    • How Important Is The Drone Attack On The Saudi Oil Field?
As you’d expect from the title, both more and less than it seems. The impact on oil prices is not that big a deal, despite the screaming. If they were to, say, wind up at $75/barrel for a few months, well the last time we had prices that high was… less than a year ago. […]

  1. Who is that lady? She’s awesome!

  2. Amy Siskind

  3. Geez, you leave for a few and come back to find an entire thread of people still wondering if Taylor Marsh’s good friend Terry McAuliffe is sending a special secret message to Marshans. Yes, please send millions of envelopes, says he, to the senate mail distribution facility. They’ll be thrilled! Don’t forget to use Schumer’s zip+4!

  4. Oh, and PD may be out of work.

  5. (sniff) Wow. That was wonderful. Thank you for posting that Riverdaughter. (blinking)

  6. hlr: Taylor says it isn’t McAuliffe so we can save our stamps or send the message to Howard Dean instead.

I hope PD has something else lined up. He should be very employable.

  7. Who is PD?

  8. RD: OF COURSE it isn’t McAuliffe. That’s what I was telling them two threads ago.

I mean, all of the aides in the office have been fanning out all over the US for the campaign since Dec — oh yes, this is what they really want, LOL.

  9. Way to go Amy!! je me souviens, indeed.

  10. I like the fact that we don’t have many elitists here. heh-heh.

  11. WS: Peter Daou. He used to write The War Room at Salon but quit in 2006 to become Hillary’s internet director.

  12. Please tell me who PD is. It’s like a puzzle that I can’t solve and its bothering me that I can’t.

  13. Oh ok thanks RD. Puzzle solved.

  14. good one, hlr. Can we leave EJohn’s ill-advised comment on, othewise, hlr’s joke gets lost. Pleeease?

  15. ElitistJohn: Before I delete your comment, I just want to instruct you on censorship. Censorship is something the government does to stifle dissent. If there was no other place on the web for your to express register your dissent, I would feel obliged to host your comments. Fortunately for both of us, there are plenty of places where you can go be a jerk. Please exercise your free speech somewhere else. We will not be offended.

  16. Peter Daou will be fine. He is a very talented and was a very respected blogger.

That was one of Hillary’s best catch.

  17. Obama supporters like saying the word “Wow” a lot.

  18. Please get ElitistJohn outta here. I have a very low threshold for jerks.

  19. Let me poll you good people,

Should I bother going to the Potemkin VIllage presentation tomorrow?

Here is what I know — despite the campaign’s description of events beginning at noon, it should be short and sweet as the museum re-opens at 1:00 p.m.

Second, the press says everyone will be watching to make sure Hillary is a very eager cheerleader. I take no joy in watching suffering in person.

  20. MABlue: He’s been sent to the spam filter with the rest of the sludge. I will clean up any mess he’s left.

  21. Go, hlr. I wish I could.

  22. Natalie Maines has maxed out her contribution — to Obama:

    http://www.newsmeat.com/celebrity_political_donations/Natalie_Maines.php

How about a little Twisted Sister (We’re not gonna take it!) instead.

  23. CNN poll of Clinton supporters. Says if she is not VP, 60% will vote for Obama, 17% will defect to McCain, and 22% will stay home.

    http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/6/6/213013/4391

What will the passage of time do to these numbers? I’m sure the Republicans are seeing these numbers and keep stoking the fires and/or sucking up to her supporters. The Dem leaders are convinced we will come around in a couple of months according to Dean’s time frame.

  24. hlr: Go to the rally, make a ruckus. Let her know you care. It would be awful if she had to go through it alone.

  25. RD, I was at the rally, but I couldn’t see the speaker. Nice to see her on the video.

I keep thinking of the chant we were saying last Saturday: We will remember, in November.

  26. WS,

Obama doesn’t improve with greater exposure. The more people see and hear him, the less they like him. I think those numbers will deteriorate just like his positives have steadily gone down and his negatives have gone up over time. His negatives are now more than 50%. You don’t reverse negatives like that when you have the kinds of associates that Obama does. It might be different if he ever talked about issues or what kind of change he plans to bring, but he is just all about Obama. I think it’s already getting old.

  27. WS — The Dem leaders are convinced we will come around in a couple of months according to Dean’s time frame.

You know, he could lose even more depending on how the campaigns evolve.

Before things got ugly, the #1 issue I heard was the experience one. If the GOP is successful in making him look like a noob, well …

Also, you have to wonder how many more accusations of racism we’ll hear.

The Dems are idiots. They have framed this as bitter Clinton people — let them keep beating that drum. I’ll give you a counter-example — there’s a military base not too far away from me. I know several women who work there. They were Hillary supporters in the Dem primary and will vote McCain in the general. BO has nothing to do with it — they vote their occupational interests.

  28. I will follow her anywhere.

I admire her as much as I did Eleanor Roosevelt, and more than that, almost as much as I admired my dear mother, who was a totally awesome woman, a woman I respected as brilliant and one of a kind.

Hillary, you are among the best!

Go to Hell Obama, you are nothing.

  29. PUMA POWER! (AKA Cougar)

This totem’s gift is how to balance power, intention, strength and grace.
It is the balance of body, mind and spirit.
The first responsibility of leadership is truth.
Remember: Responsibility is no more than the ability to respond to any situation.
Cougar can teach you how to bring out your power
and fill your heart with it that will enable you to take charge of your life.
You can use Cougar power to defend yourself or to attack.

  30. RD: Go to the rally, make a ruckus

BTW, we’re not allowed to bring signs. I guess “The Messiah sucks” would be embarassing …

  31. hlr: heh.

  32. I would like to go to DC also – any real chance of getting in? That museum is quite a rotunda, I’m guessing about 5-10,000 people maybe. I think it will be packed early.

  33. A friend sent this:

Here’s a quote from someone I know who saw the whole thing evolve first-hand. As many of you suspected, HRC was strong-armed by the DNC. What you might not have suspected (as I did not) was that the media kept reporting she was dropping out (without checking first with her campaign) as a form of pressure; which seems extraordinary to me. If you ever needed confirmation that this guy is being shoved down our throats—for all the wrong reasons(by all the wrong vested interests)—here it is, I guess.

“Okay, so now that Hillary has issued a statement to the press, I’ll elaborate on what I know:

Basically, on Tuesday Hillary spent the day at home calling superdelegates. In doing so, she discovered that Obama supporters, Uncommitted supers and a few of her supporters had essentially made a pact with the DNC that they would not support Hillary at the convention. She was essentially told that she
needed to get out of the race asap. Someone told the press that she was going to get out last night, but Hillary didn’t want to exit the race when someone else told her to do it (the media) and instead, decided she would exit on her own time, under her conditions. I think it was her last opportunity to actually call her own shots versus having the DNC, party officials and media do it. In fact, during the meeting today, she joked that she had realized that she wanted to be a person who “talked for a living”, as you always had work and the things you said didn’t even have to be true. Anyway, apparently, the idea that Obama isn’t going to be able to win the nomination came up while talking to the DNC/supers and the response she received was that Obama brought in a lot of new Democratic voters (and ultimately, a lot of new Democratic money) and thus, while the party might lose the election in the short term (the presidential election, that is), the long term would be good, as the party would have lots of new voters and money. The belief was that even though Obama might not be able to win the presidency, the fact that he had all these new voters” would help to ensure that the party won the congressional and senatorial seats in play in November. I asked if Hillary had read the comments posted by her supporters and was told that she did and that if she felt she could win the election (garner the superdelegate support at the convention), she would have stayed in the race. However, the DNC and supers made it very clear to her that they would not support her and that she needed to get out.

The airwaves today were full of Obama supporters demonizing Hillary for not dropping out of the race last night. They went on and on about how selfish
she is and how “dare she strong arm for the VP position”. I was told that she has never once asked for the VP spot AND that she hasn’t been talking to the
Obama campaign at all about what to do next. She came to her decision on her own, but did indicate that she would use some of her delegate support to get the healthcare plan on the Obama platform. In typical Obama fashion, he allowed the media to go on and on for the last two weeks about how Hillary is
staying in the race so she can be the VP. Today that rhetoric reached a ridiculous level and the hate directed at her was completely over the top.
Again, no statement from Obama regarding the truth: That she had NOT asked or the VP spot. (In fact, from what I understand, Hillary has no obvious
desire to be a part of the Obama campaign whatsoever. This seems good, as right now, people love her and she can exit this looking like the queen that
she is. If she goes with Obama, then the media will say that they were right all along-that Hillary stayed in this after March because she wanted the VP
spot…his supporters will also go crazy with that logic, as they have no idea that she stayed in for us and because she should have been able to win had the supers and DNC not been in Obama’s pocket.) Regardless, around 6:30, the media began reporting that Hillary would concede on Friday. Apparently, she hadn’t reported this to the media and they were again frustrated with the media’s attempt to strong arm her into conceding on Friday.

Despite the fact that she was going to concede, she wanted it on her own terms. Thus, she decided to set a date to concede, but scheduled it for Saturday-one last opportunity to stick it to the media (we love Hillary for that). About one hour after that, Obama issued a statement admitting that Hillary did not negotiate anything before indicating she would concede. Once again, he believed it would make him look good to appear “gracious”, but clearly fails to realize that her supporters are not the idiots that he and his supporters think we are. It seems that today, his supporters are starting to figure out
that they will need her supporters to win the election (though it’s too little, too late in my opinion…) and are attempting to opportunistically seize upon the moment.”

  34. This is one of my favorite videos of the Democratic primary season.

These 2 ladies will not forget and will get back at the DNC. That’s for sure.

  35. I just had a great idea. Obama should pick Sebelius for VP and when she puts everyone to sleep during the convention, our delegates and superdelegates will have earplugs and give Hillary the nomination!!!

  36. absolutely wonderful videos – thank you so much.

(and I do think Natalie Maines is an Obamabot – oh well)

  37. Athena — the ticket says you’re not guaranteed to get in. In the past, I’ve relied on friends to get me a media pass, but I didn’t try this time. I have a feeling that there will be a very large press crowd.

Also, supposedly they start letting ppl in at 10:00 am, 2 hours in advance!

  38. MAB, that made me tear up 🙂

    I love this video:

  39. I’m playing Ms. Maines over and over again, b/c it really does say how I feel. I have to stop going to the political blogs in my universe, b/c I inevitably leave comments on all of the posts about my thoughts on the so-called presumptive nominee (I can’t even say *his* name). And I have to stop that…..

