Election Night: Live Blog

Who will win?  What message will the voters send this time?  Will they send a message at all?

New Jersey’s Gubernatorial Race, voters have a choice between Democrat Jon Corzine, Republican Chris Christie, or Independent Chris Daggett.  Anyone who has been paying attention knows who Riverdaughter is voting for.  Stay tuned…

New JerseyAnd then of course there’s the Virginia Gubernatorial race.  Too bad the Democrats weren’t smart enough to make Terry McAuliffe their candidate, because now it’s looking pretty bad for Creigh Deeds.  Even a last minute drive by campaign stop by the President didn’t seem to give him the bump he’ll need to win.  {{Sigh}} They could’a hadda  Terry McAuliffe.  Now they may have to settle for Bob McDonnell (R).  Let’s see how that one turns out.

mcdonnell deeds

The NY 23rd District Congressional Special Election has taken some sharp turns of late — but will the rightwing extremists take the prize with a Doug Hoffman win? Will Dede Scozzafava’s endorsement of Democrat Bill Owens swing the election his way, or will the voters turn the tables and vote Scozzafava in, despite a suspended campaign.  With Dede’s name still on the ballot, anything can happen.  It shouldn’t take long to get an answer for this one folks.

hoffmanowensscozzafava Hoffman                       Owens                 Scozzafava

We also have the same-sex marriage question on the ballot in Maine and another in Washington State (h/t Dakinikat).  In a ground-hog day like move, Maine will be voting on the issue of whether or not to overturn the legislative action legalizing same-sex marriage in that state.  In Washington state they will be voting to protect the domestic partnership rights of same-sex couples.

One other interesting race is the New York City mayoral race.  Bloomberg is trying for another term.  Will the voters agree?

What races are shaping up to be nail biters in your neck of the woods?

  1. Virginia’s results will be in at 7pm EST

    New Jersey at 8pm EST

    and

    New York at 9pm EST

  2. In Maine:

Question 1 on the state ballot seeks repeal of the state’s gay marriage law.

    http://www.bangordailynews.com/detail/124744.html

On Nov. 3, Maine will either make history as the first state where voters grant same-sex couples the right to marry or join the ranks of the dozens of other states where “traditional marriage” has prevailed at the polls.

With the race over Question 1 apparently too close to call, national money and attention are pouring in as voters grapple with some of society’s thorniest cultural issues from religion and sex to health care, child rearing and constitutional rights.

  3. There is also a referendum in WA state:

In the last 48 hours before the election deadline, I will be working on turning out voters to vote APPROVE on Referendum 71. Working with volunteers across the state in our HQ, satellite offices and from home calling voters to remind them. Also, with along with the local HRC steering committee, we are waving signs in targeted areas across Seattle; meeting with PFLAG moms on Capitol Hill directing people to the Post Office and reminding them that they need ample postage for their ballots.

    http://mygayseattle.com/seattle/election-eve-campaigns-in-home-stretch
    and
    http://approvereferendum71.org/

bout Referendum 71: Voting APPROVE on Ref. 71 is a vote to keep the domestic partnership law that provides legal protections for lesbian and gay couples and seniors who are in committed relationships. To be able to take unpaid leave to care for a critically ill loved one, without being fired. To be able to cover a partner in family health insurance. To make sure hard-earned pension and death benefits protect children when a parent dies. Approving Ref. 71 ensures that important protections are not taken away from committed couples, so that they are able to take care of each other, especially in times of crisis. Keep the domestic partnership law – Vote APPROVE on Ref. 71 by Nov 3.

  4. McDonnell 67%
    Deeds 33%

    1% of polls reporting

    But exit polls are inconclusive

  5. VA —
    McDonnell – 65%
    Deeds – 35%
15% of the votes are in

  6. Just a pure hunch but from seeing all the CNN stories about the exit polls and Obama not being a factor, I think the GOP is cleaning up.

    • I’m thinking so too. they have their internal polls that usually dictates the strategy, moreso than the public polls.

