    • The Syrian Civil War
To put it simply, Assad is most likely going to win this.  Hizbollah has clearly turned the facts on the ground for him, and Syrian public opinion appears to have decisively turned against the rebels.  10% support is too low, it can keep them going low-grade, but it’s not sufficient to win it.  This is [...]

Ponderables: Part the second

Here are the things I am wondering tonight (in no particular order):

Is it possible for someone in Kansas to deliver a large galvanized tub of margaritas on the rocks to Katiebird so she can sit in it during the heatwave?

What did Tim Geithner know and when did he know it?  As the head of the New York Fed during the dark days of the financial collapse, he must have known that US banks were dicking around with the LIBOR rates.  And if so, is this the part of the reason why he decided to “stress test” the banks without the help of the FDIC?

Why is the “paper of record” silent on LIBOR?  Right now, it’s got some hit piece on Hillary making her look like she is single handedly negotiating the next foreign trade agreement with China when the truth is a lot more complicated than that.  But WHY is the NYTimes complicit in smearing Clinton when it could be having a veritable feast with the LIBOR scandal?

Why is the full tube of unused caulk in the basement dried up and unusable?

Has anyone grouted tile before?  BTW, here is an excellent step-by-step instruction video on how to tile a backsplash from Amy Matthews and DIYNetwork:

  1. The antipathy of the NYT columnists to the Clinton is to the same as Irish peasants hatred of their English masters.

    • If one reads the history dispassionately, he Irish peasants had/have good reason for their hatred towards the English, whereas the NYT’s hatred towards the Clintons seems irrational to me.

  2. Why does that galvanized tub sound Sooooo appealing? It’s not as if it was 108 degrees today. Oh, wait.

I guess embezzlement works as long as you have the crooks verifying the books. And it looks like Bank Fraud works the same way?

“The Paper of Record” does it still exist in that form?

And the caulk. It must have been opened — just a crack would be enough.

    Link please…
I just did a search at the NYT website and came out with nothing

The NYT gives credit to Ron Kirk for the Obama’s trade policy

Ron Kirk, a former mayor of Dallas, is the Obama administration’s senior official in charge of trade policy.
A lawyer with a political bent, he comes from the Texas establishment and has spoken out in favor of theNorth American Free Trade Agreement.
In December 2010, Mr. Kirk scored an important victory, as South Korea and the Obama administration completed a free-trade agreementthat will eliminate most tariff exports and solidify one of America’s most important alliances.

    • I meant to say: The NYT gives credit to Ron Kirk for the Obama administration’s trade policy.

    • This was the story the NYT had on their front page for most of the day yesterday:
Clinton makes effort to rechannel the rivalry with China” There was an accompanying blurb with it that made it sound like she was heavily involved in shipping our jobs there. Of course, it’s not the front page story now. I don’t know when they took it down overnight. Nevertheless, it’s like the LIBOR scandal has never happened. There’s no trace of it on the Times frontpage and it really should have some mention of it since it’s such a big story in Britain. It’s coming to American whether the NYT wants it to or not so why not get out in front of it? No, it must smear Clinton instead. I know propaganda when I see it. That was it. The actual story was a confusing piece of weirdness about her actual mission. It’s like they had to bend over backwards to make it look like she was making secret trade deals.
