Ohhhhhh Sarahcuda!!!!

palin-gop-futureHow do they spin the unpredictable Governor of Alaska with her unorthodox (to say the least) brand of maverick Republican Politics?  The money’s on a move to lay low and go for the GOP presidential nod in 2012.

Let’s check some of the usual suspects and feel the spin!

Bill Kristol jumped right in at the Weekly Standard.  If you’re of those queasy progressives who doesn’t like unfiltered threads, skip ahead to the next link. (Sorry, I don’t predigest your thoughts for you.  Ignore my threads if that’s what you want.)

If Palin wants to run in 2012, why not do exactly what she announced today? It’s an enormous gamble – but it could be a shrewd one.

After all, she’s freeing herself from the duties of the governorship. Now she can do her book, give speeches, travel the country and the world, campaign for others, meet people, get more educated on the issues – and without being criticized for neglecting her duties in Alaska. I suppose she’ll take a hit for leaving the governorship early – but how much of one? She’s probably accomplished most of what she was going to get done as governor, and is leaving a sympatico lieutenant governor in charge.

And haven’t conservatives been lamenting the lack of a national leader? Well, now she’ll try to be that. She may not succeed. Everything rests on her talents, and on her performance. She’ll be under intense and hostile scrutiny, and she’ll have to perform well.

All in all, it’s going to be a high-wire act. The odds are against her pulling it off. But I wouldn’t bet against it.

So that’s one smarmy conservative talking head who votes for unusual step but she’s probably going to run for President in 2012.  Let’s move left.  I like Pam Spaulding and her blog Pam’s House Blend.  So she bedecked my facebook with this one  Bible Spice steps down to pack for the 2012 GOP Clown Car Caravan.

UPDATE: MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell makes it sound like Palin is stepping down for family reasons and is sick of politics… has told backers she wants OUT.

UPDATE 2 (by Pam): She figures Mark Sanford self-immolated, Charlie Crist (ha) is going for the Senate, Mitt’s Mormonism won’t pass the fundie test, and Bobby Jindal looks like a featherweight. I guess that leaves Huckabee. What a field that is for 2012.

So that’s one progressive woman for it’s a move towards a presidential run in 2012.  Just a bit of the old Palin Derangment Syndrome but at least it’s cute.  I even smiled at the Bible Spice characterization.  Let’s on to the NY Times with a little spin also from Mary Matlin.  This is from The Caucus blog with bylines by Mitchell Blumenthal and Kate Phillips.  You could whiff the PDS all the way down here in the bayou over the cajun spices aboil on the range.

Her decision follows a week of extraordinarily bad publicity, from within her own state over ethics inquiries and across the national landscape as top aides on her vice-presidential campaign and supporters have been engaged in a highly public feud that has spilled out in vociferous tones online on blogs and on television. Bloggers in Alaska, critics of the governor as well as former Palin supporters, suggest also that pending releases of e-mails among the Palins were about to expose her to further questions about her finances and governance issues.

Reached by CNN at her farm in the Shenandoah valley, Mary Matalin, a top Republican consultant, called Ms. Palin’s move “brilliant” although she said she was initially taken aback by the news. But she seconded the notion that the governor’s decision was smart in the sense that it will free her up, as former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has been, to travel the country to make inroads with potential voters.

Ms. Matalin joked that despite her own initial inside-the-Beltway reaction of surprise, shoppers at her local WalMart in the Shenandoah would be whooping “hoo-rahs” because of Ms. Palin’s continued popularity among conservative voters.

The resignation would remove Ms. Palin, for example, from criticisms like those she received earlier this year when she was forced to cancel appearances in the “lower 48” to pursue her national ambitions at a time of disastrous flooding in Alaska.

That would be one east coast press establishment political talking head who still has Palin Derangement Syndrome AND doesn’t want to commit to any speculation WHILE spending an awful lot of time being negative.  Chalk that up to me just wanting to make this other point, however.   I don’t like Palin’s political views but isn’t there a less nasty way of saying that with out the specious personal comments?

Okay, I didn’t learn my lesson.  One more east coast press establishment political talking head who will make a commitment.  At least it seems to lack the Palin Derangement Syndrome’s worst symptoms.  This time it is from WaPo and Chris Cizilla. Still east coast press establishment, but slightly less hellbent on the Palin Derangement Syndrome.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office later this month, according to several sources familiar with her decision, freeing her to build a national political team and travel the country in support of an expected 2012 presidential bid.

The first term governor is stepping down “so that she can take the fight for her issues elsewhere,” according to a Palin aide.

Palin’s decision comes amid polling that showed her losing altitude from the stratospheric heights to which she ascended following her election in 2006 but remained a strong favorite to win reelection.

Some Republican strategists expressed skepticism about Palin’s decision.

“I’m not smart enough to see the strategy in this,” said John Weaver, a senior party strategist. “Good point guards don’t quit and walk off the court.”

