their choice. Every woman in this country should be outraged right now.

  25. Can’t believe I’m still watching the convention on C-SPAN, but they just voted Biden in for VP by acclamation.

Thank GOD! I don’t know why I even worried about a floor vote for Hillary as VP.

  26. wait, so now you’re complaining that he’s adopting the clinton strategy of only going after select states?

    wtf is wrong w/you losers.

  27. meileen, I hate to say it, but if Obama wins Ohio he will almost certainly be elected President.

  28. Count on it plural.

  29. “I’m voting for Barack Obama because the Clintons cling to the outmoded and divisive strategy of 50% +1. Barack Obama will go to the red states where the Clinons won’t compete and turn them all blue.”

  30. Since tomorrow is supposed to be a big day for Mr. Stinky, lets all wear orange to show that we will not go along with the hand picked nominee.

    tinyurl.com/6ozrob

  31. Rumors swirling on Republican blogs, I hear, that there are a lot of indications that Johnny Mac is picking Sarah Palin.

Take it FWIW. I have no clue.

  32. “And to any Nader voter that I ever insulted throughout the years, I am truly sorry. I now know how you feel.”

SM, I know exactly how you feel!

  33. grayslady, I’m with you, I feel the complete frustration.

I know were my vote will go… and, as much as I fought against it, I sent ‘small change’ to McCain today… his small change will be more than the uncertain change of Obama and the plastics.

I also bought a yard sign and bumper sticker for only $7.00! What a bargain!

  34. We need to push back. I own my vote and it ain’t going to Obama. I am so disgusted I am not going to vote for any dem that supported him.

Nader had said there was no difference between the parties. I spoke against Nader for these last years. But, man-o-man did it come back to bite.

I’m sick of the do nothing dems.

Sorry, I’m ranting. But, I feel betrayed.

  35. Then we better work on getting folks to watch those polling places, WigWag.

  36. Looks like PUMAs being discussed in a negative light on a NJ political web site. http://www.bluejersey.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=8829 All NJ folks may want to take a look. I don’t know, maybe it’s me, but I think they underestimate our numbers.

  37. PugetSound–I was just thinking the same thing!! I’ve got a super bright orange shirt that I’m going to wear tomorrow. I’ll keep any eye out for anyone else who’s going orange. Super idea!

  38. Sarah Palin is the one term Governor of Alaska, first elected in 2006. Prior to her election as governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla…She has served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska’s most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska’s communities.”

This is to thin a resume for a VEEP. What is happening to this country.

  39. So much for the 57-state strategy.

  40. That sarcasm just makes us more formidable. How stupid can these people be?

Uh, never mind. No need to answer.

  41. WTF? 18 state strategy? I am laughing my ass off right now. Does Obama and his campaign STILL think they can use this type of “strategy” to win? Is Obama’s head so far in his ass that he still hasn’t face the reality of his campaign at this point? Do the Democrats still believe that there is no way they can lose after 8 years of Bush? Someone needs to tell Plouffe and Axelrod to take a look at the latest polls and then remind them that Hillary is no longer in the race to beat up and blame for everything. Fools.

  42. I live in OH and emailed Sec. Brunner 2 weeks ago re: this new law. Guess what? No response..
    My letter:

    Sec. Brunner,

It is with utter astonishment that I write to you today. I just read an article that said you can now register to vote and vote immediately afterward in Ohio.
To me this seems like utter nonsense. When I voted for you, I expected the return of dignity and accountability to the office of Secretary of State. Blackwell did his best to make Ohioans look complicit in voting irregularities and fraud. This kind of instant gratification will be wrought with problems and gives the impression that we have learned absolutely nothing since 2004. Even if this goes off without a hitch, if it is close here in November, all eyes will be on this new voting method.

I am stunned and hope you will reconsider this.

    Sincerely,

  43. meileen, yep!

  44. Sorry, that response was for the article shugh8 linked to.

  45. Ohio is NOT changing registration requirements. That is bull. The republican general assembly would need to change the law which is quite clear. Photo ID and 30 day registration.

  46. I hate myself for being a Democrat.

AT&T Throws ‘Exclusive Party’ For Blue Dog Democrats Who Helped Pass Retroactive Immunity

Anybody seriously thinks we’re no corporate whores like Republicans?

  47. I just said this over at NoQuarter and I’ll post it here in regards to McCain picking a female running mate:

If McCain chooses a woman as his running mate Obama will not only lose but he will lose by a LANDSLIDE. Clintonistas will flock to McCain. Hell, I know a male Hillary supporter who said that he would vote for McCain if he chose a woman and didn’t treat her like sh*t the way the Democratic Party treated Hillary.

I’m kinda hoping McCain’s VP pick is a woman because it would bring a ton more excitement to the election and the Obamabots will go bat sh*t crazy figuring out what to do next.

  48. RD,

I couldn’t get on the blogtalk radio show after about 10 minutes of the show. Did you do the whole two hours? If so, when will the archived version be available?

  49. I ran across some video of Obama’s Temple to himself. Sorry if someone else has posted this. Beware, this came from a right-wing site (sorry)

    http://hotair.com/archives/2008/08/27/video-behind-the-scenes-at-invesco-and-the-regal-stage/

My computer sound card is dead so I didn’t have to listen to the dude filming it. The Temple footage starts at 4:00 into it.

  50. WMCB–I just checked out Sarah Palin’s bio. Oh my–she’d be an ace-in-the-hole on several key issues. Energy, conservation, public services, you name it. He could pick her and blow the Dems out of the water.

  51. ben I was just going by the content of this article that I read here:

    http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gmJpgsrR27lwSUQ24_WSSrU0W-JwD92H8JE06

  52. Ben, I found this link that talks about the proposed changes.

    http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gmJpgsrR27lwSUQ24_WSSrU0W-JwD92H8JE06

But I swear I read somewhere today that it was approved. Can’t link to that-sorry.

  53. Nothing Plouffe or Axelrod do has anything to do with democracy, voter participation or anything enhancing to our country or our electorate. They have approached this election like a couple of cutthroat poker players figuring out how to fleece a game just one time, before they get out of town. The America they leave behind will be one more racially divided than before, infinitely more cynical (why vote at all if the delegates or the DNC just gives your votes to the other person?), more dumbed down than ever. Those are not this duo’s concerns; they are going to deliver a White House to Obama and then ride the talk show circuit to riches; the Atwater and Rove of their glorious new time.

