PUMAs on the Loose: Open thread

puma idHoly Hemiola! We got some serious attention today, didn’t we? First, Salon’s tagged teamed Rebecca Traister and Walter Shapiro against us. Shapiro was especially offensive with his bad boyfriend, “Where else are you going to go?” Downright creepy. Then HuffingtonPost got into the act with Will Bower (By the way, Will, our PUMA posts are time stamped. Just sayin’) Even Big Tent Democrat got into the act. But what was amazing was the sheer number of people who were fed up with the way this primary season has been going and thought it was time to take action against the DNC. If the comments I read today were any indication, the PUMA message of “It’s my vote, you’ve got to earn it” has a lot of followers.

So, keep spreading the word. A lot could happen in 2 months.

Like, Obama could drop his “Eagle-as-target-practice” pretentious, presumptuous presidential seal.

This is an open thread.

  1. How many reversals were there this week? Iraq, NAFTA, public financing, and FISA. Now the Third Reichian faux presidential seal. Yea, this guy really knows what he’s doing…

  2. You always know when you hit a nerve, the Obamabots come out in force. It reminds me of the Dalak’s (sp?) in Doctor Who (Ok, I’m a Sci-Fi nut). If anyone has ever seen Dr. Who, the Dalak’s are robots with one goal in mind, to exterminate those who oppose their master. They yell “Exterminate!” in their robot voices whenever they see an enemy, and then they try to blast them with their ray guns. They’re lousy shots for robots, though…they usually miss, just like the Obamabots.

  3. Ain’t gonna happen here. I was a PUMA back before it was cool. 🙂

The Republicans disenfranchised one state. The Obamacans, two. If we don’t smack them down hard, we’ll never have another straight election. Four years of a cranky, pissy, dickhead/war hero is a fair trade to make sure we have at least one party that thinks twice before flushing the Constitution down the toilet.

  4. The Great Seal of Obama is already retired, per announcement today.

  5. The official seal of the great one is now gone. They said that the seal was just for one event on Friday.

Let’s take a poll: who believes that?

  6. Also, I have been advised that my ¡Si, soy PUMA! sig line at TalkLeft violates site standards, in that it constitutes “shilling for PUMA”.

  7. More PUMAs in the news. Murphy of PUMA Pac was interviewed. The vid on the page should automatically play.

  8. RonK — that’s too bad. I loved seeing your sig there! Oh, well. I’m not likely to go back there anytime soon.

  9. Hmmmm, I really would have my doubts about any puma-types toeing the ol’ party line round here…

I grew up wearing Susie Tompkins designs…glad to see who she was behind. m’self.

Many, many things will be going the way of all things ala boycott, I expect. Brand allegiances and so forth.

It must be radically difficult for the prozac set to see, reality?
    hugs RD & Co…

I had a screenwriter by chez moi, and also shakespeare’s kin. Funny.

  10. Wow, Murphy has made the news. NE Cable covers all of the New England states and parts of upper New York. She is making inroads!

  11. anybody saw the whole Obama’s & working women thingy today?

I have to say he is really bad in the small group setting town hall meeting type. McCain is much better in the small settings. I liked listening to McCain today in the energy town hall in Ca

  12. vbonnaire,

You reminded me: They announced a Bruce Springsteen Concert while I was driving home. And I called mister to tell him.

    (sigh)

He reminded me that we hate Bruce now. (blinking fast) It’s unbelievable, like a part of me has died. I’ve loved Bruce Springsteen since the mid 1970s but I can’t bear to go to his concert have be told to vote for Obama.

  13. Katiebird, i stopped listening to my NPR radio

  14. Feels good to be single again !!! Slinking around like a proud pussy cat !! Meow !!

I am sad Hillary had to break it off, but I know she still loves me. She’ll be back – we’ll be together again.

  15. I don’t like when history gets foggy so I posted a primer at my blog
    about the beginning of PUMA
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/06/24/how-puma-got-started/
I posted at Huffy Pot as well – but who knows where my post will end up?

  16. Oh, Jonas8 — me too. I really quit after they got embedded during Shock and Awe. The 3rd or 4th time they reported finding “weapons of mass destruction” I just turned it off.

I just started listening to an oldies station that’s not too bad. No news.

  17. Fish, your post so rocks! You nailed it, you single bad cat you!

  18. […] I know that checks can be sent this way The address to mail a check to is: Hillary Clinton for President 4420 North Fairfax Drive Arlington, VA 22203 Headquarters: 703.469.2008 Fax: 703.962.8600 but I can’t say for sure where those will end up either. Update I had to add this fabulous commentary at Riverdaugter’s […]

  19. Can anyone remember when we were all happy and secure knowing that Senator Clinton was going to be the next President of the United States, and we could get some rest knowing the world was in good hands?

I feel physically ill on a daily basis.

I want President Hillary Rodham Clinton 2008

  20. I keep saying Obama is the Bush of the DNC, in every single way, right down to the “mission accomplished costume”. In Obama’s case it was the Possum seal
LOL- Oh my God, I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw him.
He already fancies himself President! I bet he has Michelle and the kids play Hail to the Chief whenever he comes home.

  21. What did I say wrong? I’m in moderation….

  22. They are really getting down over at No Quarter. I was quoted over there this morning. I probably need someone to start my car from now on.

    Go Hillary.

  23. Or a food taster.

  24. edgeoforever — If you’re doing history, try to get the fisst write right. P.U.M.A. originated in a comment here June 1 (or at least it was June 1 in my time zone), and went viral from there.

  25. With Hillary practically out of the race the enthusiasm is lagging. No excitement. No fanfare. Just a big blah. And neither one of the remaining beauties has my interest and never will. Yuck!

  26. Link to Murphy’s interview! There ar etwo versions, this one and the one posted at blog.pumapac.org

    http://www.necn.com/Boston/Politics/Obama-Clinton-might-not-find-united-party/1214269996.html

  27. Here are a few excerpts from my own response to Rebecca Traister’s piece…

Like the knife-thrower’s assistant, Traister misses the point — again and again, and always just barely.

Point 1: It’s the gent, not the genitalia. Traister defines the anti-Obama phenomenon purely in terms of “ladies who love Hillary too much.” Sisterhood is powerful: Hence, the PUMAs. It’s a menopause thing, or so sayeth Traister.

Bullsh*t, sayeth I. Larry Johnson owns testicles, as does your humble narrator, as do a lot of other folk in PUMA-land. This is not a girls-only club. This is not about estrogen solidarity. In the end, this is not even about Hillary Clinton.

It’s about Obama. He’s just not the right guy. He’s not even the ACCEPTABLE guy.

Point 2: It’s the blogs, stupid! For some bizarre reason, the online world receives bare mention in Traister’s piece. Rebecca notices the carnage in her living room, but she can’t see the big gray peanut-eater named Stompy.

Wanna know how PUMA began, Becky? Hit the wayback machine and read the daily spew from Kos, TPM and Democratic Underground throughout the months of February, March, April and May. If that exercise doesn’t inform you of the central role played by the blogs, then you must be so stupid that you need an instructional video to teach you how to pour milk on corn flakes.

  28. you know hillary sent out the puma signal yesterday at pelham prep, don’t you? watch the video, and check out the seal on HER podium. here is a blurry screencap from the video, but you get the idea.

    quick, robin, to the pumamobile!

