    • Rationality Is A Process, Not A Conclusion (Nuclear Weapons Edition)
A lot of mistakes come from assuming rationality means “thinks the same way I do” rather than “reasons from premises I might not share.” Left than 1/1000 economists predicted the financial collapse, because they reasoned from assumptions like “the market is self-correcting” or “housing prices never go down.” (Sometimes both at the same time, which is rarely […]

Nightcap- Tuesday in February

scotchI’m beat, guys.  I’ve been dealing with Excel all evening.  It makes me want to rape and kill.  So, I’m heading over to Joe’s for a nightcap.  There’s no crowd tonight.  Just some tables near the music and a long wooden bar gleaming in the low light.  Joe polishes the heck out of the bar.  It’s his baby.

The singer is new tonight. I’ve heard her play down at Blues Alley.  She’s sooo soothing…

Set’em up, Joe.  Make it a Macallan’s 12 yr old OTR.  Ahhhh….

  1. I’ll stick to some warm lemonade thanks. But I’ll sit a spell and listen..thanks for the music!

  2. wonderful…just wonderful
    just what the doctor ordered.

    Thank you!

  3. Hi.

I decided to avoid the election returns in favor of cuddling with my daughter in front of American Idol, on the assumption that American Idol would be more highbrow than the election return analysis.

I just tuned in in time to hear a reprise of Obama’s Greatest Hits. I missed her speech — although as I type I hear Tim Russert criticizing her for not “conceding” or congratulating Obama.

So I am very grateful for the single malt and the music.

  4. Okay, something totally hilarious just happened. Rep. Stephanie Young of Ohio, and some Senator whose name I didn’t catch and whose face I didn’t recognize appeared on MSNBC to talk about Wisconsin. Young is a Clinton supporter, Senator Who is an Obama supporter.

Out of nowhere, Tweety asks Senator Who to name one legislative accomplishment of Obama in the Senate. He was utterly stumped. After a lot of huminah huminahs, and some sharp follow-up from Matthews (“I asked you a simple question, Senator”) he admitted that he couldn’t think of anything at the moment but that it didn’t matter because Obama has the power to inspire.

After the two guests had left, KO asked Tweety if he could name any legislative accomplishments of the Senate this year. Tweety responded, I am not here to represent the Senate, that guy was here to represent Obama and he should have been able to answer the question. KO said, well, I guess I agree…

I wonder if it will be up on Youtube or C&L, or whether those sites have also been taken over by the Obamaphiles.

  5. Have fun. Well, I think Taylor Marsh said it best of anyone. Her post made me grit my teeth even harder. She can finally be proud after 44 years huh? Unreal.

  6. I’m wondering if reading (most) political blogs is dangerous for my mental health. Does anyone else feel emotionally wobbly?

  7. Katiebird: Yes. Me too. I still support and hope for Hillary, but I am beginning to feel…sad.

  8. Here is my opinion – nothing to do with anyone here:

I saw a bit of the Tweety clip. It was disgusting. So Tweety grinds HRC under his foul sexist heel , gets away with it, and NOW decides to go after an Obama supporter in an aggressive and insulting manner? He couldnt just ask the question – he had to be insulting?

I cant tell you how revolted I am by the sites who say – oh they are so bad at MSNBC – let;s go watch them and then talk about how bad they are. Why? You are just feeding the beast – they LOVE IT.

He is damaging all of us as is his network.

  9. ok – I have chilled a bit. I am not sad, though, Katiebird – I am disgusted. But I turn the energy to my work – best thing to do. Cover yourself. Irrational exuberance is always followed by a smack in the head.
