I’m sure they mean well

Regarding her husband’s safety, Michelle Obama had this to say about Hillary Clinton’s factual recount of lengthy primary seasons:

I’ve talked about this before. Barack is probably safer now than he was before. Kids are dying in the street in our community. They get shot walking to class, sitting in school, taking the bus home. They are dying in the street…. Send us good vibes. Pray for us. Think positive thoughts. But most of all, be vigilant. Be vigilant about stopping this kind of talk. It’s not funny. You don’t have to like Barack to dislike that kind of talk. Be vigilant about stopping that kind of talk.

Because after 61 years, it’s no more Mrs. Nice Guy for Hillary. Now she means business.

What’s that you say? Nancy Pelosi is growing a spine?

In an interview with her hometown newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, the California Democrat said she is prepared to “step in” if the presidential race does not resolve itself by the end of next month.

“I will step in,” Pelosi told the paper. “Because we cannot take this fight to the convention…It must be over before then.”

Didn’t she put a deadline on Iraq War funding? And how did that go? Hmmm, why is enforcing party discipline to stop Hillary from forcing a brokered convention more important than enforcing party discipline on the Blue Dogs over Iraq war funding?

And when Father Pfieger holds one white woman responsible for the troubles of all of the African-American community…

…he didn’t mean for us to take it literally.
Because some of us innocent citizens out there might take it the wrong way and hold the party responsible for subjecting us to contemptuous people and disrespectful candidates who treat us like $%^*.
(Bless their hearts)

  1. (shaking my head) I got up at the crack of dawn to get to work early and couldn’t let myself watch that video for fear it would distract me.

    Wow. I’m glad I waited.

That was horrible. Just horrible. I can’t wait until we nominate Barack. I’m just dying to know the stuff that’s too bad to release now.

I’ve never heard so many people insulted in church in my entire life.

And Nancy Pelosi? Dream on -> I can’t imagine this NOT going all the way to the convention.

    (babbling)

  2. I’ll repost it here:

I can’t believe that Pfleger would attack Hillary’s run in racial terms. The GOP will not only use it to alienate Hillary supporters from Obama (should he be the nominee) but will also use it alienate white people from Obama even more.

The GOP have so much ammunition to use against Obama to make him unelectable and his poll numbers are sagging right now (especially in key swing states) before they attack.

And I’ve heard from many people that McCain “isn’t that bad.” McCain is really seen as a different kind of Republican.

    Then there’s reparations issue.

  3. is Father Mike auditioning for a larger role. His 15 minutes of fame. What ego!

    In a previous episode

… CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports Obama felt betrayed and Wright felt sand-bagged. Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church said he has been speaking to both men as the events of the past 24 hours unfolded.

He counseled Obama Tuesday morning, and while CBS 2 talked to him Tuesday evening, Rev. Wright called his cell phone.

“I don’t think he had any intention to hurt Barack. He loves Barack,” Pfleger said. “I think the pain and the moment took over.”

That moment was in a place Pfleger called “a lion’s den” – The National Press Club. …

    (Pfleger was in attendance, btw)

    NRO’s Stanley Kurtz, May 20:

During his 2004 senate race, Cathleen Falsani of the Chicao Sun-Times interviewed Obama … the future presidential candidate cited “the Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church in the Auburn-Gresham community on the South Side, who has known Obama for the better part of 20 years,” as a key source of spiritual guidance. The piece also includes words from Pfleger himself, praising Obama. …

Pfleger’s influence over Obama … is second only to that of Wright. Obama has worked on a great many political causes with Pfleger, and Pfleger was a key early backer of Obama’s failed 2000 bid for a seat in Congress.

Pfleger stacks up as God’s gift to the GOP.

  5. Gee, too bad Speaker P wasn’t around in 1980 to stop Ted K from taking it to the floor. WTF? She acts as if this is an abomination. And what exactly is “step in” anyway? She’s going to physically stand at the convention center door?

I LMAO watching Father Pfieger. What a freakin’ phony. I bet he can’t jump either. 😉

  6. It’s been on myDD in diaries today at least twice. Perhaps the mods deleted, I don’t know..

  8. That is repulsive. The guy looked practically apoplectic. He may be a Catholic priest, but I can’t imagine that is going to go over too well with mainstream Catholics.

When are people going to pull their heads out of their a**es and realize that this is a total disaster waiting to happen?

  9. His connections and beliefs, you guys…? NQ has them, today, I have a HUGE post on that with links re The Weather Underground type stuff and SEX (haha)

but then I found a great writer called Marathon pundit who led me to a place called “illinoise” which led me to this. It’s just getting scarier by the day. Can we just have HILLARY. She’s the right kind of President for DEMS like us— seriously. Anyway, here is that link and I’m going to tell Larry @ NQ, except they already know I’m sure. We were kids when all that Weather Underground stuff happened. Click over to my blog and read what Marathon Pundit said about sex, plus also I have stuff about Recreate 68–just make sure to go to all the links at my place,
    seriously…

MO? I don’t want her at the helm that’s for sure. Too Creepy.