Definitely the most interesting take took me to the BRAD BLOG with this “exclusive”.

Alaskan Sarah Palin authority (and occasional BRAD BLOG guest blogger) Shannyn Moore, who broke the news at HuffPo today, tells me she believes, with good reason, that there is an “iceberg scandal that’s about to break. She’s doing damage control.”

She says Palin is “resigning as part of damage control” due to a scandal that is “not of a family nature.” …

“The governor would not be able to continue her job when it comes out,” she told me on the phone just now, before adding: “Why would Mark Sanford not resign, but Sarah Palin did? Her family didn’t even know about the resignation until they were standing with her by the lake” when she made her announcement.

Yes. It seems another shoe, apparently a big one, will indeed be dropping, likely within the next week or so. Perhaps earlier now that everyone will be poking around up there.

So here are 10 Theories Why from The Daily Beast.  Actually, that should read HYPOTHESES, but I’ll let it pass since I’m on summer vacation.  So how many of these are due to PDS compared to some kind of reality based reasoning?  You decide.

THEORY 1: VANITY FAIR HURT HER FEELINGS

THEORY 2: SHE’S RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

THEORY 3: SHE’S NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

THEORY 4: SHE’S SICK OF ALASKA

THEORY 5: IT WAS A WHIM

THEORY 6: THE ETHICS POLICE WERE ABOUT TO NAB HER

THEORY 7: SHE’S UNSTABLE

THEORY 8: HER HANDLERS ARE INCOMPETENT

THEORY 9: SHE’S ANGLING FOR A TV SHOW

THEORY 10: SHE HAS A GOD COMPLEX

Have you ever seen a woman that seems to drive them all so wild?  I have to say, this is when I really admit to being addicted to the blood sport of Politics.   Palin’s views make my toes curl but I gotta admit she gets under every one’s skin which, son of a gun,  is a ton of fun to watch from down here in the bayou. You have to love a woman than can do that!  Grab yourself a Dixie and bottoms up mes cher amies!!!

  1. Is the elephant on the floor (cartoon) Mitt?

  2. reposting from downstairs… of course i post right as the new post comes up… =/

    anyways…

I haven’t read the first thread (out all day) so i’m not sure if it’s been covered, but i’m worried that Sarah might have resigned for a greater role in the Republican party. This worries me because I feel like it could only end in two ways:
    1) She gets a major role in the party, is well recieved, and ends up as a major leader. I wouldn’t like this because the thing i admired in her the most (along with her fighting spirit) is how she has an independent streak, and it would likely disappear if she were to lead the party
    2) She tries to get into the party, but there are a lot of negative feelings towards her because of jelousy, gender, politics, whatever. She ends up with less support than ever and while she keeps her independent streak, she loses prospects for the future.

    thoughts?

  3. Found on a “Left” leaning blog:

    From the Palin piece:

“This decision came after much consideration,” Ms. Palin told reporters gathered at her home, and added, “I really don’t want to disappoint anyone with this announcement.”

    I speak republi-KKKon, so I can translate-

“Oops! Who’d a thunk the blood test would show Todd was Bristol’s baby’s father? I think those Purity Ball’s are still the best way for a Dad to introduce a young girl to womanhood, ya know. And this has nothing to do with those pictures of me taking Samuel Wurzelbacher on that ‘moose hunt’, if ya know what I mean (WINK!).”

(Michael Moore himself being example A in the movie)

Ack! …..there are not enough doctors to help all these pycho-sexually F**ked up people…Guys! (& Wonkettes too) stick with your own self fellacio & leave other people out of your cyber stalker inclinations.

    • Over on Salon, they’re having a little hatefest on Joan Walsh’s thread about Palin. As I said when I added my comment, the New Left is more mean spirited than the far right ever managed. These people are positively scary, a bunch of nasty hypocrites. I want nothing to do with them.

    • THEORY 11: Wankers love a good football to kick around

(In the spirit of Spinal Tap: “but this one goes to elleven”)

  5. More classiness from the Democratic party concerning Sarah Palin… Oh, there just sooo predictable anymore. Shades of the attacks on Hillary Clinton, imo. Losers…
    —————————————————————–

The Democratic National Committee immediately slammed Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s decision to leave office early.

    DNC Spokesman Brad Woodhouse:

“Either Sarah Palin is leaving the people of Alaska high and dry to pursue her long shot national political ambitions or she simply can’t handle the job now that her popularity has dimmed and oil revenues are down. Either way – her decision to abandon her post and the people of Alaska who elected her continues a pattern of bizarre behavior that more than anything else may explain the decision she made today.”

    • At least the DNC did not fake any concern for her family.

      • How could they, they still have the attacking points…ooops talking points at the ready, just in case. I did take offense at the bizarre comment as they are trying to say she is a crazy woman, when they didn’t say zilch about the state of mind of the missing Governor.

