Did someone declare Opposite Day and forget to tell me? Up is down, white is black, Fox is “fair and balanced”? This new reality may not last as long as it will take to wrap my brain around it. So, let’s study the entrails carefully to see what they portend:
- In Faltering Economy Plays to a Clinton Strength, NYTimes reporter Jody Kantor describes Hillary Clinton’s stump speech on the economy in Indiana as being delivered with “sensuous detail”. Large throngs of voters are showing up for her appearances. Some are staring longingly into her eyes and mouthing secret messages? Where is the NYTimes reporter and what have you done with her, Jodi? Someone’s been up staying up late and reading too many policy papers. Either that or Hillary is really letting her hair down. Like, someone in the campaign took a look at the latest polls and said, “You know, your numbers go up when you’re flirtatious. Try doing something erotic on the globalization front.” Jeez and I thought it was only us geeks who got off on that stuff. But seriously, it’s a good read about Hillary’s thoughts on outsourcing and her vision of the green economy. She’s tapping into something. Very encouraging.
- Sugar ‘n Spice ventured to the dark side to catch Obama on Fox News Sunday and found- that she liked it? Bill Kristol said nice things about Hillary? Wha’?:
KRISTOL: He’s ahead. Primary voters usually like to finish the deal and sort of go with the winner. He outspend her 2.5 to one in Pennsylvania, and she beat him by 10 points. She is a better candidate than he is. That is the fact.
He has run a better campaign than she has. He has won the caucus states. She has gotten more votes in primaries than he has. When voters actually go to the polls, for all the talk about Obama’s bringing out unprecedented new voters, blah, blah, blah, she beats him. She’s better than he is.
Just go read it. Bill Kristol becomes a Sensitive New Age Guy. It’s not real. It’s almost like… journalism. Weird. Update: MABlue pointed me to this new column by Bill Kristol in the NYTimes Op section today called “Hillary Gets No Respect”. I’m feeling vertigo. Kristol is a sadist for upsetting my equilibrium like this. It’s either that or Republicans really hate McCain.
- Barack Obama says that race is not a factor in US elections. Whew! That’s a relief. I guess I can put away my white sheets and hood. Did Obama tell the 90% of the African-American population that they can stop getting incensed over every little thing that a Clinton person says, ‘cos I’m not sure they got that message last week in PA or this week in NC. But anyway, it’s great to see that we can move past race for the rest of the year. I thought I was over it since, oh, I don’t know, kindergarten? (Wait, I didn’t go to Kindergarten. That probably explains my initial confusion) What a shock it was for me to find out that I an a latent racist because I didn’t think Obama was ready to be president. Learn something new everyday. Well, thank God I have been rehabilitated in time for November.
- Oh, wait, Donna Brazile says “There will be blood” if the African-American population doesn’t get Obama as its nominee. As if all of the regular, hard working, professional and working stiff African-Americans have time to start a revolution and torch the place if a neophyte, pandering, first term senator from Illinois who plans to sell them out if he wins doesn’t get to be the BMOC in August and some more deserving, harder working, concerned for their well being, more qualified female senator does. Like they don’t have better things to do with their time like most average Americans and are all just chomping at the bit to throw away decades of progress because Donna Brazile thinks they should be enraged. Yep, Donna is still an idiot. All’s right with the world.

I think you have to add Kristol’s opinion piece from today in the mix. I commented about it in the previous thread.
MABlue: did he go back to normal?
It’s a sad day when we have to watch FoxNews, because they’re the only ones who are telling the truth.
The only thing I don’t like about FoxNews is that hateful Dick Morris comments on the Hannity & Combs show. I think he’d like to do heinous things to Hillary. Of course, we all know it’s sour grapes, because his tenure in the first Clinton White House was cut short.
I also watch FoxNews on election night, because they seem to be the first ones to put up actual vote totals. The others spend too much time talking about their exit polls. Of course, I have to mute the sound to keep from listening to the idiot pundits.
rd:
It’s a great column (well for us). The title alone tells the story:
Hillary Gets No Respect
MABlue: I think the media has figured out that the harder they are on Clinton, the more sympathy she gets from voters. BUT it might also be the case that if they print the truth, she may win voters as well.
But the “senuous details” thing is really bizarre. It’s almost like setting her up to be some sort of seductress, when clearly she isn’t. Are they setting expectations too high for her?
I know, the whole Fox thing is scarry…..I used to love CNN and NBC. ABC is not too bad….