  10. I’d just like to know what my starving Irish ancestors who fought on the union side in the Civil War had to do with it? Or my Scots-irish kin in south west PA who owned some small businesses and went hunting for food during the Great Depression to feed their families? Or my Dutch Jewish great grandfather who came to Philly around the turn of the 20th century. Or my well to do English great grandfather who stowed away on a boat when he was a teenager and ended up as a grocer instead of a hotellier.
Yes, I felt every bit of my white entitlement when I applied for my first Pell grant to go to college- and qualified, and struggled my way through the labyrinthine college application and registration process all by myself because no one in my family had ever done it before. Wow! It must have been nice to have a father who went to Harvard and a mother who was an anthropologist. But it’s not like I *earned* my 401K, even though I’ve never seen a trust fund in my life.
    What an ass.

  12. Good work, Vbonnaire. Maybe CNN is just trying to stir up trouble for ratings but, hey, it’s about time someone started to pay attention.

  13. RD: I’d just like to know what my starving …

No time for questions; start transferring your assets to safe places.

  14. jules, the answer to that is not any time soon. If you deny them Barack, for whatever reason, even perfectly reasonable ones like he isn’t fricking ready yet, the Obamaphiles are going to have a fit. So, let them. Get is over with now while it is still May. Let them have their tantrum and kick and scream and knock over their toys before the convention. Let them get the anger and disappointment out of their system while there is still time to correct this huge catastrophe waiting to happen. No time like the present. It is time for the grown ups to take control of the situation.

  15. Re: Nancy Pelosi

I don’t think invertebrates ever grow spines.

BTW, has anyone ever said to Nancy, “you have the right to remain silent.”

    Perhaps someone will soon.

  16. You know, my grandparents are Scots Irish too, it’s part o’me. And the earliest belief systems I had as a child. I knid of like being a white heterofeminist. Gee RD, we might have some of the same ancestors!

anyway, you know I think I went to high school with girls just like you, and myself and they have made us soooooooooooooooooooooo mad right now.

If I knew your email I send a pic to you and Boomer and kbird— everytime I see that pic of yours it’s like we are having a high school slumber party! hahahahahahahahahahahahah!

& I’m just as proud of all of you as I was all those jr. feminists I knew in BO’s gen. Thank you RD & Co. (friends all)

  17. Go to politico …

Headline: White women cold toward Obama

Barack Obama’s favorability ratings among white women have declined significantly in recent months, particularly among Democrats and independents.

Just wait ’til the Republican women get to know Barry.

  18. As a rational human being, I can never accept the notion that being born a particular colour or gender or in any particular condition of health has any moral ramifications. The belief system that Senator Obama has embraced holds that white people are born with a stain of original sin. One’s guilt is apparent and inarguable. What a lovely idea to transmit to one’s children and grand-children, that the worth of an individual is seen in the colour of their skin. I cannot see how the cure for racism is to become a racist. Nor will most Americans in November, when they go to vote, see how they can support a man who has been a part of this belief system for almost two decades.

  19. The hate that I’ve seen stirred up by this campaign of “hope” and “unity” is astonishing. And scary.

  20. How do you think his favorability ratings will do when the GOP makes ads showing Obama’s other spiritual advisor in the pulpit of Obama’s church going on a vicious rant against Hillary?

  21. Needless to say, Democratic ‘strategists’ are asserting that they’ll get white women back under the Barry Banner. These people are pathetically out of touch.

I’m scratching my cheek right now with my middle finger at “Democratic strategists.”

  22. George W. Bush could probably get elected for a third term over Barry, once the Rethugs have finished with him. He’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Nancy “steppin’ in” Pelosi trying to act all butch is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a loooooooooong time. And I’ve been around a while.

  23. CC, this is why Nancy Pelosi envies Hillary Clinton.

  24. From the article: There is no reason to believe that these Democratic white women are not pursuable.

Hey baby! (whistle) I’m talking to you, girl! Gonna vote for Barry? What’s the matter, are you prejudiced? Racist? Didn’t like you, and you ugly, anyway.

    Bring on the pursuit!

  25. I’m telling you: Obama shares the views of Wright and Pfeiger, his spiritual mentors for the past 20 years (Pfeiger is on Obama’s campaign as a spiritual advisor). These are misogynistic men who exploit the power of religion to incite hatred and fear.

And it’s not just about his mentors but also his church. Look at the congregation: they are not exactly offended by this inflammatory rant.