I was having a text convo with my friend who supports…*him*, and eventually I texted her that Hillary should run in 2012 when he doesn’t win. She texted back, “well, you’ll be helping him win!” I texted back, “Not really. I’ll be helping other dems, though.” It was several long minutes before I got a response of “I guess I have to respect that.” Hopefully she gets that if someone as “moderate” (in personality, not politics), professional, and “established” as me is saying this…what does this mean about the other 18 million voters out there?

I think the majority of Hillary supporters will end up voting for *him* and that’s fine (to each their own)…but a substantial amount will not do anything to lift their finger for the Democratic presidential campaign that does not have her on the top of the ticket.

At the risk of repeating, we just need to keep our voices out there. I will be watching our lady tomorrow…we know she’ll have to jump through some hoops, but I have no doubt she’ll have a message for us. And, certainly, we will all make personal decisions on how to react. The different b/t us and the other group is we think for ourselves, we aren’t mindless automatons following the Messiah leader. But I know she won’t disappoint us.

Anyway…I’m playing the song again…b/c, you know what? I’m not ready to make nice…

  40. I know UpstateNY will appreciate this!

Sebelius giving the State of the Union.

  41. Election Day will be on NO-vember 4th.

  42. RD, thanks for the rhyme. I’ve been trying to make that work, but I was unsuccessful. Metaphorically, of course, lets blow the DNC bastards up.

Remember, remember the fourth of November
    The DNC treason and plot
I see no reason, why the DNC treason
    Should ever be forgot.

H is for hell hath no fury like voters scorned.

  43. hlr: I normally do not laugh out loud while blogging, but you got me laughing me big time. Thank you. I needed it, after seeing MABlue’s video.

  44. I want to see Obama, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile and the rest of the losers totally humiliated. I will do my small part by voting for McCain and voting for the opponent of my traitor congressman, Howard Berman.

  45. kiki:

Keep in mind that was right after Hillary got trashed in SC, following a week during which she was accused of being a racist, of diminishing MLK legacy, and other horrible things.

Yet she was very magnanimous with those 2 ladies.

  46. Pressure is building on Hillary Clinton to ace her noon concession speech Saturday, as Democratic leaders expect her to heal the divisive wounds of the primary and at the same time signal to the 18 million voters who backed her that it’s time to close ranks behind former rival Barack Obama
Sorensen, an Obama supporter, told FOXNews.com Clinton should “admire and salute” her former opponent, and urge her donors and supporters to follow.
    http://tinyurl.com/5h56hz

  47. The S.F. Chronicle, which endorsed Obama and worked overtime for him, even posting a first-page headline that Hillary was losing her support among women in California towards the end (small, questionable poll–definitely not among the Hillary supporters I know–we became more determined), and barely covering her big wins down to the end. She was almost erased from that phony rag.

Then today I read that the extent that Hillary campaigns her heart out in the swing states to bring voters to Obama will determine how responsible she is for Barry’s loss. Precious has got to grow up and take responsibility for something.

When a nomination has to be rigged as heavily as this one, it tells me that the people don’t want the presumptive one. 1.1 million caucus voters does not equal 34.5 million primary voters any way you do the math.

  48. yeah MAB, that’s when I first saw it. I bookmarked it then and have watched it often. it’s very sweet. I always feel a rush of love for those women.

  49. Obama’s win is Hillary’s responsibility? that’s bullshit

  50. It is always the woman’s fault, always. And don’t you forget it, kiki.

  51. I guess Hillary’s official position in the democratic party is……if someone else does well, they take the credit. if someone else fails, it’s her fault.

is she really willing to be the official punching bag of the party?

  52. lol Upstate 🙂 I’ll keep it in mind

  53. WS–neither Obama nor his supporters can control themselves, and they seem to be convinced that ‘acting like $#%^&*()’ is he smartest campaign strategy eva, so good luck to them. perhaps they have a strategy to lose the general as well as they primary but somehow count several states as half, not let others vote and so on and then claim victory reagrdless. is there anyway the general can be decided by democratic superds?

we’ve got the right to choose it, ain’t no way we’ll lose it, this is our life, this is our song, you’re so condescending, your gall is neverending, we don’t need nothing no nothin from you. we’re not gonna take it, no, we ain’t gonna take it, we’re not gonna take it anymore, and just you try and make us

  54. Ted Sorenson is a disgrace. After the wonderful work he did for JFK, to support Obama and to compare him to JFK, it’s a disgrace. Sorenson must be getting senile.

  55. CB: the extent that Hillary campaigns her heart out in the swing states to bring voters to Obama will determine how responsible she is for Barry’s loss.

Truly offensive, but it’s a game of chicken. People saw what happened. If BO loses, heads will roll, but I don’t think Hillary is the one w/ problems.

In my state, the only reps that came out early for BO were Elijah Cummings and Al Wynn, CBC reps. Steny Hoyer, Van Hollen, Sarbanes and Cardin were smart enough to wait until the ‘deciders’ made it a moot point to give themselves some cover.

  56. That is one powerful movie.

“There’s something terribly wrong with this country, isn’t there?”

I want a Guy Fawkes mask! They sell them at Amazon.com. Just give me a time and a place.

  57. I hope HIllary and Bill don’t lift a finger for BO. If she does campaign for him, the press will only twist everything she says and does. She can’t win with things as they are in the party.

  58. I’ll be glad when BO loses, and these psychotic Obamabots go back to watching Star Trek reruns.

  59. Is HIllary now the Desperate Housewife of the Democratic party – completely mocked and dismissed, but essential for the man to get what he wants?

  60. do these people realize JFK was in the house or the senate for about 13 years before he ran for president? he also had a military career.

    where is the similarity?

  61. BB: t”She can’t win with things as they are in the party”

That is why I have always mantained that she will never run again. And quite frankly, I say…good for her.

  62. sonya. How dare you!!! I love Star Trek 😉

  63. Hillary can’t win. no matter what she does, it will be interpreted as some evil gesture. I don’t understand this at all.

  64. Oops! Sorry abut that, UpstateNY!

Let me amend that to “playing Grand Theft Auto.”

  65. sonya, lol!!!

  66. UpstateNY — sonya has a point. Separated at birth or Obamafans?

  67. sonya. We’re cool.

  68. Never seen that movie. Is it any good? I’ll get it through interlibrary loan.

  69. Hey UpstateNY, where are you? I used to live in Syracuse.

  70. i’m getting nervous about this. i don’t want her to go to heavy on the BO stuff. i know that the more she does, the more it will actually hurt him since it will tip a lot of fed up supporters from ‘not voting BO’ to ‘voting mccain,’ but i really don’t want to see it regardless.

  71. hlr, is that a real movie? LOL!

  72. The S.F. Chronicle, which endorsed Obama and worked overtime for him, even posting a first-page headline that Hillary was losing her support among women in California towards the end (small, questionable poll–definitely not among the Hillary supporters I know–we became more determined), and barely covering her big wins down to the end. Obama returned his recent campaign contributions from Rezko…and I read this today in an email that was forwarded to me. I don’t know the source, but the thinking is interesting. What follows is directly quoted:

But will he return the land that he bought from Rezko?

I can hear it now. “But Jim, this isn’t a donation from Rezko to Obama,” because the senator bought the land for a lot more than it was worth — “an appraiser valued the slice of land Rezko sold at $40,500, Obama decided it would be fair to pay Rezko substantially more: one sixth of his original purchase price, or $104,000.”

Precisely. Rezko “widely known to be under federal investigation at the time.” Paying substantially more than the land was appraised creates the appearance of a $64,000 payment to a person who, if found guilty, could discuss his longtime association and business dealings with a U.S. senator with federal law enforcement.

  73. I am not too far from it. I pretty much live between Syracuse and Rochester. We just got some property by lake Ontario but it is a big time fixer upper so it keeps me out of trouble.

  74. UpstateNY — I haven’t seen it but the reviews are positive overall at Amazon. Wonder how it compares to Buffyverse?

  75. I remember the Onondaga Valley well. Two seasons: winter and not-winter.

It’s a beautiful area, and the people were very nice.

  76. Seriously: but i really don’t want to see it regardless.

I feel your pain, which is why I have a hard time in pushing myself to go tomorrow.

    sonya — yes!

  77. Fred,
Thanks for posting this article. With each new article about what Hillary HAS to do to get her voters to support Barry, just pisses me off more. They just don’t get it. This has gone far beyond Hillary. The Dem Party has stooped lower than the Repubs, which i might add, I NEVER thought my precious Party could ever do. In hurting and demoralizing one of their own, they have shown how low the party has become, all for the mighty dollar and power.. TRAGIC. They don’t seem to care if they get the White House In 08, so should I? Truthfully, I don’t know what I’m getting In Barry, does anybody? He’s never had spoke on anything except hope and change. Well I’m sorry, I need a little more than that… With the company he has kept in the past, I don’t trust him, I don’t care for his attitude and he showed his true colors when he let the media brow beat Hillary with never one shout out in her defense. The more they push him on me, the more I dislike him. I will not vote for him, I just hope we all stay strong on our beliefs thru Nov. 4. Voting for him is giving in to the illegal vote on Saturday.

  78. I forgot about Cindy McCain’s millions. That could close the money gap with Obama or at least keep him competitive. As an heiress, does she have that type of money lying around and cut a check to her husband’s campaign anytime she wants to? Or are her millions tied up in assets and stocks? Anyone know?

  79. Somethings wrong with IMDB right now, but I’m gonna look up Trekkies later. LOL!

  80. And here we are talking about trekkies and Buffyverse… instead of how screwed the DNC is going to be in the Fall.

Enough, “my friends” I must go to bed. See you all in the morning… And by the way, the blog stats scare me.

  81. From one of the reviews:

Some of the folks documented here seemed to be pretty normal, excepting the fact that they carry a phaser around with them. Others were just a little bit too serious for my taste, such as the lady who is addressed by her rank of “commander” at work and the man who has flirted with the idea of getting Vulcan ear implants.

  82. hlr: heh. I must see the movie now.

sonya: no, everybody here in rural NY is a toothless racist (not Appalachia, but close), after all NY did not go for O.

Now I am going to bed.

  83. I think there’s going to be serious push-back against the meme that Hillary should go above and beyond in helping Obama’s campaign. Everyone has seen, or has access to, the disgraceful performance of the DNC in stealing delegates from Hillary and giving them to Obama.

If people see the media and the DNC piling on Hillary, they’re going to take it out on Obama because of his inability to stand on his own two feet. Most believe that Hillary has suffered enough.

  84. I’ve seen the movie, Trekkies (Star Trek fan here and Capt. Janeway is my favorite Captain). They have a guy who turned his car into a shuttlecraft and a man or woman (don’t remember which gender) that wears a Star Trek uniform wherever he or she goes.