Or scary….. 😉
No, scarry seems just as appropriate. The media has scarred many careers.
I saw the Fox show yesterday. I actually think Bill Kristol was just telling the truth as he sees it. I think it would be hard for anyone who is even close to objective these days not to see that Hillary is a dramatically better candidate than Barack.
I just heard some BREAKING news…Howard Dean has opened his mouth again and put his foot in it as usual. He said on one of the morning shows that one of the candidates must drop out in June or the party will not be able to heal. He also says the race is “essentially tied.” Um….what if the race is still tied in June?
Howard Dean is going to wake up at some point and realize that he has no power to tell either of the candidates what to do. Okay, he may have more influence on Barry, since it seems there is some collusion between the Obama campaign and the DNC, but I’d like to see Howard try to make Hillary do something she doesn’t want to do.
BB: I think it’s the journalistic equivalent of the Vronsky Feint. Repeat to yourself, “The media is not our friend” over and over again until it becomes second nature. I don’t know what they’re up to but it’s unnatural, I tell you. Don’t trust them.
Yeah, Howard is a dick.
Remember: Kristol is the same asshat who said “white women” are a problem. I would suggest not bothering to read it; it’ll just mess with your head.
I honestly don’t know where to turn for the news anymore. I have dropped just about all my former go-to sites, including the NYT, Guardian, Independent, and even the Nation. Only the BBC News is left and even they’re a bit “off.” The BBC largely gives Obama a free pass and hit a new low when they pushed the Drudge African garb photo smear, acting as stenographers for the Obama campaign–without ever bothering to correct the lie.
As long as Rev Wright keeps talking the hole is just going to get deeper. He is only trying to reshape his own image at the expense of Obama. Not a nice thing to do to a friend. As for Kristol, I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him but it is not a bad thing that he came out in favor of Hillary. I hope the voters in Indiana, particularly the 21% undecided, are taking a closer look at an Obama presidency. Not a good think.
“Campaign Alert” says MSNBC.
“HAPPENING NOW” screams CNN.
Woa–must be big stuff! Drop everything, this is BIG!!
DNC agrees to count FL & MI? Howard Dean & Donna Brazille cite “complete and utter stupidity” for joint reason to step down from DNC, urge all Dems to throw support to HRC “for the good of the party?” Obama, reflecting on his absolute lack of a point and zero qualifications, decides to drop out of the race, “for the good of the country?”
No.
Jeremiah Wright is spouting some grade-A, self-aggrandizing bullshit and it’s BREAKING NEWS?
Things that make me go, “WTF…”
Riverdaughter, so glad you found the Judy Woodruff piece!
(I get seriously trollrated at the other place for suggesting that she dogwhistles to us policy wonks in debates)
Finally the press gets it.
Judy Kantor.
Why I’m not a journalist.
Isn’t Hillary having too much fun? She is just playing yoyo with Obama’s refusal to debate:
Clinton’s New Debate Proposal: On the Back of a Flatbed Truck
Come on BO, you can do it.
What Judy Woodruff piece? Which dogwhistles?
Boy, that offer could be taken the wrong way. LOL

I am watching this speech and he comes across as an arrogant speaker. Amazing!
God, Hill is so funny. Does BO always have to use the royal “We”?
I think the “sensuous” thing is just another slam at wonkiness, and at, you know, those dumb voters who care about “jobs jobs jobs.”
On the back of a flatbed truck? Hilarious! Man, that woman has got Obama’s number.
Yeah, what the heck is the memo behind blaring Rev. Wright incessesantly on Sunday and then dissecting his words for the next 24 hours? Eek!
All of this really does make you go “huh?”. I’m so synical that I suspect there are dark reasons for this anti-Obama sentiment.
I guess there really is payback and us hard working, dedicated and enlightened Hillary supporters are getting ours. Or we’re just screwed and we don’t know it.
Oh, RD,
You must stop my sides are hurting. I have to say you, and the rest of the Confluence crowd, have a very wry sense of humor. This was a great thread for lightening my morning.
Hey, MABlue, I hope you don’t mind but I posted your great heads up about Clinton’s debate challenge at Corrente. It was too good to pass up.
I really think Hillary’s challenges will produce a debate. I’m praying it’s on the flatbed truck.