We Must Divest From Misogyny, Our Lives Depend On It!

      • lol!!

    • The DNC is promoting the idea that women are not capable with their antics of accusations of ‘bizarre’ behavior. Shame on them!

We Must Divest From Misogyny, Our Lives Depend On It!

      • Come on.

They would say this if it were a man resigning, as long as it’s a (R). Btw, it would be the same thing the other way around.

        Just wait until Sanford resigns.

        • No they wouldn’t. The RI Chief Justice resigned abruptly from a high position, and the press speculated about possible scandal, but no one suggested he was crazy, erratic, or bizarre.

          • There was a buzz-attracting headline just the other day called “Sanford’s mental state questioned.”

            http://www.thestate.com/sanford/story/849427.html

          • Um yeah because he’s running around declaring his love for this woman. If she does that, feel free to call her erratic. His behavior IS downright bizarre, and she’s getting more mental health questions.

          • My post appeared then disappeared, but anyway, Sanford’s behavior running around publicly declaring his love for his soulmate IS downright bizarre. She does that, feel free to call her erratic. Meanwhile, she’s getting more mental Heath criticism for doing nothing.

          • Seriously @ 9:57:

I’m not calling Palin erratic. Just saying, imho, it’s become pretty standard for the Dems to respond to GOP (and opponents on the left) with some variation of “WTF, you’re unstable” whether the charge is deserved or not. I think a less ambiguous example of the rampant sexism (and classism) that Palin has faced is the filth that Todd Purdum relayed in Vanity Fair about the GOP bandying around specific words, like postpartum.

        • Do you approve of the DNC bringing out the ‘crazy’ woman theme? Do tell…sitting down… Come on, let me hear it!

We Must Divest From Misogyny, Our Lives Depend On It!

    • “bizarre” That’s the fourth time I’ve read that word in connection with the Palin announcement. I’m betting Axelshitz immediately sent out the talking points. She’s so “bizarre”, like she’s a real nutter for giving up her lame duck, part-time position as AK’s Governor. hehehe

  6. This is the Party of women right? I’m really starting to think there’s something wrong with them over there.

Don’t forget Theory Eleven: She’s feeling blue.

    • LMFAO! And “the claws are about to come out because she feels down…”

    • This is the Party of women right?

Oh hell no Regency…didn’t you get the memo? They’re now the “Sexisthomophobacrat Party.” Please make the necessary corrections to your address book.

  7. I’m looking at the title of one of the “related posts.” It says, “Bristol Palin is pregnant: Life happens.” Made me thinking, ‘A teenager is pregant: water is wet. News at eleven.”

  8. I must go much work to do but while I am here I want to announce my intention to run for Illinois State Senator on teh Republican ticket.
. Next Tuesday I should have the paperwork for Afrocity PAC.

I will be running against Rolland Burris for Obama’s old seat.

    Afrocity (R-IL)

  9. You forgot theory 12: She’s even smarter that the one asn actually playing 17th dimensional chess!!!

  10. New at The Daily Beast. Max Blumenthal thinks there is a scandal brewing too.

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-07-03/did-a-scandal-sink-the-uss-palin/

    • Blumenthal’s earlier story he referenced in this one turned out to be a complete lie. Why he’d mention it now is beyond me unless he’s proud of being a lying asshole.

“On July 1, CBS reported that a story authored by me and journalist David Neiwert for Salon.com in October 2008 about Palin’s ties to a secessionist political party caused her deep personal distress, and provoked a rancorous series of exchanges with her campaign manager, Steve Schmidt.”

  11. If there is indeed a scandal a-looming, stepping aside without confessing it is an incredibly stupid move. All it does is send the bloodhounds more furiously on her trail. The only way to deal with scandal nowadays is to get in front of it and go with the “at least I had the character to tell you before anybody else did.”

    • Exactly. Running from scandal doesn’t make any sense to me, as if that’s going to prevent the scandal from being publicized, or prevent prevent Sarah Palin from having to answer some tough questions.

  12. What ever Sarah has planned keeping a low profile isn’t part of it.

Making the announcement today pretty much guarantees she will be the top news all weekend and possibly for the next couple of weeks.

    • When Obama is in Russia next week Sarah can give him the finger from her house. The media will all be hers.

      • Hey, you are a comedian too!

      • That’s funny. I wish I lived in Alaska. I have a pretty big middle finger. I’m sure he could see it from Russia! :)

      • You mean, she will scratch her nose. (Technically, the only person who said she could see Russia from her house was Tina Fey.)

      • OMG, that’s hilarious. I’d love to borrow it this weekend, but all the gay folk coming over for the fourth are B0 fans….ugh.

    • Friday dump. You have the 4th of July coming.

I think it was well calculated but Sarah Palin is among the people who make a bigger splash in the water than anybody else.

