Holy Hemiola! We got some serious attention today, didn’t we? First, Salon’s tagged teamed Rebecca Traister and Walter Shapiro against us. Shapiro was especially offensive with his bad boyfriend, “Where else are you going to go?” Downright creepy. Then HuffingtonPost got into the act with Will Bower (By the way, Will, our PUMA posts are time stamped. Just sayin’) Even Big Tent Democrat got into the act. But what was amazing was the sheer number of people who were fed up with the way this primary season has been going and thought it was time to take action against the DNC. If the comments I read today were any indication, the PUMA message of “It’s my vote, you’ve got to earn it” has a lot of followers.
So, keep spreading the word. A lot could happen in 2 months.
Like, Obama could drop his “Eagle-as-target-practice” pretentious, presumptuous presidential seal.

You always know when you hit a nerve, the Obamabots come out in force. It reminds me of the Dalak’s (sp?) in Doctor Who (Ok, I’m a Sci-Fi nut). If anyone has ever seen Dr. Who, the Dalak’s are robots with one goal in mind, to exterminate those who oppose their master. They yell “Exterminate!” in their robot voices whenever they see an enemy, and then they try to blast them with their ray guns. They’re lousy shots for robots, though…they usually miss, just like the Obamabots.
Ain’t gonna happen here. I was a PUMA back before it was cool. 🙂
The Republicans disenfranchised one state. The Obamacans, two. If we don’t smack them down hard, we’ll never have another straight election. Four years of a cranky, pissy, dickhead/war hero is a fair trade to make sure we have at least one party that thinks twice before flushing the Constitution down the toilet.

Like the knife-thrower’s assistant, Traister misses the point — again and again, and always just barely.
Point 1: It’s the gent, not the genitalia. Traister defines the anti-Obama phenomenon purely in terms of “ladies who love Hillary too much.” Sisterhood is powerful: Hence, the PUMAs. It’s a menopause thing, or so sayeth Traister.
Bullsh*t, sayeth I. Larry Johnson owns testicles, as does your humble narrator, as do a lot of other folk in PUMA-land. This is not a girls-only club. This is not about estrogen solidarity. In the end, this is not even about Hillary Clinton.
It’s about Obama. He’s just not the right guy. He’s not even the ACCEPTABLE guy.
Point 2: It’s the blogs, stupid! For some bizarre reason, the online world receives bare mention in Traister’s piece. Rebecca notices the carnage in her living room, but she can’t see the big gray peanut-eater named Stompy.
Wanna know how PUMA began, Becky? Hit the wayback machine and read the daily spew from Kos, TPM and Democratic Underground throughout the months of February, March, April and May. If that exercise doesn’t inform you of the central role played by the blogs, then you must be so stupid that you need an instructional video to teach you how to pour milk on corn flakes.

Imagine Hillary on the steps of the Capitol taking the oath of office. I see her hat. Another woman sees her wearing red.
There is no Obama in sight.
I hold that image very strongly, and I am not in the least inclined to Obama-like cultish practices. In fact, when I started investigating the candidates for the primary, Obama was the one being sold, Hillary was being trashed in the same old right-wing way by the “new” Dems like Kos and Arianna (but I always admired Hillary and was impressed with her record as a Senator), and Edwards was just too one-note Mill Worker’s son without a second term in the Senate.
The Axelrod speeches sent up all kinds of red flags (but I admit that Deval Patrick delivered them better, but then I get a sense of integrity from him).
When I tuned into Hillary taking questions, I was blown away. There was no going back to the mediocre ones.
I have been involved in politics since my first memories (as a result of my mother’s passion), but Hillary is the first Presidential candidate (other than Bill, and I had a few reservations about Bill until I saw his political brilliance in the face of the altered Republican Party) with whom I have ever been completely enthralled. She’s the real thing.
I remember well when SM introduced PUMA. I keep wondering who this guy is who seems to be taking credit.
It started with SM. Murphy created a PAC. I really have no idea of how Bowers got into it.
Well, throwing his possum seal under the bus is just the latest example of his change message – change his mind, that is, to pander to whatever audience he’s addressing. Heat about the seal? No problemo, under the bus it goes.
Of course, there is another kind of change he’s all about – he wants our change. He prefers the paper kind but he’ll take whatever he can get. He’s already spilled the beans that he wants our $ more than our votes. LOL

I’ve not once claimed to have created the PUMA acronym. I’ve told every reporter who has ever asked me that the acronym was brought to my attention from the blogosphere in my role as an administrator on FaceBook’s largest Hillary board.
My role and goal was originally to spread the PUMA cause all over FaceBook, and beyond. It was that effort that got the attention of certain journalists… whose articles then got the attention of certain media outlets… who then asked for me to speak on behalf of the PUMA voter… which I accepted.
Until someone can find an earlier reference than SM’s “P U M A”, I’m more than happy to acknowledge that the first cry for “P U M A” came from here… and, in fact, I have told many a journalist exactly that. I’m learning, however, that I have very little control of what these journalists end up writing.
So, SM, I invite you to be as involved with all of this as you would like to be. Feel free to contact me and let me know. From what little experience I have of you all here, I think I would be more than happy to work with you on any number of levels.

