Hillary, From Sea to Shining Sea

Americans love Hillary from one end of the country to the other. Take a look, this map looks like a great big smiling face:

What I like about this map is that it fills in Florida, Michigan and Texas as hers. It’s amazing the number of sites that put those states into some strange holding zone. One site put Texas in stripes (giving undue validity to Obama’s caucus win) . . . .

Well, there’s not much we can do about Texas (until time to rewrite the rules for next time) but, we CAN take action on the Florida and Michigan situation.

As you surely know, the DNC Rules Committee will meet in Washington DC on Saturday May 31st. Hillary supporters are planning a demonstration (Details below.) But there is more that we can do in preparation for that meeting and throughout the summer.

I know some of you have other useful resources and links. Let’s share them — and ideas for using them — in the comments. Links that are particularly useful could be added as a list with the above link.

Speaking for myself, I believe that as we work on our letters we should remember that we are voices supporting Hillary’s campaign. Our message should be firm, but positive. Leave the ranting here.

Here are the details for the Demonstration at the May 31st Meeting:

Count Every Vote
guest post by The Committee to Count Every Vote
If you believe that the media and DNC have underestimated the passion, strength, intensity and determination of women voters and the power of the women’s vote,

Then please join us in Washington, D.C. on May 31st, to rally outside the meeting of the Rules and Bylaws Committee. The RBC will make its determination with respect to Michigan and Florida during its May 31 meeting. It is essential that everyone who can meets in Washington that day to rally for our cherished democratic principles, help enfranchise MI and FL and to show that Hillary has equal numbers of passionate, devoted supporters who believe fervently, notwithstanding any math, that she will the better general election candidate and best president. Our purpose is not to divide the party or attack the DNC or Senator Obama. Michigan and Florida, however, in addition to Hillary’s strong support nationwide, cannot and must not be dismissed in DNC efforts to unify the party.

The rally will be held outside the Mariott-Wardman Park Hotel, 2660 Woodley Rd, NW in Washington D.C. on May 31st.. We will meet at 7am and rally until the meeting concludes (or longer, if you prefer).

You can register to attend the rally at http://www.hillaryresponders.com/counteveryvote. Once you register, the a state/regional coordinator from the Committee to Count Every Vote will contact you regarding travel arrangements (buses will be available and we can provide a list of recommended hotels; a limited number of Washington supporters have offered to open their homes to those who cannot afford hotel stays).

If you are not contacted or if you have any additional questions or suggestions, please email counteveryvote08@gmail.com.

  1. Katie,

It does look like a smiling face. And this map validates what Anglachel has been saying: it’s a mistake for Democrats to write off the South. That is just part of this tragic apparent policy among the Democratic: to make the party of FDR the party for elites, while throwing away the votes of traditional Democratic coalition.

  2. From All Thngs Considered, May 22: Pat Schroeder, the onetime Colorado congresswoman and presidential hopeful, revisits questions about Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the White House. More than a year ago, Schroeder talked to All Things Considered about whether the nation is yet ready for a woman president.

    Schroeder is excellent!

(Thank you for giving me sanctuary!)

  3. Yes, thank you for the sanctuary. I was working out at the gym and I saw something on a tv screen about Hillary negotiating a withdrawal from the race. Does anyone know anything about this?

My best friend said that if he takes his family on a cross country trip he can do so and never leave a Hillary state.

  4. yeah Katie! love the smiley face. someone said the other day (wish I could remember to give them credit) that the florida is like the smiley sticking out its tongue, giving a big fat raspberry to Obama 🙂

  5. Gary it was me!

And I’m on that tongue, SPITTING ON OBAMA!!!

  6. Ben,
All that stuff is what Obama’s campaign is putting out there. They’ve been saying this stuff for literally months and months. Screaming at her to drop out. Calling her DOA. They are afraid of the fact that she’s likely to get the popular vote and the SD’s will have to give the nomination to her because “it’s the will of the people.”

  7. She’s got them in corner right now…I would hate to think she would be trying to negotiate a graceful exit.

  8. Ben, everyone — she’s in this to win. This is the woman, Hillary, is a sticker. She didn’t get through all these last months only to quit just at the height of her campaign.

Obama has a slight lead in pledged delegats — so what? And a few more Super Delegates? Well that’s going to change through the summer.

Obama is The Weakest candidate to ever get this close to the nomination. And it’s possible that he might have won if the DNC hadn’t played ‘cute’ by moving the convention to the end of August.

But, there is NO WAY this man can keep out of trouble through the summer. He just can’t stop himself. NBC thinks Hillary has to suspend her campaign in June? Dream on pundits — your guy LOST.