Win those eighteen states, ignore everyone else, tailor your completely malleable message to just those voters, for just this time. “Be a Democrat for a day,” that was useful while it lasted too; as was “The Clintons are racists, doing the ole okey-doke” a big hit in the AA-dominated South. So you do some regression analyses, figure out what the voters of Ohio or Pennsylvania might want this holiday season, and then promise t to them. Ride the Clintons like horses until it’s over and you can send them to the glue factory. And when your fraud of a candidate finally gets to the throne, and when everyone begins to realize that our country is utterly rudderless and foundering, you can just shrug your shoulders, secure in the knowledge that this part wasn’t your responsibility.

  54. BB: The system went down at blogtalkradio and when I contacted the administrators they told me it wasn’t coming up and that we should reschedule the segment.

  55. wandered over to the democratsformccain website, and noticed they several t-shirts, including one that says McCain/Powell 08. What the heck does this mean? Colin Powell? Is this just an option, what?

  56. “50% of the Democratic party – toilet paper.

32 out 50 states for the electoral vote – more toilet paper.

No wonder they HAVE to cheat to win an election.”

The Democrats are NOT the ones who cheated. The GOP and media cheated during the primaries to get this dirtbag who will lose all fifty states and help the Republicans. Only after massive propaganda and GOP manipulation did the DNC join the SS Obama.

    Gee, people, wake up.

  57. If John McCain picks Sarah Palin, I will vote for him.

It would be a smart, gutsy move and would tell me a great deal about his character, his confidence in women, his awareness of our value as a voting bloc, and his willingness to go where the so-called “change candidate” refused to go.

Obama’s VP pick, let us all remember, reflected on his character in the following ways:

He was not interested in what was best for his country.

He was not interested in what was best for his party.

He was determined not to be upstaged, rather than determined to set the stage for ALL Americans’ hopes and success.

He is not, in fact, about either change or hope.

After beating Hillary over the head with her Iraq war vote, he had no problem choosing Biden, who voted exactly the same way.

He cares nothing about the cause and progress of women, our value as a voting bloc, or our aspirations; he is not even smart enough, as McCain may be, to use us and our considerable leverage.

Go for it, John McCain. We’re watching.

    PUMA
    NObama
    NOvember

  58. Is anyone watching paint dry, sorry, I mean watching Biden speak?

Yeah, this guy is better than Hillary

    Geez

  59. So thankful my friend called when she did. I thought The Big Dawg’s address wasn’t until 9 central (ala Hill’s). But it obviously aired a bit earlier, because by the time I’d hung up and headed to watch it was done. Though primetime networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) aired the speech around at that time as an edited piece (while their talkingheads yapped and commented on various parts of it. After a few minutes of them splicing back and forth I just switched it off altogether. Don’t think I missed anything monumental as say, Bill telling the DNC and BO camp where to go and how to get there. Now THAT would’ve made the rest of this election, for me. LOL!

  60. I hope you’re right Ben. I can’t find whatever it was I THOUGHT I read.

I guess I better stop putting that vodka in my morning coffee.

  61. Biden just made a huge mistake and said,

That is what will happen if John McCain is elected President of the United States.

    What a doofis!

  62. Palin’s a go with me. Know she’s pro-life or whatever, but for all I care, ObamaGirl can quit prancing around, get dressed, and do some hard thinking if she’s so friggin concerned. I know I’m not.

  63. Edwardian: You didn’t miss much.

  64. Ohio has the photo ID law. Also I just checked the SOS website. October 6 is the deadline to register to vote. Early voting begins September 30. There’s been some grumblings about out of state student voters and when they can register or how long they have to live here. But that’s about it.

  65. Not my poem this time– modified Albert Gamse’s words from a well known song. But I think it’s justified if Obama accepted the nomination knowing what happened in those caucuses…

Hail to the Thief we have chosen for the nation
Hail to the Thief! We salute him, one and all.
Hail to the Thief, as we pledge cooperation
In proud fulfillment of a great, noble call…

  66. MyIQ — that was a funny edit that you did. Let me know if you want to do another one. We’ve got buckets of them…

  67. William, on August 27th, 2008 at 10:36 pm Said:

Well said, William. I agree that the Obama campaign has played this entire election like a poker game, deceiving people with Clinton smears and caucus fraud. Obama could give a sh*t with his constituents or democracy.

parentofed: Powell? I didn’t even see that one coming but like I said, a woman or a minority running with McCain is a definite game changer. McCain would outright win the election in my opinion. The Clintonistas would like to vote for a woman, even a Republican, over Obama. And if it is a minority, they won’t have to feel guilty or worry about being labeled as racists for not voting for Obama.

  68. WigWag – YOU ARE KIDDING ME!!!

Great, the Democrats have not one, but TWO GE candidates that are in desperate need of Adderall.

  69. William, on August 27th, 2008 at 10:36 pm Said:

  70. susannunes – Um, the DNC selected Obama to run for President in 2004. Why else did he give that keynote speech?

I’d love to blame the Republicans too, but the DNC joined them in their corruption.

    Obama is TOAST.

  71. I think it will be Ridge or Romney.

They will solidify the states he needs.

Remember, we still have the Ayers story coming out.
This is real. Now will the Media do anything with it.

    PUMA HAKA 👿

  72. McCain is ahead of Obama and/or tied depending on the polls that’s because of PUMA’s. You control this election even if you don’t control the democratic corrupt election process. You’ve keep Obama from that bonce 27% of PUMA’s voting McCain and 11% was undecided well noone should be undecided now, time to get off the fence

  73. Forget 50 states, forget 18 states. It will come down to just three states. Just like it has in the past few tight elections: PA, FL, OH. Whoever wins 2 of the 3 will win.

If I had to bet, Obama will win Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia vote will be too large for any other outcome.

    McCain will win Florida.

If I had to bet the house, I would bet that whoever wins Ohio is the new President.

  74. John in CA, LOL!!!

  75. Riverdaughter.

I like the new banner. It fits the situation perfectly.

    xxoo

  76. And for any of you who have never heard about Sarah Palin in action, apparently she is a dynamo, tough and smart.

I support the aspirations of women in America who dare to aspire to leadership roles and are ready to take on the the sh*t, regardless of party, that will be thrown at them simply for being women.

  77. With the early voting, I guess there can be some manipulation with that. However, early voting takes place at one location in each county not in individual precincts. So it can be monitored.

  78. ObamaCo only cares about 18 states? I had no idea there were 32 Appalachian states. Of course, I’m a girl, and not as proficient with math as 57-state Oblah.

It’s the uterus, I think. It sucks blood from the brain cells, causing me to be emotional and a sore loser.

