The big question the women on The View had for President Obama today? they all wanted to know if he would be going to Chelsea Clinton’s wedding.
Obama started out by joking, “You don’t want two presidents at one wedding! All the secret service, guests going through (metal detectors), all the gifts being torn apart …”
Then host Barbara Walters asked directly if he was even invited to the nuptials, which are being held in upstate New York this weekend. The president said no.
“I was not invited to the wedding,” he said. “because I think Hillary and Bill, properly, want to keep this thing for Chelsea and her soon-to-be husband.”
Well….I suppose that *could* be the reason.
Clinton, 30, will wed investment banker Marc Mezvinsky on Saturday in Rhinebeck, New York, at Astor Courts, a secluded estate along the Hudson River built as a Beaux Arts style playground for John Jacob Astor IV more than a century ago. The estate features the sort of commanding view that once inspired Hudson River School painters, as well as 50 acres of buffer space to shield the party from prying eyes. [....]
The Hudson Valley News reports that other people that might attend the wedding are Barbara Streisand, Steven Spielberg, Ted Turner, former Clinton adviser Harold Ickes and former DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe.
Former Vice President Al Gore will not be attending, according to the New York Daily News.
This is an open thread.

Obama thinks he wasn’t invited because he might upstage the Clintons. I’d say the Clintons are already doing a pretty good job of upstaging him.
Some one was saying that his appearance on the View was a way to woo back white women voters who he is losing in droves.
It would be kind of interesting to see what Harold Ickes would have to say to Obama if they were both in the same room.
President Barack Obama has no invitation to edding of former first daughter Chelsea Clinton.

It’s amazing how stupid they think people are. Ooh, maybe he should do s cooking show! If he makes rice krispie treats, I’ll swoon!
That ship has sailed. He did lots of cable food shows, except one whom they perceived as not friendly. Drunk with power they were heard saying “Let’s ruin her like we did Fox”
Yeah, Paula Deen. She was actually completely friendly to them and had Michelle on during the campaign, but she’s female, older, Southern, and doesn’t cook bean sprouts, so they took the opportunity to repay her kindness by dissing her, as red meat to their base. Obots were gleefully passing around a video of her getting hit in the face with a ham, because what’s not funny about a nice older lady getting hurt? These people suck at life.
I like Paula Deen
I remember that rude, calculated, snub of Paula, and you’re right, they do suck at life.
How anyone could see him as a great uniter, or as anything other than the insecure elitist that he is, is beyond me.
Was Rendell sent out to shoot up a flare? Let’s hope so.
Bam’s coalition is imploding: Women, white men, Jews, even Hispanics are abandoning President Obama
While liberals are still sticking with their guy, they remain unhappy about the war in Afghanistan, Obama’s failure to close Guantanamo, a public option for health care and other progressive priorities. In fact, Gov. Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania even suggested on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Obama’s current standing might trigger a primary challenge in 2012. That statement would have seemed like lunacy a year ago.
http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2010/07/29/2010-07-29_bams_coalition_is_imploding_women_white_men_jews_even_hispanics_are_abandoning_p.html#ixzz0v4jzKXtp
God, I hope so.
Or maybe they just don’t like him much from a personal standpoint. And anyway, where do you sit mama’s work colleagues at the reception? I’d put him at some distance from the head table, sort of where the third cousins from the Ozarks sit. Somehow, I don’t think he’d like that.
He’s not invited because I doubt Chelsea likes him. Who would after what he did to her mother in 2008? The Clintons and the Obamas have nothing more than a working relationship. I doubt they’d ever go on vacation together or do anything together outside of government related events.
That’s exactly what I thought. I doubt she’s even met him for that matter. After all those nasty things he did during the primary to her mother, I wouldn’t want him near me.
BTW, is the timing for Michelle’s Spain trip during the wedding?
Did you notice Al Gore isn’t invited either?