    • absolutely. this was no way to dodge a scandal or anything else. this is doing exactly what it was designed to do, get major league attention for Sarah.

      • Look under enough rocks and your sure to find some dirt. I hope, for her family’s sake that this is all bat guano. I bet if you looked under the nails of ALL politicians, you will find “Something” that seems unethical.

  13. Wow, the anti-Palin abuse on Twitter is stunning. You’d think there would be some conservatives defending her.

    • See, this is why I want her to run, no matter if I can bring myself to vote for her or not. This shit needs to be brought out, brought to a head. All that nasty pus needs to get right out in the open where EVERYONE can see how filthy-full of misogyny this country is.

I want those young Obama girls to see what the kewl boyz they are hanging around with are really like.

      • I think they DO see it, problem is they see it happen to someone else they think deserves it, and that they’re somehow immune. Until it happens to them that is.

      • One of the reasons I was banned at TL was that I commented on J’s threads that the Obama campaign was like a pus filled appendix and should be removed from the body politic before it burst and took us all down.

May not have been cool, but I still believe that and the only way to end this shit is to bring it into full sunlight so people can see it without filters. A Palin campaign might just accomplish that and, if it did, I think she could win.

      • As Violet Socks put it, no matter how many “c—” t-shirts you wear, you can’t become an honorary man, and you will find they hate you just as much as they hate all the others

      • The young obama girls love the attacks on Palin, that’s the worst part of all.

    • Nope! It seems we here at TC are the only ones doing it. There may be some, but i can’t find them.

    • We don’t twitter much. Since I have switched parties it is obvious that we do things differently. That is why the whole tea party thing was remarkable because Republicans do not normally protest. We are defending Sarah on our own blogs. Why throw pearls before swine?

      Obots are draining.

  14. Does Sarah have an official site? I’m curious to read what her most diehard supporters have to say about today’s announcment? DO they see this as positive or are they worried?

  15. Go Sarah! Go get those Republican/Democrat machistas!

  16. Did anyone notice that little gleam when she mentioned that “they want me to sit down and shut up”?

Whether she runs in 2012 or not, Sarah is NOT about to go away quietly. That ain’t even on this sister’s radar, trust me. LOL!

    • I agree. The whole transcript of her speech left a wide open space for continued visibility. She is planning something or other. Be it a run in 2012 or what… I don’t know.

    • I hope she takes a breather for a few months, give the ‘media’ a vacuum that needs to be filled. Who knows, maybe with Sarah taking a well deserved break, they might actually do their job and wind up turning on their messiah…..have to sell papers somehow. :)

  17. After seeing this video I say Yep she’s running for President. No doubt about it in my mind. I wouldn’t be surprised if she announced it on Independence day..tomorrow. She has nothing to lose so she’s about to get out there and draw some big unmanipulated crowds..I mean huge….

  18. This is what vanity Fair’s Todd Purdum claims he was told by McCain insiders….

Purdum, writing with a polite disdain, does flatter Palin as “the sexiest and riskiest brand in the Republican Party,” before he goes on to mention unnamed McCain campaign sources who tell stories of Palin’s erratic behavior on the trail supposedly caused by her “post-partum depression.

Her own party was willing to destroy her credibility. No wonder she stepped down. Where is the Party and why are they not defending her?

    They FEAR her!

    • All of them fear the true outsider, cause that outsider will rock their worlds if elected. I honestly believe that’s the base of this, as much as the sexism, it’s just abject fear.

      • That and she’s from the “Common Folk.” Gods forbide we forget our place and aspire to something grander. The “Establishment will do what ever it has to to remind you of your “Low Birth!”

We all remember what the “Beautiful Ones” said of Hillary and Bill. Low life hicks from Arkansas! Or something to that effect,. Not too far off though. Especially that atrocious Maureen Dowd!

      • I agree it’s fear as well.

  19. Oh and Meeechelle must be shaking in her sandals.

  20. …”And the man in the back said everyone attack and it turned into a ballroom blitz.”

Kinda reminds me of the Palin bashers out there!

  21. Is Sarah Palin going to be Puma’s Obama? I mean my goodness! What are her policies? Does anyone know where she stands? Why are you guys so in love with her? I mean, i think she’s a strong woman, and I even campaigned my ASS off for her and john mcCain, but to me, we don’t know where she stands on many many issues, and the love for her is very similar to the love for obama, no? I mean, i was a huge hillary supporter because of the things she has done to fight for people her entire life. She was chairman of the Children’s defense fund, she worked on the committee to impeach nixon, she fought to get children a better education in AR, and all the sudden pumas seem to live for Sarah even though she has not the 10th of the record as Hillary. I know it’s amazing that she stands strong and is about to run for the highest office in the land. She certainly has balls of steel, which i love, but come on. We don’t know how far she is willing to go to fight the institution. Do we know where she stands on many many issues? I’m happy to see her [expletives deleted] but is there no wariness here of her policy preferences?

