Lanny, your friend from Yale is NOT vice-presidential material!

Doesn't look VICE-presidential to me, Lanny.

(As Big Tent Democrat says on Talk Left, “Speaking for me only.”)

Lanny, I apologize for my rude behavior when you were on No We Won’t Radio with Sheri Tag.  I had a “Satire on a Budget” moment that was quite crass.  It was rude, I admit it, and I promise to not let my satirical moments take the best of my Conflucian tastes.  But I’m really upset at your remarks, especially after your new Wall Street Journal opinion piece from yesterday – so I decided to address my frustration with your “Hillary as VP!” schtick head on:

Lanny Davis Op-Ed:

Why Obama Should Pick Hillary

By LANNY J. DAVIS
July 31, 2008; Page A15

Picking a vice president is obviously Barack Obama’s decision to make. He must be comfortable with who he picks. Comfort level between a president and vice president may be the most important factor of all.

So I can only offer my argument, based on some facts and subjective impressions, as to why I believe it would be in Sen. Obama’s personal and political interest to select Hillary Rodham Clinton as his vice presidential running mate. Not just to enhance his chances of winning — but, more important, to help him be a more effective president.

So basically what you’re saying is that Obama should pick someone who he knows he can boss around and have them do his homework for him while taking all the credit for it.  And you think Hillary is going to be the best at helping Obama be MORE “effective” – shouldn’t he be “effective” all by himself first?

Let’s start with one undisputable fact: Sen. Clinton is the only Democrat who gives Sen. Obama a statistically significant boost in any national poll results.

This is not a criticism of other candidates. This is simply a fact — a product of Sen. Clinton’s nearly 18-month national campaign in all 50 states and the 18 million votes she won. The result was a dramatic increase in her favorable ratings across the spectrum, even among some of her most conservative critics.

In late June, polls conducted by The Wall Street Journal/NBC and Fox/Opinion Dynamics — using entirely different samples — both showed Sen. Clinton giving Sen. Obama a +3% bump, pushing him over 51% for the first time, when the two of them were paired against Sen. McCain and Gov. Romney.

Most recently, in nationwide polling on July 22-23, a Fox/Opinion Dynamics poll showed a more dramatic bump of +8% with Sen. Clinton as Sen. Obama’s vice presidential running mate. In a head-on match, it was Sen. Obama 41% to Sen. McCain’s 40% (this was before the intense media coverage of his European trip). But with exactly the same sample, when all voters were presented with the choice of an Obama-Clinton ticket vs. McCain-Romney, the results were Obama-Clinton, 48% (+7%), and McCain-Romney 39% (-1%).

You just proved that Obama doesn’t have a chance in hell of getting elected by himself.  Only with Hillary, Obama can win.  Yet those same polls prove that Hillary can win with her hands tied behind her back against McCain.  But then here, you start your DNC approved script:

Can Sen. Obama win without Sen. Clinton on the ticket? Yes he can. Majorities favor his views on most of the economic issues. And his European trip was virtually flawless, demonstrating that he can walk, talk and act like a president in foreign affairs and with foreign leaders.

LOL!!!  OMG!!!  WTF????   “Walk, talk and act like a president?”  Lanny, so did Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and John Travolta, and let me tell you that they did a much better job than Obama will in front of his mirror. “Flawless?”  Lanny, dissing our wounded men in uniform because Obama would rather workout with a female German journalist in the Ritz Carlton than have a private visit with our veterans is far from “flawless.”   It’s insulting.

However, with Sen. Clinton on the ticket, I do not believe Sen. Obama can lose. She adds important strength to Sen. Obama’s in the key constituencies of women, blue-collar workers and senior citizens. And, thus, she could tip the balance in such key border states as West Virginia, Kentucky and Arkansas (not apparently in play for Sen. Obama as of now), as well as in the key battleground states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Florida.

Basically, Hillary has the most support by far of the Democratic voter base – but please continue Lanny, state your case!

So, considering this data, why not pick Sen. Clinton? Here are the three most repeated negatives that seem to concern sincere supporters of Sen. Obama the most:

Sen. Clinton is polarizing and will rev up the Republican base.

In fact, the data proves the reverse is true: Sen. Clinton has little or no effect on Republican preferences in a race against Sen. McCain — and she helps Sen. Obama significantly among Democrats.

According to the July 22-23 Fox/Opinion Dynamics poll, in an Obama-McCain head-on match-up, Sen. Obama gets just 74% of the Democrats and 6% of the Republicans. With Sen. Clinton as his running mate vs. a McCain-Romney ticket, Sen. Obama’s Democratic vote goes up to 86% — a significant 12% increase. As for Republican voters, rather than getting “revved up” because of Hillary’s presence on the ticket, there was no effect at all: The Obama-Clinton ticket gains 3% (from 6% to 9% among Republicans), whereas McCain-Romney gains the same 3% (from 82% to 85%).

So what about independents? An Obama-Clinton ticket appears to gain some strength in this critical swing-voter group. With an Obama-McCain head-on contest, independents are evenly divided, 32%-30%, with Sen. Obama over Sen. McCain. But with an Obama-Clinton ticket vs. a McCain-Romney ticket, the independents favor Obama-Clinton 38%-30% — a statistically significant 6% increase in a crucial voter group.

Lanny, you are giving more proof that Hillary can win this election all by herself, without being Obama’s janitor lady cleaning up after his mess, oh excuse me, being Obama’s VP.

Choosing Sen. Clinton would be counter to the Obama message of “new politics” and change.

The simple answer: How can choosing the first woman vice president in the history of the United States be a choice for the status quo? How can choosing someone who can help the future President Obama bring to America its first affordable and effective national health insurance system reinforce the status quo rather than change? The answer is: Older doesn’t mean status quo. Hillary Clinton is a change agent and always has been throughout her public career. Barack Obama selecting her as the first female vice president would reinforce his change message, not detract from it.

Why not as PRESIDENT?  She is the true agent of change since every single establishment DNC rat who cowers on the Bush altar backed Obama.  He is no agent of change – Obama is a Democrat In Name Only, ever heard of that phrase, Lanny?  He fell off on FISA, he’s threw reproductive rights for women to her husband and pastor, so what makes you think he’s different?  Because he’s black?  I’m the same complexion as Barack and all I see another brother gaming the system without doing anything for his community (see St. Pete protest from the black community today, Lanny!)  The community he represented is falling apart, and YES, JEsse Jackson and Al Sharpton have done more for the Black community than Obama ever has and ever will.  But please, continue to humor this uninspired lifelong Democrat:

She would not be a team player, and her husband would be a distraction or worse in an Obama White House.

The answer here comes down to knowing Hillary and Bill Clinton as real people, not as cartoon characters. No one who knows either one of them believes there is a shred of truth to this widely held misperception.

Hillary Clinton is the ultimate team player and I have no doubt she would be an invaluable vice president. She knows from firsthand experience the importance of a supportive and involved vice president.

I am certain of this — not just because of my personal friendship with her over 39-plus years, in the best of times and in the worst of times. But also I know — and I believe even her critics would agree — that she is first and foremost a dedicated public servant. And she would do everything, everything, to help her president succeed because by doing so the nation and the American people would benefit. As long as I’ve known her, that has always been her life’s driving goal: public service to help people.

So what about Bill Clinton? Well, what about him? He loves his wife, he loves his country, and he would be 100% dedicated to helping a President Obama in any way the president wished. If that means being quiet and not distracting from the messages or issues the Obama White House is focusing on, Bill Clinton will do whatever it takes to be helpful.

Of course having a former president as the spouse of the vice president in the White House, much less someone with the intellectual power and star quality of Bill Clinton, will be a challenge to a President Obama and his White House. Few can deny that. But the last time I looked, Sen. Obama does pretty well dealing with challenges, even those his closest friends and confidantes are worried about.

In the final analysis, to repeat, this is Sen. Obama’s personal and political decision and he must be comfortable with the choice. I respect that. I honor that. These are my best arguments that it is in his political interest and his future administration’s interest to have Hillary Clinton by his side on the ticket as vice president — as a cheerleader and articulate supporter, as a candid adviser, and as a friend inside the White House with eight years of frontline experience of what it’s like.

Now it’s up to Sen. Obama. Whatever his decision, I will support it.

“CHEERLEADER??????”  Quick, somebody pull me away from the “Satire-on-a-Budget” button!!

Does Lanny want her to do his dishes too?

Does Lanny want her to do his dishes too?

Lanny, after reading your Wall Street Journal piece, I have more reason to feel that you’d rather play ball with the DNC, DESPITE KNOWING what they did at the RBC was wrong.  There are soooo many other things I want to say, but I think that I can sum it up like this:

I’m shocked that you, who fought tooth and nail for Ted Kennedy at the 1980 convention, would push the VP haka against the best interest of your lifelong friend and candidate who is most qualified and who won the popular vote, and most of all, your COUNTRY and DEMOCRACY itself.   Had Ted Kennedy won in 1980, Reagan would never have been president of the US and never would the Neo-Con revolution come to threaten Democracy and our blue/green planet.  It wasn’t that YOU and Ted Kennedy fought the party – which in effect created “Reagan Democrats,” as you said on Sheri Tag’s show, rather, regular Joe and Jane Democrat weren’t going to support a candidate they felt was not fit to lead, even if he was the incumbent Democratic President!   They wanted TED KENNEDY and the DNC gave them President Jimmy Carter.  The rest happened in the voting booth.   You listened to us in 1980, why aren’t you listening now?

You were one of the good guys that fight to the end.  To see you sell out your friend and your country this way, the one you know is 10 to-the-google-power more qualified and experienced, the one with a better plan to solve our nation’s problems, the one that most DEMOCRATS CHOSE as their leader in the primaries, the one that you’re asking to be Obama’s nanny, I have to say this: PARTY UNITY MY ASS, Lanny!

PUMA is going to Denver and we want to see Hillary’s name on the nomination ballot.  We are going to fight the selection-not-election of PRESUMPTIOUS nominee aka Barack Obama, the “Dauphin of Democracy” as Mother Riverdaughter states – even if you are too yeller to fight for your friend.

Or is this VP haka you’re pushing a way for you to mobilize our resistance?  Some here at The Confluence say that.  I, however, have yet to see proof.

Just in case that’s the “secret plan,” please, in the name of Democracy, please move over Lanny.  We’ll take it from here.

¡Que viva los PUMAs!  (Long live PUMAs!)

  2. I have a “faith-based opposition” to Hillary as VP.

I believe she would make the better President.

  3. Edge: THAT’S GREAT!!!! WOW, I have visit your site more – excellent stuff there!!!

Magdalena: WITHOUT A DOUBT. I also have a faith based opinion – and we have the polls to prove it.

  4. “cheerleader” – that fucking makes me want to go out and squash an ant. Get the parallel Lanny?

Our Hillary doesn’t need you. You are weak and only effective for the BO camp.