Yeah, Chelsea is very proud and protective of her parents. It’s said that Oprah is invited. I am surprised if that’s true. Hillary has said that this is Chelsea’s day, and in order to be invited, a guest has to know Chelsea or the groom personally. In that case, do Spielberg and Oprah know her personally, or the rumors are speculations?
Betcha Martha is.
No, I don’t think so. Martha came out for Obama. When asked why by Fox (Fox was saying-at that time-that he wasn’t ‘pro business’…what a laugh, right?) Anyway, she gave some vague mutterings about he was the only logical choice. She lost me with that.
It would be interesting to know the date of that. When I looked during the primary she had sent the full boat of contributions to HRC. She supported Bill, had him to lunch. I thought she simply stayed Dem, as HRC asked supporters.
Martha was strong Hillary supporter.
Martha who?
Stewart?
Martha Stewart was a Hillary supporter. She only went for Obama after it was down to McCain and O.
Yup. Martha Stewart.
Who cares?
This will be Chelsea’s day!
Of course. I just think it’s funny that that is what the women wanted to ask him. I’ll bet he was wishing he had a cigarette when they did.
With all that is going on in the world, with 2 wars, the Gulf disaster, his polls numbers dropping like lead weights, I can not fathom why he would go on a fluffy daytime TV show. Does he really think everyone still loves him? Does he think it makes him look groovy and “now”?
Absolutely freakin’ unbelievable. Meanwhile the SOS is dealing with testy world leaders in places like Pakistan …
Imagine how Journolist Nation would ridicule H or Palin or President Elizabeth Warren for going on The View?
Yup.
Exactly. Why is it ok for him to act like a fame junkie? He’s the POTUS for goodness sakes.
I realise I am just ranting but his lack of gravitas is astounding to me.
Narcissism must be the reason because his constant need to soak up adulation is simply not rational.
this isn’t even about his needing to be adored, his poll numbers have been sagging and the HCR gave him no bounce. he’s trying to go back to square one and shore up the women’s vote with really cheap gestures. Like Bawa and the rest swooning over him won’t seem like a huge repeat and people will fall for the same trick again.
oh please…keep up your petty vindictive judgements. you are worse than those you condemn on The View – and you wonder why some called you all bitter during the primaries?
if you think this is a cheap gesture why are you even bothering to comment on it? just cannot leave him alone can you?
“Some” called us bitter? No, that would be Obama himself. But if it helps you to refer to him as “some” okay.
There, you did it again! You just can’t leave him alone, can you? The President is entitled to privacy and anonymity, especially on the public airwaves, not to mention uncritical devotion! Just stop! Paying attention to the world around you is a major crime in Obotland! STOP!
Gosh and what on earth was I thinking pointing out that Obama– and not just Sarah Palin– is doing anything cheap and cynical when it comes to wooing the women’s vote. One knows it is only proper to be vocal when booing a woman for using women! Men using women is nature’s way.
You are just irredeemable, but I remember reading something where Katha Pollitt talked about hosting girls who travelled to NY for second trimester abortions, where she admitted that when these women were coming, she picked up People Magazine, not on her reading list. So clearly, when Sarah the Harpy manipulates these simpletons, she is evil, but Obama’s manipulations are not only clever and admirable, they’re kind of unavoidable and necessary. With all this low hanging fruit, why not pick it and steer it to enlightenment in spite of itself?
Without the realpolitick of philosopher king Obama, we wimminz would be so lost. Why we might even be out fighting for our rights or something. He is surely saving us from ourselves.
He is so brilliant, without his amazing guidance we would never have realized what a friend we have in Stupak, that 11th dimensional chess is a game for boys, how much more important Justice Kennedy is than any other Justice and this time we mean it, or how to remove lipstick stains from collars. You can’t get an education Like this from pursuing your Mrs. degree.
His way, yes his way, make all our dreams come true…there is nothing we will protest… there is no affront to women’s rights too unbearable…his way, yes his way, sweetie knows her place now…
Don’t spoli the surprise, we’re unveiling the Women’s Choir at the Convention.
oh that wasn’t a song, that was my penance to Dear leader for not letting him finish his waffle.