  26. I know friends don’t let friends vote republican, but I have had it! I’ve donated the legal limit to Hillary, I’ll get a part time job if I have to just to give the legal limit to McCain. Anything to prevent that creep Obama from making the next four years even worse than the past eight.

By the way, I noticed the link to Linda Stender’s campaign committee here. I live in Scotch Plains, NJ which is in her congressional district. Before I vote for her or make a contribution I want to know whether she’s endorsed Hillary or Obama. If anyone has any information on this, I would be grateful.

  27. I am a Catholic and was deeply offended by the comments from this pseudo priest. He does not speak for me and I am getting pretty sick and tired about all this reparation and guilt being thrown at me. I had nothing to do with it. And if we are looking at reparations, I would like to apply on behalf of my Irish ancestors who came here in the mid 1880’s and ended up shoveling horseshit just to make a living and were told “Irish Need Not Apply”. I am sick of the racist rants and it was always my belief that going to church meant you were seeking redemption and honoring God not a place for racial rants.

If my pastor was up there on the altar mimicking a sex act in front of my kids I would be speechless.

  28. I am mad on so many fronts. First, as a Catholic, I would like to say that I am sorry for everything that Pfleger said. I will not even call him ‘Father’ because that still means something to me. That is not Catholic teaching, that is not even rational thinking. Second, I spent last summer traveling through Ireland, visiting my family’s homesteads. One was a bog and a hut so small that I could not believe that my Great-aunts still lived in it until the ’70. The land was sold to the farmer next door and my white family’s domicile is not a cow pasture. My Great-grandmother (Honora) lived her whole life in horrible poverty and it is my hope that my ability to speak now, as Honora, is in her name. Third, I want to apologize for having my eleven-year old son do a school report on Nancy Pelosi. He made Pelosi sound pretty good, the report would read differently now. Finally, Michelle, if your good-for-nothing husband had actually done anything as a community activist (other than line his pockets and build his political career), then maybe your neighborhood would not be so dangerous now.

  29. I’d like to make a proposal. Any time one of us uses the phrase “the notion that”, we have to give Hill $5. That’s Obama’s phrase and a little bit of my previous meal comes to the back of my throat every time I hear it. It’s usually the beginning of a strawman argument, an Obamism if you will.

  30. WigWag: I know friends don’t let friends vote republican, but I have had it!

Tell me about it. I don’t consider it ‘voting Republican’ but rather, sending the Democratic party a message they need to hear.

I don’t want them to rush with SDs to end the race in order to begin their “pursuit” of white women. That’s tantamount to harassment.

  31. Hey, you’ve got to stop this kind of talk! It has no place in this campaign! The very notion that . . .

  32. Did he personally attack Clinton? (I know the video is right there, I have dialup and a crappy old computer).

Of course Obama would never apologize. Did he ever apolgize for the whore radio ads? Did he ever apologize for Wright insulting Clinton and Rice?

  33. WigWag I know that on Feb 5, she said she would have been happy with either candidate. I suspect she’s a Clintonista but probably trying to stay neutral.

  34. How many times will he have to apologize for hideous comments made by his friends? If he keeps this up long enough he won’t have any.

  35. Honora: Michelle, if your good-for-nothing husband had actually done anything as a community activist (other than line his pockets and build his political career), then maybe your neighborhood would not be so dangerous now.

Ain’t that the truth. Also, TUCC gets all kinds of $$ from the Daley administration to do work in the ‘hood.

  36. Clearly Fr. Pfieger has learned from the hateful sexism of the Catholic Church which still views women, in the tradition of Aquinas, as defective males. Thanks Father for spewing your hateful sexism in a church! You remind me why leaving the Catholic Church was a good decision. And wow, how intuitive! I bet that is exactly what Hillary thought–“I am white, I am Bill’s wife, and so the position is mine.” Let’s just ignore Hillary’s life-long commitment to fighting for civil rights, shall we? Also, we needn’t explore too carefully the fact that there has never been a woman president, meaning no woman would assume the position is readily hers. I love too how you, a privileged white man, feels free to tell a woman what she really thought—because having reaped the full benefits of white supremacy and sexism, only you, a white man, knows the truth!

Now explain to me why a white woman still earns only two-thirds of what a white man earns in the same job. Why are women and children the majority of the poor in this Country? I think it is because of bigots like you, Fr. Pfieger.

  37. Riverdaughter, thanks for the information. Her response isn’t good enough for me. Not this year. If she would be happy with Obama, I can’t be happy with her. Dems have been eyeing this district for years. We’ve been praying to get rid of the odious Mike Ferguson. How ironic that to send a message I might have to vote for Christie Whitman’s daughter i(Stender’s likely Republican opponent) nstead of Stender. Actually, having to do this breaks my heart.