  7. Lanny is just another tool/fool for the DNC. They know they need her to win but picking up his soiled undies and getting him a sandwich is not the role I had in mind for her.

  8. I’ve got to say, this Rick Davis of the McCain campaign has a great sense of humor. I was reading on No Quarter that during the Andrea Mitchell interview, she was asking him about the celebrity comparison and he basically said that since Obama skipped visiting the troops to go exercise, what else could he be called except a celebrity…and then when Andrea said aren’t issues more important he said I will talk about issues when you agree to start covering issues…he is so snarky! I mean, I know, he is evil, and had it been Hillary, they would have been snarky towards her too…buuuttt…what do they say…the enemy of my enemy is my friend, just for today.

And as for VP for Hillary. No. I truly believe she will do all the work and he will take the credit. Meanwhile the media will keep attacking her, while both Obama and McCain get a free walk and neither are held accountable. And if Obama/Hillary took office, it would be the same thing. It would be all about what Hillary did and didn’t wear, what she said and didn’t say, is she a racist, isn’t she, etc. No way.

  9. interest to have Hillary Clinton by his side on the ticket as vice president — as a cheerleader and articulate supporter…

I have to think Lanny knew that would turn us off. I am wondering if he also does not want Hillary as VP but cannot say it outright.

  10. I don’t know why so-called friends want her to be VP. Obama will simply take credit for every work she does and blame her for every mistake he makes. God forbid that anything should happen to him–catch a cold and die of pneumonia,, they’ll all blame her too.

But, I am confident that if she has any strategy for August, she is, being the brilliant person that she is, “playing everything close to her vest”. I think that Obama is hoping she will take herself out of the VP contention (even if they have no intention of making her the VP) just so they can blame her for his loss. If she is the vp candidate and he loses, they’ll blame her too. Let the Obama camp be the one to officially count her out. It will still be a win for her.

  11. I don’t know where to post this, so I apologize SM that this is so off topic. Here’s the info re: the platform committee meeting held today in Cleveland.

Ack, what a day. I knew something special was going onwhen I saw the Federal Police cars parked around the hotel. There were maybe 75 people in the audience, many of whom were presenting testimony to the committee. The audience was about 10% AA.

Gov. Napolitano started the meeting off by declaring, “…we are here to set the platform for the Convention where the next president will be nominated. Barack Obama.” Well, I knew right away I wasn’t going to be enjoying myself. Gov. Napolitano informed us that in the last 10 days, 1600 platform meetings had been held in all 50 states where individuals provided information relative to deciding on the convention platform. (This was news to me. I hadn’t heard of any meetings taking place. Of course, I’m not on nobama’s email list.) The platform draft will be presented next week in Pittsburgh.

Today, representatives of various groups gave testimony to the committee. A prearranged set list. Topics covered were Energy/Economy, Health Care, Foreign Policy, Education, Civil Rights, Retirees, Women, Crime, and Farming. I developed a headache and had to leave before the Retirees, Women, Crime, and Farming presentations. I have copies of the handouts given to committee members of all the other testimony.

There wasn’t any chance to interact with committee members because of the prearranged list of persons giving testimony. So, at the break, I tried to ask Gov. Napolitano a question but she buzzed right by me saying, “I need to use the restroom.” I did corner Mayor Coleman to ask if the convention would be open, fair and legitimate and allow Sen. Clinton to be nominated. His response sickened me. He said, “The convention will be open and fair. I don’t know if Sen. Clinton being nominated would be fair” before he walked away. Yep, so now it wouldn’t be FAIR for Hillary to be nominated at the convention. No wonder I developed a headache and had to leave shortly thereafter.

If you have specific questions re: testimony from a certain presenter, let me know and I’ll pull out the key points. (gary and mawm, the woman from the Human Rights Campaign gave one of the weakest testimonies taking less than the allotted 5 minutes and only gave a 2 page handout .)

I can’t go tomorrow or Sunday so I hope someone else will be able to make it. It sounds like they will take testimony from the audience tomorrow.

  12. Did not mean to italicize the second sentence.

  13. poor lanny….he reminds me of Droopy from the cartoons…

  14. BO will be proud of me. Uppity Woman just taught me a foreign language – Russian .

On BO needing our Hillary to win: Toughsky Shitsky!

I always wanted to speak Russian.

  15. ohioana: Thank you for your perseverance in attending this mockery. You have to know that whatever contribution you may have wished to present would be squashed outright. Their minds are already set in concrete. Those “platform agenda” meetings held within the 50 states were never to be open to discussion. Those rules and the platform are already in place.

This is the year we can honestly say that the Dem Party, as we have known it, has disappeared within the ranks of those who have steadfastly set a course of building a new coalition. That coalition does not include dissent. Bravo to those who still continue to attempt to bring down those barriers but they will be met with the same resistance we saw in Washington, DC on May 31st. They have claimed it as their own.

Just as it was important for Gov. Napolitano to brush you off for a “bathroom break” it is equally important to recognize this takeover for what it is. A coup.

  16. thanks for the report, ohioana – very interesting…

  17. Carol, heh. It is the same in Ukranian.

  18. Ohioana, PLEASE SHARE! I welcome anything that’ll inform PUMAs.

Gary: LOL!!! But you know what, Droopy had more cojones than Lanny.

  19. you guys always leave fuzzy on the last post casting his pearls before the swine trolls!

  20. Just so everybody remembers exactly who and what we’re up against, this is a quote from Howard Dean’s Democracy For America Mission Statement:
…”DFA has a long-term goal that looks past November 2004. This organization will rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up — it will take time, but we must start building a base now for the future, just like the Republicans did 40 years ago.”
    http://www.politicalsushi.com/Articles/HowardDeanStartsDemocracyforAmerica.html

  21. Well, I have already posited that I think Hillary does think she’d the obvious choice for VP. Now, of course she is better prepared for pres. She was after all the peoples choice. But, I see no harm in Lanny’s piece, except for that ridiculous stuff about Obama’s world tour and his intellect. Because ultimately, he uses facts and statistics to prove his thesis. Now if Obama does not ask Hill, he’ll look foolish. If he doesn’t pick her and loses, he’ll have no one to blame but himself and everyone knows that. So, I am not particularly upset by the editorial, though I agree with this post in that it’s very sad that the DNC is so anti-Hillary they would deny the peoples choice and the sure thing.

  22. I did corner Mayor Coleman to ask if the convention would be open, fair and legitimate and allow Sen.

Going against your state’s wishes is UNFAIR!!!!

Ohioana, again, thank you for this great info! Please foward to Murphy’s PUMAPAC so she can mobilize the infantry. She may already know this, but just in case!

  23. If they continue to mistreat Hillary at the convention, I will have only one option, wait for HIllary in 2012 and do my best to defeat Obama in 2008!

  24. nice report Ohioana, thank you, for the report and for going.

    this part made me laugh:
    10 -12 – Listening to America Session

    yeah, that’s gonna happen

  25. Lanny, go pound sand up your @ss!

So Hillary gets to provide OJT for Obama? Uh, sorry…no.

On another topic but Anne Milling?? She’s the wife of King Milling, head of Whitney National Bank in NOLA, the toniest of banks! It’s where the Garden District upper echelon do their banking. Can’t believe either she or he are Dems, or rather aren’t Republicans! 😯

  26. Nah, Lanny is being facetious! He is sticking Hillary so far up Obama’s kazoo, I can hear Obama choking from here.

When Lanny was on the PUMA radio show, he said Obama can’t win without Hillary as VP…knowing Obama wants no part of Hillary..Lanny is playing Obama to the tune of Mozart’s “Requiem”…hahaha!

It’s all good…no worries from here..

Now, Howard Dean is another story…deserves a big PUMA Growl! He is a very, very, BAD man! Grrrrrh!

I could use some help going after Howard here PUMA’s..
if you could leave a comment or two on Mr. Batchekor’s Blog he may pick up the story and run with it on his Sunday NY Radio show..

    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/07/31/pumas-rising/

thanks in advance if you can help!

  27. I do believe we have a dilemma:

    Newsweek:
Presumptive nominees Barack Obama and John McCain have been divided on the issue—Obama was against more drilling, McCain has lately come out in favor of it—but just today, Obama qualified his position, telling a Florida newspaper he’d be open to allowing limited offshore drilling if that’s what it takes to pass a more comprehensive energy plan, including support for alternative energy and more fuel-efficient cars.

  28. One of the more interesting comments occurred after Lawrence Korb was done presenting and was thanked, one of the committee members said that Admiral Korb was Asst. Sec. of Defense under Reagan. Korb responded that he never thought he’d be before the Democrats. I wondered if this isn’t more of nobama’s Reagan hero worship by including Korb in the presentations.

  29. Apparently Obama has flipped his position on drilling, anyone hear anything about this?

Masslib, I LOVE YOU AND YOUR WRITING, but I have to respectfully disagree. I see great harm in his “VP Haka” because he did it for Ted Kennedy – why isn’t he fighting for Hillary – and she has a much better case than Ted himself!!!

That DNC fight in 1980 created the Reagan Democrat, because they IGNORED to listen to the Democratic base. Why did they end up with President Carter that year, for party unity’s sake? Look at the devastation it caused! 12 years of Republican rule because the DNC backed the incumbent Carter.

If we don’t fight, who will? I say FIGHT TO THE END.

  33. Hillary wouldn’t say yes to BO at this point. NOBODY has said yes to him. She’s too smart and he’s too much of an @$$hole to “stoop” to beg her. End of story. I am waiting to see how much of a trainwreck we have in Denver. I’m not optimistic at this point that the DNC will exist in its original form after August–and that will not be a bad thing. Millions of people leaving the party will have an impact, hopefully. This is going to be more painful than watching Hillary concede back in June. I don’t know how much more I can take.

  34. Carol I tried posting earlier on prev. thread with a link to Obie’s change of mind but it went to limbo I guess cuz of the link.

As I said in that post, Texans and Louisianians know about offshore drilling and if oil is out there we have to go after it until we can move to alternative energy sources. We can’t do it overnight and will need fossil fuels for awhile. I saw T. Boone Pickens’ commercial on TV and actually it doesn’t look too bad.

Got to run, pizza is here, Hawaiian BBQ chicken! Yum!!

Hey Carol Diamonds? Have you given Ed his weekend pass so he can spend time with Pat?

Carol, you are in a state where Oil is king. I’m in FL. Despite this being a red state, voters here do not want offshore drilling, as it will hurt Florida’s very delicate Gulf Ecosystem.

Obama – again demonstrated – is a DINO, and neither ANWAR nor offshore drilling will solve our energy problem.

GEOTHERMAL energy, as Hillary’s plan very well outlines, does solve it in places where hydroelectric plants are impossible due to geography.

    CAN WE HAVE HILLARY BACK???

  36. Unity, schmoonity.
    (I love saying that.)
This is not about uniting the Democratic party, it never has been.
This is a complete take-over attempt, a restructuring, realigning, power grabbing, makeover coup.
Unity is a cover-up code word, not a campaign tactic or realistic goal.