    • WTH are you talking about? Maybe one or two people here support Palin. Most of us are just interested in the story.

      • ok. i guess i’m just reading too much daily puma stories. :D .

        • NYC: we’re just supporting her right to run without being subjected to vile attacks as well as harrassment of her family. Most of us preface our support with: I don’t agree with her policies. But you gotta love her spunk. I don’t think there’s any scandal afoot. I think that she’s shrewd enough to realize that MJ’s death had been milked for all its worth for the past week.

But next week the funeral will bring him back as the lead story and will be in contention with BHO’s trip to Russia; so this way she gets to dominate the new cycle for the entire weekend. Only competiton wil be fireworks and parades.

    • I don’t think we are “Endorsing” her for public office NYC. It’s that we are supporting her as a WOMAN. We are tired of the Media’s attacks on women with intelligence. Choosing instead to see them as a sex object.

We are disgusted with the attacks against her family as we were when it was done to Hillary.
Make no mistake…we will question her politics. We will disagree when need be but we will not sit idly by as a woman is attacked simply because she is ……..A woman!

      • Of course we speak out against sexist attacks, and agree that is diff. from being excited about the prospect of her as president. We shall see. Maybe i’ll be eating my words as the months go on and she doesn’t dominate former hillary supporter blogs.

    • Dude, we’ve met Hillary before, but thank you for the lesson.

Cut the bullshit on Sarah Palin. We’ve met her, too. I’m getting damned sick of people acting like we’re a bunch of twelve year-olds who’ve never been in love before. We know who she is. We were here in 2008. Take your attitude down nine notches and get back to me.

      • you tell her/him Reg!!

      • Reg! Reg!

You know, I wouldn’t mind having to wait 20 years if our first woman President if it could be you.

      • Right on!

      • Not who she is as a person. Which is kind of the point.

        • and what bullshit on SP you are talking about i have no idea. ??. Wihch is also what i’m noticing. See, i didn’t say anything bad about her and yet there is an instant response as if i were. Unless i didn’t see that i wrote some BS on her.

          • You assumed that we couldn’t see straight about her. I’m sick of peole assuming that I can’t judge someone on their own merit without having to explicitly declared it every time I speak about her. She’s no Obama and I’m no Chris Matthews.

If there’s any one thing that makes me Obot like, it’s that I take my politics incredibly personally. That, however, doesn’t mean my head’s not in the game. That was the bullshit.

    • If you find a candidate who’s good on issues, good for you. Between Bush and Obama, the bar is so low I doubt any truly good candidates will be coming for decades. Once again, we’re trapped in a cycle of candidates we don’t agree with who agree with each other on policy on both sides. Welcome to our political system.

      • Good point!

      • Yeah, i hear you. I wouldn’t vote for Snowjob if he were the only person on the ballot forever, but in 2016, oh man.

      • Right on! I would much prefer a choice between Palin and Obama in 2012 and not Jeb and Obama … or Mitt and Obama.

Besides, I’m a Gynocrat now. After last year I have come to the realization that it is imperative that we put more women into political office regardless of party affiliation, especially considering that we have one corporatist party feigning two political ideologies. There will be no true liberals running in 2012 except perhaps in the Green Party. But if Palin maintains her outsider status she will be our best shot at some real change.

    • We live for Sarah? Who the hell are you talking about? I’ve said several times I’m not sure I’d even vote for her, but I still say GO SARAH! if she wants to run and stick it to the sliming bastards on BOTH sides of the aisle.

That pretty much seems to be the attitude of most on her, with a few outright supporters. Bots we are not.

    • Oh, and the thing that made me despise Obama was not his stated policy preferences. It was the man himself, and his sleazy, smarmy complete lack of spine and character.

      • Mos’ def. He’s a slimy piece of shit. And yes, she is def. not. He is a major scumbucket which is why i campaigned for Sarah over him.

      • Oh, and the thing that made me despise Obama was not his stated policy preferences

You’d have to look far and why for any of his stated policy preferences. Beyond “yes we can” and “hope and change” there wasn’t any substance.

    • I am pretty sure no one here has outright said they support Sarah Palin’s policies or politics. You are jumping to conclusions and needlessly throwing stones, my friend.

  22. I selfishly like the 3rd party idea but I am not sure that is where Sarah plans to go. I agree most with the comment that Sarah is now free—4th of July and Independence Day for Sarah—to give speeches, build a network of support, rally the troops etc. I am sure that she gets plenty of speech opportunities for real money and I am also sure that would wear thin on the people of Alaska over time. So this declaration of independence for her means that she can leave that behind and move forward.

I would really like to see Sarah get out in front and involved in combating misogyny in the media and in the work place. I think this move frees her up to fight. My guess is that she has been working on this and something came through for her that makes this very possible financially and politically.