  29. Nite, Nite.

I have to go and start dreaming of a better America and a better world – starring President Hillary Rodham Clinton, her side kick President William Jefferson Clinton, and our future Presidential candidate Chelsea.

I’ll let you know tomorrow who the VP is. And, where BO and MO are cleaning toilets.

  30. oh damn. that link is tricky in these parts of the internets.

  31. SM’s original PUMA comment, 3:39pm June 1, 2008

Augie, first to chime in, two minutes later.

rd frontpages The PUMA Party is born, June 1, 4:26pm (almost immediately amended as the PUMA un-Party).

  32. Murphy was great!

  33. http://dakiniland.wordpress.com/2008/06/23/talk-about-your-quick-change-possum-seal-road-kill/

the link to the announcement is on my webpage …

so i’m thinking if they’re calling us Pumateers, I’m going to call them possum scouts and consider them working on their possum badges per orders of the Great Possum in their lodge meetings …

just like barney and fred have the waterbuffalos lodge

  34. Here is SM’s original comment about PUMA from 6/1/08:

    HORRAY FOR HILLARY!!

    Thank you Puerto Rico!

I am making an announcement. I am now a member of the PUMA party.

Rico, give everybody a round of Barcadi & Coke on me!

  35. I agree with everyone, all the news is so boring now that Hillary is out of the race. Everyone gave baby ducklling (everything just bounces off his back like water), all the credit for all the excitement during the primaries. Well, he’s THE ONE now. Where is all that excitement. You almost see the news reporters yawn and trying to stay awake while they’re reporting the boring crap on McCain or baby Ducky. MO was in B’ham, AL to day for a private fundraiser. $1000.00 deal per person. Shit, if I had that kind of money laying around, I’d be saving it to put in my vehicle or put groceries on the table, not give it to the loser. No way no how.

  36. New Oregon Poll Numbers: SUSA-KATU-TV released a new poll conducted 6/17-6/19.

    Obama 48%

    McCain 45%

    Undec. 7%

The margin of error is 4%.

I know it is only June, but everyone has been assuming that Oregon will be a lock for Obama. Maybe not.

  37. well, I live in Birmingham and I didn’t even know she was here. that’s how much excitement that generated.

  38. The collective unconscious will prevail.

Imagine Hillary on the steps of the Capitol taking the oath of office. I see her hat. Another woman sees her wearing red.

There is no Obama in sight.

I hold that image very strongly, and I am not in the least inclined to Obama-like cultish practices. In fact, when I started investigating the candidates for the primary, Obama was the one being sold, Hillary was being trashed in the same old right-wing way by the “new” Dems like Kos and Arianna (but I always admired Hillary and was impressed with her record as a Senator), and Edwards was just too one-note Mill Worker’s son without a second term in the Senate.

The Axelrod speeches sent up all kinds of red flags (but I admit that Deval Patrick delivered them better, but then I get a sense of integrity from him).

When I tuned into Hillary taking questions, I was blown away. There was no going back to the mediocre ones.

I have been involved in politics since my first memories (as a result of my mother’s passion), but Hillary is the first Presidential candidate (other than Bill, and I had a few reservations about Bill until I saw his political brilliance in the face of the altered Republican Party) with whom I have ever been completely enthralled. She’s the real thing.

  39. I remember well when SM introduced PUMA. I keep wondering who this guy is who seems to be taking credit.

  40. It started with SM. Murphy created a PAC. I really have no idea of how Bowers got into it.

  41. Well, throwing his possum seal under the bus is just the latest example of his change message – change his mind, that is, to pander to whatever audience he’s addressing. Heat about the seal? No problemo, under the bus it goes.

Of course, there is another kind of change he’s all about – he wants our change. He prefers the paper kind but he’ll take whatever he can get. He’s already spilled the beans that he wants our $ more than our votes. LOL

  42. Yes Kiki! WE DID IT HERE, on the Confluence! RonK and the FABULOUS DIVA OF DIVAS, Miss Riverdaughter – wow & thanks to YOU, my homegirl! If I’m ever in Southern NJ, I must buy you some Rico PUMA cocktails!

PUMA is only 23 days old!

Guess what? F_ck Rebecca Traister’s article! She doesn’t know a DAMN thing about PUMAs. Rebecca sounds like a wannabe-MoDo.

    WE ARE NOT GIVING IN.

I still don’t know who I’m voting for, and guess what? I DON’T FRIGGIN CARE.

Like Pat Johnson said in some blog that my wine induced memory can’t remember: we are like cockroaches, we have adapted to survival these past 8 years, we can survive 4 more under a Republican administration.

But what we cannot stand for is to see our party take our values of “one person/one vote” to be CHEATED AND STOLEN just because they want a guy they can manipulate.

F_ck them. PUMA ALL THE WAY TO NOVEMBER!

  43. Joseph Cannon:

Great job. I’m happy you actually take the time to educate the likes of Rebecca Traister about the Hillary supporters and the PUMA coalition. It’s a very diverse group but I know people desperately want to turn all of us into post menopausal white women.

  44. Wow, Murphy was great! I just contributed-She’s organizing and getting PUMA message out. Lets all throw something in the tin to help out with her ads.

  45. campskunk — That is priceless!!!

Speaking of priceless, Friday’s Clinton/Obama “Unite for Change” event is set for Unity, NH. Now, where does our countermovement convene?

Puma Spring, NM, north of I-10 a little west of Las Cruces, in a high-poverty, high-minority House district that has been in Republican hands forever (NM-02)?

The Puma Creek Recreational Site, east of Eugene, OR?

There are others in Utah, Colorado and Montana, but these seem the most promising.

  46. Murphy is the real deal – God bless her.

  47. Joseph Cannon – exactly & LOVE YOUR BLOG!

PUMA all started after the RBC ruling – VOTE STEALING AND CHEATING to seat a man who has zero experience, zero qualifications, zero character – for what?

    Clinton Envy.

  48. Big Tent Democrat is an idiot. He was an Idiot when he was Armando and Kos gave him the sack. He continued being an Idiot at Swords Crossed a hideous blog whose demise is not mourned.

It was only when he hooked up with the enabling Jeralyn that anybody stated paying attention to him.

Most annoyingly he’s from the ‘Bonehead’ Bowers camp. These ‘creative class’ sycophants cannot quite figure out why they luvs them some Barkey ….

But they surely do love him.

  49. Who are these obnoxious people who don’t like to be under the bus, although they were thrown there by The Awesome One himself?

Muslim Voters Detect a Snub From Obama

    ( … )

The strained relationship between Muslims and Mr. Obama reflects one of the central challenges facing the senator: how to maintain a broad electoral appeal without alienating any of the numerous constituencies he needs to win in November.

After the episode in Detroit last week, Mr. Obama telephoned the two Muslim women to apologize. “I take deepest offense to and will continue to fight against discrimination against people of any religious group or background,” he said in a statement.

Such gestures have fallen short in the eyes of many Muslim leaders, who say the Detroit incident and others illustrate a disconnect between Mr. Obama’s message of unity and his campaign strategy.

“The community feels betrayed,” said Safiya Ghori, the government relations director in the Washington office of the Muslim Public Affairs Council.