  38. Clearly Fr. Pfieger has learned from the hateful sexism of the Catholic Church which still views women, in the tradition of Aquinas, as defective males. Thanks Father for spewing your hateful sexism in a church! You remind me why leaving the Catholic Church was a good decision. And wow, how intuitive! 39. WigWag: Stender has a pic on her site with Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. You can take that any way you like. I worked for Stender in 2006. She’s a wonderful candidate. She would be a great asset in the house.

  40. Pelosi:
I wish I lived in her district so I could vote against her.

I have no doubt that Pelosi opposes Hillary because Hillary knows what she wants and how to get it out of a Dem. House – and the last thing Pelosi wants is a powerful Dem. in the White House.

She no doubt figures that Obama will be easy to ignore or manipulate, and if McCain wins, she’ll have the perfect excuse for being ineffective.

  41. I’d forgotten about this, but today reminded me of this treat from Rev Wrong.

Barry just wants to save the world but it’s those horny women that get in the way …

  42. RD — I think you were right on your first call (neutrality). Clyburn is also coming to NJ for her.

  43. Little Sister — The bare transcript doesn’t convey the full toxicity of Pfleger’s performance, or the overwhelming crowd approval, but here ’tis, per NRO’s Jim Geraghty:

I must now to address the one who says, ‘don’t hold me responsible for what my ancestors did.’ But you have enjoyed the benefits of what your ancestors did! And unless you are ready to give up the benefits — Throw away your 401 fund! [sic] Throw away your trust fund! Throw away all the money that been put away in the company you walked into ’cause your daddy and your granddaddy and your great grandaddy —

(screaming at the top of his lungs)

Unless you are willing to give up the benefits, then you must be responsible for what was done in your generation! ‘Cause you are the beneficiary of this insurance policy!

[garbled] expose white entitlement. And supremacy, wherever it raises its head. I said before, I really don’t want ot make this political, because you know I’m really very unpolitical.

When Hillary was crying, and people said that was put on, I really don’t believe it was put on. I really believe that she just always thought, ‘this is mine. I’m Bill’s wife. I’m white, and this is mine. I just gotta get up and step into the plate.’

Then out of nowhere, ‘I’m Barack Obama!’

Imitating Hillary’s response, screaming at the top of his lungs again, he continues, ‘Ah, damn! Where did you come from? I’m white! I’m entitled! There’s a black man stealing my show!’

    (mocks crying)

She wasn’t the only one crying, there was a whole lot of white people crying!

I’m sorry. I don’t want in any more trouble. The live-streaming just went out again.”

  44. Riverdaughter, believe it or not, Mike Ferguson’s moronic theme in 2006 was “Stender, she’s a spender” As dumb as it sounds, everyone in the district had that line on the tips of their tongue. Actually, I’m a snow bird and I have a condo in Wasserman-Schultz”s district in Ft. Lauderdale. I’m a huge fan of hers. Unfortunately, I am so repulsed by the democrats right now I can barely think straight. I know I’m so angry that I might be delusional, but I hate Pelosi so much that I am thinking back fondly on the days of Gingrich and even Delay.

  45. riverdaughter:

Another they I’m sure they mean(t) well for you.
    via truthteller@noquarters

Father Pfleger writes to say, “I regret the words I chose on Sunday. These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama’s life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them.

Ya think Keith Obama will be doing a “Special Comment” of these episodes?

  46. @RonK: the overwhelming crowd approval is the killer part. The pattern of misogyny between Wright and Pfleger is clear and the congregation welcomes it. They know full well what those two men are all about. What is Obama going to do next, throw the entire church under the bus (including himself)?

Does Pelosi, Reid, and Dean honestly think the GOP is going to allow Obama get away with such outrageously absurd acts of political convenience?

  47. *Do* not “Does…”

Hey, for comic relief I give you W chest bumping a cadet. A must-see.

  48. Pfleger’s email address:

    pastorpfleger@ameritech.net

  49. Thanks very much, ronk.

I’m sorry, but did I miss the memo that the only way to be an anti-racist is to be a raving misogynist ass?

  50. WigWag: Yes, as a resident of her district and a canvasser for Stender for the last month of the campaign, I remember hearing that phrase over and over again. And she lost by less than 4000 votes. In a district this dense (in more ways than one) that’s quite an accomplishment. Property taxes are outrageous aound here. If you own a house in NJ-07, you know what I mean. But she nearly toppled him because she figured the tax issue out. She was brilliant in the closing moments of her debate against Ferguson when she brought up the obscene amount ot tax money going to the Iraq war that Ferguson happily voted for.

  51. Bonita — thanks, but I have no plans to email that creep. I just don’t want to see him or his friends anywhere near the DC metro area, period.