  79. WigWag – one of those states is US!!

    FL will go McCain

    OH – HARD Leaning McCain

    PA, toss-up

  80. parentofed, I like Palin, and hope it’s her. She’s thin on experience, but they couldn’t really attack her on THAT one, now could they? And word is that she is VERY smart, exceedingly witty, a worker, a get-things-done person. She has done well at whatever she put her hand to. Her hubby is a neurologist, I think.

I dug up a bunch of stuff on her last week – old articles and such, when her name got floated and I didn’t know who she was.

  81. Well I for one don’t want this Affirmitive Action Democratic Nominee as my Leader of the Free World – and it seems to me if he does manage to get elected, the lead up primaries to the next Election will be all bought and sold (one way or another) by his Chicago machine from there on! Hillary’s only road to the WH will be via McCain, IMHO!

  82. The illusion of Obama is Democrat and we must support him, what make Obama different?. He voted for FISA, he agreed with the republican on abortion and mental illness, he agree on the DC gun ban ruling, he funded the war, he flip flopped on every policy he stood on, Campaign finance, NAFTA, Iraq, Cuba, Immigration…what makes him different?

  83. RD I posted a comment with a link to video footage of Obama’s Temple to Himself. Comment went “poof!” What gives?

    Link: http://hotair.com/archives/2008/08/27/video-behind-the-scenes-at-invesco-and-the-regal-stage/

  84. Palin’s husband is a fisherman. Meg Whitman’s husband is a neurosurgeon.

  85. Charles,

You’ve documented some of the cat fights happening on MessNBC. Here is more:

    MSNBC prez defends convention team

That insane clown Olbermann has pretty much ruined that pathetic excuse of a news channel. Not to say the others are less vile.

  86. Unfortunately, I live in Ohio and will be at the microcosm of this madness yet again.

  87. I don’t trust the Obama campaign and the Chicago machine…there’s going to be fake voters just like there were fake contributors.

  88. Colin Powell & McCain will be UNBEATABLE.

  89. I actually think that Romney would not help McCain as much as someone completely unexpected who is either a woman or a minority. It would give his campaign the extra jolt needed to completely overcome Obama after this week.

  90. Thanks for the info ben.

That noise you hear is me sighing in relief. Sorry if I upset anyone with effed up info. I meant no harm, and will try to verify with links in the future.

  91. KB:

My theory is that deleting trolls just encourages them to drop turds faster.

Editing makes them look stupid in front of their friends (instead of just looking stupid in front of us)

Plus, since I’m guessing they get paid per comment, deleting comments means Uh-bama doesn’t have to pay them.

As liberals, we should be pro-labor, not pro-owner

  92. DF: I assume the t-shirt meant Colin Powell, but why would McCain go with a military guy that the Repubs no longer love, even if he is black?

I’ll go back for another visit.

  93. CORRECTION:

Colin Powell & McCain will be UNBEATABLE

BUT IF HILLARY was running, they would be TOAST

  94. parentofed – LOL!

You know what makes you REAALLLLY smart?

    A penis!!

Where do I get me one of those?

    😉

  95. Poor Ben!

You need to move to NY. We always go blue…although this year, maybe not!!!

    ROOOOOOAAAAARRRRR!

  96. Meileen there is reason to worry in Ohio. We replaced a corrupt Republican secretary of state with a corrupt democratic one in Jennifer Brunner. She is hyper partisan and will manipulate every rule in the book to benefit a democrat. Cuyahoga and Summit counties, large and urban, have optical scan voting. So there is a paper trail.

  97. Powell was one of the few Republicans I would consider voting for.

He was one, until he helped sell the Iraq war.

Permanent DQ, just like you-know-who playing the race card.

There are some things, you don’t get a second chance.

  98. madamab – You can order them online! They have them in all colors and speeds….uh, never mind.

  99. Thanks, ben. That’s what I get for researching Republican women I never heard of – the husbands and bios mixed up.

  100. Look, I don’t dislike Biden. I think he’s a good guy. But his speech is the worst speech of the convention. The guy selling the peanuts at the concession stand could give a better speech!

  101. Here’s what yu need to pay attention to, everytime Obama faces tanking poll numbers the Obama campaign pays Quinnipiac to put out favorable poll numbers. Quinnipiac is not an accurate poll it’s jut an Obama poll used to hide the real numbers. When that Larry Sinclir guy had he press confernce, Obama paid Quinnipiac to hold a press conference to say he had this large lead to distract Sinclair. So don’t believe the numbers from Quinnipiac, McCain is must closer in PA and he has a good chance of winning it.

  102. I haven’t read all the comments. has anyone pointed out that Biden is wearing the unity tie?

  103. MyIQ,

I like the editing as long as we can keep up. Can we share the load?

  104. I think so too, sm77. Unbeatable.

  105. There’s a huge urban campus in Akron, Ohio, where I live. They just started back to school. It just doesn’t seem like an Obama hot bed to me.

  106. Madamab: I have no idea where to find one.

As a woman, I can’t read maps, and I don’t know how to even turn on that high-techie PSG, GSP, oh, whatever you call that cute little thingie. [no, not the penis]

  107. Biden was the second best choice that BO could have made after Hillary. And he’s right about McCain.

John McCain is completely deluded. I’m so sick of his attempts to recruit Hillary supporters. Like we don’t care about his opposition to universal healthcare, his desire to overturn Roe, and his desire to continue the Iraq War. What a jerk.

  108. oops sorry my keys are sticking , well clean them now

  109. Ben – good! here in FL (thanks to that VOTE that sped up our primary date) we also have them. We had a local election on Tuesday and I tried it for the first time – awesome. Not like the ATM Diebolds.

  110. kiki,

I’m watching a tape of Big Brother. Since I’m not a Democrat, I don’t have to watch them anymore.

    Unless it’s for a laugh.

  111. A new McCain slogan?:

“Ladies, if you are forced to vote for a penis, at least vote for the one that has more experience.”

  112. These news commentators have no respect for the intelligence and memory of their viewers. Their condescending analysis is offensive.

Seeing the Clintons I am not persuaded to get on the love train but I am reminded of how the Obamabots called Bill a racist, how Obama told Hillary she was “nice enough” and gave her the finger, and how he thumbed his nose at her supporters by not including her in his VP list after lying for weeks that she was. A speech will not make up for Obama’s character deficit, his history with Wright, Pfleger, and Ayers. It will not explain why he chose a 35 year Washington politician after attacking Hillary for being a Washington insider. It does not explain why he flip-flopped on NAFTA, FISA, and campaign finance. It does not make up for his lack of experience, knowledge, and accomplishments. It does not change the fact that today’s roll call was a farce that offended many.

  113. Obama just came out. He;s getting his cheers.

    Pass the barf bags again!