      • Let’s put it this way: Obama came to this state on multiple occasions to campaign for Corzine. it made no difference. Obama should be worried because he got elected in the same way that Corzine was elected- to fucking do something. And Corzine did the incremental shuffle. That does not play well here anymore. If Democrats can’t be trusted to reform the tax system, New Jersey will get a Republican who they think will slash them or at least not raise them. That’s what this vote was all about. You can’t promise reform, hope and change and then do nothing. Or play bi-partisanship house with the other side. Real people are hurting real bad. Shit or get off the pot.

        • What??? you didn’t get your bowl of gruel??

          • I suspect that some Democrats are still PO’d at the crap Corzine pulled at the convention last year too. Betcha that 5% is mostly Hillary voters.

    • And I saw a headline that said the White House is “downplaying” today’s elections. Uh. Huh.

  7. Just now tuning in…

Couldn’t take it so I took myself out for dinner. Then I went to see the MJ film.

Back home now. Cracking out the wine and chocolate….

    Is it a “referendum” yet?

    • It’s still early. VA results are trickling in. NJ closes in 10 minutes.

Riverdaughter must be pacing the floor

      • NJ is closed. Not really pacing the floors. We’ve had Republican governors before. We’ve survived it. We’re not a socially conservative state and he can’t do too much harm as long as the assembly is D.

  8. Obama not being a factor???

    Bwahahahahhhaaaaaa……

Must be worse for the Dems than we imagine.

  9. Think I’ll catch the premiere episode of V. Seems a perfect take off on the Obamapod phenomenon.

  10. MSNBC just called it for VA — McDonnell 2-1

  11. NJ — closed.

“Too close to call.” — no shit

  12. Virginy is purple allright. In the Obamanoid fairy tale….

    Bye, bye Virginia…..

    And now…. for New Joisy??

  13. CNN projects Republican Bob McDonnell will be next Virginia governor. The state trended Democratic in recent elections.

  14. I wonder if the morons who decided Deeds should be the nominee are giggling now over defeating McAuliffe.

Way to go progressive putzes. Hope you choke on 4 years of McDonell.

    • It’s all Deeds’ fault! If only he had listened to the genius of Barack Obama. But he’s just too stubborn!

      • They were all chortling like a bunch of juvenile prepubescent boys about how they defeated McAuliffe in the primary. It didn’t matter who it was long as it wasn’t that Clinton lover.

Meanwhile Deeds was running as far away from progressive policy like a universal health care policy as fast as he could. Can you say not ready for prime time?

        • I remember! God, they’re so pathetic. And don’t understand how much they repulse you know, voters? The ones who decide the election in the absense of successful fraud?

    • yeah, they showed up to defeat McAuliffe in the primaries as payback for his support of Hillary, and then stayed home for the real election.

  15. I can’t believe Deeds already lost in VA. Looks bad for Obama tonight. Have you seen his latest poll numbers?

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/november_2009/45_for_obama_49_against_if_election_were_held_right_now

  16. VA’s been getting bluer for about 10 straight years. Now after Obots block the only candidate who could win the VA gov. race, kaboom. In one fell swoop it’s getting red. Quite an accomplishment.

Next up with the new repub gov., redistricting. A big thanks to the Obots.

    • Sorry, DandyTiger. :(

      • Yea, the crappy Obots leave us adults to clean up this mess. It will be a long fight back to blue.

      • Leave it to the progressives to save the Republicans from themselves.

After Bush we should be coasting through 4 years of liberal policy but nooooooooo they had to have a post partisan in looooove with Reagan. So the liberals will get the shaft-a-gain and get the blame even though Obama is the farthest thing from a liberal evah.

        • No kidding. Republicans were on the verge, instead it’s the Democratic Party that will not survive Obama. Hope it was worth it.

  17. Decided to do full backups tonight in case the world ends tomorrow.

Have you thanked an Obot today? If not, kick one in the #*&$*s for me.