In fact, I plan to do my own canvassing next week in my neighborhood to make sure that every voter and potential voter hears about this and a few other things. It’s time to take it to the streets — I don’t trust the media.

  52. We are so screwed in November and no one seems to care except us little low-info women.

Harry Reid joined Pelosi (again) today and said it will be over this week. Wonder how they are going to threaten the undeclared SD’s to endorse Obama? I though Harry was a Clinton supporter. Have they threatened him with his job?

  53. What the heck? This is the creepy pseudo-apology:

***Father Pfleger writes to say, “I regret the words I chose on Sunday. These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama’s life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them.”***

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/05/priest-and-obam.html?cid=116833604

Obama’s life and message?? WTF? Do they really think he’s Jesus, with a “life and message”? What the hell IS the message, anyway? And we must repent if we are inconsistent with it?

The longer this goes on, the creepier it gets and the more determined I am to fight this cult of personality. Like we need more religious fervor in American politics. What a bunch of creeps.

  54. I’m in shock. I can’t believe that the DNC is foisting this horrible candidate on us. Maybe Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean are the real Manchurian candidates? Maybe that explains why impeachment was off the table and they kept funding the war? Maybe Pelosi and Dean are working with the Republicans to keep them in power.

  55. I don’t know if anyone else said this, but is Fr. Pgeiger suggesting that the catholic church should be responsible for all of the horrible things that have been done in its name over the centuries? What about “catholic entitlement”. Is he willing to take responsibility for inquisition torture, or the pedophile priests? gmab

  56. Thanks for the email address of The Pfluger. Sent him a message about where his collar needs to be stuffed.

  57. They don’t want a strong Democrat in the WH bostonboomer. It’s easier to whine about how it’s all someone else’s fault that way.

  58. I don’t know who Pfleger is and I hope not to find out. As for MIchelle Obama’s comments, it’s her turn to visit Tuzla! In “her community” kids aren’t getting shot at, of course–in her community, kids spend more on after-school lessons than many other kids can spend (through their parents or other caregivers) on food and shelter. Michele Obama lives in the inner-city of Chicago like I live in the Warsaw Ghetto.

  59. I did not hear the part of that “sermon/rant” where he suggests the Catholic church be held responsible for everything. There is enough blame to go around. But if he really means what he says he can do as I did: leave. And another point: the Catholic Church today is in the same disarray as the Dem Party since they refused to deal with the pedophile priests and the party insists on inflicting us with this sorry excuse for a “uniter”.

People like Bush and Obama who labels themselves with those high minded pronouncements can never measure up. It takes more than words. Is there anyone here who would honestly say the want to follow an Obama for the next 4 years?

  60. The thing I noticed about Obama’s faux apology was he didn’t apologize to Hillary. Not one word of defense for her. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who noticed:

Wolfson says: “Divisive and hateful language like that is totally counterproductive in our efforts to bring our party together and have no place at the pulpit or in our politics. We are disappointed that Senator Obama didn’t specifically reject Father’s Pflegler’s dispicable comments about Senator Clinton, and assume he will do so.”

  61. I’m a Lutheran, I could add a few Gary 😉

  62. I think the RNC should start selling t-shirts that say “The Democratic Party hates me,” and make a fortune off it. I’d buy one for both Clintons if I could get them to wear them. 🙂

  63. Riverdaughter: Yes I own a house in NJ-07 and yes my property taxes are outrageous. But I’d gladly see them doubled if I thought that in return, the party I’ve supported my whole life would get it’s sanity back.

The first campaign I worked on in New Jersey was for Jim Florio. I know you have young children so you may be to young yourself to remember him. He became quite unpopular in New Jersey but I always liked him. I noticed that back in April, he endorsed Hillary.

  64. Nancy stepping in? Nancy can step off.

And, no, Obama won’t apologize for this latest South Side nutbag, but he’s more than happy to accept–personally–Hillary’s words of apology to the Kennedy family regarding her awkward but innocuous comment about RFK.

  65. WigWag: I remember Florio. He was governor just after I moved here. Yes, he got a bad rap because he tried to make the tax system fair and the well-to-do in my district and north signed onto Gingrich and got rid of him. Then we were stuck with Whitman for two terms.
Before you get too down on Linda for her neutrality, remember that back on Supertuesday a lot of us didn’t think Obama was qualified to be president but we didn’t hate him. Most of us, *back then*, were OK with working for him if Clinton lost. Stender has a particularly fine line to walk because she needs money and the DNC has dried up- except through Obama’s donors. So, if you don’t want her to *remain* neutral, make her independent of the DNC and contribute to her campaign. I’ve been putting it off myself but it is time we remember the little guys who need our attention too.