  114. Project Runway was good tonight as always.

  115. According to Hillbuzz, who is Chicago-based, there were lots of Illinois plates in Iowa (across the border) on the night of the caucuses

  116. Whoa, where the heck did he come from. Spare us for another day at least.

  117. KB and Myiq – Sigh. There is a troll infestation at my old post from this morning. They are such *ssh*le cowardly sh*theads.

I’m going to bed. Do you feel creative?

    SM and PofE – LOL!

  118. Obama

“I think the convention has gone well so far what do you think”

  119. ben: my OH relatives are highly disappointed in Jennifer Brunner. Well, what they said was, “Oh, they’re all a bunch of crooks, no matter what party.”

It seemed naive at the time, but now…

  120. ben, if there is a paper trail in those counties, and they consist of urban areas, shouldn’t we feel better?

  121. KB:

I can only edit my own posts

  122. Obama compliments Bill and Hillary.

Wasn’t he calling them racists just a few months ago!

  123. I am SO happy that I don’t have to watch that convention any more!

  124. “Ladies, if you are forced to vote for a penis, at least vote for the one that has more experience.”

Oh ewwwwwww! I don’t want to think of either one of their penii!!! Oba-Moi and McCain are not exactly teh sexxxy. 😉

    Night everyone!

  125. John McCain is completely deluded. I’m so sick of his attempts to recruit Hillary supporters. Like we don’t care about his opposition to universal healthcare, his desire to overturn Roe, and his desire to continue the Iraq War. What a jerk.

You just described Obama as well.

This is why I’m not stirred to vote for him – voter fraud is my #1 reason – but he doesn’t espouse any of these important Democratic issues. He has no solid record on ANYTHING.

  126. This sounds strange, but I am not sure if I want McCain to pick a woman.

  127. Glad to know the show was good tonight.

“One day yaw in, and tha next day yaw out.”

Too bad we can’t make that happen with a certain candidate.

  128. So what do people think of Bill Clinton’s all out support for B.O.? Authentic?

  129. Barry Dunham just popped his head in to say a few words after Biden finished. Weird.

  130. Palin is a very attractive candidate – she took on the oil industry and 3 corrupt Republican politicians and won. True, not a ton of experience but she’s already accomplished more than “the 1”.

  131. In Ohio, after the 2004 election, some ballots were destroyed in violation of state law. The just happened to be from the area that mysteriously gave G-Dub more votes than the exit-polls showed he would get.

Those “more votes” were the winning margin

Paper trails are only worth the paper their printed on.

  132. Guess someone told BO to make an early appearance to revive the tepid/waning interest and sinking viewership numbers. That and it’s a way to change tommorow’s headline from being all about the Big Dawg’s speech or his own Greek coliseum.

  133. Meileen

I think voter fraud is somewhat overrated. Personally, I’ve never seen it happen. They have poll watchers here. Where it gets gamey is in the attempts to keep polls open longer.

  134. cbn, is it because, like me, you always hoped “our” party would do it first?

But you’ve seen how that turns out. You’ve seen, today, and for months, how Hillary was treated by her own party.

  135. cbn, personally it would be sad for me – because she won’t be Hillary. But politically, it would be a smart move.

Everyone is not me. And I could say “more power to her” whoever she was.

An even smarter move for McCain would be a really great Hispanic, male or female.

  136. “I said this before but he is a good political Rottwelier. The risk for Obama is that sometimes attack dogs foam at the mouth.”

You don’t think he comes across a little goofy?

  137. Good mnight MadamaB!

I’m heading out too. I need some rest.

PUMAs, I salute you! Wonderful work! It’s not over though.

  138. The presidential race is over for me, I turned off the TV when Hillary made her acclamation.

I will never watch any cable or network news stations ever again, they were in the tank for Soetoro from day one. We’ve been robbed, our democracy is no more, shut off the lights when you leave.

  139. I’m off too.

    Night all. Sweet dreams.

  140. I agree, Willow. Palin is so much more qualified to be POTUS than Obama it is nearly laughable. But then, so many women (and men) are.

  141. Hayshepsut, I think Bill went put of his way to highlight EVERY FLAW of Obama’s, and did it right under their noses. See my comments upthread. It was genius.

  142. Sorry folks. Just checked back in and saw you were talking about Sarah Palin as a VP pick for McCain. She is my govenor and I am not all that impressed. Yes, she has had the guts to stand up to the old guard corrupt Republican party here, but that isn’t too hard when you consider Ted Stevens, Don Young and Exxon. People are sick of the foul stench from the Republicans and she got in on that and her looks. She is imbrolled in a controversy because of firing a well liked state employee that didn’t do her family’s bidding and fire her ex-brother-in-law. She is very inexperienced. The thought of her as a VP scares me more than Obama and that is saying something. How about someone like Carly Fiona?

  143. night all-

    creator father mother god/des

bless us al and grid our loins tonight for we have a long road ahead but at least we are not alone and we know in our hearts Hillary Bill and Chelsea are with us.

Keep us safe and protect our commaders and leaders in denver bring them home safely.

You have shown that we must want freedom and be willing to fight for it show us the way we are ready and longing for our liberty revolution.

    Amen

tommorow I hope it rains in denver a might flood at invesco field

    fuzzybeargville

  144. I dont think it will be Palin. Fiorina is very well spoken.

  145. WMCB: can you think of a great female Hispanic for McCain? That would be dynamite, I agree.

As for sexiness, Charles, I don’t know why, I’ve always found Obama so sexless. Not exactly unattractive, just a listless chemistry. Just me, maybe. Takes all kinds for all kinds of people.

  146. I really like Carly Fiorina. But she is pro choice so she will never be selected.

By the way, Carly Fiorina is a much better communicator than Meg Whitman.

E-bay may be more successful that H-P, but all the success H-P had after Fiorina was fired was because of decisions she made while she was there.

  147. Anee, on August 27th, 2008 at 11:03 pm Said:

Anee, I share your sentiments. Reminds me of the complicitness in Dubya’s Iraqi invasion. Duplicitous to the core.

  148. waiting, feel free to criticize women based on their record, but not on their looks, or to suggest that that is how those of us who are successful “get in.” We’ve had enough sexism this year to last us a lifetime. Thank you.

  149. KB:

I would be more than happy to help. Ask RD about upgrading my privileges. 😉

I’m West Coast so I’m often here later than anyone else (when the trolls are busy)

  150. I have long thought McCain’s choice would be Ridge, and he could do worse. No Huckabee for sure. The nice thing about Fiorina or Whitman is not only being a woman, but each has a strong business background. No matter what, that translates to economic savvy, and that is a winner in Nov.

The idiotic Dems handed the primary to a neophyte based on a topic that is no longer the lever issue.