  18. That sounds like Donna B. on CNN–glad I’m listening on the radio, not watching.

  19. Virginia — now officially “RED” again.

GOP does a full sweep of Virginia.
    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/11/03/gop-sweeps-top-state-races-in-virginia-cnn-projects/

    • Never mind that, has the percentage of female legislators declined at least? Failbots can lose the battle and still win the war!

      • Well we lost out on a decent Leiutenant Gov. Sigh. I can’t access to see if Nutter pulled off a win but judging from the sea of red I’m imagining Frank didn’t win either.

  20. I need to add this — we probably won’t know the results of WA state votes on the two state wide ballot issues because due to the majority of the state votes by mail — issue 1 is the domestic partners and issue two is the the dumb ass con man Eyman’s ballot issue.

We have a lot of right wing religious cults in the state — and a fair number of liberals in the urban areas and the ministers are probably doing a get out the vote against the domestic partners measure.

  21. Any word on Maine yet?

  22. MSNBC == 3% of NJ voters in

    43% Corzine
    49% Christie

  23. police officers have been called to a least two polling places in NY 23

    http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/police-called-ny-23-polling-stations-be

it’s evidently tea partiers intimidating voters

The Glenn Beck crowd are out there yelling anti-choice crap. They will bring the same anger and hatred they brought to the town halls that they disrupted. This is going to put a lot of stress on local police forces.

    yup, it’s the abortion thing…

    • Everytime I think I can sympathize with this crowd. They go and do something stupid that makes me not want to associate with them in the same way I don’t want to associate with the “new” coalition that the Democrats have.

      • And thank you for fighting the good fight against BTD the other day. I have rarely seen such an a*shat in my life Medicaid? A success story? On any level?

My mother died in part due to Medicaid’s high quality care. I was a Medicaid kid. The idea that anyone would consider Medicaid a success story in any form, on any level is just the epitomy of a**shattery.

BTD should stop talking about poverty issues. They are HARDLY his area of expertise.

        Anyway, thank you.

        • I suspect that BTD is fortunate enough to not have experience up close and personal with Medicaid. It’s truly a mixed bag and in many states cases an abject failure. If he was going to go for success story then he should stick with Medicare which actually has had luck with bringing costs down since it is a federal program and comprises a large enough percentage of the population to be able to negotiate. Unfortunately, he’d have to dig down and realize that a state by state solution is not going to be modeled on the one federal option that has had success, instead it would indeed be closer to the horror story that many experience using Medicaid. I think he really has tied himself to the idea that what is being proposed is enough to get the foot in the door. I disagree. 2% of the population at best is going to be seen as a failure and cause of resentment for the other 98% of the population that the Democrats are willing to hold hostage to get that foot in the door.

Single Payer is our last best hope.

          • Absolutely. Offering a token “public option” in order to pass a huge regressive tax is simply inhumane. If people like BTD cared about anything except “the win” he would see that

And no, I don’t think BTD has ever known a poor person. And he is an unbearable idiot when it comes to the issues he is unable to relate to. And he hates himself for that, which is why he likes to chase people off when they point it out, instead of being a big man and admitting when his position is ridiculous.

Sorry, didn’t mean to post so much off-topic.

    • Thank you for not calling them tea-baggers. Makes me ill.

  24. MSNBC reporting — 17% of the votes are in

    41% – Corzine
    52% – Christie

  25. CNN has a 10 point edge for Christie with 18% of districts in.

    • And Secretary Clinton is working her tush off.

    • “we’re busy, Michelle is busy, the kids have homework, and, well, POTUS can’t quite figure out how to change the channel on his own. We leave it on ESPN to avoid the tantrums that lead to the random invasions, it’s easier that way.”

    • Does this guy ever work? He plays b-ball and golf, watches it, has parties, takes trips—geez. Meanwhile, HRC is in Africa, Pakistan and the Middle East, working from dawn to dusk. What a slacker.