  43. Carol,

when you think about it, theres no need for more drilling anywhere. There are Bio-fuel companies just waiting to get rolling. Besides the fact, Bio-fuel (made from animal fat) can be substituted for home heating oil for the winter..

I notice Bush isn’t pushing for what is an instant fix…(bio-fuels) rather he’s pushing for more drilling which will take forever, is risky for the environment, and will not do anything to offset global warming ! Bio-fuel is the cleanest burning fuel to date and the accessibility of it would lower oil dependency while lowering the price of gasoline and freeing up Oil supplies for other areas.

  50. Fredster: Thank you for the link. I have lived in FL for 8 yrs now, and I live on the Gulf side of the state.

Republican or Democrat, Floridians know that the Gulf has seen some awful results due to pollution and climate change. Manatees are found dead more and more each day, we can’t swim in our beautiful beaches due to some clusterf_ck.

But people want to pay less for gas. Is this the solution? Many say no. The poll that you showed that offshore drilling maybe the answer. I just know that whatever made this state and it diverse ecosystem will go to SH*T as a result of it.

  51. The heat & humidity gave me a headache, so I went ahead & subjected my brain to Mark Shields & David Brooks on Jim Lehrer. O, mama, do it make my head spin.

Shields has been totally in tank for O all year, and spoke of how awful B0’s been treated. Obama doesn’t want to discuss race, it’s everyone else, it’s McCain. He’s in a dither, which cheered me up some.

Brooks says, well, he wants to see McCain focus on issues, policies, rather than race. Oh, yeah, that worked real well for you both with Hillary, didn’t it? I swear, if you could find one honest journalist in this country…..

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, “include me?” You’re already in my heart, so you’re coming whether you like or not!

  54. two things recently have had a major impact on me and my thinking:

1 – the bush administration’s blatant disregard for the law, actually their position that laws either do not apply to them or that they have the authority to interpret laws to be whatever they want them to be

2 – the democratic party’s similar behavior. the fact that they would interpret their own rules to achieve a certain outcome, even going so far as to CHANGE votes cast in good faith by citizens

both of these are making me think we’re foolish to blindly trust and follow the rules. the deck is stacked against us and the patriotism card is played to make us follow like grateful sheep. it’s a bunch of crap.

that to me is the current value of PUMA. I don’t know what it will become. I hope it continues and grows. but for now, we’re saying “we’re watching you and we’re not being fooled” – that’s golden in and of itself.

for seven years we’ve been told that if we have an opinion of our own we’re terrorists or terrorist supporters. that’s still going on, and Obama has added that we may also be r*cists. r*cist terrorists, that’s us! actually, and I trust I speak for most if not all of us here, WE’RE NEITHER. and we’re sick of this crap.

    to paraphrase Niemöller:

First they came for the terrorist supporters
and I did not speak out
because I was not a terrorist supporter.
Then they came for the r*cists
and I did not speak out
    because I was not a r*cist.
    Then they came for me
and there was no one left
    to speak out for me.

can concerned citizens turn the bullsh*t in this country around, at this point? I don’t know. but we can damn well try.

  55. Shields has been totally in tank for O all year, and spoke of how awful B0’s been treated. Obama doesn’t want to discuss race, it’s everyone else, it’s McCain. He’s in a dither, which cheered me up some.

How is McCain focusing on race and NOT Obama?

  56. Kiki: AMEN!!! We can’t sit idle and I can’t stay quiet with Hillary’s “best friend” acting against Democracy like this.

Masslib: DITTO. Hi-five for that one!

  57. Susan at NQ has a blog about VP talk with this from Gergen:

What it tells me is that Barack Obama and his team need to take a fresh look at the prospect of Hillary Clinton being his vice president. She is the one who understands this fight. She’s been in these fights before. She knows how to handle herself in a fight. She would help to unite the Democratic Party.

Now they want her (and as number 2) to clean up the mess the DNC made and rescue Princess Obama? Outrageous. Top of the ticket or nothing.

  58. pm317 you nailed it to a “T” 🙂

  59. SM, the email didn’t go through but I did leave a post at pumapac.

  60. masslib: Shields didn’t like McCain calling out that B0 played race card; says poor O is trying not to talk about it, everyone makes him. He’s furious that the Internet is spreading hate about O.

Shields is especially furious over the Britney ad. Says it portrays as a lightweight, no, no B0 is brilliant, etc. In one week talked to numerous world leaders, Merkel, Brown, Abdullah, this is an amazing feat.

disgusting, huh? The snark just writes itself, why should I bother?

  61. Many of us have taken a solemn pledge. NOBAMA! Not with Hillary on the ticket, not now, not ever. What part do they not understand?

  62. I have real issues with Obama and I want Hillary to stay away from him. She outclasses him in smarts and integrity…

I want her name in nomination, then we can talk VP… for HRC!

  63. kiki: months ago (around the time of the Nevada caucus, I think) I too used Niemoller at this site to comment on O’s use of race baiting.

Someone implied that some of us were r*cist back then…..oh well.

As for the value of PUMA, I agree.

  64. Okay, Scorpios many, read our — and Hillary’s– horoscope for the month courtesy of Neilario at bp. It’s very good.

When it comes to career this month, you are thinking big, and rightly so! With the new moon total eclipse of the Sun in your tenth house of fame and honors, joined by the Sun, Mercury, and Venus all moving through the royal leadership sign of Leo, you’re about to see some very gratifying developments. Eclipses move in families of signs. This one, the first in the series that will arrive August 1, will be your best moment of the year for advancing professional interests.

At the start of the month, it will be clear that you’ve done something that impressed VIPs, and that now allows you to be considered for a new and quite lofty position – one you will likely get if not now, soon. This solar eclipse will arrive on August 1, and it will change not only you job, but reshape your estimation of yourself. This eclipse will be THAT powerful, and THAT beneficial, dear Scorpio! Eventually, when you are ready to announce this new position, friends will say, “You’ve done well.”

  65. Neilario at bp? what is bp?

  66. This can only be a balloon being sent out to all of us who oppose Obama and back Hillary. Well, my vote will not be negotiated. I will not vote for Obama for president under any circumstances. Someone shoot down that balloon before it ends up being sighted over Germany.

  69. I don’t think Hillary wants to be VP. She knows she will do more good in the Senate than as VP. I also believe that he asked her and she turned him down. Being BO’s VP will only help BO win but with Nancy and Reid in Senate, are you willing to let BO have that much power with the new Democratic mafia.

It is good for Hillary and everyone if she stays in the Senate if BO is the nominee. I don’t want to see this woman who has worked hard her all life be used as a nanny for BO. Why can’t he fight his own battles? He steals her delegates and then he gets to be her boss:roll: Why would any Hillary supporter want Hillary getting onboard the BO sinking ship? All his pastors/priests have bashed Hillary and we are expected to think he doesn’t feel the same:roll: Hillary being BO’s VP which will help BO win won’t benefit anyone in the long term. Certainly not women or Hillary. The best anyone can do for her is say no to Hillary as VP. Lanny is not thinking straight. He is only thinking about the DP not Hillary.

  70. Thanks regency.

  71. Pm317, then it shall come for you. Today, for example, I received one of my first scholarship checks in the mail. I needed it badly so I was stoked. I also decided that I’d like to work for the Clinton Foundation after graduation

They said it could be seen–IIRC–in Canada and some other places I don’t recall.

  72. So Why Is Bill Richardson Really Fundraising for Hillary??
    http://tinyurl.com/6eq4jl

Yes, he IS! Aside from the usual political reasons, like brown-nosing, I also cite a tidbit from a contact who thinks it’s because Richardson smells Clinton on the ticket…but which way???

  73. Okay… I Googled Obama is an idiot and I found this:

    http://theviewfromhere.wordpress.com/2005/11/25/obama-is-an-idiot/

The comments are classic. Notice the date of the blog and then the few comments… I found # 4 interesting.

  74. McCain said this afternoon: there are resources that can be captured quickly – months to 2 years. Biofuels are great, and we need to move there just like Brazil’s sugarcane. Corn is no good – it has almost an equal cost to return. T. Boone is heading to get this done with air and gas.

We will be the happiest nation in the world when we become fuel independent. We can do it. And, remember even saying we are headed in the right direction brings down the cost of fuel.

    Monk is starting!

  75. Regency, noticed last night that there were quite a few of us Scorpios. VEEEERy Interesting.

Heard Gergen make remarks about Hillary VP last night. Thought, polls must be worse than I thought if they are floating the idea of Hillary as VP to pull their a$$ out of the fire.

Just can’t vote for O–no matter what. Think Hillary too smart to be put in position of taking all the blame and none of credit

  76. I had listened to what Hillary was saying on that video about the VP question. She was describing herself in that “what a VP should be” – but she was also saying “the most important judgment” – while knowing B0 didn’t make the right one.
I don’t understand Lanny’s dogged effort for this thing that no one really wants. I mean , why be second mate on SS Titanic? Does Lanny really think B0 has a chance in hell to win?

  77. What would happen if she became his running mate and then he was somehow disqualified for being POTUS after the convention?

  78. regencyg, congratulations! Clinton Foundation sounds like a wonderful idea. I am in IT and I wish I could move into some kind of non-profit, philanthropic endeavor.

  79. When I heard Lanny say that Pampers’ visit to Europe was “virtually flawless” I accepted that he fell into a vat of LSD, hit his head on the toilet, and invented the flux capacitor. Now if he can go back in time to “Selma” and make sure La Bamba’s parents never procreated that would be redemptive.

  80. Hey everyone. Several people mentioned it earlier but I just read from the AP that Obama now supports offshore drilling. His flip flops are more offensive than his current stance. As a Democrat he should never compromise on issues like abortion, FISA, or drilling. He stands for absolutely nothing. You’d think that the party would learn not to get an actual flip flopper after Kerry was attacked for being one in 2004.

  81. Offshore drilling is cool now? Get Mrs. Butterworth out from under the bus…fresh waffles are being servied!

  82. sm77: another excellent post.

Lanny: Friends don’t let friends be Obama’s VP.

  83. Shields is especially furious over the Britney ad. Says it portrays as a lightweight, no, no B0 is brilliant, etc. In one week talked to numerous world leaders, Merkel, Brown, Abdullah, this is an amazing feat.

Well, McCain is saying the emporer has no clothes and the Village can’t accept it. They will.

  84. hewy since i am called by some of my “friends” a party traitor and Lord Haha and they refer to my friend RD as Tokyo Rose thought a little humor was called for here is a rendition of No we won’t broadcast wit RD and ME playing Lord Ha-ha and Toyko Rose:

Good evening Obama troops this is Tokyo rose and Lord Ha-ha again!

Bringing you Kool-Aid free news….first from Tokyo rose…

Obama continues to shine like a fading star…he has lost his shine and unlike Evita he has lost his style….
He is like a quantum singularity (look it up bots) he is collapsing in on himself.