  151. POE, he’s like a used car salesman. As much as he reminds me of Bush, he also reminds me of Romney, the smarmy game show host.

  152. Someone sent me this explosive youtube video of BO making fun of the bible.

    Check it out!

  153. Seriously:

Ridge or Huckabee? I can see how you might think that of either.

  154. I was not trying to be sexist. I was stating a fact. When a good deal of the campaign is discussion on how easy a candidate is on the eyes, then that is an attribute she had that helped her win. I have experienced sexism on a level few have known and am very aware of what it is. I came to Hillary in part because of the sexism I saw in this campaign. Obama’s “looks” are part of his appeal to a certain segment. That is just the way it is.

  155. Magdalena: yes, something like that. I just hate to see someone else get the chance the Hillary did not….and really it would be because of Hillary’s hard work that any woman is on anyone’s ticket.

I also don’t really think he needs a woman to defeat Obama.

  156. How about Kay Bailey Hutchinson? More experienced than Palin. I think Hutchinson is pro-choice.

  157. kay is too old. they would look like an old married couple.

  158. ginainkc: rumor is she’s being vetted. I’ve had some gripes over the years, but I think that is a winning ticket in 2008

  159. trying to catch up with posts and only caught a little of interview on cnn regarding states BO campaign is targetting. ?????? which of the caucus states that he gamed during primaries are part of his GE strategy—-just wondering since they gave him the nom

  160. Kay Bailey Hutchinson….ugh!

  161. waiting, as a female who has been so-called “beautiful” since I was four years old, I can attest that it hurts as much as it helps, and that “good-looking” cuts differenly for women than it does for men. A man’s looks enhance his perceived power in a fairly gender-neutral way; a woman’s looks are always a referent to her femaleness, and a reminder of her status as an Other. That’s the way it is.

  162. Also, heard McCain is considering
Kay Bailey Hutchsion for VP, she is a
    longstanding Texas Senator

here’s also is the the link to her full bio:
    http://hutchison.senate.gov/bio.html

    Some basic info:
In 1993, Texans elected Kay Bailey Hutchison to the United States Senate in a special election, making her the first — and, to date, the only — woman elected to represent the state in the Senate. One year later, she was re-elected to a full six-year term. And in 2000, she received more votes for her re-election to a second full term than any other statewide candidate had ever received. In 2006, she was again re-elected by an overwhelming margin. She serves in the Senate leadership, having been elected by her colleagues to be chairman of the Republican Policy Committee in the 110th Congress, making her the fourth-highest ranking Republican senator and the highest ranking Republican woman. Sen. Hutchison also serves on the Republican National Hispanic Assembly (RNHA) National Advisory Committee.

With a good woman on the ticket, McCain would really kick a**!!!
    Hillary and PUMAs RULE!!!

  163. Well, look at it this way:

Obama supporters got what they deserved!

    1969 Wellesley Rah!
    1969 Wellesley!
    One more year!
    Still no cheer!
    1969 Wellesley

  164. ” I think Hutchinson is pro-choice.”

    She’s not.

  165. “.and really it would be because of Hillary’s hard work that any woman is on anyone’s ticket.”

whoops, I guess that came out wrong. I just meant Hillary worked so hard…

  166. “and really it would be because of Hillary’s hard work that any woman is on anyone’s ticket.”

    Very true, cbn.

  167. did anyone look athe video of o dissing the bible? That ought to lose him half the votes in america.

  168. Not sure about her stand on Choice…it would help is she was..

  169. phala: good question. hmmm, obviously PA, FL, OH play; would guess NY, VA, CA, TX, CO

Need to check. I just know that we’ll be spared the presence of His Majesty, except for fundraisers with those acceptable non-racists, non-hillbilly, non-rural, non-dumb, non-senior Kentuckians. Ah, the few, the proud, the KY Obots!

  170. Not heard her name, if McCain did that would be a suprise one…

  171. I’m not promoting her, but KBH is too old?? Isn’t she the same age as our Hillary?

  172. WigWag,

Just for the record, ebay is not more successful that HP, not even close. I think ebay’s total sales are less than HP’s net profit.

  173. Oh, man, please let it be Kay bailey. Our Senators won’t be able to contain themselves and they’ll make disgusting fools of themselves once again.

  174. OMG. Everyone hates Elizabeth Dole. That might make me stay home and not vote.

  175. At the top of the list of viable female vice presidential picks for Mr. McCain is Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett Packard and one of Mr. McCain’s leading economic advisers. Mrs. Fiorina, 53, was named by Forbes magazine, in 1998, as the most powerful woman in business. Mrs. Fiorina is articulate, forceful and intelligent. In an Aug. 26 appearance on Fox News’ “On The Record With Greta Van Susteren,” for example, she was formidable in explaining that women care most about economic issues, are opening small businesses at a rate of 2-to-1 in contrast to their male counterparts and are drawn to a low-tax, free-market agenda. As a strong, capable woman with executive experience, she can appeal to Clinton supporters. And as a pro-lifer she will galvanize the evangelical base of the party.

The downside of selecting Mrs. Fiorina is that she is still relatively unknown. Furthermore, she commanded a huge salary as CEO and could be painted as out-of-touch with ordinary Americans. Her 2005 departure from HP was turbulent. She also recently sparked a firestorm with her comments that insurers cover Viagra but not birth control.

  176. I’m sending McCain an email, asking him to consider Olympia Snow, a moderate, or Michael Bloomberg, a moderate for VP. (Besides the fact that they are Republicans, that is.) Either one works for me.

Might as well get started early on McCain’s campaign.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympia_Snowe#Political_views

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bloomberg#Political_positions

  177. Did anyone check out this video???

    Please

  178. Dole is a little less kick-assy . Don’t think the Repubs are too excited with her right now, avg results in NC, as I recall

  179. Magdalena: Thanks, I thought I might have said something wrong there. 🙂

  180. MABlue, yeah but look at the multiple on E-BAY’s stock versus HP’s. And look at the historic performance of both stocks.

  181. Bloomberg or snow equals landslide win for Mcin

  182. SOD, Dole is in a heated race in NC where they are stressing that she is rated 93 out of 100 in effectiveness as a Senator–not a very good starting point. (93 could be 92 or 94 not sure of exact number)

  183. Wow, hadn’t though about Snow.

    Would the wingnuts accept her?

  184. No, sorry, POE, I meant Obama is like a used car salesman (you said you weren’t seeing the sexy)

  185. Magdalena, I am sorry you have taken offence. I too a have been held up since very young as the beautiful one. I understand all that. I see what Palin has been and done. I see her more like Obama than any of the other candidates. She did one thing and that propelled her to major attention. She is probably stronger in her principals than Obama. Like Obama, she needs to be seasoned. Then she won’t have people using her looks as a reason to vote for her. And there isn’t a wolf she wouldn’t like to eliminate.