I hope her book takes off and it includes some straight talk about the insides of the McCain campaign. I think McCain was very poorly served by his campaign staff and the Vanity Fair article only demonstrates how poorly they serve the Republican party. I saw a Republican strategist on Fox who took a swipe at Palin for responding to Letterman while pretending to be supportive of Palin.

The great thing is at least Palin’s moves are interesting and exciting even if they do not go anywhere. She is one hell of a lot more interesting than Mitt Romney or Newt. At least she has the political elites guessing and speculating. The Democratic party announcement was absolutely a piece of crap—they should all be in the center of that circle jerk firing squad.

  23. Author of anti-Palin book gives her theories.

Leah Burton-the author of the book TheoPalinism: The Face of Failed Extremism and creator of the blog theopalinism.com whose testimony about Wayne Anthony Ross led to him being passed over as Alaksa attorney general has a good take on Palin’s resignation, based on her perspective as a Palin watchdog. We spoke a right after Palin’s speech. Says Burton:

She is prepping to start a “full court press” nationally to whip up her base into a frenzy! This is going to get ugly… Anybody who thinks she going away is crazy.

…Burton feels Palin wants to stay in the spotlight and is

mad that Newt and Mitt can run around while’s she’s stuck in Alaska.

Leah Burton’s take syncs with a just-published LA Times op-ed by Lisa Richardson, which reads Palin’s surprise resignation announcement as an offensive move:

There’s a huge void in the Republican Party and she’s moving to fill it. So watch out Rush! Sarah Palin vs. Rush Limbaugh. What can this resignation mean except a frontal assault on talk radio?

…She got a ton of money with that book deal, so she doesn’t need the job. And now she avoids the charge of shirking her duties every time she flees the state to attend a fancy dinner in the lower 48. I bet Alaska didn’t have a chance of keeping her after floods forced her to stay home and be gubernatorial while Todd had a ball at the White House Correspondents’ dinner. You know she just hated missing that.

    • That is so ‘CLASS’ based, it is embarrassing to read.

We Must Divest From Misogyny, Our Lives Depend On It!

    • Reloading, fer sure.

I just heard about her resignation moments ago from BBC, logged on to TC, watched the vid, read ALL the comments :) , and my strong (but humble) opinion is that is she’s pissed and ready to fight.

As it happened, the hubby and I were JUST talking about her. I was telling him to, once again, ixnay on picking me up any VF issues in the future. (I quit them once before when they were shoving Bush down everyone’s throat.) The “It Comes From Wasilla” was IT for me. Immediately “It Cried” came to mind.

We’d also been talking about how sick society has become, and if proof of that is necessary, you only have to look at the PDS freaks. Their reaction to her is just fucked up.

  24. BB—I support your comment. And I think Sarah strikes a chord with many of us here because we see her trashed by the msm the same way we say HRC trashed. I know that is what pulls me into her story and she is just plain different and interesting. I do not see the support for her at all like the Obama support. Whole different range of folks; much more working class, everyday folks support Sarah and it is not idolatory and messianic like for O—it is much more like people supporting their home town team basketball captain.

  25. My prediction – Sarah will become the new Chairperson of the RNC.

Steele is in trouble and the Repub bosses think a lot of women in this country can be moved over to the Republican party. Also, this will give Sarah national exposure for several years before she needs to make a decision about her future in elective office.

  26. Obama tried to create the image of “the little guy who came from nothing, and was going to take on the establishment and politics as usual”. Of course, it was a complete fabrication, and he was the biggest insider there ever was, from the beginning of his career. He was GROOMED for that farce by some very big pockets indeed.

Sarah, however, really is an outsider. I like that about her. Other side of the political fence, but she is precisely what Obama pretended to be.

    • Not only is she an outsider, she embodies the American dream of rising in the world according to your talent and hard work.

Pundits are talking about how this shows she can’t finish a job. What I heard her say is that they’ve accomplished in two years the goals they had hoped to achieve in 4. I don’t think there’s a scandal–if there were, after all the digging the 0s pushed up there, it would not be a secret only known by Sarah.

Also interesting that she said she’d work for people with the right values and goals, whether they are part of any party or no party.

Somethings going on, and whatever it is, I think it’s good for her.

  27. Could be but, if you notice, every time Steele steps one inch away from rw dogma he gets whacked. Somehow, I don’t think Palin would take that deal and it would stop women from being attracted. Being Gov would have been better.

  28. Because he acts crazy. I wish he’d get his sh-t together, I don’t like seeing him go out like this.

  29. I don’t know how many of you read the interview with Palin by Runner’s World that was linked here a few days ago but to me that was a very revealing interview. I am no athlete but I used to run and still backpack and hike so I could really relate to the perspective and the drive Sarah revealed about herself. She has a connection with the real world, with nature, with the environment that Hollywood and liberal elites talk about but really do not have it in their souls. She has that connection in her soul and it makes her at once both a progressive and a conservative.