His poll numbers continue to sink lower and lower and in several he even behind that is right behind John McCain…

Wait but democrats have a shining hope Hillary is still polling ahead of McCain and outside the margin of error…oh sorry Obama-bots not the news you wanted to here!

also news is that most women whose husbands and boyfriends support Obama are actually cheating’ on them buy getting a little hillaryman supporters on the side seems like most big “o” supporters lack the cojones to satisfy them….

and for you Obama supporting women you husbands and boyfriends can be found ogling all the lovely ladies who shine for Hillary-who can blame your guys they are just intoxicating….they are leaving you for women who value their ballot boxes….my will it be lonely at home with your men out cocktailing at the scratchin post?

Tokyo rose says when you support a liar and a cheater its permission to you significant others they can do the same!

Now you take it Lord Ha-ha…

Well looks like the guy who played the race card did so one too many times he made it seem like it was three of the four suits in his deck! My oh my throwing George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and Abe Lincoln under the bus on the race issue is not sitting to well with your former base or independents

Ha-ha THINKS… you may have been caught with cards up your sleeve…all of them jokers to bad Obama…

How much of the O-bot money did Obama spend trying to get Europe’s vote? And merkle was unimpressed! But when you throw all your latte and arugula money at him what did you expect.

Obama showed his true colors by dissing the troops keeping them at attention in Afghanistan for two hours while he hob knobbed with the brass all those troops sure made him feel presidential I am sure at attention for the great Obama!

Ha-ha and rose are grateful but wished he had been president instead of FDR! We would be national heroes and the Reich would have stretched from the Urals to California and the Japanese empire from Hawaii to the Urals to India!

your humble lord ha-ha would like to leave you obamabots with one final thought

is he really worth all this adoration for agreeing to FISA, supporting offshore drilling, and wanting women to speak to their husbands and pastors before making decisions about their bodies…hey wait Rose this Obama is our kind of guy!

Laney strengthens Hill’s hand in every conceivable way here. I don’t see how anyone can’t see that.

  106. I just want to tear my hair out!!!!! Way back, when The Precious was getting ready to prematurely declare himself god of the DNC I wrote a blog post about how the Dnc was trying to relegate Hillary to the head cheerleader position. ARRGGHHH! {madly tearing hair} Here is a bit from that post

“Now why in heaven’s name should Hillary settle for the cheer leading position when she has all the knowledge, talent and experience to be leading the team to victory on the field? I thought relegating women to the cheerleaders spot went out with Title IX! Let’s nominate the first string quarterback and let the third stringer bide his time while he learns and EARNS his way to the top spot.(And while we’re at it- fire Coaches Brazile and Dean who are trying to throw the game.)”

I agree with you Masslib, but at the expense of the 45 million people without adequate healthcare, me being one of them? At the expense of our planet – who the Prince of Green Al Gore sold out for “party unity?”

We don’t have more time – 4 years, eh, ok. But Obama’s 8-10 years of continuing Bush’s policies? We need somebody to fight – and it ain’t Lanny as far as I can tell. We don’t have the time or the luxury of playing below the scenes.

If Lanny had the interest of the American people in his heart and soul, he would fight to nominate Hillary at the convention – and NOT SAY what he said at Sheri Tag’s show – “it’s detrimental to party unity.” F_CK THAT. He did with Ted Kennedy – and at a far less advantage.

We need help and it’s not coming soon enough!

  113. Hmmm…I see why the O-camp is changing their position on drilling (poll driven much?), but I also think it is damn stupid. Everyone already thinks he is a flip flopper, and now he just gave them one more reason too. While it is true that McCain also flipped on this, he gave a concrete reason as to why – rising price…whether you agree or not, he gave a reason. Obama basically said that he wasn’t going to use his spine to stop drilling, not because he thought it was right…what does that say? He will let you do something he has spent the last 10 days saying is wrong, wrong, wrong (just inflate your tires already! It may be true, but it rings too much like Jimmy…) because he doesn’t want to bother fighting you…

    OOOOKKKAAYYYY.

I have no doubt the Repubs will do something with this. That McCain campaign has been mighty snarky and the Obama campaign takes itself wayyyy too seriously…

  114. masslib, I agree. His arguments underline that he will lose without her.
Lanny also addresses and dispels any reservations that SDs and wavering Obama supporters may have about nominating her. It’s not too late after all.

    WTF????

I’m not Irish, but dammit I’ll be Irish for your post, WOW!

It doesn’t matter. Jesus, he’s too arrogant to pick her, though she would accept. It’s a net win for her. Don’t you see how this strengthens Hill’s hand? She’s making it abundantly clear that she’ll take the spot. He doesn’t ask her, he loses, everyone will say he should have picked her. He doesn’t pick her, he wins, they’ll say well I guess the long primary helped him. He picks her, they win, she’s President in eight years, AND they’ll credit her with the win, which will give her a strong hand in the WH. He doesn’t pick her, he continues to slide in the polls, pledged delegates are pissed(why didn’t he pick Hill?)supers come to their senses, he ought to have picked her, they nominate her. Laney strengthens Hill’s hand in every conceivable way here. I don’t see how anyone can’t see that.

    Masslib,

I actually disagree that Hillary really wants the position, because I think if she did, Bill would not be missing in Africa (that’s right, he is saving AIDS babies in Africa…evil racist that he is…). If Hill wanted it, Bill would be promoting the schmunity parade and kissing up to Obama to make it known he could be a team player…the fact that he is gone, I think, tells you all you need to know about whether or not Hill wants VP.

That being said, I do agree with you that she is smart to not make any real clear statements one way or another (she has never actually said if offered, i would accept, she just says she wants to help the Dems win)…because when he doesn’t pick her, he looks like he is arrogant and can’t be outshined by her. If he did pick her though, it would be a problem. If they win, she is stuck being second fiddle to him. I have no doubt she would do all the work, and he would take all the credit. I also think she would take crap from the media while he gets away with murder. I also think 2016 is out for her (this country will not nominate a 68 year old woman…i am not that optimistic)…If they lose, it will be blamed on her even more than it will be blamed on her if she is not VP (it’s because Hillary is too polarizing, you see, nothing is Obama’s fault as long as Hillary is around to lay the blame on) and that destroys her prospects for 2012…IF he loses, she is the top runner for 2012…if he wins, well, she wasn’t going to have a chance in 2016 anyways…

  117. sm77, I agree. My own feeling is that the Dem big wigs are shy about fighting for Hill because BO is the first potential AA nom, which I personally think is bs, but that’s what I think. That said, I don’t think Laney’s operating in a complete vacuum here. I think if you watch that video of Hill, she states I am the first contender(who won the pop vote, I might add) to endorse the other guy before the convention. Look, 75% of the SD’s are men. My guess is many of those are liberal men in BO’s base, ie elite “creative class” jerk offs, so I think there are some political calculations taking place here. What Laney is doing in no way diminishes Hill’s chance at convention. Indeed, i think it strengthens it.

  118. Obama has found a running mate that will not outshine him in knowledge talent or experience….he had to dig deep for this one way dooown the democratic party chain of command ladies and gentlemen I present for the first time ever Obama’s perfect Running mate….

Ms Ethel Schwartz homemaker from Queens New York. She has spent the last 35 years married to her husband yellow cab driver Eddie Schartz raising two girls Rebecca a nail tech at Luster-Nail in Brooklyn and Ruth a Bus Driver for the Transit Authority in Far Rockaway beach. Their Artistic Son Eddie Jr live as a poet in the east village.

Ms Schwarts was stunned at the honor of being chosen as President Obama’s runningmate…though bewildered about why she was chosen when campaign director Mr Axelfraud and party chairman Dr Dean gave her the news…she asked ” Why would you choose Me Im a nobody and I know nothing about runnig a country I have no experiece?”

Dr Dean and Mr Axelfraud replied “Exactly!”

    Well it could happen….

    fuzzybeargville

  119. sorry just thought of this and it tickled me so….I had to share it think what kind of chang that would be on a ticket and hey she’s a woman too the oval would never run out of cookies in barak’s cookie jar on his desk….next to the “the buck$$ pass through here” sign!

    fuzzybeargville

  120. Fuzzybear, may I call you that. can you hear me laughing out loud from here???? Have been curious to find out who the Ms. Schwarts will be. You are right on with qualifications they are looking for. Hard to find somone who will not outshine him in knowledge talent or experience

  121. Fuzzy, LOL to both of those and happy belated birthday too.

  122. Fuzzy: LOL. Thanks…really needed that laugh.

  123. down 9 points in 5 days. obama can’t withstand ridicule: all it took was a pin-prick to let out the hot air.

    http://londonamerican01.blogspot.com/2008/08/one-cant-withstand-ridicule.html

  124. Masslib: OK. We agree – except that Lanny’s using radar and I want him to use an AK-47 like Rambo.

Fuzzybear: LOL! Ethel, I bet, has more knowledge of running a country than Barack does.

  125. I can’t get onto noquarter or alegres…anyone else having problems?

  126. Phala- and Ms Schwartz may be perfect her daughter Ruth the bus driver in Far Rockaway Beach is probably up Donna Brazile’s alley!

Prolix I have to share and find humor can get a point across pretty well-obama doesnt do it as well as me if I do say so myself (visual fuzzy scratchin’ his nose with middle finger)

yes Phala you can call me fuzzybear!

    fuzzybeargville

  127. lol Fuzzy!

  128. I tried to read through the posts to see if anyone else mentioned the “Bill Clinton – be quiet” thing. But a Maurice Sendak video is on the TV and my kid is still up and yakking with his Dad about the planets. “Shush, Darling! Mommy is being subversive.”
Anyway, please someone tell me the Bill Clinton will be quiet thing bothered them too. I love Bill Clinton’s voice. I never want him to be quiet.

  129. I would be surprised if BO picks a running mate before he tries on a few more disguises. (“Is that you baby [daddy], or just a brilliant disguise”?)
Right now , he’s thinking of drilling in Anwar as Cheney, the oil baron. After a few more costume changes and he is no closer to getting the lead part, he may have his minions twist Hill’s arm to get her to be his vp-totally against his will but “for party unity”.
Heavens help us if she goes that route-unless she knows for sure that he’s going to be arrested soon,

  130. I can’t get onto heidi li’s either…is it just me?

  131. gary, I was. I had to use firefox to get either to work.

  132. What Bill Clinton be quiet thing?

  133. firefox? isnt that the mig 31 clint eastwood stole from the russians? or was it obama he does everything…he signed the declaration of independence he wrote the constitution the gettysburg address…HIS!….first flight Obama did it built and captained the Titanic….oops bad historical reference!

    fuzzybeargville

  134. Gary, I went to No Q and the page opened, but I got an error and it closed down several times.

  135. Big Dawg is as above all this chicken sh*t Obama stuff as Obama wish he was….Bill was a success and they hate him for it….Dean and Obama are as jealous of bill as Carol Diamonds and Pat are over Ed REndell!