Even some of Mr. Obama’s strongest Muslim supporters say they are uncomfortable with the forceful denials he has made in response to rumors that he is secretly a Muslim.

Let’s look around us here: White women, whole States such as MI and FL, entire Appalachia, “old” whites, Muslims, the Obama presidential seal… It’s getting very crowded here.

  50. Bought a PUMA- T-Shirts on Murphy’s site. They seem really nice. Maybe I’ll show up wearing them whenever Hillary and Obama appear together. My way of saying- NO DEAL!

  51. So the seal went under the bus? Too bad, it cracked me up. Hail Freediona!

  52. Hey there, Pat.

I’ve not once claimed to have created the PUMA acronym. I’ve told every reporter who has ever asked me that the acronym was brought to my attention from the blogosphere in my role as an administrator on FaceBook’s largest Hillary board.

My role and goal was originally to spread the PUMA cause all over FaceBook, and beyond. It was that effort that got the attention of certain journalists… whose articles then got the attention of certain media outlets… who then asked for me to speak on behalf of the PUMA voter… which I accepted.

Until someone can find an earlier reference than SM’s “P U M A”, I’m more than happy to acknowledge that the first cry for “P U M A” came from here… and, in fact, I have told many a journalist exactly that. I’m learning, however, that I have very little control of what these journalists end up writing.

So, SM, I invite you to be as involved with all of this as you would like to be. Feel free to contact me and let me know. From what little experience I have of you all here, I think I would be more than happy to work with you on any number of levels.

Thanks once more for your time,

    Your fellow PUMA,

    Will

  53. My take on BTD/Armando is that he KNOWS Hillary is the best one, but he’s still loyal to “Markos” so he must push the “Obama” agenda.

Both Markos and Armando are Latinos, as I am. They know, as much as I know, that Obama has ZERO interest in our community. But we Latinos are many colors and of many ideologies, but I don’t agree with either Armando or Markos. What differentiates us is that I’m a woman, they are men. Is it Latino “machismo” thing? I’m not sure but it could be.

Armando is MUCH better at looking at both sides of the story, that I can say.

  54. It’s sooo crowded and hot, I brought a fan!!!! We need to make room for others. It’s going to be a long hot summer under here!!!

  55. this damn bus is gonna be jacked up higher than a monster truck if obama keeps throwing more people under here with us.

maybe we’ll establish a hierarchy – obama threw MY family under the bus LOOOONG before these johnny-come-latelies.

  56. Will, did you notice that some of us here went to the HuffPo blog today regarding the article they did with you? It was up to over 400 by around 8pm tonight. Attracted a lot of like minded people who have normally been stifled over there.

Naturally there were those who support You Know Who that chimed in but the article did attract a lot of attention. PUMA is a movement in and of itself. We just need to keep it out there.

  57. we should use that old queen song:

Another one under the bus, hey
another one under the bus, hey, hey

  58. last time i looked on huffpoop, my comment had been sitting in moderation purgatory for about 5 hours.

  59. with markos it might be a machismo thing

  60. When people say Puma’s will come back,….I wonder how are they going to get Bambie more experience?
Because that ‘s a big part of the problem . How are they going to undo the disgusting cheating? Because that is a huge part of the problem. They think it’s about Hillary. But it’s not just about Hillary , so just Hillary cannot heal it . I also feel it’s about the Dem congress caving in to the GOP for years. They insist we have to give them our vote. But why?? So they can cave in faster??

What have they done with our 06 vote? The DC Dems have spat in our faces for years . If we keep rewarding these people with votes they do nothing to earn, we will never be respected .

Enough . I’m not coming back to this crew .

  61. You must not have had enough “worship” words contained in your post.

  62. Will, I am very proud of the work you are doing!!!! You are the voice of PUMAs in the media!!!! THANK YOU!

I am honored and thrilled and humbled that 4 words that I spoke in revelry for PR and rage at the RBC, grew into this – in 23 days!!!!! WOW!

I don’t know how much I can be of help – I am a single mom, Latina, middle/lower income earner, Hillary supporter- that’s me. Nobody would listen to me as much as they’d listen to you, that is the country we live in, unfortunately. But knowing this, I know that you will take what Riverdaughther wrote, what we all feel here, what Murphy is doing at PUMApac to the masses.

What I would like to see is this:

Remind the MSM that the Democratic party CHEATED AND STOLE VOTES from Michigan and Florida at the RBC meeting on May 31st. Votes were stolen – Obama was awarded votes that were for other candidates. Florida got 1/2 status while other states who commited the same grievances – got their 100% “waiver.”

THAT’s the rage and fury behind PUMA. VOTES WERE STOLEN and the DNC CHEATED to help Obama cross the line. We all saw it on LIVE TV.

We, as lifelong Democrats, cannot and WILL NOT stand for it.

Will, thank you and again, THANK YOU!!!!

  63. Who else is creeped out by this “Unity and Change” joint appearance by Hillary and Obama? I hope she OUTSHINES him, bigtime.

But, I hope she doesn’t do this for the next 6 months. I think I would throw up. I don’t want her to allow herself to be used by this guy, to enable the very creep who gave her the “street” finger.

  64. Thank you Will.

I appreciate all you and your group are doing in getting PUMA’s message out. It doesn’t really matter much to me who gets the credit, as long as our voices are heard. I am happy for any publicity generated. It has been a terrible year having to endure the press and most talking heads in the tank for Obama- simply awful, a complete echo chamber that has left many of us reeling. So I am grateful to anyone who goes out there and exposes the DNC and the so called “Dem strategists” that keep saying we are just a fringe group, and how most of us will all “get over it” and be one big happy family come November. Keep up the good work !

    PUMA!

  65. To CB and All:
I catch your drift about the collective unconscious, as I prepare to retire for the evening, and hope for pleasant dreams. Along that vein, at least for entertainment value, I can re-post a link to Michele Whitedove, the lady voted America’s #1 Psychic by Lifetime TV.
    http://www.michellewhitedove.com/Blog-%20TheDemocraticIllusionJune2008.php
Read her June 7th blog, and all previous ones Re: the 2008 Election. She says what we’re seeing is a Grand Illusion of sorts, and psychically sees: Obama will falter, scandals emerge, MSM will even do a beat down on him (if you can imagine that!), Hillary will unsuspend, SD’s will switch, they duke it out for the nomination in Denver, and she will be POTUS #44. Pretty curious stuff. Check it out, and think of it as a daily meditation or visualization on the future.

I believe the outcome of the paying down the debt discussions between BO and HRC camps, and the meeting with big Hill donors on Thursday will be very telling. Why don’t her donors take care of her debt first? Heard she’d discount her own ~$12 million loan, so it won’t be as much (more like $10 mill). Obama can encourage his donors to go to Hillary Clinton.com, but hope there’s not a “deal” so she can remain independent of him, should circumstances allow her to unsuspend. They can campaign together in Unity, NH on Friday, but if more stuff comes out on/from Obama, forget unity.

Just given the latest flip flops and pronouncements, if the trend line continues, I don’t know how BO can prevail through August. Do you?

Pleasant dreams to all, and to all a good night. I expect a PUMA* in one of mine any evening now, and will have to figure out how to interpret it. You are a blessing to share.