  30. I’m voting for her. I’m a dem who wants my country back. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to hear what she’s really saying. She’s running for President to fight for not only Alaskans but all Americans…everything she said reveals her run…besides, she already signed on to run and the papers were filed last November. Two weeks ago a mailer went out for donations to her SarahPac…
Mechelle Obama’s crotch bulge will be bigger now when she hears that Palin is running. I mean her kotex was showing and now she’ll need 2 pads. Mechelle wants to take anyone down who is a threat to her dynasty. She’s vicious and she writes the playbook not axlehat

  31. Sarah upsets many on the right and plenty on the left. The only way I see Sarah is as an Independent. And, I really think we need a good, strong third choice.

  32. No way RNC deal. It would never have been announced in this way and it is not Sarah at all.

  33. This guy, supposedly a comedian had a post up at Huffpo with the following title:

Palin Will Run In ‘12 On More Retardation Platform

Someone at Huffpo pulled it right away, but it’s still listed at Memeorandum.

    • As I said earlier. They have no shame and no sense.

      • I suppose this idiot thought he was clever. What the hell happened to civility in this country? Where the hell did this new generation, and some of the older, learn this crap?

    • Are these bloggers bankers? They’re the only one’s I can see who would be so hateful to Sarah cause in my way of thinking, they see these attacks as standing up for Obama. And, the rest of us have no reason ot cheer him on.

  34. I am glad she is charting her own course I got tired of watching the Daily Palin Stoning Show via the Media/Press Cheer Leaders and it was not good for all women, especially young girls.

I will be reading her book when it comes out.

We Must Divest From Misogyny, Our Lives Depend On It!

  35. She mentioned Trig. All I know is that when someone goes after your kid, especially an infant, watch out. There is no one more formidable than a working mom.

  36. Is it my computer or did a bunch of comments just vanish?

    • wordpress is acting up. You may find those comments out of chronology upthread. I’m not sure why this is happening.

    • It’s been happening for a while now Reg. Your not the only one …LOL

  37. It’s kind of condescending to act like people don’t have valid reasons for choosing their candidates. Why would you think assuming that wouldn’t cause annoyance?

  38. I wish they’d let Steele be as moderate as he wants to be. He wrote an amazing letter to the members of the RNC when he first took office. It was solid gold.

  39. I think wordpress ate my comment for a bit :-)

I saw Steele once say something which I thought was totally innocuous about people deciding for themselves about what’s right for them. Next thing I knew the fundies were all over him. I admit I don’t have background but it seemed like he got whacked back into line over a tiny thing.

  40. Third party would be the smart bet Chay but I doubt she will track that way. I don’t see what is keeping her tied to the Republican party. The power brokers in her party have been all to content to toss her to the wolves. I would have bolted a long time ago.

This country is more than ready for a viable third party. We are fed up with the greed, theft and outright disrespect that these two party’s have shown us.

  41. New Palin post up. I’ll leave this thread open for a few more minutes.

  42. Steele has been disappointing in some ways, but he has also impressed me. His comments about moderates were annoying though. I loathe the RNC as much as I loathe the DNC. They are both run by the same people anyway.

  43. Aaaaah, what do you know about the Bayou anyways?

From where I am standing in the bayous I think she just got sick of the garbage or there really is some sort of fed indictment coming down the path. However, I would hardly call Brad Blog’s take “interesting.” Right now that seems to be the worst stretch imaginable and is being fielded to gain some hits. (If I am wrong I won’t admit it later either.) But, getting ousted because of building materials? C’mon? I hope it is more than that if it is indictment time for Pete’s sake.

Either way, best of luck to the former Gov. I hope she can find a little peace somewhere.

  44. Where did all the posts go?

  45. I root for Palin because I like to see fair play. I haven’t a clue as to her politics. I just know MSNBC/GE hate her and trash her day in and out … at this point that’s enough for me.

Another point is , what does one get if they vote for the current DC Dems? Their policies are exactly like those of the GOP…but exactly. So I am asked to hold my nose to vote Dem so…what? So their ketchup is a vegetable GOP mini me policies can go forward? No can do. Palin is disliked by the elite of her own party, really at this point here isn’t Dem or GOP. There the super haves and the rest of us.

  47. Alaska is too far away to run for national office. That’s why Palin had to choose between being free to run for the presidency or stay as governor of a state that might as well be in another universe.

  48. Not Found

Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.

WordPress is ghosting comments and disappearing altogether at times.

  49. This really does free her…

I believe from the video, she is eyeing a run for prez in 2012. I have mixed feelings and cannot get too excited to support her candidacy yet, if that is the case. (even tho I voted McC/P in 2008, first republican vote I ever cast in 20 years of voting.)