  66. OK. I just now figured out that WigWag owns a home in NJ-07 😉

  67. hir – Thanks for the chuckle…

  68. I was thinking WigWag might own ALL the houses in NJ-07 🙂

I believe that Jim Florio is not only a Hillary supporter but a superdelegate as well.

  69. Ok hir and kiki – now I can’y stop laughing and my cat is trying to figure out how to call 911.

  70. On edit – see I can’t even spell correctly.

  71. as a catholic I’m offended by that so called father
where is the bishop of Chicago in all of this? I’ve seen catholic priests get in hot water for saying much less this so called priest

  72. hlr, kiki…I needed that laugh. My dogs think I’m nuts.

  73. This is getting very creepy. This is a cult of personality. This is really “us” and “them’ at this point. There is not middle ground. I just wish would come out and lay it on the line. I have the same repulsion to him as I did to George Bush.

  74. Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) will represent Obama’s position before the RBC on Saturday.

Let him know how we feel, eh?

  75. I checked Greta on Fox to see if she was showing Pfleger. Boy, was she ever! What an idiot he is. She also read the apology. She said her rule is that it’s not an aplogy if it has an “if” in it. Which is a great rule! I just am infuriated that Odrama gets away with all this horrible stuff.

    Little Sister-great idea for a t-shirt!

  76. Jonas8 — Pfleger has been in more or less continuous trouble with the church hierarchy (especially for often hosting Louis Farrakhan at St Sabina’s, but he’s still there.

  77. ben: I said the same thing. I loathe Bush but this guy is close. I have never felt so turned off by a candidate than Obama. Most of the time I have gone into the voting booth hoping for the best but this time I know I cannot do it.

  78. I saw a bit of greta but basically this doesnt matter in the primary we have already decided to pick this fucking idiot. and i’m doubting they will care too much in SD and MT.

  79. It’s just a gut reaction to me to someone who seems like a bully and never has to work for anything in his life. The “you’re likeable enough” comment is what really showed me that he is just a jerk.

  80. The fact that he hosted Louis Farrakhan tells it all. This is a man who loathes the Jews. Is this what Obama is bringing to the White House? What happened to “unity”? Farrakhan is an extremist and we need to keep in mind that you are judged by the company you keep.

  81. I really must be missing something: ok, I understand the $ and I sort of understand the new voter thing but isn’t there something else I’m not getting as to why we are just rolling merrily along with this guy.

  82. ronk — remember that Democrat in FL’s state house that jumped on board w/ the Repubs moving up the date — Jeremy Ring? He was forever used as an ‘excuse’ that Dems violated safe harbor. A Floridian tells me that he’s Wexler’s very special protege. This whole thing was a set-up from jump.

  83. ben…I honestly keep wondering if the dems looked at W and said “what a tool….we need one of those”

so we’re being told that we prefer the guy with the thinnest of thin resumes (sound familiar?) who kinda owes everybody, as he didn’t work his way to the top on his own merit (sound familiar?) and really doesn’t have particular policy positions so he’ll be amenable to whatever he’s told (sound familiar?)

oy. they wanted their own little W. who can blame them?

  84. hlr: no fucking way!

  85. exactly Ive always thought they were modeling their campaign after Ws 2000. a dispirited opposing party base, an activated base of their own, and an opponent they can tie to the past administration.

  86. Why does CNN let Roland Martin say whatever assinine thing that comes to his puny little mind? and why haven’t the DNC and Obama campaign tell him to stuff a sock in it?

Sen. Hillary Clinton will do anything and everything to win, and the idea that Sen. Barack Obama should give in to her demands to seat the Michigan and Florida delegates is ludicrous…..

….Her comments to The Associated Press that she may take this to the convention in August shouldn’t be dismissed. I don’t think Clinton cares about the party. Last week, CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux said a Clinton source told her that their focus is Clinton first and the party second.

Does The DNC agree with this statement? Does Obama? If they do then maybe she should leave the party. What a disgrace, and Roland Martin is a fucking asshole.

  87. Agreed on Roland Gary. I am sick of his supposedly objective crap.

What happened to the “be nice to Hillary” part of the campaign to end it all?

  88. Fuck….is exactly the word of the day. Roseanne said it was the best word because it had so many uses. I have a lot of uses for it today. how does Hillary stay with this party and keep taking this over and over.

  89. Gary, What I’d like to know is why seating all delegates is considered the Nuclear Option — not keeping them out.

  90. he goes on to say:

In the past few days, her surrogates, and even Clinton herself, have ramped up the talk about sexism. There is little doubt that she is trying to stir the ire of her female base and push them to demand that she either be the nominee or be given the vice president slot. But it’s really about the former rather than the latter.

why don’t you “ired” females let CNN know what a buffoon he is. He makes Keith Olbermann look sane.

