Have the Illuminati returned to destroy the Catholic Church?
This movie sequel is actually the book prequel to The Da Vinci Code. I’ve read both books and seen the first movie. I liked this book better.
I enjoy Dan Brown’s writing. Like Tim Powers (Last Call, Anubis Gates) he mixes history and fiction to make a great story.
What’s on your mind?

I’m looking forward to the movie. Conspiracy theory things are often so fun. And how can you not like the matter/anti-matter bombs.
I sort of wish I had the same sort of gift that Dan Brown has, that is, the ability to research and synthesize the wealth of information from history, dream up a plot line that while it is fiction, could also very well be a true story(an ages old conspiracy), and then create an interesting story, with enjoyable twists and turns. All in a very readable style.
But I am happy to settle for books and movies and the incredible treasury of a university library system, where, if they do not have the book, they order it for me, and send me an email when it arrives!
Every piece of art used in the book (and I assume the movie) to mark the “path of the Illuminati” actually exists as described.
Unlike Obama’s birth certificate
.
BTW – that graphic is the Illuminati ambigram.
It reads the same if you flip it over.
The book begins with that ambigram found burned into the chest of a dead scientist – the man who discovered the secret of antimatter.
pssstttt… I did not read Angels and Demons yet… I wanted to wait for the movie… since reading the book first spoiled the movie The DaVinci Code for me!!!
He hasn’t given anything away that you won’t find out within the first 15 minutes of the film if it follows the book.
Don’t forget to do something very silly on July 8th. Specifically 04:05:06 (am or pm) on 07/08/09. That’s using US date notation. If you’re European, you might prefer August 7th (which would be 07/08/09 in their silly notation).
At 12:34 5/6/78 our soccer coach stopped the game and called us all over to see it switch on his digital watch.
It looked like we were huddled for strategy rather than coach sharing a moment with us.
Thought it was cool at the time….thanks for the reminder.
Our silly notation?!
Hrumfp! What are you talking about?
Actually I believe we are the logical ones!
I have to agree. day, month, year at least has some order to it vs. our month, day, year. But what are you going to do…
Hey Dandy, you’ll probably not see my reply, but I couldn’t help laughing reading your comment “But what are you going to do …”, and then looking at your avatar – who seems to be sayng just that, lol! Try applying a Brooklyn accent, lol!
My favourite Sunday brunch cocktail (and hangover remedy) turns 40.
The “Caesar”.

Deeeeeelish!
The ambigrams were neat and the ending in the book was pretty cool. I loved the way Brown took the concept of intertwining science and faith.
At the risk of being a spoiler, I love stories (books or movies) where you think you have it figgered out and then they throw you a curveball.
okay, I am NOT reading any more or this thread until the Movie is in Theaters and I have seen it at least once!!!
I just hope Tom Hanks doesn’t sleepwalk through this one. If he had been anymore deadpan in the last one, they would have put him on life support.
A better haircut would also be a good idea.
I was a little disappointed in the last movie. This one has more potential.
That was my thought too. And I thought “is he that hard up for cash?”
DaVinci Code was a yawner for me. I hope this one is better.
No but he and Ron Howard are really tight buds – so friendship entered into the deal
The only movie I ever liked Tom Hanks in, is Big.
But then I love him in that!
Just love the movie and everybody in it. It’s a classic!
Thought he was pretty special in Philadelphia
I loved Castaway. But then I love islands.
I read the DaVinci code on a throw away Saturday. I didn’t see the movie. Thought watching grass grow sounded more interesting. However, on one thought, it had to be more interesting that a football or baseball game, definitely better than basketball.
Has any one seen that confounded bridge?
Yeah, an economist thinks murder mysteries are boring.
well, that depends on if it is fiction or not, I mean there’s a lot of really fascinating things out there in reality … where’s the need to invent a few more? Much rather read In Cold Blood.
Maybe you would like to do a review of Captain Spaulding’s autobiography?
and actually i think it’s more the Buddhist in me than the economist
Zen CPA?
Tantric Economists do it on Slutksky tables with all their chakras wide open
I’m not Zen, and I’m not an accountant … sheesh!
Naw, I ain’t falling for it – you pulled that before with all that dirty talk about “naked shorts” and stuff.
that’s what I just said, I’m a tantric Buddhist! none of this zen detachment for me!!!!
I’m a vajrayana, dzogchen vow holder!
I can’t stand Tom Hanks, so I won’t be seeing it. I read The Da Vinci Code. It was mostly stolen from another conspiracy theory book I had already read, Holy Blood, Holy Grail. Brown can build suspense but his characters are wooden as all get out.
Right now I’m the Goddess of rounding up mercifully.
Ask my students who won’t quit emailing me while I toil …
That’s what they said about Gepetto too
I heard that too, but as you know it’s a sin to see the films so I will just have to believe you lot here.
Yes, I couldn’t get through that book either-wooden and implausible.
New police state update up if anyone is interested. I don’t blame you if you don’t want to know.
A disturbing trend I’ve noticed:
Con bloggers playing clips of Jon Stewart
If both sides are playing TDS clips, isn’t that proof they’re divisive?
Dan Brown books are lots of fun. The poor history does not annoy me because the books are fiction.
But I was ticked off at the History Channel’s presentation on “Angels and Demons” because the History Channel is supposed to present NON-fiction.
The Illuminati had nothing to do with Gallileo or with Bernini. The Vatican had nothing to do with the suppression of the Illuminati. (I doubt that anyone at the Vatican even knew about the group until Cagliostro told his fibs.) Although Adam Weishaupt, founder of the group, was strongly anti-Jesuit, his primary concern was overturning monarchy.
And Leonardo had nothing to do with the Rosicrucians — a fictional secret society created a hundred years after Leonardo’s death.
So much for substance. Let’s talk about style…
I have discovered Dan Brown’s secret for writing compulsive page-turners. If you apply this secret then you too can make millions of dollars.
With this secret, you’ll have readers salivating to turn the page. Every time they come to the end of the chapter, they will go on to the next. They simply will not be able to put the book down.
You can live a life of unparalleled luxury once you put this secret into practice.
What is the secret?
It’s easy. It’s simple. It’s one of the oldest tricks in literature.
The secret is…
….cliffhangers?
Just ignore Joseph, he’s one of those Illuminati wannabees.

I notice the visibly aging Hanks is again awarded a luscious young woman as his sidekick.