My take on BTD/Armando is that he KNOWS Hillary is the best one, but he’s still loyal to “Markos” so he must push the “Obama” agenda.
Both Markos and Armando are Latinos, as I am. They know, as much as I know, that Obama has ZERO interest in our community. But we Latinos are many colors and of many ideologies, but I don’t agree with either Armando or Markos. What differentiates us is that I’m a woman, they are men. Is it Latino “machismo” thing? I’m not sure but it could be.
Armando is MUCH better at looking at both sides of the story, that I can say.

I don’t know how much I can be of help – I am a single mom, Latina, middle/lower income earner, Hillary supporter- that’s me. Nobody would listen to me as much as they’d listen to you, that is the country we live in, unfortunately. But knowing this, I know that you will take what Riverdaughther wrote, what we all feel here, what Murphy is doing at PUMApac to the masses.
What I would like to see is this:
Remind the MSM that the Democratic party CHEATED AND STOLE VOTES from Michigan and Florida at the RBC meeting on May 31st. Votes were stolen – Obama was awarded votes that were for other candidates. Florida got 1/2 status while other states who commited the same grievances – got their 100% “waiver.”
THAT’s the rage and fury behind PUMA. VOTES WERE STOLEN and the DNC CHEATED to help Obama cross the line. We all saw it on LIVE TV.
We, as lifelong Democrats, cannot and WILL NOT stand for it.

I am happy for any publicity generated. It has been a terrible year having to endure the press and most talking heads in the tank for Obama- simply awful, a complete echo chamber that has left many of us reeling. So I am grateful to anyone who goes out there and exposes the DNC and the so called “Dem strategists” that keep saying we are just a fringe group, and how most of us will all “get over it” and be one big happy family come November. She says what we’re seeing is a Grand Illusion of sorts, and psychically sees: Obama will falter, scandals emerge, MSM will even do a beat down on him (if you can imagine that!), Hillary will unsuspend, SD’s will switch, they duke it out for the nomination in Denver, and she will be POTUS #44. Pretty curious stuff. Check it out, and think of it as a daily meditation or visualization on the future.
I believe the outcome of the paying down the debt discussions between BO and HRC camps, and the meeting with big Hill donors on Thursday will be very telling. Why don’t her donors take care of her debt first? Heard she’d discount her own ~$12 million loan, so it won’t be as much (more like $10 mill). Obama can encourage his donors to go to Hillary Clinton.com, but hope there’s not a “deal” so she can remain independent of him, should circumstances allow her to unsuspend. They can campaign together in Unity, NH on Friday, but if more stuff comes out on/from Obama, forget unity.
Just given the latest flip flops and pronouncements, if the trend line continues, I don’t know how BO can prevail through August. Do you?

There does seem to be a lot of troll activity again. Obamatrons had a very bad week–the Nafta wiggle, the Great Seal debacle, Larry Sinclair, public financing and the telecom sellout. Even when you’re on the kool-aide that’s hard to “conceptualize.” But there’s a frantic edge to the posts like they’re expecting a bomb to drop any moment [we can only hope :0)].
The more the trolls keep saying PUMA is ridiculous, the more the buzz. That can only be good news. And I read that the umbrella organization, Just Say No Deal, has gone from 80 sites/organizations to over 200 as of last week.

