If she was ugly, no one would vote for her

You have to see it to believe it. Some moron has meticulously photoshopped pictures of Sarah Palin to make her look plain. (S)He (you know it’s a guy) has removed her glasses, jewelry and make-up and restyled her hair. From Ann Althouse:

This is an effort at defeminizing Sarah — like drawing a mustache on her. In fact, there’s a good chance that Sarah Palin would look more beautiful with subtler makeup, no glasses, and a well-designed, more professional hairstyle.

Sigh.

  1. I love the smell of desperation in the morning. It appears she frightens them beyond the capacity for rational thought. (h/t/ ghostbusters).

  2. Here’s one for dkat:

“Behind each great historical phenomenon,” Niall Ferguson has written, “lies a financial secret.” So it is with Europe’s latest identity crisis. Greece’s euro troubles have a lot to do with its fiscal irresponsibility and the instability at the heart of European Monetary Union—a group of countries that sometimes behave like “the United States of Europe” and at other times revert to nationalistic petulance (witness German resistance to a Greek rescue). But the Greek panic—and fears of a euro collapse and another financial contagion—also have a great deal to do with secret derivatives deals orchestrated by big American banks. As a result, the euro crisis is casting, yet again, a harsh light on efforts by Wall Street lobbyists to gut proposed rules requiring transparency in trading.

    • Oops, right quote, wrong URL. Here’s the right one:

    • Yves at naked capitalism has several excellent articles about Greece and Goldman Sachs actually HIDING their true debt before they were allowed into the EU. It’s no wonder that Germany refuses to support the bailout unless Greece imposes huge spending cuts…..they feel Greece deceived them from the git-go, with our own Goldman Sachs helping them do it.

The good news, according to Simon Johnson, is that the EU may investigate how GS manipulated those facts……it’s the only way Americans will ever find out, if at all.

  3. I just saw that on memeorandum. Did the failbot actually think those pictures make her look bad?

  4. So if the Presidency is now a round of Hot or Not, that makes Carrie Prejean President, right? I’m confused.

    • Instead of primaries and caucuses we’ll have phone-balloting.

Voters will pay $.99 per call, with the money used to pay off the national debt.

      • But we’ll have to lower the age limit, and we’re kind of behind the 8 ball with our silly opposition to telecom immunity! Ha ha! We so didn’t mean that!

      • That’s actually the most productive proposal I’ve heard in over a year.

  5. Look at what else the photoshopper has done… saw this link in the Althouse comment section…

  6. Palin’s looks are a part of the appeal which her followers talk about frequently.

So, this graphic artist is talking about her looks, and looking beneath the facade. It’s a response to YOUR talk in supporting her.

There is zero wrong with that. Absolutely nothing. It is engaging her supporters in their own dialog.

When you’re a politician who bills herself as an attack dog and rips other people to pieces it’s gross duplicity to then spin around and say “I and my trademark looks are beyond criticism!”

But wait, AlphaLiberal isn’t done! I will return with more of his genius!

  7. What an idiot. Really.

  8. IMO, these are the greatest comments in online history. Again from AlphaLiberal at Althouse:

Besides, this is what she would look like if she actually was an ordinary person without makeup artists and image consultants.

Or do regular folks down on Main Street, Wasilla, have image consultants?

    • Shorter: “don’t forget your burqa ladies, it’s to cover up your fa-cade.”

      • And also, he seems to think that only wealthy professional women need to wear makeup and special work clothes to present professionally. Instead of, say, zillions of women who have minimum wage or not much better jobs but deal with the public and are still expected by their employers to buy clothes and makeup they can’t afford easily in order to look a certain way and would be fired if they didn’t. Welcome to the real world, jackass.

        • ;) my comment nested in the wrong place, should have gone under the first fa-cade quote from alphabet soup, not the image consultant one.

        • So I guess now we’re supposed to be effortlessly gorgeous without makeup lest we be “unmasked” as posers and fakers. That’s attainable. I hate everybody this morning.

        • That’s why the male Obots don’t get that women deserve equal pay! They don’t understand how much extra we need to pay for basic necessities aside from the cosmetics and other upkeep “required” of women in the workforce.

          MORON!

  9. And one more:

It is fair game to look beneath her facade….She is a poser, a faker pretending to be one of the normal folk. She is not. She is rich. lifting her facade helps reveal that.

    • I learn about the psychology of misogyny from these idiots. Pretty sure Alpha climaxes here toward the end of comments.

It matters. After all, there are many women who have criticisms of makeup in general (see “Beauty myth”). Makeup is also a mask, especially for Sarah Palin.