I was slightly encouraged this morning when I was watching Dean on CCN (no MSNBC for me because Joe Scarborough was out and Minka Pinhead was running the show, yuk.) John Roberts actually put Dean’s feet to the fire: How can you tell the superdelegates to make up their minds NOW but say at the same time they can decide whenever they want? What is your problem, man?!! Dean got all flustered, he really is a huge disappointment.
Oh, oh, and when he was asked about FL/MI he said he wouldn’t answer any questions about that.
What a great Monday Morning post!
I love the “sensuous” description. What, did HRC get caught displaying an extra micromillimeter of cleavage again? Or was the hem of her pantsuit a little bit higher than usual? Ohhhh, sexy, sexy HRC! 🙂
As for Fox News, I’m absolutely convinced that their latest strategy of being more “fair and balanced” than MSNBC is just a ratings gimmick. They know HRC supporters have nowhere to go, so they’re filling the gap. Don’t give Murdoch the viewership! They are in the tank for McCain, now and forever, no matter what nice things they say about either Democrat.
Keep up the great work.
“Donna Brazile says “There will be blood” if the African-American population doesn’t get Obama as its nominee.”
In terms of pure political utility, the AA demographic is sinking and the Hispanic demographic is rising. This is just about the last chance to use the AA vote as a big lever.
There is another story out there as well. “Eyes on Blue-Collar Voters, Obama Shifts Style”. The money quote:
yep, the world has turned upside down since the beginning of the primary season.
RD–
Don’t worry. I don’t think Kristol is our friend. I don’t think any of them are our friends. I just think Kristol actually believed what he said and it just slipped out–especially the part about sexism. He looked really sheepish after he said that, and I don’t think he would have said it if he’d been able to catch himself.
BB: He also wouldn’t be on TV so often if he couldn’t act. Ooo, I just thought of something. Maybe it was her Obliteration remark that makes her suddenly look so hot to them.
This is what I just e-mailed to the DNC:
Did Donna Brazile really say “there will be blood” if Barry doesn’t get the Democratic nomination? Does that mean the African Americans are going to riot if Hillary beats Barry out of the nomination? Do you think us white folks are going to riot if Hillary doesn’t get the nomination? Barry is buying his way to the nomination. Those new voters he touts are a bunch of mean-spirited brats. If that’s the new Democratic Party, you guys are going to be losing a lot of us older, middle-class folks who hate Jell-O.
dcDem – Yes, it is good to Obama taking kroves advice – rotfl…
Some advice for Obama – from the guy who never, ever lost an election – rapper KR.
Dear Senator Obama …
NEWSWEEK
http://www.newsweek.com/id/134322/page/2
Charles: I have very close family members in Denver and I am going to be royally pissed if they get hurt. Barry’s going to pay dearly if one hair on their heads are singed.
Briana: Clearly, Rove doesn’t expect Obama to follow his advice, because if he did, he would be following Rove’s advice, anathema among Democrats. But Rove’s advice is completely correct, so Rove has cut off Obama’s only route of escape for his spiral downward.
Rise, Hillary. Rise.
Fall, Barack. Fall.
The statement made by Donna Brazile should make the superdelegates want to support Hillary. These threats of violence from the likes of Doug Wilder and Donna Brazile are appalling. We do not need a President whose supporters threaten violence if they don’t get their way. Barry the Bird Flipper will never get my vote.
DCD: LOL! It’s a catch-22.
Just read the KRove piece. Take his advice, Barry! Do everything he says. (bwahahahahahaaaaah!)
My favorite quote from the Nagourney article?
“Mr. Obama’s advisers are also debating whether he should give another major speech intended to lay out themes of his candidacy — particularly the change he would bring to Washington — that they fear have been muddled in one of the toughest months of his campaign.”
Yeah, that’s just what you need to do Barry, give another speech. It would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic. This is a glimpse into what we can expect if he gets to the White House, four years of earnest speechifying in the face of national crises. Ugh.
Well, lookie lookie. Who is the more electable? In your face! It’s 3am Obambi:
Poll: Clinton has better
chance than Obama of beating McCain
By LIZ SIDOTI,
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON –
Hillary Rodham Clinton has a better chance than Barack Obama of
beating Republican John McCain, according to a new Associated
Press-Ipsos poll that bolsters her argument that she is more electable
in the fall than her rival for the Democratic nomination.
The survey released Monday gives Clinton a
fresh talking point as she works to convince pivotal undecided
superdelegates to side with her in the drawn-out Democratic primary
fight.