*(Reminds me of an old Smothers Brothers comedy routine about pumas in a cravass that we memorized as kids…you all are probably too young to remember…)

  66. okay, i hate to do this, i don’t link to the huffpoop site much but here:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lester-feder/the-myth-of-hillary-clint_b_108660.html

  67. What cracks me up is that they will allow the “f” bomb through the portals but hold back any comments that they may find “offensive” toward Obama.

Looking forward to the day that tell us we must address him as Dear Leader.

  68. I miss Hillary. I miss the campaign. But it is a high to sign my name and add PUMA and get the reaction that follows. You might as well take a stick and poke it in Obama supporter’s eyes.

    They’re a little worried.

  69. Pat Johnson, to answer your question from down below as to how I’m in the know…a good part of it was my idea. 🙂

  70. However, the evidence suggests Obama’s main problem with Clinton voters has little to do with gender. Perhaps that’s why Traister is resorting to such cheap — and, frankly, demeaning — rhetoric

here’s a selection from that story

  71. So a friend of mine sent me an article from Salon in 2004 by Donna “Grendel” Brazile. Turns out that he didn’t get the nod from her and Coward Dean because they think he’s so incredible. He’s Greg Brady as Johnny Bravo; he fit the suit.

    http://ohmyvalve.blogspot.com/

  72. y eah, the just let my thank you finally some is listening thru like lightening

my 10 reasons why i won’t vote for obama got deleted

  73. I think it’s cheesy to go to a town named ” Unity.” …what the hell? I think whoever came up with the the BO seal, came up with that idea too.

Hill has to be very careful how she handles these appearances. Hill , please don’t go down with the Obama ship of fools .

  74. Annetoo: VERY CHEESY. Must be from the Obama people who thought up the “Possum” seal.

PS: PUMAs eat possums for snacks!

  75. Which side were you own?

In Things We Can Do from alegrescorner.soapbox.net/

    # 5. Mail and email those politicians who stood staunchly behind HRC to let them know we thank them and that they have our support. Find out here:

    http://www.congress.org/congressorg/Superdelegates.tt

The Sydney Daily Herald ran a photo of Obama and his great seal:

“Possums” — as in “Goodbye Possums” — is Aussie slang, esp., as
promoted by Dame Edna, for “folks.”

  76. SM — *Thank* you for your words!

Just so you know, Just Say NO DEAL is trying to help organize Latino PUMAs, and it sounds as if you, SM, might be a *great* person to get involved in that effort! Again, please contact me if you are at all interested in this. We’d love to have you.

And, yep, Pat and Denise, I’ve seen all the support I’ve been getting from you all over at HuffPo! I can’t tell you how much it means to know that you all have my back! That is something I very much need and appreciate these days! It can get vicious out there! 🙂

  77. shtuey!!!

    JOHNNY BRAVO!!!! Brady Bunch!

    LOL!!!

Yeah, he fits the suit! OMG. That is awful/funny.

  78. I hate to even think about HRC in the same room with this fraud, debt or no, promises to campaign or not. I loved seeing the film footage where she attended the graduation, a supporter’s daughter, as promised. Of course, she caught a media blitz because she didn’t mention the Great One’s name. Pule-e-ze. Talk about ego gone off the deep end!

There does seem to be a lot of troll activity again. Obamatrons had a very bad week–the Nafta wiggle, the Great Seal debacle, Larry Sinclair, public financing and the telecom sellout. Even when you’re on the kool-aide that’s hard to “conceptualize.” But there’s a frantic edge to the posts like they’re expecting a bomb to drop any moment [we can only hope :0)].

The more the trolls keep saying PUMA is ridiculous, the more the buzz. That can only be good news. And I read that the umbrella organization, Just Say No Deal, has gone from 80 sites/organizations to over 200 as of last week.

I agree, the numbers are growing. It ain’t over yet!

  79. WIll, I know MANY LATINOS – despite what the Gallup polls say, are not voting for Obama.

John McCain has a good repoire with Immigration issues – which is why some Republicans hate him. Hillary co-wrote the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill which he endorsed, and we remember that.

Should I go to the Just Say No Deal site and get your email?

  80. SM, what’s not to love about an obscure Johnny Bravo reference?

  81. SM, I’m pretty sure that when they polled Latinos they polled three, and counted Bill Richardson twice (his beard was the third).

  82. Hello everyone– I created two 4th of July fund raising videos:

    1. Short version- call to action- made esp. for Heidi Li

    2. Extended version with musical extra:

    Enjoy. 🙂

Don’t forget to comment on the video, rate the video and mark it a favorite on you tube.

    Thanks.

  83. geeklove; excellent work as usual!

  84. “sm”
Link to their site & “click” media.
I would go with Cristi, I’ve dealt with her & she (like I’m sure all of them are) is really nice!

  85. shtuey, they counted and multiplied Bill Richardson’s double chin (hidden by the beard) for the Gallup.

Priceless with the Johnny Bravo metaphor! SO SO true!

I doubt that Obama will have enough integrity as Greg Brady though. Sad.

  86. shtuey, on June 24th, 2008 at 12:23 am

Thanks. Hope it motivates people to donate.

  87. RD riled them up at LeftCoaster.

Some people can’t handle the truth.

  88. tpt/ny: If Kos didn’t want a “spineless democrat” why didn’t he support Hillary? He’s a sellout $$$$ joke. Whatever credibility he had is GONE FOR GOOD.

    TPT/NY: I will, Thanks!

Myiq2xu: oooh!!! Gotta go there & read it – I loves me some Riverdaughter tell-offs!

  89. Hmm. If Obama plans to redecorate the WH the way Greg decorated Mr. Brady’s office, I may have to consider voting for him. That was groovy.

  90. Your welcome “sm” !
By the way I bought a shirt in NC ” Hillary Clinton / A
Democrat with a Spine” ! It has “H’s” linked like a spine down the back ! I treasure it !!
    Rise Hillary Rise !!
Looking forward to hearing how it goes!!

  91. “Seriously”
That’s what the “Change” in MA Obama’s “buddy” & proto campaign, Deval Patrick did!!

  92. “If Kos didn’t want a “spineless democrat” why didn’t he support Hillary”

Since the day Obama took office, all they’ve done over there is complain about what a disappointment these guys (Obama, and Salazar was in the Class of ’04 too, right?) have been and how spineless they’ve been. They knew exactly what they were getting, unless they decided that running against Clinton would somehow make Obama courageous or principled.

  93. You’re welcome – I’m on a good cheap wine buzz right now – not doing well on the contacting people thing.

Riverdaughter TOLD THEM on Left Coaster!!!

  94. Didn’t get past your first link w/o having to go to the Salon site to leave a response… (thanks for the heads up!).

This PUMA… a college educated woman from a mixed race family who lives in an upscale liberal area… will not be voting for Obama because I find him to be exceptionally unqualified for our country’s highest office.

It has nothing to with Hillary Clinton “losing”, though there are many of us who as a side issue are also extremely concerned that the Democratic Party leadership chose to conduct the primary process so undemocratically and so “fixed” a win for an unqualified candidate. We shall see what happens in Denver and if the trend continues it will likely prompt many of us to leave the Democratic Party forever. This however is a side issue, the main reason I won’t vote for Obama is that he is unqualified.