  28. Hiya ~ I’ve been watching the Obama documentary..oh, I meant V.

So the spin has already begun. They’re gonna do their best to ignore the fact that with the GOP thoroughly routing the Dems in VA and now NJ possibly going red that the Democrats have fucked up in a fail of epic proportions.

    • It’s painful.

      • It is going to be one hell of a three years — and god d@mned it to h#ll — WE WERE RIGHT!!

A year ago the financial markets were probably manipulated — I’m reading “Bad Money” by Kevin Philips and he certainly makes a case for market manipulation in order to get 0zero into the WH. The current updated version covers the economic climate and manipulations during the elections last year.
DK posted a link to an economic blog — and the writer highly recommended “Bad Money”.

Anyway — the next three years are NOT going to be pretty. Chicago must be a very ugly place. Not ugly ugly — but just ugly.

        • The irony being that anyone paying attention would have known Obama was going to be a disaster for the economy. He was one of the people who thought it was a good idea to give everyone checks and laughed at the idea of sinking money into safety net programs and infrastructure. He only got on board after the fact and still allowed stuff to be watered down to placate the Republicans.

  29. All I see is an exploding cigar…

    • Their idea of fighting is trying to fix the votes either before or after the fact. Without that, they got nothing.

    • Thank you so much for that visual!!!

I’m seeing fewer and fewer 0 bumper stickers — and I can’t help myself when I see one on a vehicle I flip the driver the bird. I know — so juvenile of me.

  30. Elections can have consequences and, in this case, I think that’s a good thing. If they can’t do better than what’s on the table now, PLEASE KILL IT!!!

Top Dems: Obama Won’t Get Health Care Bill in 2009

Unless of course, you’re a Christian Scientist ;-)

    • CNN assures us that, as usual, Obama bears no responsibility for anything. It’s good to be Obama, even when it’s bad, :)

      • How could he be responsible?

        • They actually compared Obama’s results with Deeds’ and talked about how Bush, err, I mean Obama pulled off this amazing unprescedented victory. Poor Deeds. If Obama were only running, he’d be VA gov right now!

Hey, not that it’s at all relevant, but how’s Obama’s approval rating doing? Bout the same as in Jan? Lol

    • Great point.

  31. I’d like to point to a contributing factor in Daggett’s low showing tonight. Here is the ballot position for Daggett on my ballot tonight:
    Somerset County ballot
    and here’s another county:
    Middlesex County ballot
    And here’s another:
    Burlington County ballot

Notice anything? Every ballot is different except for the two major party candidates. Daggett was a significant third party challenger but he was hard to find on the ballots and he was surrounded by the Guntoters of America candidates. This is part of his problem. The other problem is that Democrats who were disgusted by Corzine were too afraid to vote for Daggett. And with more than 30% of the vote in, there seems to have been a significant amount of disgust. Daggett didn’t lose so much as he wasn’t really allowed to play the game.

  32. NJ is 62% in

    Corzine 40%
    Christie 51%
    Daggett 9%

    • Whoa!

    • Well is that giving 0zero a message or what?? 0bama was strutting around telling voters in NJ how important Corzine is to his 0bamacrat party. Gee if I were from NJ — I’d be thinking Corzine = Goldman Sucks = thief of taxpayer money.

    • Whoa. If that holds, that’s a much, much bigger gap than I would have guessed. Actually I was still sure Corzine would pull it out. Wow.

    • Wait…MSNBC just updated their numbers. only 2 % is in.

      • false alarm. #s are same though for 2%

      • Oh brother. Idiots. Sigh. My instinct is Corzine will pull this out. And I’ll be pissed. But we’ll see.

        • ruh roh…4% in

          38 – Corzine

          55 – Christie

It’s going to be a looooonng night.

I’m really disappointed in Daggett’s showing

          • He should have pretended he was the type of guy people could have a beer with.(rolling eyes)

I wish I could say that I believe our country has learned from it’s mistakes and is ready to recognize both parties are part of the problem and therefor not the solution but this is the same electorate that gave us W and then Obama so………..

          • Independents all broke the same way? That’s a much bigger lead than possible in a 3 way race.