  136. garychapelhill, I’m having problems with the sites you named, plus Sugar and a coupla others.
    Anybody know what gives?

  137. Fuzzy,
I loved the line, “The buck$$ pass through here”
Truman will be known as Pinwheel Harry if that guy gets elected.

  138. I don’t know….weird

  139. I can’t get on sugar either…

  140. i think it has to do with IE, use another browser

  141. atypical-that sign is good because when Rezko visits the Oval he will feel at home behind that desk….too

  142. It’s explorer, gary.

  143. gary -could it be an attack by the bots against the PUMA alliance?

    fuzzybeargville

  144. i can get onto all of them with firefox

  145. Yes, people are emailing me. It’s explorer. Everyone is having the same problem with explorer.

  146. some one said there’s a problem with sitemeter … if you don’t use IE then you can get on any where

  147. i can get onto them all with safari

  148. wry, please give details of “Bill Clinton–be quiet” reference

  149. i’m totally breaking up here… i was just blogging about obama’s flip flop on the oil drilling thing … so i said he threw mother nature under the bus, then I went out to look for a copy of that old commercial about it’s not nice to fool mother nature … she’s got a puma sitting next to her!!!!

  150. SM – You are brilliant. Thank you for posting that so eloquently.

  151. Obama is now pro drilling?

What else is his awesomeness going to switch on? I hope this guy will at least keep his name and his party affiliation.

  152. it’s like mother nature is a PUMA!!!

  153. MAblue, yup, as of this afternoon… guess Move On.Org is going to have to pull it’s commercials expressing disappointment in McCain for doing same.

  154. Heh. He already dropped his name, remember? He used to go by Barry.

  155. Masslib – It’s this that I’m stuck on. “If that means being quiet and not distracting…”
What the hell is Lanny trying to do here? Get them in there because he believes Barky will be indicted soon? Is he friends with Fitzgerald?

So what about Bill Clinton? Well, what about him? He loves his wife, he loves his country, and he would be 100% dedicated to helping a President Obama in any way the president wished. If that means being quiet and not distracting from the messages or issues the Obama White House is focusing on, Bill Clinton will do whatever it takes to be helpful.

  156. This has to suck! MoveOn just made this attack ad against McCain about the drilling:

I suppose they’ll have to pull it now?

Also, I heard on No Quarter that it’s IE that’s having a problem getting into those sites. I’m using FireFox w/ no problems.

  157. Next thing you know thing you know he will have every one refer to him as “Honest Barak”

    fuzzybeargville

  158. I may buy a package of thank you notes so I can address one to O every time he gives me ANOTHER reason to NOT vote for him!!! Thank you for reinforcing/reaffirming my good judgement. Ha

  159. The McCain camp has hit on something here. Most Americans aren’t too kean on seeing 200 000 Germans filling a stadium or a Platz. The message: He’s a celebrity. He’s nothing. He preens. He demands. He’s everything middle America hates.

  160. Sorry, Phala, I don’t know how to put stuff in italics ( I’m a low information voter). But the second paragraph in my post above to Masslib is Lanny “reassuring” that Bill will be quiet and not “distract”…I HATE that word distract now. It’s a Barky word.

  161. yeah internet explorer has been brought down-I blame Obama!

    fuzzybeargville

  162. Fuzzy, I don’t know about Carville’s latest stance. I never expected him to say anything good about BO. , I thought Mary finally got him to rollover(hee, hee)

  163. Americans are not going to vote for someone they don’t like. That’s what our elections have become. Unfortunately, Americans were starting to like Hillary. She was able to grow beyond the ugly impression people had of her and was able to bring them around. Now look what we have. McCain campaign is brilliant. By attacking Obama and the press he rallies his base. By attacking Obama on the race card and defending Bill he further drives that wedge in the Democratic party. And, frankly, I’m very happy to be wedged.

  164. wry, thanks. this blogging is new to me and I am learning as I go.

  165. Phala,
Did you say affirm as in affirmative action?
    Isn’t that racist??

  166. The McCain camp will be brilliant when and if they move from mild derision to outright ridicule.
CampO has no defense for ridicule.

  167. This has been a political season of mirrors. Obama said that Hillary would say or do anything to get elected, when it turned out that it was his MO. He said that once people got to know him, he would be more electable, but the fact was that once Hillary got out there and let people know her, she was overwhelmingly first choice. I could go on, but you all know all of this already.

I think at this point, there’s only one clear thing to do: start asking Obama to drop out of the race for the good of the party. Every day. Several times a day.

  168. sitemeter is bringing them down…

  169. Ben, before BZero and Axelfraud are done, all Dems will be so wedged that thongs will be mandatory.

  170. Oh yeah, the old Parkay margarine ad–“It’s not nice to fool mother nature–(lightening/thunder cracking)” For real–it’s got a puma next to her? Beautiful!! Hey, tell me where I can go see that…it’ll make my day.

  171. Hi, folks, I just got back here. Great post, SM!

Can somebody please tell me where to go to get an explanation of Edgeoforever’s link.

Or Edgeoforever, if you are still here, (or someone who gets it) could you please tell me—I’m not understanding about Hillary’s “getting the best of both world’s”. Is this guy high? Or why is he saying this?

  172. Don’t you love Obama’s mumbo jumbo as the embarrasses his supporters again with another flip flop?

”If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage — I don’t want to be so rigid that we can’t get something done.”

I forgot Obama is a “moderate” so moderate environmental damage would do.

Is there anyone with more than a single digit IQ who thinks Hillary Clinton would still be alive if she were the one crapping all over the progressive agenda?

I don’t think he means on the trail. I think he means he won’t like go to Davos and say what is on his mind even if it conflicts with BO’s agenda.

  174. As I said on an earlier post, The drive by media is stumbling all over itself to defend The Precious. Mitchell: “McCain’s ad patently false.” Brownstein: “McCain’s disdain for Obama is unseemly.” For the love of God already. As Tony Blair said about the British royal family “These people need to be saved from themselves.” This is getting so pathetic.

  175. My husband said (at dinner), Princess O should pick Paris Hilton for VP. What do you guys think?

  176. Who is Brownstein?

pm, he was going to pick Paris Hilton but Paris had a baby with that other woman. Oh wait, that was Edwards. I get my pretty, wealthy empty suits mixed up sometimes.

  178. jos: cute

  179. Gary – I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM TOO!!

At the end of it loading, all of a sudden it says “Internet Explorer can’t load No Quarter.”

    WTF IS GOING ON!!!????

  180. Ron Brownstein: columnist LA Times I think. He’s just one of the typical drive by media types. and for the record he wants it to be known that he “was in the camp that thought the Spears ad had racial overtones.”

  181. Oh, he hails from Camp Obama. Well, that explains a lot.

  182. sm77: it’s a java applete made for internet explorer called site meter, if you’re using that on your blog, and folks are using IE to get there… it’s blowing up … just switch to fire fox or safari

  183. I wonder how Michi and Barry are going to feel on November 5th when the Secret Service packs up and leaves.

  184. My point being that they are getting very accustomed to living the high life. And when the voters reject them it will all be snatched away.

  185. Last night, after I installed a Windows update,
my server wouldn’t load and kept timing out.
Also instead of opening up my homepage (this
blog), IE kept redirecting to About: Blank.
I think my browser defaulted to IE, which I
never use. I reset to Firefox this morning, and
I’ve had no problem today. I thought it was
just my computer, but the same thing seems
to be happening to you guys, too?

  186. Oh, it looks like Dakinikat has the answer:)

  187. Massib: Guess they’ll have to pull that ad – OH WELL! That shows Move On for supporting a flip-flop sandal candidate.

Oh but who cares, George Soros will take the tax write-off.

  188. Internet Explorer = MicroSoft = MSNBC = GE = Excelon = David Axelrod = Obama.

    Got it.

    Where can I download Firefox?

  189. Paris Hilton for VP is HOT!
    Absolutely perfect.

  190. I agree with all those who think Hillary should not be on the ticket as VP. I would be ashamed and embarrassed for her and it would be an embarrassment for all women. I would never vote for an Obama/Clinton ticket. It would set women back to the ‘barefoot and pregnant’ days.
If Hillary doesn’t get the nomination for President (and I can’t imagine the DNC allowing it), then there is only one scenerio where I would vote for her as VP. Of course, the RNC would never allow it.

A McCain/Clinton ticket would blow everyone out of the water. The MSM would have no choice but to take Obama out of the limelight to focus on a truly historical ticket.

I would love to see a poll asking about a McCain/Clinton ticket vs. an Obama/anyone else ticket. But these are the pros and cons as I see them:

    Con:
    – It would be a Republican ticket.

    Pros:
    – It would lose the extreme left and the extreme right – and all the Obama supporters!
    – It would draw Independents and moderates.
    – It would be the next best thing to a viable third party and may even evolve into that.
    – Clinton and McCain are friends and respect each other.
    – Clinton and McCain are known for reaching across the aisle to compromise and accomplish what is best for America.
    – It is very possible Hillary would be at the top of the ticket in 2012. I don’t know how that would play out. I’m pretty sure it would be a Republican ticket. I doubt it would be a Democratic ticket. It would be interesting.
    – etc.

I am not promoting the Republican ticket – I’ve never voted for a Republican for President before. I would just love to see the uproar and the hand wringing if it were to happen. I’m sure it won’t.
McCain is a maverick but he won’t take that big of a chance, just like Hillary wouldn’t take that big of a chance with a third party in 2008 even though she knows what this country would be getting if Obama won.

It is just something I enjoy thinking about in case Hillary doesn’t get the nomination. And I would still love to see that poll.

  191. my proposed letter to obama(tounge in cheek)

Dear Mr Obama(I like the sound of that Mr Obama)

I dont care if you drop dead, or drop out! Just get out of the way for a real democrat-Hillary your time has passed your ship is sinking like the titanic and there are not enough life boats…be a good captain go down with the ship! Dont be an Ismeal and dress in drag and slip on to a life boat.

Let the icy cold water you have created for your enemies now embrace you as the ultimate irony. You deserve worse. For the sake of the party you claim to love please get out of the way so we can win! You sir are a weaker candidate than Kerry and Mondale!

You must hate your party and this country to hang on and drag them down to the bottom of the grand banks with you. This is not about party or country as always this is about you.

Good for you singlehandedly distroying the party of the little guy and handed the White House to the Repugs! I hope you suffer everyday in your senate office until you are sent back to Chicago in 2010 if they will still have you!

I want Hillary back you selfish self-centered pile of sh*t. I am tired of listening to the words that come out of your trap you flatulent bulbus gasbag!

good night and Nobama bless America!

    fuzzybeargville

sorry I cant take this anymore I think I have snapped!

    Pat get my vomit bucket

  192. The statement “damned by faint praise” applies here. Boil it down and what is being said is that Obama is going to be another Bush and they need another Cheney to prop him up. Senator Clinton should RUN, not walk, as fast as she can away from this DNC made mess.

