    • Tornado night
I spent a half-hour tonight sitting in the hallway, waiting out a tornado warning. It never hit here (I don’t think we got more than a sprinkle of rain) but it did hit the Hellmouth, where I used to live north of here. It hit the local mall, and took down a nearby car dealership … Continue reading Tornado night

Clinton Cocktail Party- Tequila Sunrise

woman-with-cocktail-glass-and-rose-is611-019.jpgHi, all. Well, tonight is the night before the last round-up in Texas. I’m pulling for Hillary to pull this one out. She seems to be adapting. Maybe she didn’t know she even *had* a grassroots before. Let’s hope she discovers our power on the plains of Texas.

Welcome to the Clinton Cocktail Party. Sorry I’m late with this post. The BFF and I went on a fruitless search for a new MacBook Pro in NJ. The one we wanted was sold out in 3 locations. It sucked up most of my Saturday. But here we are now. Say hello to Rico, our bartender with flair! Tonight’s featured drink is a Tequila Sunrise. You probably don’t even need the recipe for that one. But if you’re not into that, order anything you like. We’re easy (but not cheap).

Tonight’s entertainment consists of a compilation of Texans and their music. We have a little bit of everything from Leadbelly to Bessie Smith, Lyle Lovett to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Don Henley to Willie Nelson. I’m going to start us off with a Texas Playboys number that is actually sung by a lady from OKlahoma, Carrie Underwood. San Antonio Rose. (Bear with the intro.)

The rest of the compilation is in a playlist you can find here. (I tried to embed a custom player but it wasn’t working out. If anyone knows how to get the suckers to work in WordPress, let me know)

When everybody is having a good time, it would be a shame to get trigger happy with your words. So feel free to leave them with Florence, our lovely check room attendent. The waiters will be circulating with some guacamole, piggy back dates and assorted munchies. Please drink responsibly and tip your wait staff generously.

  1. Rico, I’ll have a beer if you don’t mind. I gotta wind down.

  2. I just put up a press v Obama sighting. It seems the Chosen One had a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day with the media, and called it quits early.

Abundantly reported … I excerpted Milbank … feel free to add your own sightings in the thread above.

And I’ll do a sunrise. Tall one. Tomorrow could be a bright shiny day.

  3. Romk: Saw your post. Pretty funny. I admit to feeling some schadenfreude on Obama’s behalf. He has no idea what’s coming his way. He’d better toughen up quickly. Wait until they start saying how Malia and Sasha are going through awkward phases, but meaner. *Then* I’ll feel some sympathy for him. Until then, you reap what you sow. Sounds like a disaster for him.

  4. Hi, I’m a profoundly sick puppy who puts the Clintons over party, and party over country! That’s what I’ve just been told over in that Other Place, so I figured it’s time to call it a night and wander over here. Hope you don’t mind the cooties.

  5. Rich: Use the hand sanitizer before you touch the keyboard.
Hey, wait a minute, they said *you* put the Clintons over party??! At least we know what party she’s in. She’s not embarrassed to promote core Democratic principles.
    Have a double, it’s therapeutic.

  6. Yeah, it’s funny but a scene like that can be a game-changer on the eve of an election, with a lot of votes still in flux.

Rich in PA — The other place is still in total denial, on almost everything important. Goolsbee, national security, you name it. “Hillary endorses McCain” or some such is the topic of the day. Bless ’em.

  7. ronk: Timing is everything but will there be enough time for the flavors to mingle? I don’t know. It was certainly a risky move but it sounds like it was one he had to do to stop the bleeding of some internal poll numbers.
I still think it’s going to be very close.
Rico, I’ll take a sunrise. Light on the grenadine.

  8. Timing in this case was perfect. It’ll be on air late tonite and early tomorrow, he seemed defensive and discourteous, he backtracked some but left big questions unanswered.

Couldn’t time it or script it much better, and momentum was already with our gal. It’s that old “static friction exceeds sliding friction” principle. If I read the lab notes right, we’re now in sliding friction territory.

  9. Guys, I have an ethical dilemma. As much as I want Hillary to win, I don’t want it to be by riding some unsubstantiated rumors. I have to believe, in this day and age, that Obama wouldnt have gotten into this race if he had any skeletons to hide wrt Rezko. Surely he’s seen how the GOP-media complex has a talent for blowing molehills into mountains. It seems to me that it is wrong to perpetuate what might just be scurrilous rumors and innuendos. I’d much rather nail him on something he’s actually done (like the Goolsbee meeting) or not done (like the foreign relations committee that he chairs but doesn’t actually schedule meetings for). Am I being too naive? I know that there is a certain amount of score settling that Clinton’s team has to do because Obama hasn’t run the clean campaign he claims. But am I wrong for feeling that Rezko should be off limits? I can certainly restrict this to myself and wouldn’t want to impose a rule on anyone.