  85. I was just watching “Voyager” all evening too…I even had my tricorder handy!

    …yes, I’m a die-hard Trekker, just like I’m a die-hard Clintonista 8)

  86. After Saturday, I hope they can lay off Hillary and focus on Obama and McCain. Then they’ll get bored and talk about Hillary again.

  87. Captain Picard is the man. I loved it when he would say, “make it so.”

  88. Doesn’t matter it is not coming from Terry Mc.A. It is a good idea indeed;
the message of “take it to Denver” should get some press. I think it’s worth the 41c . Come on people !!

  89. Hillary is the only interesting person in this whole race. Truthfully, I think most of the pundits are half in awe/love with her anyway. She’s just too personable when they get to know her, too smart, too damned presidential. You don’t know what to do with her and when that happens with a woman they go with belittling her instead.

  90. sonya-I pray you are right….that people will react negatively to the drumbeat that Hillary should fall on the sword for this guy. Give me a break! If she’sthe Hillary we’ve come to know and love, she will know exactly how much she will do to support the “party” and won’t go over that line for herself and for her supporters. I have to believe this!

  91. WS, I’ve thought the same. They will be so bored when Hillary is out of the picture. That’s why I don’t want her as VP. Let the focus be on Obama for a while so people can see how he does. I don’t expect much when he has to do more than comment on Hillary. I don’t think he can run his campaign solely on unity now…McCain already has a reputation of working across the aisle. I’m not sure how true that is anymore but people believe it.

  92. Picard and Janeway are my favorite Captains. I would marry that bald head of his. And her bun from the early season was love. *swoons*

The weirdest thing about Picard was that he was French but his accent was English.

  93. Rumor has it that Dean will step down as chair and Donna B will move into it.

  94. “Captain Picard is the man. I loved it when he would say, “make it so.””

Thenthis song is for you sonya. I like him too.

  95. Pat-I heard that, too, about Donna taking over. Lends credence to the rumor that Dean-O will be VP! I’ll just be sick now. Excuse me!

  96. sonya: If people see the media and the DNC piling on Hillary, they’re going to take it out on Obama because of his inability to stand on his own two feet. Most believe that Hillary has suffered enough.

I think the establishment Democrats, the media and BO himself understand that his campaign was propelled to some extent by Hillary-hate. They can’t let go, and they still need her to continue this sham.

  97. Lakota in GA — there is *no way* Howard Dean will be VP.

  98. Please tell me that’s a joke..Donna B? Dean? Are we scared of losing Vermont?

  99. Is the Picard song? I love that song. Listening to it now.

  100. Lakota, let’s be real. Obama is a man who has never been in the military and never accomplished anything of note, that is running against a bona fide war hero whose torture as a POW is evident everything time he claps his hands.

What will it say about BO if he or the DNC or the media blame Hillary for his inadequacies?

  101. I don’t know about Dean and VP but I have seen and heard about Donna B. Imagine what the DNC will look like with her at the helm.

  102. third party time, if ever there was a time.

    I like the greens myself.

  103. VP: They are pushing the idea of Sebelius (yawn), Richardson, Webb, Nunn, Hagel, McGaskil, Edwards (who said he was not interested). Dean is new to me.

  104. Sonya, it will be the unspoken justification that Not-Hillary is not better than Hillary.

  105. Pat,

I hope that’s true. When the DNC ship sinks, I would love for Donna Brazile to be the one to go down with it. Then we’ll finally be rid of her ignorant ass.

  106. Is anybody tuning in at noon tomorrow? I don’t know if I can.

  107. Pat Johnson, on June 6th, 2008 at 11:49 pm Said:
Rumor has it that Dean will step down as chair and Donna B will move into it.

Of course…that’s what it has been all about …capeche?

  108. Sad. An unfathomable lost opportunity for this ailing country. For what? Someone who has been in the Senate for five minutes.

This woman will definitely not be ready to make nice in November or beyond. I’m glad they are underestimating us. They do not understand principles and integrity, so they do not understand what that kind of violation feels like. It doesn’t matter if they do–the consequences will be real.

I also saw that email today about what really went down. They don’t even care if we lose in November. It’s all about the green–American capitalism is rotting this country to the core. Oh, I forgot, Obama is on a big new crusade to rid Washington of lobbyists (except for all the bundlers that are feeding his coffers, that’s different).

  109. I see it populated with a lot of far left lefties and AAs. They can kiss the under 30s aside since they will go Repub after they graduate and get their 100,000 yrly salary.

  110. Apparently the DNC’s finances are a mess. I read the RNC has $40 million in the bank while the DNC has only $4 million.

  111. Annetoo: Very evident.

  112. Joseph Cannon has a fascinating new post up about the “tape” rumors.

  113. Regency,

    Exactly.

    where is the similarity?

They know little about history, and just repeat easy talking points. “Change, hope, unity, Kennedy, the One” They were raised on marketing and branding–it’s all they know. And Axelrod, the former ad man, is workin’ it like a pro.

  115. Ryan,

That link doesn’t work for me. I want to hear the song.

  116. I’ll probably watch because I won’t be able to stand having to hear things second hand. I adore this woman with every fiber of my political animal. I can give her this. In fact, I’ll watch her while she stumps–maybe–because she is inspirational and I don’t see her nearly enough.

But, then again, maybe not. I’d better pick a movie to watch for that time period. Somebody tell me if she uses the word “end” or “concede.” That’s literally all I need to know. Oh, and what she’s wearing, because I’m both gay and shallow.

  117. Got another solicitation today in the mail from the DNC. Very sneaky. It was from the office of Al Gore. Inside it was DNC crapola. I have sent back two already and they still don’t get it.

  118. Sam Nunn…the Dem’s Dick Cheney. That’s hope and change I can believe in!!

God, does ANYONE on this VP list seem al all interesting? When Donna moves into the chair, you will see a new party….

  119. He won’t pick someone who may have the ability to outshine him. Transcenders do not welcome competition. I am so depressed.

  120. I still feel like I’m in an alternate universe. Maybe I need to do the Star Trek thing. This is so ridiculous! I would laugh if I wasn’t so sad! Thank you all for being here! And, I, too, will always remember….in November and beyond!

  122. I have to be honest. I linked to the Joseph Cannon site and it is beginning to look like some nutjob blog slapped together with the assistance of The Globe tabloid. Are we being played or is this guy on the level? The presentation looks like a madman put it together.

  123. I said it yesterday, and I’ll say it again. It’ll be Chuck Hagel. That’s who BO wants, I’m sure.

Remember, voting for the war is bad only if you’re Hillary. Pro-life is fine unless you’re thinking of voting for McCain.

  124. Pat, I think you’ve nailed the dilemma. he can’t pick someone as vague/hopey/chancey as himself, he needs to add substance. but anyone with substance will outshine him and the ticket will look unbalanced.

    oooo, what to do????

  125. “Is the Picard song? I love that song. Listening to it now.”

Ugh, I’m awful at linking stuff. It was supposed to be the Picard song (or at least I could not open it in my browser).

On another note, I think McCain’s genuine war hero status is really the only thing keeping him competitive. I think that McCain choosing the green backdrop for his speech was an attempt to remind the audience of that.

  126. Pat Johnson — that Gore mailing was from the DSCC. Get your party organs straight! Yes, I returned mine as well in their postage-paid envelope w/ a ‘please remove.’

  127. I cannot watch it tomorrow, I will read the highlights online and then watch it when I am a bit more removed from all of this. If I watch, the tears will flow. But I have my Hillary in ’96 and my Hillary in ’08 pins showing wherever I go, and I hope one day I can add a Hillary in ’12 button too. I am SO proud of her, she has gone above and beyond what any of us could have expected and has stood strong like a rock in the midst of such irrational hatred and adversity. She is what courage looks like. She truly is.

“voting for the war is bad only if you’re Hillary”

    SO TRUE!

    Nice post

  129. Denver could be the ultimate kumbaya moment, the whole country gets initiated into the mile high club with a royal ****ing.

It could also be the ultimate in motivational seminars — Rev. Wrong could explain how to turn guilt into a gated multi-million dollar estate. Rezko could explain how to get the best government money can bribe. Tom Daschle could explain how to lose your home state with four times the money.

Sen. Aunt Claire McCaskill could do a vignette of her days on “Bewitched,” Arianna Huffpoop could conduct a marriage seminar on how to rape a gay husband and take it to the bank and the Brazile Nut could just be herself — I can’t think of higher irony. To close out the day, Dr. Demento Dean could screech the 48 states of his 50 state strategy.

  130. Get your party organs straight!

eeewww, that sounds gross. I think we’re dealing with the liver right about now.

  131. Still, Cannon may be on to something about the origins of the MO tape. Either the Republicans copied the plot idea about a “whitey” tape and used it on MO or the author, Stephen Frey, did a little research on Obama/Michelle and found some interesting plot ideas.

I’m going to pick up this book in the library to see whats inside.

  132. hir: Let me enumerate what I have cancelled so far: The Nation, Time, Newsweek, the DNC mailers, now the DSCC mailers. I no longer watch the cable news. Most of the blogs I roamed have been deleted from Bookmarks: Taylor Marsh, Tom Watson, Crooks and Liars, Huff Po, TPM, Media Matters, probably more. I am becoming a hermit.

  133. Prolix: And Donna B……..?

  134. Here is my evidence:

Kerry and Hagel penned an op-ed on Syria for the WSJ yesterday.

Arianna was on Leno two nights ago pushing Hagel for VP.

It will allow the pundits to ooze that BO is baking a ‘brave and bold’ selection, ‘out-of-the-box.’

That Hagel is pro-life is a passive-aggresive FU to pro-choice women (Dems love that, see Casey senate race).

    Any questions?

  135. Well, no worries then, ryan, as I had a bunch of obama supporters tell me and one of my sisters today that being a POW doesn’t make you a hero. We’re both anti-war marcher types and we stared at them dumbfounded, trying to figure out if they were kidding. they weren’t.

  136. JJ: I am just not sure. My emotions this past week, since Saturday at least, have been all over the place. I may only tune in hoping, hoping, hoping she is only suspending. Otherwise I just will be a complete puddle.

  137. Thanks, Ryan!

I love it. When he said “engage” I got a warm feeling, and then the “make it so” repeats… Hoo!

  138. Seriously: I had a bunch of obama supporters tell me and one of my sisters today that being a POW doesn’t make you a hero

    Oh. My. God.

  139. the whole idea of Hagel would be to draw enough disgruntled republicans that disgruntled democrats won’t be a factor.

  140. WS,

They don’t have nearly enough to finance the convention. Maybe BO will have to pay for everything himself. Gee I wonder why nobody is donating to the DNC, Howard? The same reason you will lose big in November. You bet on the wrong horse.