Since Obama and his family are so omnipotent I’m sure he’ll end up selecting Michelle as VP because no one else is as “perfect” as she would be to help him “perfect” the U. S.

  193. Michael: Tell him how you REALLY feel!!

    😉

  194. Thank you Dakinikat!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME – in your commentary, blog and in everything!

FUZZYBEAR: I love your Mr. Obama – just get out already! Will you do one of your beautiful prayers here on this post? I LOVE THEM and they do work miracles.

Karol: LOL! Michelle as VP! She can’t wait. She’s also on the so-called vetting team, shhhh!

  195. If BO were to go with Hagel (?) then maybe the RNC would go for HRC. McCain wouldn’t object either.

  196. Y’all are going to like this one:

  197. Sorry all but I live in florida and the drilling thing got to me I am two minds on it florida contributes nothing to the national energy budget but she takes allot the Mouse and the Hulk dont run on ice tea and lollypops.

The Sunshine stat ranks in the bottom 25 for alternative energy production and PV generation. So I can see why people all over america want us to do our part with offshore drilling in the east gulf.

Bot for Obama to say yes to it after making florida’s voters count for 1/2 he does not have that priveledge! That sorry excuse for a collection of carbon hydrogen and oxygen atoms who increases global warming every time he flapps his lips…

    Fuzzybeargville

  198. MASSLIB: WOW!!! What a video!! 300 delegates – please fight for freedom!

  199. ty sm77 …hugz to you …

  200. how tone deaf can a campaign be to send obama on a grand tour while people at home are suffering. where do you think hillary would have been? west virginia, kentucky, missouri, florida…not Downing Street. hell, she’s been to all those places already.

  201. i thought the 300 was a bit over the top even for us.

  202. Fuzzy – Turkey Point in Miami is a Nuclear plant that provides 1/2 of the power for the entire state.

So far, as I know from verifiable research, Turkey Point only runs at a 30% capacity.

WE DO NOT NEED TO DRILL OFFSHORE PLANTS IN FLORIDA!!!!

Just by 1 Nuclear plant in the state will provide power for 80% of the state plus whatever else is currently in place.

No more Nuclear Power – 1 is enough.

  203. I thought it was clever. She needs three hundred delegates to sign that petition to get her name placed in nomination.

  204. I thought the 300 video was great – thank Masslib for bringing here!

Conflucians – I must go. I have to put my PUMA cub to bed after her 2 wks away from being with her dad. I love you guys, thank you all for coming to post & read.

I know I’m a bit extreme in my words – but I appreciate the opportunity to share it with you, even if you disagree.

See you tomorrow and NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE IN.

    Good night!

  205. goodnight! sm! always love your posts!

  206. marya, I just read your comment and I have to ask “why the f*ck are you here?” Geesh, weird!

  207. Uppity Woman mentioned McGovern’s low percentage rating (38%) in ’72, yet the party supported him.

With the trend line in polls going down, down down for Barry, now tied with McCain, do you suppose he could keep falling, until he’s tied in approval rating with our President, George W. Bush, by convention time? (Wouldn’t that be sweet!)

Would the DNC still select him for the nominee?

  208. What’s wrong with us? We believe in country first.

  209. how tone deaf can a campaign be to send obama on a grand tour while people at home are suffering.

I dunno. It seemed incredibly stupid to me. Who cares whether Obama gets a big crowd in Germany? The whole impression I get is, the media decided wouldn’t it be wonderful if they could make Obama the president. Then, they decided let’s all go on a big world tour and show everyone wonderful Obama acting like he’s the president. Oh, and of course the people of the United States will vote for him, no worries, let’s go back to talking about how wonderful it is to follow the wonderful Obama when he’s acting like the president!

I wish he’d take a week off with NO MEDIA just to give ME a break. All over TV, radio, the web, I walk to work and the DNC kids with clipboards ask me to help support Obama, I go out to dinner and on the way to the restaurant, get stopped by another kid with a clipboard asking me to help Barack Obama (yes, this happened this evening).. I get mail from every Dem campaign committee signed BARACK OBAMA, I get the phone calls.. it’s so incredibly annoying.

  210. dg: I’d like that too, only thing is the more spontaneous moments he has, the more likely he is to blow up … just turn the tv off and keep hoping he keeps f*ing up…

  211. Prolix, are you still here?
Did you see where LtGov Mongiardo spoke in Pikeville & wants MORE mountaintop removal in KY?
Wasn”t he the first Obama SD in the state?

Here in KY, we are so blessed with natural resources [coal, oil, natural gas, shale, waterways, limestone, you name it] and we are going to be screwed over more than ever.

Yeppers, I’m still here — just downloaded Firefox. I’m still in the state, but didn’t see Lt. Dan’s proclamation. He indeed was one of BZero’s first converts along with Chandler.

  217. masslib–still have shivers from the video!!!!!!!

and no that is not the same as a “tingle up my leg” ala Matthews re: Obama

  218. Tonight I dedicate my wish hope prayer affirmation and meditation on this our only home I hope in sme small way it will make us think next time we do something that harms it…

    Creator father mother god/dess

We are thankful tonight for you divine intervention in insuring our Hillary will be placed in nomination and will receive some small part of the recognition she deserves. Tonight we beseech you to soften the hearts of the delegates to consider her to lead our nation and be a voice for fairness in our world.

We live in such a beautiful world diverse in all its expressions of life in the air on the land and in the sea life struggles against all odds to just be. It is a true miracle that any of this glory exists. From the smallest piece of viral material to the largest of sea creatures the whale everything you make is truly a piece of art. You are the weaver of this tapestry of life our home this island earth is.

Watch over these things that you have created, give us the wisdom to be you faithful gardeners mindful that we do not inherit your creation from our parents but borrow it from our children. I hope the children of this next century will know of forests that reach like hands in prayer to the heavens and rivers and lakes that run so clear they can see the multitude of life in them. May the skies always be filled with the winged birds that migrate north to south and south to north filling us land-bound creatures with awe! That the mighty seas and oceans abundant with life; will always be a source for poetic inspiration.

Creator help us to protect our fragile world that this earth as long as it abides way continue to support life in all is brilliant diversity.

Again I ask you to bring blessing of peace onto my PUMA friends, peace, in the knowledge that divine providence guides our great undertaking to make this a land where all can breathe free. Help us to realize you even in those we disagree with and keep us safe from all harm.

    Amen

  219. Fuzzy, BZero should have had you pen his Western Wall prayer — his prayer wouldn’t have been all centered on himself.

  220. Just watched Bill Moyer on PBS about Abramoff, Norquist, Reed, DeLay. Remembering thinking at the time what a Republican mess—Now, like in madamab’s play last night think we need to shed more light on both parties shennanigans

  221. That was lovely, Fuzzy.

  222. OK, who likes to pay taxes? Use this with your kool-aid drunk morons (especially if they middle-aged and somewhat successful and have their own homes and such, as opposed to the star-struck 20 year-olds). Below is my exchange with JCifre from savagepolitics — I recommend his site for fair comparison of policy positions and other discussions.
Imagine you sold your modest 300K home and made a 50K profit and asked to pay taxes on it without exception. Well, Obama will do that. This should worry small time home buyers and sellers for whom home is where most of our savings go. Here is JCifre’s response to my query:
    ———————————————-
JC, is it true that he is going to tax 28% on home sale profits without exception? (no waiver on the first 250k per homeowner like it is now)? If this is true, I don’t like it at all. I am a liberal who does not mind paying my taxes but this particular aspect is unacceptable to me. Home is where most of us put our savings into and when we sell it — paying capital gains tax on it without any relief is ludicrous (especially for small time buyers.)

{YES, IT IS A HUNDRED PERCENT TRUE. OBAMA WAS EVEN MOCKED BECAUSE OF IT BY ABC’S CHARLIE GIBBS, WHEN HE WAS DEBATING HILLARY CLINTON A FEW MONTHS AGO. BUT OBAMA WAS CLEAR THAT HE IS IN FACT PLANNING ON DOING THIS INCREASE WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS.

JUST LIKE HE PLANS ON RAISING TAXES ON THOSE HE CALLS “RICH” WHICH INCLUDES ANY HOUSEHOLD THAT “COMBINED” MAKES MORE THAN 100,000 DOLLARS. IN OTHER WORDS, A COP AND A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER TOGETHER WOULD CONSTITUTE UNDER HIS CLASSIFICATION A “RICH HOUSEHOLD”. HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES? THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENTS!} JC

  223. Everyday my husband or I get an Obama beg in the mail. The next day we write PUMA or JSND or put fake money in the envelope & return it.

The only problem is I’m embarrassed that my mailman must assume I’m an Obot.

  224. Fuzzy, I so look forward to your evening prayer/affirmations. I wish you would collect and publish them so I could have access to your inspirational words all the time.

  225. Phala, that Moyers show is a rerun. When it first came out, I was stunned by what a good expose it is.

  226. PofEd, LOL, love the fake money aspect, how about next time pasting BZero’s picture on it?

  227. Prolix, how are your folks doing?

  228. PofEd, it’s much too sad to talk about here, but thanks so much for asking — it means so much.

  229. Prolix, we also cut out our name and all the little ID numbers, so they’ll keep sending us crap, and we’ll keep costing them.

His pic on the money? Great idea, I’ll do it tomorrow in your honor.

  230. Have teh Blogger Boyz weighed in on drilling?

I remember Kid Oakland anticipated the RKF bs by practically accusing HRC of trying to kill his niece and nephew when she advocated applying teh gas tax to oil companies and giving consumers a break. That was the end of civilization as we know it and proof that she is prmordial evil!!!!!

So I’m sure this will be the deal breaker between them and BO.

    Real sure.

  231. Ahahahaa, I can’t wait for KO’s reaction to this, you’re right..

Also, completely unrelated topic – remember when the Democratic strategy was going to be, define John McCain as the 3rd term of George W Bush? Whatever happened to that?

  232. PofEd, I can’t believe the level of advertising between Howdy Doody McConnell and Lundsford. Wow, there are big bucks being thrown at one another.

  233. thanks all I really am humbled as far as penning anything for Bzero I am afraid I want to pen a little prayer for hillaryand bill that maybe she would resite everynow and again before the nation.

Not a great prayer to lift us up so high that we have to look down to see God for that is where pride resides.
But something small that we could carry in our hearts all day and relfect on that each one of us adds to the great story that is the conversation between the creator and us.

If you are not comfrotable with this concept that is ok think of it as a conversation between creation and yourself. Fuzzy is all about respect and accepting the joy that is our life. whether we believe or not we all have to acknowledge the miracle of our chance exsistence.