          • Don’t be disappointed. He’s up to 12% in my county. Not enough to win at all but a pretty respectable showing considering that it was not easy to find his name on the ballot. There’s a NYT article about the campaign in the suburbs. A lot of people were impressed by Daggett but they were afraid to vote for him because they thought he would cause Christie to win. But the truth is, people just didn’t like Corzine. He didn’t fricking do anything. He was hired to get rid of the property tax problem and he barely lifted a finger. You know, it’s not like we don’t want to pay our fair share of taxes but the property tax here is really outrageous. Something had to be done. So, we elected Corzine.
And he didn’t do anything. It was total “ignore it and maybe it will go away” or “the assembly will take care of it”.
Anyway, I liked Daggett but he was fighting a tsunami. The NYTimes barely covered him. The major polls conveeeeniently left his name out all of the time. He was running on public funds, not party money. And like I said, you had to really search for his name on the ballot. The major party candidates got two prominant slots. He was in a tiny square off to the side buried with all of the lunatic candidates. Just the way the parties like it.

          • Daggett seemed like a pretty good candidate. Wish he had done even better.

          • The majority of the population are either misinformed, ignorant, or too apathetic to take the time to learn about the issues and the candidates. That’s why the two-party system is so appealing because it makes things simple for the majority of people who aren’t political junkies. All they are taught to believe is that their side is less evil than the other side and they vote accordingly. The only way for Daggett to win is to run as a Democrat against Christie in the next election.

  33. It looks like Daggett will make the difference if Corzine loses. We are still waiting for Mercer and Burlington. Mercer is the Trenton area. Burlington is the Camden area. It COULD still swing Corzine’s way. But I am really impressed that Somerset County managed to rack up 12% for Daggett. He must have hit a nerve here. My township is almost evenly split between Ds and Rs. The property taxes are beyond ridiculous and we are the suburbs that are always the last to get state money for education. I think that we’ve had enough.

    • Are the counties still pending more Dem leaning? It’s 44-49 with 48% of the votes in.

      • I’m looking at the NYTimes tally. They are reporting 52% of the vote in. My county, Somerset, just started to report. Somerset is an R. Mercer, probably D. Burlington is just above Camden and across from Philly. Could be either. There are a lot of burbs there. I’d give a slight edge to the D counties left to report. But if 5% makes a difference, I suspect it’s coming out of Corzine’s ass.

        • The big Orange says all of you are just a bunch of subversive Republicans with identity issues.

I had to peek and see if denial is still just a river in Egypt.

          • I watch the Sopranos, the bada bing club crowd is racist as hell. Don’t try to fool us, NJ.

  34. NJ — 53% in 45-49 (Christie)

  35. According to Hotline, exit polls look like Indies went for Christie 58-33 and they were about 27% of the vote. Those numbers were earlier though.

  36. Maine’s referendum:
    14% reporting

    No 32670 52.49%
    Yes 29575 47.51%

  37. Does anyone have any news on the NY 23 race?

  38. hi Conflucans….lighthearted change of topic. Apologies if already discussed, I’ve been avoiding the blogosphere in an effort to sort out my financial life and career…..or lack thereof.

probably should be dropping tv too, but not me…

I’m excited to watch “V” on abc tonight…doesn’t it sound fun?

Welcome to ABC’s “V,” the most fascinating and bound to be the most controversial new show of the fall television season. Nominally a rousing sci-fi space opera about alien invaders bent on the conquest (and digestion) of all humanity, it’s also a barbed commentary on Obamamania that will infuriate the president’s supporters and delight his detractors.

“We’re all so quick to jump on the bandwagon,” observes one character. “A ride on the bandwagon, it sounds like fun. But before we get on, let us at least make sure it is sturdy.”

    • lol! apropos

    • {{snort!}} When does it start?

    • It was really good and I found myself “snorting” thru alot of it. Lots of “change” talk and there is a point where the leader Ana tells her pet reporter that she will not give any interviews unless he shows her in a “positive” light. Hope the rest of it is as good as the first episode.

