Willie Nelson smokes pot? I’m shocked!

Next to Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong and Snoop Dogg is there anyone in this country more well-known for toking up?

The NYT rolling papers:

Willie Nelson Freed After Drug Arrest

A U.S. Border Patrol spokesman says country singer Willie Nelson was charged with marijuana possession after 6 ounces was found aboard his tour bus in Texas.

Patrol spokesman Bill Brooks says the bus pulled into the Sierra Blanca, Texas, checkpoint about 9 a.m. Friday. Brooks says an officer smelled pot when a door was opened and a search turned up marijuana.

Brooks says the Hudspeth County sheriff was contacted and Nelson was among three people arrested.

Sheriff Arvin West didn’t immediately return a phone message left at his home Friday, but he told the El Paso Times that Nelson claimed the marijuana was his. The singer was held briefly a $2,500 bond before being released.

Gold Medalist Michael Phelps smokes it. So does Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum. Arnold Schwarzenegger smoked it on film. The Big Dawg tried it and so did Barack Obama.

Marijuana IS NOT a drug, it is a plant. It grows in nature. God created it, and who are we to second-guess the Big Guy?

    • My sister used to baby sit for either Brewer or Shipley — I can’t remember which one though. We got into all their local concerts because of that.

  1. What is this country coming to, Willie Nelson is smoking pot….ahhhhhh. Were the cops that arrested him the only ones that didn’t know Willie smokes pot? I think it was known for a long time, but his one mistake was that he went on Larry King and said it on LIVE TV.

  2. Okay, that’s twice in one week that I agreed with Booman.

I wish he would stop it, it’s creeping me out.

    • I’ve agreed more times with Sarah Palin than I’ve agreed with the koolaid drinkers. It’s scary.

  3. Texas police, doing its best to keep Texans safe from hippies, like Willie Nelson (snark).

  4. Would someone please yell at me when I forget to update the twitter list?

    (hangs head)

  5. I don’t smoke or otherwise use marijuana, nor would I do so if it were legal. I don’t use tobacco or ethanol, and they are legal for someone my age (47).

However, I consider the prohibition of marijuana to be a waste of my tax money, and just like the prohibition of ethanol, it has done more harm than good.

I say legalize it, subject it to the same sorts of restrictions that apply to tobacco and ethanol, AND TAX IT! THINK OF THE REVENUE! CHA-CHING!

    • Legalizing all illegal drugs is what makes sense. Take away the profits from criminals, and other upstanding citizens, such as police, judges, U.S. border patrols, U.S. foreign diplomats, U.S. armed services… The list is endless of all who profit from illegal drugs. It’s a big club.

  6. Willie Nelson has been a guest star on numerous TV shows, and in every show I’ve seen there has been at least one joke about WIllie and his well known pot habit. He’s been in the news many times over the years for minor marijuana busts. Guess there is the occasional cop that feels like they have to remind Willie what the law is… though it never seems like more than a minor nuisance to Willie… LOL…

  7. I thought Willie cut his hair not that long ago, or are the photos old?

This particular war is not on drugs. Not sure what it’s really on, but it is not drugs. MJ is safer than most of the substances we ingest under the name of food.

    • Isn’t he 77 years old…………if the bus driver was loaded on weed/alcohol, I could understand, but not
because Willie was sitting around playing the guitar and smoking weed.

Like Dario said, it’s big business, put them in jail, send them thru the court system, the law is the law regardless if it’s not a good law. It’s a money maker.

They should be focusing on the tunnels that are bringing tons of meth into our country.

  8. Marijuana is indeed a drug that is plant-derived. As are alcohol, morphine, tobacco and numerous other substances, all of which can affect cognitive and physical functioning. (Almost all medical studies on effects of marijuana are done in Europe, for obvious reasons.)

Marijuana isn’t the hideous drug of Reefer Madness, but I don’t want people tokin’ and driving any more than I want them drinkin’ and driving.

Interestingly, Colorado is trying to figure out if it should screen marijuana sold in “medical” dispensaries for pesticides and additives.

Patients now have no way to verify pot-shop claims that certain products are organic or how potent a strain might be.

  9. drug busts come in different packages… from the very young to the very old…

  10. interesting how the very young and even the very old get hooked on pot…

  11. I guess women don’t smoke pot?