And, dear foolish, poorly informed and always presumptuously arrogant Ann Althouse; you don’t know what you’re talking about as you hurl your insults.

      • Priceless reply:

“I am against shams, grifters and tricksters pretending to be something they are not and deceiving people all in the cause of being destructive to our nation’s prospects.”

Oh, that’s beautiful from a supporter of Obama/Biden.

        • Despite the usual mix of painfully hypocritical sexist shots at liberal women combined with cluelessness from the conservatives, they were pretty good arguing with him. Frankly, the guy kind of reminded me of Armando, he went around in circles using lots of words but making no sense and somehow seemed to naturally assume he was winning the argument, somehow.

  10. Sarah looks just fine to me, with or without cosmetic enhancements. It’s not about looks though. Yeah, let’s stick with the superficial stuff and ignore the more important things. That’s the ticket! Seems to be a popular stance these days.

  11. More Amy Bishop history:

In March, 2002, Bishop walked into an International House of Pancakes in Peabody with her family, asked for a booster seat for one of her children, and learned the last seat had gone to another mother.

Bishop, according to a police report, strode over to the other woman, demanded the seat and launched into a profanity-laced rant.

When the woman would not give the seat up, Bishop punched her in the head, all the while yelling “I am Dr. Amy Bishop.”

  12. C’mon myiq. She’s a religious whacko, anti-choice, stupid bimbo, bad mother. She DESERVES this type of treatment. You Palinsherocheerleader!! Shake those pom poms.

    • That reminds me, the whinging sound in the spam filter finally stopped.

      Time to go flush.

      • It really bothers me how we keep polluting the water system with troll bits. Is there a more environmentally friendly way to dispose of those “things?” Maybe they’ve perfected those Star Trek vaporizors. Poof!

    • You forgot the fact that she’s an exploiter of children, not just a bad mother.

  13. Kaine says Coakley didn’t give a proper assessment of her campaign:

When a candidate says, “Hey, look, this race is going fine. We’re in great shape,” we need to check under the hood and we need to make our own assessment of in fact is that true. We were able to generate intense activity from volunteers at the DNC, volunteers with state parties in support of this race, once we realized there was a difficulty in this race. But I think candidly from our side, we should have started earlier.

  14. I went and looked at the photo shopped pictures and guess what, Sarah is still beautiful. Her eyes become the focus and you can see truth, beauty and honesty in them.

Why you had to post those two ugly pictures when there are so many good ones to choose from I don’t know. And that doesn’t mean I don’t get the connection, I just lived through the Huff Po days when an opportunity to post a ugly picture of Hillary was never missed.

    • Well, either I didn’t want anyone to think I was a Palinsherocheerleader or I was comparing the misogynist treatment that two leading female politicians have received.

      Take yer pick.

  15. I’m torn here. Being the sort that’s easily amused, I find some sick humor in an artist taking the pains to retouch photos of Sarah Palin to make her look worse than she normally looks since vast majority of Photoshop retouching is to make average people look more attractive.

Usually images of women, “supermodels” even, are retouched to make them look flawless. Now, the images I’m referring to are professionally shot with the right make up, the right clothes (often torn in the back and pinned together to better fit the subject), the right lighting, etc. Even then, the final images are retouched to a degree of perfection that simply doesn’t exist.

If anything this is BIG LIE that an “activist” artist should be bringing to our attention. But oh no, Harnrahan has to go all high school on the pretty girl. What a complete moron. Let’s just buy wholesale the notion that it’s only okay for a woman to be pretty when she’s on the cover of a men’s magazine. But any crazy #@$! that thinks she’s gonna buck the system and run for president? Retouch her image to make her look as bad as possible. This is the way that the patriarchy manipulates women to keep other women in their place (the sex class) and disabuse any uppity women of the notion that they can run for the highest office in the country. Way to play the misogynist pawn, Kellyanne.

    • What gets me is … it’s not like she’s some botoxed freak. Yes, I’m thinking of you Nancy Pelosi !!!!!!

  16. Would 0 be prez if he weren’t telegenic and “post-racial” in appearance?
Much was made of his looks in comparison to his opponents.

    • We had Obama-girl reminding us of his great looks constantly! Lest we forget the buff photos of him, and interviews about how he keeps so fit and young looking.

      blech ;{

The ironic thing is politicians have some type of image consultant/handler on some level, especially if they enter the national arena. Obama had his gray hair dyed. The double standard here is incredible.

I think the photos make her look even more of a “Northshore Nancy” in that she appeals even more to the liberal Whole Foods nation types AND the suburban women. As a result these pics could actually increase her popularity!

  17. What do you expect from someone named “kool@$$”?