  9. I think it can only be a sign of weakness that the Obama campaign is now wanting to negotiate on the issue. I can’t wait till the 31st. hope a lot of you guys are going to be there. I’m going to try to to register to attend. I would love to be able to liveblog it. Katie, do you know if any other conflucians are going to try to do the same?

  10. The other thing I like about this map is the way her states cut through his. It seems so powerful.

  11. I know that whatever I saw on CNN couldn’t be accurate. I haven’t watched the news in so long that I’ve forgotten how biased they are. All I will watch now is FOX. What do they have to negotiate? From what I hear this is wrapped up and there’s no need to give her anything. Or maybe they are pushing that truly demeaning and sexist narrative that she wants her debts paid off.

  12. Obama coming to try to seduce NM!!

“Obama to Visit Site of Bataan Memorial Death March on Memorial Day…To Repair Dumb Comment Damage? (Or…To Straighten Out Foreign Policy Mix-up with Bill Richardson?)”

    With links to some video…
Will follow up on this when it happens to get some of the local flavor…

  13. gary, I haven’t heard. I can’t go. I haven’t heard anyone else say. Live blogging would be great.

Have they opened the registration yet?

  14. katie, it opens on tuesday. I’ll be waiting to try to get in. its kind of like a concert ticket kind of thing, first come first erve I guess. the link you have above goes to the registration site, but the form won’t be there till 10am tuesday. I have an air card for my computer so can actually blog from the meeting if I get in

  15. another question….does anyone know if CSPAN will be covering the meeting?

  16. Gary, Donna Brazile said that the DNC meeting will be probably on C-Span, I heard her say it on CNN. She said that all of their meetings are televised and open to the public.

  17. Ben,

As we have been repeatedly reminded, Bill and Hillary are RICH. I don’t think they are worried about their debts. Furthermore, Hillary took in 22M last month, and although Barack raised more, he spend a lot more than he took in. And she has a much bigger cushion for the GE than he does. It’s all part of the haka.

  18. Gary,

I know that C-Span covered the original meeting when the punishment was meted out. I’d be stunned if they didn’t cover this one. I’ll bet all the cable networks will be there. I’d much rather get your live take, though.

  19. gary- I heard that C-span is being pressured to carry it, but that they have not said they would. I plan on going. I was going to try to get a ticket, but I am not live blogging material. I’ve been trying out sign ideas in my head. My current favorite is “How did not counting Florida work out for us last time?” Followed by the always classic “Democrats count votes!”

  20. GRL,

What was the foreign policy mixup with Richardson? I missed that.

  21. I can still see Pete Williams back in Dec 2000 running down the steps of the SC reading the ruling as he spoke to the cameras. This should be televised for all the world to see if they are planning to push this in his direction. Those 30 members need to be held accountable for their decision. Hillary’s argument speaks for the people. Obama’s argument speaks for suppression. Let them face the world.

  22. Leave the ranting here.

Oh, thank you, at least I have somewhere to do it.

    “She is intolerable curst,
    And shrewd and froward, so
    beyond all measure…”

Hortensio may have been speaking of Kate, and the Obots may be speaking of Hillary, but today it describes me.

Shakespeare’s Sister just posted number 100 in their Hillary Sexism Watch.

    Thank you for your patience.

  23. thanks for the info guys. well i’m out of here for a while. get to spend the weekend on the beautiful NC coast!. have a great weekend everyone. I’m gonna try to find out whats happening in Puerto Rico by reading up their local press and post something over the weekend (I speak fluent spanish, so maybe I can find something)

  24. gary is awesome!

  25. Gary, have a good weekend! I’ve been reading mostly El Nuevo Dia and Primera Hora (websites) – I tend to steer from EL Vocero – but it’s worth a shot since Hillary needs all the good press she can get.

From what I read, she’ll be there for 3 days, Saturday afternoon till Monday, so there will be lots of campaigning & caravans & music & fun times.

  26. Honora, Jeralyn at TL is saying that C-Span is planning to cover the hearing. She also mentioned, in a post yesterday or the day before, that rules for the meeting include no signs, noisemakers, etc. They must realize tensions are really high on this one.

  27. {{gary}} I’ve become addicted to your words…. I’ll miss you dreadfully. Still, I’m generous enough to hope you have a great time. I know you will — it sounds wonderful.

  28. Gary,

    we love you!

  29. I’m off to lunch and then the golf course. Having lunch with another gay man who voted for Hillary and will be voting for McCain in the Fall. I’m finding it odd that my closest friends are all of the same political opinion regarding Barack. These are people I knew even before this election. I’ve always thought that a moderate republican could easily win the White House if he could just survive the nominating process. That may be happening now. Oh I know there are those who will say that McCain isn’t moderate and he keeps saying he’s conservative but he’s making himself very accessible to all of us in a way Romney or Huckabee couldn’t.