Yeah, right. Americans are not supposed to talk about the POTUS.
We’re just supposed to leave him alone and not pay attention to the dumb sh!t he does when he should be running the freakin’ country. Holy cr@p but you obots are positively hopeless.
Okay, then, let’s change the discussion to something of urgent national importance: Sarah Palin’s womb!
You guys are so mean to the poor widdo Obot crybabies. Poor widdo things might get their feewings hurt!
Squeez-
ok – this is way to funny and on target – I stole this for my FB status !!
LOL, yes because of course ALL white women are just hooked on those daytime teevee shows. I am sure that is exactly how he and the frat boy cabal think.
I do not know anyone who watches much teevee anymore and who has time during the day to do that? Maybe all those unemployed people will enjoy his pandering on The View? I used to have the news on all day if I was home at that time but, not anymore. In fact I don’t even have cable any longer. I just love the way we are all put in little boxes with labels on them by this administration. This man is so out of touch with modern women it’s not even funny.
Someone must be watching the view. Just not anyone I’d take seriously.
Someone whose mother taught her to bat her eyelashes when powerful men speak.
Ugh
Alice– I was having the same thoughts as you. I wouldn’t be caught dead watching The View or voting for Barack Obama.
I hate the View. The hosts are an embarrassment to women everywhere.
If I was home, I used to have it on sometimes washing the dogs or something when Walters, Jones, Ling and Vieira were there. It was lite, lite, but you had a sense of actual journalistic spark. Then, Behar was a counterpoint. When Vieira left, the show turned into goo. It was silliness, but far better than the 700 Club, cartoons, or the soaps. it was the only thing as acceptable background noise at 10:00 AM. Was that their first or second year?
While I agree with your “viewpoints” I want to reiterate the value of going to to a woman’s daytime show that is on free air TV. If half the population is without cable or dish, this is his way to reach that population and appear human. It’s really not any different than the candidates on Saturday Night Live, or Michelle on Sesame Street, or a horn playing Clinton on Letterman.
If the choices are sad, it partly because that is the pap available and fed to us.
yes but the difference is the last time he went on the View, there were no actions to judge him by, just the pap. If he thinks this is enough to make women forget about the economy,. jobs, oil kill, war, healthcare boondoggle to the insurance cos, immigration, reproductive rights being trampled on, lgbt rights being made a mockery of, etc. … well good luck to him with that.
Agreed. But you know us wimminz. We are just bound to swoon over his tie.
Also, I’m not sure they really think going on Letterman or SNL will pick up votes so much as reenforce his voters in a sense of security about how cool they are. But I think they honestly do believe we’ll take 10 minutes to put down the furniture polish to swoon over Michelle’s husband. You know how simple we are. We don’t understand how government works or know what skepticism is, or how to spell it, but–he’s dreamy!
Well, maybe next time he can decide to suck up to the “little people” he has so offended in the past and by his logic appear on Jerry Springer to get the message across. *shrug* I’m at a loss as to why he feels “The View” is so appropriate.
It’s shocking really. I agree with squeezindiva, this is not the time to be golfing, going on vacations and having sit down chats on shows such as this.
Maybe he was jealous of Chelsea and the attention she is getting this week. Narcissists have to have ALL the attention no matter what.
If he went on Jerry Springer, I’d watch it.
At my house, we’re having a little fantasy that he’s going to crash the wedding.
He’s more likely to do something to upstage it, like hold a press conference at the same time.
I think its the View because Obama has been treated badly and his feelings are hurt, so he needs to go on a show that will fall all over him and make him feel he’s the messiah again.
Last time he was on Teh View the hosts ended the interview with an invitation for him to return. His condescending response was that he would prefer they extended that invitation to Michelle instead. They are so stupid, they didn’t even pick up on the diss.