My not supporting Obama also has nothing to do with an historic opportunity having passed. It hasn’t. If anything the door is open wider now than it ever has been. I’d be just as happy to have the historic event this year be the election of the first black president but that can’t be the only qualification… the candidate has to be a truly viable candidate and I simply feel that Obama is not even close to that at this point as a first term Senator with little experience and questionable connections and judgement.

I, for one, would also be EXTREMELY disappointed if Hillary did run as Obama’s Vice President… even if she is the VP on the ticket I won’t vote for Obama.

The sexism you mention is a very real issue but it is a side issue, it is not the main reason we PUMAs are not supporting Obama. It is a reason that we are outraged at many of the main stream media outlets and another beef we have with the conduct of the DNC leadership this year… But it is not the main reason that this PUMA does not support Obama, the main reason is that I don’t find him to be a viable presidential candidate.

And the “Roe v. Wade” we’re being held hostage by our reproductive rights issue is not the issue either. As far as I’m concerned it is not an issue at all. This is settled law, as settled as Miranda rights, de-segregation, Title IX, etc. I no more forsee reproductive rights being taken away after over 30 years than I see a return to segregated schools and no girls sports teams etc. The reason this PUMA is not supporting Obama is…

Yep… he is not a qualified candidate for the President of the United States as far as I’m concerned and the more I learn about him the firmer I am in my conviction. I began the year on the fence and open to learning why I could support him… I have learned vastly more over the course of the last few months and it has solidified my resolve… Obama will never be a candidate that I will vote for due to his lack of experience, bad judgement, hubris, and old-style Chicago Combine politics. Period. Bad candidate = NO VOTE.

  95. tpt, he only changed the drapes, no disco balls or lava lamps or floor pillows. No conversation pit.

  96. Seriously, this is all CLINTON ENVY.

The DNC is FULL of losers, and they are MAD that they can’t break The Clinton Code. You’d think that the party “elite” would figure it out after all this time.

CONNECT WITH YOUR BASE, the everyday people who NEED Universal Healthcare, the foreclosed homeowner, the single mom struggling to choose between gas or food, there are so many of us – a big diverse group of people who have been betrayed YET AGAIN by our party.

We chose a fighter, they imposed on us a yellow-bellied loser. Again. F_ck them.

    I’m a PUMA Cockroach. I’ll survive.

People, I must go to bed, I love you all & see you soon at the Confluence!

  97. Seriously in re-reading your response I’m un-clear where you stand.
    Whatever !
    Thanks for the “clarification”!
    Good Nite All!!

  98. It is amazing that Oregon is so close. Oregon will be a swing state this time.

  99. “Seriously, this is all CLINTON ENVY.”

Not all of it, some of it is misogyny. I don’t feel like Bill got it this bad, bad but not this bad from the party itself. It’s a mixture of both.

  100. Digby considered Rove’s statement here as code for “uppity negro”.

“Even if you never met him, you know this guy,” Rove said, per Christianne Klein. “He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by.”

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/06/rove-obamas-the.html

Why is it that everytime someone says Obama is an elitist, some people think it’s racist code.Too bad Kerry wasn’t AA. He could have used that excuse too.

I’m not a racist. I think Obama is the man Rove described. And I know of plenty of white men who fit that description as well.

    Racist, indeed.

  101. SM,

    xoxo from Puma PAC

and xoxo to riverdaughter, patjohnson, bostonboomer, vbonnierre, katiebird, prolix, teresa and all the great ones here.

Will, you will find good friends at the confluence, as you know.

SM — I hope you noticed that our site will be bilingual soon, spanish and english!

Why is it that all the HRC supporters are so damn NICE, and all the other guys are so damn, well — you know.

    coincidence?

  102. tpt, not real sure what you’re getting at, but see, Greg decorated Mr. Brady’s office with lava lamps, floor pillows, disco balls, and a conversation pit. Deval only changed the drapes, so if Obama wants to go full on Johnny Bravo, he needs to step up the Brady style a bit. That’s what I meant.

ALforHill: You mean you didn’t venture over to Mountain Brook to join the elite in B’ham to break bread with Michelle? 😉

LOL! Like it’s gonna help carry him in Alabama…

  104. PUMA here PUMA there PUMA PUMA everywhere.

    NoDeal!

Plan A Hillary, Plan B McCain.

  105. There’s no such thing as bad publicity, especially when it gets people who have never heard of it become curious about PUMA.

  106. “New Oregon Poll Numbers: SUSA-KATU-TV released a new poll conducted 6/17-6/19.
    Obama 48%
    McCain 45%
    Undec. 7%
The margin of error is 4%.”

If this poll is accurate this is the first bell tolling. A very, very bad sign for “the annointed one.”

  107. Re: the comments about BTD. I too am baffled and, frankly, pissed. For months BTD pushed and massaged and promoted the callow, underqualified Obama only because Obama seemed most likely to “inspire” a media man-crush. Only after the RBC’s disgusting sleight of vote, which made Obama the presumptive nominee, did BTD admit that Clinton was the better candidate. I appreciate his admission of error, as well as his spirited defenses of Hillary Clinton when TL commenters diss her. But still.

  108. kjmontana-

The Oregon poll is a SUSA poll, and SUSA did pretty good polling during the primaries. This isn’t a Zogby poll. I’m a little surprised it is this tight right now. We have a very big Senate race here in Oregon. We are trying to finally get rid of Gordon Smith. A lot of folks thought this was the year to replace Smith with a good Democrat, Jeff Merkley. This poll cannot be good news to Merkley’s campaign.

Anybody remember all the hoopla over that big Obama rally on the Portland waterfront last month? The one with 75,000 people? Some of us thought the huge turnout had more to do with good weather and free bands. Maybe we were right.

  109. Also from Oregon here…..

I think the new poll isn’t particularly good for Merkley either, but I think unseating Gordon Smith was always going to be a long shot. He’s just got so damn much money.

Interesting about the new numbers regarding McCain and Obama, though. I have been assuming for quite some time that Oregon was no longer a swing state. Prematurely, perhaps.

  110. Susan M-

Given how unsuccessful Oregon Republicans, except for Smith, are when it comes to winning statewide elections, I don’t understand why these numbers are so close. Especially since the primary, which Obama won, was only a month ago.

And, honestly, I do not understand the hold Gordon has on this state. I am stunned by some of the people supporting him. Have you seen the Smith TV ad with Elizabeth Furse and Avel Gordly? i don’t see the draw. Do you?

  111. Liberty Belle! I’m so glad you mentioned the Smothers Brothers…

  112. Oregon folk, wasn’t it Smith who emotionally turned on the war in the Senate? It’s the only time I’ve ever seen him, and it was impressive even for me, once a hardened Democrat.

Anyway, for a little fun, I want you guys to send an email to Obama and let him know that “he can keep the ‘change'”:

    http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/contact2

BTW, Obama could very well lose in my homestate of Michigan according to some pretty recent polls. He’d be the first Democrat since 1988 to lose Michigan, and it looks like it could very well happen. What’s maddening is that if Clinton were the nominee Michigan would be an instant Democratic lock.