  30. SM, BostonBoomer, BDBlue and All Bostonians,

I’m sorry to ask this again, but, who’s going to DC? Anybody have any info on groups going on 5/31? Any info appreciated. Went to http://www.hillaryresponders.com but unable to find something heading out of Boston.

  31. SM– yeah, I was reading one of those that had a horribly anti-clinton article that says it was from AP. I don’t know if they just translate it from english or they do original stuff in spanish, I couldn’t find the english version. Anyway, more later. bye for now!!!!

  32. Ben,

I think a lot of the Gays are voting that way.

  33. Gay men that is

  34. Hi Elixir!

I’m in FL, but try the Count Every Vote button on Taylor Marsh’s site. I believe they have info on buses, etc.

I know that FDR is paying for transportaion and lodging for FL residents.

What I’m wondering is, WHO is paying for the busing & lodging? Is it a millionaire Hillary Supporter?

Speaking of millionaires, Harvey Weinstein from Miramax Films is an AVID Hillary supporter, I read in the NY Daily News that he has called every superdelegate & NY politician to count FL & MI in, even threatened the DNC from holding his big Hollywood fundraising parties if they don’t count FL & MI.

  35. Hey SM,

Thanks! I already registered on CountEveryVote, just waiting to hear about transportation. I don’t mind if the bus goes down and comes back all on 5/31. It would save on lodging.

Oh well, best of luck in FL. Thanks again.

  36. According to No Quarter, an as yet unreleased LA Times poll shows Barack Obama losing to McCain in CA. It doesn’t actually surprise me….

  37. BB, I think you already told me you can’t go to DC on 5/31, right?

  38. BB, Scary LATimes poll. This makes it even more important that Hillary goes all the way to the convention, if she must, to win this thing.

  39. Wow, he loses Florida?

Even if he doesn’t, polls like that will make it neccessary to spend a lot of time and money in CA.

  40. Elixir,

I can’t go. I think Mawm was looking for people to go with?

  41. The polls say Obama loses in mostly every state Hillary has won.

Screw that – I don’t care if the Obamabots’ hard drive explodes – Hillary has a solid case!

And Mawm, HOW MUCH MONEY does Obama have to spend? It’s already been proven that the more he spends, the less likely people vote for him.

  42. bostonboomer,

I have a way to get to the Rules Committee meeting on the 31st. I just thought it would be cool for people from this blog to meet at the rally.

    where are you from?

  43. SM,

    that’s funny.

  44. As far as Obama’s money goes, I have no evidence at all, so there is nothing to this but a hunch.

I have always been suspicious about Obama’s fundraising. I had heard the MSM narrative that Obama’s support was from ordinary people giving contribution < $100, and Hillary had fewer donors giving bigger contributions.
Needless to say I didn’t trust the medis narrative on that one. Then I heard that according to FEC rules, people contributing under $200 still have to be reported to the FEC, but campaigns do not have to make their names and addresses public.
It dawned on me that there might be a loophole there that would make it easier to hide fake donors. The FEC wouldn’t have time to check each person who made contributions totally < $200, but by not having to make public those names and addresses, it makes investigations by journalists and citizens impossible to conduct.
A week ago, I came across a statistic that said 95% of ALL his donors donated < $200.

It could all be legitimate, but knowing the way his campaign has conducted itself by trying to suppress votes and intimidate caucus goers, I would not put it past him to do it.
I imagine, if they are doing this, they call it the Oprah pipeline.

  45. Mawm,

HI, yes, I’m looking for transportation – I’m 10 miles outside of Boston. Are you near Boston? I can travel to where you are.

Do you know anyone else who’s going from around here?

  46. Mawm, they probably have some offshore bank funneling money into ghost bank accounts with “names.”

I don’t doubt for a second that this is an Execelon/Soros deal.

  47. This is awesome. Thanks for uplifting my peruse into morning politics. I feel like a have some good friends reading these comments. Keep up the great work!

  48. {{Charles}} I believed you when you said “great minds” — thank you!

And there’s another problem that Obama has — likability.

McCain came to our library in 1999 and spoke. Mister had something to do with the set up and he was VERY impressed with McCain’s graciousness. Everyone at the library (and librarians tend to be Democrats) was very taken with him.

After watching the way Obama interacts with The Common Man, I wonder if he has that same touch.

I think Hillary (on the other had) does.

  49. I don’t like Sen Obama, but McCain up in California? Not exactly…

Obama led McCain in the poll, 47-40%; in a Clinton matchup with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, she got 43%, he held steady at 40%.