  141. Pat,

There’s no higher irony than someone who is in the can for the Big Zero, takes money from two networks for being uncommitted while she panders. From a motivational standpoint, how better to show a lack of integrity. I honestly think her next endorsement will be for Chinese dog food and toothpaste.

  142. John McCain is an idiot. Barack Obama is a crook. Big choices this November. And someone was pushing Cynthia McKinney but according to Joseph Cannon she is aligned with Farrakhan. That leaves Bob Barr. Barf bag anyone?

  143. prolix, don’t forget that all our senators are going to put on “bros before hos’ shirts and do a dance to “dirt off the shoulder,” they’ll go through all the main demographic groups in the country in turn, flash them each the finger, and yell, ‘#$%^ you!’

  144. Prolix: Or one of those vegetable cutter commercials, “All your for only $19.99! Call now and you will also receive a free copy of the Rev Wright’s greatest hits!”

  145. Seriously,

Won’t that be a reprise of what we just experienced?

  146. I may be showing some politically incorrect stripes here, but I see his cabinet consisting of the far left lunatic fringe.

I loved this one. He was talking about the corruption in Chicago and how it needed to be cleaned up. Like we are supposed to buy into the theory that he escaped from that atmosphere as clean as the driven snow. They backed him 100%. That spells payback time.

  147. All eyes will be on McCain’s VP pick.

    Obama has no good choices.

  148. I think about 30 people have been promised or names leaked to the press about the VP. Whatever state BO was in , the leading Dem was suddenly ” a possible VP candidate.” But doubt BO can even see anyone up there on stage with him but…. Michelle .

You know they will make the convention a state funeral for Ted. I’m not a big Kennedy fan, but I have been repelled at how the Kennedy legacy has been cashed in for this nothing . I remember how the GOP kept calling Bush ” another Churchill ” ugh

  149. I can take nearly any pick, but the only that would kill me, the only one–which means it will be leaked tomorrow–that would do men in for November is…Evan bayh.

  150. Dear God, that second video and music was absolutely fabulous. Whoever put that one together should get a standing ovation.

I really hope Senator Clinton has a chance to view it. It’s a massive tribute to her and eloquently expresses how many of us feel–mad as hell but also proud to have a woman like this in our midst, someone who has stood up, day-after-day for so many people who could not. Mark my words, the Dems are going to regret what they’ve wrought in November.

    But the video? Great work!

  151. At least Laura Bush found a place in the WH to sit and read. We saw little of her. But I think Michele will be front and center much to my dislike. And the press will be commenting on her “Jackie O” persona. Which is only fair since he has been compared to JFK.

Did anyone see where the press is sending a protest to the Obama campaign about last night?

  152. Pat-I’m from GA. Bob Barr-NOT!

  153. why Regency? I really know next to nothing about him

  154. You know what, we may begin to miss Bush/Cheney when this is over. After awhile we got used to the criminality. What else was new? At least it gave us something to talk about. Like how much better it will be when the Dems take back the WH. We may look back as see this as the good old days.

  155. With all deference to my friends here, I believe it will be Richardson. I believe he sold his soul for it and that’s why Carville got so exorcised.

  156. Pat-a protest to O’s campaign????

  157. Bob Barr was one of the leaders in the Clinton impeachment. He had about 3 wives himself. A complete hypocrite.

  158. Lakota: Not sure what you mean? Protest what?

  159. Pat Johnson — Cynthia McKinney is someone I’ve always liked, even if I don’t always agree w/ what she says or does. That the dailykos ‘netroots’ hate her is a special bonus. Does this help?

During the 2000 presidential campaign, McKinney wrote that “Al Gore’s Negro tolerance level has never been too high. I’ve never known him to have more than one black person around him at any given time.” The Gore campaign was outraged and responded by pointing out that Gore’s campaign manager, Donna Brazile, was black.

  160. ***definitely worth the read***

    http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/06/06/more-thoughts/

Here’s a taste of the contents:

“And, if the RBC had not acted completely immorally and unethically by stealing her votes, and giving votes to Obama he did not earn, she would be in the race, still. But that was the point, see – to make sure she COULD NOT WIN. Obama, on the other hand, has limped across the finish line set up by his handlers. Clinton has won far more of the primary contests over the past four months, not that the DNC or the MSM seem to care about THOSE pesky facts, and would be far closer to the necessary delegates needed had the RBC not stolen her votes AND her delegates…

Just as an example, and a tip of the hat to Big Tent Democrat at TalkLeft for pointing this out, when Reagan was running against Ford, a sitting president, the nomination went to the Convention EVEN THOUGH Ford had both the popular vote lead, and enough delegates. You read that right – the fight went to the Convention EVEN THOUGH Ford was ahead in both categories. And, as we all know, Kennedy took HIS fight to the Convention floor even though HE was down over 700 delegates. So, even though NEITHER Clinton nor Obama could reach the goal line without the aid of the Superdelegates, Clinton was SHOVED out of the door, insulting her 18 million supporters along with her.

Frankly, we have all been treated like shit by the DNC, the MSM, and the Obamatrons, who, I might add, are the most ungracious winners I have ever seen. It is EXACTLY like dealing with Bush Republicans. They continue to attack, attack, attack Clinton supporters, not realizing, I guess, that they cannot win without us. And without accepting that many of us will NEVER vote for this incredibly arrogant, flawed, inexperienced, sexist, homophobe they are propping up. Never.”

    STAY IN THIS, HILLARY!
    KEEP YOUR DELEGATES!
    DON’T END – JUST SUSPEND.
YOU”VE EARNED THE RIGHT TO GO TO DENVER WITH YOUR DELEGATES!!
WE THE PEOPLE HAVE GOT YOUR BACK!

    PUMA!!

  161. WS — Forget the book. I saw the supposedly parallel passage, and there’s nothing in common except for the word “Whitey” — uttered by the candidate, not the wife.

  162. Chuck Hagel.

Actually this is a good pic for BO because Hagel being GOP, it won’t piss off the jealous , geezer elite Dems, like picking one among their own rotting hulks would….

Frankly the Dems don’t deserved Hill.

  163. O my God, let it be Richardson. I’m a deist, I don’t read the Bible but even I know enough to be to able to stomach Judas Iscariot. If they data says that BO’s ticket is toast now it will be French (or should I say “Mexican”) toast then.

  164. Pat Johnson…the mere mention of Donna Brazilla has my blood pressure shot up again. I think she and MO are related, they are both angry and mean women.

  165. Lakota: Sorry, it was an earlier comment. The press who are paid to follow the Obama campaign were herded onto the Obama plane for a flight back to Chicago. They asked where Obama was. No answer. Not until the got off the plane were they told that he was still in Washington. They were furious. All the networks and some of the print press got together and wrote a scathing letter to the Obama campaign saying their reporters were duped and should always remain where the candidate was. They are paying for the privilege. Of course he was in Washington meeting with Hillary. Just the beginning of the Obama control of the press.

  169. Hello. Another one of the 18 million here. I’ve been a lurker and am coming out of the closet. I’m with you. It’s strangely liberating not to feel intense personal interest in the general election. I’ve never felt this way before. What will I do with my free time in September, October, and November? Anyone recommend any good books?

  170. the big positive thing about Laura Bush is that she was nowhere near as obnoxious as her mother-in-law. the big negative thing is that she did nothing positive, negative, or in between. she’s lived on the public dole for eight years, and contributed nothing. glad she found a reading nook, sorry we paid for it.

  171. Obama is so wonderful he could run alone. But someone half jokingly commented that he should choose Oprah to prop up the female vote. That’ll do it for me, you betcha!!!

  172. Seriously,

It might be a reprise of “Godspell” but this time the tables are turned on Judas.

  173. He’s like one of those guys who marry 8 people and they all come on Springer. Also I read he’s offered the Secretary of Sate to Kerry, Biden and Dodd lol! who knew the post calls for three people

  174. Fiver: I recommend Blackwater, the latest James Frey book which is wonderful even though the other one was villified. Any Sue Grafton series. I have a pile next to my chair that I will have plenty of time for over the summer since I have no interest in this coming election if Obama is the nominee.

  175. Pat-at 12:28, you said, “Did anyone see where the press is sending a protest to the Obama campaign about last night?” (Sorry, I had to go back and look. For some reason, not able to copy text.) That’s what I was asking about.

  176. Biden knows his stuff. Dodd too. I suppose I could throw Kerry in there but I simply cannot stand him. I want my 2004 vote and contributions back.

  177. Seriously: I had a bunch of obama supporters tell me and one of my sisters today that being a POW doesn’t make you a hero

I had an Obamabot (Caucasian) tell me and a group of Hillary supporters at my county caucus that we owe it to black people to have Obama as president. We all stared at him, mouth gaped, speechless…all for 10 seconds before we let him have it.

  178. hlr–I love McKinney, and god, i hated how the dkooks treated her, but it’s hardly surprising in that frat house. That was when racism was just as acceptable as sexism to those noobs, which it will be again as long as it’s directed at anyone but obama. I wish i could vote for her, but mccain is the most direct vote I can make, i think he can win MA.

  179. Sorry, Pat. I just saw you response. Thank you. We need a Chat Room here!

  180. Lakota: Scroll back up to my answer at 12:28.

  181. weren”t Biden and Dodd, among others, some of the recipients of the MI votes that were awarded to Obama?

  182. Excellent! Thanks, Pat. Since the Obama campaign has made it so very clear that they don’t need or want my help — their college kids, Internet outreach, web donors, and newly registered voters are enough — I’ll feel no guilt in picking up Blackwater. I haven’t read a book in ages … the luxury!

  183. Kerry would sue up the wind surfing vote.

And don’t forget Bradley — what could be fitting for a bitter misogynictic pit bull — homeland security?

  184. This Hillary Clinton supporter gets it, too:

    http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/06/06/they-certainly-are-presumptuous-aren’t-they/

“Our party wannabe puppetmasters over the democratic electorate of Hillary supporters think we want her to be his VP.

She doesn’t want him, and he doesn’t want her, so stop your damn manipulation.

We are not stupid, we will not vote for Obama, got it??

Most won’t vote for him even if he begged Hillary publicly to be on the ticket, so I suggest you try a new tactic, like counting the god damn votes.

This has moved way beyond Hillary and what you think she can “make” us do. John Conyers thinks all she has to do is tell us to support Obama, well John, you and many of your friends have entered altered reality.

Nothing Hillary tells us to do or begs us for will matter. We love her, we admire her, we know she’s the best person for the presidency, but this is not about Hillary, got it.