I hope arabella checks in from time to time to read these prayers while she is away.

    fuzzybeargville

  234. Of course, we can write Kid’s response ourselves. “None of you understand! BO has a secret strategy. He’s spent his whole life cleverly trying to look like your typical corrupt, unprincipled corporate kissass Chicago pol. But that was to lull The Man ino a false sense of security. When he gets in, whips off his disguise and shows what a deeply committed liberal champion he truly is, it’lll be AWESOME!”

I think they’re still trying to tie McCain to Bush even while Obama is more reminiscent of Bush every day.

  235. Spot on, Seriously. I actually had BO supporters tell me Obama opposed health mandates because he secretly planned to pass single payer in office.

  236. Move-On must have put out that anti-drilling ad BEFORE the Great One spoke his words saying well, yeah, we can sorta do some drilling – just don’t hurt the environment though. Now whatta they gonna do? Another flip-flop – gosh darn it – how they are going to handle their ads when things are really gettin’ hot and heavy? (Gawd) Anyway – why is the Great One now thinking that drilling will do the trick? He just said the other day that we all just needed to inflate our tires and all would be well. I wish he’d make up his flip floppin mind.

I’m tired and I’m sick of him!!!!!

  237. A couple of quick points from just today,

    1. BZero’s plan is to give everyone $1K financed from a windfall profits tax on oil companies. Hmmm, seems like we heard a certain Senator from NY advocate such a plan 4 months ago…

    2. The Swift Boaters are out with a new book called ObamaNation — just released today, detailing a whole slew of accusations on BZero’s affiliations and dealings. Hmmm…seems like we were told months ago that this would happen by that same NY Senator.

If I knew how to needlepoint, I’d start on a set of “She told you so,” pillows for the RBC.

  238. I don’t know if a link to this latest McCain ad has been posted:

Personally, I like Sophie’s video better.

  239. This is why I won’t be voting for Obama. I am frikkin sick and tired of women in the background doing all the work and coming up with all the ideas while the men in the foreground are basking in the glory and credit.

Frikkin SICK and TIRED. No more.

I don’t want Hillary on that loser’s ticket. She belongs at the top of the ticket, and it would be an insult to her to be VP to Obama as Prez.

  240. Please comment on this article. It in regard to the Hillary event yesterday.

    http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000002932848

  241. ”If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage — I don’t want to be so rigid that we can’t get something done.”

That was disgusting, and that tears it. I’m done with Obama. Next time, try nominating a Democrat.

  242. Actually, I just looked at McCain’s ad again. It only shows Obama speaking at various functions, and YET, he look narcissistic, melodramatic, schizophrenic and foolish.

Hmmm…is this the one of those attacks that supposedly, according to Obama, is a racist jab????

    I don’t THINK so.

  243. I actually feel sorry for Obama when I look at the ad.

It’s pretty much “the jig is up.”

Me too! I was sending out so many I finally started dropping them off so the mailman wouldn’t see them.

  245. I’m back and I’ve just spent $150 unnecessary dollars on books. Kill me.

  246. regencyg, books are never unnecessary.
    Neither are dollars.
    Just my opinion.

  247. regency, books are my weakness. Even when my boys were realllllly little, they knew if they asked for a book I wouldn’t say no anything else was much less likely on our limited budget.

  248. I’ve always been the book girl all my life. I bought 7 books for me, 2 for a friend, a movie and 3 chocolate for another friend, and the new Kathy Griffin cd for me.

  249. Hi, seems most have called it a night.

  250. I’m here! Though I should call it too.

  251. Anybody still around?

  252. masslib, the dumbest thing an Obot has ever said to me was that it was racist for Clinton to be gracious and call attention to the fact that both her campaign and Obama’s are historic.\

Why, you ask. Well, because see in her sneaky machiavellian way, she was calling attention to the fact that Obama is African American. A racist dog whistle for those voters who were unaware of this. (Presumably, by never being gracious and acting like her campaign isn’t historic at all, Obama was actually trying to keep her idenity as a woman on the DL to try and keep sexist voters voting for her accidentially. What a guy!)

  253. Fredster, still here. Were you planning to move back to Chalmette or am I confused?

  254. masslib, the dumbest thing an Obot has ever said to me was that it was r—– for Clinton to be gracious and call attention to the fact that both her campaign and Obama’s are historic.\

  255. Yes we are Phala! Have been having problems getting an apt for me, the Momster and Chloe the attack mini-doxie. Had a lead on one that would have been purrrfect; 2 beds/2baths. She and I both take diuretics so 2 baths is important. 😉 That one fell through in that the tenant who said he was moving hasn’t given a notice yet.

I’ve posted a request on a listserv I belong to and am about ready to take an ad out in the local St. Bernard paper. I’ve seen some that were 2 bed/1 ba., but I tell ya (as a friend said to me) “I can guess which one of you will end up peeing in the sink at one time or another! 😮 I’d be willing to take a bath & 1/2. Of course the other issue is with the Momster, she can’t do a townhouse type thing. If I got her upstairs she’d never come down, with stairs and all.

And, today we got the Road Home grant check in for repairing the house! Yay! I have a question about something on the check because when they sent the papers they had some for option 2 which was to sell our house and buy another in LA. I did a pen correction and did a cover letter on it to state we were doing repair/rebuild. I then called the office and was told it was okay; not to worry. Still when you see “seller/buyer of property” on the check it scares you! That thing ain’t goin’ in the bank until I know for sure everything is squared away.

The Momster’s 83rd b’day is Aug. 15th. I’d love to be able to tell her “I’ve got a place; we’re going home.”

  256. Don’t know if anyone is still here. How do you deal with comments like that .

  257. I did get a reply to my request on the listserv and a person there said she had an apt. ready soon that would solve [her words] “most, but not all” of my requests. I emailed her back tonight asking for particulars. Hell, if she tells me she’s got a 2 bed with 1 bath but is willing to put a port-a-pottie in the back yard, I might consider it! 😆

The whole ‘net is acting wacky tonight. I was trying to load the TV Guide website to see what’s on teevee and it loaded s l o w l y, and then the listings section didn’t load. That page has an aspx extension so I wonder if somehow pages with active X are getting screwed up or something…

  263. Am keeping positive thoughts for you. 2bed-2bath would give you some extra privacy. Know you can’t be too choosy and you know it is just long enough to rebuild. Are contractors and materials available so rebuild can be done in reasonable time?

I hope my sons take as good care of me when i am 83. Your mom is soo lucky.

Haven’t heard anything lately about the green rebuild project Brad Pitt was raising money for. I am a HGTV fan and Design Star did an episode redecorating homes of a policeman and fireman. Anything to highlight the needs 3 years after the disaster is a good thing and hopefully will help.

What do you think of Jindal

  264. Someone said earlier it had to do with Explorer. Some of the blog sites were blocked totally when using Explorer. I’m not too knowledgable on the subject

  265. Just had a series of error msgs that shut me down so don’t know what is going to happen

  266. More error msgs. Must call it a night. Good night all

  267. That worked anyone still here?

  268. I think all the servers and websites have reached their limit but we must stay focused. We cannot lose sight. They have truly under estimated us. We are the rascal majority and the men of best quality are trying to control our minds. Let’s just say no deal.

I don’t know about you but I am a Clinton Democrat and there will be no Democratic Party without them.

I will not belong to a Democratic Part does not respect and appreciate Hillary and Bill Clinton. I definitely now work for one that does not appreciate Chelsea.

A big shout out to Chelsea. I beg of you to join the movement and agree to be a gues on one of the blog talk radio show. Well, you have to TOD’s show first.

    Power to the people.

We have drawn a line in the sand. and it must not be crossed. It is time for “the people” to demand what is rightfully ours.

We must not dilute ourselves or settle for less. If we keep making the same mistakes we will continue to get the same results.

I don’t really consider 2 baths completely “out da box” so to speak. I knew of apts that were set up that way because of two individuals sharing an apt and each wanting their own space as you said.

Yes contractors and materials are available now. In Chalmette there is a Home Depot which came back and now, believe-it-or-not, Lowes is going to open in the Parish.
Plus, there are lots of building supplies places and stuff on the West Bank that didn’t suffer so much from Katrina. I’ve been in contact with some contractors about repairs and said when we got back I’d give them a set of things I want done and then to get prices from them and a list of customers. I’ve got some major changes involved for the house. We’re already going with the highest SEER a’/c-heater unit Lennox makes for our house. The a/c guy is holding the unit for us (I paid him half quite some time ago). Plus we are going to replace all the windows with double-paned ones. Also, since the house is opened up now (down to the studs) we can really insulate it. The house was built in the 70s and there was no insulation in the outside walls. I have seen and have been checking out foam insulation. It’s got good reviews. In the attic it will fill in the tiniest of cracks and spaces and will I believe do the same in external walls. Also, we’re going with the energy efficient appliances; fridge, stove, washer/dryer, freezer and tankless water heater. It’s a lot of initial costs, but our a/c guy said with the a/c alone and the double windows, we should recover the extra cost of the a/c within 18-24 months. In south LA winters aren’t bad but you pay out the ying-yang in the summer for AC. We get hit with fuel adjustment charges for electricity. It’s the cost the utility has to pay for natural gas to fire the generators. Frequently in the summer, the fuel adjustment charge is more than the KW used. So if we tighten up the house it’s to our benefit.

I hope my sons take as good care of me when i am 83. Your mom is soo lucky.

But what else could I do Phala? I have no significant other or spouse and kids. How in the world could I walk away from this old lady who is sometimes terrified she’s going to be left alone? I have two 1/2 brothers who threw her under the bus; I can’t or wouldn’t do it.

Haven’t heard anything lately about the green rebuild project Brad Pitt was raising money for.

That’s so odd you say that! Mom’s internist up here has a son who is going to Tulane Medical School and his wife is an architect who is working on that project with Brad. Dr. Howell’s son and his wife bought a place in the Irish Channel that they are restoring. I can only imagine with an architect involved how great the restoration will be. When he told me this I mentioned how great it was that folks were going into those inner-city areas and gentrifying and turning them around.

Also, you’ll love this! Had mom at Dr. Howell’s the other day and when he came in and was checking her he said how much (again!) he loved the pralines that we got him for Christmas! 😆 I asked mom “do you think he’s throwing a hint for some more of them?” She said who cares…how much were they. I told her and she said order him some more! So I got him a double order of Aunt Sally’s pralines and a jar of Praline Sauce you can put on ice cream or whatever! He’s been a really good internist and I’m thankful we found him up here. Wish he could see me, but I don’t have health insurance anymore. 😦

  275. Upstate are you still here?

  276. If you’re having problems getting on to certain sites this morning it’s not your computer or the site.

Lambert says it’s something called “sitemeter” and it’s giving IE shit fits.

I can access some sites but not all. It seems to be mostly blogs I have problems accessing.

And I would not be surprised if the Oborg are responsible.