Can we all get along now?

  186. Carly Fiorina would be fantastic….questions I heard like you mention Ben is the unknown factor…

Well it was McCain’s booboo I think at first ..on Viagro (no pun intended) but of couse the Insurers are always trying to limit coverage (on everything).

Carly reminded me of Hillary in how she handled the HP Thugs (she had a Howard Dean type to deal with).

  187. Liddy Dole? No way. After Bob cried like a baby at Nixon’s funeral, there’s no way I could do it. She is the antithesis of feminist. Gah! Besides, she’s done the facelift thing so much I can hardly recognize her anymore. UGGH!

  188. Seriously: “..our Senators..” You mean the Dem Senators?

Love Olympia Snow. How old is she? I couldn’t care, but I think the pairing will appear more dynamic with one of the candidates a lttle younger.

Hutchinson is outta the ball-park, I think

  189. As a Texas voter, I pray he doesn’t pick Kay Bailey. Even my staunchly Republican friends can’t stand her. Besides, she wants to be Governor.

  190. Snow is my favorite among the Repub women. I have great respect for her. But she opposed the war, so it might not work as a choice for McCain.

Then again, look at Bambi and Biden. It’s not like they could attack on that discrepancy.

  191. Cindy, I am told that Kay Bailey and McCain DO NOT LIKE each other. At all.

  192. OK. I get it. No one wants to look at the video.
Maybe you have already seen it….maybe it’s not such a big deal.

    I’m saying goodnight.

  193. One last time: There will NOT be a pro choicer on the Rep ticket. The base had said NO and Republicans listen to their base, unlike Democrats.

  194. Just released – the 18 states:

    2. suspended animation

    16. …your name for the record

  195. Do you ever get the feeling that the next few months will feel as tense as a really great Hitchcock movie? Here’s one of my favorites. They tried to poison Ingrid but she escaped. Hillary just escaped too.

Good night and sweet dreams from NYC.

  196. McCain/Snow will never happen. McCain is even with Obama in the polls because he is winning a higher percentage of Republicans than Obama is winning of Democrats. While there are more Democrats than Republicans (thanks to Bush) the greater loyalty of Republicans right now is what is keeping McCain close. If McCain picks a pro-choice, relatively liberal Senator like Snow, his base will be infuriated and his polls will deteriorate. He can’t afford this a mere 70 days from the election.

Actually, I think McCain/Snow could win because PUMAs (who really knows how many of us there are) and Reagan Democrats might find that ticket very attractive.

But the chance it will happen is zero.

  197. SOD: really? I like McCain with a business woman. He’s got major creds on his own for foreign policy, but yeah, I see what you mean about a CEO with a huge parachute. But, she’s honest, no scandals about that, she’s articulate, she talks tough enough.
What we need to think about is 1] complement McCain 2] McCain’s age and 3] debates & match-up with Blowin’ Joe

  198. waiting,”people” can do what they want to do.

We women should know better, and not give sexism a helping hand by echoing its reference points for the reasons I stated above. That is my primary point.

Every time we say a woman got in on her looks, it resonates within the culture in a very particular, and detrimental, way.

Yes, we can all get along now. Actually, I’m not pissed in the least. This year simply has made me extremely vigilant, and desirous of opening up these kinds of conversations, which are generally are not had any more–because we’re all supposedly so post-gender, so post-feminist, so equal now.

    NOsexism
    NObama
    NOvember

  199. Seriously: Obama as the used-car salesman? hahaha, and a salesman lives or dies on his charm. With me as a client…… I find him not only sexless, but devoid of charm. I just don’t see it. I listened to him on Letterman, debates, etc, and he just seemed like a boring punk. Even Dave was propping him up in the conversation

  200. Good Point State of D….

they are hammering McCain on the being from “CountryClub” Party thing…CEO (like Carly F.) might reinforce that ….there is the woman who founded E-Bay (sorry hername excapes me-it’s late).

E-bay has a little different flavor….helps the little guy.

He mentioned her at the SaddleBack debate as someone he admirers…her name has come up on some lists.

  201. hey, the post on carly was not mine but from the Washington Times of all things. I listen to her speak on fox yesterday. she’s so bright. she started out as a Kelly Girl. Watch Obama try to attack her for being successful businesswoman.

  202. Magdalena: well said

  203. meg whitman is VERY blue blood east coast. Carly has a different edge.

  204. I’n thinking Pawlenty. He was a headliner at a republican dinner the other night in Akron, Ohio, where I live. He was quite good. He has humble beginnings and an attractive family. But Fiorina would really be able to address the economy.

  205. What Magdalena said…I too have become hyper-vigilant and will remain so. Unfortunately, it’s like buying a lock for the barn door after the horse thieves have gotten away. Sexism, misogyny, and corruption is still alive and well here in 2008.

  206. Huh?

  207. I love that we’re all talking about McCain’s VP pick now, and could give a sh*t about Biden.

    The Democratic Party so over.

And the candidate hasn’t even strutted in front of his temple yet.

  208. Well, the Republicans don’t punish successful people, and she’s worked for her success. Charles, I agree he can’t alienate the Repub base too much, they’re disenchanted with Bush, and they don’t really trust McCain with his maverick rep, and someone who traditionally hasn’t wooed them.

Many/most of us could support her without much problem, so I still like Carly. Would her being a woman alienate very much of Repub base?

  209. Obamamandius–a kuanonym of Shelley 50 years from now…

“I met a college kid from Nintendo land
Who said, “three vast and mindless words I’ve known
Stand in the desert.. near them on the sand
Half sunk a shattered logo lies, whose sun
And vapid rainbow whine of cold command
Tell that its designer well those mantras read
Which yet survive, stamped on all lifeless things
The hand that cartooned them and the minds it fed
And on the pedastal these words appear
My name is Obamamandius, Suit of suits
Look on my lack of works, ye Mighty and despair
Nothing in me is real. Round the decay
Of my colossal logo, empty of man
The lone and level nothingness of, “Yes,we can.”

  210. I heard Mark Halperin say on Charlie Rose tonight that he’s hearing McCain’s pick is Lieberman. McCain could pick Paris Hilton and I wouldn’t be surprised- it’s just been that crazy of a year.

  211. Angry Artist,

I tried to watch the video, but it wouldn’t play for me. It kept jumping back and playing the first part over and over.