  113. I’m shameless, but I’m also not making any money off of it. All of the markup (since CafePress is POD and markups are your “profits”) are going to help Senator Clinton retire her debt (actually, it’ll be put aside for that; it seems to me very unclear where the money is going if you contribute directly to her right now, so until that becomes clear, I’m keeping track of it). That, plus whatever else after her debt is retired will go to her future campaigns and/or the Clinton Foundation.

    http://www.cafepress.com/pumapride

I am still taking requests for designs. If you think of something you don’t see, give drop me a line. 🙂 I’m also creating (this week) plain graphics of the patriotic puma for PUMA people to manipulate/use on their websites.

    — PUMA John

  114. Whoops, there shouldn’t be a winky after “profits” above…it should’ve been a quote and a parenthesis.

  115. So I’m doing the insomniac surf on the blogosphere, and I find this:

    Rove’s High Whistle

    by digby

ABC News’ Christianne Klein reports that at a breakfast with Republican insiders at the Capitol Hill Club this morning, former White House senior aide Karl Rove referred to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, as “coolly arrogant.”

“Even if you never met him, you know this guy,” Rove said, per Christianne Klein. “He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by.”

It’s very clever to add in the country club and martini imagery, even though it’s patently absurd. Gives it a nice sort of cover to what he’s saying. After all, conservatives can’t just come right out and call someone an Uppity Negro these days.

Really? Rove compares The Precious to a country club elitist and that’s really a racist dogwhistle? WTF?

Digby wasn’t alone in her opinion, comments at Salon and Balloon Juice referencing the same article said the same thing.

I guess it’s official now, all criticism of Barack Opossum is racist.

Does that mean we now can claim all criticism of Hillary is sexist?

    Nevermind.

  116. Great. I’m all alone out here suffering from insomnia, and I get stuck in the spam filter.

  118. That Michelle Whitedove link above is curious. I do believe SOME psychics–like that pet psychic on Animal Planet, she is AMAZING and it creeped me out whenever she was able to actually TELL people what their pets were thinking, or “psychically extract” a person’s old pets from their minds. CREEPY…but anyhoo–but I think it’s a gift and that probably only 10% of psychics actually have the gift.

  119. Spammy ain’t too bright is he?

  120. Puma John:

I can always tell what my cats are thinking.

    “I WANT FOOD!”

  121. Argh, it must be my insomnia and fatigue, but I forgot to complete my comment about Michelle Whitedove (Liberty Belle not for Obama’s link above). I read the current blog post of Whitedove’s, but then I read something dated from May of last year and boy…creeeeeepy. o_o

    http://www.michellewhitedove.com/Blog-2008PresidentialPredictions.php

The only thing that makes me question her on that page is that she says that John McCain is “prejudice” [sic], i.e. too prejudiced to run with Condi Rice. How can he be prejudiced when he has a daughter darker than Obama? Or does she mean he’s too prejudice against blacks? But aside from that, her predictions are pretty spot-on. She was right about Biden, Kucinich, HUCKABEE (that one I thought was good), Thompson, Giuliani, McCain, Obama, Clinton…the list goes on.

I guess the rule of measure I use to determine “luck” versus having a true gift would be the ratio of “spot on”s to the ratio of “wow, you suck”s. Her “spot on” ratio seems pretty high. Of course, it could be that she’s just REALLY lucky or a REALLY good guesser. None of us would ever know. But like I said, I do believe that a very few people have these gifts, but most psychics are full of bunk.

Re: gifts: It’s kind of like how some dogs and cats have the sense and ability to know when someone is going to die. This Friday Animal Planet (ha ha, with all of my plugging for AP, you’d think that I worked for them…I don’t, I just have a LOT of animals and the channel is probably the second most viewed channel we watch) they will be profiling one of those dogs who can tell when someone’s going to die.

I think my cat qualifies as one of those animals (one of my cats). I keep small animals as well, and they have short lives; and whenever one of them was having dire health problems and was in its last hours, this cat will come to me and scream at me until I check up on the little ones. He also screams at me when there’s a problem; water bottle empty, something not clean enough. This special cat also reminds me to take my own meds and has saved my life (twice) whilst I was sleeping. So I think SOME humans and SOME animals do have gifts of sixth senses.

All that given, I sure hope Whitedove is one with such a gift. Since I just found her site via the link above, I’ll read around her site. BTW, I hope me posting this doesn’t make me sound like some nutty one who spends all of his money on psychic hotlines, LOL…I’m sure and Obamatron would warp it into such.

I also want to say thank you to the PUMAs on this site. It’s such a relief to be able to read something that DOESN’T crap all over the Clinton Legacy, as I’m a huge Clintons fan. I loved Bill and I grew to love Hillary (I am ashamed to admit that I was suffering from a VERY MILD CASE of the sub-strain of CDS, Hillary Clinton Derangement Syndrome; I was a slave to the media’s calling her “cold” and all of that other crap…I just didn’t like her. But I set aside my prejudices and read many books about her, including ones written by foes/negative press, and I decided that I really, really like her!). Senator Hillary Clinton is TRULY a once in a lifetime candidate…Obama is a second in a lifetime (Jesse Jackson Sr. was the first) for the AAs. Yet they all forget that Jesse Jackson racked up a little over 1,200 delegates at the convention that year. D:

  122. This race is quickly shaping up to be a bizzare one. Not bizzare in an “oh, that’s oddly endearing” but an “Oh, my God. The horror” kind of bizzare.

  123. DamonMI:

I predict many, many trees will die to produce all the books and thesis papers that will be written about this election.

  124. LOL @ cats wanting food. Cats seem to always want food. Luckily I can free-feed my cats and none of them overeat to obesity. Thank G-d.

My dog, not so lucky. He seems to NEVER want food o_O He’s really picky, and if you don’t feed him, he pukes. Makes it really frustrating.

Seems like the ones I can’t really tell what they’re thinking is the short-haired cats (we have 2 shorts and two longs). They just stare at me or meow or smack me in the face when I’m sleeping…and THEN stare at me. My longhairs are loveBUGs, though. I can always tell if they want cuddles or food or treats.

I’m reading more on that entertaining psychic site and a paragraph stuck out at me from her last-year(?) predictions.

“2008 will start a time of civil unrest which will eventually lead to a Civil War in the USA. WHY? Democracy turns into a police state. Civil liberties are revoked. Americans civil rights to freedom of religion, speech, to peaceably assemble, to carry arms, to be free of discrimination, and the rights to be free of search or seizures without probable cause. Each of these rights will slowly be taken away and be the cause of civil war which will happen between 2008-2014. Paper money will be useless.”

Disturbing. Hope it doesn’t come true. But I sure hope this prediction does:

“–I see Hillary Clinton becoming the first woman president. If she is not elected this term, she’ll get it in the next election.
–I believe that Hillary Clinton has an 80% chance of becoming our next president, with John Edwards as her vice president. (But of course Elections can be stolen )”

She was wrong, though, about the prediction right before it:

“Americans will finally stop looking at presidential parties and will simply start voting in the best man/woman for the job.”

UNLESS…McCain actually gets in because of the Dems voting for him over Obama…since McCain has more qualifications than Obama. Hmmm.

  125. I wasn’t feeling well over the weekend so I missed Mary Curtis” WaPo diatribe about feminists not supporting Michelle Opossum.