Great piece Bostonboomer. BTW, Riverdaughter above said:
Actually Riverdaughter, if America had real ‘Truth in Labeling’ laws with actual teeth, here’s how it would go down:
Current Name Truthful Name
BP…………Buttf**king Pillagers
Obama…………Bush III
Iraq/Afganistan…………Viet/Nam
(I’m sure folks here can think of other entries to this list.)
That last one is pretty sexist. I’m going to delete now and please don’t do it again.
Boston: oops, my apologies. I won’t repost but I meant it as a reflection on my views of their mindless yakking, not their gender. In fairness, the same term could be used about The McLaughlin Group most weeks.
We may not have to wait on T.Pyxidis for extinction after all. A Biggie Coming?
sounds like that would make for something on another episode of the History Channel’s The Universe.
Isn’t that starting again like literally tomorrow?
Damn, I had a BBQ planned for that day.
I wonder if the human race will even last that long?
Speaking of ‘T.Pyxidis’, how is SOD? Anyone hear from her lately…
she’s dealing with something difficult and will be back when she can…
she was very generous and helped me plan my recent yellowstone trip.
I know she appreciates being loved and missed. keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
Tell her we’re all thinking of her and wishing her well!
Another name added to Journolist:
From Digby. So if Digby was a member, wouldn’t it make sense that Arianna and head cheeto were too?
Her defence is: the right was doing it first!!
I love to know what they discussed during the primary. I don’t know if Tucker Carlson will expose that.
I called Digby being on there.
So that’s why she didn’t have the guts to defend Hillary.
She was too busy sucking up to the Boys in the Band. Ugh.
So did anyone watch it? How did we do on guessing the questions asked?
it airs tomorrow
Thanks, Wonk, I got ahead of myself.
Reading some comments at Corrente, I’m reminded that one area where I most disagree with many anti-Obamacratic liberals (including I think, some here) is that imo they tend to downplay the importance of Obama himself.
In doing so they ignore (again imo) that it is Obama’s historically historic skin color that both got him his current job and that keeps many Democrats who would otherwise be standing up to him silent, starting with, but hardly confined to, the CBC. Too many liberals are just unwilling to tell black America that after waiting for over 200 years to see a black man in the White House, they got a sellout instead.
A lot of the “historic” meme is shorthand for that, though. And, I think what the Obama WH did to Sherrod speaks for itself. I’m not sure liberals have to tell anyone what a sellout they got at this point.
A white man with Obama’s record (or a woman of any color) would not have been pushed to the front the way he was. While they were calling Geraldine F a racist for saying Obama benefited from being biracial, they were cynically using his race as part of their campaign strategy.
Harry Reid revealed his true thoughts here:
The question is who else in the Democratic leadership agreed with Reid?
A truly galling aspect of the Ferraro smear was that she was repeating, almost verbatim, a statement of his that was posted on his senate website. After the phony brouhaha started, they scrubbed his site, but I went there and saw it before they cleaned up. He and his crew are calculating creeps who cared not about the body count from their lying and r@ce-baiting.
Obama “jokes” he went on the View because he wanted to be on a show Michelle watches…
Bawa asked Obama what has been the rose and the thorn in the last month…

Sneak Peek Clips of Obama’s interview at Cinema Blend
http://www.cinemablend.com/television/Sneak-Peek-At-Barack-Obama-On-The-View-26045.html
OMG..looking at the cover shot for this video, could he look any more prissy?
I was thinking that too…
Me too, he’s like a duck out of water wherever he goes.
This is worse than a 1950′s sitcom. If the Obama White House wants to know what women voters want, they ask June Cleaver, who only ever uses Clorox for that special shine. Jeebus.
I know, but apparently this really is the 1950s and if we feel disrespected, we should not comment at all.. Only when it is *SARAH PALIN* should we comment on what a cheap cynical ploy it is! Otherwise all cheap gestures by Obama should be met with dignified and ladylike silence.
TWG–typing while girling. You should be seen and not heard. Isn’t there something you could be vacuuming?
Yeah, I suppose I could vacuum up all the confetti from celebrating what an Obama feminist looks like.
You two are on a roll today! lol!