  212. WigWag,

Mel Martinez is really not that popular, and never really was. If McCain choses someone from FL it could be only the gov.

  213. I’ve heard that rumor about Lieberman; that would not be my first or even second choice.

  214. Lieberman would be dumb dumb dumb.

Democrats hate Lieberman because he is a traitor
Republicans will never tolerate a social liberal like Lieberman.

He would be the worst choice of all!

  215. This is an odd year and the demographics are fluid. I dont see how Lieberman does anything for him. Halperin is an ASS. And you can guarantee the Rs arent going to leak that info to HIM>

  216. *head desk* Oh god, could McCain BE that stupid? Lieberman is the only pick that might win it for Obama.

  217. I want Carly. When I heard her speak she really connected. Suburban women (they decide the election) will love here.

  218. What about Chrisie Todd Whitman or Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins?

  219. Of course, the list of intelligent statements made by any segment of the media, including Halperin [yeah, I know he’s supposed to be smart, but Time just sucks anymore] is miniscule. Pat & Joe & Lou……a few times Hannity

  220. Lieberman is already a one-time loser. NO! Don’t pick him.

  221. flysongster *applause*

  222. McCain hasn’t done dumb so far this year. Please, don’t do Lieberman, you could always reward with another plum job.

  223. MABlue, I live in FLA so I know he’s not particularly popular. But he could move the state, maybe. And he is Latino.

Crist is enormously popular, even with Democrats. IF McCain picks Crist he wins Florida hands down. But Crist gives Obama nothing other than Florida, just like Pawlenty gives McCain nothing other than Minnesota.

I guess there is no obvious choice for McCain.

  224. I was just looking through a list of Republican women in office, and saw Susan Collins of Maine. I really noticed her during the hearings on FEMA after Katrina. It looks like she’s a pretty liberal Republican on lots of issues, so probably not someone McCain would be able to pick. Lots of bipartisan stuff already under her belt, but she’s running for re-election this year.

WMCB, I’m glad to know McCain and Kay B have no love lost.

  225. You can see the little trolls on their computers tapping away.

  226. I like Bloomberg. If the economy is a hot issue this election, he’d be a great asset.

  227. Angry Artist, I watched the video. Reinforces that Dean is way off base when he talked about the evangelical vote along with the new info that came out after B0 called people liars about his work in IL Senate regarding “live birth” bill that proved they weren’t lying.

  228. Cindy, I heard that a couple of places. It could be totally untrue! I have no inside info, just remember hearing it somewhere that they don’t click at all.

  229. Dole or Hutchinson would make McCain’s team look like a shuffleboard duo. He can’t risk that image of two doddering old folks. Snowe is considered a RINO (Republican in Name Only), but that makes her very appealing to me, and I bet a lot of PUMAs, women, and others not happy with Obaby would be pulled in that direction.

  230. seriously,

    (songster)
    bow, bow…

  231. They might as well sell peanuts in the stands. Tommorow the clown cars and dancing poodles show up.

  232. The evangelicals wouldn’t go toward Dean or Obama with a 10-foot sacred pole. Makes me wonder if Dean doesn’t plan to cheat, and try to use this evang vote as an excuse for all those dead people/ACORN votes.

  233. Bloomberg as VP, no way:

    1) Bloomberg is no longer a Republican. He abandoned the Republican Party to become an Independent.

    2) Bloomberg didn’t make $5 billion by playing second fiddle to anyone.

  234. Cindy: the approval ratings of Susan Collins in her state are through the roof, but some worry she’d be too liberal…not saying she is, I just remember reading this in a few places…

  235. I would think the leader of the free world is at least a more important position than a surgeon

  236. Deflecting criticism of Fiorina: “well, at least she held down a job for awhile.”

  237. long, hard day & the brain is worn out. Adios, folks.

  238. Charles:

I didn’t think it was going to happen with Mittens. I have from very good sources inside the Rep intelligentsia that McCain genuinely dislikes Romney.

In fact, when things look like the Rep ticket was going down, rumors in Rightwing circles has it that McCain wanted to nominate Romney as VP simple for the pleasure of drowning with him.

Now Reps and the McCain team feel very good about their chances, which the point Scarborough was trying to make to that imbecile Keith Obamaman. (I can’t believe MessNBC will let somebody who has no clue about politics run their political show)

  239. *again cheers wildly and prints out poem to show to dormmates*

  240. I know someone that went to Iowa and bragged about his caucus “fun.”

  241. Jo Chgo, on August 27th, 2008 at 11:48 pm Said:
What about Chrisie Todd Whitman or Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins?

They’re all pro choice. It ain’t gonna happen.

  242. Bob Dole is another Republican I respect.

His right arm has been an ornament since WWII.

  243. Seriously,

    Yes, thanguvurrymuch…

    Definitely, viral…….now LOL

She really does want to be the governor, and since it’s been a do-nothing job ever since my beloved Ann Richards left office, it would be like a vacation for her, with perks.

I’m going to just believe that they don’t like each other and hope that helps pass the time until he announces who it is. Haha

  245. If McCain picks a latino/latina running mate he could put California in play

  246. re: JoeB “The risk for Obama is that sometimes attack dogs foam at the mouth.”

It will be interesting to watch since Joe always has his foot in there.

  247. MABlue, if McCain picks a pro-choicer, I will be gobsmacked. I’ll bet he’s frustrated that he can’t, since some of his better prospects are.

  248. Howard Wolfson just got off a good shot at Obama.

Megan Kelly was interviewing him and asked about Obama’s lack of legislative accomplishments. Howard said that the Clintons had done their job and now it was up to Obama to make that case.

She mentioned that he doesn’t have a long list and Howard said that if America wanted a candidate with a long list of accomplishments they would have nominated Hillary! Good one Howard!

  249. Kay bailey is not old enough to look doddering, in face she’s right in the demo that votes the most, isn’t she? And everyone else is going to be looking at the fact the they’re no acting like women are contaminated, especially when all of our Senators start ridiculing her and making grossly sexist and condescending, sneering remarks about her.

  250. Bill and Hillary can just say “where’d he go???”

  251. If you can tell us, who do your sources sy are possibilities, MABlue?

  252. LOL! Howard Wolfson is the real deal.

  253. Hmmm….

  254. Someone upthread said they played Addicted to Love as Big Dawg left
the stage. Anybody remember what they played right before he came on?
(Right before Rep Meeks introduced him, that is.) It was “Chain of Fools.”
    ???

  255. I think if McCain picks a qualified woman who isn’t anti-feminist he can save his money and coast to the White House.

His biggest worry between now and November is making some big gaffe. The Presidency is his to lose as of today.