Apparently not enough people complained about FAUX News’ “baby mama” reference.

One of the commenters nailed my reaction – where was Michelle when Hillary was the target of sexist attacks?

And lets not forget the fauxgressive attacks on Cindy McCain as a “sugar mama”

  126. thanks all for the polling numbers-see alot of new names here RD word is getting out the PUMA pack/pride is growing mmmm you do good work RD.

Any Idea about the polling lead in questions I like to know what else was being discussed-age race religion experience patriotism ect.

I have found in the early polls that how a candidate does depends on the lead in or mood questions the poller asks.

If there are alot of questions about patriotism and experience McCain Polls better.

If race and age are focus of the poll then Obama polls better.

But the numbers are alway in the margin of error…I do not believe this is good news for Team Obama. If he expects to win in November he has to be way out in front by Labor Day or the fall will be nothing but chipping away at his numbers by Team McCain.

    Fuzzybeargville

    well off to work

  127. I’m going around to a lot of PUMA blogs asking if anyone would like to join garychapelhill and I in UNITY NH on Friday for a little DisUnity rally.

It will be the first campaign appearance since the empire kidnapped our queen, so it would be great to announce ourselves with a show of force(non-violent protest that is)

Anyone near NH? Can take Friday off?

  128. myiq2xu,

They are unbelievable in their ceaseless attempts to paint everyone who does support Obama as racist.

This whole tactic really needs to backfire on them or race relations will be in the toilet for a long time.

  129. Mawm:

I wish I could but I’m on the left coast. It’s a tad too far to drive.

  130. Will Bower,

This is an excerpt from a comment you posted here at The Confluence on 6/16/08. In it you claim that SM’s creation of the PUMA acronym and Riverdaughter’s post on June 1 was a “synchonicity” and the true creator was someone named DJ Kelsey. Furthermore, in the Huffpost piece you are quoted as calling yourself the “founder” of PUMA.

Whilst helping to oversee the afore mentioned FaceBook group, I befriended DJ Kelsey. It has been *my* understanding that DJ Kelsey created the acronym PUMA for “Party Unity My Ass”. I fully believe him when he tells me that he created that particular acronym, as I wasn’t seeing mention of it anywhere else at the time.

*That said*… I will be the *first* to admit that it’s possible that this happened as a synchronicity. I don’t know who “SM” is, but I fully acknowledge that two great minds could have come up with the same acronym at the same time. Instead of taking credit for it, I choose to look at it as a movement that was *meant* to be.

Continuing: After another member of the FaceBook group (Thuc Nguyen) created some images for us, I took the PUMA / Party Unity My Ass concept to my FaceBook group with the idea of having it be a mascot and a call to arms…. and it caught fire there *immediately*. Within a few days, “The National” contacted us for an interview.

Meanwhile, Diane was preparing the conference call that would give birth to “Just Say No Deal”. Being that she knew of me through “Sista” and through The Huffington Post and through the PUMA article in The National, I was invited to participate.

Within only a few days after *that*, the ride REALLY took off!:

    And now here we are.

That is the history as I see it from where I now sit.

  131. Bostonboomer:

    Annoying isn’t it?

Time and again, individuals try to co-opt movements for their own personal aggrandizement.

Bowers lost me when he said he wanted Hillary to run as McCain’s VP.

That’s exactly what the Oborg have been falsely claiming she would do.

It makes me wonder at Bowers sincerity as a PUMA

  132. myiq2xu,

I’m with Riverdaughter on this. I’m glad the concept has gone viral. I don’t care who is making it happen. We know what happened, and I think we here on this blog are pretty independent. We’ll decide for ourselves what to do with our votes and won’t be told what to do by any so-called “leaders” or “movements.” The media nearly always gets everything wrong. Let them. I pay no attention to them anymore.

  133. To Quote “Not Your Sweetie”

    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/

“My loyalty is not to any candidate,

    It’s to my principles.

Which say: thieves are not to be rewarded.”

    BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

My sentiments and millions of other PumaCats sentiments exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  134. Everyone has been looking for President Bill. I just found him. He was the first one thrown under “the Bus”, and the rest of us have been piled up on top of him.

My new call to action “Free Bill, Free Bill!”

  135. myiq2xu bostonboomer,

We all know that SM and RD came up with it because we were here to witness it, but at some point I believe we have to let it go. Who came up with the idea is not the point. The point is that it has a life of its own now, and no one can control it.
The conditions that gave rise to PUMA would have given rise to the same thing with a different name if SM hadn’t said it. This isn’t a top down marketing campaign it is a grass roots movement. If you try to keep strict control of the message, you will kill the grassroots, democratic, emergence of the thing.
Bower hasn’t said anything so offbase at this point for me to lump him in with any Republican dirty tricks people, and there are more people than just him that are hitting the airwaves, so I believe even if he did say something questionable there are other people to balance it out.

OMG you have described the Obamabots perfectly.

    SM,

    xoxo from Puma PAC

and xoxo to riverdaughter, patjohnson, bostonboomer, vbonnierre, katiebird, prolix, teresa and all the great ones here.

Will, you will find good friends at the confluence, as you know.

SM — I hope you noticed that our site will be bilingual soon, spanish and english!

Why is it that all the HRC supporters are so damn NICE, and all the other guys are so damn, well — you know.

    coincidence?

The PUMA Deaconess Supreme!!! XOXO as well, I just saw your interview on the PUMAPac site!!!

Blingual PUMA site: THAT IS FANTASTIC!!! I’m really proud of all PUMA efforts, and it’s 24 days old – Congrats!

(BTW, I love the paint color on your walls!)

  138. I am in Massachusetts, probably a couple of hours from Unity. Send details about Friday by email or post your plans. I will consult with Samantha about her plans for Friday and see what I can do.

  139. Maum,

I’ve already let it go. I didn’t think it up anyway. I just don’t care for people who can’t keep their stories straight. I’m not interested in blindly following Will Bower (or anyone else) anywhere. I’m an independent individual, and I make my own decisions. I decide who I’ll trust. Sorry, that’s just the way I’ve always been.

I trust you, Maum, and Gary too.

  140. Boomer.

Firstly, yes, it was originally told to me that DJ Kelsey had created the acronym. At that time I had not heard of SM, so I had no reason to disbelieve that. It’s now looking more and more clear to me that it did indeed originate here, and with SM.

(I’m still leaving room to believe that DJ might have had a “Great Minds Think Alike” moment with SM, but, for now, I’m keeping it simple and agree that it does indeed look like it started here with SM.)

As for me being the “founder”… I’ve told every journalist who will listen that I am *a* *co* founder to the cause. I have never once said *the*…. and I have never once left out the “co-“. Wherever you read differently, I can assure you that it was the journalist’s decision to report it differently.

My Iq: In every single interview I’ve given thus far, I am *always* asked the “What if Obama picks Clinton as his Veep” question. When I say that I would prefer a McCain/Clinton ticket, it’s to highlight that I would much *prefer* that to an Obama/Clinton ticket. It also keeps me out of the weeds in terms of speaking for many voters who *do* want an Obama/Clinton ticket. It’s a question they continue to try to trip me up with, and I’m answering it to the best of my abilities.