Ugh. Did anyone else have a visceral reaction to that exchange? Baba reinforces gender stereotypes about women who get together and talk too much. Obama condescends to go on a show that Michelle watches. So, Michelle, hospital lawyer turned stay-at-home mom, who has 2 kids of an age who dint need her to stay at home anymore, spends get time gardening and watching The View. She has become the quintessential spoiled, vapid soccer mom that I see running around in left turn view blocking huge, honkin’ Ford Expedition SUV’s.
This is what we should come to expect from Mr. Feminist duperhero and his Revolutionary Road wife. Shoot me now. They have taken us back to the 60′s.
Damn iPhone.
I think the typo is inadvertently more accurate than what you meant to type. “Duper” describes him, not “super.” And he’s a “hero” to those who wanted him in to dupe so many into voting for him.
Yes, “duper” is very appropriate!
“Pooper scooper” works too.
I doubt very seriously that Michelle watches The View.
LOL! That was my first thought too.
That’s not the point. It’s the image they want to project. Working women are not really people that count.
Pretty sure she doesn’t. Also pretty sure that everything O says happens in his family moments didn’t really happen. Does he strike you as a family man? He says such stupid things about what they have said or done….visualize Michelle asking for the “clicker” and him being anywhere near daytime TV to witness her saying it! She doesn’t strike me as a couch potato.
I’m stunned that the Obamas are not invited. It has the feel of a message. For weddings and funerals, likes and dislikes are sometimes put aside, but Chelsea, chose not to. I’m now curious if Pelosi, 2×4 Schumer and Reid were invited.
It’s not really that suprising. The clintons are not royalty. This is not a State event. There’s no reason to invite heads of state. Hillary and Obama have a working relationship. Chelsea shouldn’t feel obligated to invite her mom’s boss. And he’s probably right about the extra security, although, you would think the big dawg’s security measures would be rigorous enough. But can you imagine what a media firestorm there would be if the Anerican taxpayer was asked to foot the bill for helicoptering Obama and Michelke to a swanky private wedding? Finally, it *would* take some of the focus away from Chesea and Mark and they have a right to expect to be the center of attention.
Why would any of them be invited? It’s Chelsea’s decision. She probably doesn’t even know Obama, and he never said one word when MSNBC called her prostitute and attacked her mother.
Imagine if Obama did attend.
He’d be all pissy because he wasn’t the center of attention, even though the psychophant media would talk about him more than Chelsea.
It’s HER day. Even the groom won’t get as much attention as she will.
Brides BUY dresses but grooms RENT tuxes.
It’s Chelsea’s decision and Chelsea’s day ….Indeed. If I was her , I would want to be the only bride in the room! You know Barry. If he isn’t the sole focus of attention, there’s trouble…
Would you invite him? My wedding would never accommodate the kind of entourage he hauls around with him. The city would probably make the Clintons pay for the added security of a POTUS visit.
Besides, they heard about his inability to give a personal or well-chosen gift.
Reading this, just now, lifted my spirits.
Good for Chelsea, or Chelsea and Hillary and Bill, or whichever of them made this decision. I like to think it was all three in total agreement: No Obama.
Barack Obama has only two reasons for doing things: to obtain more corporate money and/or to make his poll numbers go up. So he must have done The View to make his poll numbers go up. Pretty weird, any way you slice it.
Not to mention, that if he makes a “presidential” appearance on The View the same day/weekend he’s in NY to attend DNC fundraisers, the TAXPAYERS pay for the trip, and not the DNC.
Today’s tabloids are fun
http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2010/07/29/tabloids-the-view-ladies-the-polls-immigration-100-days-of-oil-kill/
It pisses me off that the lamestream media is making a HUGE deal about the cost of Chelsea’s wedding (paid for by her parents) and when it comes to the vast amount of money the Obama’s blow on parties and vacations (paid for by us) we here….you guessed it…..crickets. I’m sure they’ve blown far more money than this in the last couple of months with the $500 k pizza parties and the every wednesday cocktail hours.