  91. Has anyone heard a rumor of Hillary suspending her campaign for the summer? Is this another WWTSBQ line or has she announced something?

Why would she do that the day before a primary?

  92. This is Bush Redux 2000….Bush mobilized the far right. They plan on mobilizing the far left because the far right is dispirited. the bush people didn’t care about mccain supporters back then. and the obama people dont care either. this is like a greek tragedy on so many levels. they’ve become what they hate the most. but this is what the cheetoheads have always wanted.

  93. One of the most demoralizing effects of this campaign is that come November (if he is handed the nomination) we are left with a choice of McCain or Obama.

Bush has left a mess beyond proportions and it will be up to one of these two to tackle the clean up. And it boils down to a choice of these two after 16 torturous months. This is the best we can do?

  94. OMG! Gary, Roland Martin actually said that on CNN? Is there anyone in the media anymore who makes any pretense of being objective? Sometimes I think we are already living in a dictatorship with a government controlled press. How do we know Obama won’t take the executive powers that Bush has gotten out of our “Democratic” congress and turn himself into President for life? I’m sorry, but Obama really scares me and I’m getting more creeped out by him every day.

  95. exactly katie, and this bs from martin is to try to be louder than the pfeiger deal.

He’s not only attacking clinton, he’s directly attacking his supporters:

Clinton and her supporters now discount all of that and act as if they were always champions of the “disenfranchised” voters in Florida and Michigan. But they weren’t. And the record is clear. Only when it became apparent that she needed the states’ delegates to close the gap with Obama did she change her tune. She said one thing in Iowa and New Hampshire and now is saying something else.

I don’t know about you all, but I’ve always been for all votes counting. My whole life. Where does this ass get off telling me I wasn’t this is a personal attack on millions of decent americans, especially women.

  96. Katie,

Where did you hear this rumor? I can’t believe it’s true.

  97. bboomer its on cnn.com I linked to it above.

  98. katie, a commenter on TL said they saw that on Fox today. Suspending, not conceding. I haven’t read it anywhere else yet.

  99. i saw nothing on the internet when i googled the rumor

  100. ben, the reporter’s name was Monica something if that helps.

  101. This should be enough to sink him.

    Racist. Sexist.

    Feh.

  102. I have not seen anything posted to the effect she is putting her candidacy on hold.

Gary: Check out MyDD if you haven’t already for the posting put up by Alegre (my heroine) and what is being planned for the 31st with her group. She names the time and place of a gathering if you are interested.

  103. I think Hillary the individual could do so much better without the albatross party. I honestly would love to see her move beyond them. I’ve been frustrated by what I see as her loyalty to the party that is both undeserved and misplaced.

so how funny to hear that she’s about herself first and party second. if only that were true! we could dump the losers! please Hillary! put yourself and the country and….well, us, your supporters…..before the loser albatross creative class bush-enabling war-supporting impeachment-off-the-table wussy party the dems have decided to be. please be about yourself first because frankly, what you’re about is so much better than what the democratic party is about.

Roland who? Suzanne what? don’t know them. I hope they’re right in a way they didn’t intend.

    Hillary, dump the losers!!!

  104. i wasnt looking for a reporters name…at least i dont think i was.

  105. Kiki: That was AWESOME!!!!!

  106. Gary, Tabby & BB — I don’t believe she’s suspending anything. It’s more wishful thinking by people who want her out.

They take half-phrases and pull them out of context making them seem to mean something that was never thought. We should know that by now.

  107. It was a Hillary supporter who said he/she saw it so I don’t know what to believe. Suspend means that she is not quitting though.

  108. Re: rumors. There’s this vs something I heard on the tee-vee earlier … something about suspending the campaign (but not conceding) to get finances in order before the convention. Sorry, don’t remember which talking head it was …

  109. thanks Pat. I hope that those of us going can somehow find each other. My post the other day didn’t work, and I’m not good at organizing people. We have been making signs tonight. My partner is a painter, so he’s pretty good. We are going to make one for the confluence, so look for the three rivers logo from the top. We have 12 signs, so I hope we do meet some of ya’ll so we can share them.

  110. Here’s what Clinton was saying on January 15th of this year about not seating those delegates:

    http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2008/01/15/sparring/

“While Sen. Clinton will honor her commitment not to campaign in Florida in violation of the pledge, she also intends to honor her pledge to hear the voices of all Americans,” the campaign says. “The people of Michigan and Florida have just as much of a right to have their voices heard as anyone else. It is disappointing to hear a major Democratic presidential candidate tell the voters of any state that their voices aren’t important … Sen. Clinton intends to be president for all fifty states. And while she will honor the pledge she signed and not campaign in either state, she intends to continue to give every American a voice during this election and when she gets to the White House.”

