riverdaughter aka RD: Some of you may know me by my DailyKos username, goldberry. I am a forty something resident of the deepest, darkest jungles of the central New Jersey suburbs working in research as a computational chemist. My hometown is Pittsburgh, PA and my relatives all had houses within site of one of the four rivers. The picture in the header is of the convergence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers to form the Ohio at The Point in downtown Pittsburgh. It seems like an apt metaphor for bringing the divided together again. We will start with the Democratic party and then work to bring together the rest of the country. We will come together at our common goals and go forward together, strengthened and mighty
Politically, I am a lifelong Democrat who leans to the moderate side. I prefer to call myself a “rational” Democrat. In the mid-90’s, I ran for and was elected to my local school board. I support Hillary Clinton although I didn’t always. But she convinced me that she was better than the others at YearlyKos07.

Katiebird: Is a former librarian and information scientist living in Kansas. A lifelong liberal Democrat she’s been eagerly anticipating Universal Health Care for Everyone since attending a debate on the issue between Teddy Kennedy and Carter’s Secretary of Health, Education and Labor (Joseph Califano) at the 1978 Democratic MidTerm Convention (which she attended as a delegate). Katiebird was one of the first conflucians to answer the call to co-blog and is a trusted administrator and contributor.
BostonBoomer: Is a 60 something woman living in the greater Boston area. She returned to college in 1993 and recently earned her PhD in developmental psychology from a major university in Boston. She is now trying to figure out what to do next. She has been a political junkie since she followed the 1960 presidential election in Mr. Holt’s eighth grade social studies class (Storer Jr. High, Muncie, IN), where she was one of only two JFK supporters. She is proud to be a nonconforming outsider who struggles every day to resist consensus reality and figure out what is really going on.
Dakinikat: teaches economics and finance at university in Louisiana. She proudly hails from the ninth ward in New Orleans and lives a little less than a mile from the French Quarter in a typical New Orleans-styled shot gun Victorian with all that gingerbread trimming. When she is not living a real-life episode of “This Old House”, you can usually find her playing jazz piano around New Orleans and New York City. She’s an avid reader, composes music (including songs recorded by Destiny’s Child and Justin Timberlake), has published textbooks, and is in perpetual persuit of the perfect gumbo. She’s also the proud mother of two daughters. One is doing her ob-gyn residency. The other is studying finance but majoring in partying.
StateofDisbelief: (or SoD as most Conflucians know her) is the classic “bitter knitter.” She’s a forty-something (rapidly closing in on the big 5-0) freelance O.D. consultant and Hillary Clinton devotee that never forgot the bounty of the Clinton years. She’s been married for 30 years with a daughter in college. Her moniker represents the overall sense of bewilderment that overtook her during the primaries and her writing runs the gamut from anything that sparks her ire to issues of social structures and social equality.

littleIsis: is a College Student majoring in Nursing, located somewhere in North East Ohio. As a liberal Bohemian and budding mystic, her writing deals mostly with LGBT rights and societal defects of the Patriarchy, but she also likes snark, dish, and politics.
quixote: Quixote has been messing about for far too long getting a degree in naturopathic medicine, a doctorate in biology, and teaching college to make a living. (Considering the amount of money involved, that phrase is used in a purely academic sense.) Acid Test is the knight’s own haunt and has links to other pursuits, such as an evolving treatise on how to fight windmills, a photo gallery, and science fiction writing (for those times when the windmills win).
Regencyg: Regencyg came of age just in time to vote in the 2008 presidential primary. She was a Democrat (big D) born and raised until the corruption, sexism, and media bias of 2008 opened her eyes to the idea that maybe one Party wasn’t so different from the other. While she supported Hillary Rodham Clinton for President, she made the controversial decision to back the Republican ticket once it became apparent that Clinton wouldn’t be the Dem nominee. As with Hillary Clinton, she put her heart into the race and was greatly saddened by the outcome. Since the election, she has refocussed her attention on college, but she is never too busy to tell the disappointed opposition “I told you so.”
SM77: Our spicy Latina in Florida gave PUMA a name when she said after the RBC hearing in May: Party Unity My Ass! This 30 something who works in advertising continues to come up with snappy summaries of this election year including the new term “post-electable”, a perfect description of Obama.
Steven Mather: Steven teaches at a technical institute in the land of ice and snow. In terms of qualifications, he is journeyman-certified in three building trades disciplines, has an M.Ed. in Philosophy, and is currently a doing a Ph.D. in Agriculture, Life, and Environmental Sciences.

Rico the Bartender: Rico is a licensed massage therapist and occasionally works as a body double for a certain Hollywood star with whom he bears an uncanny resemblance. He refuses to divulge any information about his background but admits his ambition is to appear on Dancing With The Stars. Rico hosts our open threads.