Of course the Precious is not invited. It is CHELSEA’s day. I wouldn’t want that asshat at my wedding either. He’d make it all about him.
Amen. And after all the sh*t Michelle said about the Clintons during the primaries, can you imagine trying to be polite or gracious if she came?
It’s Chelsea’s day. She picks the attendees, period.
Call me perplexed, but why would anyone think that the mother’s boss should be invited to the wedding, unless the boss was a close personal friend? When I got married, back when the parents controlled the guest list, there was no thought of inviting either of my parent’s direct supervisor – the wedding was for family and friends. Looks as if the long knives are being brought out again for the Clinton’s.
No one from my office was invited to either of my kids’ weddings. They drew up the guest list, not me.
I just hope Obama never goes on Rachel Ray.
That would really diminish the grandeur of her show.
You mean like Bill was?
Wasn’t Obama on Tyra’s show during the Campaign?
I still miss Donahue.
I miss Art Linkletter.
I miss Capt. Kangaroo.
Lol, you were probably one of his funny kids, Myig.
I lived down the street from his family in Whittier. His, was the haunted house at Halloween. He had kids, but I don’t remember playing with them, like everyone else on the block.
And Clarabell!
I miss Howdy Doody and Pinky Lee. And the Mickey Mouse Club.
Remember the Hardy Boys mystery series on the Mickey Mouse Club with that cool chest of Spanish doubloons in the opening sequence?
I miss Billy Mays.
Yes, I loved the mystery movie segments on the Mickey Mouse Club! Loved the Hardy Boys.
I miss Sandra Bullock.
Where did Sandra Bullock go?
I mean I would like the opportunity to know Ms. Bullock well enough to miss her…..its a gay thang.
I miss PeeWee.
I grew up on stuff like “Out of this World” and “Small Wonder”… I miss it I guess, but not very much Lol
Hey, I was one of those kids on Romper Room!
Republican message – “We may be nuts but we get shit done.”
LOL!
zing
This man stays in the blame shift/shit mode 24/7….
Oh, if I went to the wedding, they’d have to tear open all the gifts……oh, I came on the view, so blame it on Michelle. Oh, I inherited all this shit, blame it on Bush.
He has no concept that in order to get respect, you give respect.
Anyway, maybe Chelsea thinks, if she inivted him, next
he’d be expecting, Xmas invite.
Is it just me, or does Obama seem much smaller than the women of the View? It looks like he’s the good little boy waiting for pats on the head by his mother’s friends.
just saying — This photo looks so odd! And why is he holding his left hand so tightly? I’ve noticed he’s been doing more of that lately.
He has his legs crossed the opposite way from the women. That’s a no no in body language. You’re supposed to reflect the people you are communicating with.
I think he’s holding his left hand because he wants to smoke.
Usually he puts his hands in his pockets, or at least , one hand…..There’s some psychology to that, too.
I wonder if there are teleprompters off camera that we just don’t see…that have his answers already typed up for him.
Without the teleprompters, clearly not the smartest in any group. Even on “The View”…
A nod to Walters that this is her woman’s show for women and that Michelle watches it, indicating that Walter’s has been successful in reaching her target audience, must be bittersweet for Walters, since I think she tried to make it more than a gossip show in the beginning. She lost in the rating game, which in Hollywood is not usually actually about ratings.
At the same time, Obama deftly turns the action of watching the View into that of the “other”, something he professes not to be: whiner, enabler, Annie Oakley, weepy, etc. – or even MIchelle.
Ok, I watched it.
My overall impression is that he was successful in transmitting his message.
If he wanted to appear human, he succeeded. He was relaxed and managed to make that big smile of his less of a tooth bearing threat. Squinted eyes made it look real. He engaged naturally, with appropriate reserve and the slightest hint of ann to Elisebeth.
I agree with you BB about the crossed legs, but he deflected that a little with the odd comment about the couch being made for “little people”. By itself that wouldn’t mean anything I suppose, except that it is consistent with his pattern.