  39. It’s as close as a good shave in NY’s 23rd, but only 3% reporting

    (C): Doug Hoffman 1570 48%

  40. I’ve got some bad news to pass on. John, Kat5′s husband, just called me. You may remember she’d been having some problems over the summer with her back. It seems they’ve finally diagnosed her correctly with stage 4 lung cancer and it’s pretty much everywhere. She’s in hospice care at home after tomorrow. I did get an address for her in Texas if any of you’d like to send a card or do anything for her. She’s just receiving palliative care at this point. if you just let me know, I can email the address you have attached to your name and I can send you the address.

    (D): Bill Owens 13466 50%
    (R): Dede Scozzafava 1639 6%
    (C): Doug Hoffman 11832 44%

    • I’m surprised by that gap. I know it’s early, but it’s up to 24% reporting and still 51-44 Owens. Hoffman has been up in most polls–of course it does depend on where the numbers are coming in and what is still outstanding.

I’m having mild PTSD flashbacks to the primaries :)

      Those were some anxious nights.

      • Ugh, I cannot be the only one who remembers Indiana for the clusterf*^& it was.

        • That was the night that ended it. She was building such incredible momentum going into NC & IN, and then they screwed with that night, pushing her victory speech into the late night, and it was the excuse they needed to make the WWTSBQ chant deafening. Bill was furious with their vote tampering, remember?

    • I’m actually happy with those results. Hopefully it sends a message to the extreme social conservatives that their reign is over.

  46. Menino Makes History in Boston| 9:46 p.m. Mayor Thomas Menino has just won a fifth term — unprecedented — as mayor of Boston, with his opponent, Michael Flaherty conceding.

    http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/03/live-blogging-the-elections/

  47. I see 39% (Houston Mayoral Race)

    Annise Parker 29.8%
    Gene Locke 25.9%
    Peter Brown 23.8%
    Ray Morales 18.6%

I don’t watch the news so I don’t know if the count is higher yet.

  48. Yikes! the Maine referendum is tightening

  49. AP calls NJ for Christie.

    • Last I checked, CNN was going hard with “Corzine was already in trouble before the President visited NJ.”

      • oh gawd…they are so predictable.

        • Who wants in the pool to bet how quickly they’ll blame Corzine’s loss on Big Dawg’s visit a week or so ago?

          • You know Big D was that man’s last chance. If even his charm can’t save your souffle, then, honey you weren’t meant to rise.

        • You should have heard Gergen go into contortions. Apparently, this indicates “the winds are changing” and it has to do with health care, but what it does not have anything to do with is Obama.

    • I wonder if they’ll interrupt the basketball game to let him know.

  50. A tweet from Jake Tapper… http://twitter.com/jaketapper

“NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” is at the White House tonight. This is not a joke.”

  51. I just heard that NY-23 will not be called until tomorrow morning because certain counties, like St. Lawrence way up north, are not reporting until the a.m. and voting areas are really spread out.

  52. Corzine lost. Damn, good going Dems.

  53. Fox is also calling NJ for Christie.

  54. thats what Corzine gets for giveing all of NJs Dells to BO looks like it payback time .

  55. Looks like a referendum on the party that just got back into power has already begun.

    • Reg, when did you join Hamas? Cut it out. Obama isn’t even a Democrat, leave him be.

      • I would gladly leave him be if he’d leave my television screen for more than five minutes.

      • Now, he’s a Democrat. Just one of those New Democrats.

Not like the “old” one, you know, the one who won two terms because he actually had a grasp on economic issues.

    • How many times do I have to tell you???? It can’t be his fault — he’s watching basketball!!

      • That’s like, “It can’t be his fault that the baby fell out of the high chair. He wasn’t even in the room!”

        • There was a guy in here a couple weeks ago who was like, “There are people in the US who don’t like him! So he can’t possibly be expected to do anything! But, he totally manages to watch basketball anyway in spite of this adversity–he’s amazing!!!!” I think they could do worse than run with that. “Look! He walked to the podium! Look! He’s eating and digesting! Despite not being universally adored as he deserves!”