It’s about Obama, his tactics, his supporters, his surrogates, the media and people like you who don’t have one god damn bit of respect for us and think we can be hearded around. Listen, we are not Obamabots, we have minds, we think, we are immune to the mind meld. We have our own minds and our minds have told us you do not respect us and therefore you do not deserve respect back.

This has gone way beyond Hillary, you insatiable power lords, the plebians are revolting.”

    PUMA!!

  185. Why doesn’t he just pick Gloria Steinem for VP! I have to say it was another twist of the knife in my heart when I heard she was supporting O now!

  186. Is Ralph Nader running this year? Seriously-and I never thought I’d say this-but I might vote for him.
Forgive me, Ralph (you egomaniac), for doubting you when you said there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the two Parties.
As far as the Dixie Chicks go, I’d be amazed if they weren’t BO supporters. It would be professional suicide for an Actor or Musician to publicly support Hillary Clinton.
    Some democracy, huh?

  187. Farrakhan is heading up Homleand Security. He has his own army. Those spooky people who wear sunglasses at night and bowties.

    Rezko for HUD.

  188. Sweetie, Eva Longoria supports our girl!

  189. Seriously — Cynthia McKinney’s heart is in the right place. The expression is overused, but she speaks truth to power.

She recently did something that really, really impressed me. There’s a woman in WV who was essentially tortured, as far as I’m concerned. Without going into detail, I’ll just mention that Cynthia stepped in to help while very few other ppl did.

That was when racism was just as acceptable as sexism to those noobs, which it will be again as long as it’s directed at anyone but obama.

This is exactly correct. In fact, BO empowers them to treat others even worse than they already do.

mccain is the most direct vote I can make, i think he can win MA.

I get that, and I agree that MA is in reach for McCain. I actually think Olympia Snowe might be a very interesting VP choice if he wants to go for New England at the expense of a few other states. Remember that Joe Lieberman is helping him in CT — he could go for CT/ME/NH/MA.

I’m in MD, so unless it’s close (doubtful), I’ll show Cynthia some love.

  190. SweetSue: She did get Jack Nicholson and America Ferraro. Don’t forget Barbra.

  191. I still favor casey, it’s the tall, skinny, gaping idiot ticket. They can hold joint press conferences where they gulp in tandem to produce jaunty tunes.

  195. Pat,

Rezko for HUD — nicely done. LOL

  196. I was a little flummoxed by to find my humble site compared with a tabloid. After all, TPM and the Cheeto are discussing — in far more breathless and inflammatory terms — the odd parallels between Frey’s book and what some are pleased to call “Whiteygate.” So I thought I would chime in as well.

My main purpose was to point out that, in the past, we’ve seen far more striking examples of literature offering what seemed to be prophecies of future “real world” events.

I talked about the 1972 novel “Black Abductor,” which offered a surprisingly detailed account of the Patty Hearst kidnapping before it happened. I also talked about the famous novel “Futility,” which seemed to forecast the Titanic disaster. And of course, many will recall that episode of “The Lone Gunmen” which seemed to predict 9/11.

Coincidence, all of it. As far as I know. Thus, Frey’s novel may also be coincidence.

Is the topic of literary coincidence so inherently tabloid-esque as to be an unacceptable subject for a blog post?

Or is this another instance where someone “read” words other than those which appeared on screen? That sort of thing has been occurring a lot, lately…

  197. This is a GREAT video; maybe you’ve seen it already? I loved it.

“We aren’t going to take it anymore”

    Please pass it along.

  198. OT, but yes! I just watched the rerun of Battlestar Galactica (the final season) and Laura has just told Bill she loved him for the first time. *dances* And he said, “About time.”

*swoons* Forget the General Election, I’m gonna be watching Aaron Sorkin’s greatest hits and Battlestar Galactica until Thanksgiving.

  201. Annetoo-I read on two threads on another blog that Gloria had endorsed him. Sorry I can’t give you the link. It was, for me, a real kick in the stomach. To think of all the years, I had her up at the top of my list! She even came out earlier this year against the sexism in this campaign. I thought she was a Hillary supporter, for sure. The hypocrisy just doesn’t end these days.

  202. hlr, that’s why I love her, she’s got guts. she speaks out when the other dems just cave in.and she does it knowing nobody’s going to have her back. I’m going to suggest her for anyone who can’t bring themmselves to go for Mccain. nh will definitely go for Mccain, IMO. ME is a maybe, ct might be a little tougher.

  203. Ha, tb, I had a similar experience. I gave a ride to my boyfriend’s Obamabot friends a few weeks ago and as soon as they got in, one of them picked up my Hillary sign and asked coyly, Oh, who supports Hillary Clinton?

I knew what was coming…as soon as I proclaimed my unwavering support, she said, but you’ll vote for Obama since he is getting the nomination, right? My boyfriend (who supports Obama for lord knows what reasons but makes sure to defend Hillary) winced as soon as she said it, her “tone” was so confrontational. I gave it right back to her and just said “Never.”

She was silent for about 5 minutes and then started talking about how I really should because the Clintons made so many racially insensitive statements so how could I be mad at him for anything his campaign said. Funny, I was the only brown person in that car, but I was being lectured by a girl who has never experienced racism that I owed it to Obama and to all African Americans to give him my vote. Nothing else mattered to her, not the disenfranchisement of two states (the rulez, you know), not the unfair treatment Hillary received, not the refusal of the DNC to speak out against sexism (so the news was harsh on her, but that has NOTHING to do with why she lost). I was just being irrational and as she got out of the car, she said, “Well, I am sure you will come around, we can’t have John McCain.”

    Don’t bet on it, sweetie.

  204. Joseph Cannon-I appreciated what you wrote. Thought it was interesting. Just can’t help myself from hoping, however, that there really is a tape of MO!

  205. True, Hillary does have some real heavyweights behind her. Idols like Barbra and Jack have all the f!@# you money in the world and can follow their consciences.
A special shoutout to Eva L.
When listening to songs like “Fighter” or “I’m A Survivor”,I think what great anthems they’d make for our girl and then realize but that would be the end of Beyonce or Christina.

  206. What would kick me in the stomach would be if because of disgruntled feeling Cynthia McKinney was the first woman to win a state in the GE, not Hillary.

Me, angry? No. Bitter and angry? Very.

  207. regarding Daily Kos, IMHO there was plenty of racism after they all started worshipping Obama. It usually took the form of posting some egregiously racist stereotype or racist “code word” (many of which I was completely unaware of, being under 30 and not a historian of the subject) in reference to Obama. Then they would yell and scream about how Hillary made them think of it.

  208. JJ: Funny, I was the only brown person in that car, but I was being lectured by a girl who has never experienced racism that I owed it to Obama

The obama campaign has produced a white liberal vigilante group who’ve appointed themselves the deciders of what constitutes racism. The funny thing is, that this same group would like to see actual black people tone it down with the grievance stuff, you know? For that reason alone, I’m voting against BO.

  209. Steinem also said she’d be happy in an America where Nancy Pelosi remains speaker of the House, Hillary runs the Senate and Barack Obama is president.

Help. I’m glad she’d be happy . All this Hill will run the Senate talk…..Has anyone told Harry Reid? He might be interested . Plus how can Hill run the Senate when they all stabbed her in the …well I can’t say back, it was in broad daylight ….stabbed her in the heart?
    ugh…

  210. Oops, comment ended up in spam filter.. one more time:

regarding the DKos, IMHO there was plenty of rac1sm after they all started worshipping Obama. It usually took the form of posting some egregiously rac1st stereotype or rac1st “code word” (many of which I was completely unaware of, being under 30 and not a historian of the subject) in reference to Obama. 211. Regency — if Cynthia were to win a state in the GE, Hillary would LHAO.

  212. Annetoo, I’d say it wasn’t the heart, but right in the throat. She found her voice and they silenced it. How else to do that but a shot straight to the voicebox?

  213. Lakota, Gloria Steinem is a fervent Hillary supporter and did lots of Women for Hillary events for her in many states. She also spoke out against the sexism. BUT, she also said very early on that if and when Obama because the official nominee she would campaign enthusiastically for him.

Personally, I strongly disagree with the approach feminists are using. Organizations like NOW and Emily’s List are fantastic, but they are too one dimensional. What happened during this election was HORRIFIC in terms of progress for women. And while these organizations spoke out against the sexism, rather softly and a little too late, they aren’t willing to go further. If they threatened to lead their members in a DNC sit out this November, I guarantee you, women’s concerns would be heard loud and clear. It’s because the DNC knows they will play nice for access and help with reproductive issues. I don’t think we are going to see real change until women start playing hardball. So, I wish Steinem and others had taken the lead on this and said wait a minute, we have real concerns here about the DNCs behavior during this primary and silence in the face of sexism and aren’t going to jump on board until our concerns are heard. But they will never take this more radical approach for fear of getting locked out.

Somehow I don’t think that would be her immediate reaction. It wouldn’t be mine certainly.

  215. Lakota in GA, on June 7th, 2008 at 1:01 am

Gloria even went on the road for Hill in March. people very high up , want BO. Now is it so he will lose to MaCain , or do they really want BO? How the MSM plays it will tell you . If they start derailing the stright talk express…that would be interesting

Sweetie Sue…it would be fun to see the B boys spinning a Nunn VP pick as ” brave and thinking out of the box ” lol!! ” Actually I thought Nunn was dead! Who knew?!

  216. Regency — it would mean BO had no chance of winning b/c she’d take enough votes to throw it to McCain. And BO can’t blame it on racism. That’s good enough for a big laugh.

Hillary found her voice and I found mine again. Thank you, Hillary! I ‘m experiencing feelings about feminism and my place in this world that I haven’t allowed myself to feel for thirty years!

  218. It’s kind of like Kerry acting as if clinton should just step aside because her being in the race is impeding civil rights. i respect wanting an african american president, however, i don’t remember kerry stepping aside and endorsing sharpton in 2004. in fact, I remember him pretty much blowing off the suggestion that he should pick an african american running mate.

  219. The obama campaign has produced a white liberal vigilante group who’ve appointed themselves the deciders of what constitutes racism.

Yeah. This is poison. They are going to keep it up from now until August and then if he’s nominated, til November. I can see it coming. It’s already happening on the blogs and in the media, not just political blogs, but everywhere – Obama fans accusing whole states and demographic groups of being racist, accusing individuals of being racist, and on and on.

What they don’t seem to understand is how profoundly insulting and infuriating it is, to be called racist and having done nothing whatsoever to deserve it. Aside from, I guess, voting for the wrong candidate and being from the wrong part of the country. It’s the kind of insult one does not forget for a very, very long time, and it will lose votes and alienate people from the Democrats for good.