This PUMA… a college educated woman from a mixed race family who lives in an upscale liberal area… will not be voting for Obama because I find him to be exceptionally unqualified for our country’s highest office.
It has nothing to with Hillary Clinton “losing”, though there are many of us who as a side issue are also extremely concerned that the Democratic Party leadership chose to conduct the primary process so undemocratically and so “fixed” a win for an unqualified candidate. We shall see what happens in Denver and if the trend continues it will likely prompt many of us to leave the Democratic Party forever. This however is a side issue, the main reason I won’t vote for Obama is that he is unqualified.
My not supporting Obama also has nothing to do with an historic opportunity having passed. It hasn’t. If anything the door is open wider now than it ever has been. I’d be just as happy to have the historic event this year be the election of the first black president but that can’t be the only qualification… the candidate has to be a truly viable candidate and I simply feel that Obama is not even close to that at this point as a first term Senator with little experience and questionable connections and judgement.
I, for one, would also be EXTREMELY disappointed if Hillary did run as Obama’s Vice President… even if she is the VP on the ticket I won’t vote for Obama.
The sexism you mention is a very real issue but it is a side issue, it is not the main reason we PUMAs are not supporting Obama. It is a reason that we are outraged at many of the main stream media outlets and another beef we have with the conduct of the DNC leadership this year… But it is not the main reason that this PUMA does not support Obama, the main reason is that I don’t find him to be a viable presidential candidate.
And the “Roe v. Wade” we’re being held hostage by our reproductive rights issue is not the issue either. As far as I’m concerned it is not an issue at all. This is settled law, as settled as Miranda rights, de-segregation, Title IX, etc. I no more forsee reproductive rights being taken away after over 30 years than I see a return to segregated schools and no girls sports teams etc. The reason this PUMA is not supporting Obama is…

I began the year on the fence and open to learning why I could support him… I have learned vastly more over the course of the last few months and it has solidified my resolve… Obama will never be a candidate that I will vote for due to his lack of experience, bad judgement, hubris, and old-style Chicago Combine politics. The Oregon poll is a SUSA poll, and SUSA did pretty good polling during the primaries. This isn’t a Zogby poll. I’m a little surprised it is this tight right now. We have a very big Senate race here in Oregon. We are trying to finally get rid of Gordon Smith. A lot of folks thought this was the year to replace Smith with a good Democrat, Jeff Merkley. This poll cannot be good news to Merkley’s campaign.
Anybody remember all the hoopla over that big Obama rally on the Portland waterfront last month? The one with 75,000 people? Some of us thought the huge turnout had more to do with good weather and free bands. Maybe we were right.

BTW, Obama could very well lose in my homestate of Michigan according to some pretty recent polls. He’d be the first Democrat since 1988 to lose Michigan, and it looks like it could very well happen. What’s maddening is that if Clinton were the nominee Michigan would be an instant Democratic lock.

The only thing that makes me question her on that page is that she says that John McCain is “prejudice” [sic], i.e. too prejudiced to run with Condi Rice. How can he be prejudiced when he has a daughter darker than Obama? Or does she mean he’s too prejudice against blacks? But aside from that, her predictions are pretty spot-on. She was right about Biden, Kucinich, HUCKABEE (that one I thought was good), Thompson, Giuliani, McCain, Obama, Clinton…the list goes on.
I guess the rule of measure I use to determine “luck” versus having a true gift would be the ratio of “spot on”s to the ratio of “wow, you suck”s. Her “spot on” ratio seems pretty high. Of course, it could be that she’s just REALLY lucky or a REALLY good guesser. None of us would ever know. But like I said, I do believe that a very few people have these gifts, but most psychics are full of bunk.
Re: gifts: It’s kind of like how some dogs and cats have the sense and ability to know when someone is going to die. This Friday Animal Planet (ha ha, with all of my plugging for AP, you’d think that I worked for them…I don’t, I just have a LOT of animals and the channel is probably the second most viewed channel we watch) they will be profiling one of those dogs who can tell when someone’s going to die.
I think my cat qualifies as one of those animals (one of my cats). I keep small animals as well, and they have short lives; and whenever one of them was having dire health problems and was in its last hours, this cat will come to me and scream at me until I check up on the little ones. He also screams at me when there’s a problem; water bottle empty, something not clean enough. This special cat also reminds me to take my own meds and has saved my life (twice) whilst I was sleeping. So I think SOME humans and SOME animals do have gifts of sixth senses.
All that given, I sure hope Whitedove is one with such a gift. Since I just found her site via the link above, I’ll read around her site. BTW, I hope me posting this doesn’t make me sound like some nutty one who spends all of his money on psychic hotlines, LOL…I’m sure and Obamatron would warp it into such.

I have found in the early polls that how a candidate does depends on the lead in or mood questions the poller asks.
If there are alot of questions about patriotism and experience McCain Polls better.
If race and age are focus of the poll then Obama polls better.
But the numbers are alway in the margin of error…I do not believe this is good news for Team Obama. If he expects to win in November he has to be way out in front by Labor Day or the fall will be nothing but chipping away at his numbers by Team McCain.