…annoyance to Elisebeth.
He went through his bullet points, and the questions were well staged to allow him the answers he wanted to present.
I think his main beef he was trying to interject was FOX is baad, baaaad, baaaaad, and I want to reach you the public in this nice open format available to everyone, to let you know that. Or more clinically “don’t believe everything you see and hear”. That plays well to those of us who already know it.
As to the Clinton wedding; I wonder if the probing was really about the recent questions to the WH regarding Clinton as a potential 2012 candidate? Is it bad in Obamaland and how bad is it?
Lastly, he reassured. He thinks that is what we want.
he told us to believe in American Workers, which we do, and stressed that it could have been much worse but he saved us from a depression. So sorry, peeps without a job, but peeps still with a job, give me a high five.
I don’t think this will be very reassuring to people who are having a tough time right now: “What has been gratifying is the fact that the economy now is starting to stabilize and grow again, and what’s been satisfying is seeing how resilient the American people are.”
I’m not stating whether he was successful in his reassurances, just that he did it. Maybe it’s a jaundiced view and he might have done it anywhere, but my bullsh*t alert always activates when it’s done on a woman’s show.
I found myself at that moment really hoping for some Trumanesque or Churchillian statement about it being darkest before the dawn. I might have almost liked him then. And then that thought was really scary. That’s why I think he will reach some people.
he’ll reach people he basically already had in his pocket, though
Yeah, this was a holding action, not a recruitment.
I guess what I’m thinking is… couldn’t those votes have been shored up much more just by his machine blasting the name “Palin” though ?.
The people he needs to reach don’t take their cues from Joy Behar.
Have to think about that, but my first impression is no. I think he believes he might hold a PUMA or New Agenda type still willing to vote Dem over the alternative, but not willing listen to more cr*p about Palin.
If that is the case it might signal a change in tactic for him.
RD said the other day that this election could have profound consequences. Maybe he is trying to tap into that.
Hmm. See, I doubt that the WH really sees either PUMA or the New Agenda types as target voters. Until enough of the left threatens to defect, then they are not afraid of people defecting. They’re just afraid of people not turning out. I think they are working from the baseline that the PUMA/New Agenda voters are already expendable. They are going after the “soccer mom” “security mom” “walmart mom” demo–women who have been and continue to be easily rounded up by pointing to how unprepared Palin is (when you put Palin up against Obama, Obama’s numbers shoot up). They voted for him even if they may have been for Hillary. Those are the women Obama is going after. I don’t think he would waste time going after voters he wasn’t able to manipulate the first time around. What this might indicate though is that they feel Palin’s Mama Grizzly razzle dazzle is edging into their own razzle dazzle territory with suburban women who don’t really have much an ideology? I don’t know, just guessing. Obviously he’s desperate to shore up the women’s vote. Again, I really think the voters they need to reach aren’t the ones taking their cues from Joy Behar. But when governing fails, I guess razzle dazzle is all that’s left.
Can’t make a silk purse out of sow’s ear…
found myself at that moment really hoping for some Trumanesque or Churchillian statement about it being darkest before the dawn
Can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
Yep.
Instead we got an Obotian statement of “If we get our mojo back…”
By the way, the word “satisfying” struck me as odd too. That would seem to indicate some personal hand in achieving another person’s resilience. Or does he just mean that he has pleasure because of their resilience?
just really odd, yep. Resilient Americans don’t need his satisfaction, they need him to tell them how he plans on helping make sure they don’t fall through the damn cracks or how he plans on helping them out of them if they’ve already fallen through. For all their resilience, that’s the kind of gratitude he could have shown. But, no, instead they got to hear some trite crap about rose and thorn and how he’s so gratified to sit there and play press secretary for the American empire.
He’s eaten us up, munch, munch, munch. Satisfying!
Lol.
It’s not really so funny, though.
soylent-hope is people.
Guffaw!
That is scary depressing. And such a good metaphor!
“Lastly, he reassured. He thinks that is what we want.