  277. Ohioana
    Thx for your splendid post.
It made me remember a post I read somewhere, can’t remember where. It was from a Dem insider, a Party worker.
Anyway his post was as long as yours and he was seriously gripeing about these new Obama “open” platforms. It seems he and his local Dem committee (the little people of the Party) work very hard for several months preparing a Dem platform local proposal.
This was just going by the board with BO’s quickie platform meetings etc.
IMO these mean nothing, but give a democratic gloss to what is decided up there.

  278. Karolina: I come and go. Now I am back (for a short while)….we share computers at home.

  279. myiq: no, it affects all kinds of sites, even some of those of the Collective.

  280. “THANKS PUMA-SF”
    Your words were “spot-on”!
Watching the video & seeing how “HAPPY” Hillary looked, it became “CRYSTAL CLEAR” how “CONNECTED” she & “US” her supporters are.
It’s as if we’ve come to gain strength from each other. I 1st noticed how “un-happy” she looked “with-out “us”. Then seeing her smile & be at “ease” in the video; my feeling were confirmed (for me anyway).
Gota Go, lots to do to help with the NY PUMA BBQ TONIGHT!!

  281. Upstate, I noticed that you speak Ukrainian yesterday. Remember? Toughsky shitsky? 🙂

Seriously, I was wondering if you live in Buffalo, or, um, do you just know “a few words” and didn’t “learn it at home”?

  282. Whatever platform Obamanation comes up with will be based on the deeply held principle that guides Obama’s life:

    “Say anyrhing to win.”

  283. Guys, is this new McCain ad common knowledge and I just missed it yesterday because I was away fro my computer so much the last few days?

  284. I could bearly stay awake to see Monk and Psych.

I am happy to see that I not only learned Russian, but Upstate tells me I can even speak Ukrainian!

I feel so much more important.

    Thank you so much BO!

  288. Gallup Poll invites feedback or suggestions about how to improve Gallup.com, so please e-mail feedback@gallup.com

Suggest that they not assume that Obama will be the Dem. nominee, and tell them it would be a public service to poll for both a McCain/Obama contest and a McCain/ Clinton contest.

  289. That McCain ad is directed dead aim at Hillary voters. This total mocking of Obama “we are just having some fun” is brilliant.

What in the hell does “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for mean” ?

  291. Has the Obama camp responded to it yet?

  292. I think the new McCain ad and the 300 ad should be part of a new thread. the mcCain ad taps into what all Hillary’s voters knew and thought all through the primaries: this man is an empty suit with a messiah complex who just wants to eat his waffles in peace.

  293. I was wondering if this was part of yesterday’s ongoing “racist” topic that was being tooted around. This is clearly just him looking like a walking personality disorder, no matter what his outward appearance is.

  294. the one” is never wrong when are we going to get that into our heads-offshore drilling is a core democratic value and universal healthcare is not…..women consulting there preachers and husbands before making decisions about their bodies is a core democratic value choice is not….FISA support and government spying on its own citizens is a core demopcratic value the first through tenth amendments to the constitution are not!

gotta love this post-democratic candidate-can I now have hillary back?

  303. Ohioana left a — well, frankly, a very disturbing — post about her experiences at the Cleveland platform committee. A programming note on C-SPAN this morning stated that they would have coverage of the Democratic Platform meeting in Cleveland on August 7&8. I believe Maxine is one of the SDs that left Hillary for BO on June 3rd. I think Stephanie Tubbs Jones from Ohio is better. Her and Strickland delivered Ohio for Hillary. She also questioned that Bo surrogate from Texas who couldn’t name one accomplishment from BO.

Fuzzy, I was just afraid that you were going elitist on us. I indeed witnessed your TM.

  310. Aaah, Stephanie, yes. Has she not publicly endorsed Obama yet?

  311. I don’t think so. Are you planning Hillary’s White House staff?

  312. So, is that the winning ticket: Clinton/Tubbs Jones ’08?

  313. Karolina, I’m just looking to get a good picture in my head that I can say Yes to, instead of saying No to bad pictures.

  314. I think that Bill made a bad choice w/ Gore in 02, so maybe a little sending of some good ideas out into the ether for Hillary to pick-up on is not a bad project.

  315. Sophie, me too. It is so zen.

  316. I would love to see her put Jesse Jackson on her staff in some capacity.

  317. I guess JJ is not zen for me—more retribution. I have to work on that inner peace situation….

    Yeah.

  318. Sorry to be so late to the discussion. I slept in.

I think Lanny is pushing Hillary for VP because he knows that it will never happen, but it puts some responsibility for his inevitable loss back on Obama’s shoulders. We all know that the DNC along with the MSM is teeing the GE up so that, when Obama loses, it will be all Clinton’s fault.

Now we can say, if only Obama had picked Clinton as his VP, he would have won. He didn’t, so it’s not Clinton’s fault that he lost. Pretty smart of Lanny, if you ask me.

  319. OK I confess .. in addition to having an internet radio station and a show that plays the WOMEN of independent music .. GODDESS RADIO which comes on at 10 Am this morning btw 😉 click this to listen
    http://audio.cygnusradio.com:8000/cyg1_hi.m3u

or find CYGNUS RADIO on Itunes under rock and eclectic or just go the web page http:www.cygnusradio.com and click listen …
I am also an astrologer .. and there are two eclipses in LEO this month which will impact the LEO candidate bo… eclipses are very tricky to interpret .. the ancients always ascribed adverse events to them .. I have observed that as positively as i like to make interpretations; eclipses can unfortunately herald turns in fortune .. and they impact bo directly .This will be interesting , because they impact his sun in leo and his moon in gemini .
I think that quite possibly even more information will be uncovered about him that will not work in his favor for election .. and they also can affect his popularity ..people can have ” a total eclipse of the heart ” where he is concerned and see him for the opportunits and ruthless narcissit that he really is . The first eclipse was on Aug 1 and eclipses usually work for three days prior and three days after . The second will be on Aug 16.
Btw most astrologers I know took one look at his chart and were very concerned, One that i know very well said “HE IS THE LIAR FROM HELL”

  320. Ethel Schwartz as VP wouldn’t fly. The 12th amendment doesn’t allow the President and Vice President to be from the same state.

Relevant Text: The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves;…

  321. Maybe Lanny is pushing for Hill as VP so that as the pundits discuss it, someone will inevitably slip and mention that she outshines him and then the conversation can change to “why didn’t we pick her for the top spot to begin with?”

  322. Face it, all the arguments against Hill as VP are arguments FOR Hill as President!

  323. He will not pick Hillary for VP he willnot pick anyone that detracts from his center stage glitz and glamour , or anyone that draws the slightest bit of attention away from himself .

  324. What about Stabenow (as Hill’s VP pick)?

  325. Stephanie or Byah or Strickland

Not so much Maxine – she is a little too rough.

Eddy won’t do it. He has to stay near home with me.

  326. Swanspirit: how does Hillary’s chart look for August?

Sophie: I REALLY hope that someone says that at the most opportune time, slipped or planned, and that it catches on like wild fire, ASAP!

  327. Carol, You’re in PA?

  328. Texas – Eddy is hiding out from Pat at my house.

  329. I wish Obama would pick Donna Brazile. Then we could give both of them the BOOT!

  330. Carol, that’s not what Pat said last night…

  331. Tellurian you just made me laugh OUT LOUD hahahahahahahahahaha

    Karolina hers looks good I

  332. Pat’s blow up doll that she keeps in the bedroom, and the cardboard replica sitting on her coach are just part of her fantasy.

  333. Hillary is a Scorpio so I think August is normally a challenging time for her during the year.

  334. Swanspirit, thank you for sharing those insights. I’m not an astrologer, but find it curious that your assessments match up with professional psychologists/therapists, who’ve described his Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Also recall the Men for Hillary website fellow, a seasoned counselor, saying he was the consumate Con Artist (i.e., “The Liar from Hell”).

Looking forward to more Leo eclipse effects on BO.

The Moon in Gemini might help explain Barry’sFlip-Flopping, would you agree? He does it so often it’s hard to keep track. Wondered if it was tied into moon phases, or just whenever it’s politically expedient.

Also, thanks to the link to Goddess Radio. I’m working on some lampoon songs to do justice to BO’s self.

  335. Ha! Stabenow actually served on the banking committee, unlike BO, who only served on it in his mind.

  336. Fredster: Thank you, thank you for posting that link to Marc’s Musings with Hillary U-Tube in CA where she explained it all about being on the ballot for nomination. N.Y. Daily News needs to have their hands slapped!!! Wonder where the “so-called new” came from? Hmmmmm …..

And, just watching Hillary makes me feel so secure: I get into “what could have been” mode; then I get into “why, why, why?” Her day will come – sooner or later.

  337. Where is everybody? No new RD or Gary or SM77 or Masslib posts; no comments. Out shopping? Working on the lawn? Well, I’m bout to sign off myself – meeting with dd today.

  338. OK – I’ve figured out that there is something amiss with servers at The Confluence today or something like that.

Anyway – wanted to make sure everybody looks at Hire Heels front page today – a song from my era “I Am Woman” (Helen Reddy). Goes along with the Hill quote too. Makes me feel so powerful.

Click on “read one thing today” and there is the You Tube of Hill in CA talking about her nomination. (The one Fredster gave link to.)

  339. OBAMA is a POST TURTLE. Couldn’t get up there
on his own. Someone HAD to put him up there.
AND doesn’t know what to do once he’s up there.

Well I will call it as I see it. FALL MF FALL. and
according to the numbers, that is exactly what he
    is doing.

    Rise Hillary Rise!

  340. What a dissapointment last Sunday’s Lanny Davis in PUMA radio! He WAS Hillary’s friend but he is a POLITICIAN so he supports Hussain!!
I hope Hillary place her name in nomination…
    HIllary 2008 NO VP!
    MariaFL

  341. Lanny Davis, how do you say MEOW-CH?

Lanny has turned out to be a DNC pussy-boy.
    Pussy-boys meow….. AND PUMAS ROAR!

I used to love Lanny, BUT……

It is amazing how people change their support so easily, when their job is on the line. Lanny, it looks
like Obamas got you by your little pussy balls.

BE A MAN! Take back your balls! Stand proudly
    with Hillary. Don’t be a sell-out.

  342. Lanny,i liked you WHEN YOU WERE FOR HILLARY!, BUT IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE YOU’ve drank the KOOL-AID TOO! WHERE DID YOUR ETHICS GO??? YEAH, DON”T be a SELLOUT!!! DJM PUMA FROM OHIO!!!!

  343. Dr. Tantillo (‘the marketing doctor’) has a blog on branding ( http://blog.marketingdoctor.tv ) and did a post back in May on the idea of an Obama-Clinton ticket–arguing that from a branding perspective, it makes no sense, and actually wouldn’t be a good move for Clinton’s brand, either.

“Because of the length of this primary fight, brand identity and loyalty to brand have become central. What this means is that a kind of brand mutual exclusivity has set in.”

I’m not sure I agree…but it’s a compelling argument that also goes a long way toward explaining the reason that even some Hillary supporters don’t want to see her as VP.