We all know that SM and RD came up with it because we were here to witness it, but at some point I believe we have to let it go. Who came up with the idea is not the point. The point is that it has a life of its own now, and no one can control it.
The conditions that gave rise to PUMA would have given rise to the same thing with a different name if SM hadn’t said it. This isn’t a top down marketing campaign it is a grass roots movement. If you try to keep strict control of the message, you will kill the grassroots, democratic, emergence of the thing.
Bower hasn’t said anything so offbase at this point for me to lump him in with any Republican dirty tricks people, and there are more people than just him that are hitting the airwaves, so I believe even if he did say something questionable there are other people to balance it out.

Firstly, yes, it was originally told to me that DJ Kelsey had created the acronym. At that time I had not heard of SM, so I had no reason to disbelieve that. It’s now looking more and more clear to me that it did indeed originate here, and with SM.
(I’m still leaving room to believe that DJ might have had a “Great Minds Think Alike” moment with SM, but, for now, I’m keeping it simple and agree that it does indeed look like it started here with SM.)
As for me being the “founder”… I’ve told every journalist who will listen that I am *a* *co* founder to the cause. I have never once said *the*…. and I have never once left out the “co-“. Wherever you read differently, I can assure you that it was the journalist’s decision to report it differently.
My Iq: In every single interview I’ve given thus far, I am *always* asked the “What if Obama picks Clinton as his Veep” question. When I say that I would prefer a McCain/Clinton ticket, it’s to highlight that I would much *prefer* that to an Obama/Clinton ticket. It also keeps me out of the weeds in terms of speaking for many voters who *do* want an Obama/Clinton ticket. It’s a question they continue to try to trip me up with, and I’m answering it to the best of my abilities.

What Boston, and myself & other Conflucian PUMAs want to see is that the PUMA original message is kept, which is inherently tied in the PUMA birth here at the Confluence. You’ve read Riverdaughter’s PUMA Un-Party & PUMA Power manisfestos. That’s the PUMA “Declaration of Independence & Bill of Rights,” IMO.

CaseyOR, I’m pretty far down the thread now, but in regards to your question about the support in Oregon for Gordon Smith, it is anomolous, isn’t it?
He’s never been *perceived* as a hard right winger (like Dennis Richardson and his ilk), but somehow seems to be appealing enough to that wing of the party. He’s also been very successful at painting himself a sort of post-partisan Republican, even before he came out against the war.
I live down here in the red end of the state, and with regular not-hyper-political folks around here he’s almost a wash in terms of public perception – neither liberal nor conservative – and he certainly looks like the Senator sent over from Central Casting. And he’s rich and raises money like nobody’s business.
He’s the last Republican in the Senate from the west coast! I imagine he’ll still be there after Nov. too, sad to say. I’ll be rooting for Merkley (I was a Novick supporter in the primaries, though), and I’ll do what I can with canvassing and calling and whatever, but I just can’t see it happening that he beats Smith.

I, too, was a Novick supporter. I still think he had the better chance against Smith, but Chuck Shumer and the DSCC thought otherwise.

It really troubles me that you won’t tell me who this DJ person is or link to his blog or page or whatever you are talking about. I didn’t say this person was trying to take credit from someone. How could I? I have no clue who he is. I’ve only heard about him from you.

Gordon Smith did give an emotional speech against the war, but he didn’t do it until after the 2006 midterm election. Before that he was a big war cheerleader. And I question the timing. i think he realized he might have a tough re=election bid and modified his stance to be more in line with Oregonians. He is not a friend.

If I’m not saying all that much about DJ, it’s because he’s wanting to keep a low profile. He’s not in a position where he can have his status as a PUMA well-known.
However, if you contact me directly (and give me a way of knowing that it’s really you, since who knows who’s reading this board), I’ll try to put you in contact with him yourself, so that you can further explore his role in all of this.
I want to help all parties involved understand as much of all of this as I can! It’s important to me that we get our history right!

okay here are the details:
Unity NH, Unity Elementary School, 6/27/08, 12:00
Unity is right off of I91 which makes it a reasonable trip from Springfield MA, Boston Ma, Hartford CT, Albany NY, and of course parts of NH and VT. You can map quest it and simply put in Unity Elementary School in place of “business” Unity is a town of only 1,700 so I doubt that there will be a crowd of 10,000. A couple hundred Puma’s would make the news and the place will be crawling with national media because this the first appearance of Hillary and Obama together. If only handful of us show up it will be dismissed, no doubt, as those disgruntled people, but if a few hundred show up……….
So who’s up for this? Bring a pair of flip flops.