  111. katie, I think Pelosi, Reid and Dean are backing her into a corner after Tuesday where she’ll have no choice. That doesn’t mean she’ll quit trying to get SD’s on her side. She can wait for Obama to implode though I’m afraid that won’t happen until Sept and Oct. Is it too late then?

  112. hlr, that didn’t sound like an announcement to me. I read that before and thought there must be something else.

If it’s this? Not much too it.

  113. Fresh, why let someone try to lead when we have someone we KNOW can lead. Go away.

  114. And I’m glad you give her credit for the very good Clinton Presidency. I’ll take it.

  115. tabby, I guess Pelosi, Reid and Dean are going to do Olbermann’s dirty work? They can try. But, she shows way more sticking power than the 3 of them put together. Well, I guess Dean’s been pretty tough on Florida & Michigan…..

I don’t think Obama can withstand the scrutiny of being Dobbs & Greta’s hobby (much less Larry Johnson) for the summer.

  116. hey, that reminds me of something weird I heard a while back…….Romney suspended his campaign rather than dropping out? I remembering wondering at the time if that meant he was waiting for McCain to blow it so he could step back in and save the day. as I understand it, he is still holding onto his delegates.

maybe this is the future of politics? maybe Hillary wants to drop out for a while and see if Obama blows it?

    I dunno.

I’d still like to see her dump those lame democrats. I like the green party myself. I’m pretty sure they’d appreciate Hillary and Bill’s support. the dems? nah, don’t need ’em. they’ve got the new jesus.

  117. gary: How I would love to be there with you guys; I think what you are doing is wonderful. Know that we will be with you in spirit at least. Did we conclude that this will be carried live on C-Span? I also heard that they supporters are gathering as early as 7am.

  118. katie, I don’t think he’ll withstand it either. I just hope it isn’t the fall before any really bad stuff comes out. Hillary can stay above it all and the proven winner can take us to a win in November.

Or, the Dems in power can just give away the best chance we’ll ever have at the WH.

  119. Pat, it is on C-Span and CNN.

  120. the sun should still come up tomorrow so I am going to bed. i think we are all realizing how this party and all political parties work. they use people to gain and keep power. we are of no use this year. they have calculated, maybe they think rightly, that we won’t matter. the base is so activated that they can’t be stopped. 5 more months.

  121. Thanks, Tabby.

  122. ben, we will matter, just wait and see.

    You’re welcome Pat.

katie, my friend, I have Puppy tests in the morning. Please think positive thoughts for me.

  123. tabbycat,

I’ll be thinking of you and your baby. All the best to you both.

  124. Thank you bb. You guys got me through a stressful night. It’s awful to love a lttle dog this much. I’d do anything to get him well.

  125. Gary,

I can’t wait to read your reports from DC. And some of your beautiful photos would be much appreciated as well. Have a great trip!

  126. Obama can’t seem to keep those radical preachers in the basement long enough for him to win the nomination.
Their hatemongering for Hillary and whites is so embedded in their teeny tiny brains that it just keeps seeping out! and Obama listened to it for 20 years.

    Despicable!

    In 2004, the GOP had a tizzy about Kerry being divorced and partaking of communion. {gasp!}
Obama is a gift to the GOP!

    Helloooo Pres. McCain…

  127. What I find ironic is these “young kids” who are so keen on Obama and have no sense of any history whatsoever.

He is just the “cool” guy of the moment. Ten years from now, when they are sitting in some corporate office pouring over their tax loopholes, investments, stock quotes, they will be voting Repub just to keep a lid on where the money is going. Yet it is this demographic which is bringing him to power.

  128. tabbycat — puppy tests? Thinking positive thoughts for you and puppy.

  129. gary – I am going to D.C. with 5 other folks from Durham. We are staying at the Washington Hilton.

    N.C. should be well represesnted.

    Drive safe

  130. {{tabbycat}} I do and will think about you and your puppy-tests. How does he feel? Can you tell?

  131. He’s tired. But still as sweet as ever.

hlr, he was just diagnosed with an immune system disease where he body is attacking his platelets. If the medicine doesn’t help, they bleed to death. He did good for two weeks and then bad for two weeks. If he isn’t better tomorrow (or at least the same) he will have to take chemo.

It’s a very expensive disease to treat and it isn’t always successful. All of my Hillary money is now going to the vet!

I’m off to bed with the little fellow. Thank you all for thinking of us. I’ll let you know tomorrow.

  132. Oh, tabbycat, I know puppy-kids are family – I hope the best for you and your baby.

  133. thank you jjm. I’m getting ready to go for tests now. Wish us luck!

  134. Pfieger says whites have been raping blacks for decades, how many alter boys has HE raped?