  256. Fiorina has the story. She is eminently more qualified to be president than Obama.

I was listening in my car and I heard “Don’t Stop (Thinking about tomorrow)” and started bawling like a baby so I turned it off.

  258. I feel quite certain that McCain will pick Pawlenty. It’s a good choice (as far as any Republican is a good choice) and should make a formidable ticket.

  259. Playing “Addicted to Love” as the Big Dawg left the stage was the cheapest musical shot I’ve seen since they played “Glory Days” (they pass you by) during a Giants game at Candlestick as they were replacing Greg Minton as the pitcher.

That’s the kind of low blow you expect from the other side.

    No respect.

  260. heard Mark Halperin say on Charlie Rose tonight that he’s hearing McCain’s pick is Lieberman.

I really hope that isn’t true. He’s so milquetoast, and would alienate McCain’s base. What’s the upside, the Jewish vote?

  261. I feel much better now. Sad, but better. Never Baby Bop. Always the Maverick. I’ll wait for the Queen Bee as long as I have to.

  262. What’s the story on Pawlenty?

  263. Cindy – I remember they played Don’t Stop, not sure when. But they
played Chain of Fools right before Rep Meeks came out. I remember
thinking: this is the song that will introduce Bill?

  264. It’s Pawlenty. I just have the feeling thats it.

  265. Well, at least it wasn’t Dirt Off the Shoulder. If the Obama love fest is over, it might make the news tomorrow.

  266. you know…we now have a burden lifted off of us..and that is a burden we didn’t realize how heavy it was until now. and that was the burden of waiting to see what was going to happen.

  267. How is pawlenty an untraditional or unusual pick? Because McCain keeps saying things like he is going outside the box.

  268. This will put a smile on your face.

The Obot spouse said Bill Clinton gave a good speech.

Our son asked, “Who’s Bill Clinton?”

“He was president when you were born, dear.”

“Oh, Hillary has a husband who was president?”

    🙂

That’s actually what Joe Biden said to Alberto Gonzales in his hearing for AG.

  270. I think I am going to email the McCain campaign, and tell them they need to play “Return to Sender” the night he kicks Obama’s “signed sealed delivered” ass.

  271. Yeah, if he’s going to alienate part of the base, he may as well go with someone at least someone likes. And that wouldn’t be Lieberman.

Of course, the Republican base has no more love for Obama than we do. They may also be willing to overlook some issues to keep him out of office.

  272. LOL WMCB!!!

  273. Here’s the deal:

If you’re Barack Obama and you absolutely hate the Clintons, you hang a smile on your face and show respect.

    Not “kiss ass,” show respect.

You don’t bury the hatchet in the back of the only two-term Democratic President since FDR.

  274. ugsome: that’s so cute.

  275. Yeah, but Lieberman would cause some Clinton supporters who were planning to sit i out to vote for Obama.

  276. ben carlton- It feels like the air was let out of the balloon. Even though we really knew how it was going to play out, I feel completely let down…

  277. How about Elizabeth Dole?

  278. BTW – I’m watching the CMT Music Awards.

Right now Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus are singing a duet.

  279. Voters are concerned about McCain’s age and need reassurance that whoever he picks for VP is capable of stepping up and taking the reins. Pawlenty is young (Obama’s age), bright, articulate and experienced. And he’s a white male – someone who won’t stir up controversy.

  280. Seriously – yes, absolutely. Including my hubby.

  281. Thanks to myiq2xu I’ve got a new post up!

  282. ugsome, awwww. 🙂 Your son gets the gold star for convention coverage.

  283. laney:

    That’s why I’m a pessimist.

    When we’re wrong, it’s a good thing.

So far, I’ve watched two things in this convention.

    Hillary’s speech, and Bill’s.

That’s all I intend to watch too.

  284. I really hope he doesn’t go with Lieberman. I think McCain would be more daring with the pick of Collins or Snowe or someone more liberal within the Republican party if he felt the base would stay with him just to defeat Obama if nothing else. Well, I should say I wish he would be more daring.

  285. i knew this day was coming, but it was no less stunning when it happened. the delegates caved, but what could you expect? they are elite members of the club and got there by playing the game.

i’ve been a proud dem for 30 years and voted since 18 for dems. tomorrow i change my status to declined to state. i answered hillary’s email by telling her i would see her in 4 years.

i’m positive that it will all work out. it’s now up to obama to win. no one has ever been called on to do as much as hillary has, after been slapped, vilified, and given the finger in public. what disrespect. this i can’t tolerate. you would think that the obamas would understand this.

i’m in for the long run and hope all of you are also. take be democracy for the democratic party…one vote per person and no hinky dumb stuff like caucuses. it’s bigger than hillary for me, but she sure looked darn good. they picked the wrong person. so what. i don’t need to vote for the selected!

  286. It’s a puzzle

  287. myiq- I haven’t watched any of the convention. Just have not been able to bring myself to witnessing this circus. I know Hill & Bill spoke words that needed to be said, but I don’t believe it came from their heart. Except when Hill acknowledged RD and her PUMA’s. :o)

  288. that’s interesting

  289. I’ve been relying on Conflucians to let me know when to switch over for the only parts I want to see.

  290. As soon as I start feeling a bit better, I realize that with either Obama or McCain I will be having another 4 years of my life (at least) where I will be trying to avoid seeing them throughout the term, because they will make my skin crawl. Okay McCain less, but still.

With Hillary, I could have had 4 more years like the 8 years when Clinton was in office, where I looked forward to seeing him talk and was always interested in hearing about him and his family and his people every day.

During the Reagan, Bush #1 & Bush #2 administrations, I tried to forget they existed, they were so disgusting to me.

  291. Pawlenty. it puts MI in play

Also McCain big thing is we know him, or feel we do.
He can’t stray too far from the box, he’ll lose that advantage. He’s not picking a woman….certainly not any I have read of here. How can he point out Barry’s lack of experience if he picks someone who is in the same boat ? Also H-P tanked when that lady was CEO She bought some awful company that just about wrecked H-P…..and she was sued for spying on board H-P members….come on!

  292. Like I said before I am done with this election, McCain now officially has my vote in November, signed, sealed and delivered. I do not care who McCain picks for a vp, I am done with the Dems.

In the infamous words of ABBA, “Winner Takes it All”!!!

  293. angry artist, the link was bad, it sent me to download a flash file, not to youtube site directly. I fixed the link for you, so if anyone is interested, here it is:

I suppose this is heavily taken out of context and it is framed to make him look bad, and in any case nothing he says bothers me. But I wonder where the tape is from, and what else they have. What also surprises me greatly is that over 2 million people have watched this video and I’ve never heard anything about it before, ever.