But I really do admire her style. She doesn’t have to sit there and take the abuse, be under fire, etc. It’s a vast departure from Hillary’s style. I loved (still do, mostly, except when she speaks with the koolaid on her breath) that about Hillary, that she was so incredibly strong and had such amazing staying power, and could stay in the game even when the players had totally screwed her over. But in the end….it didn’t take Hillary where she wanted to be. I realize this comparison is uber-simplistic and might offend some folks… it isn’t meant to undercut Hill’s profoundly amaing career, or her choices. But just sayin. I admire the mavrick-y moves.

The misogynists are about to turn the volume up to 11. They will be outraged that she has the audacity to take the bull by the horns. Watch out, here it comes.

  50. What happened to the PDS post?

Apparently, there are also these rumors going around about an “iceberg scandal”. They wish.

    http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/07/03/rumors-fly-about-palins-iceberg-scandal/

  51. Can I ask – it seems almost a prerequisite among liberals who have hated what the MSM have done to both Palin and Clinton and want to defend Palin on that level to begin each defense by saying “I dislike her views, but . . ” Or, “I don’t agree with any of her politics or policies, but . . .”

I even do that myself. I found myself today asking myself – “Myself,” I asked, “What views of hers do you disagree with?” I can think of only very few. She is personally pro-life, and I am pro-choice, but she hasn’t moved to make her views public policy, nor did she say she would when running as VP. She is against gay marriage, and I am for it, but she vetoed a state bill to deny domestic partner benefits to gays and lesbians in Alaska. She is gun-toting and I think there should be gun restrictions, but frankly, as much as I may dislike it, I’m on the wrong side of constitutional interpretation here.

I think the only place we’d differ substantially maybe on single payer health care, but again I realized that, when it comes down to it, the kneejerk – “Well, I’m against her substantively on everything, but . . ” is probably just that – kneejerk.

    • I think it is any more because we continually get attacked for saying anything nice about her. We’re supposed to join in the hate and spout the canards or we loose our liberal ‘creds’ . However, there was also this phenomenon in the fall that made me want to qualify my support of Palin also. That was the Republicans that assumed since I was sincerely uncomfortable with Obama, that made me Republican. I am not a Republican. Saying that I can see both McCain and Palin in somewhat different than the Republican brand mold and appreciating some things about them does not mean I’ve thrown out my values and joined the dark side.

At the Confluence, we get attacked from all sides for giving out of the box thinking front page. It is true, I have strong distaste for what the Democratic party has morphed into recently, but it is also true that does not make me a Republican. At the moment, I still define myself as a Democrat in Exile. If this all continues, I will firmly implant myself in the independent column. I would never, under current circumstances, self-identify as a Republican.

  52. Someone mentioned Palin’s real world view of nature and her participation in its natural beauty throughout Alaska. I saw that too. While liberals talk about the planet and opine about global warming, I don’t see many turning off their air conditioners or buying little prius vehicles, especially in Hollywood.
I think its apprapo that she made this announcement on INDEPENDANCE DAY. I would love nothing better than to see a viable candidate join a third party and give both of the political establishment’s “shirts vs. skins” game a what fer.
She is free to start attacking back like a good mama bear does. I’d start with the media. How many of us have turned off our TVs at news time because there are no more uncorporate controlled media to watch. How many of us have come to the realization that we are to be entertained at 6 and 11 by “The Hollywood Reports” that can’t even keep up with The National Enquirer. How many of us have come to the realization that the “reporter’s tool” is now Google and that every one of them has only fed us a repetition of things we already have read online somewhere. That goes from NBC all the way to Rush Limbaugh. The Democrats and media want us all to believe that ole Rush is the face of The Republicans when actually many consider him as vile and obnoxious as anything else. Its a game for the media and they are not very good at it. People cannot be labeled anymore and most fill a spot somewhere in the middle of both parties views but we’re ignored. There’s a huge void to fill and neither party has a clue that we are here. Thats what Hillary meant when she said “you won’t be invisible anymore” under her administration. Thats why she got more VOTES than any other candidate and we were left wondering what the hell happened to America. I hope Palin rests a few days or goes out and has some fun in her beautiful state and then hits em hard. No matter what she does politically, she has a few choice words prepared for the likes of Andrew Sullivan and his ilk I hope.

  53. “I’m not smart enough to see the strategy in this,” said John Weaver, a senior party strategist. “Good point guards don’t quit and walk off the court.”

They do when the other team is making her play ‘girls’ rules’ and the cheerleaders are playing gang rapers.

  54. have you read the all this stuff? if so, you’re a better man than i gunga din.

i think david gergen (spelling?) hit the nail on the head. she’s got a book coming out and wants to make the circuit.

in other words, she’s doing it for the money.

  55. You win a big fat gold star for one of the best titles I’ve seen! Thanks for the laugh!