  10. The Rezko thing is a whole lot of nothing, so far as I’m concerned. People like that are magnetically attracted to power or the promise of power, and it takes a superhuman resolve to shoo them away. I don’t expect anything superhuman from anyone, as a definitional matter 🙂

Having said that, Obama made his hypermoralistic, holier-than-thou bed and if someone wants to throw kerosene all over it, I’m not going to have a big problem with that.

  11. Rich: ditto

  12. Obama got nailed on everything they could nail in eight questions. Yeah Rezko is probably nothing – but the Goolsbee choreography tells the press that Rezko could be something too.

With Goolsbee you had non-denial denials, then flat denials, then the smoking gun, then lame excuses.

Obama gets dinged for similar avoidance with Rezko – Lynn Sweet’s big complaint is that he has answered questions, but hasn’t sat down with the reporters who are closest to the story. Obama is tripped up by his own high-hat holiness … and that’s fair in my book.

  13. Just like Goolsbee-gate. The issue is candor, not policy nuance — but I think I have decoded most of Obama08’s cumulative denial.

“I was not authorized by the campaign, the meeting was ‘banal and trivial’, those aren’t direct quotes, how could they possible think I meant NAFTA, it was only 3 minutes out of 40, the meeting flatly did not occur exactly when and where somebody first said it did, it’s not what it looks like (darling), everybody knows where we stand anyway, and besides … I was wearing a different hat!”

    Does that about cover it?

  14. Riverdaughter:

As of now, you don’t have to worry about that. Maybe if he s our nominee.

Remember why we are not supposed to vote for Clinton? Republicans hate her.
That’s all BO’s supporter have been telling us, including creeps like Frank Rich.

How long have we been blackmailed with “If you put Hillary Clinton up in November, Republicans will come up with ALL this stuff they have on her”. (Yeah, Drudge has been seating on ALL this Hillary dirt and just waiting until she is the nominee).

All these “progressive” have been perfectly happy to scare us with some innuendo about HRC. They are willing to even advance any rumor if they think it will clinch the nomination for their guy.

A good illustration is that putrid post from Aravosis. Remember that people like Josh Marshall and Kevin Drum jumped on the Drudge bandwagon and blamed HRC for the “picture”. They knew that pushing the idea that the Clinton campaign was behind the picture will make her look horrible and bigoted.

One more thing that didn’t get enough attention: In the Atlantic with BO (the issue where Andrew Sullivan droolingly had multiple orgasms writing how Barack is the new Jesus), Marc Ambinder wrote that the Obama Campaign (he actually gave names) was furiously asking journalists why they are not investigating Bill Clinton’s post-presidential sex life?

So, sympathy here. In fact. looking around me, I am seeing only schadenfreude and I am wallowing in it.

My message to BO: “As far as I’m concerned, you can suck it up bitch!”

  15. riverdaughter, my feeling is that the Rezko thing wouldn’t be anything except for the timing. This trial is giving the media something new to talk about. And we already know from The White Water business that an issue doesn’t have to exist for it to become a Big Deal.

If They want it to be.

It would have been better all around if the trial was last year. But as it is, I’m glad it’s now. Because however much I don’t think it’s Anything. If we’re wrong and it turns into Something this summer, the Super Delegates can save us from a really bad mistake.

  16. I have been off the blogs almost all day, and am now sitting here alone in the dark (/snark) working on an opening. I watched Hillary on TDS — she was GREAT. The Daily Obama was salivating over the weekend about how Stewart was going to tear her apart. I tried to tell them he wouldn’t, but who am I?

In the meantime, what is all this about Obama having a Horrible, Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day? Did he have a press conference or something? I normally watch KO if I am up at this hour but I am punishing my ex-boyfriend now plus I really am supposed to be writing this opening……

  17. gatormom — It’s the next post up … but for now, let’s drink to tucsonlynn, gqmartinez, and anybody else who caught the last train to Texas to help pull out the big one.

  18. Hi everyone.

It’s so lovely to read your comments. I feel good about tomorrow. Cautiously, but had to say that I am optimistic.

She is really amazing. Like Al Gore, when the pressure got to both of them, you realized how amazing each one of them was.