  56. Karma!

  57. Yes on 1 in Maine is now 1% up… 28% reporting.
    :-(

  58. – CNN projects Republican Chris Christie will be elected New Jersey governor, defeating incumbent Jon Corzine.

  59. Mayor of Houston – 36% in

    Parker 28,792 30%
    Locke 25,541 26%
    Brown 23,129 24%

  60. The Dem is still leading in NY’s 23rd

    D): Bill Owens 28266 50%
    (R): Dede Scozzafava 2926 5%
    (C): Doug Hoffman 25663 45%

  61. we PUMAs predicted this…. the divisive quality of the obama movement… his presidency is about him, not the (health of the) party, or the country.

will be interesting to see how they spin this. i hope they put brazille on a roundtable this sunday!

  62. Somebody has already added Christie to Wikipedia as NJ Gov.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Governors_of_New_Jersey

  63. Big no show of the AA crowd and youth.

Big shift in independent voters from Dem to Repub.

    • Yes, those three stats stood out. Bit of a referendum on the Nobel Laureate tonight.

  65. Haven’t seen an update in Houston since 39%. Parker in the lead at last call, according to the Houston Chronicle.

  66. Y’know, since the primaries, I’m extremely wary of any election results that take forever to be released. It always feels like Gary, Indiana all over again.

    • That’s exactly what I was thinking. Someone is waiting to be told how many votes they have to steal. I hate being that cynical but …

  67. MSNBC reporting: Bloomberg won another election

  68. Houston Mayoral, 58% reporting

    Annise Parker: 29.9%
    Gene Locke: 24.6%
    Peter Brown: 22.9%
    Ray Morales: 19.3%

Peter Brown did not get his money’s worth.

  69. NY’s 23rd:

    23rd Congressional District 56% reporting
    (D): Bill Owens 37833 49%
    (R): Dede Scozzafava 4259 5%
    (C): Doug Hoffman 35516 46%

  70. NYT was shilling so hard for Bloomberg, they had to change their headline
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/election-results/

  71. BTW, in the blogosphere it’s {{{Crickets}}} all around

    • For grins, I checked TL and BTD has no thoughts at all. Among the commentors, seems the important race of the day is CA-10 where a Geramundi is replacing Ellen Tauscher.

      • Hah. Yea, I visited TL a while ago to see what was going on there. I think everyone expected major Dem losses tonight which is why political bloggers like BTD “have no thoughts” on the elections.

      • The Repubs are pushing big to get out their vote against Garimendi. Dems didn’t do any GOTV that I could tell.

But in the special election for the democratic spot, a local woman with good credentials challenged Garimendi and the big gun Dems were calling me every day. I got multiple calls from Bill and Al (Gore, not Sharpton), and others. Her team made lots of volunteer calls, called me about 5 times. She campaigned against the “old boys club,” and called herself an independent thinker. I voted for her but she was overwhelmingly defeated.

But once Garimendi was in, the Dems stopped all GOTV. They completely take us for granted here and its infuriating. I almost want the repub to win, just to make that point

  72. 48 Owens
    46 Hoffman
    5 DeDe
    64% reported

    It’s tightening a bit.

  73. Riverdaughter has a new post, live blogging II up. Everyone upstairs!

  74. Corzine concede?!

  75. I’m really glad that the Dem won in NY 23rd. poor dede

  76. Thank you riverdaughter for restoring traditional values to the great state of Virginia!
Women such as yourself and Hillary now know their place.
Together we will show Barack Obama and the Kennedy liberals that we are a conservative country and value the work of men!

    PUMA! Huckabee in 12!

    • It’s about time some Obots showed up. (You’re late, as usual) YAY RD!! You’ve just restored traditional values to the state of VA even though you don’t live there – simply by voting for the Independent in your own state. You are one POWERFUL woman.