Clinton, who won the Pennsylvania primary last week, has gained
ground this month in a hypothetical head-to-head match up with the GOP
nominee-in-waiting; she now leads McCain, 50 percent to 41 percent,
while Obama remains virtually tied with McCain, 46 percent to 44
percent.
Riverdaughter, could you look into this? I was reading the comments on Taylor Marsh post (http://www.taylormarsh.com/archives_view.php?id=27524) and came across references to an incident that happened on Sat. night at Hillary’s Durham, N.C., office. Apparently the door was struck with a projectile fired from some sort of air gun. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
See the 10:35 p.m. comment by Shtuey: “Clearly this sinker was fired from a non-rifled air or gas propelled gun of some kind. A rifled barrel sends a straight shot. From the impact mark on the sinker it travelled end over end. The door was plexiglass. For it to be impacted the way it is from the distance it was fired (it was from a passing car) this was no little bb gun.” There’s an update at 1:52 a.m.
I can’t find any other references to this and with my two-year old awake from his nap and squirming on my lap now, I am out of time!
Am I the only one who finds the hints and whispers of Denver riots unacceptably racist? That they feed into a horrible stereotype about AA’s that Brazile and others should not want to perpetuate about their own communities.
And, IMO, if there are going to be riots, it won’t be started by the AA’s, but by the frat boy supporters, who will tear up a town over a NCAA championship?
I mean, really, if you look at recent instances of civil unrest in this country, these have been started by white hooligans, so exuberant about their teams win, that they MUST DESTROY.
Hey, SD’s there’s another reason to go for Clinton, since it seems more likely they will riot in joy, than riot in anger.
Bill Clinton for First Dude!
Wow. Are we finally seeing signs of an implosion on the part of Obama? It’s certainly starting to look like it. When his strongest supporters are refusing to talk about FL/MI, threatening violence and calling everyone in America a racist, it’s sure starting to seem that way.
Brazile really thinks she’s helping him by announcing black violence right before a Southern primary? Refresh my memory, y’all – is NC an open primary or just Dems? Because I suspect she just ratcheted up the Bubba vote for Hillary about 10,000 percent if it’s open.
One more thing: OOOOOPS on the part of all the media/DNC types that came out early with the idea Obama’s a sure thing. I suspect his bankrolling by a certain Chicago billionaire (whose show I will never watch again) had a lot to do with that impression…Hillary is just as tough as we all thought from the beginning on this. Not only could she stare down Ken Starr with a knife in her teeth and come out smelling like a rose, I suspect the next couple of weeks are going to be A Lot. Of. Fun.
Yaaaaay!!!!!
Calling for riots in Denver WILL NOT win the election in November. Ugh! I didn’t mean to make that rhyme.
I was only 10-years-old, but I remember 1968 very well. Rioting will only hurt the candidate’s chances of winning over middle America.
And for Donna Brazile to say such a thing, she’s not representing her race very well—much less doing anything to elevate the status of African-Americans above the stereotypical racist view. If the blacks riots, white America will go in droves to vote for John McCain. Someone needs to tell Donna to zip it.
That’s the thing Lucinda, I don’t think the AA’s will riot. The AA community in this country is very peacable, even with LA hanging over their heads.
The most recent examples of riots I have seen, have been in college towns, when their team wins a Championship. So if there are riots, they will be started by the “creative class” supporters of Obama, not the AA community. And, their tendency for rioting is when their team wins, not win they lose, so I would guess(based on stereorypes, like Ms. Brazile) that they would riot if Obama won the nomination.
So, are Donna Brazile and Rush Limbaugh in cahoots? Because Limbaugh suggested last week on his idiotic radio show that his “goal” was to have riots in the streets in Denver “just like Chicago in 1968.” Why does Rush want this? Because it will ensure that the Republicans keep the White House.
So, we understand why Limbaugh wants riots. Why does Donna want riots? Because she thinks its a better tactic for ensuring Obama’s nomination than holding her breath until it turns blue?
Someone has to get that woman out of the DNC. She is worse than an idiot.

Hey Judith – could you please use another posting name? I have been here from the beginning as judith – you have claimed it at two other sites and I agreed so I hope you will respect my request here.
Thanks – judith
that Kristol column is insidious – he pulls you in because you want to see something positive about HRC…but he says Obama will probably win. So basically he is pulling down Obama – not doing Clinton any favors. Dont be a sucker – blow him off.