Meanwhile the GOP are astroturfing to make sure this is exactly what happens, because I’m already seeing Fox News and rightwingers drop hints about affirmative action, and people posing as Obama supporters posting really strongly worded (so much so you know it’s not honest) “Obama is the next Malcom X” type of stuff on news sites.

  220. JJ — let me add something. I spent a lot of time for the campaign in two states — one of them IA. I’m sorry, EL did next to nothing in IA. They put up recipes on the internet for potential caucus-goers — I mean, WTF?

  221. JJ, on June 7th, 2008 at 1:13 am Said:

Indeed. and the funny part is, that’s how they got their start ! By play hardball.! …they seem to have forgotten their roots, just as a new generation is discovering them! I have seen” post fem” young women suddenly get it lol!

  222. I got into an argument with two white acquaintances of mine last week when I told them I hated how Obama had exploited the hopes and fears of the black community. Lord have mercy, they tried to tell me that I didn’t know what I was talking about.

    I. went. off.

I told them that if BO was a white guy with the same resume they would have never taken him seriously, and they needed to talk to a therapist about their white guilt instead of helping to inflict this incompetent fraud on people who need real help. That they had a fucking lot of nerve to ride BO’s dick so hard when they don’t even talk to the black people they see every day. That a blackish man had played their pseudo-liberal asses for fools with his bullshit talk about hope and change while he’s been in bed with the crooked Chicago political machine and Wall Street.

I didn’t mean to make the woman cry, but I had had enough.

  223. Annetoo- What happened during this election was HORRIFIC in terms of progress for women.

I find it pathetic that they’re bleating that Hillary’s run did something great for women. Are you kidding me? She lost to someone just past the state senate. She was trashed up and down, left and right as soon as an opening was available. On top of that, she was punished for being married. Hello?

  224. JJ–we shouldn’t have to rely on these groups, though. It really horrifies me that not one person in this party has spoken out about the sexism. nobody who doesn’t like in FL or MI thinks disenfranchising them is any big deal. Where are the moral voices on that? carter, the international elections monitor? I swar that I heard Toobin say today that ‘Obama is quick to acknowledge his debt to people like John lewis and anny lou hamer.’ fanny lou hamer?

    Too.Much.Irony.

  225. Fuck that, Hillary didn’t lose. She got Gored because the people in chrage were greedy. They picked one guy who can’t win over a women with a mandate who was all set to win.

  226. I agree that we shouldn’t need anyone, Seriously, but it is just that these organizations already have an organization, a member list, etc, they already have political clout and they will be listened to right away, they will not have to wait until November when the country gets to pick between two bad choices. Had Emily’s List spoken out against the sexism very early on and told the DNC they needed to start a media boycott against it, or else, just like they did with Fox, I believe the outcome of this election could have been very different.

Annetoo, I’d say it wasn’t the heart, but right in the throat. She found her voice and they silenced it. How else to do that but a shot straight to the voicebox?

Well they are doing their damnest to silence her . How Hill talks up BO, we will know to the extent she’s concerned for even her Senate seat . She may do the unity thing considerable more than we would like, but I trust she’s doing what she has to…whatever that is.
However I bad feel about it , I think how must Hill feel? ….lord

  228. The Civil Rights fathers and mothers would be horrified at the idea of Floridian voters being counted as “half people.”

  229. JJ,

I agree with you about the organizations. They are going to regret their greed and cowardice come November.

  230. sonya — Paul Street had an interesting article up on BAR — The Deeper Racism in Iowa Beneath the White Obama Craze.” It’s worth a read.

Some ‘progressive’ white Iowan BO supporters were discussing the article and came to the following conclusions:

    1. Paul Street is a complainer in the mold of Sharpton/Jesse/RevWright.

    2. That the sentencing disparity is highest in the nation in IA is due to the empirical evidence that IA’s black community is particularly dysfunctional and irresponsible. Said empirical evidence was never provided.

  231. hlr, I agree with your take on these fake platitudes about how great Hillary’s run is for women. Excuse me, no matter how good she was, no matter how hard she tried, no matter how many times she rose above you, you were DETERMINED to hold her down. There was nothing she could have done, any of us could have done, to change that. What is the message to little girls? You can only dream about being president, sweetie, we can’t actually let you get there. I was experiencing serious grief the day before yesterday and my boyfriend was trying to be kind, but making things much worse. He kept assuring me that there will be another woman who will become President, don’t worry. Excuse me, first, women are interchangeable. She isn’t a goldfish. You can’t just flush her down the toilet and put another woman in the tank and expect that we don’t know the difference. I didn’t pick her because she was a woman, that was just icing on the cake. Second, she was SAVAGED more often than not in the most gendered of tones. If any woman even comes this far in the near future, she will also be savaged. The only women who can get by the sexism are those who do not threaten the status quo and who will do as the Boyz Club tells them.

  232. I find it pathetic that they’re bleating that Hillary’s run did something great for women.
    She did. The DNC didn’t.

  233. excuse me, women are not interchangeable

  234. The Press always says the Dem ran ” a horrible campaign” ….forgetting they hyper trashed them from day one. Gore, Kerry. Hill . The press will not take responsibility for their stravaging ,,,nope. it’s all the candidate fault!!
Daily Howler ran a good article about that
    which Anglachelg posted http://anglachelg.blogspot.com/

  235. I have suggestions for excellent video songs – K.T. Oslen’s “Eighties Ladies” and Sugarland’s “Settlin”. Strong women’s songs – I am really bummed about Natalie Maine going for Obama.

  236. concerned for her senate seat? i doubt it, what are they gonna do, run dean?

  237. hlr,

I am not surprised. I can practically read their minds about how “different” BO is from the regular black folks in Iowa. Until Rev. Wright showed his ass.

I’ve got to get back over to BAR because it’s practically the only black blog I’ve kept on my bookmarks.

I don’t go to Field Negro or Skeptical Brotha anymore because the bullshit was too much, although Skeptical Brotha seemed to fall a little out of love with BO when he showed himself to be the punk he is and denounced Farrakhan during that debate.

  238. The only women who can get by the sexism are those who do not threaten the status quo and who will do as the Boyz Club tells them.
JJ, why does the image of Pamela Anderson-barbed wire tatoo and all- pop up?

  239. SweetieSue!, on June 7th, 2008 at 1:37 am Said:
I find it pathetic that they’re bleating that Hillary’s run did something great for women.
    She did. The DNC didn’t.

Exactly. She’s too good for them. Her run has shown up the entire upper crust. It’s not a pretty picture.
One of the reasons they wanted her to stop! Now the curtain has been ripped aside and nothing can draw it back

  240. I am looking over the GOP’s “meet barack obama” site that bostonboomer posted earlier this evening. I have to say, the GOP really hired a talented web designer on this thing. The trouble is, I wonder if they stepped back and thought about the fact that the main photo makes him look pretty cool. Not a good plan for an attack site. They seem to lack Fox News’ evil talents for picking the most unflattering images at all times.

  241. The Senate stuff is bull since she doesn’t come up for reelection until 2012. They’d better hope she still wants to be a Senator after this. She should just let her seat go Repug and let them deal with that. The majority in Congress is fragile. But she’s rich and affluent. She’ll survive the bullshit. They won’t get re-elected.

  242. Seriously, on June 7th, 2008 at 1:40 am Said:
concerned for her senate seat? i doubt it, what are they gonna do, run dean?

    lol!

But I heard it was threatened…if she didn’t suspend .

  243. JJ — I’ll tell you when I really lost it. The articles that suggested that Hillary should run for NY-Gov to get the ‘executive experience’ she needs.

Seriously — well, you know that about 25% of NY’s Dem primary vote is black. Now add that so-called progressives hate her. The latter wasn’t a problem in the past because upstate and the black vote carried her.

This morning, when that New Jersey weasel accused her of racist tactics, my immediate thought was that BO didn’t get what he wanted last night. NJ is a neighboring state, so a NJ pol will get coverage in the nyc area. Threatening her with her seat is definitely one of the tactics they’re using.

  244. JJ–no kidding. not only would any other woman be savaged by this party that relies on women for its electoral survival, not only are women not interchangeable–but, um, there IS NO OTHER WOMAN.

What other woman has the resume, the experience, the presence to become a leading candidate? in all these years, we’ve had a grand total of one woman with a chance. so who’s the next one? oh, not her, her husbands in politics too. that one’s voice is too high pitched, that one’s is too deep. i don’t like her hair. she’s only got three times tehhe experience of the average male candidate.

give me a break. there isn’t anyone who’d rise to the level of a threat and have the party close ranks to destroy her reputation and integrity.

  245. sonya — SB is all drama. FN, unreadable.

Many of the Clinton criticisms would form the basis of a good back-and-forth, if people were so inclined — but most of it is so wildly out-of-context and one-sided that there is no starting point, and therefore, no discussion possible.

  246. She should just let her seat go Repug

lol! That would teach ’em !
What’s interesting is Bobby Kennedy Jr was said to be interested in her seat if she /when she goes forward.
Yet Ted pulled out all the stops….that must hurt

  247. hlr,

The lack of critical thinking skills is heartbreaking.

I read SB for the last time when posters were saying that the reason Maxine Waters and Diane Watson and other black congresswomen were supporting Hillary was because they had pushed up on Obama at the CBC weekend, and he refused to have sex with them.

  248. In moderation, I’m reposting:

JJ — I’ll tell you when I really lost it. The articles that suggested that Hillary should run for NY-Gov to get the ‘executive experience’ she needs.

Seriously — well, you know that about 25% of NY’s Dem primary vote is black. Now add that so-called progressives hate her. The latter wasn’t a problem in the past because upstate and the black vote carried her.

NJ is a neighboring state, so a NJ pol will get coverage in the nyc area. Threatening her with her seat is definitely one of the tactics they’re using.

  249. Seriously, LOL, i made that point to my boyfriend (he is really a wonderful guy, just a bit clueless on this) and you know what woman he named? Neapolitino, the BO backing AZ governor. I had to get off the phone after that. He said, “She’s kind of a fighter.” What a stiupid, stupid suggestion.

Women will remember that Neapolitino did not stand with them during HRCs run.

  250. We need a front page article that states that

CLINTON IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIVISIONS IN THE PARTY

The media wants to blame our division on the fact that she didn’t get out on Tuesday.

    Bullsh*t.

The divisions are due to the DNC, to the media, to complete disgusting pigs like KO, to sexism, to Obama’s insulting of voters

But CNN and the rest of the media want to get their last digs in on Clinton.

I am never spending a minute watching those channels again.