  141. Maum,

I posted this above. You may have missed it. I’m not sure how it differs from your point of view, but if you think it does, that’s OK with me. I think we agree. But as I said before, I’m an individual and I speak only for myself.

“I’m with Riverdaughter on this. Let them. I pay no attention to them anymore.”

  142. And, yes, SM… if you go to the media page at JustSayNODEAL.com, you can find me there. You can also find me at PUMA08.com, and I believe riverdaughter has my contact information as well.

Looking forward to hearing from you, SM!

    Will

  143. Will,

Sorry, I have no clue who DJ Kelsey is. Will you please provide a link to his/her original post about PUMA? If it’s synchronicity, it will be on June 1 or earlier, right?

Again, I don’t really care. I’m thrilled that the concept has gone viral. I’m just not a “joiner.” I never have been, I’m afraid. One thing I did join was the Democratic Party. Look how that turned out.

  144. Clarification: Hillary is NOT being repaid for her personal campaign loans. Our donations to retire her debt only go towards her other campaign debts. Donations made at her website or to her campaign hq address only go towards her campaign debt-not the Obama campaig.

  145. Murphy,

You were fantastic on NECN!! I’m officially impressed. You are a wonderful spokesperson, and I hope you get a lot more such opportunities. XOXOXOXOXO right back at ya!

  146. Will, ok – I’ll write you soon!

Will, (sorry but this bears repeating) – I’d like to see more attention drawn on the vote stealing & cheating at the RBC meeting. It’s not JUST about the mistreatment of Hillary in the media, it’s about how Democracy died in the Democratic Party on May 31st, 2008, in aiding a candidate to steal votes that were given to him based on “exit polls” from the MSM.

That is what drew us together in collective rage. Mawm’s “Lipstick on a Pig” shout at the RBC became our “No Taxation without Representation” battlecry, Harriet Christian is our Howard “I’m mad as hell and I can’t take it anymore!” Beale. She stirred us to shout and we all joined her.

What Boston, and myself & other Conflucian PUMAs want to see is that the PUMA original message is kept, which is inherently tied in the PUMA birth here at the Confluence. You’ve read Riverdaughter’s PUMA Un-Party & PUMA Power manisfestos. That’s the PUMA “Declaration of Independence & Bill of Rights,” IMO.

You have the means and know-how to push this movement as it was intended and so far you have done a great job of that. Thank you & will write you in a few.

    Bostonboomer, you rock as always!

  147. Shtuey thank you for that fabulous Donna Brazile link-it was what I suspected all along…
    This is her in 2004
“This is a new moment to identify and recruit better messengers. Perhaps it’s time to tap into the “Obama” factor: Scour statehouses for young, energetic, inspiring, and emerging leaders with the ability to connect the head and heart. ”

  148. Boomer. The earliest mention of PUMA on the Hillary board I’ve found thus far is June 4th. This is why I’m coming to the conclusion that the acronym was, indeed, born here with SM. It’s just that I trust and respect DJ, and I don’t believe he was seeking to take credit from anyone. His involvement in all of this has been *very* low-key.

And, I agree with you Boomer… Murphy rocked it out! 😀

SM. You and I are completely on the same page. There are various PUMA battlefronts right now, and the one I’ve been attempting to address is the one you mention. (If you get the chance to read through the HuffPo articles I’ve written, you’ll see that this is an issue for which I, too, am passionate.) I’ll do my best to keep putting our sentiments on this one out there!

  149. Will, I didn’t know you had HuffPo pieces – my bad!

I had sworn them off for a while – I’ll go back there – only because of you!

  150. CaseyOR, I’m pretty far down the thread now, but in regards to your question about the support in Oregon for Gordon Smith, it is anomolous, isn’t it?

He’s never been *perceived* as a hard right winger (like Dennis Richardson and his ilk), but somehow seems to be appealing enough to that wing of the party. He’s also been very successful at painting himself a sort of post-partisan Republican, even before he came out against the war.

I live down here in the red end of the state, and with regular not-hyper-political folks around here he’s almost a wash in terms of public perception – neither liberal nor conservative – and he certainly looks like the Senator sent over from Central Casting. And he’s rich and raises money like nobody’s business.

He’s the last Republican in the Senate from the west coast! I imagine he’ll still be there after Nov. too, sad to say. I’ll be rooting for Merkley (I was a Novick supporter in the primaries, though), and I’ll do what I can with canvassing and calling and whatever, but I just can’t see it happening that he beats Smith.

  151. Katiebird, i stopped listening to my NPR radio

  152. Susan M–

I, too, was a Novick supporter. I still think he had the better chance against Smith, but Chuck Shumer and the DSCC thought otherwise.

  153. Will,

It really troubles me that you won’t tell me who this DJ person is or link to his blog or page or whatever you are talking about. I didn’t say this person was trying to take credit from someone. How could I? I have no clue who he is. I’ve only heard about him from you.

  154. SM,

You said it just right. You can be my representative anytime, anywhere.

  155. DamonMi-

Gordon Smith did give an emotional speech against the war, but he didn’t do it until after the 2006 midterm election. Before that he was a big war cheerleader. And I question the timing. i think he realized he might have a tough re=election bid and modified his stance to be more in line with Oregonians. He is not a friend.

  156. Boomer.

If I’m not saying all that much about DJ, it’s because he’s wanting to keep a low profile. He’s not in a position where he can have his status as a PUMA well-known.

However, if you contact me directly (and give me a way of knowing that it’s really you, since who knows who’s reading this board), I’ll try to put you in contact with him yourself, so that you can further explore his role in all of this.

I want to help all parties involved understand as much of all of this as I can! It’s important to me that we get our history right!

  157. I don’t want to explore his role or talk to him. I just asked you who he is? If his identity is a secret, fine. Whatever. If you’ve read any of my previous comments to you (and it isn’t clear to me that you have), I am not a “joiner.” I speak for myself only.

I withdraw my request to be told who this person is. OK?

  158. […] PUMAs on the Loose… (by riverdaughter at The Confluence) Salon’s tagged teamed Rebecca Traister and Walter Shapiro against us. […]

  159. I hear you, Boomer. And, yep, I have indeed read your earlier posts. I can appreciate that you are not a joiner. That’s kinda the essence of the PUMA spirit after all, no?

Even though you’ve withdrawn your request, I’ll still see if I can get DJ to join this thread and explain his part in all of this. Again, I really want us to know our history as we proceed. Had I known about SM sooner, and had I known about riverdaughter’s and The Confluence’s role in all of this, I would have popped on over here *right away* !!

  161. Again Folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNITY NH !!!!!!!!!!!!
    okay here are the details:
Unity NH, Unity Elementary School, 6/27/08, 12:00
Unity is right off of I91 which makes it a reasonable trip from Springfield MA, Boston Ma, Hartford CT, Albany NY, and of course parts of NH and VT. You can map quest it and simply put in Unity Elementary School in place of “business” Unity is a town of only 1,700 so I doubt that there will be a crowd of 10,000. A couple hundred Puma’s would make the news and the place will be crawling with national media because this the first appearance of Hillary and Obama together. If only handful of us show up it will be dismissed, no doubt, as those disgruntled people, but if a few hundred show up……….
So who’s up for this? Bring a pair of flip flops.