  251. We’re making a difference! Check out The Week magazine:

While the media and political establishments reacted vehemently to any hint of racism against Obama, they were complicitly silent when pundits likened her to Glenn Close’s spurned homicidal maniac in Fatal Attraction. Democratic leaders also kept worrying aloud that blacks would “protest and stay home” if Clinton got the nomination, ignoring the likelihood that white women – three times more numerous than black voters – would do the same if she lost. Now Democrats expect women to swallow their disappointment and line up behind the chosen male. But this time it might not happen. “Women are angry,” and the ones who were shouting “McCain ’08!” last week may very well have been “speaking for a multitude.”

  252. sonya: pushed up on Obama at the CBC weekend

    You know, I remember that.

The lack of critical thinking skills is heartbreaking.

There’s a certain posse that brought that about. Showed up right before BO announced, around Nov-Dec.

  253. Sonya–ugh.

hlr–that’s a good point. And it’s not like the Republicans will cross over to save her from a primary challenge. 🙂 i’ve got to hope, though, that these high handed tactics will backfire and motivate people to push back against them. it’s amazing that progressives have been trying to organize forever with no luck and now it seems like the blogger dudes have his airtight strategy to get whatever they want. weird.

  254. And the other problem for a woman in the future is that she will have to go above and beyond to prove her national security chops. Hillary is the only woman who has that – women like Neapolitino do not have the national security credentials. It is AMAZING that no one ever questioned her toughness, her readiness to be commander-in-chief, that was a given. THAT is a hue accomplishment for a woman. On the other hand, of course, any man is better than even the most qualified woman, so we pick a freshman senator with less than one term in the senate with ZERO national security credentials and no credibility on the issue….grreeaatt.

hlr, I suspect they are threatening her senate seat too and I hope she says to hell with you. these democrats are deranged and twisted. why are they saying she needs executive experience when they are about to run a man with no experience of any kind except for “community organizer” and part time state senator. Whatever.

  255. I liked SB during the deval patrick race, when I was also in my Obama flirtation/anybody but Hillary phase. 🙂

  256. donnadarko, is that an oped?Who is the author?

  257. JJ–yep, Neapolitano will get 2%, safe choice.

  258. Seriouly,

Yeah, that was before SB lost his mind was still “skeptical.”

  259. Heh, seriously, seriously. Nobody gives Hillary credit for the AMAZINGNESS that she has accomplished, which is rising despite the bullshit thrown at her from every direction during this campaign and over the past 16 years. I really don’t need any of these creeps in the media talking about how much Hillary helped their little girls when they crapped on her every step of the way.

  260. Totally OT, but can coachroaches fly? i went to hit this scary looking bug and it flew away.

  261. night all

  262. Seriously, yes some cockroaches can fly. Hate it. Duck!

  263. sonya, yeah, i remember he was anti-hillary but not fanatical about it and wasn’t like all hail Obama or anything then.

JJ, i wish they’d just back the hell off, too. she’s been through enough and has not one damn obligation to this party, back the hell off. she is a party loyalist, she’ll bust her ass for obama, i know, but LEAVE HER BE!

  264. Basically this run has pointed out the extent of the degenerate state we are in. I expect the Goths any day
now . However nothing can take away what Hill has done. Amazing .

  265. Okay, that totally sucks, but thanks for the information. 🙂 la la, i do not have roaches!

  266. I want to wake up in time to watch Hillary in the morning, so I’ve got to write some pages before I go to bed.

    Good night, everybody.

  267. I should be clear — Nov/Dec ’06.

    sonya, seriously —

On this issue of seat-threats. Let’s forget about Hillary for a moment. I don’t have to tell you about gerrymandered Dem districts that don’t serve the interests of black constituents but are wholly dependent on them for D-power.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this primary (and the only BO-associated phenomenon I approve of) is how politicians like Steny Hoyer, who depends on part of PG County in MD for his seat, must have his knees a-knocking. There are so many senators and congresspersons who depend on the black vote.

So the million dollar question is — are they going to stand for it? Or are we going to see pushback?

  268. oh noooooo, sonya, come back just for a minute.

  269. All I have to say to this is HELL NO, it won’t work and will only make people more angry. It makes my blood boil just thinking about it.

“Ms. Steinem advised that Mr. Obama deliver the same sort of ambitious
speech about sex that he did on race. An aide said the campaign was
    considering such an address.”

    http://www.nytimes. com/2008/ 06/07/us/ politics/ 07women.html? pagewanted= 1&ref=politics

  270. JJ, yeah, page 16. I left out the first sentence of the paragraph:

You’d have to be wearing blinders, though, to not notice that Clinton was up against a double standard.

It took them this long to realize there are three times more white women than black voters. My god. It follows from that paragraph they should “make” Clinton the nominee since 3 times as many voters would stay home.

  271. We had to say it over and over and over. Isn’t it logical now to “make” Clinton the nominee? *eye roll*

  272. Ms. Steinem advised that Mr. Obama deliver the same sort of ambitious speech about sex that he did on race.

    This is just getting abusive.

  273. Seriously Donna ridiculous. And if Obama NOW delivers a speech on gender inequality, I swear to god, I will flip. Just flip. It would be INSULTING to have him speechify about something he knows NOTHING about, NOTHING about, and no, having a wife and daughters does not mean that you understand. He practiced sexism, he benefited from sexism and said nothing about it for six months, AND NOW HE IS SUPPOSED TO GIVE SOME MAGICAL SPEECH TO HEAL ALL WOUNDS?

Steinem needs to step back from the kool-aid for real. I don’t know if it is just me, but such a move would make me positively LIVID, just LIVID, the sheer hypocrisy of it. If anyone knows how to contact Steinem, please do so and tell her this is INSULTING.

  274. I saw someone suggest earlier that bo should promise to reintroduce teh ERA.

can you say I’m not an idiot and wouldn’t trust him with a 10 foot pole? And yeah, how about not a speech but an apology? How about calling off Frank and rangel and all these whiners who feel she hasn’t grovelled enough yet?

  275. Another aspect that’s frightening is that the cure to all of our woes is “Obama gives a speech.”

    Gas prices are at $7/hr!
    Obama gives a speech.

    Wealth inequality rising!
    Obama gives a speech

  276. Very insulting. AFTER she leaves the race. No shame. The opposite of everything is true.

  277. hlr–what I don’t get though, is that African Americans are just as ignored/taken for granted as every other part of the Dem base. if these majority black districts are so politically potent in Dem politicians’ estimation, how come Dem politicians don’t seem to care? they get the same treatment as everybody else, shut up, where you gonna go.

  278. Charlie Cook writes:
….If I were Hillary Clinton, I would bow out over the next few days, take a well-earned vacation and catch up on sleep.

After that, she needs to spend the rest of the summer and fall campaigning for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and paying off her multimillion-dollar campaign debt.

No one would be able to say that Hillary and Bill Clinton didn’t do all they could to help Obama win the general election. And in all honesty, she could also be praying every night that he loses, so she could give folks the “I told you so” look and have another shot in 2012.

In the long haul, if the Clintons handle this right, she can strengthen her position in the party and he can begin the rehabilitation of his own place in the party. Handled badly, neither will ever be able to fully recover…….

I think he has something here I am not one wanting her cleaning up this Dem fraud, that would be like blessing the tactic’s and drag her down with most folks now believe their is some thing very wrong at the DNC and Party Leadership……let the Obamatrons defeat themselves McCain for 4 years is doable…

    Hillary in 12…

  279. Thank God we have the menfolk to dominate this discussion — we wouldn’t want someone like that awful Hillareeee to speak on behalf of women and herself.

  280. LOL Yeah, hillary has a plan to lower gas prices–Obama has the power of bumper sticker slogans! And big donations from oil companies!

  281. I don’t know what the hell Steinem is thinking, if she really thinks this is a good idea, she needs to hang out with the everyday women folk more. She is dead wrong about this and I am shocked and insulted at this suggestion. I cannot believe how strong my reaction is. I was about to sleep, but this just made me LIVID. HILLARY can speak for herself when it comes to a grand speech on gender, thankyouverymuch, she already did it in China when Obama was a nobody.

  282. In the long haul, if the Clintons handle this right, she can strengthen her position in the party and he can begin the rehabilitation of his own place in the party. Handled badly, neither will ever be able to fully recover…….

yeah, and charlie cook is another idiot who endorsed obama because his underage child likes him. The media and Obots are not ‘the party.” she does not need to be assimilated into the Borg to reach nirvana.

  283. Seriously — it’s not the majority-black districts I’m talking about.

Remember that every white poltician has to get thru a primary first. Steny Hoyer’s district is about 50% black in the *primary.* Think of Cohen in Memphis.

Then in GEs, both Dem senators and reps depend on the black vote. Let’s see … Landrieu, Cardin, Rendell, Strickland, need I go on?

Big shot Van Hollen? They re-did the district lines to put a bunch of low-risers from majority-black PG in with millionaire’s mansions so that Van Hollen could beat a moderate Republican.

So some are vulnerable in primaries, some in GEs, where black voters can just stay home.

  284. Hilary did speak up and was told she was a whiner and victim. we need the menfolk to validate us.

  285. hlr–but I still have the same question, why don’t african Americans get more love from these politicians who are dependant on their votes? They seem to get screwed over just as much as any other core constituency. It’s good to be in a party that sees its voters as “the problem,’ ay?

  286. Seriously — why don’t african Americans get more love from these politicians who are dependant on their votes?

largely b/c they don’t speak in a collective voice but thru representatives or proxies who sell them out, like fat cat ministers, low-level politicians, etc.

the issue here is that BO is seen as controlling these 90%+ rates — so he gets the power, not the voters.

  287. Seriously — I would add that the main pt of Tavis’ Covenant is to demand accountability, but when applied to BO, TS gets run out of town!

  288. you know what is also annoying with all this “the clinons have to prove themselves’ bs?

they idiot blogger dudes are only too willing to woo republicans. when republicans don’t turn up, as they never do, it’s like, let’s woo them some more. But we have to prove that we’ll vote the way they tell us to to be in their little club. hey–we don’t owe you anything, charlie. You need to prove yourself to us.

  289. it’s like 1st grade, we have to make sure they win or they’ll take her and rub her in the mud and pull her hair and send her home crying, and we don’t want to see that, do we?

  290. Ms. Steinem advised that Mr. Obama deliver the same sort of ambitious speech about sex that he did on race. An aide said the campaign was considering such an address.

Sure, and then the all-male, all-white panel on MSNBC will declare it to be the most greatest brilliant speech ever, ever given on gender issues that will be one for the history books and taught in every classroom until the end of time. Subsequently Keith Olbermann will deliver an irate Special Comment blaming all the divisons over sexism on Hillary and those women who support her.

  291. Salty, Bill and Hill should take a permanent vacation and let Howard Dean “unify” the party. Only Obama and Dean can apologize to half the party. It’s their job.

  292. dar1a-g: Sure, and then the all-male, all-white panel on MSNBC will declare it to be the most greatest brilliant speech ever, ever given on gender issues that will be one for the history books and taught in every classroom until the end of time.

and with Gloria Steinem’s approval, apparently.

a lot of ppl must be getting threatened. the republicans look tame next to this.

  293. Bill and Hill have done enough for this country. Watch the Obamatrons try to do ANYTHING on their own.

  294. And special guest Suzy Kolber (KO’s costar at ESPN who used to lock herself in the bathroom and cry because he was such an abusive $#@% to her) will be slapped by Rachel maddow and Tweety.

  295. The lack of critical thinking skills is heartbreaking.
There’s a certain posse that brought that about. Showed up right before BO announced, around Nov-Dec.

On the blogs? Yeah. ICE. BERG. SLIM. You can probably trace the mass dissemination of false race-baiting charges and many other flat-out lies about Hillary straight back to her activity on Daily K0s. I was stunned. It was just a daily constant stream of flat-out lies and trash talk and nobody could keep on top of it – responses with factual information and call outs for her dishonest behavior were ignored. The moderators let it go on. I believe she was banned from other progressive blogs such as myDD, but K0s could give a rat’s ass.

  296. 100%, donnadarko.

And special guest Suzy Kolber (K’s sports costar who used to lock herself in the bathroom and cry because he was such an ab—– $#@% to her) will be pummeled by Rachel.

  297. 100%, donnadarko.

And special guest Suzy Kolber (K’s sports costar who used to lock herself in the bathroom and c– because he was such an ab—– $#@% to her) will be pummeled by Rachel.

  298. For the millionth time, I’m so glad RD started this place. I’m a little testy from hearing all too much from the “you must vote for the Democrat” contingent. Hello? Registered independent for 2 months now.

In snarkier news, my SO got his kool-aid loving, fight-picking Dad a BO “yes we can” Father’s Day card and cheerfully scrawled “loser” on the front. Of course he once got him an “Old F@rt” hat–they have a warm and sensitive relationship.

  299. You, you are responsible for the war in iraq and all the horrible rulings from the good fpr 20 or 30 year conservative majority already installed on the Court. you! 🙂

  300. My brain will explode, absolutely explode if Barry picks Chuck Hagel as VP.
You know what? He’s going to do it, that arrogant jacka** is going to do it. Why hasn’t Chuck Hagel endorsed John McCain yet? Why do Obama surrogates keep floating Hagel’s name around? Didn’t Barry himself hint at having a “bipartisan” administration?

    Whatever, I’m still voting McCain.

On a different matter: Every time I see one of these Hillary montages, my eyes well up with tears. This woman is so intelligent, loving, and graceful. She has made social justice and women’s rights the cause of her life, something that cannot be said for Barry. I hate this so much, she would win in November. Do you know how many people have turned from hating her to loving her? Pat Buchanan, for one. Many Republican women would vote for her.
This primary season has left an indelible mark on my life: I discovered one of my heroes and must deal with the pain of realizing that even the most powerful woman in America could not win the presidency. What is that saying about our society?

  301. doesn’t hagel appeal to the same moderatish republicans as Mccain though? he’s conservative but not enough, like mcain. i don’t see what he gets from hagel, he’s not going to pick up republican crazies, he’s not going to pick up republican less crazies or independants with rezko, ayers, wright, and it’s like a finger in the eye to old school Dems. they only people who’d really like that are the k0ses, and he’s got them.

  302. Seriously —

    [1] The bipartisan nonsense

[2] Iraq — GOP can’t use ‘liberals want to cut and run’

    [3] pro-life

and as a special bonus, trying for Nebraska. Remember that North Omaha is black, so more registration drives plus some Nebraskans for Hagel.

That’s why all the pressure is on HRC and idiots like Steinem to reign in the pro-choice women. I don’t agree w/ all the pundits who claim that BO has to put a woman on the ticket. I think all this BS they’re throwing at women/women’s groups is precisely because they want to go with somebody toxic like Hagel or Webb.

  303. What is that saying about our society?

Ah.. I must resolve to stick to the hope that our society can change for the better. Not joking. The Obama fans will take care of trying to change people by insulting them.. 🙂

  304. Don’t stay mad; get even. I will not vote Obama; I will vote McCain happily knowing that it is payback for the misogynist, racist treatment of HRC and her supporters. Yep, that’s right, hell hath no fury like….

I now realize that it was all an illusion. The
DNC have been jealous of the Republicans’ money and now its their chance to ca$h in. They have lost their way. Obama’s platform will raise taxes on the middleclass, do nothing for working men and women, and less than nothing for the poor.

How can I say this? I come from Illinois, and obama did nothing here. His friends just raised the sales tax in Chicago to over 10%. Can you imagine that in this economy?

President John McCain sounds good to me.

I will not throw this vote away; I want the four horseman of the apocalypse of the Democratic Party to pay. Brazile, Kerry, Kennedy, and Dean have bet their reputations on this election. As far as I’m concerned their names are mud.

  305. hlr: I really think if they put Hagel on the ticket the Democratic base will stay home.

It wouldn’t be smart. I think Hagel’s been promised sec-defense. Yeah, that’s a brilliant way to inform people that Democrats are weak on defense.

I really don’t think Obama can win with Hagel, so it’s an awesome idea, as far as I’m concerned.

  306. Clarification: I wasn’t actually saying the Democrats ARE weak on defense, just that bringing in a Republican for Sec-Def would send that message.

  307. Teresa — everything you say makes perfect sense, but BO seems to have this streak of “I can do whatever I want” (and someone else will cover for my a&&). See, TedK, Oprah, Hillary, etc.

  308. I don’t think Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton would have fallen in line. You stand up for principles – you don’t fall in line, and that’s the spinelessness that keeps women in place as 2nd class citizens.

Steinem should’ve said, I will campaign for BO IF he wins fair and square, but since he didn’t, F You DNC.

  309. Teresa — heh

  310. Just saw Barry talking about “2016, when I’m finishing up my second term.”

Could this guy be any more full of himself? I mean, he barely limped across the finish line to the nomination–and only manged to do that because the DNC is rotten to the core–and he’s already presuming he’ll be elected and relected?

I agree with the prediction that he won’t wear well over the next few months. He’s just too arrogant. And I think people are going to quickly tire of the “McCain is running for Bush’s third term” argument, which he seems to be making the cornerstone of his GE campaign. Hillary WAS the most interesting person in the race, and the only time Barry gets interesting is when another skeleton falls out of his closet. Which is guaranteed to happen again soon, mark my words.

  311. hlr: However, that was later in Clinton’s terms of office. He didn’t go in and instantly appoint a Republican.

Not that I think Barack will be elected. But if he is, he should at least BEGIN with Democrats.

  312. Riverdaughter:

I suggest another pastiche of the Fawkes poem:

“Remember that June, and Dean the poltroon,
    The DNC treason and theft.
I see no reason to tolerate treason
And that is why I left.”

NOVEMBER? Verily, your versification veers most vexing.

  313. Off topic: Over on groupnewsblog.net, where I post comments as “Monster from the Id”, I posted a long comment on the “It’s His Party Now” thread, in which I quoted a good bit of RD’s “Friday, Resolved” post.

My stars and little comets, I’m getting some outraged replies! 😉

  314. Ivory Bill:

Obamanation has two settings, “outraged” and “more outraged.”

They are never overjoyed or even merely happy, even in victory.

  315. Myiq2xu: Isn’t that funny? How can people who won be sooo angry? Could it be that they also think they’ve just won an illegitimate victory?

  316. Here’s what I think is going to happen:

    1) Hillary will campaign energetically for Obama.
    2) Obama will get creamed; the Democrats will lose control of Congress.
    3) the Obamites will blame Hillary for their failure.

With any luck, getting clobbered will crush the Rovean movement in the Democratic Party. We might be able to weed the misogynists out of the party in time for 2012–assuming America still holds elections by then.

  317. Since Gloria Steinem suggested that Barack give a speech on sexism, a topic HE KNOWS NOTHING about, may I suggest a few other speeches and their givers?

Maybe Paris Hilton can give a speech on poverty.
Tom Cruise can give a talk on the benefits of psychoactive drugs.
Jim Jones can give a speech on how NOT to “drink the koolaid”
Bush can give a speech on intelligence.
Angelina Jolie can give one on what it’s like to be “plain”.

  318. You mean Tom Cruise DOESN’T use psychoactive drugs?

    He’s that way NATURALLY? 😆

I just turned 45 a few weeks ago, but I really knew I was getting old when I realized I could remember Michael Jackson, Mel Gibson, and Tom Cruise before they all became scary weirdos. 😉

  319. Ivory Bill:

I’m 48, and I can remember when Michael was black.

  320. Teresa,

LOL! How about if Howard Dean gives a speech on counting every vote? And of course Donna Brazile has already given multiple televised speeches on remaining neutral.

  321. Ivorybill,

I read your comment and replies at group news blog. I love the one by the person who claims that FDR would be thrilled with Barry and his social security privatization plans.

  322. Hey, I am right there, behind Amy Siskind in that video! (in both meanings of the words)
I already sent Howie my change of registration and took Taylor Marsh off my bookmarks list – I advise you to do the same.
And once again – this blog so rocks!

  323. @bostonboomer: also, Nancy Pelosi said “the voters have spoken”
So why don’t you listen to them, Nancy?

  324. Someone should ask the author if he thought the whole tape up and/or if he did research on AA politicians to create his character and if Obama is one of them. If I was the author, I would love all the attention and see my book sales rise because of it.

The conservative NRO believes in the former and thinks its a hoax. Larry does have to address why the whitey tape matches a book plotline (coincidence, Republican deviousness, or actual research done?), but he is sticking to his story and sources.

  325. Now, now, leave Sen. Hagel alone…he’s one of the few Republicans I like. Sen. McCain will never pick him b/c of their views on Iraq. In any other time, I would not be utterly opposed to a bipartisan ticket with Hagel…but, yeah, not this time. And I just don’t see Hagel endorsing Obama…Obama, in the end, offers nothing on Iraq (I mean, I offer about as much as he does!). I could have seen him supporting Hillary, and I think he would actually make a great Sec. of Def. Just like Biden would make a great Sec. of State (though I doubt McCain would select any Dems…though, I would hope he would. I mean, jeebus, President Clinton had a GOP Defense Secretary!).
